The original soundtrack for <em>Mega Man 5</em> is now available for $8.95 on Capcom's <a href="http://shop.capcom.com/store/capcomus/en_US/pd/ThemeID.1944700/productID.281373700/Mega-Man-5-Official-Soundtrack.html?resid=UV9foAoBAlgAAANGKc8AAAA8&amp;rests=1368913879766">official shop</a>; it's almost as if they planned its release to coincide with the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2013/05/16/new-nintendo-eshop-releases-super-metroid-super-ghouls-n-ghos/">debut</a> of <em>Mega Man 5</em> on the 3DS Virtual Console. What a weird coincidence!<br />
<br />
At 57 hot jams long, <em>Mega Man 5</em>'s soundtrack was composed by Mari Yamaguchi, who was often credited mononymously (as "Mari") for her work at Capcom. She also composed the music for <em>Super Ghouls 'n Ghosts</em> and several of the songs on the <em>Breath of Fire</em> soundtrack, in addition to handling arrangement duties for the TurboGrafx-16 version of <em>Street Fighter 2: Champion Edition</em>. Yamaguchi returned to the Mega Man franchise in 2010, penning the stage theme for <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/mega-man-10"><em>Mega Man 10</em></a>'s Sheep Man.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2013/05/18/mega-man-5-ost-busts-into-the-capcom-store/">Mega Man 5 OST busts into the Capcom Store</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Sat, 18 May 2013 22:30:00 EST. Just in case the thing that prevented you from buying <a href="http://joystiq.com/game/rocksmith"><em>Rocksmith</em></a> on Steam was the lack of Maroon 5 songs, we'll just remove that musical obstacle for you right here and now. <a href="http://store.steampowered.com/news/10609/">Valve reports</a> that "Misery," "She Will Be Loved," and "Harder to Breathe" have all been added to the game.<br />
<br />
You can buy each song for $2.99, or pick them all up together for $7.99. Once purchased, you can play through the songs with a standard electric or bass guitar, and each song also adds a new authentic tone to play with on the game's Amp mode. Sweet Maroon 5-style haircuts are, unfortunately, sold separately.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2013/05/14/finally-those-maroon-5-songs-you-wanted-are-available-in-rocksm/">Finally, those Maroon 5 songs you wanted are available in Rocksmith</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 14 May 2013 23:15:00 EST. <em>FZ: Side Z</em> is he second half of the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/fez"><em>Fez</em></a> remix album and it's out today, assaulting your eardrums for $5 or more. The first half, <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2013/04/15/fez-remix-soundtrack-out-april-20-will-keep-you-up-at-night/"><em>FZ: Side F</em></a>, launched on April 20 for the same semi-name-your-own price. Both albums feature tracks from various artists, including the original <em>Fez</em> soundtrack composer, Disasterpeace.<br />

The Behemoth has thrown some of<em> Battleblock Theater</em>'s best audio material into a downloadable ringtone pack, available in .mp3 and .mp4 varieties.<br /><br />The ringtone pack includes tracks such as "Secret Song," "Relationship Song" and "Buckle ur Pants," and it includes the gem sound, the narrator's "Whoooooo" and "Mmmm<em>hmmm</em>" noises, and classic lines such as "Good job, baby farts" and "Everything's coming together like buttcheeks."<br /><br />The Behemoth is working on an official soundtrack for the game, currently listed as "coming soon." For now, download the <em>Battleblock Theater </em>ringtone pack and annoy all of your friends for free <a href="http://battleblocktheater.com/media/music/">right here</a>.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2013/04/24/battleblock-theater-ringtones-tell-the-fart-jokes-for-you/">Battleblock Theater ringtones tell the fart jokes for you</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 24 Apr 2013 14:15:00 EST. After being diagnosed with pancreatic cancer in August 2012, Corbeil passed away on January 25.<br /><br />One of the key components of<em> Heavy Rain</em>, a game Joystiq doled out <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/02/10/review-heavy-rain/">five stars</a> to, was its powerful, often deeply melancholic music. As our reviewer put it, Corbeil's "superb" accompanying score drew you into the experience because it fit the situation so well.<br /><br />Our thoughts go out to his family, friends and colleagues. Gaming has lost a great composer, but Corbeil's work lives on, and we hope you take the time today to <a href="https://itunes.apple.com/us/album/heavy-rain-original-soundtrack/id356650633">enjoy it</a>.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2013/01/28/heavy-rain-composer-normand-corbeil-passes-away-aged-56/">Heavy Rain composer Normand Corbeil passes away, aged 56</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Mon, 28 Jan 2013 15:00:00 EST. It's also quirky, fun and from a duo named Ridiculon, one half of which, Matthias Bossi, was a member of experimental rock band <a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ELyco68w5ks">Sleepytime Gorilla Museum</a>. Bossi and John Evans slapped together a video about recording music for<em> Mew-Genics</em>, sharing a few details about the game in-between banging on hard surfaces and screaming about cat fights.<br /><br /><em>Mew-Genics</em> will feature a lab, a scientist, races in the sewers, kitty pageants and cat rumbles, Bossi and Evans say, and it will launch "super quick." The soundtrack includes 10 instrumentals and 10 full songs with lyrics, including one with the catchy chorus, "Cat fight, cat fight / Cat fight, cat fight / Got cat? Let's fight!" Watch the video above to get that one stuck in your head for the rest of the day.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2013/01/20/the-sounds-of-mew-genics-include-guitar-drums-glock-cat-fight/">The sounds of Mew-Genics include guitar, drums, glock, cat fights</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Sun, 20 Jan 2013 16:30:00 EST. Dig just a tiny bit deeper, however, and you'll discover that this game has a somewhat unique set of rules. For starters, one of the players must <em>always</em> be a man named Joost van Dongen, and his controller absolutely has to be a cello. For realsies.<br /><br />Basically, van Dongen controls the half of the game that would normally be the purview of the computer in a standard twin-stick shooter, spawning cannons and mines and such to thwart the other four players and their respective tanks. To do so, van Dongen must play his cello in varying ways, improvising melodies that will lead to both effective in-game strategies <em>and</em> a listenable performance.<br /><br />Don't expect <em>Cello Fortress</em> to show up on Steam Greenlight anytime soon, though. The game is as much of a piece of performance art as it is a collection of code, and as such can only be experienced during live events scheduled by van Dongen. That schedule can be found on the game's <a href="http://cellofortress.com/">official website</a>, and here's hoping for some tour dates outside of The Netherlands.<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2013/01/17/cello-fortress-is-half-video-game-half-live-musical-performance/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Cello Fortress is half video game, half live musical performance</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2013/01/17/cello-fortress-is-half-video-game-half-live-musical-performance/">Cello Fortress is half video game, half live musical performance</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 17 Jan 2013 02:00:00 EST. Total entertainment sales, including music and movie sales, are down by about 12 percent. The culprit seems to be physical sales, with video game shares of that category dropping from 73 percent to 65.4 percent, and physical sales overall dropping by about 5 percent.<br /><br />ERA Director General Kim Bayley actually cited the drops as a success for physical media, in that "despite digital's seemingly inexorable growth, the CD, the DVD and the physical games disc show incredible resilience." Bayley added that despite the shrinking numbers, "physical formats still account for three quarters of the entertainment market."<br /><br />On the digital side, sales crossed a record of &pound;1 billion for the first time ever. Digital video game sales rose by 7.7 percent, just slightly less than the overall growth trend in digital. For now, however, digital growth isn't enough to keep the industry at large growing. The ERA says the lack of growth was largely due to a "dearth of attractive releases" last summer, and the organization hopes to "offer the public a much better release slate in 2013."<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2013/01/02/uk-game-sales-down-17-in-2012-digital-crosses-1-billion-for-f/">UK game sales down 17% in 2012, digital crosses £1 billion for first time</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 02 Jan 2013 20:30:00 EST. As the composer for <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/journey"><em>Journey</em></a>, Wintory had an inkling that he might be nominated in Best Score Soundtrack for Visual Media, and he was distracted all day, constantly refreshing the Grammy page, scanning for his name. By evening the list still wasn't posted and he gave up on trying to focus. He got in his car, determined to go home, make dinner and then check the page again.<br /><br />"The instant I got in my car, my email started blinking. Of all people, it was from my friend Christopher Tin, emailing me to say 'CONGRATULATIONS' - in all caps."<br /><br />Tin won the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/02/14/civilization-4-grammy-baba-yetu/">first Grammy</a> for a piece of video game music, <em>Civilization 4</em>'s "Baba Yetu," in 2011. He and Wintory had been friends for years. When Wintory saw that email, he quickly called Tin and the subsequent conversation went something like this:<br /><br />"What are you - are you on the website?" Wintory asked Tin. "What's going on?"<br /><br />"Yeah, I'm looking right at it! There you are!" Tin replied. And then, after a second, the situation dawned on him. "Wait a minute - you didn't know this already?"<br /><br />"No! I'm in my car right now."<br /><br />"Oh, this is perfect."<br /><br />Just then Wintory's phone began buzzing, beeping and possibly sobbing under the barrage of emails, texts and calls from friends and well-wishers. Two weeks later, Wintory agrees with Tin's assessment of events.<br /><br />"As fate had it, I heard from Chris himself," he says. "I had no foresight, I had absolutely no plan, and yet in hindsight, I wouldn't have it any other way."<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/12/27/austin-wintorys-journey-to-the-2013-grammys/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Austin Wintory's journey to the 2013 Grammys</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/12/27/austin-wintorys-journey-to-the-2013-grammys/">Austin Wintory's journey to the 2013 Grammys</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 27 Dec 2012 17:00:00 EST. Composed by San Francisco-based electronic music producer A_Rival, the 22-track album fuses Mega Man's sonic sensibilities with classic pieces of orchestration from Street Fighter's past.<br /><br />The soundtrack, which includes character themes and scores from the game's various menus, is being sold through Bandcamp's name-your-own-price model with a minimum price of $0.00. So, hypothetically, this could either be the cheapest <em>or</em> most expensive piece of music you've ever purchased. Regardless of which end of that spectrum you feel is most appropriate, at least do yourself the favor of downloading these sweet, chippy jams.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/12/18/street-fighter-x-mega-mans-chiptune-soundtrack-now-on-bandcamp/">Street Fighter X Mega Man's chiptune soundtrack now on Bandcamp</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 18 Dec 2012 23:00:00 EST. Seropian and Harris are pretty serious about their premiere, and this sounds like part of that effort to make a truly <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/06/10/halo-mastermind-takes-his-sci-fi-shooter-chops-to-mobile-gaming/">hardcore mobile</a> game.<br /><br />"We've been big fans of Serj's for quite some time," Seropian says. "The opportunity to collaborate with him on <em>Morning Star</em> gave us a way to take the game to a whole new level. We knew his score would be unique, but it's his ability to interpret a scene or gameplay element and come up with something that makes it moodier, more dramatic or just more awesome that's really got us pumped."<br /><br />Tankian, a self-described poet and political activist along with his musical duties, composed the music in the above trailer, for those interested in a teaser.<br /><br />"I'm really enjoying working on <em>Morning Star</em> because it gives me the ability to create new musical worlds to complement the new visual worlds in the game," Tankian says. "Though most of the gameplay will be action-oriented cues, the stunning artwork and static scenes have inspired unique sounds unheard before."<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/12/18/serj-tankian-composing-the-beats-behind-morning-star/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Serj Tankian composing the beats behind Morning Star</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/12/18/serj-tankian-composing-the-beats-behind-morning-star/">Serj Tankian composing the beats behind Morning Star</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 18 Dec 2012 20:45:00 EST. The Winter Bundle includes two halves of more than 80 songs each, the indie pack and the Fami pack, with either half up for $7 or the full bundle for $10.<br /><br />The indie pack includes <em>Rainbow Moon Melodies</em>, <em>Slipstream Volume One</em> (revisiting music from <em>Wipeout</em>), <em>El Huervo Trilogy </em>(including music from <em>Kometen</em>, <em>Hotline Miami</em> and <em>Clairvoyance</em>) and the <em>FTL: Faster Than Light</em> soundtrack. The Fami pack includes the holiday chiptune album <em>8-Bit Jesus</em>, Mega Man cover album <em>Mega Ran Fifth Anniversary Edition</em>, <em>Killed by Koopa Stage One</em> and <em>FAMI-MODE 2012 Live Recordings</em>.<br /><br />The Kickstarter itself funds the FAMI-MODE 2012 DVD, but if it makes you feel better, look at this as a simple way to get the Nubuwo Winter Bundle on the cheap. The Kickstarter has to succeed for the goods to be distributed in this way, though - there are eight days left to raise $4,700 on this thing. Rock and fund on, chiptune lovers.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/12/18/grab-the-nubuwo-winter-bundle-help-fund-the-fami-mode-2012-dvd/">Grab the Nubuwo Winter Bundle, help fund the FAMI-MODE 2012 DVD</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 18 Dec 2012 18:30:00 EST. The PC/Mac/Linux indie is inhabited by "living musical instruments" called Moks, each of which makes a different sound - therefore creating a new composition whenever many of them are in the same place.<br /><br />Players can collect these musical creatures as they explore the 3D environment, interacting with them to change their individual sounds (by making them angry, etc.) or rearranging them to make new compositions. Players will be able to meet online and jam together in 16-player groups, as well. <br /><br />Samim Winiger, creative director of developer 2Beats Studios told Joystiq "You could say it's a distant cousin of recent indie hit <em>Journey</em> mixed with a bit of <em>LittleBigPlanet,</em>" a comparison that makes sense given the combination of atmosphere and creation. <em>MokMok</em> is "coming soon."<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/12/14/mokmok-turns-monsters-into-music/">'MokMok' turns monsters into music</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Fri, 14 Dec 2012 16:00:00 EST. The Crysis developer says it's giving the money it would normally spend on Xmas cards to charity, instead choosing to spread some holiday love this way.<br /><br />Not that the game itself is particularly charitable. You can either try Silent Night on normal difficulty, which is tricky enough on its own, or you can get your butt rhythmically kicked by the expert-rated Jingle Bells. At least you'll have a few familiar Crysis faces to festively cheer you on, or in our case tell us we're hurting their ears.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/12/13/crytek-rhythm-minigame-spreads-charitable-xmas-cheer/">Crytek rhythm minigame spreads charitable Xmas cheer</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 13 Dec 2012 15:30:00 EST. Since all of the game's <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/11/24/final-mew-genics-character-is-one-shady-guy/">characters</a> <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/11/18/the-fourth-mew-genics-character-likes-cats-more-than-you/">have</a> <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/11/11/team-meats-third-mew-genics-character-frank-has-head-problems/">been</a> <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/11/04/team-meat-digs-up-a-first-mew-genics-characters-art-each-caturd/">revealed</a>, the Team Meat has begun slowly releasing tangential information about the game, with this week's reveal being "Cat Chase," the title theme.<br /><br />"We really splurged with the soundtrack for <em>Mew-Genics</em>, the game will feature a full album of over 20 studio recorded songs," Team Meat's Edmund McMillen said in an <a href="http://supermeatboy.com/129/Mew_Genics_Teaser_week_7/#b">official update</a>. "We really wanted to make the games music feature extended themes of the game or small stories within each song, kind of how Katamari did it in a way, except all our songs are about cats!"<br /><br />The game's soundtrack/album is being composed by Matthias Bossi and Jon Evans, the former of which provided the narration for <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/the-binding-of-isaac"><em>The Binding of Isaac</em></a>. Here's hoping the rest of the score has the same spooky, <em>Neverhood</em>/<em>Skullmonkeys</em>-esque vibe as this track, which can be heard above. <p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/12/08/mew-genics-teaser-brings-the-beautiful-noise/">Mew-Genics teaser brings the beautiful noise</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Sat, 08 Dec 2012 21:00:00 EST. This time, Mykah turns his focus on the Kirby series, giving us <em>Kirby's Bassface</em>, a five-track EP remixing some of the pink puffball's classic tunes. The DLC pack, which includes bass tracks and teaching functions for either a standard 6-string guitar or a 4-string bass guitar, hit Xbox 360 and PS3 <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/08/03/rocksmith-dropping-the-bass-on-august-14/">earlier this August</a>.<br /><br />In addition to content for <a href="http://rocksmith.ubi.com/rocksmith/en-US/downloads/">the game's current songs</a>, the Bass Expansion allows you to access bass information for any DLC songs in the future, so it's quite an investment. The Bass Expansion will be available for $29.99, the same initial price as the console versions. One important bass-playing thing it won't teach you is how to look cooler than the lead guitarist while you play. Better get started working on that right now.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/09/21/rocksmiths-bass-expansion-comes-to-pc-on-october-16/">Rocksmith's Bass Expansion comes to PC on October 16</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Fri, 21 Sep 2012 02:00:00 EST. It's true, the music has some real crunk beats. It's a mega jam of 80s happening hip, and we happen to think it's boss.<br /><br />So how radical is it that its composer, Jake Kaufman, just made <a href="http://virt.bandcamp.com/album/double-dragon-neon">the entire soundtrack </a>available for free? Yes, it's <a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-C_M1TNNeHg">very</a> <a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ntG50eXbBtc">awesome</a> <a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lDK9QqIzhwk">radical</a>.<br /><br />All 45 tracks from the PSN/XBLA game can be found on <a href="http://virt.bandcamp.com/album/double-dragon-neon">Kaufman's site</a>. While they can be downloaded at no cost, it would be hella bunk of us to not say that you can send some money Jake's way by naming your price. <a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hBe0VCso0qs">Fresh</a>!<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/09/12/double-dragon-neons-rad-awesome-soundtrack-available-for-free/">Double Dragon Neon's rad awesome soundtrack available for free</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 12 Sep 2012 13:00:00 EST. But PAX goes for four days, you say - what about the rest of the weekend? We'll cover Saturday for you as well: "Videogame collective" Attract Mode and videogame apparel site Fangamer are teaming up to <a href="http://attractmo.de/fangamer-versus-attract-mode/">hold a great big live art and game show</a>, starting at 7pm on Saturday, September 1 in Seattle.<br /><br /><em>Cumulo Nimblers</em>, Capy's <a href="http://joystiq.com/game/super-time-force"><em>Super Time Force</em></a>, and Eric Zimmerman's <a href="http://www.metaga.me/"><em>Metagame</em></a> will all be there and playable, 8-bit artist Danimal Cannon and hip-hop gamer MegaRan (<a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=A5ue7gh2lkk">he's good</a>) will provide the tunes, and the whole show will be drenched in <a href="http://attractmo.de/fangamer-versus-attract-mode-just-a-taste/">some of the best video-game related artwork</a> you'll find (and which you can see examples of in the gallery below). It'll be a rad time indeed; it's an all ages show that's open to the public, and admission is $5.<br /><br />The event starts at 7pm and goes until 11 on Saturday September 1, and you can find it at the 1927 Events space, at 1927 3rd Ave. in Seattle. As for your Friday and Sunday nights at PAX, well, you'll have to find your own party space for those.<div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/fangamer-vs-attract-mode-pax-2012-art-show/">Fangamer vs. Attract Mode PAX 2012 Art Show</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/fangamer-vs-attract-mode-pax-2012-art-show/#5238001"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2012/08/fgvsam024_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/fangamer-vs-attract-mode-pax-2012-art-show/#5238002"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2012/08/fgvsam025_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/fangamer-vs-attract-mode-pax-2012-art-show/#5238003"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2012/08/fgvsam013_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/fangamer-vs-attract-mode-pax-2012-art-show/#5238004"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2012/08/fgvsam014_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/fangamer-vs-attract-mode-pax-2012-art-show/#5238005"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2012/08/fgvsam015_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/08/28/attract-mode-and-fangamer-host-all-ages-video-game-art-show-satu/">Attract Mode and Fangamer host all-ages video game art show Saturday night at PAX</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 28 Aug 2012 06:00:00 EST. This week during Gamescom, the company released a trailer, as well as a partial track list for the title, which is set to arrive later on this year, exclusively on Sony's newest handheld.<br /><br />You can find the announced track list after the break - it ranges from the gritty Rob Zombie and Marilyn Manson, to the groovy <a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LdAmvB5cn6A">Styles of Beyond</a> and even Mandarin Chinese rapper Shen Yi. That's a positively eclectic selection right there, and <em>Kickbeat</em> will also include a tool for players to create playable tracks from their own music as well. So if that works as planned, there will be no end of tunes to play as you kick a fool's heads in.<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/08/15/kickbeat-trailer-partial-track-list-revealed-at-gamescom/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>KickBeat trailer, partial track list revealed at Gamescom</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/08/15/kickbeat-trailer-partial-track-list-revealed-at-gamescom/">KickBeat trailer, partial track list revealed at Gamescom</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 15 Aug 2012 04:00:00 EST. "Cities," "Spiral Staircases," and "Touch the People" will apparently each get their own levels in this August's PlayStation 3/Vita game. All three tracks are brand new for <em>Sound Shapes</em>, rather than from Beck's lengthy discography.<br /><br />Beck joins co-developer I Am Robot and Proud (Shaw-Han Liem), <em>Sworcery</em> composer Jim Guthrie, and notoriously game-centric DJ Deadmau5 on the game's soundtrack, which, like, it's gonna be a super good soundtrack, right? We totally agree.<br /><br />When the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/12/13/made-in-toronto-deadmau5-collaborating-with-queasy-on-sound-sha/">Deadmau5 collaboration was announced</a>, Queasy Games told us that his tracks weren't just implemented into game levels, but also part of the game's level editor, allowing players to break apart the track and use it to create a soundscape behind the platforming. It stands to reason that Beck's tracks will also get this functionality, making this news all the more <em>thrilling</em>.<br /><br />[Image credit: Flickr user '<a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/thehotttrock/">lizzk</a>']<div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/sound-shapes-7-18-12/">Sound Shapes (7/18/12)</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/sound-shapes-7-18-12/#5160302"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2012/07/sscities1_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/sound-shapes-7-18-12/#5160303"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2012/07/sscities2_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/sound-shapes-7-18-12/#5160304"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2012/07/sscities3_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/sound-shapes-7-18-12/#5160305"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2012/07/sscities4_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/sound-shapes-7-18-12/#5160306"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2012/07/ssspiralstaircase1_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/07/18/odelay-beck-penning-three-new-tracks-for-sound-shapes/">Odelay! He's not crafting the whole soundtrack, though, as <em>Mass Effect 1</em> and <em>2</em> soundtrack composer Jack Wall is taking that responsibility.<br /><br />Reznor said he was led to the project after having composed soundtracks for both <em>The Social Network</em> and <em>The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo</em>. "I started dipping my toe into film scoring. That led me to film scoring agents and whatnot and a variety of projects start to get thrown at you to check your level of interest. While the album is on sale for $15, a mere $5 more nets buyers a physical DVD with extra goodies, including books on creating chiptune music and an LSDJ player ROM. Songs on the album use sound chips from a variety of systems, ranging from the Game Boy to the Commodore Amiga.<br /><br />With a little legwork, lovers of music players considerably larger than their pockets can enjoy said chiptunes on a Game Boy system using the ROM, as seen in the video above.<br /><br />[Thanks, Nigel!]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/06/17/chiptune-album-puts-a-music-player-in-your-game-boy/">Chiptune album puts a music player in your Game Boy</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Sun, 17 Jun 2012 21:00:00 EST. Seriously, we've written this piece, like, <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/11/04/no-doubt-suing-activision-for-band-hero-circus-act-appearance/">three</a> <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/04/16/activision-fails-to-have-no-doubt-lawsuit-dismissed/">times</a> <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/02/18/no-doubts-activision-lawsuit-can-go-to-the-next-level/">already</a>. This story is bananas.<br /><br /><em>Sorry.</em><br /><br />No Doubt, the rock band led by singer Gwen Stefani, sued Activision in 2009, claiming it was used to create a "virtual karaoke circus act;" No Doubt says it only signed off on having its likeness portrayed singing its own songs, but the band is unlockable to play through the game's complete catalog.<br /><br />A Superior Court judge has denied Activision's attempt to dismiss claims from the case, including fraud, violation of publicity rights and breach of contract, and it is expected to (finally) go to trial later this year. Activision says it has a video recording of No Doubt being told about the unlockable features and it is looking forward to presenting its defense.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/05/30/no-doubt-vs-activision-lawsuit-cleared-for-trial-later-this-year/">No Doubt vs Activision lawsuit cleared for trial later this year</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 30 May 2012 23:00:00 EST. The Melbourne Town Hall Organ is four stories tall, but Vik used his own software, Kinectar, with the organ's MIDI connection to play the whole thing from one moodily lit spot on the stage.<br /><br />Vik and vocalist Elise Richards composed <em>Carpe Zythum</em> and performed it in November, and finally the full video will be available next week, according to <a href="http://www.kinecthacks.net/controlling-a-4-story-pipe-organ-with-the-kinect/?utm_source=feedburner&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Feed%3A+Kinecthacksnet+%28KinectHacks.net%29">Kinect Hacks</a>. The above teaser plays a clip of the performance and reveals the madness behind the music, waving arms and invisible instruments included.<br /><br /><strong>Update:</strong> As a few of you have mentioned below, the full performance is available now on <a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fuZpSPUtya4&amp;feature=youtu.be">YouTube</a>.
