Namco Bandai <a href="http://www.bandainamco.co.jp/en/ir/">released</a> its financial results for the end of its fiscal year today, noting increased earnings in multiple sectors despite missing sales targets for <i>Tekken Tag Tournament 2</i> and <i>Tales of Xillia 2</i>.<br />
<br />
The company's worldwide net sales grew by 7.3 percent, ending this fiscal year at &yen;487 billion (approximately $4.9B), compared to last year's earnings of &yen;434 billion. Namco Bandai's net income for the year ending March 31, 2013 was &yen;32.4 billion ($327M), a 67.8 percent increase over last year's reported &yen;19.3 billion.<br />
<br />
Regional sales saw significant boosts. Net sales of Namco Bandai products in Japan increased 7.3 percent year-over-year to &yen;406 billion ($4.1B), while sales for the Americas rose 38.3 percent, finishing at &yen;33.6 billion ($339M).<br />
<br />
The report additionally reveals that Namco Bandai failed to meet shipping targets for some of its key titles. Siliconera <a href="http://www.siliconera.com/2013/05/09/tales-of-xillia-2-tekken-tag-tournament-2-miss-sales-target/">notes</a> that Namco Bandai expected to ship 1.7 million units of <i>Tekken Tag Tournament 2</i> worldwide, but came up short at 1.5 million. The Japan-exclusive RPG <i>Tales of Xillia 2</i> shipped 500,000, missing its initial target of 650,000 units.<br />
<br />
Other big titles for the company include <i>SoulCalibur V</i>, which shipped 1.05 million units worldwide in the fiscal year ending in March, and two entries in its <i>Naruto Shippuden</i> series, which shipped a combined 1.76 million units across all regions.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2013/05/09/namco-bandais-year-end-revenues-rise-despite-missing-tekken-tar/">Namco Bandai's year-end revenues rise despite missing Tekken target</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 09 May 2013 20:00:00 EST. So if on April 30 you see a massive ball of clumped-together games where the PSN should be, you'll know what's up.<br /><br />The game, first released in North America almost ten years ago, will come to PSN as a PS2 Classic. That means it's playable on PS3, but not Vita. It's a huge sensation in Japan, and would meet mostly blank stares over here.<br /><br />And now, Namco is helping generate those blank stares, releasing three Idolm@ster games, in English, on the iOS App Store. The catch: they're rhythm game spinoffs, without any of the simulation aspects. The real catch: they're $54.99 each. They're the same, except each stars a different team of erstwhile idols and includes a different animated sequence.<br /><br />Square Enix just breathed a massive sigh of relief, as the pressure is off of its insane iOS pricing tendencies for a while.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2013/04/22/namcos-idolm-ster-games-released-on-ios-in-english-for-55-eac/">Namco's Idolm@ster games released on iOS in English (for $55 each)</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Mon, 22 Apr 2013 21:50:00 EST. Today, a new Android app called Tamagotchi L.i.f.e. is available as a free ad-supported download, emulating all of the same functionality found in that digital creature craze of the 90s.<br /><br />Tamagotchi L.i.f.e. is only available on Android (running 2.3 and up) thus far, but developer Sync Beatz promises it's coming to Apple devices too, according to a report on <a href="http://techland.time.com/2013/02/14/tamagotchi-returns-electronic-pet-reborn-as-android-app/">Techland</a>. Aside from taking care of a Tamagotchi, the app also has plenty of unlockables: wallpapers, new Tamagotchi, different cosmetic options for your shell and different backgrounds. There's also a mode in which you can directly interact with your Tamagotchi and play a game of rock, paper, scissors using touch-screen controls.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2013/02/14/tamagotchi-breathes-new-l-i-f-e-into-android-today/">Tamagotchi breathes new 'L.i.f.e.' into Android today</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 14 Feb 2013 17:30:00 EST. The game will launch some time in 2013.<br /><br />The lone detail known about the game is that its theme song will be sung by Haruka Chisuga, the winner of the 2012 "Miss Macross 30" competition. Had we been aware of the competition that bears the name of the new game, this <em>Macross 30</em> announcement would have been less of a surprise.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/09/23/macross-30-coming-from-namco-bandai/">Macross 30 coming from Namco Bandai</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Sun, 23 Sep 2012 21:00:00 EST. Rather than doing so in a hotel or a lavish club, however, the company brought gaming press to its headquarters in Shinagawa, Tokyo. That's what <a href="http://adventuretime.wikia.com/wiki/Everything_burrito"><em>Tekken Tag Tournament 2</em></a> is like, and it's <em>delicious</em>. Everything that's ever been good about Tekken is in here, from its surprisingly deep, accessible gameplay mechanics to its bombastic and hilarious attitude - all presented in a package more polished and refined than ever before.<br /><br />By sticking with the same ideas that have driven this series for the last 18 years, rather than attempting to reinvent the series or fighting games as a genre, Namco Bandai has produced the best, most complete Tekken there's ever been. It has also, perhaps inadvertently, published a dissertation on how to design an incredibly solid, full-featured fighting game.<div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/tekken-tag-tournament-2-e3-2012/">Tekken Tag Tournament 2 (E3 2012)</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/tekken-tag-tournament-2-e3-2012/#5070421"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2012/06/tekkentag2e3201201_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/tekken-tag-tournament-2-e3-2012/#5070422"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2012/06/tekkentag2e3201202_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/tekken-tag-tournament-2-e3-2012/#5070423"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2012/06/tekkentag2e3201203_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/tekken-tag-tournament-2-e3-2012/#5070424"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2012/06/tekkentag2e3201204_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/tekken-tag-tournament-2-e3-2012/#5070425"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2012/06/tekkentag2e3201205_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/09/11/tekken-tag-tournament-2-review/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Tekken Tag Tournament 2 review: Bear punching at its very finest</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/09/11/tekken-tag-tournament-2-review/">Tekken Tag Tournament 2 review: Bear punching at its very finest</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 11 Sep 2012 12:00:00 EST. Namco told <a href="http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/2012-06-01-ni-no-kuni-uk-release-date-announced">Eurogamer</a> that the UK date for the Level-5/Studio Ghibli PS3 game is January 25.<br /><br />The trailer also provides additional exposure to the English voice acting, which we declare "not bad." Should you disagree, however, take comfort in the knowledge that the Japanese track will also be on the disc.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/06/01/ni-no-kuni-goes-from-another-world-to-ours-january-22/">Ni no Kuni goes from another world to ours on January 22</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Fri, 01 Jun 2012 16:00:00 EST. "To novice players, they're playing various mini-games that we've prepared and enjoying them while gaining customisation items and techniques," Tekken series lead Katsuhiro Karada tells <a href="http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/2012-04-17-tekken-tag-tournament-2-features-fight-lab-mode">Eurogamer</a>. "Then they've gone through the mode a certain amount, and they've gained more Tekken knowledge and ability in the game."<br /><br />Ultimately, players will be able to customize their Combot with moves from other fighters and use him in the single-player and online multiplayer modes.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/04/18/tekken-tag-tournament-2-will-have-fight-lab-tutorial-mode/">Tekken Tag Tournament 2 will have 'Fight Lab' tutorial mode</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 18 Apr 2012 01:00:00 EST. Namco announced this afternoon that <em>Unbounded</em> is delayed until "later in 2012," and a new date will be given "shortly," alongside news of pre-order incentives and game features. A tease of a marketing plan? <em>Hot dog</em>!<br /><br />Much like Namco's <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/03/05/inversion-flipping-out-in-north-america-on-june-5-june-8-in-eur/">other delay from today</a>, the amorphous reason for the delay is "additional time to pack the disc with features that will truly make the game sing." Despite Namco <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/01/24/inversion-delayed-early-2012/">telling us back in late January</a> that <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/inversion"><em>Inversion</em></a> would arrive in "early 2012" (it was the 24th, so it was <em>actually</em> late in the month), it looks like the game isn't arriving until early June (as in "the fifth and the eighth for North America and Europe, respectively, which isn't even remotely in "early 2012").<br /><br />Namco said the extra time in the oven will give Saber Interactive "the opportunity to create an enjoyable and engaging third-person shooter experience with a comprehensive multiplayer component." We had just assumed that the graphics needed tightening on level three or something, but then that's why we're not game devs, eh?<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/03/05/inversion-flipping-out-in-north-america-on-june-5-june-8-in-eur/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Inversion flipping out in North America on June 5, June 8 in Europe</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/03/05/inversion-flipping-out-in-north-america-on-june-5-june-8-in-eur/">Inversion flipping out in North America on June 5, June 8 in Europe</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Mon, 05 Mar 2012 17:45:00 EST. The <a href="http://sxsw.com/interactive/screenburn/arcade">ScreenBurn Arcade</a> portion of ScreenBurn is open to the general public, and to kick things off the first day of the Arcade will feature a <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/street-fighter-x-tekken"><em>Street Fighter X Tekken</em></a> tournament, presented by IGN Pro League.<br /><br />An exhibition-style tournament, the event will be more of a spectator activity, rather than something that the public can enter and participate in. Still, it'll be a good opportunity to see highly technical play of the game just after its release. Since attending the ScreenBurn Arcade doesn't require a SXSWi pass, Austinites interested in the future of fighting can swing by the Palmer Center between 3PM and 7 PM Central on March 9 to scope out the tourney. The free Namco Arcade app for iOS is the most haphazardly chosen collection of catalog titles yet: <em>Xevious, Phozon, Motos</em>, and <em>The Tower of Druaga</em>.<br /><br />Taking a page from <a href="http://itunes.apple.com/us/app/turbografx-16-gamebox/id406585960?mt=8">Turbografx-16 Gamebox's</a> ... book ... of how to sell old games ... Namco Arcade offers free play of one selected title per day. You can choose one every day, or -- here taking inspiration from <a href="http://joystiq.com/game/capcom-arcade">Capcom Arcade</a> -- buy "Play Coins" to unlock additional plays. If you don't want to deal with that nonsense, in-app purchases will let you buy the games permanently for $3.99.<div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/namco-arcade-ios/">Namco Arcade (iOS)</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/namco-arcade-ios/#4778742"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2012/01/druaga2ipod_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/namco-arcade-ios/#4778743"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2012/01/informationfornbganbge_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/namco-arcade-ios/#4778744"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2012/01/xevious3ipod_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/01/26/namco-arcade-is-a-weirdly-stocked-virtual-game-center-for-ios/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Namco Arcade is a weirdly stocked virtual game center for iOS</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/01/26/namco-arcade-is-a-weirdly-stocked-virtual-game-center-for-ios/">Namco Arcade is a weirdly stocked virtual game center for iOS</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 26 Jan 2012 23:00:00 EST. Namco producer Katsuhiro Harada is leading up production of <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/tekken-x-street-fighter"><em>Tekken X Street Fighter</em></a> -- he's the Yoshinori Ono of Namco, if you will. And like his Capcom counterpart, Harada has repeatedly taken to Twitter to answer fan questions about his current project, most recently telling one Twitter user that he's currently "considering" a Vita port of the title.<br />
<br />
He didn't mention much else, unfortunately, though he did take time to promote an upcoming community vote via the game's Facebook page, that'll allow fans to choose which characters end up in the upcoming fighter. One follower suggested both Final Fight's famed crossdresser, Poison, as well as <em>Street Fighter Alpha 3</em>'s Karin. We're gonna go out on a limb and ask Harada for Ryu and Eddy Gordo. Those guys never get any time in the spotlight!<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/01/16/harada-considering-tekken-x-street-fighter-on-vita/">Harada 'considering' Tekken X Street Fighter on Vita</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Mon, 16 Jan 2012 20:45:00 EST. The Katamari series is known for being esoteric, having excellent music and, at times, being eccentric to such a degree that "absurd" can't even begin to cover it. It's relieving to see that <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/touch-my-katamari"><em>Touch My Katamari</em></a> will not only continue these proud traditions, but take them to new heights.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/01/12/touch-my-katamaris-prologue-is-just-the-best-thing/">Touch My Katamari's prologue is just the best thing</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 12 Jan 2012 16:00:00 EST. If you surprised yourself by becoming a superfan of <em>Dark Souls</em>, here's the next ... totally different From Software-developed game for you to try. Publisher Namco Bandai announced that mech action game <a href="http://joystiq.com/game/armored-core-5"><em>Armored Core 5</em></a> will be released on PS3 and Xbox 360 in North America on March 20 -- which just happens to be five years to the day after <em>Armored Core 4</em> came out. A European release will follow on March 23.<br />
<br />
If you pre-order from GameStop, you'll get some extra stuff with which to outfit your giant robot: the "Heavy Assault Pack," which comes with extra weapons and parts. This stuff can be used in the competitive multiplayer, which would seem to give an advantage to GameStop buyers on release day. That hardly seems sporting.<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/01/12/armored-core-5-mechs-a-date-with-retail-march-20/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Armored Core 5 mechs a date with retail: March 20</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/01/12/armored-core-5-mechs-a-date-with-retail-march-20/">Armored Core 5 mechs a date with retail: March 20</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 12 Jan 2012 13:00:00 EST. The Entertainment Software Association's <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/01/03/esa-stands-behind-proposed-sopa-legislation-issues-statement/">support</a> of the "<a href="http://joystiq.com/tag/sopa">Stop Online Piracy Act</a>" has led us to ask every member of the video game industry's lobbying and political group to publicly declare its stance on the bill. The ESA's continued support means every member, by proxy, is a supporter of the bill.<br />
		<br />
		Some companies have <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/12/30/nintendo-ea-and-sony-also-rescind-sopa-support/">pulled their logos</a> from supporting SOPA documentation to dodge ire, while others are hiding behind rhetoric, as you'll see below. Joystiq contacted every member of the ESA and requested a declarative statement on SOPA. After the break we've listed the responses we've received, along with others we found. We continue to seek clarity on this issue from every member of the ESA.<br />
		<br />
		This will become the page we update as we receive responses and clear declarative statements, so feel free to bookmark.<br />

The cross-over character cavalcade of fun that is <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/street-fighter-x-tekken"><em>Street Fighter X Tekken</em></a> continues to hemorrhage new fighters, albeit this time the announcement is somewhat less flashy (and far more unintentional) than previous roster reveals.<br />
<br />
A new screenshot uploaded to <em>SFXT</em>'s Xbox Live Marketplace page, upon close inspection, shows the portraits of Iron Fist veteran <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ling_Xiaoyu">Ling Xiaoyu</a> and Shadowloo head honcho <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/M._Bison">M. Bison</a>, as seen in the <em>zoomed</em> and <em>enhanced</em> image above. This brings the game's character stable to an even 30 fighters, PS3/Vita exclusive peeps not included. We're excited about the prospect of psycho-crushing our foes once again, but we also can't help but be disappointed by <em>SFXT</em>'s severe lack of <a href="http://tekken.wikia.com/wiki/True_Ogre">snake-arm minotaurs</a> and <a href="http://tekken.wikia.com/wiki/Gon">farting dinosaurs</a>.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/01/01/xiaoyu-and-m-bison-leaked-for-street-fighter-x-tekken/">Xiaoyu and M. Sick and tired of your neighbor Steve Grabowski always showing off with his fancy <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/pac-man-championship-edition"><em>Pac-Man Championship Edition</em></a> on iPhone? First and foremost, tell Grabowski to <em>shove it</em>, but more importantly, know that you'll soon be able to afford your very own copy. Namco's Thanksgiving Week <em>slash</em> Black Friday <em>slash</em> Cyber Monday iOS sales are offering dramatically discounted versions of excellent games like <em>Pac-Man CE</em> and <em>Galaga Remix</em>, and the deals kick off at 12AM PST today ... so they're <em>totally live right now</em>.<br />
<br />
Said deals shall stay that way through November 28, just before midnight PST. At very least, the discounted wares should give you a brief reprieve from that jerk neighbor.<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/11/21/namco-bandai-discounting-ios-stable-for-thanksgiving-black-frid/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Namco Bandai discounting iOS stable for Thanksgiving, Black Friday, and Cyber Monday (but not Super Tuesday)</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/11/21/namco-bandai-discounting-ios-stable-for-thanksgiving-black-frid/">Namco Bandai discounting iOS stable for Thanksgiving, Black Friday, and Cyber Monday (but not Super Tuesday)</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Mon, 21 Nov 2011 18:30:00 EST. Tales of Absorption? Tales of Dissolution? Namco Bandai announced this morning that it plans to absorb the <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Namco_Tales_Studio">Namco Tales Studio</a>, producers of the company's successful <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/tales-of"><em>Tales</em></a> series, on January 1, 2012. No reason was given for the move.<br />
<br />
The Tales Studio is a wholly owned subsidiary of Namco Bandai formed in 1986 as Wolf Team, changing its name in 2003 when Namco became the majority shareholder. It has since been the lead studio of the publisher's flagship RPG series.<br />
<br />
It's not like Namco Bandai is planning to get out of the <em>Tales</em> business, since the publisher just <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/10/26/namco-increases-financial-forecast-thanks-to-tales-of-xillia/">raised its financial forecast</a> based on the success of <a href="http://joystiq.com/game/tales-of-xillia"><em>Tales of Xillia</em></a>.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/11/21/tales-studio-being-fully-absorbed-by-namco-bandai/">Tales Studio being fully absorbed by Namco Bandai</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Mon, 21 Nov 2011 15:40:00 EST. It may sound like a dull hum from all the way over there in Outworld, but the Street Fighter community has been a noisy, combative warzone lately, and not in a good way. See, ever since Capcom outlined <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/street-fighter-x-tekken"><em>Street Fighter X Tekken</em></a>'s <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/10/15/watch-seth-killian-demonstrate-street-fighter-x-tekkens-gem-sy/">Gem System</a>, Street Fighter devotees (and competitive fighters in general) have been conducting heated debates over the system's merits, drawbacks and implications for serious tournament play, as well as the impact it will have on the casual fighting community.<br />
<br />
Seth Killian, Capcom Community Manager and face of all things Street Fighter in North America, chatted with <a href="http://www.gamasutra.com/view/news/38212/Capcoms_Seth_Killian_On_Street_Fighter_X_Tekken_Gems_Controversy.php?">Gamasutra</a> to expound upon some of the Gem System's intricacies and the design philosophy behind it. First and foremost, Killian stressed that the system has been part of <em>SFxT</em>'s design philosophy for years, and that it represents the proverbial "nerd feather" that intrigues analytical theorycraft-style gamers.<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/11/01/seth-killian-clarifies-sfxts-controversial-gem-system/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Seth Killian clarifies Street Fighter x Tekken's controversial Gem System</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/11/01/seth-killian-clarifies-sfxts-controversial-gem-system/">Seth Killian clarifies Street Fighter x Tekken's controversial Gem System</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 01 Nov 2011 10:30:00 EST. At this evening's <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/street-fighter-x-tekken"><em>Street Fighter X Tekken</em></a> presentation at New York Comic Con, Capcom's Seth Killian took to an arcade stick to demonstrate the upcoming game's brand new "Gem System." Then game director Yoshinori Ono called it a mix of Street Fighter with Magic the Gathering. Seriously!<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/10/15/watch-seth-killian-demonstrate-street-fighter-x-tekkens-gem-sy/">Watch Seth Killian demonstrate Street Fighter X Tekken's 'Gem System'</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Sat, 15 Oct 2011 00:25:00 EST. You know Ridge Racer, right? It's that arcade racing stalwart that occasionally revives itself for a new platform launch or awkward update, but consistently delivers drift-heavy, if not somewhat stale, racing mechanics? Or maybe you know it like I do, as a game to occasionally obsess over, to replay over and over while its electronica soundtrack bounces along in the background.<br />
<br />
Either way, <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/ridge-racer-unbounded"><em>Ridge Racer Unbounded</em></a> is none of those things. Sure, <em>Unbounded's</em> driving still leans heavily on drifting, and the soundtrack is still composed of bouncy, synthetic beats, but <em>Unbounded</em> is an entirely different beast from previous entries in the series. It combines elements of both <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/split-second"><em>Split/Second</em></a> and <em>Need for Speed</em> to concoct a hybrid Ridge Racer experience like none before, and -- at least thus far -- creates a surprisingly refined experience as a result.<div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/ridge-racer-unbounded-gamescom-2011/">Ridge Racer Unbounded (Gamescom 2011)</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/ridge-racer-unbounded-gamescom-2011/#4373389"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2011/08/rrugc20111_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/ridge-racer-unbounded-gamescom-2011/#4373390"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2011/08/rrugc20112_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/ridge-racer-unbounded-gamescom-2011/#4373391"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2011/08/rrugc20113_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/ridge-racer-unbounded-gamescom-2011/#4373392"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2011/08/rrugc20114_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/ridge-racer-unbounded-gamescom-2011/#4373393"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2011/08/rrugc20115_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/10/13/ridge-racer-unbounded-crashing-through-expectations/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Ridge Racer Unbounded: Crashing through expectations</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/10/13/ridge-racer-unbounded-crashing-through-expectations/">Ridge Racer Unbounded: Crashing through expectations</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 13 Oct 2011 07:00:00 EST. <br />
When Apple holds its big iPhone presser later today, one of the titles it'll be featuring as a showcase for the next iteration of iOS will be Namco's WWI-based dogfighter, "Rise of Glory." Despite being previously given a late September launch date, the game will now arrive "whenever Apple's next iPhone launches," Namco reps told me.<br />
<br />
And not only will it arrive with some extra juice from the new tech, but it'll also have all the bells and whistles that iOS 5 adds to Apple's suite of iOS-powered devices, such as iCloud and AirPlay support -- as well as a few other new additions from iOS 5 that Namco couldn't speak about just yet.<br />
<br />
I played the game briefly this morning at a Namco preview event on an iPad 2. Reps explained that it had been developed for iPad 2, the idea being that speculation on the next iPhone has it packing the tablet's A5 chipset (or something even more powerful). As the video above can attest to, <em>Rise of Glory</em> is a dogfighting game with tilt controls and some pretty swanky graphics. When it does eventually arrive on the App Store, it'll be available for a variety of iOS devices, but it'll shine on the still unannounced iPhone ... <em>something</em>.<br />
<br />
<strong>Update:</strong> Apple's iPhone 4S <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/10/04/iphone-4s-revealed-by-apple-japan-retail-site-arriving-oct-14/">has been unveiled</a>, albeit <em>accidentally</em>, and is said to launch in Japan on October 14, with an expected launch in North America and Europe later that week.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/10/04/namcos-rise-of-glory-is-one-of-the-first-ios-5-games-launchi/">Namco's 'Rise of Glory' is one of the first iOS 5 games, launching alongside new iPhone</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 04 Oct 2011 12:35:00 EST. Because <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/09/12/street-fighter-x-tekken-bar-brawl-teases-rufus-marshall-law-za/">that crazy cutscene with Rufus</a> wasn't enough, Capcom let loose some more <em>Street Fighter X Tekken</em> media for <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/tgs-2011">TGS 2011</a>. Beyond crazy Rufus, we've got some footage of Rolento, Heihachi and a slew of other fighters. Plus, more farting Kuma!<br />

What else would you expect from <em>Dragon Ball Z</em>, right? This latest trailer for <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/dragon-ball-z-ultimate-tenkaichi"><em>Dragon Ball Z: Ultimate Tenkaichi</em></a> chronicles the Frieza and Android sagas. There's also a giant monkey that shoots lasers out of its mouth, so that's pretty neat.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/09/09/dragon-ball-z-ultimate-tenkaichi-trailer-is-full-of-yelling-and/">Dragon Ball Z: Ultimate Tenkaichi trailer is full of yelling and punching</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Fri, 09 Sep 2011 03:00:00 EST. <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/08/27/dark-souls-prologue-is-kind-of-depressing/">Continuing</a> the series of prologue videos for <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/dark-souls"><em>Dark Souls</em></a> is today's extra creepy, lyrical reading of Part 2. It seems that at least one more entry awaits, wherein all will be explained (presumably). We'll start steadying our shields now in anticipation.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/09/02/dark-souls-continues-the-prologue-in-ghastly-poetic-verse/">Dark Souls continues the prologue in ghastly poetic verse</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Fri, 02 Sep 2011 00:00:00 EST. Japan will receive the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/tekken-tag-tournament-2"><em>Tekken Tag Tournament 2</em></a> arcade cabinets on September 14, with an international launch loosely slated for late September at the earliest. Now that we've gotten the easy stuff out of the way, here's the hard part: actually finding an arcade you can play this in. If you don't live in Japan, are you willing to take one <em>expensive</em> vacation just to play an arcade game?<br />
<br />
Of course, Namco's thinking about you stay-at-home types. You have plenty to look forward to in <em>Tekken Hybrid</em>, which not only includes the CG movie and <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/06/13/tekken-hybrid-unites-tag-tournament-remake-and-blood-vengeance-m/">an HD remake of the first <em>Tekken Tag Tournament</em></a>, but also <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/07/25/tekken-hybrid-blu-ray-packs-tekken-tag-tournament-2-prologue/">an early taste of the sequel</a>.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/08/30/tekken-tag-tournament-2-crowns-the-king-of-japanese-arcades-on-s/">Tekken Tag Tournament 2 crowns the King of Japanese Arcades on Sept. 14</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 30 Aug 2011 19:30:00 EST.
