Dead Island is famous for having arguably the most dramatic, memorable advertisement of 2011, with its backward, slow-mo gore fest featuring an undead child. With Dead Island: Riptide, the marketing team is taking a decidedly different approach: They've decided on "No Room in Hell," a rap music video from in-game character Sam B, featuring real-life artist Chamillionaire.

In the Dead Island universe, Sam B is a one-hit wonder for his song "Who Do You Voodoo, Bitch?" and "No Room in Hell" is the last single he recorded before traveling to the Royal Palms Resort Hotel on Banoi. Considering what went down on the island when he got there, his fake record label fears this might very well be his last single, ever.

Need further proof, for some inexplicable reason? The beverage-named gentleman, alongside his temporarily reunited musical outfit Body Count, will debut his newest music video on tonight's episode of X-Play: "Horde 2.0: Five Against All," a song inspired by Gears of War 3, which also features Ice-T's voice acting talents.

We'll try to grab the video once it airs tonight on G4TV at 6:30 p.m. ET. Until then, we'll work tirelessly to corroborate these rumors that Ice-T did some of the programming on the fifth level of Gears 3, and also wrote a good hundred or so pages of the game's script.

"Edifice," based in some of the destroyed Aperture chambers, picked up an honorable mention. All of the maps are free to download; just get the file, put it in your maps folder by following the instructions on the official blog and use the dev console to load it up and play.

Congrats to the winners. Valve's also hosting a Portal 2 music video contest for the song by The National included in the game. The deadline on that one is coming up in the middle of July, so you've still got time to film and upload it to YouTube. Good luck!

The video features Alan Wake as portrayed by actor Ilkka Villi, who's basically the Milli Vanilli companion to voice actor Matthew Porretta.

Set to Robin Thicke's "Sex Therapy," the music video made its premiere on X-Play tonight. We've learned two things from watching this clip: 1) Kratos' character design looks ridiculous outside of the game's context and 2) Kratos should never, ever show his "softer" side.

Too bad this video isn't going to be used by Sony for promotional purposes. As revealed by this behind-the-scenes video, it's a rather elaborate experiment conducted by G4. It is quite possibly the greatest thing the network has ever done, and deserves a look after the break.

  • Thursday 3rd December: Sweden, Denmark, Norway, Finland
  • Thursday 10th December: Belgium, Luxembourg, Switzerland, New Zealand
According to PlayStation.Blog, new users will have to wait upwards of 15 minutes when initially launching the service. Why? Apparently, there's so just that much content to load when the application is launched for the first time. Each subsequent visit will only take seconds -- good, because we're confident you'll be coming back for more.

Europe's exclusive music video service just surpassed one million downloads. VidZone is SCEE's music video service that streams music videos -- new and old -- for free on PS3 and PSP. In addition to an archive of classics, VidZone most recently debuted U2's latest single, "I'll Go Crazy If I Don't Go Crazy Tonight," exclusively through the service.

It's no wonder that VidZone has been popular amongst European PS3 owners considering its low cost of entry (free). The European PlayStation.Blog announced earlier today that "VidZone has had over 1 million downloads and 100 million video streams on PS3."

We're certainly jealous of our friends across the Atlantic that can access the service. However, in spite of its success, it doesn't look like there are any plans (yet) to bring this service to the US. To see the top 10 videos on VidZone, click past the break.

We're all still reeling from the passing of the King of Pop, but fortunately, Microsoft's got a nice (albeit brief) memorial for Michael Jackson up on Xbox Live. This weekend only, the Video Marketplace is giving away the full, ten-minute version of MJ's classic "Thriller" music video for your viewing pleasure. Yep, the greatest music video of all time is free to download until the end of the day today.

It's a nice gesture -- but why not just make the video permanently free? We're not sure these wounds will heal in such a short period of time.

The Wonder Girls are rather popular in Korea, and it looks like Sony is leveraging their celebrity to promote the PS3. The music video for "Now" has the girls seductively turning on the PS3 and wildly moving their bodies to control Gran Turismo 5 Prologue. (Maybe they're using SIXAXIS controls?) The music is a little unbearable, and the video is almost absurd, but it's fun to see PS3 break into other forms of media.

You should probably avoid the music video we've embedded after the break. "Happy Up Here," the latest single from Norwegian electronic (and possibly electronic Norwegian) group Röyksopp, concocts an inoffensive, lighthearted and worst of all, catchy, sequence of bleeps and bloops. It's exactly the sort of thing that wafts out of someone's cubicle and ends up infecting every brain in the office, generating impromptu humming and arming those whistling, morning people with yet another way to annoy the rest of us.

But it also features cute invaders ... from space! We think that's from a video game.

Japanese rock band Beat Crusaders' latest music video, "Phantom Planet," takes place in a world we're quite familiar with: the LittleBigPlanet. This adorable music video features the band members' faces stickered atop Sackboys, running around various levels from LBP. Kotaku smartly points out that the band is signed on to DefSTAR Records, a division of Sony Music Japan, which may explain the blatantly promotional aspect of the music video.

We don't claim to know much about music here at Joystiq (our long-time favorite band is Cap'n Geech and the Shrimp Shack Shooters) but we do know what warms us to our very cockles. That's exactly the effect achieved by DJ I-Dee's new video, "Swollen Dome/1991," which features more references to classic gaming than we can count.

Be forewarned though, like all of our very favorite Christmas songs, it contains profanity. Check it out after the break.

Ryan Schneider from Insomniac joins us to give a few behind-the-scenes commentary for the video. What was the inspiration for creating a recruitment music video?
Well, when you go to things like GDC, everybody has their typical video. In general, everyone has their recruitment video - it's very "been there, done that." We just wanted to do something different. We wanted to create a video that captures who we really are and this video does. It shows that we take our games very seriously but not ourselves.

When he's not bringing Shatner back, MySpace user, James at War turns Akon's apologetic anthem, Sorry Blame Me, into a Halo 3 tribute.

And while it's an attempt to appease the videogame widows as much a song about the game, notice how the lyrics never take responsibility; you can sense the singer slinking back to the game during the slow fade-out. Yes, that sounds like a typical gamer to us.
