Jones, whose previous work includes <em>Moon</em> and <em>Source Code</em>, is an award-winning English director and the son of music icon David Bowie. Joystiq has also obtained separate confirmation that Jones is indeed signed to direct <em>Warcraft</em>.<br /><br />Legendary Pictures <a href="http://wow.joystiq.com/2012/08/03/warcraft-movie-takes-on-charles-leavitt-for-scriptwriting/">tapped</a> scriptwriter Charles Leavitt back in August and has chosen to stick with his adaptation. Previously, Sam Raimi was up to direct but chose to <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/07/18/sam-raimi-off-world-of-warcraft-film-in-light-of-oz-the-great-a/">opt out</a> instead for another film, <em>Oz: The Great and Powerful</em>. The plan is to start filming <em>Warcraft</em> this fall, with a theatrical release in 2015.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2013/01/30/warcraft-movie-adds-source-code-director-duncan-jones-to-its-par/">Warcraft movie to be helmed by Source Code director Duncan Jones</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 30 Jan 2013 19:55:00 EST. The studio is taking a step forward in 2011 and is currently in talks with an unspecified publisher to convert an existing game to the 3DS (for which it's already <a href="http://www.renegadekid.com/company.htm">authorized</a> as a developer).<br />
<br />
"Right now, we're in heavy get-new-projects mode," Renegade Kid co-founder Jools Watsham <a href="http://joolswatsham.blogspot.com/2011/01/2011-goodness.html?spref=tw">wrote on his blog</a> this past weekend. "There is one 3DS title that we're in talks about with a publisher. It is a really cool game. It would be a conversion of an existing title, which we would bring to the 3DS. Let's call it code-named 'Planet.'" Watsham said that the game is close to being signed with a publisher -- "in theory" -- but kept his optimism restrained for the time being. "But, anything can happen in the world of business, so all we can do is hope everything stays its course and we sign it soon."<br />
<br />
Watsham recently gauged interest in a DSiWare version of <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/06/30/renegade-kid-working-on-platformer-for-ds/">Maximillian and the Rise of the Mutant Mudds</a></em>, a colorful DS platformer announced in June 2009 that's been in search of a publisher ever since. Renegade Kid was looking for at least 1,000 comments on the <a href="http://joolswatsham.blogspot.com/2010/12/maximilian-and-rise-of-mutant-mudds.html">polling post</a>, but has elicited fewer than 500 thus far. "This is sad, but also exactly why we asked for votes; to help us gauge whether development of the game would be financially wise or not," Watsham wrote. "Honestly, if we can't scrounge up at least 1,000 votes in one month, it's a fair sign that there aren't enough people out there interested in the game, DSiWare, or both."<br />
<br />
Renegade Kid's first game (of at least three) for 2011 is <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/12/07/renegade-kid-takes-ds-on-an-atv-wild-ride/"><em>ATV Wild Ride</em></a>, a non-terrifying racing game. Mind you, we haven't seen what the ghastly, disfiguring crashes look like.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/01/03/indie-dev-renegade-kid-targeting-3ds-in-2011/">Indie dev Renegade Kid targeting 3DS in 2011</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Mon, 03 Jan 2011 21:00:00 EST. If you're not familiar with Moon, it's an inventive RPG about a child sucked into the world of a (fictional) RPG, also called <em>Moon.</em> After playing through the game in his real life, he must then follow in the path of an insane, level-hungry "Hero" in the game's world, and help bring peace to the souls of the monsters murdered for XP. Read this <a href="http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showthread.php?t=376513">NeoGAF thread</a> and this <a href="http://www.hardcoregaming101.net/lovedelic/lovedelic.htm">HG101 article</a> for more detail. <br />
<br />
Showing your support for the sequel (and, likely, helping Nishi find a publishing partner to fund its development) couldn't be easier: simply include the #moon2 hashtag in your tweets. In the event that Moon 2 does get made, Nishi has already said he "<a href="http:// http://twitter.com/#!/Route24/status/27239751616">hopes</a>" to bring it to the west as well.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/10/13/chibi-robo-creator-tweeting-for-a-moon-sequel/">Chibi-Robo creator tweeting for a Moon sequel</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 13 Oct 2010 11:45:00 EST. If the Army can <a href="http://www.americasarmy.com/">release a free video game</a> to drum up some attention for its cause, why not NASA? That seems to be the argument behind <a href="http://joystiq.com/tag/moonbase-alpha"><em>Moonbase Alpha</em></a>, a free game <a href="http://www.nasa.gov/offices/education/programs/national/ltp/games/moonbasealpha/index.html">developed along with NASA</a> that's now <a href="http://store.steampowered.com/app/39000/">available on Steam</a>. With up to six players at a time, the game allows you to experience the surface of the moon while trying to "repair and replace equipment in order to restore the oxygen production to the settlement," after a meteorite causes system failure.<br />
<br />
<a href="http://www.moonbasealphagame.com/">The official page</a> calls it a "First Person Explorer" title, and shows players fixing equipment connections and even building and controlling a Wall-E style repair robot. The graphics even look good, too -- exactly like that television studio NASA filmed those "moon landings" in. Nice try, NASA, but everybody knows it's nothing but green cheese up there.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/07/08/nasa-releases-free-moon-simulator-moonbase-alpha/">NASA's free Moonbase Alpha now available</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 08 Jul 2010 10:00:00 EST. Not content with his sovereignty over the nonexistent kingdom of Britannia, game designer and space traveler <a href="http://joystiq.com/tag/richard-garriott">Richard Garriott</a> is now claiming dominion over a small area of the moon. At a 1993 auction, Garriott purchased the rights to a Russian rover that was, at the time, lost on the moon. Last week, it was spotted again, and the Portalarium founder is using that as the basis for his land grab. "
<meta charset="utf-8">I'm the only private individual with a flag or stake on the soil of the Moon," Garriott told <a href="http://www.metro.co.uk/news/819463-space-tourist-i-own-part-of-the-moon">Metro</a>, "and, thus, at the least I might be able to make some claim to the land beneath it, if not even more territory." <br />
<br />
Speaking to <a href="http://www.space.com/news/soviet-moon-rover-space-law-100322.html">Space.com</a>, Joanne Irene Gabrynowicz, Director of the National Center for Remote Sensing, Air and Space Law denied Garriott's half-joking assertion. "The USSR was and Russia is a party to the Outer Space Treaty," she said. "It did not acquire the territory under the object when it landed. One cannot sell what one does not own. Since USSR/Russia did not have a property right to the territory under the landed object, there was nothing to sell." Garriott's just going to have to be satisfied with being the only private owner of an object on the moon, which, luckily, is completely awesome.<br />

With their games <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/08/15/new-moon-trailer-is-short-but-shows-off-plenty/"><em>Moon</em></a> and <em>Dementium</em>, they've attempted to bring a big-console feel to the dual screens, and the two represent a genre outside of the handheld's typical comfort zone. <em>Moon</em> and <em>Dementium</em> aren't so colorful as most DS games, and they lack the familiarity of a game like <span style="font-style: italic;">Metroid Prime Hunters</span>. These are games of atmosphere, and often, there's blood on the walls and malice in the air. <br /><br />So it's fitting that their games are also about exploration, about discovering limits and new areas. Renegade Kid may not succeed in every aim -- and <em>Moon</em> does not -- but they're doing <span style="font-style: italic;">something different </span>(at least, for the DS). When you're talking about a phenomenon like the DS, when everyone wants in, and everyone is releasing games on it, companies that go against the norm are to be lauded if they are at all successful. Though <em>Moon</em> is uneven, it succeeds in a lot of ways, and so it is to be lauded, too.<br />

Developer <a href="http://joystiq.com/tag/renegade-kid">Renegade Kid</a> has shown it is quite technically proficient when it comes to making a first-person shooter on the DS. In 2007, it surprised us with <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/11/01/metareview-dementium-the-ward-ds/">Dementium: The Ward</a></em>, and now the small development team brings <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/moon"><em>Moon</em></a> to the dual screens of the DS. The early reviews are all across the map in raw score, but they seem to chime in on the game's technical achievement and certain gameplay issues. Wait, <em>read</em> a review instead of just looking at the number? We know, this is madness we speak of.<br />
<ul>
    <li><a href="http://ds.ign.com/articles/943/943581p1.html">IGN</a> <strong>(85/100)</strong>: "When it comes to making a purchase decision on <em>Moon</em>, I encourage anyone that loves FPS games on DS to check this one out, as its technical offering, story, design, style, and control are all amazingly well done. The game can certainly get repetitive at times, as a few bosses are used multiple times with compounding difficulty elements added to them to change things up a bit ... but for the most part Renegade Kid has offered an experience that's more tuned towards the adventure side of things, adding in plenty of combat to keep the experience fresh."</li>
    <li>Nintendo Power <strong>(75/100)</strong>: "Quickly becoming the torchbearers for the FPS genre on the DS, Renegade Kid builds on lessons learned from last year's horror title <em>Dementium: The Ward</em>... the game ratchets up the action... compelling story and diverse gameplay."</li>
    <li><a href="http://www.modojo.com/reviews/ds/moon/20090115/779/">Modojo</a> <strong>(60/100)</strong>: "We have mixed feelings with Moon. It's a superb visual achievement with spectacular controls and fun shooting, but we grew tired of the old school "hit this switch to activate this door" gameplay. So long as you go into it expecting a slow-paced first person adventure instead of Doom, you'll enjoy this lunar vacation."</li>
    <li><a href="http://www.gamepro.com/article/reviews/208555/moon/">GamePro</a> <strong>(40/100)</strong>: "Moon proves itself as a creepy and innovative portable FPS experience, weighed down by a severe lack of challenge and variety."</li>

January's been slow so far, but this week, <span style="font-style: italic;">Moon</span> <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/01/05/ds-releases-for-the-week-of-january-5th/">really is coming out</a>, along with a few other titles. ... at least, this might be called a "leisurely drive" if, say, you really enjoyed an all-terrain, life-threatening romp with lots of gunfire. Which is <em>actually</em> pretty likely if you're interested in Renegade Kid's <em>Moon</em>. The <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/11/24/all-the-moon-thats-fit-to-watch/">latest</a> from director and co-owner <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/08/26/watch-someone-else-access-the-moon-website/">Jools Watsham</a> shows off some of the game's vehicular mayhem, courtesy of the LOLA-RR10, which is all armor and pew-pew-pew-style action. Which is to say that she ain't as pretty as a BMW, but she might be up for the title of "ultimate driving machine" ...<em> on the moon</em>.<br /><br />Contrary to <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/01/05/ds-releases-for-the-week-of-january-5th/">some reports</a>, <em>Moon</em> releases next week. If you're very, very good, we might tell you whether or not it's as fun as it looks. <br />

There's not much going on this week unless you're a DS fan in North America. If not, you're a bit out of luck, as Europe, Australia, and Japan have no new games scheduled this week, and here ... well, there's a slight scattering of other games, but mostly? It's the DS show. We've got at least one interesting title headed out, too: the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/12/15/play-a-bit-of-elebits-now-via-the-nintendo-channel/"><em>Elebits</em></a> follow up. <em>Moon</em> is scheduled, but we think that one's really headed out next week rather than this week. Time and the store shelves will tell, though.<br />

And now you know everything we know about the game, which Renegade Kid's Jools Watsham describes as "the game that I'm most excited about ever in my career."<br /><br />The studio's owner and game director teased the project in a video posted on his personal blog, noting only his enthusiasm and that the game has nothing to do with Dracula, the rumored subject of an upcoming Wii project from the company. More information about the mysterious project is expected to be released at a later date, though Watsham concedes that it's likely "going to be a while." Until then, we await Renegade Kid to set off on its <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/11/10/ds-fps-moon-eclipses-into-january-2009/">slightly delayed</a> trip to the Moon on January 13.<br /><br />[Via <a href="http://www.dsfanboy.com/2008/12/30/renegade-kid-teases-new-project/">DSF</a>]<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/12/31/renegade-kid-teases-new-project/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Renegade Kid teases new project</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/12/31/renegade-kid-teases-new-project/">Renegade Kid teases new project</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 31 Dec 2008 10:00:00 EST. But in this industry, where <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/12/22/telling-stories-balancing-gameplay-v-narrative/">story shares a balance with gameplay</a> and endings often get the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/12/23/telling-stories-whats-up-with-lame-endings/">short end of the development stick</a>, weaving a complete and compelling tale must be a daunting task. Now, gifts unwrapped and bellies full, <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/telling-stories">our panel of industry personalities</a> sound off on those games that they feel were up to the challenge, delivering storytelling experiences above and beyond their peers.</div>

Interestingly, much of the group was noticibly more tight-lipped in their responses than when answering other questions.</div>

<em>As games have evolved, so too has the role of storytelling in the titles we play. As we turn the corner on 2008, we asked multiple industry personalities across all walks of game development on titles such as </em>Dragon Age: Origins<em>, </em>Bionic Commando<em> and </em>Guild Wars<em> for their thoughts.</em><br /><br />How important are stories? How about endings? Over the next week this diverse group of personalities sounds off on these and other story-driven topics, starting today as we open up by asking whether or not narrative shares an equal burden as gameplay in carrying the video game experience.<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/12/22/telling-stories-balancing-gameplay-v-narrative/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Telling stories: Balancing gameplay v. narrative</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/12/22/telling-stories-balancing-gameplay-v-narrative/">Telling stories: Balancing gameplay v. narrative</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Mon, 22 Dec 2008 13:25:00 EST. The audience seems a bit torn on the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/11/08/m-o-o-n-that-spells-delayed/">recently-delayed</a> <em>Moon</em>, and considering the fact that Renegade Kid's first title, <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/11/12/ds-fanboy-review-dementium-the-ward/"><em>Dementium</em></a>, saw the same sort of split in audience, it's familiar ground we're treading. Also familiar is the constant flow of media, which is <em>never</em> a bad thing. Not sure where you stand on <em>Moon</em>? Perhaps this new pack of videos will help you out.<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/11/24/all-the-moon-thats-fit-to-watch/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>All the Moon that's fit to watch</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/11/24/all-the-moon-thats-fit-to-watch/">All the Moon that's fit to watch</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Mon, 24 Nov 2008 11:00:00 EST. <em>Moon</em> may be <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/11/08/m-o-o-n-that-spells-delayed/">delayed</a>, but that doesn't mean Renegade Kid is going to make you suffer without getting peeks at the game. Not only did we <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/11/11/screens-from-a-distant-moon/">recently</a> get to check out a batch of new screens, but they've released a combat-heavy new trailer, too. With all the pretty, pretty lights in this footage, we kinda felt like we need a glow stick and a pair of very large pants in order to get the full effect.

Oh, well, it's <em>supposed</em> to take a long time to reach the moon, right?<br /><br />It's amazing how well Renegade Kid seems to be setting the tone for the game. Even while looking at tiny, still images on our monitors, we get a feeling of <em>isolation</em> -- like someone trapped inside an impermeable suit in a completely still, desolate landscape. <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/11/12/ds-fanboy-review-dementium-the-ward/"><em>Dementium</em></a> may be the "horror" game, but this is a lot scarier in a way -- we can relate to extreme loneliness a lot more easily than monsters.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/11/11/screens-from-a-distant-moon/">Screens from a distant Moon</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 11 Nov 2008 18:00:00 EST. If <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/06/19/first-moon-explorations-were-on-the-game-boy-color/"><em>Moon</em></a> is delayed, that may be a little disappointing for us, sure, but in the long run, it may be better for the game, so it doesn't get lost in the holiday rush. We haven't seen an official statement on the delay, but for now, we're trusting Amazon and thinking January.<br /><br />As a side note, the box art on Amazon is slightly different, too; it's a little darker, with the face and the reflections in the helmet a little more clearly defined. Perhaps the game itself is getting a last-minute tune-up as well.<br /><br />[Update: Mastiff sent out a press release confirming the delay. <em>Moon</em> is now scheduled for January 13.]<br /><br />[Thanks, Adam!]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/11/08/m-o-o-n-that-spells-delayed/">M-O-O-N, that spells delayed [update]</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Sat, 08 Nov 2008 15:00:00 EST. We <em>guess</em>. But why would you want to do that when you can instead sit back and watch Renegade Kid's Jools Watsham visit the site for you?<br /><br />Watsham's latest post on his IGN developer's blog doesn't include an actual link to the new site -- just the video of Watsham showing off the features. If you want to do something as <em>renegade</em> as checking out <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/08/22/ds-daily-moon/"><em>Moon</em></a> for yourself, you have to get the link from the video.<br /><br />Keep an eye out in the future for the special limited edition <em>Moon</em> pack, which features not an actual game (as if), but instead, video of Watsham playing it. In the comments, reader John B. <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/07/03/moon-footage-defies-gravity-hardware-limitations/#c12997633">argued</a> that no matter how much impressive technology Renegade Kid throws at <em>Moon</em>, it wouldn't be enough, because first-person shooters just don't work as well on the DS.<br /><br />We're of the opinion that the handheld currently lacks a great FPS, but do you think the DS will ever see a triple-A game in this genre, given its obvious technical limitations?<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/07/04/ds-daily-fps/">DS Daily: FPS</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Fri, 04 Jul 2008 10:00:00 EST. The <em>Dementium</em> creator, like <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/05/02/okamoto-second-atari-crash-possible-for-ds/">other developers</a>, sees too many cheap me-too DS games being thrown into the market, calling it "the inevitable cash-cow-console catastrophe." One bright spot in recent DS releases? <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/11/19/ds-fanboy-review-contra-4/">Contra 4</a>.</em> <br /><br />When the subject turns away from the awesome <em>Contra 4</em> and toward <em>Moon</em>, Watsham reveals that <em>Moon</em> has been in the works in one form or another for a <em>long</em> time. It began its life as a Game Boy Color game, before going through "many changes since that original idea" and ending up as an FPS built on the technology used to create <em>Dementium.</em> Technology that other companies want, and that Renegade Kid is considering licensing.<br /><br />While you're reading, you can also have a look at GamesRadar's new screens <em>-- including a very special codec moment</em>.<br /><br />
<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/06/19/first-moon-explorations-were-on-the-game-boy-color/">First Moon explorations were on the Game Boy Color</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 19 Jun 2008 14:45:00 EST. <br />As it does every month, <em>Nintendo Power</em> closed its latest issue with a preview of the next installment, guaranteeing updates on <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/Sonic-Chronicles/">Sonic Chronicles</a></em>, <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/Time-Hollow/">Time Hollow</a></em>, and <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/Ghostbusters/">Ghostbusters</a></em>. The magazine's writers also hinted at "a surprise or two," suggesting readers study the Moon image above for hidden clues.<br /><br />Our eyes must be suffering from spring allergies, as we haven't picked up any clues after <em>hours</em> of staring at the page. Will it be a preview of Renegade Kid's <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/Moon/">Moon</a></em>? Perhaps another entry for the <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/harvest-moon">Harvest Moon</a></em> series? Or maybe <em>Nintendo Power</em> just wants our attention on the white satellite before it pulling off its grandest, most villainous stratagem yet -- <a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bWCKaFNJIf8">carving its name</a> into the Moon with a laser cannon.<br /><br />Give us your best guesses!<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/04/30/nintendo-power-promises-the-moon/">Nintendo Power promises the moon</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 30 Apr 2008 12:00:00 EST. Creative Director <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/10/24/renegade-kid-on-dementium-and-the-limits-of-the-ds/">Jools Watsham</a> updated his blog at IGN with a short video that features some low quality footage of the game, and even through a pokey webcam, it looks incredible. You all know <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/11/12/ds-fanboy-review-dementium-the-ward/">we dug <em>Dementiunm</em></a>. It was a fine title and a decent FPS on a handheld that is seriously lacking in that department. Now, <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/renegade-kid">Renegade Kid</a> is preparing their second FPS for Nintendo's handheld in <em>Moon</em>. What should we expect?<br /><br />Well, Renegade Kid's owner and creative director, Jools Watsham, spoke with Joystiq about the new project and reassured us it's going to be something we'll want to play. It's a pretty interesting read, if we may say so. Head on over and <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/04/14/joystiq-interview-renegade-kid-versus-the-moon/">check it out</a> already!<br /><br />
<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/04/14/renegade-kid-says-moon-will-rock-harder-than-dementium/">Renegade Kid says Moon will rock harder than Dementium</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Mon, 14 Apr 2008 16:00:00 EST. When independent developer <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/renegadekid/">Renegade Kid</a> first announced its follow up title to last year's <span style="font-style: italic;">Dementium: the Ward</span>, few details were offered as to what it was exactly that the studio was up to. <br /><br />Titled simply <span style="font-style: italic;">Moon</span>, the game was said to again be played from the first-person, but beyond the vantage and supposed setting, we were left wondering. It didn't take us long to tire of the guessing game however, so we arranged to speak with Renegade Kid's owner and creative director Jools Watsham to find out more about the company's latest offspring, how it differs from <span style="font-style: italic;">Dementium</span>, and why the studio opted to go with a different publisher, in this case <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/mastiff">Mastiff</a>, rather than <em>Dementium </em>publisher <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/gamecock">Gamecock</a>. Read on to see what he had to say.<br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/moon-1/">Moon</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/moon-1/#746119"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2008/04/moontitle_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/moon-1/#746118"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2008/04/moon010_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/moon-1/#746117"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2008/04/moon007_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/moon-1/#746116"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2008/04/moon006_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/moon-1/#746115"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2008/04/moon002_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/04/14/joystiq-interview-renegade-kid-versus-the-moon/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Joystiq interview: Renegade Kid versus the Moon</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/04/14/joystiq-interview-renegade-kid-versus-the-moon/">Joystiq interview: Renegade Kid versus the Moon</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Mon, 14 Apr 2008 12:30:00 EST. <em>Dementium: The Ward</em>, developer <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/RenegadeKid/">Renegade Kid</a>'s debut release for the Nintendo DS, certainly pushed the frontier of what we expect from handheld gaming, but it was far from perfect. Company co-owner Jools Watsham conceded as much to us during a recent interview, but added that Renegade Kid's next project, the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/03/14/renegade-kids-project-m-revealed-as-ds-action-title-moon/">recently announced</a> DS title <em>Moon</em>, will be even "more ambitious" than the studio's freshman effort.<br /><br />"We're being much more ambitious with the environments, particle effects, enemies and cinematic cut-scenes," commented Watsham. "Even though we pushed the DS with <em>Demenitum</em>, we were still being slightly cautious due to our time frame and growing experience with the platform. This time around with <em>Moon</em>, we are being a little less cautious while still be expressive and ambitious."<br /><br />He also took a moment to reflect back on <em>Dementium</em>, noting that the survival horror title's save system was a particular sticking point among those who played the game. "Most people hated the save system in <em>Dementium</em>... <em>Moon </em>is structured very differently than <em>Dementium</em>. The game is presented in episodes, and within each episode there are checkpoints that save your progress."<br /><br />For more from Renegade Kid's Watsham on <em>Moon</em>, including <em>Moon</em>'s possible future for the Wii and why the company's decision to go with publisher Mastiff instead of <em>Dementium </em>pub Gamecock is really much ado about nothing, check out our full interview on Monday and the first screens from the game below.<br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/moon-1/">Moon</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/moon-1/#746119"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2008/04/moontitle_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/moon-1/#746118"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2008/04/moon010_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/moon-1/#746117"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2008/04/moon007_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/moon-1/#746116"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2008/04/moon006_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/moon-1/#746115"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2008/04/moon002_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/04/11/renegade-kid-calls-moon-more-ambitious-than-dementium/">Renegade Kid calls Moon 'more ambitious' than Dementium</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Fri, 11 Apr 2008 08:00:00 EST. First, Renegade Kid did <a href="http://dsfanboy.com/tag/dementium">horror</a>. Next up is science fiction for the burgeoning studio, with <em>Moon</em>, a first-person adventure with a <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/03/14/moon-on-collision-course-with-ds/">trailer featuring a distinct John Carpenter vibe</a>. <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/10/24/renegade-kid-on-dementium-and-the-limits-of-the-ds/">Jools Watsham</a>, director and producer on <em>Moon</em>, recently spoke with IGN regarding their plans for this title. <br /><br />While most of the interview covers the basics of the game, there are some interesting moments focused on <em>Dementium's</em> flaws and how they're trying to deal with those issues with the development of <em>Moon</em>. <em>Dementium</em> fans will be happy to hear that the save system is being addressed, and it sounds as though the similarity of the level designs from is also much on their minds. From the sound of it, we may be treated to an even better experience this time around -- which would truly be something to see.<br />
<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/04/10/moon-interview-sheds-some-light-on-past-mistakes/">Moon interview sheds some light on past mistakes</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 10 Apr 2008 15:00:00 EST. <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/renegade-kid">Renegade Kid</a>, they of <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/11/12/ds-fanboy-review-dementium-the-ward/"><em>Dementium: The Ward</em></a> fame, have whipped the covers off of their next DS project. <em>Moon</em> <strike><strike>is a series of minigames centered entirely around revealing one's backside in an assortment of <em>hilarious</em> scenarios</strike></strike> is the new name for the game formerly known as "Project M," and will take the form of a first-person, sci-fi, action-adventure set in 2058.<br /><br />Featuring isolated lunar bases and mysterious alien hatches, publisher Mastiff describes the experience as "dark, twisted, heart-pounding, frequently violent and always disturbing." We like! Incidentally, <em>Moon</em> will be built on the same engine that powered <em>Dementium</em>. We've embedded it for your viewing pleasure above.<br /><br />[Via press release]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/03/14/moon-on-collision-course-with-ds/">Moon on collision course with DS [Update: First trailer]</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Fri, 14 Mar 2008 13:30:00 EST. From the fetid halls of <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/Dementium/">Dementium</a> </em>to the vacuous surface of the moon, developer Renegade Kid has proven that it isn't shy about taking its first two projects into uncharted territories. Publisher Mastiff has revealed that the dev's second project, <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/10/31/mastiff-to-publish-renegade-kids-dementium-followup-project-m/">previously known as "Project M,"</a> is in fact a futuristic action title for the Nintendo DS simply called <em>Moon</em>.<br /><br />While we'll continue to wait for a simulation of that timeless Saturday night ritual of flashing our bare posteriors to cars on the freeway, <em>Moon </em>instead will take us to the lunar surface in 2058 for a first-person adventure that according to Mastiff's hilariously titled "Head Woof" Bill Swartz is "frequently violent" and "always disturbing." We'll have to take his word for it, as neither screens nor a release date have been released, leaving us to replay <em>Dementium </em>and squint at the screen while mentally replacing crazed mental patients with equally crazed aliens -- we should do all of our previews this way.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/03/14/renegade-kids-project-m-revealed-as-ds-action-title-moon/">Renegade Kid's Project M revealed as DS action title 'Moon'</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Fri, 14 Mar 2008 09:40:00 EST. When Nintendo sent us an email this weekend, we had some trouble making it out. We found images of Mario and Buzz Aldrin hanging out in a zero gravity environment, but we failed to see just how this coming together of the two celebrates the release of the upcoming <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/11/03/buy-super-mario-galaxy-at-toys-r-us-get-a-25-gift-card/"><em>Super Mario Galaxy</em></a>. Seriously, it was just a press release of a couple of images depicting the two hanging out.<br /><br />As responsible bloggers, we felt obligated to present them. But, we're sure that after this little photo shoot, the inside of that Mario suit must smell something awful. And, we hope the person inside remembered the cardinal rule of being around Buzz: don't ever say he faked the moon landing.<br /><br />See what we mean past the post break.<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/11/05/lets-promote-our-game-by-hanging-out-with-an-old-dude/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Let's promote our game by hanging out with an old dude</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/11/05/lets-promote-our-game-by-hanging-out-with-an-old-dude/">Let's promote our game by hanging out with an old dude</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Mon, 05 Nov 2007 16:00:00 EST. A fresh trailer for <span style="font-style: italic;">Harvest Moon Heroes</span> has blossomed, bearing several juicy pieces of fruit that which we may pluck and savor for almost two minutes. The latest trailer, or delicious fruit that is ripe for the plucking, focuses on the town aspect of the game as we see the protagonist navigating the streets and speaking with the inhabitants.
