The crazy thing is: Yahtzee played with a giant rubber bawl and bowling pins, instead of the traditional cup and dice, is actually a better idea for a video game -- especially one compatible with Kinect and PlayStation Move.

The crazier thing is: The Family Game Night 4 video game includes fewer than half of the minigames featured in the Family Game Night television game show on which it's based. You can't even begin to imagine how "Operation Relay" is going to work in your living room -- you just have to wait for the EA Hasbro division's next sequel.

Family Game Night 4: The Game Show will be released this fall for Wii, Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3, and features support for motion control on all three platforms. It includes five minigames adapted from The Hub channel's Family Game Night game show, including "Bop-It Boptagon," "Connect 4 Basketball," "Scrabble Flash," "Sorry! Sliders" and "Yahtzee Bowling."
Most people who don't happen to have their Nintendo 3DS AR cards handy just, you know, load them up on a smartphone. But a fellow who goes by the handle Cranberryzero decided to go for a more permanent solution -- he got a tattoo of the Mii AR card on his arm.

As you can see above and after the break, the tattoo actually works. Whenever the 3DS camera is looking at his arm, the Mii of his choosing appears to be standing just below his wrist. Cranberryzero says the tattoo works best in dim light; in bright light, the device seems to have trouble sussing out the card's border from his skin color.

It's pretty cool -- and clever -- but he'd better start preparing an explanation to give his future grandkids now.
Continue reading Arttoo: 3DS fan gets AR card tattoo

Arttoo: 3DS fan gets AR card tattoo originally appeared on Joystiq on Tue, 03 May 2011 01:00:00 EST. Follow us on this one: The way augmented reality cards work is that a camera (like the cameras on Nintendo's 3DS) sees a certain marker image at a certain size on screen, and then displays video from the camera along with a virtual object that matches that size. The closer the camera is to the card, the bigger it is on screen, and thus the bigger the object is displayed, as if it really exists in the on-screen world.

So what if you took one of the slightly-smaller-than-a-credit-card-sized images, blew it up, pixel for pixel, into a 22 foot long swimming-pool-sized poster, and then looked at it with the Nintendo 3DS? Answer: You'd get a three-story tall augmented reality Mii. See it in action after the break.
Continue reading Giant AR card used to create a Mega Mii

Giant AR card used to create a Mega Mii originally appeared on Joystiq on Tue, 22 Mar 2011 04:00:00 EST. Connectivity used to be a big buzz word for Nintendo during the GBA/DS era. Yet, the 3DS is oddly lacking interoperability with a Nintendo home console. At launch, only one feature will be available that caters to owners of both a Wii and 3DS: transferring your Mii from the console to your handheld.

But what if you want to send a Mii back to the Wii? "It's a one way transfer," NOA Product Marketing Manager Bill Trinen told Joystiq. "You can send your Miis from your Wii to your 3DS. But, because the Mii Maker on the Nintendo 3DS is a more robust program and has newer features, like hairstyles and eyes and things like that, the Miis you create there can't go back to the Wii." Too bad, because Mii Maker's ability to automatically create new avatars by taking pictures would expedite an otherwise lengthy process.

Can we expect any other connectivity between the two Nintendo devices? Perhaps, but Trinen didn't even offer a tease. "Beyond that, that's the only Wii connectivity we've talked about."
3DS can import your Wii Mii, too 'robust' to export them back originally appeared on Joystiq on Wed, 19 Jan 2011 18:30:00 EST. During an investors presentation, Nintendo president Satoru Iwata introduced plans to add an online shopping component to the service. On November 1, three department store companies and Nintendo will launch the new Wii no Ma Shopping portal, which will carry goods from those department stores in addition to exclusive items like stickers and stamps with Mii images on them. "In addition to exclusive commodities only available at Wii-no-Ma," Iwata said, "there will always be more than 10,000 items to choose from, including foods, daily commodities, fashion items and furniture."

Iwata has high hopes for the shopping service: "Wii is a game console which can be enjoyed by any member of a family regardless of age, gender and gaming experiences, and by deploying services that are unique to Wii with such characteristics, we are trying to make it even more useful for facilitating communication between people," he said. "If we can maintain the high active-use ratio of Wii through that process, people will keep using Wii as a game console. Overall, we are also hopeful that we will be able to increase the social acceptance of video games, which is one of our long-term goals."

Don't expect to buy stuff through your Wii: the Wii no Ma Channel remains unavailable outside of Japan.
Online shopping comes to Wii in Japan November 1 originally appeared on Joystiq on Fri, 29 Oct 2010 14:50:00 EST. Nintendo didn't just drop a Japanese release date and price for the 3DS tonight -- in a document (PDF) released following this evening's press conference, the company detailed more of the hardware's features, including unexpected pack-ins.

¥25,000 ($299) will net you -- among other things -- a charging cradle, 2GB SD card, telescoping metal stylus and six "paper cards" that can be used for playing the system's built-in augmented reality games. (The 3DS' outward-facing 3D camera will detect and replace them in the "scene" with different 3D objects.)

3DS will also perform some neat new tricks. It has backlit face buttons -- one of which is the Home button. When pressed, it will bring up an in-game menu enabling users to browse the web, turn Wi-Fi on/off and modify other settings without exiting.

Finally, there's a breakdown of the built-in software, which includes "Nintendo 3DS cameras," "Nintendo 3DS sound," Mii Studio," "Chance Encounter Mii Plaza," "AR Games" and "Book" (an ebook reader, perhaps?). Mii Studio is unique in that it allows players to snap photos of themselves to use as a basis for their Mii. More details as they hit.

Gallery: Nintendo 3DS final hardware

Nintendo reveals more 3DS hardware details, OS features originally appeared on Joystiq on Wed, 29 Sep 2010 03:02:00 EST. "We look at [online] more in terms of what can we do to provide that Nintendo flavor or magic to that community or connection experience," he told IGN Australia in an E3 interview the site just now found behind its virtual sofa cushions.

"One of the ways that we're looking at doing that, is the idea of really strengthening the tag mode functionality," he explained, referring to an "always on" data-sharing feature most famously employed by Dragon Quest IX on DS. "We think that there will be some unique ideas that come out of that, and that it will have a very unique Nintendo flavor to it." So, not voice chat or friend code-free multiplayer then?

Speaking of exchanging things with other 3DS owners: what of Miis? Already transferable from Wii to current DS titles such as Tomodachi Collection and Personal Trainer: Walking, Miyamoto commented that the pint-sized avatars moving to-and-fro between future platforms is "something that we're definitely giving consideration to," and that there's a desire to "continue to try to allow people to use their Miis on different Nintendo systems going forward." We can certainly get down with the idea of 3D Miis -- or, as we call them, "3Miis."

Andriasang.com has pointed out a new Japanese WiiWare title that turns your television into a glorified aquarium. Fortunately, it's more than just a screensaver (it had better be for 800 Wii Points) and includes a number of different features. Entitled Aqua Living: The Fish You Can Watch On your TV (no, really), the game allows players to create an aquarium using different themes, layouts and fish. Once the aquarium is set up, players can change the viewing angle or have the camera follow a certain fish. Players can also dive into the aquarium as their Miis, allowing them to directly feed the fish and explore the tank.

The game also includes a fish guide, which includes information on each species. Of course, all we want to know is if there are any fish with human faces in there. Follow this link to see the game in motion.
WiiWare game can turn your TV into an aquarium originally appeared on Joystiq on Fri, 26 Feb 2010 20:15:00 EST. Not only has Sega tapped almost all of its memorable characters (including Shenmue's Ryo), but its roster is also starting to encompass games outside of the Sega realm, including Banjo-Kazooie, Avatars and Miis. And then remember when that didn't happen and the inclusion of Miis into every third-party game was a Big Deal? This news about Tony Hawk Ride makes us nostalgic for both of those times.

Developer Buzz Monkey and Activision have received the mysteriously elusive permission from Nintendo to include Mii support, allowing users not only to play as their own Miis, but as included Mii likenesses of the pro skaters featured in the game. So if the in-game Tony Hawk avatar doesn't have a big enough head for you, there's a built-in solution.

In addition to the extra Mii features, Tony Hawk Ride on the Wii will include two exclusive levels. Usually, motion controls are enough of an exclusive feature for a game's Wii version, but this time, of course, that isn't the case, and it looks like Activision has found interesting ways to compensate. Enjoy some footage from the Wii game after the break.

While both Guitar Hero World Tour and 5 included Mii modes, Xbox Avatar support was new for the latest GH game. We've contacted Activision to determine whether Avatars will find their way into Ride as well.
Continue reading Play as your Mii, or a professional skater, or a professional skater's Mii in Tony Hawk Ride

Play as your Mii, or a professional skater, or a professional skater's Mii in Tony Hawk Ride originally appeared on Joystiq on Tue, 06 Oct 2009 11:45:00 EST. You'll also be able to make your big-eyed simulacra windmill their (nonexistent) arms like lil' Pete Townshends (even as lil' Pete Townshends, now that we think about it). An Activision rep confirmed to Eurogamer that Mii support would be present in GH5.

Of course, the exact same "Mii Freestyle" mode was already present in the Wii version of Guitar Hero World Tour, so its inclusion in Guitar Hero 5 is less groundbreaking than the Avatar support -- if only because that particular ground has already been broken in the Wii games. Unfortunately for Quincys about to rock, there are "no plans to have Home Avatars for the PS3 version."
Guitar Hero 5 also supports Miis originally appeared on Joystiq on Mon, 03 Aug 2009 13:30:00 EST. Two years ago when I brought home my Wii and was sculpting a likeness of myself in Mii form, I was doing just that sort of reflecting.

Recently, Sony opened up their new Playstation Home service to public beta and Microsoft unrolled the New Xbox Experience. With these additions, it has become possible to create an effigy of ourselves across each platform, so I'd like to give you my impressions of my own three representations. I can tell you right now, a couple of these ain't pretty.

Continue reading Revolutionary: It Ain't Mii

Revolutionary: It Ain't Mii originally appeared on Joystiq on Wed, 31 Dec 2008 18:00:00 EST. While Nintendo of America has settled on Personal Trainer: (Activity) for DS training games, and Japan takes a more freeform approach (the only constant is really, really long names), Nintendo of Europe's approach for training game titles (with the odd exception of Maths Training) is now (Title): (Question about title activity?) -- as in Cooking Guide: Can't decide what to eat? and Dr Kawashima's Brain Training: How old is your brain?

The latest training game to use this naming convention is Walk with me! Do you know your walking routine?, which we know as Personal Trainer: Walking, the walking trainer that brings Miis to the DS for the first time, and also includes two wireless pedometer accessories. That accessory is known as the Activity Meter for the PAL release. Data collected by the device can be sent to Nintendo via Wi-Fi for use on leaderboards and a total worldwide step count of all users. The press release says that the data is transferred to your DS via infrared signal, but we're a bit skeptical since the DS doesn't have an IR port.

Nintendo of Europe will launch Walk with me! on February 20. You can see English screens in an obtrusive Flash interface at Nintendo's Walk with me page.

Gallery: Aruite Wakaru Seikatsu Rhythm DS

[Thanks, RICANJO!]
Pedometer-equipped walking game steps into Europe with a terrible new name originally appeared on Joystiq on Fri, 12 Dec 2008 12:00:00 EST. Somehow, I found myself engrossed in the process of creating big-headed caricatures of me, my family, celebrities, and such. My interest was renewed for a while with the addition of the Check Mii Out Channel.

But I got over my Mii mania, mostly. I have a stable of go-to Miis for use in games that support them, and that's it. I rarely look at the parade or the Check Mii Out Channel anymore. I'm glad I have the Miis I have, but I don't really feel like putting time into Mii creation for fun anymore. This isn't necessarily a bad thing, as the point is to make avatars, and I've done that and now I have avatars.

What about you? Have you continued honing your Mii-making craft? Have you become an artisan working in the medium of fake cartoon heads?
Wii Warm Up: Mii or Meh originally appeared on Joystiq on Mon, 10 Nov 2008 08:00:00 EST. Titled Big League Sports, Activision's new game is taking inspiration from the many other minigame compilations available on the console. Due for release in North America this holiday season, the new game emphasizes "a singular focus on putting players in the most thrilling situations while competing in their favorite sports." The "favorite sports" it speaks of? Tennis, basketball, football (American style), soccer, lacrosse and hockey, with each sport featuring its own "hit the shot and the buzzer" moment, although we're not sure exactly what that means (some kind of tension mechanic?).

The final version of the game will feature 22 events across six different sports and various game modes, including single game, marathon, and tournament. There's also going to be a character creation mode which, you guessed it, means there is a strong chance the game will have Mii support. Look for Big League Sports this holiday season.
Activision announces new sports game for Wii originally appeared on Joystiq on Tue, 14 Oct 2008 15:31:00 EST. We spent our limited Animal Crossing: City Folk time at E3 messing with the new Mii masks, reducing an effigy of a normally jovial executive to a blubbering mess. Should you want to follow our example, it's quite easy to do! And just a little bit off-putting, as this video of the new salon shows.

You just go to the salon, choose the Mii you'd like the mask to resemble, and then ... a giant machine, buzzing and arcing with electricity, clamps down over you and reshapes your head! If you think about it like that, it's a bit weird that the Mii mask blinks and displays emotions. But, then again, you have to earn each emotional display by watching stand-up comedy, so maybe we're already in Weird City.
Oh Rare. Do you honestly expect us to believe this? Nonetheless, it's their story and they're sticking to it.

The fine folks behind that Banjo & Kazooie business have commented that Avatars are not an attempt to copy the lovable Miis from Nintendo. Head of art, Lee Musgrave, says "It was an idea we had, even before Miis were part of the gaming scene, of putting these characters that you have an affinity with, not necessarily as part of the Xbox dash, but somewhere in the Xbox that you would play multiple games with, that you would have multiple experiences with that same character."

Musgrave further added that "Microsoft did not turn up one day in a speeding car and say, 'They've got Miis - do something!' It wasn't like that at all; it was something that fell into place over a period of time." But was that period of time really the year the Xbox 360 was on the market before Wii's arrival? We're not sure we're willing to swallow the red pill on that one.

Rare says Avatars were in production before Wii even launched originally appeared on Joystiq on Thu, 11 Sep 2008 12:50:00 EST. Okay, first of all, there are new screens for the upcoming WiiWare title. Hit them up in our gallery below, then come back here, because we're got some things we need to discuss.

Back? Good. Okay, to clarify: Bomberman Blast, the WiiWare title for download and not the retail disc, will feature Mii support and 8-person online multiplayer (up to four players can go online on the same Wii) and is officially on its way to North America. We know we told you something else before regarding the Mii stuff, but the press release that literally just landed into our inbox tells another story. So expect this to be one content-rich download.

And on top of those details, Hudson also let us know that they'll be offering online tournaments. In fact, one will even coincide with the release of the game (which is due out in Japan this fall)!

[Via press release]
Hudson just can't make up its mind about Bomberman Blast originally appeared on Joystiq on Tue, 26 Aug 2008 10:50:00 EST.
Hoping to somehow diminish our aversion to the sight of Miis playing musical instruments, Vicarious Visions is working the user-created, er ... "avatars" into the Wii version of Guitar Hero World Tour in a so-called unique way. In an interview with IGN, the developer explained how the recently revealed Mii mode, known as "Mii Freestyle," will work.

Using the guitar or drumkit peripherals (or, if you're <strike>crazy</strike> so inclined, the Wiimote and Nunchuck for "air drumming") the mode lets you and a friend jam in a variety of music genres, laying down single notes, chords, and beats as you wish. According to Vicarious Visions, it'll all sound good because, well, it's programmed to clean up what you do. Take that, years of practice!

Vicarious Visions has confirmed that Guitar Hero: World Tour on the Wii will have not only all of the content found in the other versions, including DLC, but it will also have an exclusive "Mii Freestyle" mode, which we first heard about yesterday. But it goes beyond just having Miis in the normal Guitar Hero game.

Mii Freestyle mode is actually an exclusive game mode in which players can create music on the fly using Guitar Hero guitars and drums -- or the Wiimote and Nunchuk as air drums, Wii Music-style, if they want to for some reason. The instruments lay down predetermined notes or sequences onto the familiar Guitar Hero note chart according to the style of music chosen. It's sort of a jamming version of the Music Studio found in the game. Vicarious Visions' David Nathanielsz calls the mode "a helpful bridge between the core game and the Music Studio in Guitar Hero: World Tour for Wii owners."

The Wii World Tour, then, has all of the features of the other versions, plus a new exclusive mode. The only thing the other systems have on it now is graphics, which matter very little in a music game. Barring accidental monaural sound output or something, the Wii version will now be the superior version. Take that, Rock Band!

The Wii version of upcoming Guitar Hero: World Tour just got a bit more unique. The title will apparently include Mii support, allowing those of you who don't want to go through the pain of modeling yourself in the custom character creator to still get your likeness into the game. No other details about the Mii implementation are available right now, sadly, but we're sure they'll shed some light on it soon enough.

For those of you that don't get the joke in the image above, be sure to head past the break for a brief explanation.

Continue reading GC 2008: Miis to rock out in Guitar Hero: World Tour

GC 2008: Miis to rock out in Guitar Hero: World Tour originally appeared on Joystiq on Wed, 20 Aug 2008 10:55:00 EST.

What's that you say? Microsoft's new Avatars system for the Xbox 360 is just a rip-off of Nintendo's Miis? Poppycock and slander! Microsoft man John Schappert has explained to MCV that Avatars are merely a natural development of Microsoft's online strategy. Like, obviously.

"It'd be remiss to say that we don't enjoy playing on the other systems and we have a lot of respect for the work that Miyamoto-san and Nintendo do," remarked Schappert, warming up for a "but," "but I think it's a logical extension of our Gamercard, Gamertag and Achievements." Commence reverse peristalsis!

Schappert's denial is kind of predictable, as nobody will ever be able to absolutely prove just how much Miis influenced Avatars. With Schappert's beloved Miyamoto admitting to being "quite flattered" by Avatars, we have a hunch about what Nintendo might think.

Shigeru Miyamoto played the role of diplomat to perfection when IGN asked for his views on Microsoft's (plainly Mii-influenced) Avatars. The Nintendo guru claims he found the nabbing of his personalized, blobby creations to be "quite flattering," and then went on to suggest that "the basic ideas behind those two different systems are different, and because of that I think they will probably develop in different ways."

Way to stay on the fence, Shiggy. We like to think he was privately fuming inside.
E308: Miyamoto 'flattered' by Microsoft Avatars originally appeared on Joystiq on Wed, 16 Jul 2008 22:15:00 EST. If the current you isn't really working out, why not try a Mii? If the Mii just doesn't cut it, you'll want another you. A new you. A ... NuYu?

As an alternative to the Mii system everyone knows and loves, Data Design Interactive has decided to come up with their own unique character creator. Officially titled NuYu Editor, it lets you build little buddies to play with -- exclusively in Data Design's range of Popcorn Arcade games. The first game to include the editor will be Crazy Mini Golf, which looks to be a pretty solid casual fun-fest.

NuYu has the usual stuff for building a boppy lil' gamer -- hair, eyes, glasses, makeup -- and the screens in our gallery appear to be pretty comprehensive with more options than the standard Mii creator. Is that a good thing? We can't pretend the NuYus in the gallery look all that great, whereas some Miis look outrageously cool. In any case, the NuYus have no impact on gameplay, and if a Popcorn Arcade game comes your way there might be a few worthy little critters just waiting to be created by your artistic genius.

[Via press release]
A new you with NuYu, but don't forget about Mii originally appeared on Joystiq on Thu, 10 Jul 2008 16:15:00 EST. Back in November, Famitsu posted a scan of Jawa: The Mammoth and the Mysterious Stone, which left detail junkies like us wanting more. Aside from the game sounding a bit like Tail of the Sun, the screens seemed unimpressive and bare.

As it turns out, though, Jawa includes an attractive feature -- assuming, of course, that your Mii is attractive, since you'll be able to dress him or her in caveman gear. You can also use your Mii to explore and wander about the game's 3D world.

While the complete disinterest that Sting seems to have for Jawa doesn't bode well for the game (which releases in Japan on July 3rd), it sounds like it could be a fun Harvest Moon-like title. Instead of growing crops, though, you hunt prehistoric animals, chill out with dinosaurs, build pots, and other such activities. Can such a cute idea really go so wrong? Probably, but we hope this one surprises us.

[Via Siliconera]
Jawa turns your Mii into a caveman originally appeared on Joystiq on Wed, 18 Jun 2008 20:00:00 EST. Looks like we're finally getting some real evidence that Microsoft really does have some sort of response to Nintendo's Miis on the way. It's been rumored for some time now and the above shot of the linked flash page seems to portend the end of the rumors. Giving the rumor more credibility is that the information contained in the image, supposedly taken from an online survey, conforms to details recently given to Joystiq by a trusted source. These "Xbox Avatars" certainly look to do everything that Miis do and more.

Taking into account that Microsoft doesn't seem too troubled by the rest of the year, this, along with the rumored "Newton" controller, could possibly be what they're betting the farm on.

Hmm ... E3 should sure be interesting this year ...

[Thanks Mighty Healthy]
Rumor: "Avatars" are Microsoft's take on Mii's? originally appeared on Joystiq on Sun, 15 Jun 2008 14:00:00 EST. Not only does Barack Obama appear on an occasional DS system and fight John McCain in Pokémon-like battles, but apparently his Mii is quite the popular avatar. On the Check Mii Out channel, it's one of the top fifty most popular, proudly standing next to Batman. The Mii's skill, aptly enough, is listed as "Speeches."

Unfortunately, thanks to the oft unkind initialing system on the Check Mii Out channel, Obama is designated as "B.O." So, fess up -- how many of you have B.O. on your Wiis?

[Via Game Politics]
Barack rocks the Check Mii Out channel originally appeared on Joystiq on Mon, 26 May 2008 22:30:00 EST. Seldom have I been so interested in a game; usually, one has something of an idea what to expect. But trying Wii Fit is an experience that videos just can't quite get across. How does it feel? What's it like to really stand there on the board? After lingering over the unboxing -- which you can check out in the gallery below -- it was time to readjust the living room and get in the game. The baby daddy decided to play along, and serve as guinea pig and unboxing assistant. After a little time with the title, a few things became abundantly clear ....

Gallery: Unwrapping Wii Fit

Continue reading Five quick Wii Fit factoids

Five quick Wii Fit factoids originally appeared on Joystiq on Thu, 22 May 2008 09:30:00 EST. And the church is starting to get that popularity, apparently, as a Jesus Mii is being used to advertise Easter Sunday services for the Mission Bay Community Church.

The church itself is located in the San Francisco area and, to our knowledge, the first of its kind to actually be hip to what the kids think is, well ... hip. What is new, however, is using the holy caricature in an advertisement for Easter services.

In a (successful [and adorable]) attempt to capitalize on the continued popularity of the Nintendo Wii, the Mission Bay Community Church in San Francisco has adorned their ads for holy week with the pint-sized Jesus Mii.

Christened with the tagline "Come and Follow Mii," and including a very confused bunny, the ad is surprisingly well put-together, and definitely gives the impression that the church knows their audience. We weren't sure before if all this talk of Miis and other goodies in Bomberman referred to the game on WiiWare or a separate game. As it turns out, we weren't the only ones confused, and Hudson stepped in to clarify the issue. Apparently, there are two separates games coming to the Wii; the WiiWare version will be more like classic Bomberman, while the new title (due out this June in Japan) will be the one with Mii support and special items. It looks like a lot of fun, but price point will be key in determining its appeal -- with so much Bomberman on the market, gamers might find it hard to commit to this iteration.

Will you be Bomberman-ed out by the time this game releases despite the nifty features, or is this a purchase you could see yourself making?

But, we were wondering just how important is Mii integration? It doesn't really add much to games, as it's pretty much just the ability to slap a cartoonish mug where it otherwise doesn't belong.
Though it's still unclear whether all this Bomberman media is for Hudson's announced WiiWare title or for a disc-based retail release, we're not going to enjoy these screenshots any less because of those doubts. Already, we've spotted new, game-changing items -- rocket packs and shields. Presumably, the rocket pack allows you to hover over the arena until you find a safe landing spot. If you were smart, however, you'd use the rocket pack to fly the hell away from the battlefield and its crazed bombermen, escaping towards a distant, bombless country.

Bomberman will consist of a story mode, battle mode, and "My First Bomberman" mode, the latter of which teaches the game's basics and new weapons with a series of lessons. The 39-stage story mode charges you with the quest of saving your system's Miis, while the battle mode is the multiplayer arena you're all familiar with, except with eight-player support, Nintendo WiFi Connection matches, and online leaderboards. Sounds like a solid game! The only detail we're wary of is its Wii Remote features -- you can use items by shaking the controller.

[Via NeoGAF]

Read - Official Bomberman site (Japanese)
Read - Wii Bomberman Detailed
Bomberman packed with shields, rocket packs, and Mii support originally appeared on Joystiq on Fri, 14 Mar 2008 13:30:00 EST.
Nintendo has announced that its frantic shell-flinging racer, Mario Kart Wii, will see its long-awaited US release on April 27th. The game will include the "intuitive" Wii Wheel, otherwise described as a large hunk of plastic capable of housing your Wii remote. We envision it being less useful for the actual game and better suited to the imaginary car we'll be driving everywhere, complete with lip-powered puttering and unexpected honking to annoy the coworkers at the office.

Once you stick Mario Kart Wii into your console, you'll be able to compete with up to 11 other drivers online across 32 courses (half of them recycled from previous games). You can also expect to encounter Mii integration, 10 battle arenas, alternate controller support and a festering hatred for blue shells.
