The movie will hit your local cineplex on October 26, and when we say "hit," we mean "climb through a moist, fleshy hole, screaming with the voice of an injured fawn trapped at the bottom of a well."<br /><br /><em>Silent Hill: Revelation 3D</em> stars Sean Bean, Carrie-Anne Moss and loosely follows the plot of <em>Silent Hill 3</em>, in that one of the characters is named Heather Mason and there's a lot of gross stuff probably. Silent Hill films that <em>aren't</em> about James Sunderland still don't really sit well with us, but we'll see anything that reportedly has Akira Yamaoka's music in it.<br /><br />Actually, we <em>have</em> to see anything with Akira Yamaoka's music in it. We attended a talk he gave during GDC once, and the music he played for his panel was actually a spiritually binding contract with dark, eldritch terrors. If we don't see this movie, bad things will happen to our organs.<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/04/18/silent-hill-revelation-3d-in-theaters-october-26/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Silent Hill: Revelation 3D in theaters October 26</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/04/18/silent-hill-revelation-3d-in-theaters-october-26/">Silent Hill: Revelation 3D in theaters October 26</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 18 Apr 2012 19:00:00 EST. Avi and Ari Arad (who formerly worked with Marvel on the <em>Spider-Man</em> series, among other projects) are said to be producing the movie, should it come to fruition.<br /><br />If the deal pans out, the screenplay would follow the story of the games, pitting a series of vehicular combatants, including the iconic Doll Face and Sweet Tooth, against each other in a tournament to win a wish from the devilish Calypso. We don't have a lot of attachment to the game's "story," so we already expect Taylor to take all of the liberties he wants. We do have one fan request, though: Can we get a <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/06/21/interview-david-jaffe-on-twisted-metal-e3-and-lying-to-us/">David Jaffe</a> cameo? At a Q&amp;A following a showing of the film, Miike announced that a worldwide release was planned.<br /><br />According to <a href="http://twitchfilm.com/reviews/2012/01/iffr-2012-review-ace-attorney-leads-the-witnesses.php">Twitchfilm</a>, each version would have both dubbed and subtitled dialogue using the character names from that region's version of the games. So Miles Edgeworth, et al. in America, but ... Benjamin Hunter in France.<br /><br />Now that we have admissible evidence that we'll be able to see the movie, how is it? "This is definitely a love-it or hate-it affair, and if you don't dig the silly caricature tongue-in-cheek atmosphere which inhabits the universe of 'Ace Attorney,' you will tire of the film way before its halfway point has been reached," Twitchfilm said. "But if you DO have fun with it, this is the fastest way to spend almost two and a half hours."<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/01/31/miike-ace-attorney-movie-being-localized-for-worldwide-release/">Miike: Ace Attorney movie being localized for worldwide release</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 31 Jan 2012 19:30:00 EST. Can't make it out to the Sundance film festival to check out the world premiere of the crowdsource-funded documentary <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/indie-game-the-movie"><em>Indie Game: The Movie</em></a>? There's no need to worry, assuming you can score passes to SXSW instead; the film <a href="http://sxsw.com/node/9784">will have a showing</a> at the SXSW ScreenBurn Arcade (March 9 - 11) and SXSW Film (March 9 - 17) next year (<a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QltlctqfY4E">clap, clap, clap, clap</a>) deep in the heart of Austin, Texas.<br />
<br />
The conference will also host a panel presented by <em>IG:TM</em> creators James Swirsky and Lisanne Pajot, along with Phil Fish, the creator of <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/fez"><em>Fez</em></a>, one of the titular indie games. The whole thing is so full-circular, we might just faint.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/12/16/indie-game-the-movie-showing-at-sxsw-creators-hosting-panel/">Indie Game: The Movie showing at SXSW, creators hosting panel</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Fri, 16 Dec 2011 16:20:00 EST. Even though we keep hearing about <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/10/26/too-many-chefs-ken-levines-thoughts-on-auteurship-editorship/">this <em>BioShock</em> movie thing</a>, we're reluctant to believe it'll ever make it to the cineplex. Picture it: a <em>Luigi's Mansion </em>horror flick in the vein of <em>The Blair Witch Project</em>. We're kinda on board with the concept presented here, even if these guys overlooked the potentially lucrative Hoover tie-in.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/10/13/wed-watch-luigis-mansion-the-movie/">We'd watch Luigi's Mansion: The Movie</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 13 Oct 2011 03:00:00 EST. Never before have our hearts received news with such confusion: In a recent interview with <a href="http://movies.ign.com/articles/119/1198680p1.html">IGN</a>, <em>Toy Story</em> writers Alec Sokolow and Joel Cohen hinted at their next project: A movie adaptation of Zynga's <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/farmville"><em>Farmville</em></a> franchise. "We're in conversations with Zynga to do something with one of their brands," they teased. "Can't really say too much on that front yet, but 'Old MacDonald' didn't have a factory, if you get our drift." We do not get your drift. Your drift makes us <em>sad</em>.<br />
<br />
We trust the two to craft a compelling story, but we worry there's not enough rich source material for them to base it on. All we know is we're not looking forward to receiving a hundred daily invitations to go to the movie from our distant, distant cousins and fourth grade math teachers.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/10/08/oh-god-theyre-probably-making-a-farmville-movie/">Oh god, they're probably making a Farmville movie</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Sat, 08 Oct 2011 03:00:00 EST. Did you like Kevin Tancharoen's <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/mortal-kombat-legacy"><em>Mortal Kombat: Legacy</em></a> web series? New Line Cinema evidently did, as it's hired Tancharoen to direct a new film based on the bloody franchise. So, to sum up, that one self-produced <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/01/24/live-action-mortal-kombat-digital-series/">"Rebirth" short</a> got Tancharoen a job first as a web series director, and now on a feature film. The movie will reportedly feature a more "realistic" version of the Mortal Kombat characters, like the dead ninja who controls fire and the monk with the razor-sharp hat.<br />
<br />
"The new game and the online shorts have prompted us to consider a reboot of a brand we hadn't been actively thinking about," New Line president Toby Emmerich told the <a href="http://latimesblogs.latimes.com/entertainmentnewsbuzz/2011/09/mortal-kombat-movie-coming-as-warner-video-game-and-new-line-units-partner.html">LA Times</a>. So, the <a href="http://joystiq.com/game/mortal-kombat-2011">rebooted game series</a> gave him the idea to reboot the film series.<br />
<br />
The fate of this new film isn't entirely assured, however. The film rights to the series are still in question, following ongoing lawsuits between Warner and Lawrence Kasanoff, a producer on the previous <em>MK</em> movies. Not even Shao Kahn himself can defeat the lawyers of Earthrealm.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/09/29/new-mortal-kombat-movie-coming-from-mk-legacy-director/">New Mortal Kombat movie coming from MK Legacy director</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 29 Sep 2011 17:15:00 EST. Though reports from February of a planned film adaptation of Techland's then yet-to-be-released zombie title <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/dead-island"><em>Dead Island</em></a> were struck down by the studio, legitimate plans for the movie were revealed earlier today. Lionsgate announced in a press release that it's currently in the early development stage of a <em>Dead Island</em> feature, with producers Sean Daniel (<em>Tombstone</em>, <em>Dazed and Confused</em>) and Stefan Sonnenfeld attached.<br />
<br />
The press release mentions the game's first, <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/06/29/dead-island-trailer-wins-gold-award-at-cannes-advertising-fe/">Cannes-winning trailer</a> will serve as the film's "primary creative inspiration," adding that the movie will adopt the commercial's "focus on human emotion, family ties and non-linear storytelling." Also, it's a horror movie from Lionsgate, so we're betting you'll get to see the insides of hastily removed human body parts.<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/09/27/dead-island-film-optioned-by-lionsgate-based-on-the-trailer/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Dead Island film optioned by Lionsgate, based on the trailer</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/09/27/dead-island-film-optioned-by-lionsgate-based-on-the-trailer/">Dead Island film optioned by Lionsgate, based on the trailer</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 27 Sep 2011 12:30:00 EST. If you're anxiously awaiting the next Paul W.S. Anderson <em>Resident Evil joint</em>, we've got to ask: "<em>Why?</em>" We can't imagine anyone is dying to see <a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=g1tRU1fsU_Y">another one of these trainwrecks</a> (in <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/09/09/3d-effects-written-into-resident-evil-afterlife-script/">3D</a> again, no less!), but if you are, some new details on <a href="http://www.bloody-disgusting.com/news/25774">Bloody Disgusting</a> may interest you. Milla Jovovich will reprise her role as Alice in the next film, which now has an official title: <em>Resident Evil: Retribution.</em> Her husband, Paul W.S. Anderson, will once again direct.</p>
<p>
	<em>Resident Evil: Retribution</em> currently has a tentative release date of <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/03/04/fifth-resident-evil-movie-in-the-works-scheduled-for-2012/">September 14, 2012</a>. Sienna Guillory, who played Jill Valentine in the second film (and made an appearance in the last movie), will return, she has said <a href="http://twitter.com/#!/guillorybe/status/48883036741320705">on Twitter</a> -- though BD says that role is being recast. Also, according to BD, Barry Burton and Leon S. Kennedy will both make appearances in <em>Retribution</em>.<br />
	<br />
	Filming for <em>Resident Evil: Retribution</em> will begin in October.</p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/08/10/resident-evil-retribution-brings-back-alice-adds-barry-and-leo/">Resident Evil: Retribution brings back Alice, adds Barry and Leon</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 10 Aug 2011 22:00:00 EST. Not be confused with the ABC television series about a certain <em>sword of truth</em>, "Dawn of the Seeker" is the name of Funimation's upcoming <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/06/07/dragon-age-anime-due-in-2011/"><em>Dragon Age</em> anime</a>. The company also unveiled the first artwork for the film, featuring the probable protagonist and a good supply of swords. She might even have a third arm to go with that.<br />
<br />
Unfortunately, said swords are being drawn slower than expected, as the animated film has been moved from a 2011 release window to sometime in 2012. For now you can take a peek at what's already in progress via two trailers below.<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/07/27/dragon-age-anime-called-dawn-of-the-seeker-pushed-to-2012/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Dragon Age anime called 'Dawn of the Seeker,' pushed to 2012</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/07/27/dragon-age-anime-called-dawn-of-the-seeker-pushed-to-2012/">Dragon Age anime called 'Dawn of the Seeker,' pushed to 2012</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 27 Jul 2011 12:30:00 EST. Director Neil Burger just so happened to be promoting the DVD release of his movie <a href="http://www.iamrogue.com/limitless/fullsite/index.html">Limitless</a> at Comic-Con last weekend, and though most of the folks who spoke with him were from movie media, Joystiq sneaked in to grill Burger about his next project: <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/07/07/neil-burger-is-now-cooking-up-the-uncharted-movie/">the in-development <em>Uncharted </em>film</a>.<br />
<br />
"I'm rewriting the script from scratch, starting like right now -- like we are just starting now," he said. "I love the game, it's great, and I think it's a great start for a movie, because the game is so cinematic," Burger added, before zeroing in on one object of cinematic admiration. "The character Nate in particular I like because he's this ballsy guy that lives by his wits, and who's capable of kind of anything and everything. He's fearless and he doesn't give a damn and he'll go after the thing. I dig that kind of character and it's a great character for a movie."<br />
<br />
Mark Wahlberg was rumored to be playing Drake under previous director David O. Russell's oversight. Burger suggested that while both Wahlberg and Limitless star Bradley Cooper could probably both pull the role off in their own ways, the decision of who will wear the half-tuck and jeans is still distant. "Once you get to the end of the screenplay," he said, "you see who's available, who seems right, who's a new actor that's just breaking on that's not even on your radar right now."<br />
<br />
Burger agreed there are plenty of good choices to go around, however: "There's a lot of actors who even look like Nathan Drake from the video game who could do it and who would be great for it, so we'll see." Burger wasn't aware of <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nathan_Fillion">Nathan Fillion's run</a><a href="http://www.nextgn.com/2010/11/26/we-will-make-nathan-fillion-play-nathan-drake/"> at the part</a>, but we'll consider him officially back in the mix anyway.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/07/26/neil-burger-hits-restart-on-the-uncharted-film/">Neil Burger hits restart on the Uncharted film</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 26 Jul 2011 14:00:00 EST. The trailer for <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/assassins-creed-embers"><em>Assassin's Creed: Embers</em></a> above sees returning protagonist Ezio pontificating on how he's run out of time to conduct his fatherly affairs. We're not sure why he's complaining, though -- he's got until the film (and <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/assassins-creed-revelations"><em>Revelations</em></a>!) drops on November 15 to do what needs to be done.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/07/25/assassins-creed-embers-trailer-is-out-of-time/">Assassins Creed: Embers trailer is out of time</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Mon, 25 Jul 2011 14:45:00 EST. Looks like <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/05/25/report-mass-effect-movie-rights-obtained-by-legendary-pictures/">the reports were true</a>: Legendary Pictures has <a href="http://www.comingsoon.net/news/movienews.php?id=79446">announced the contents</a> of its very first San Diego Comic-Con panel, a list of films that notably includes the silver screen adaptation of BioWare's interstellar RPG, <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/mass-effect"><em>Mass Effect</em></a>. According to the event's description, the panel will feature "Game creator, Casey Hudson and screenwriter adapting the game to film, Mark Protosevich," writer of <em>I Am Legend</em> and, more recently, <em>Thor</em>.<br />
<br />
We have so many questions we'd like to see answered at this panel. For instance, will they hire an actor who resembles our very own, Elephant Man-esque version of the game's protagonist, Accident Shepard? More importantly, is the film going to be, like, really terrible? Is Shepard going to have his very own wisecrackin' Hanar sidekick? Let us know, so we can start getting in a place where that kind of disappointment won't outright kill us.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/07/07/legendary-pictures-hosting-mass-effect-movie-panel-at-comic-con/">Legendary Pictures hosting Mass Effect movie panel at Comic-Con</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 07 Jul 2011 10:10:00 EST. A handful of <a href="http://www.facebook.com/media/set/?set=a.213416545362419.53192.160930953944312">new photos</a> have been posted on the <a href="http://joystiq.com/tag/silent-hill-revelation"><em>Silent Hill: Revelation</em></a> Facebook page. The pics don't offer a great deal of new information on the film, though we do get to see a bit of Silent Hill's traditional ashen/snow-covered wastes. We also get our first peek at <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/04/06/carrie-anne-moss-malcolm-mcdowell-join-cast-of-silent-hill-rev/">Carrie-Anne Moss</a>, who's looking <a href="http://www.facebook.com/photo.php?fbid=213416598695747&amp;set=a.213416545362419.53192.160930953944312&amp;type=1&amp;theater"><em>awfully</em> pale</a>. Guys, we're just gonna be honest -- we kinda <em>really love</em> the MGM hacking classic, <em>WarGames</em>. Alongside <em>Sneakers</em>, it's right up there at the top of our list of best films about computers. And apparently it's getting a reboot from <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/seth+gordon/"><em>King of Kong</em></a> director Seth Gordon.<br />
<br />
Gordon took a break from documentaries since his 2010 adaptation of NYT bestseller <em>Freakonomics</em>, most recently directing a handful of NBC sitcoms (<em>The Office</em>, <em>Community</em>) and a feature film, <em>Horrible Bosses</em>. He's currently working on two other films, and <a href="http://www.imdb.com/name/nm1164861/">his IMDB page</a> has yet to even note the supposed reboot in his list of work.<br />
<br />
<a href="http://www.deadline.com/2011/06/king-of-kong-director-seth-gordon-ready-to-play-war-games-in-mgm-reboot/">Deadline</a> claims to have gotten exclusive news about said reboot, though unfortunately few details are provided beyond the director and production studio. Lacking details aside, we're taking a wild guess that there'll be <em>at least</em> one joke referencing thermonuclear war.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/06/24/report-king-of-kong-director-bringing-back-wargames/">Report: King of Kong director bringing back WarGames</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Fri, 24 Jun 2011 19:50:00 EST. The two-person team behind <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/indie-game-the-movie"><em>Indie Game: The Movie</em></a> just released a new trailer for the increasingly epic project, featuring developers Team Meat, Phil Fish, and Jonathan Blow as they pour their lives into their games. If you want to see how a film can draw genuinely interesting visuals out of "people talking about making games," look no further than the trailer after the break.<br />
<br />
Those visuals will also be accompanied by interesting sounds: filmmakers James Swirsky and Lisanne Pajot announced today that<em> Sword &amp; Sworcery EP</em> composer Jim Guthrie is creating the music for the film.<br />
<br />
Now, in order to <em>finish</em> that movie, the duo has initiated a <a href="http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/blinkworks/indie-game-the-movie-the-final-push">second Kickstarter campaign</a>. Basically, they need to bring more people in: "We're looking for help with the finishing costs of the feature film (audio, colour, and mastering) in order to make this movie the best possible version of itself." Available rewards for helping them reach the $35,000 goal include digital, DVD, or extended Special Edition copies of <em>Indie Game: The Movie</em>, t-shirts, and credits in the film. Go help out! We want to see this movie!<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/06/21/indie-game-the-movie-has-new-trailer-new-music-and-new-kickst/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Indie Game: The Movie has new trailer, new music, and new Kickstarter</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/06/21/indie-game-the-movie-has-new-trailer-new-music-and-new-kickst/">Indie Game: The Movie has new trailer, new music, and new Kickstarter</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 21 Jun 2011 13:00:00 EST. Indie film studio Companion Pictures recently released <a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=syPXFp_7KRY">a teaser trailer</a> for its upcoming miniseries, based on Tom Clancy's super sneaky game franchise, titled <em>Splinter Cell: Extinction</em>. In a recent interview with <a href="http://www.guardian.co.uk/lifeandstyle/2011/jun/18/bob-hoskins-interview-neverland">Guardian</a>, legendary actor Bob Hoskins went on record about the highlights of his prestigious cinematic career. In one section of the quickfire Q&amp;A, Hoskins talked about one of his greatest film achievements to date:<br />
<blockquote class="bq-standard">
	<strong>"What is the worst job you've done?</strong><br />
	Super Mario Brothers.<br />
	<br />
	<strong>What has been your biggest disappointment?</strong><br />
	Super Mario Brothers.<br />
	<br />
	<strong>If you could edit your past, what would you change?</strong><br />
	I wouldn't do Super Mario Brothers."</blockquote>
We're having trouble comprehending why Hoskins is so hostile towards Cinergi Pictures' 1993 blockbuster -- we think it set the bar for video game-to-movie adaptations. It just set that bar very, very low. Like, low enough for <em>Street Fighter</em> to hurdle over with grace and ease, which is saying something.<br />
<br />

Turning fighting games into movies is something that we actually appreciate quite a bit. These movies end up being so bad, they come all the way back around the spectrum to good. Films like <em>Street Fighter</em>, <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/06/27/doa-movie-even-deader-after-arrival/"><em>DOA: Dead or Alive</em></a> and <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/11/29/king-of-fighters-movie-trailer-giving-us-street-fighter-flashbac/"><em>The King of Fighters</em></a> will always have a special place in our hearts <em>-- </em>and now, with this latest trailer for the Blu-ray and DVD release (slated for July 19), it would seem <em>Tekken: The Movie</em> is on track to be on that list.<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/06/03/tekken-live-action-movie-trailer-is-so-bad-its-good/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Tekken live action movie trailer is so bad it's good</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/06/03/tekken-live-action-movie-trailer-is-so-bad-its-good/">Tekken live action movie trailer is so bad it's good</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Fri, 03 Jun 2011 05:00:00 EST. We knew it would only be a matter of time before one of Penny Arcade's imaginative one-offs got noticed by the cinematic powers that be. We might have placed our bets on The Lookouts or Automata -- as it so happens, though, the gaming comic's strip which <a href="http://www.hollywoodreporter.com/heat-vision/paramount-plots-next-animated-pic-194394">caught the eye</a> of Paramount Studios was "<a href="http://www.penny-arcade.com/comic/2010/10/29/">The New Kid</a>," a one-page tale about a boy who's settling into his adolescent life on an orbiting starcraft.<br />
<br />
Paramount, which was met with success with its utterly wonderful animated film <em>Rango</em>, has enlisted the help of <em>Book of Eli</em> writer Gary Whitta to adapt the strip to a full-length animated feature. We're excited to see what he comes up with -- and ever-hopeful that somebody somewhere gives some similar attention to Automata. Has <a href="http://joystiq.com/game/minecraft"><em>Minecraft</em></a> changed your life? If so, you probably work at Mojang, and are therefore already in 2 Player Productions' <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/02/21/see-20-minutes-of-the-minecraft-documentary-then-help-finance-i/">fan-supported</a> documentary, <em>Minecraft: The Story of Mojang</em>. But if you aren't a newly minted Swedish millionaire and <em>still</em> feel that the game had a huge impact on your life, 2PP would like to hear your story.<br />
<br />
The company put out an open call for fan stories today, for possible inclusion in the film. " They may take it to unexpected places and push the limits of its design; or they may find the game itself changing their lives in unexpected ways." If you believe you have the perfect <em>Minecraft</em> story, and you can tell it in 350 words or fewer, send your tale of awesome times to minecraft@2playerproductions.com.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/05/30/2-player-productions-looking-to-build-player-stories-into-minecr/">2 Player Productions looking to build player stories into Minecraft film</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Mon, 30 May 2011 18:16:00 EST. Capcom has officially announced that <em>Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney</em> will head to the cineplexes of Japan in Spring 2012. Wright will be played by <a href="http://www.imdb.com/name/nm1224532/">Hiroki Narimiya</a> (not ringing any bells?), while antagonistic attorney Miles Edgeworth will be played by <a href="http://www.imdb.com/name/nm1102191/">Takumi Saito</a>. Phoenix's charmingly naive assistant, Maya Fey, will be channeled by <a href="http://www.imdb.com/name/nm2962268/">Mirei Kiritani</a>.<br />
<br />
Of course, you'll probably recognize the director (as <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/05/23/audition-director-takashi-miike-making-ace-attorney-movie/">reported earlier</a>): Takashi Miike of <em>Audition</em>, <em>Crows Zero</em><b> </b>and -- most recently -- <em>Thirteen Assassins.</em><br />
<br />
If you find the idea of a live-action, comedic courtroom adventure odd, you must not have been around for the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/08/31/phoenix-wright-musical-now-with-english-subtitles/"><em>Phoenix Wright</em> musical</a> a couple years back.<br />
<br />

Three photographs have surfaced of what appear to be a set from Takashi Miike's <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/05/23/audition-director-takashi-miike-making-ace-attorney-movie/"><em>Ace Attorney </em>film</a>. According to <a href="http://blog.esuteru.com/archives/3190078.html">Hachimaki</a>, the sets are in Kyoto, where Miike was already reported to be shooting a movie.<br />
<br />
If the sets are real, they point to an adaptation of the first <em>Phoenix Wright</em> game, as they are a perfect representation of the Gourd Lake location where that game's fourth case, "Turnabout Goodbyes," takes place -- which means we'll get to see a live-action representation of paranormal photographer Lotta Hart. That's exciting, right? Speaking to reporters during the Cannes film festival, director <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Takashi_Miike">Takashi Miike</a> (<em>Audition</em>, <em>Hara-Kiri: Death of a Samurai,</em> and a million other things) announced his next film: "It is a very light comedy that I am filming now," as the <a href="http://www.huffingtonpost.com/karin-badt/cannes-2011-takashi-miike_b_865188.html">Huffington Post</a> quotes him, "a court drama, based on a video game, the Nintendo game DS." Warning: that Huffington Post interview is pretty much entirely about ritual suicide except for that brief quote.<br />
<br />
HOLD IT! If we're reading this correctly, that means a high-profile, acclaimed film director is adapting the <em>Ace Attorney</em> series from the dual screens to the big screen. This is the best news ever for fans of overblown, overdressed arguments.<br />
<br />
This isn't Miike's first game adaptation about people in brightly colored suits. In 2007, Miike directed a <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Like_a_Dragon">live-action film</a> based on <em>Yakuza</em>.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/05/23/audition-director-takashi-miike-making-ace-attorney-movie/">Audition director Takashi Miike making Ace Attorney movie</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Mon, 23 May 2011 20:10:00 EST. Perhaps all that "playing" of your favorite Ubisoft games was getting tiresome? The French game publisher's film arm, <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/ubisoft-motion-pictures">Ubisoft Motion Pictures</a>, told <a href="http://www.variety.com/article/VR1118037076">Variety</a> this week that it's working to adapt three of Ubisoft's biggest properties -- <em>Assassin's Creed</em>, <em>Splinter Cell</em> and <em>Ghost Recon</em> -- into "3D features," confirming <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/03/16/ubisoft-survey-gauges-interest-in-assassins-creed-ghost-recon/">speculative plans</a> that appeared in a consumer survey last month. UMP head Jean-Julien Baronnet explained that his division "has been working with the games' producers and Ubisoft's marketing team to identify the DNA of each game and come up with storylines that are consistent." He also noted that the group's plans have garnered plenty of interest "from US studios and screenwriters."<br />
<br />
Further, senior VP of international marketing and distribution Jean de Rivieres promises a script for at least one of the projects "by the end of the year." He and two other UMP execs will be taking a trip to Los Angeles next month in order to broker deals with studios and agents, Rivieres added.<br />
<br />
In addition to the trio of feature projects, the studio is reportedly developing a 3D, CGI animated series based on the <em>Rabbids</em> property and named after the <em>Raving Rabbids</em> game series. It's said to comprise 78 episodes, at seven minutes apiece, and negotiations are apparently underway to distribute the series in France and the US.<br />

What's more fun than playing <em>Tetris?</em> Watching other people play <em>Tetris</em> of course!<br />
<br />
While that statement doesn't necessary hold true <em>as a rule</em>, it does when you're watching <em>Tetris</em> world champs. Cut from the same cloth as crossword and Scrabble documentaries <em>Wordplay</em> and <em>Word Wars</em>, the unfortunately named <em>Ecstasy of Order: The Tetris Masters</em> follows a handful of world-class <em>Tetris</em> players as they prepare for, and participate in, the Classic Tetris World Championship.<br />
<br />
The full movie won't be available until 2012 but, until then, you can watch the trailer we've embedded after the break. Oh, also embedded below: a poll, so you can register your opinion on that title. <p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/05/12/tetris-documentary-is-titled-ecstasy-of-order-the-tetris-maste/#poll63639">View Poll</a></p><p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/05/12/tetris-documentary-is-titled-ecstasy-of-order-the-tetris-maste/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Tetris documentary is titled 'Ecstasy of Order: The Tetris Masters' and here's the trailer to prove it</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/05/12/tetris-documentary-is-titled-ecstasy-of-order-the-tetris-maste/">Tetris documentary is titled 'Ecstasy of Order: The Tetris Masters' and here's the trailer to prove it</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 12 May 2011 01:00:00 EST. You'll be able to see the next <em>Tekken</em> release in 3D, making the act of a mohawked robot punching a bear more immersive than ever. You just won't be able to play it. <a href="http://www.famitsu.com/news/201105/11043464.html">Announced</a> at a Namco Bandai event in Dubai, <em>Tekken: Blood Vengeance</em> is a new CG movie scripted by <em>Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex</em> and <em>Cowboy Bebop</em> writer <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dai_Sat%C5%8D">Dai Sato</a>, with animation by <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/resident-evil-degeneration">Resident Evil: Degeneration's</a></em> <a href="http://www.andriasang.com/e/blog/2011/05/11/tekken_blood_vengeance_trailer/">Digital Frontier</a>.<br />
<br />
You can see the first trailer (and its brief scene of panda riding) after the break. It'll be out in Japanese theaters this summer.<br />
<br />
In other <em>Tekken</em> movie news, Anchor Bay Films announced a North American release for last year's live-action <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/tekken,movie"><em>Tekken</em> film</a>, which will hit Blu-ray and DVD on July 19.<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/05/11/tekken-blood-vengeance-movie-rides-a-panda-in-3d-this-summer/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Tekken: Blood Vengeance movie rides a panda in 3D this summer</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/05/11/tekken-blood-vengeance-movie-rides-a-panda-in-3d-this-summer/">Tekken: Blood Vengeance movie rides a panda in 3D this summer</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 11 May 2011 10:00:00 EST. So, the very first trailer for SyFy's upcoming original film, <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/red-faction-origins"><em>Red Faction: Origins</em></a> is posted right after the jump. It seems like it might present a fairly true-to-its-source story to bridge the canonical gap between <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/red-faction-guerilla">Red Faction: Guerrilla</a> </em>and <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/red-faction-armageddon"><em>Red Faction: Armageddon</em></a> -- of course, we knew that before watching the following video.<br />
<br />
What we didn't know was that the trailer would surpass the quality bar we set for the film in our mind's eye when the Volition/Syfy collaboration was first announced. However, seeing as how this is a SyFy Original movie <em>which is also</em> a video game adaptation, our expectations were that upon watching the film, our eyeballs would be <em>instantly incinerated.</em> We might -- <em>might</em> -- just be safe from that fate.<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/05/02/red-faction-origins-trailer-defies-our-expectations/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Red Faction: Origins trailer defies our expectations</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/05/02/red-faction-origins-trailer-defies-our-expectations/">Red Faction: Origins trailer defies our expectations</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Mon, 02 May 2011 20:30:00 EST. Ubisoft's got its finger in a number of cinematic pies, including the founding of its own CGI studio and the acquisition of special effects company <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/07/08/ubisoft-buys-300-sin-city-effects-studio/">Hybride</a> -- now, the publisher can add its very own film studio to its ... pie safe, we guess. <a href="http://www.variety.com/article/VR1118036232?categoryid=4076&amp;cs=1&amp;cmpid=RSS|News|FilmNews">Variety</a> reports the company opened up a division named Ubisoft Motion Pictures in Paris, which will be headed by former EuropaCorp CEO Jean-Julien Baronnet, and will focus on adapting Ubisoft's franchises into films and TV shows.<br />
<br />
You guys realize what this means, right? We mean, it's pretty obvious. Given the success of last year's <em>Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time</em> movie, they're going to follow it up with a television miniseries based on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/04/28/rumor-smurfs-dance-party-pics-leak/"><em>Smurfs Dance Party</em></a>. The SyFy press site recently added a handful of production stills for its upcoming original film adaptation of the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/red-faction,syfy"><em>Red Faction</em></a> franchise, posted in the gallery below. Did you know that, in addition to being composed of red rocks, Mars is also made out of <em>frowns</em>?<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/04/25/red-faction-production-stills-look-very-very-surly/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Red Faction production stills look very, very surly</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/04/25/red-faction-production-stills-look-very-very-surly/">Red Faction production stills look very, very surly</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Mon, 25 Apr 2011 14:00:00 EST. NBC Universal held a "Summer press day" last Friday in Pasadena, California, and among the various panels was one for the SyFy Channel's new <em>Red Faction: Origins</em> movie. In cooperation with THQ, SyFy is bringing out a two-hour movie on June 4 that covers the story of Jake Mason, son of <a href="http://joystiq.com/game/red-faction-guerilla"><em>Red Faction: Guerilla</em></a>'s Alec Mason and father of <em><a href="http://joystiq.com/game/red-faction-armageddon">Red Faction: Armageddon</a></em> main character Darius Mason. Alec (played by Robert Patrick) makes an appearance, though Brian J. Smith, who plays Jake, says "he's fallen off a little bit as a hero." <br />
<br />
Given how closely related to the games the movie will be, you'd think director Michael Nankin (second from right, above) would want to get in and play <em>Guerilla</em> at least. But the director of a few Battlestar Galatica episodes has no interest in technology. "I have a book that's a calendar," he says, "and I take notes on index cards."<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/04/16/syfy-prepares-red-faction-origins-movie-for-june-4-release/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>SyFy prepares Red Faction: Origins movie for June 4 release</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/04/16/syfy-prepares-red-faction-origins-movie-for-june-4-release/">SyFy prepares Red Faction: Origins movie for June 4 release</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Sat, 16 Apr 2011 18:00:00 EST. <a href="http://www.comingsoon.net/news/movienews.php?id=76033">ComingSoon.net reports</a> that the new Michael J. Bassett-directed <a href="http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0938330/"><em>Silent Hill: Revelation 3D</em> movie</a> is adding two big stars to its cast. Carrie-Anne Moss (of <em>Memento</em>, though probably better known as Trinity from <em>The Matrix</em>) and <em>A Clockwork Orange</em>'s Malcolm McDowell will join series veterans Sean Bean, Radha Mitchell and Deborah Kara Unger in the latest journey to the freaky climes of Silent Hill.<br />
<br />
Moss will play <a href="http://silenthill.wikia.com/wiki/Claudia_Wolf">Claudia Wolf</a> from <em>Silent Hill 3</em>, a mysterious woman who may or may not be evil, and McDowell will play <a href="http://silenthill.wikia.com/wiki/Leonard_Wolf">Leonard Wolf</a>, a mysterious (likely English) man who, you guessed it, may or may not be evil. So not really a stretch for these two -- we look forward to seeing the finished product (in 3D!) next year.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/04/06/carrie-anne-moss-malcolm-mcdowell-join-cast-of-silent-hill-rev/">Carrie-Anne Moss, Malcolm McDowell join cast of Silent Hill: Revelation</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 06 Apr 2011 22:30:00 EST. After watching The Rock, who is also named Dwayne Johnson, fulfill his hosting duties during last night's Wrestlemania event by totally slamming dudes in the face, we were all probably possessed by the same thought: When's <em>Doom 2</em> coming out?<br />
<br />
Speaking to <a href="http://multiplayerblog.mtv.com/2011/04/04/the-rock-wants-in-on-a-call-of-duty-black-ops-movie/">MTV</a>, Mr. Rock explained he's not averse to doing another game-based movie "if the right one came along." "I thought we had an opportunity with <em>Doom</em>," he added. "Didn't work out the way we wanted it to, creatively." Let's look on the bright side: <em>Spy Hunter</em> didn't work out the way you wanted it to <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/12/21/actor-strike-threatens-castlevania-movie-anderson-drops-spy-hun/"><em>completely and entirely</em></a>.<br />
<br />
When asked what game he'd like to film-ify, in a perfect world, Mr. Rock replied, "<a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/call-of-duty-black-ops"><em>Black Ops</em></a> -- that'd be bad ass. Let's make it happen. Let's do it." He added, "That and <em>Black Swan 2</em>." Wait, wait -- what if we combined the two? Oh, man. Do you smell what The Rock is cooking? <em>Cinematic gold</em>.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/04/04/the-rock-talks-doom-again-would-do-another-game-movie-like-bla/">The Rock talks Doom again, would do another game movie (like Black Ops)</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Mon, 04 Apr 2011 20:10:00 EST. Bossa Studios lead designer Mike Bithell, whom you may remember as the creator of the 24-hour project <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/10/18/thomas-was-alone-a-minimalist-game-about-friendship/">Thomas Was Alone</a></em>, knows a thing or two about coming up with compelling game concepts. We're not surprised that he recently turned his sights on gameifying one of our favorite movies of 2011 so far: <em>Source Code</em>. On <a href="http://thomaswasalone.wordpress.com/2011/04/02/source-code-a-game-design/">his personal blog</a>, Bithell explained how the film's penchant for <em>Groundhog Day</em>-esque repetition would translate over to a game mechanic, even drawing a handy diagram to illustrate his ideas.<br />
<br />
Personally, we'd love for his vision to come to fruition, if only to achieve our dream of getting our Gyllenhaal fix in a video game format. We can't just keep playing <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/prince-of-persia-the-sands-of-time"><em>Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time</em></a> and pretending, you know. It's not <em>healthy</em>.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/04/04/mike-bithell-conceptualizes-a-game-based-on-source-code/">Mike Bithell conceptualizes a game based on Source Code</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Mon, 04 Apr 2011 15:30:00 EST. It might seem strange to pair <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/silent-hill-downpour"><em>Silent Hill</em></a> and <a href="http://joystiq.com/game/dragon-age"><em>Dragon Age</em></a> fan film trailers in one post, but they just happen to share the same director, Leo Kei Angelos. Both projects are planned for release as complete short films later this year, and they already look impressive.<br />
<br />
In fact, if the super, <em>super</em> creepy trailer is any indication, the <em>Silent Hill</em> inspired film, <em>The Confined</em>, just might turn out better than its <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2006/04/21/joystiq-review-silent-hill-the-movie/">full-length cinematic counterpart</a>. Who knew that behind the scenes of the planet's favorite avian-launching casual game hides a twisted narrative of political intrigue and wartime subterfuge? It took the keen minds of <a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2matH4B9bTo">Rooster Teeth</a> to discover this plot and commit it to video, which they've done in the trailer posted below.<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/03/26/rooster-teeth-lets-slip-the-hogs-of-war-with-angry-birds-the-mo/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Rooster Teeth lets slip the hogs of war with Angry Birds: The Movie</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/03/26/rooster-teeth-lets-slip-the-hogs-of-war-with-angry-birds-the-mo/">Rooster Teeth lets slip the hogs of war with Angry Birds: The Movie</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Sat, 26 Mar 2011 13:00:00 EST. Back in 2009, D.J. Caruso <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/07/27/dead-space-being-directed-with-an-eagle-eye-by-d-j-caruso/">signed on</a> to direct <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/dead-space"><em>Dead Space</em></a>. Since then, we haven't heard much about the project -- a piece here; a small morsel there. An interview with <a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RTRyw2OM0-U&amp;hd=1&amp;t=1m26s">AreaGames</a> during a German press tour for <a href="http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1464540/">I Am Number Four</a>, Caruso's latest film, brings news that a big-screen adaptation of <em>Dead Space</em> is still very alive.<br />
<br />
"We're working on the story," Caruso said in the video interview, which you can see for yourself just past the break. "We had one attempt of trying to do a prequel, but the story didn't quite work out as well as we wanted it to. But if we can capture how -- I don't want to say, I guess, how scary or horrifying it would be to play that game because it's really, really fantastic. It'd be fun to make that into a movie." And we wouldn't mind seeing it, granted none of those crazy-scary Necromorph children from <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/dead-space-2"><em>Dead Space 2</em></a> make their way into the film.<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/03/21/dead-space-movie-still-in-production-caruso-toyed-around-with/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Dead Space movie still in production, Caruso toyed around with 'a prequel'</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/03/21/dead-space-movie-still-in-production-caruso-toyed-around-with/">Dead Space movie still in production, Caruso toyed around with 'a prequel'</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Mon, 21 Mar 2011 19:31:00 EST. A survey floating around seems to suggest Ubisoft is entertaining the idea of bringing some of its franchises over to the big screen -- specifically, <em>Assassin's Creed</em> and <em>Ghost Recon</em>. The above image was submitted to <a href="http://www.evilavatar.com/forums/showthread.php?t=138780">Evil Avatar</a>, which says the survey is geared the toward finding out what would most make those taking it want to see movies based on the franchises -- Ezio, Subject 16 and the like.<br />
<br />
While we feel the world would probably be just fine without another war flick, we'd be all for an <em>Assassin's Creed</em> movie, granted that the project wasn't entirely about <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/06/22/prince-of-persia-becomes-highest-grossing-video-game-based-movie/">making money</a> but also <em>making a good movie</em>. We're probably being a bit naive, though.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/03/16/ubisoft-survey-gauges-interest-in-assassins-creed-ghost-recon/">Ubisoft survey gauges interest in Assassin's Creed, Ghost Recon films</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 16 Mar 2011 21:30:00 EST.
