Mojang mastermind Notch has <a href="https://twitter.com/#!/notch/statuses/158311410600906753">tweeted</a> that <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/minecraft"><em>Minecraft</em></a> has reached the 20 million user milestone, and that if each user weighed 154 pounds, that <em>Minecraft</em>'s total player base would equal 25 percent of the weight of the Great Pyramid of Giza. It's an interesting statistic, if somewhat of a stretch, only because it got us thinking about other ways to arbitrarily compartmentalize that sort of information. <br />
<br />
For example: Assuming that every <em>Minecraft</em> player contains the human average of 1.3 gallons of blood, <em>Minecraft</em>'s player base equates to 39.9 regulation olympic-sized swimming pools full of vital fluids. Math is neat, isn't it? <p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/01/14/minecraft-hits-20-million-registered-users/">Minecraft hits 20 million registered users</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Sat, 14 Jan 2012 21:00:00 EST. <br />
Milestone is developing a followup in Japan, which contains everything the first disc offered, plus two more games. <em>Milestone Shooting Collection 2</em> includes all three of the aforementioned games, plus <em>Radio Allergy Noir</em> (a <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/08/07/the-xbox-360s-latest-shmup-radio-allergy-noir-massive/">version</a> of which was released as a standalone, full-price Xbox 360 game) and <em>Illvelo</em>, which was once planned for North American release but <a href="http://www.gamesetwatch.com/2010/06/ilvelos_north_american_release.php">canceled</a>. Perhaps North American publisher UFO Interactive will give <em>Illvelo</em> a second chance by bringing this collection over. If you want the import, it's out in Japan on December 30.<br />
<br />
You can see more of each game at the <a href="http://mile-stone.co.jp/product/msc2/msc2_games.html">official site</a>.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/12/06/milestone-shooting-collection-2-bundles-five-shmups-on-wii/">Milestone Shooting Collection 2 bundles five shmups on Wii</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Mon, 06 Dec 2010 15:10:00 EST. An <a href="http://www.amazon.co.jp/exec/obidos/ASIN/B003Y5I4D8/esute01-22/ref=nosim/">Amazon Japan listing</a> found by <a href="http://www.siliconera.com/2010/08/06/radio-allergy-noir-massive-shooting-for-xbox-360-release/">Siliconera</a> suggests that Milestone is going to join the shmup party, with a port of <em>Radilgy: Noir</em>, released on the Wii in Japan this year. The Xbox version, according to the listing and the associated image, will be called <em>Radilgy Noir: Massive</em>.<br />
<br />
<em>Noir</em> is itself based on the cel-shaded shmup <em>Radilgy</em>, which actually made it onto the Wii in North America (called <em>Radio Allergy</em>) as part of UFO Interactive's <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/01/23/wii-fanboy-review-ultimate-shooting-collection/">Ultimate Shooting Collection</a></em>, after a long-delayed GameCube version was finally <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/06/02/radio-allergy-cancelled/">cancelled</a>. Which means that UFO (who <a href="http://www.gamesetwatch.com/2010/06/ilvelos_north_american_release.php">cancelled</a> another localized Milestone shooter this year!) might have to think <em>really hard </em>before it decides to pick this one up.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/08/07/the-xbox-360s-latest-shmup-radio-allergy-noir-massive/">The Xbox 360's latest shmup: Radio Allergy Noir Massive</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Sat, 07 Aug 2010 02:00:00 EST. The Wii <em>already</em> has what could be dubbed the "Ultimate Shooting Collection" -- though not on a single disc. The Virtual Console is loaded with a surfeit of shooters, including many of the best games in the genre's history. The <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/09/30/good-news-and-bad-news-about-ultimate-shooting-collection/"><em>Ultimate Shooting Collection</em></a>, in comparison, is composed of just three games, some or all of which you may never even heard of. But just like there usually <em>is</em> an argument for a new game over an old one you've played, there is content of interest here that doesn't exist in the downloadable space. <br /><br />The games in <em>Ultimate Shooting Collection</em> are a great showcase for the evolution of the shooter genre, which may seem stagnant or even <em>dead</em>, in the modern age. Even with the piles upon piles of existing shooters, there aren't any like these on the Virtual Console.<br /><br /><p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/01/23/wii-fanboy-review-ultimate-shooting-collection/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Wii Fanboy Review: Ultimate Shooting Collection</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/01/23/wii-fanboy-review-ultimate-shooting-collection/">Wii Fanboy Review: Ultimate Shooting Collection</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Fri, 23 Jan 2009 09:58:00 EST. [Update: UFO tells us that they are working toward a January 19 release.]<br /><br />The <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/11/18/ultimate-shooting-collection-targets-december-release/">last time</a> we mentioned UFO Interactive's US release of the <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/07/21/a-milestone-for-wii-shooter-fans/">Ultimate Shooting Collection</a>,</em> it was to report a delay. We, uh, have some bad news. Maybe. According to Amazon and Gamestop, the compilation of Milestone shooters (<em>Radio Allergy, Chaos Field</em>, and <em>Karous</em>) will miss its December 15 release date by at least a month. <a href="http://www.gamestop.com/Catalog/ProductDetails.aspx?product_id=72735">Gamestop</a>'s new date is January 20, as is <a href="http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage.jsp?skuId=9118983&amp;st=ultimate+shooting&amp;lp=1&amp;type=product&amp;cp=1&amp;id=1218026347132">Best Buy</a>'s. <a href="http://www.amazon.com/Ultimate-Shooting-Collection-Nintendo-Wii/dp/B001BJ690E/ref=pd_bbs_sr_1?ie=UTF8&amp;s=videogames&amp;qid=1228806961&amp;sr=8-1">Amazon</a> places the release at January 31. We've sent an inquiry in to UFO to verify the delay and, hopefully, specify the latest for-real release date.<br /><br />We're now convinced that <em>Radilgy</em> is cursed. In December of 2006, O3 Entertainment <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2006/12/26/radilgy-now-radio-allergy-gcn-shooter-westbound/">announced</a> plans to release the colorful shmup in February of the next year. It was then <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/02/20/radio-allergy-delayed-to-march/">delayed</a> until March, then delayed a few more times before being <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/06/02/radio-allergy-cancelled/">cancelled</a> in June.<br /><br />
<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/12/09/ultimate-shooting-collection-delayed-once-again/">Ultimate Shooting Collection delayed once again? Previously, the game was <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/09/30/good-news-and-bad-news-about-ultimate-shooting-collection/">scheduled</a> to come out on November 11th, but as it isn't in our homes <em>right now</em>, we had to assume it had slipped. When contacted, publisher UFO Interactive confirmed our worst fears: the new release date is December 15th, right in the middle of the Christmas rush. <em>P</em><span style="font-style: italic;">ew pew</span> your way past the break for a trailer.<br /><br />
<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/11/18/ultimate-shooting-collection-targets-december-release/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Ultimate Shooting Collection targets December release</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/11/18/ultimate-shooting-collection-targets-december-release/">Ultimate Shooting Collection targets December release</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 18 Nov 2008 15:37:00 EST. The latest screens of Milestone's <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/07/21/a-milestone-for-wii-shooter-fans/"><em>Ultimate Shooting Collection</em></a> provide us with at least two interesting pieces of information: first, that UFO Interactive is using the "Radio Allergy" localization from O3's <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/06/02/radio-allergy-cancelled/">failed Gamecube release</a> of <em>Radilgy</em>. The situation with <em>Radio Allergy</em> makes us think that Milestone themselves, rather than O3, did the English translation and logo, otherwise UFO would have had to deal with O3 to publish their material.<br /><br />Second, the screens tell us that <em>hey, UFO is still promoting Ultimate Shooting Collection</em>! It may actually come out! Though, it's been, uh, delayed again, to November 11. GameStop is showing some <a href="http://www.gamestop.com/Catalog/ProductDetails.aspx?product_id=72735">new boxart</a> as well, that's less ... identical to the Japanese look.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/09/30/good-news-and-bad-news-about-ultimate-shooting-collection/">Good news and bad news about Ultimate Shooting Collection</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 30 Sep 2008 11:45:00 EST. Milestone has seemingly foregone the customary "<em>last Dreamcast game EVER!!!" </em>release of their NAOMI-based shmup in favor of a system that is still being produced. The November 13 release date found in the Play-Asia listing was accurate.<br /><br />At this point we'd normally start speculating about a US release for the vertical shmup, but to be honest we're still suspicious as to the prospects of the <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/07/21/a-milestone-for-wii-shooter-fans/">Ultimate Shooting Collection</a>.</em> Sure, it <em>looks</em> like it's going to come out, but so did <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/06/02/radio-allergy-cancelled/">Radio Allergy</a> </em>on the GameCube. Let's get that out, and then we can start crossing our fingers for <em>Illvelope.</em><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/09/10/illvelo-wii-is-real-velo/">Illvelo Wii is real(velo)</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 10 Sep 2008 19:16:00 EST. <br /><em>Ultimate Shooting Collection</em> will release in the U.S. <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/07/21/a-milestone-for-wii-shooter-fans/">later this month</a>, but it might not be the last shmup port we see from <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/milestone">Milestone</a>. Sega's <em>Illvelo</em> / <em>Illmatic Envelope</em> is based on the NAOMI arcade system board (the Dreamcast was rife with NAOMI ports), and appeared earlier this year in Japanese arcades. Now, according to a Play-Asia listing, the Wii will be getting its own port on November 13th in Japan.<br /><br />As you can see above, it looks pretty <em>wacky</em>, with cel-shaded levels populated by everything from giant cutlery to confectionery, a tongue-in-cheek approach that reminds us of <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/star-parodier/"><em>Star Parodier</em></a>. Presuming it does exist, will <em>Illvelo Wii</em> get localized? UFO Interactive helpfully picked up<em> Ultimate Shooting Collection</em> for the States, but that contained a wallet-pleasing <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/12/26/karous-and-more-coming-in-march/">three shmups</a> -- as <em>Illvelo</em> will only feature one, a North American release looks less likely.<br /><br />[Via <a href="http://www.siliconera.com/2008/09/02/milestone-is-porting-another-shmup-to-the-wii/">Siliconera</a>]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/09/03/rumor-another-milestone-shmup-port-on-the-way/">Rumor: Another Milestone shmup port on the way</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 03 Sep 2008 11:46:00 EST. Then Milestone decided to <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/12/26/karous-and-more-coming-in-march/">throw a couple of bonus games</a> on there, and <em>then</em> it became the "<a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/02/27/milestone-emphasizes-bonus-games-on-karous-wii-release/">Shooting Collection</a>." The bundle is probably the only way it could ever get picked up by an American publisher. And $30 isn't bad at all for three games, even in the age of downloadable games!<br /><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/07/21/a-milestone-for-wii-shooter-fans/">A Milestone for Wii shooter fans</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Mon, 21 Jul 2008 09:30:00 EST. While most readers of Wii Fanboy don't have to face this kind of problem, there are many nations throughout the world that force gamers to resort to the gray market to pick up their system of choice. Take India, for example, the second most populated country in the world.<br /><br />Sony and Microsoft have distributors in the country, but the Wii doesn't. However, that may change soon enough, after <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/milestone">Milestone Interactive</a> tests out the market for Wii software. We're not entirely confident in Milestone's approach, though. For one, it hardly seems smart to base results on game sales when the console itself hasn't even officially released yet. On the other hand, since that's just how things are in India (and they're not likely to change anytime soon), we can understand Milestone's rush to get the ball rolling.<br /><br />Here comes the other, less excusable problem: the game Milestone chose to distribute is <em>Alone in the Dark Wii</em>. <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/06/27/wrup-certainly-not-alone-in-the-dark-edition/">Not even critics</a> are playing the Wii version of <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/alone-in-the-dark">Alone in the Dark</a></em>, so is it fair to assess the Wii's chances based on Atari's survival horror title? Also, because Indian gamers import their Wiis, we wonder if the region of the disc will have any effect on sales.<br /><br />At least this is a step in the right direction, but now that supply for the Wii is starting to meet demand globally, we hope Nintendo branches out into some of the areas it currently neglects.<br /><br />

European gamers that feel naked without a mic in their hand can use the other to pat themselves on the back, as Sony just dropped word that its <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/singstar/"><em>SingStar</em></a> franchise has sold through 12 million copies in the PAL region, with some 5 million of these going out the door between last April and March 2008. <br /><br />In addition, with the SingStore <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/02/28/singstar-singstore-gets-67-songs-with-march-7-update/">finally gaining traction</a>, Sony also announced that PAL gamers have downloaded a million tracks in the four months since the store opened. Also impressive is that the store's 140,000 registered users, together with members of the game's <a href="http://www.singstargame.com/">official website</a>, have recorded and shared 20,000 videos of players belting out tunes from the comfort of their living rooms -- public embarrassment that has been watched some 2.5 million times.<br /><br />The <em>SingStar </em>series first got players in Europe singing off-tune renditions of "Careless Whisper" and "Like a Virgin" in 2004, and has since spawned numerous sequels, including last December's <em>SingStar </em>for the PlayStation 3 and the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/04/16/singstar-vol-2-announced-new-tracks-available-friday/">soon-to-be released <em>Volume 2</em></a>. Now, with <em>SingStar </em>for the PS3 finally getting <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/04/25/singstar-ps3-screams-into-north-america-may-20-playable-at-coac/">a release in North America on May 20</a>, it will be interesting to see how enthusiasm on this side of the Atlantic for the game measures up.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/04/26/singstar-series-sells-12-million-units-in-pal-territories/">SingStar series sells 12 million units in PAL territories</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Sat, 26 Apr 2008 16:30:00 EST. The top-selling video game of all time has just surpassed another milestone, as EA announced that <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/sims/">The Sims</a>, which has been released in more than 20 different languages, has now sold 100 million copies the world over since it sprang from the mind of super-developer Will Wright in 2000. The first game's expansion-laden release was followed by <em>The Sims 2</em> in the fall of 2004, while the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/03/19/ea-releses-first-details-on-sims-3/">recently announced <em>The Sims 3</em></a> will drop sometime in 2009, for the first time letting sims venture beyond their front doors and into the neighborhood. <br /><br />The idea of 100 million of anything is difficult for us to wrap our brains around, so we cornered Rod Humble, the brand's studio head, to pick his noodle on <em>The Sims</em>, particularly with regards to the franchise's expansion-heavy history. So, with pets, night-life, and even magic tricks to pick from, what add-ons do players continue to ask for that's not yet available? Says Humble, "Right now our players are keen to playing an expansion pack that focuses on living in a big city...other ideas I've seen in the community include a rave/party pack and science fiction pack." Little green sims? We can support that.<br /><br />Look for the complete interview with the EA exec on <em>The Sims</em> franchise, expansions, and where it goes from here later today.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/04/16/the-sims-surpasses-100-million-units-sold-worldwide/">The Sims surpasses 100 million units sold worldwide</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 16 Apr 2008 08:50:00 EST. The PS3 rode the Blu-ray past the 2 million sales mark in Japan recently according to Media Create. <a href="http://www.gamesindustry.biz/articles/ps3-passes-2-million-mark-in-japan">GI.biz</a> reports the PS3's little milestone was severely overshadowed by the incredible sales the PSP is currently pulling off due to <em>Monster Hunter Portable 2nd G</em>, which surpassed 1.5 million units sold in two weeks since launch.<br /><br />For the sake of comparison, the Nintendo Wii <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/01/23/wii-surpasses-5-million-in-japan/">passed the 5 million mark</a> in Japan earlier this year -- it's probably creeping up on six by now. Meanwhile (don't laugh) the Xbox 360 gently rocks in the corner, wondering what it did wrong, with a regional lifetime sales figure of 555,000. Poor little guy.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/04/11/ps3-sales-pass-2-million-in-japan/">PS3 sales pass 2 million in Japan</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Fri, 11 Apr 2008 10:20:00 EST. It was once planned to be released this month, but <a href="http://www.ncsx.com/2008/031708/ncs0317u.htm">NCSX said</a> that retail preorders for the game were "apparently ... insubstantial." Insubstantial <em>for a shooting game.</em> We're guessing retailers had yet to see the stylish boxart when orders should have gone out.<br /><br />Even though the collection was never announced for localization, we were hoping for it. <em>Radilgy</em> was already <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/06/02/radio-allergy-cancelled/">cancelled once</a>, and we hoped that it would come along with <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/07/11/karous-dodges-bullets-makes-it-to-wii/"><em>Karous</em></a> via this disc. But now it's been (effectively) cancelled again before the Japanese release. Not a good sign. Maybe shmups on the Wii face too much competition from the Virtual Console?<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/03/19/milestone-shooting-collection-release-date-shot-down/">Milestone Shooting Collection release date shot down</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 19 Mar 2008 10:30:00 EST. Now the package is officially called <em>Milestone Shooting Collection Karous Wii</em>, and it's being released in Japan on March 27th. <br /><br /><em>Karous</em> has been enhanced with some slight waggle: you can now swing the Wiimote in order to swing the sword weapon. It sounds kind of distracting to have the controller waving around while you're trying to make precise movements. We would like Classic Controller/Hori stick play with this title, so we hope that the waggle is optional (and that the game supports the Classic).<br /><br /><em>Radilgy</em> and <em>Chaos Field</em> seem to have been left untouched from their Gamecube iterations. Not that we mind -- the only difference we want to see in <em>Radilgy</em> is in the crucial "being released in the U.S." category.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/02/27/milestone-emphasizes-bonus-games-on-karous-wii-release/">Milestone emphasizes bonus games on Karous Wii release</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 27 Feb 2008 09:45:00 EST. Capcom's leather-clad bender <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/devilmaycry4"><em>Devil May Cry 4</em></a> has shipped out an impressive 2 million units since its debut two weeks ago, making it the first game in the opulent franchise to reach the milestone so quickly and the latest feather in the cap for Capcom's now 9 million unit selling series.<br /><br />This accolade is no doubt helped by the fact that the sequel, unlike those that came before it, was released for two platforms simultaneously, satiating players' thirst for over-the-top action regardless if they wave their banner over the Xbox 360 or PS3. In addition, Capcom continues to note that a PC version, for those inclined to play console-style games while tethered to their monitor and desk chair, will be released in the months ahead.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/02/20/devil-may-cry-4-sheds-2-million-tears/">Devil May Cry 4 sheds 2 million tears</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 20 Feb 2008 10:00:00 EST. It's got a product code and everything, so this is definitely a for-real thing. Unfortunately, the breathtaking, minimalist boxart used on the product page is <em>not</em>.<br /><br />We're glad to see that developer (and apparently publisher) Milestone is in fact including <em>Chaos Field</em> and <em>Radilgy</em> on the disc, which will release March 27th at a cost of $49. We can only sit and wait for news of a localized version; hopefully O3 will see fit to <em>try again</em> to release <em>Radilgy</em> in the U.S. They <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/06/02/radio-allergy-cancelled/">didn't quite make it</a> with the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/02/20/radio-allergy-delayed-to-march/">GameCube</a> version.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/01/03/karous-3-pack-official-for-japan/">Karous 3-pack official for Japan</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 03 Jan 2008 14:15:00 EST. The Dreamcast shooter is set for release in Japan in late March, and the game will include, as a bonus, both <em>Chaos Field</em> and <em>Radilgy</em>. We're assuming the latter two won't be updated, which is just fine. We'll be too busy shooting <em>everything that moves</em> (in various ways, in various games) to care.<br /><br />Even better news? Since it seems that <em>Karous</em> is going to be <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/07/11/karous-dodges-bullets-makes-it-to-wii/">localized</a> by O3 Entertainment -- who also published the other titles in these parts -- we should get the game with bonuses complete on this side of the ocean. Here's hoping, anyway.<br /><br /><font color="red">Update</font>: Looks like there is no deal between Milestone (the devs) and O3 Entertainment to publish in the United States. Milestone is currently looking for a U.S. publisher, however.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/12/26/karous-and-more-coming-in-march/">Karous (and more) coming in March [update]</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 26 Dec 2007 14:15:00 EST. Given this, it seems that the powers-that-be have been particularly selective about who they let into their sandbox, a practice that we presume <a href="http://www.massively.com/2007/12/05/garriott-says-too-many-beta-testers-hurt-tabula-rasa/">has Lord British chartreuse with envy</a>.<br />
<br />
The devs state that <em>Age of Conan</em> is being patched and updated 'frequently,' and that Funcom plans to "continuously expand the beta efforts in the months to come, including adding tens of thousands of new testers," no doubt welcome news for the thousands of would-be players still waiting at the gate, shivering patiently in their loincloths for the chance to grind alongside fellow barbarians. The MMO, which was first announced way back in Ye Olde 2005, is currently scheduled to ship for the PC on March 25, 2008, though if you are like us you're holding off placing bets quite yet.<br />

O3 Entertainment was the publisher of<em> Chaos Field </em>and the cancelled <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/06/02/radio-allergy-cancelled/">Radio Allergy</a></em>, both of which are <a href="http://www.mile-stone.co.jp">Milestone</a> shooters. Milestone's followup, <em><a href="http://www.mile-stone.co.jp/product/krs/krs_top.html">Karasu</a> </em>(often transliterated as <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/05/17/karous-blasts-onto-the-wii/"><em>Karous</em></a>) has a title that means "Crow." <em>Karasu</em> was announced for the Wii in Japan.<br /><br />Putting it together, we can only arrive at one conclusion: REPLY HAZY TRY AGAIN. Wait, hold on. Stupid <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Magic_8-ball">Magic 8-Ball</a>. Oh, right-- O3 is localizing <em>Karous </em>for US release. We like cel-shading, and we like shooters, so we're a little sad. In a statement to Cubed3, O3 said that there was a <em>hope</em> of putting <em>Radio Allergy</em> on the Wii. No plan, but a hope.<br /><br />Aeropause then <a href="http://www.aeropause.com/archives/2007/06/radio_allergy_c_1.php">speculated</a> that this hypothetical Wii release would be bundled with <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/karous">Karous</a>,</em> the current "last Dreamcast game ever" from Milestone, or-- even better, both <em>Karous </em>and <em><a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chaos_Field">Chaos Field</a>,</em> Milestone's <em>first</em> "last Dreamcast game ever." We do like the idea of more games, but we don't have any evidence of that right now. All we know is that we <em>aren't</em> getting <em>Radio Allergy</em> any time soon. Now there's a game to improve your hearing and listening skills! <em>DS Chounoryoku </em>tests the frequency range of players' hearing, and asks them to identify tones and spoken words. We can't figure out everything that's going on, but it's all hearing-based, and the art is surprisingly poppy and attractive.<br /><br />There are also musical selections for aural relaxation. All of this from Milestone, who usually develops shooters like <em><a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Radilgy">Radio Allergy</a> </em>and <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/karous">Karous</a>. </em>Their <em>Chounoryoku</em> homepage has a weird promotional video that doesn't really show the game at all.<br /><br /><br /><br />[Via <a href="http://www.google.com/translate?u=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.famitsu.com%2Fgame%2Fcoming%2F2007%2F05%2F14%2F104%2C1179107282%2C71599%2C0%2C0.html%3Fref%3Drss&amp;langpair=ja%7Cen&amp;hl=en&amp;ie=UTF8">Famitsu</a>]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/05/29/ds-gets-hearing-training/">DS gets Hearing Training</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 29 May 2007 10:00:00 EST. Who knows, if sales figures are good, a few other <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/shmup">shmups</a> might find their way over. <em>Radiant Silvergun</em> on Wii, anybody? Now we're dreaming ...<br /><br />There's no release date yet, nor any confirmation of a U.S. release. Keep your itchy trigger fingers crossed.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/05/17/karous-blasts-onto-the-wii/">Karous blasts onto the Wii</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 17 May 2007 14:00:00 EST. O3 have delayed the US release of <a href="http://www.mile-stone.co.jp/top.html">Milestone's</a> shmup <a href="http://radioallergy.o3ent.com/"><em>Radio Allergy</em></a> until March 30th. The game, known as <em>Radilgy </em>in Japan, was released on the Gamecube in May of last year. We understand the delay-- shooting games have <em>so much text</em> to translate. Or maybe they didn't want to bring the game out in the midst of a <a href="http://www.ebgames.com/comingsoon.asp?platform=27&amp;sortby=eta&amp;imageFlag=show">busy Gamecube release season</a>. <br /><br /> Also (and this is what makes this news item <em>explicitly appropriate </em>for Wii Fanboy) O3 have deployed the <a href="http://blog.wired.com/games/2006/09/why_rhythm_teng.html"><em>"Rhythm Tengoku</em> trick"</a> in marketing their game-- there's a little "Wii Compatible" icon on the box. They might as well use every tactic they can think of; we get the feeling that selling a shmup for the Gamecube in 2007 is harder than, well, a certain kind of frantic videogame that is notorious for difficulty.<br /><br />We'd actually like to see the "Wii Compatible" tactic used by other developers to sell localized versions of <a href="http://www.nintendo.co.jp/ngc/ggfj/index.html">obscure titles</a> from the Gamecube <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mr._Driller:_Drill_Land">back</a> <a href="http://nfggames.com/games/bonkgc/">catalog</a> at budget prices, but we think it would take a more popular game to start a trend. What do you think?<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/02/20/radio-allergy-delayed-to-march/">Radio Allergy delayed to March</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 20 Feb 2007 11:15:00 EST. None of these. O~3 Entertainment has settled on '<em>Radio Allergy</em>' for the North American release of Milestone's GameCube port of the throwback arcade shooter. <em>Radio Allergy</em> is due February 2007 for <a target="_blank" href="http://www.amazon.com/O3-Entertainment-Radio-Allergy-Radigry/dp/B000K9YJKI/sr=8-1/qid=1167185895/ref=pd_bbs_sr_1/104-3967637-4407141?ie=UTF8&amp;s=videogames">a mere $20</a>.<em><br /><br />Radilgy</em> made its <a target="_blank" href="http://www.joystiq.com/2005/12/11/segas-re-releasing-the-dreamcast-in-japan/">console debut</a> on Dreamcast this past February in Japan -- yeah, that's right, Dreamcast. A few months later additional versions wound up on PlayStation 2 and GameCube. <em>Radio Allergy</em> is a vertical shmup with anime flair. It's no <em>Ikaruga</em>, but anytime a classic-style shoot-em-up makes it out of Japan it's a blessing.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2006/12/26/radilgy-now-radio-allergy-gcn-shooter-westbound/">Radilgy now Radio Allergy, GCN shooter westbound</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 26 Dec 2006 22:25:00 EST.
