A BottleRocket representative has confirmed an <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/05/01/variety-bottle-rocket-devs-hired-to-finish-splatterhouse/">earlier report</a> suggesting that members of the former <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/splatterhouse">Splatterhouse</a></em> developer's team had been brought on by Namco Bandai to help finish the job. "Yes, that is true," commented the rep, who added the while the studio couldn't talk about how many employees had accepted Namco's offer, "It is my understanding that Namco only offered contracts, not full-time employment."<br /><br />BottleRocket was <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/02/09/rumor-namco-takes-splatterhouse-from-bottlerocket/">forcibly removed</a> from developing <em>Splatterhouse</em> by Namco last February over an unspecified "performance issue", with the re-imagining instead <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/02/09/rumor-namco-takes-splatterhouse-from-bottlerocket/">rumored</a> to now be in the hands of the team responsible for <em>Afro Samurai.</em><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/05/02/bottlerocket-confirms-work-on-splatterhouse/">BottleRocket confirms work on Splatterhouse</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Sat, 02 May 2009 17:30:00 EST. Namco Bandai has reportedly swiped the hockey mask out from under <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/splatterhouse">Splatterhouse</a> </em>developer <a href="http://www.bottlerocket.com/">BottleRocket Entertainment</a>, giving the nearly-finished project to the publisher's internal <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/afro-samurai"><em>Afro Samurai</em></a> team instead. Sources close to the company say that Namco officials reclaimed all dev kits and <em>Splatterhouse </em>assets from BottleRocket last Friday, according to <a href="http://kotaku.com/5148824/rumor-namco-yanks-splatterhouse-from-bottlerocket">Kotaku</a>, apparently leaving the California dev with nothing else to work on besides cleaning out its desks.<br /><br />If true, it's unclear why Namco would wait so long to pull the project from BottleRocket, with the gory PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 action title set to go gold sometime in March. We've reached out to both Namco Bandai and BottleRocket for further comment, and will update once we hear more.<br /><br /><strong>Update</strong>: We've heard back from both developer BottleRocket and publisher Namco Bandai - <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/02/09/namco-splits-with-splatterhouse-dev-game-will-be-finished/">read their responses here</a>. <a href="http://www.1up.com/do/previewPage?cId=3171861">1UP</a> has pummeled new details out of Namco Bandai and <em>The Mark of Kri</em> devs at BottleRocket concerning the upcoming <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/splatterhouse">Splatterhouse</a> </em>remake, which will bloody up the Xbox 360 and PS3 sometime next year. Among the finer points spilled include a return of many of the series' weapons, including the 2-by-4 and meat cleaver, while Rick's arsenal has been expanded to include multiple weapon classes and "a few surprises."<br /><br />Speaking of the original, while Namco believes the source material's graphics are "best left to nostalgia," the team notes that they have tried to remain faithful to the series' 80s horror movie vibe. Even so, the devs admit that gore is what the game "is going to be all about," promising that players will have "a very messy good time." It's amazing what you can do with that little 'M' on the box. Still, we wonder if the title will come with a disclaimer warning kids that inevitably get hold of <em>Spatterhouse </em>that lumber is absolutely not to be used in this manner.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/12/17/splatterhouse-to-focus-on-gore-for-a-very-messy-good-time/">Splatterhouse focuses on gore for 'a very messy good time'</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 17 Dec 2008 22:55:00 EST. <em>Tekken 6</em>, the latest in Namco Bandai's <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/tekken">seminal fighting series</a>, will be delivering a body blow to consoles next fall. Oh wait, you say, <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/10/08/microsoft-confirms-tekken-6-for-360-fall-2009-release/">we already knew that</a>. True, Microsoft confirmed last October that in Fall 2009 Feng Wei, Devil Jin and the rest would strike the Xbox 360 across the face. In addition, <a href="http://www.computerandvideogames.com/article.php?id=203029">CVG</a> reports that the game will get an equal bout on the PlayStation 3 at the same time.<br /><br />The announcement was made during a recent event put on by Atari, which will publish the title in Europe on both platforms, adding yet another marquee feather in the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/11/17/revenue-results-show-infogrames-atari-continuing-its-comeback/">once-struggling company's</a> hat. Next year is shaping up to be a memorable one for fighting game fans with <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/street-fighter-iv"><em>Street Fighter IV</em></a> and <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/tekken-6"><em>Tekken 6</em></a> going toe-to-toe. Taking a break from merely educating the world about bees with tiny radios and environmental dangers, National Geographic has announced that it is getting into the video game biz. The educational institution has formed a new game division shockingly called National Geographic Games, which will be focused on delivering educational titles across all platforms, including PCs, consoles and handhelds. <br /><br />Some early fruits of this venture have already fallen from the tree, including <em>Herod's Lost Tomb</em> on the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/iphone">iPhone</a>, as well as <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/namco-bandai">Namco Bandai's</a> <em>National Geographic: Panda</em> for the DS. The division is also working with Sony on <em>National Geographic: Africa</em>, with future projects including <em>Rain Forests</em> and <em>Greencity </em>also in the works. The division describes each of these efforts as offering "entertainment with substance," though whether or not that will keep players from tuning out after they get bored of ogling topless natives remains to be seen.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/11/18/national-geographic-gets-into-gaming/">National Geographic gets into gaming</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 18 Nov 2008 18:45:00 EST. Namco's not-quite 3D platforming mascot, Klonoa, will soon waggle his way onto the Wii by way of a remake of his first PlayStation adventure, <em>Klonoa: Door to Phantomile</em>. According to <a href="http://www.1up.com/do/newsStory?cId=3170280">1UP</a>, the Wiimake will boast a "hefty graphical enhancement" over the original, while <a href="http://wii.ign.com/articles/915/915109p1.html">IGN</a> adds that the title will also be getting difficulty tweaks as well.<br /> <br />Currently no US release has been announced, though our friends in Japan can look forward to controlling the 'Dream Traveler' on December 4 using just the Wii remote and two buttons as he ... wait, what is this game about again? Honestly it's been a decade since we played the thing. You could probably just tell us it's a racing title starring anthropomorphic vegetables and we'd be just as inclined to nod along and smile.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/10/01/klonoa-wiimake-dreaming-of-japan-this-december/">Klonoa Wiimake dreaming of Japan this December</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 01 Oct 2008 23:00:00 EST. Ready, ok! Hey, you waggle fans! Stand right up and clap your hands! Namco Bandai has sent along, the complete list of <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/04/16/namco-announces-we-cheer-for-wait-for-it-wii/"><em>We Cheer</em></a> songs! <br /><br />There, that can get us motivated to talk about <em>anything</em>. According to Namco, the over-cute cheer squad you see above will jump and shout to the tune of 30 "high-energy master tracks," including artists such as Boys Like Girls and Paramore, as you wave one or both Wii remotes through the air like "virtual pom-poms." Feel free to check out the game's entire 30 song catalog after the break as you wait for <em>We Cheer</em> to energize retail shelves with pep on September 30. And if this set list doesn't work for you, just remember to be aggressive. <em>Be be aggressive</em>.<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/09/22/we-cheer-track-list-revealed-features-30-high-energy-songs/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>We Cheer track list revealed, features 30 'high energy' songs</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/09/22/we-cheer-track-list-revealed-features-30-high-energy-songs/">We Cheer track list revealed, features 30 'high energy' songs</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Mon, 22 Sep 2008 19:40:00 EST. Namco Bandai's <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/01/09/soul-calibur-ivs-secret-characters-darth-vader-and-yoda/">ridiculously cross-branded</a> <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/soul-calibur-iv"><em>Soul Calibur IV</em></a> has cut a deep swath into retail shelves worldwide, shipping not one million units <em>but two </em>since its July 29 debut. <br /><br />Still, and not to make an example out of you, Namco, but really all of this chest puffery over units shipped is a bit overblown. It's like bragging about how many pencils you threw at the ceiling, rather than what's <em>really important</em>, namely how many stuck. Then again, we imagine it's difficult to look up and count while you're ducking under the desk from <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/08/06/namco-bandai-profits-take-a-dip-in-q109/">falling profits</a>.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/08/07/soul-calibur-iv-burns-two-million-souls-worldwide/">Soul Calibur IV burns two million souls worldwide</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 07 Aug 2008 15:00:00 EST. <em>Tales </em>fans likely don't need extra incentive to secure a pre-order for <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/tales-of-vesperia/"><em>Tales of Vesperia</em></a>; the only question that remains is if they're happy with the regular version or want to pony up the extra gald for something shinier. Besides being wrapped in metal and artwork by series character designer Kosuke Fujishima, the $69.99 <em>Tales of Vesperia</em> special edition will also include a soundtrack CD celebrating a decade of console role-playing.<br />
<br />
While specifics haven't been revealed, Namco Bandai notes that of the 25 songs included on the disc, a hefty 14 will be pulled from <em>Vesperia</em>, with the remainder coming from <em>Tales of Symphonia</em> (4), <em>Tales of the Abyss</em> (3), <em>Tales of Phantasia</em> (2) and <em>Tales of Destiny </em>(2). However, as much as we enjoy our ears, this limited offering is a step back from the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/04/24/whos-your-big-daddy-bioshock-limited-edition-deets/">Big Daddies</a> and <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/03/16/halo-3-legendary-edition-to-command-a-legendary-130-pricetag/">cat helmets</a> we're used to, though we doubt that will stop fans from switching their pre-orders over in the run up to the game's August 26 release.<br />

Fighting fans hoping for a pre-launch lightsaber throw down will wait until <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/soul-calibur-IV">Soul Calibur IV</a> </em>cuts into retail shelves later this month, as Namco Bandai informs us that a demo for the game won't be available until after the game is released.<br /><br />According to reps manning the company's E3 room, the devs are currently putting all of their effort towards getting the game ready for its release for the PS3 and Xbox 360 on July 29. As for what and when exactly we can expect from the demo when it's finally released, Namco Bandai wouldn't say, teasing only that it'll be available sometime "down the road."<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/07/17/sould-calibur-iv-demo-coming-down-the-road/">Soul Calibur IV demo coming 'down the road'</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 17 Jul 2008 16:45:00 EST. When <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/soulcaliburiv"><em>Soul Calibur</em>'s</a> cadre of fighters cut their way onto the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/04/16/soul-calibur-iv-coming-july-29-in-regular-and-premium-editions/">this July</a> in North America, they will do so in pairs. The latest issue of <em>Famitsu </em>reveals that the game will feature tag team elements in order to "perform combos" based on an on-screen meter that depletes as characters continue to test the bonds of friendship.<br /><br />However, according to <a href="http://www.cheapassgamer.com/forums/showthread.php?t=169641">crack CAG translators</a>, it remains unknown to what extent "character swapping" will be featured in <em>Soul Calibur IV</em>. The article interestingly only mentions the mechanic in reference to the game's single player mode, and that "teammates may suddenly join and leave at the end of the battle." We can't imagine that Namco Bandai would be so shortsighted as to leave something like this out of the game's versus mode. Still, we imagine that just the idea of <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/01/09/soul-calibur-ivs-secret-characters-darth-vader-and-yoda/">Darth Vader conquering the galaxy</a> shoulder to shoulder with top-heavy Taki (or Ivy, or Cassandra, or...) is enough to get fan fiction writers reaching for the keyboard and a change of pants.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/06/27/soul-calibur-iv-getting-tag-teams-of-some-kind/">Soul Calibur IV getting tag teams of some kind</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Fri, 27 Jun 2008 13:00:00 EST. No one likes riding in the middle of a car's backseat area. You're sandwiched in, crushed from one side and into the other regardless of which way the driver has to turn, and worst of all, the position is often associated with a derogatory term for the female dog.<br /><br />If you're cunning, though, the role of middle-backseat passenger can be used to harness the strengths of both your fellow rear passengers for your own good. Forge a temporary alliance during one turn so that you and one passenger crush the other against his door. Then, on an opposite turn, revoke the ceasefire and cause much harm to your former ally.<br /><br /><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/namco-bandai">Namco Bandai's</a> <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/04/28/smash-court-tennis-3-smashes-retailers-in-june/"><em>Smash Court Tennis 3</em></a> makes similar use of its middle position against its two primary competitors, SEGA's <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/virtuatennis3"><em>Virtua Tennis 3</em></a> and 2K Sports's <em>Top Spin 3</em>. "You've got <em>Virtua Tennis</em> at the arcade end of the spectrum, and you've got <em>Top Spin</em> at the Simulation end," explained <em>Smash Court Tennis 3</em> producer David Geudelekian during a recent preview event. "Smash Court Tennis very intelligently tows the middle ground. You can jump right into the game and [within] 30 seconds, you can play an arcade-style match: lots of powerups, sensitive aim. But there's also a really deep experience if you want more of a simulation."

This update is the cherry on our hot fudge sundae. While we've already seen the majority of <em>Soulcalibur</em> alumni return to <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/soulcaliburiv/"><em>Soulcalibur IV</em></a>, we've yet to gander upon these three combatants. Rock, Talim, and Yoshimitsu are all making their way back into the fourth game. While this isn't a surprise, it's always exciting to get that first look.<br /><br />Rock's axe/mace swinging and stylish animal hide headgear is always welcomed, and Talim's quick-as-wind tonfas never fail as far as fun factor goes. Yoshimitsu's seashell-themed design is a little strange, but it's not a big deal. Check out the rest of the pics at <a href="http://www.famitsu.com/game/coming/1214802_1407.html">Famitsu</a>.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/04/28/more-sc-iv-characters-revealed-rock-talim-yoshimitsu/">More SC IV characters revealed: Rock, Talim, Yoshimitsu</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Mon, 28 Apr 2008 08:00:00 EST. It's been a <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/09/11/beautiful-katamari-page-rolls-over-wii-picks-it-up/"><em>very</em> long time</a> since we've heard anything about <em>Beautiful Katamari</em> and the Wii. And, seeing as how the game has been out on Xbox 360 for <a href="http://xbox.joystiq.com/2007/10/15/shipping-this-week-big-ball-o-stuff-edition/">quite some time now</a>, we were done thinking that it would ever grace Nintendo's console. Thanks to select retailers' online shops, however, hope is slowly being restored.<br /><br />Major retail chains Target and Wal-Mart are both listing the game on their respective websites, while Buy.com lists the game with the same price ($29.99), but states it's "temporarily sold out." Even rental service Gamefly has a section up for a Wii and PS3 version of the game.<br /><br />So, what's the deal? Who knows at this point, but the Wal-Mart page points to an August 29th release, so perhaps we'll hear something soon? We're not going to get our hopes up like before, but we'd be lying if we said we didn't want this to happen.<br /><br />[Thanks, Zack!]<br /><br /><a href="http://www.walmart.com/catalog/product.do?dest=9999999997&amp;product_id=5774973&amp;sourceid=1500000000000003142040">Read</a> - Wal-Mart listing<br /><a href="http://www.target.com/Beautiful-Katamari-for-Nintendo-Wii/dp/B000LSZIXA/sr=1-2/qid=1209104750/ref=sr_1_2/602-9360425-5537452?ie=UTF8&amp;index=target&amp;rh=k%3Akatamari&amp;page=1">Read</a> - Target listing<br /><a href="http://www.buy.com/prod/beautiful-katamari/q/loc/108/204305195.html">Read</a> - Buy.com listing<br /><a href="http://www.gamefly.com/products/detail.asp?pid=125505&amp;t=0&amp;fcTrack=Search?-?Popularity">Read</a> - Gamefly listing<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/04/25/whats-the-deal-with-beautiful-katamari/">What's the deal with Beautiful Katamari?</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Fri, 25 Apr 2008 17:00:00 EST. While Namco Bandai's big news yesterday came with <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/04/16/soul-calibur-iv-coming-july-29-in-regular-and-premium-editions/">weapons</a> in <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/04/16/namco-bandai-to-bring-original-soul-calibur-to-xbla/">hand</a>, the company also let slip that its long-running arcade-style aerial combat series, <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/acecombat"><em>Ace Combat</em></a><em>,</em> has surpassed more than 10 million units sold worldwide, with the franchise's fifth offspring, <em>The Unsung War</em>, contributing more than a million to that total in North America alone.<br />

The series first took to the skies in 1995 with <em>Air Combat</em> for the original PlayStation, and has since enjoyed the company of eight additional sequels and spin-offs on multiple platforms, from the PS2 and PSP, to even 2005's <em>Ace Combat Advance</em> for the GBA, with the visually stunning <em>Ace Combat 6</em> for the Xbox 360 reminding us all that we feel the <em>need</em> ... the need for <em>speed</em>.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/04/17/ace-combat-series-breaks-10-million-copies-sold/">Ace Combat series soars past 10 million copies sold</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 17 Apr 2008 12:00:00 EST. If you saw the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/04/15/naruto-ultimate-ninja-storm-trailer-proves-its-worth/">trailer</a> for <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/ultimate-ninja-storm/"><em>Naruto: Ultimate Ninja Storm</em></a>, then you may have seen the link to the <a href="http://www.ultimateninjastorm.com/">official website</a> at the very bottom of the screen. Those of you who were eager enough for more <em>Naruto</em> may have followed the link and noticed that there was nothing but a countdown timer greeting you (seriously, countdown timers are <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/04/16/siren-for-ps3-confirmed-countdown-mystery-cracked/">all the rage</a> now). However, if you're reading this right now, that timer has already ran out and you can now access the website. <br /><br />When you arrive at the website, it'll ask you to input a password that comes in the form of a little puzzle. For those of you who are true <em>Naruto</em> fans, you should know the answer. Those who are not and just want to check it out, you can highlight this text if you're stumped: [<font color="#ffffff">Tiger Tiger Dragon</font>]. At the site, there are some extra screenshots to gawk at and more information on the game to digest. Head on over there right now.<br /><br />[Thanks Bernardo G.!]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/04/16/take-a-sneak-peek-at-naruto-ultimate-ninja-storm-website/">Take a sneak peek at Naruto: Ultimate Ninja Storm website</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 16 Apr 2008 15:30:00 EST. It's nice to know that the eternal telling of souls and swords will continue this Summer -- more accurately on July 29 for North America. While we're ecstatic that we now have a solid date for <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/soulcaliburiv/"><em>Soulcalibur IV</em></a>, it isn't the only new information circulating the interwebs. Namco Bandai also revealed that the game will come in both regular and limited Premium Edition packaging.<br /><br />Included in the Premium Edition is an art book/comic that serves as a prequel leading up to the events in <em>Soulcalibur IV</em>. Also included is an ambiguously described "tournament kit" that "give fans the opportunity to document the battle amongst friends." It's not clear as to what exactly that involves. <br /><br />Premium Edition buyers will also have access to exclusive customization content. Following the pricing standards of other high-end low-end specs, the Premium Ed. and regular version will be priced at US$79.99 and US$59.99 respectively.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/04/16/soulcalibur-iv-dated-for-july-29/">Soulcalibur IV dated for July 29</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 16 Apr 2008 09:30:00 EST. <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Eminence_Symphony_Orchestra">Eminence</a>, a Sydney-based orchestra known mostly for their renditions of popular anime and videogame scores, has been tasked to record the orchestral set pieces for <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/soul-calibur-iv/"><em>Soulcalibur IV</em></a>. All in all, Eminence recorded seven music pieces at Trackdown Studios in Sydney, Australia. Eminence's director and concert master, Hiroaki Yura, told <a href="http://ps3.ign.com/articles/864/864130p1.html">IGN</a> that the music they recorded was "mostly the opening, the ending credit, player selection [screen] ... and a little bit of battle music."<br /><br />Junichi Nakatsuru, the composer for <em>Soulcalibur IV</em>, was also on hand to oversee the recording of his masterpieces. He stated that he was conscious about bringing out the game's story through music. Not just the new title's story but the series long tale: "This <em>Soulcalibur IV</em> project itself is basically the result of all the previous <em>Soulcaliburs</em> and I'm taking all the good bits [from those games]... and building on them."<br /><br />With a talented group of musicians working on a passionate composer's work, it's safe to assume we can expect to hear excellent music in the final game. To hear just how good Eminence sounds, have a listen to the clip after the break. The clip showcases music from a game unrelated to <span style="font-style: italic;">Soulcalibur</span>; however, we think you'll be impressed from the mad skills nonetheless.<br /><p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/04/03/eminence-records-soulcalibur-iv-orchestral-score/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Eminence records Soulcalibur IV orchestral score</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/04/03/eminence-records-soulcalibur-iv-orchestral-score/">Eminence records Soulcalibur IV orchestral score</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 03 Apr 2008 11:30:00 EST. <div align="left">While <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/SoulCaliburIv/"><em>Soul Calibur IV</em>'</a>s trio of Amy, Cervantes and Zasalamel were first <a href="http://www.xbox360fanboy.com/2008/03/27/four-new-soul-calibur-iv-characters/">revealed this week</a> in the pages of Famitsu, we find that we're often far too busy to be bothered with flipping through a magazine looking at pictures, let alone one we can't even read. That's why we're thrilled that Namco Bandai has sent out some screens showing off the characters as they make the high-def leap from the PS2-exclusive <em>Soul Calibur III</em> to this summer's sequel. Still, as fearsome as Cervantes is (just look at that pirate scowl, you know he means <em>business</em>), we still wonder how even he will handle <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/01/09/soul-calibur-ivs-secret-characters-darth-vader-and-yoda/">dealing with Jedi</a>.<br /></div>

It's been four long years since Namco Bandai last graced us with its diminutive pink spelunker <em>Mr. Driller</em> in <em>Mr. Driller Drill Spirits </em>for the Nintendo DS. Thankfully, it's an oversight the company will soon remedy with the <a href="http://xbox360.ign.com/articles/859/859593p1.html">newly revealed <em>Mr. Driller Online</em></a>, a downloadable version of the casual puzzler currently in development for Xbox Live Arcade. <br /><br />Details are currently light, though the game, which so far has only been confirmed for release in Japan this Spring, looks to stay true to the series' uber-cute roots of downward drilling and colors vibrant enough to make a box of Crayolas blush. The game will also include a handful of new modes and gameplay over Xbox Live, making the one thing that has been missing from the saccharine puzzler -- online trash talk -- a reality. <em>Finally</em>!<br /><br />[Via <a href="http://www.xbox360fanboy.com/2008/03/14/mr-driller-online-will-drill-through-the-xbla/">Xbox 360 Fanboy</a>]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/03/16/namco-bandai-bringing-mr-driller-to-xbox-live-arcade/">Namco Bandai bringing Mr. Driller to Xbox Live Arcade</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Sun, 16 Mar 2008 11:30:00 EST. Let's say it's February 2007, one year ago. A bedraggled, foul smelling man, wearing a sign that reads "The End is Nigh," approaches you and grabs you violently by the collar. He leans in close, his sour whisky breath burning your nostrils, and whispers, "<em>One year from now, </em>Pac-Man<em> will be nominated for a Game Developers Choice Award!</em>" The breath is so strong that you shut your eyes tight. Upon reopening them, the man is gone. You question your sanity, wondering if he was even real. A <em>Pac-Man</em> game nominated in 2008? Preposterous!<br /><br />Rest assured, he was real, and he was <a href="http://xbox360.ign.com/articles/850/850424p1.html">right</a>. <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/namco/">Namco Bandai Games</a> have announced that <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/pacmance"><em>Pac-Man Championship Edition</em></a>, released in June 2007, has been nominated for Best Downloadable Game in the eighth annual Game Developers Choice Awards, which are set to take place during the Game Developers Conference later this month. By all accounts Omiya Soft's <em>Culdcept </em>franchise has no business being as fun as it is. An admittedly bizarre meshing of board and collectible card game antics, the resulting gameplay potpourri comes across as one big happy accident, but one that has endured since well before the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/Saturn">Saturn</a> was pushing up daises. With iterations released in Japan for Sega's final console pair as well as the original PlayStation, North American gamers got their first taste of this unique hybrid in 2003 when NEC released <em>Culdcept </em>for the PlayStation 2 to <a href="http://www.metacritic.com/games/platforms/ps2/culdcept?q=culdcept">modest critical acclaim</a>. <br /><br />Since that time, however, the franchise has faded into obscurity, but will soon be given another chance, this time under the banner of Namco Bandai for the Xbox 360. <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/culdcept-saga/">Culdcept Saga</a></em>, which has been available for some time in Japan, marks a decidedly different sort of experience for Xbox 360 owners, one usually associated with XBLA downloads rather than a full-on retail release, though even trepidatious players may find the $39.99 price difficult to pass up, especially those looking for something different to play during their FPS downtime. <br /><br />In advance of the game's early February release we managed to corner Namco Bandai's Nobu Taguchi, who is spearheading <em>Culdcept Saga</em>'s localization here in North America. Taguchi was more than willing to set us straight on a number of topics, from the title's multiplayer gameplay to changes made regarding how DLC will be handled...and more. <br /><br />Check out the full interview after the jump. <br /><br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/culdcept-saga/">Culdcept Saga</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/culdcept-saga/#589088"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2008/01/borival_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/culdcept-saga/#589087"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2008/01/creeping-flame_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/culdcept-saga/#589086"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2008/01/culdcept0004_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/culdcept-saga/#589085"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2008/01/culdcept0007_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/culdcept-saga/#589084"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2008/01/culdcept0013_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/01/16/joystiq-interview-namco-bandai-stacks-the-deck-with-culdcept-sa/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Joystiq interview: Namco Bandai stacks the deck with Culdcept Saga</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/01/16/joystiq-interview-namco-bandai-stacks-the-deck-with-culdcept-sa/">Joystiq interview: Namco Bandai stacks the deck with Culdcept Saga</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 16 Jan 2008 10:45:00 EST. What can we expect from the <em>Afro Samurai</em> video game? Based on <a href="http://www.gametrailers.com/player/28746.html">this short trailer</a> -- which premiered during the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/12/09/liveblogging-the-2007-video-game-awards/">Spike Video Game Awards</a> -- we'll be seeing lots of blood, and the voice talent of Samuel L. Jackson, who also provides the main character's voice in the anime series.<br />
<br />
The first announcement for this game came <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/06/18/afro-samurai-going-the-way-of-the-video-game/">way back in June</a>, and it looks like we have pretty much the same information then as we do now: expect swordfighting, acrobatics, and a blood-spattered badass voiced by the badass to end all badasses. At least now the blood is confirmed.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/12/10/afro-samurai-trailer-sports-plenty-of-blood-not-much-else/">Afro Samurai trailer sports plenty of blood, not much else</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Mon, 10 Dec 2007 22:50:00 EST. Namco-Bandai has a habit of doing <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/03/26/rumorang-gamefly-says-beautiful-katamari-this-fall/">inane</a> things -- <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/09/11/namco-bandai-site-shows-eternal-sonata-and-beautiful-katamari-co/">frequently </a>. The company's latest misadventure involves the sale of the Guncon 3. More accurately, it's more about the non-sale of the Guncon 3. See, although <em>Time Crisis 4</em> is a two-player game, only one Guncon is bundled with the game -- and you can't buy another one separately. Basically, you'll need to buy another copy of the game to get another Guncon.<br /><br />The whole thing plays out on a <a href="http://consumerist.com/consumer/video-games/namco-bandai-wont-sell-accessory-separately-330121.php">Live Support Chat</a> posted over at The Consumerist. The guy who contacted Namco-Bandai is informed that he can always have the second player use "a controller" if he wants to play co-op and is told, "If you wish to play two players using two <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/Guncon/">Guncon</a> 3s then you will need another copy of <em>Time Crisis 4</em>." Redonkulous, but not unheard of. Come on, let's break up those peripheral bundles from day one!<br /><br />[Thanks, <a href="http://www.netjak.com/">Alkaiser</a>]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/12/06/want-two-guncons-buy-two-copies-of-time-crisis-4/">Want two GunCons? Enter <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/CuldceptSaga/">Culdcept Saga</a></em> from <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/Namco/">Namco</a>. The game has players rolling dice and battling enemies with magical cards that contain magical beasts. Sound appealing? Good. You might want to grab the <a href="http://www.majornelson.com/archive/2007/12/04/demo-culdcept-saga.aspx">demo</a> off of <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/xblm/">Xbox Live Marketplace</a>, because it's up right now, at this very moment. We're going to be giving it a try for the sheer uniqueness of it all. Expect a report later today. But, is the game going to be any good? Is it going to be the <em>Tales</em> experience fans are looking for?<br /><br />Hopefully, these pair of trailers will help you answer that question. We enjoyed <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/11/21/wii-fanboy-review-resident-evil-umbrella-chronicles/"><em>Resident Evil: Umbrella Chroncles</em></a>, love to talk about <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/10/30/dolphintastic-video-of-ghost-squad/"><em>Ghost Squad</em></a> and we're definitely looking forward to <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/11/23/the-house-of-the-reasonable-price/"><em>House of the Dead 2 &amp; 3 Return</em></a>. We'd say the console is a pretty good place to look to for developers anxious to produce an on-rails shooter.<br /><br />Producer for <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/search/?q=time+crisis+4"><em>Time Crisis 4</em>,</a> Teruaki Minami, thinks the new Guncon 3 is more advanced than the Wiimote, however. While we'll entertain his thoughts on how it's more advanced in the LED department (hint: it's got <em>more of them</em>), we're pretty confident that the Wiimote beats it on innovation and the fact that it <em>is included with the system</em>. But, we'll still allow him to state his case, as he claims "Guncon 3's LED markers are actually much more accurate. Much better than Nintendo Wii's controller. In the Wii, there are only two LED points, but for the Guncon 3 there are six LED points, so it is more accurate than the Wii." <br /><br />OK, it's more accurate, but is it totally necessary? <br />Since it first <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/11/16/fragile-namco-bandais-ruin-exploration-rpg/">emerged</a> earlier this month, <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/NamcoBandai/">Namco Bandai</a>'s <span style="font-style: italic;">Fragile ~ Farewell Moon Ruins</span> has been a mystery wrapped in an enigma. Slowly but surely though, more on the tri-Crescendo-developed "ruin exploration RPG" is being revealed, and the past weekend saw a flurry of new media (such as the trailer above from the <a href="http://fragile.namco-ch.net/">official site</a>), all of which points to an RPG rich on atmosphere and suspense.<br /><br /><span style="font-style: italic;">Famitsu</span> also had a few tidbits of gameplay information. Apparently, protagonist Seto will be equipped with a flashlight, which players will be able to control by pointing the Wii Remote at the screen. A metal detector will also be available (again, this will be controlled using the Wiimote), as well as "other tools." There is also talk of demons appearing during combat, though sadly a rather impenetrable translation prevented us from learning more. Nevertheless, you can color us <em>intrigued</em>.<br /><br />Head past the post break for a selection of screens, as taken from last week's <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/11/20/handle-these-fragile-scans-with-care/">magazine scans</a>.<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/11/26/first-fragile-trailer-and-gameplay-details-leave-us-wanting-more/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>First Fragile trailer and gameplay details leave us wanting more</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/11/26/first-fragile-trailer-and-gameplay-details-leave-us-wanting-more/">First Fragile trailer and gameplay details leave us wanting more</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Mon, 26 Nov 2007 12:00:00 EST. When we first took remote in hand to <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/07/18/joystiq-impressions-soul-calibur-legends-wii/">try out <em>Soulcalibur Legends</em></a> for the Wii at E3, the whole incident compelled us to throw away our clothes and take a shower while trying to wash ourselves clean of the experience altogether. But the filth <em>would not come off</em>. Granted, this was of an early build, but given the state of things, our hopes for the fighter-made-action game were left irrecoverably gutted.<br /><br />Now, however, Namco Bandai sends word that the game has gone gold, and while we have trouble caring, Wii owners on the lookout for something original (regardless of quality) can look forward to getting dirty themselves November 20. Just don't say we didn't warn you.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/11/01/questionable-soulcalibur-legends-for-wii-goes-gold/">Questionable Soulcalibur Legends for Wii goes gold</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 01 Nov 2007 18:10:00 EST. We like <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/Hori/">Hori</a>'s <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/07/18/a-wonderfully-cheap-alternative-to-a-special-edition-ds/">themed Protect Cases</a>. They're an easy, inexpensive, and impermanent way to give your DS Lite a "<a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/09/20/show-and-tell-straight-outta-japan/">limited edition</a>" look. This way, you can deck out your DS like you spent $200 dollars on a bundle, but then if you decide that the game is terrible or something, you can just toss the cover and <em>not</em> have a constant reminder of your own folly on the top of your system.<br /><br />From the looks of it, <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/09/25/tgs07-beautiful-new-tales-of-innocence-trailer/"><em>Tales of Innocence</em></a> won't be terrible, and so there will no doubt be an audience for this nice-looking set. It includes a clear Protect Case and a maroon <em>Tales of Innocence</em> extending stylus, for $23. It'll be released on December 6th.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/10/08/neat-accessory-sets-of-innocence/">Neat Accessory Sets of Innocence</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Mon, 08 Oct 2007 19:40:00 EST. The <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/09/23/tgs07-a-look-back/">post-show</a> media just keeps rolling in! We're not complaining, though ... far from it, when the media in question is as mind-boggling as this <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/talesofinnocence/"><span style="font-style: italic;">Tales of Innocence</span></a> trailer. Even us dedicated DS fans are sometimes impressed with the capabilities creative developers can wring out of our handheld. <br /><br />This latest <span style="font-style: italic;">Tales</span> installment is due for release in December in Japan, and there's no word on localization, but after seeing this trailer, we can only hope Namco Bandai picks up the slack. <br /><br />[Thanks, creamsugar!]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/09/25/tgs07-beautiful-new-tales-of-innocence-trailer/">TGS07: Beautiful new Tales of Innocence trailer</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 25 Sep 2007 14:00:00 EST. The central gimmick of the game is that you play as two kids who are <em>themselves</em> playing games; they have a Famicom-esque system in front of them and a pile of magazines. Both the games and the magazines are original creations based on classics; the games imitate <em>Galaga, Lode Runner, </em>and others, and the magazines talk <em>about </em>those games in a style reminiscent of <em>Famitsu.<br /><br /></em>We're as bummed about the fact that this game will never make it to the U.S. as we are about the <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/04/26/game-center-cx-is-tv-for-retro-game-nerds/">Game Center CX</a> </em><a href="http://www.fujitv.co.jp/cs/gamecenter/index2.html">show</a>. We're sure Spike TV or G4 or somebody could make decent money from a subtitled version of the show, but we don't know how big the market would be for a <em>game</em> about it. Too bad for what is basically a love letter to retrogaming.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/09/20/tgs07-game-center-cx-the-new-game-about-old-games-previewed/">TGS07: Game Center CX, the new game about old games, previewed</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 20 Sep 2007 16:40:00 EST. Why is <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/category/naruto/">Naruto</a> so angry? That's because he knows a certain percentage of people out there are thinking that licensed games are sloppily slapped together and serve no other purpose but to milk the cash cow. <em>Naruto: Ultimate Ninja Heroes</em>, published by <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/namcobandai/">Namco Bandai</a>, is surely using the license to its advantage, but the game behind it is no slouch either. This anime fighter is fast-paced, frantic and fun, but some design choices may leave serious fighting genre fans looking for something more refined.<br /><br /><p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/09/11/psp-fanboy-review-naruto-ultimate-ninja-heroes/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>PSP Fanboy review: Naruto: Ultimate Ninja Heroes</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/09/11/psp-fanboy-review-naruto-ultimate-ninja-heroes/">PSP Fanboy review: Naruto: Ultimate Ninja Heroes</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 11 Sep 2007 08:00:00 EST.
