Namco has told IGN that a patch for Mr. Driller Online (which should currently just be called Mr. Driller) is coming by the end of this month. When the game released in early April the online feature was fundamentally broken, as is evidenced by the video from X3F we've placed after the break.

As for the game's less-than-HD quality presentation? Don't expect a patch for that. The fix is pretty much designed to allow the game to keep the Online portion of its name without becoming a case of consumer fraud.

[Via X3F]
The non-HD, up-scaled sprites and the online lag were by far the biggest complaints, and while the former is a lost cause, the latter should hopefully be fixed before month's end. This week we take a look at Mr Driller Online. In something of a departure for XBLA in Brief, we actually picked up the full version of the title (what can we say? we like the little guy) and gave it a spin. Unfortunately, before we could even be bothered to knock out this video, we had to make another one detailing Mister Driller Online's horribly broken multiplayer, which is ironic given the game's title. Still, the single player is fun and worth a look for casual gamers and puzzle addicts. Check out the video above and let us know what you think. We've received some tips indicating that Mr. Driller Online for XBLA is having a problem with the, er, "Online" portion of the gameplay. It seems that while the person hosting an online game is just fine, the connecting player can't drill anything. X3F put together a video of the bug, which we've placed after the break.

Another test of Mr. Driller's online capabilities was done today with the same broken result. No word on whether a patch is in the works. Best to save your 800 MS points for the moment, as there's no sense in supporting broken titles.
We decided to take the plunge and put down our 800 Microsoft Points. At first, everything seemed fine. We plowed our way through a few single player levels and Mr. Driller is as fun as it's ever been. However, once we started up multiplayer things went terribly wrong. In short, the game is unplayable over Xbox Live, which is particularly ironic given the title of the game. We're not sure why XBLA games in particular seem to be the worst offenders when it comes to online lag, but Mr. Driller Online lags so much that it actually moves backwards. And, as the name suggests, it's Xbox Live enabled and ready for multiplayer action. So far, after giving the trial game a whirl, the only thing we can't figure out is whether the game's constant drilling sound is giving us head pains or if the game's bright, cheerful and Easter egg inspired artwork is the cause. Yeah ... it's probably the art. Give Mr. Driller Online a trial today to see if deserves your 800 Microsoft points purchase, acceptance and love.

Mr. Driller Online digs into the XBLA originally appeared on Joystiq on Wed, 02 Apr 2008 10:30:00 EST. This time the game is Mr Driller Online, and from the looks of it the release date is much closer this time as well. The Japanese page details the games four modes,

Multiplayer, Battle, 2-4 Players

Multiplayer, Tag Battle, 3-4 Players

Single Player, Standard Driller

Single Player, Quest Driller, 100 puzzles

as well as having a host of game screenshots. Now as long as someone from Microsoft doesn't take this info down for being posted early (like what happened with Ikaruga) and we'll be golden. If the data is accurate (and hey, it is on an official site) then we can expect to be getting into some online puzzler action by this time next week. Oh and the price appears to be 800pts.

Via NeoGAF
Mr Driller Online to be next week's XBLA release? originally appeared on Joystiq on Fri, 28 Mar 2008 12:30:00 EST. It's been four long years since Namco Bandai last graced us with its diminutive pink spelunker Mr. Driller in Mr. Driller Drill Spirits for the Nintendo DS. Thankfully, it's an oversight the company will soon remedy with the newly revealed Mr. Driller Online, a downloadable version of the casual puzzler currently in development for Xbox Live Arcade.

Details are currently light, though the game, which so far has only been confirmed for release in Japan this Spring, looks to stay true to the series' uber-cute roots of downward drilling and colors vibrant enough to make a box of Crayolas blush. The game will also include a handful of new modes and gameplay over Xbox Live, making the one thing that has been missing from the saccharine puzzler -- online trash talk -- a reality. Finally!

[Via Xbox 360 Fanboy]
Namco Bandai bringing Mr. Driller to Xbox Live Arcade originally appeared on Joystiq on Sun, 16 Mar 2008 11:30:00 EST.
