Assassin's Creed 3 is second biggest launch of year in UK

Red-coat murder simulator Assassin's Creed 3 is publisher Ubisoft's biggest launch ever in the UK. According to Chart-Track, along with the previously mentioned achievement, AC3 is also the second biggest launch of the year (behind FIFA 13, natch). This fifth installment in the franchise (1, 2, Brotherhood, Revelations, 3) sold double that of Assassin's Creed 2 during its launch week, and 117,000 units more than last year's Revelations.

FIFA 13 sits comfortably in second, followed by three new titles and Medal of Honor: Warfighter's quick fall from grace. WWE '13, Football Manager 2013 and Need for Speed: Most Wanted debut in spots three through five, respectively. Kick it on past the break for the UK top ten.

PlayStation Plus this week: Need for Speed, Medal of Honor, Hell Yeah!

No, that headline isn't our own exclamation of excitement over this week's PlayStation Plus update. Two pieces of Hell Yeah! DLC, Pimp My Rabbit and Virtual Rabbit Missions, are each 20 percent off this week for Plus members, $4 and $2.40, respectively.

Need for Speed: Most Wanted comes out on October 30, but this week it's $54 for Plusers who pre-order, opposed to the standard $60. Plus members also get a one-hour timed demo for Medal of Honor: Warfighter in preparation for its launch tomorrow. Sega Master System's Wonder Boy in Monster Land is normally $5 on PS3, but Plus people get it for $1 this week.

NFS: Most Wanted's Kinect support detailed, lets you talk to your car

Need for Speed: Most Wanted's Kinect functionality is tied to the game's mods. A gameplay video earlier this year teased support for the Xbox 360 add-on, and today Criterion outlined how it works with the equipment and upgrades you fit your car with.

No, there are no invisible steering wheels, and yes, it's voice-controlled stuff. Just as you would in a real car, by saying commands like 'Mods, Nitrous, Burn Nitrous' you can equip your vehicle with whichever mod you need, while you're on the go. No, we don't know if the car talks back, but we'll all find out when the game comes out on October 30.

Criterion's next game is Need for Speed: Most Wanted

Forget about that other Need for Speed: Most Wanted that came out in 2005 - Criterion's got its own Need for Speed: Most Wanted title, and it's set to be unveiled next week during E3. EA confirmed the recent rumors in a missive today announcing its plans for E3.

There are literally zero details beyond the name and the developer, but we'd wager the game will feature Hot Pursuit's lauded Autolog system. And based on the previous "Most Wanted" entry in the series, we're guessing the title has something to do with police chases and speedy automobiles. We'll assuredly find out more next Monday when EA's E3 press conference kicks off.

Update: Geoff Keighley's tweeted the above image, which he says is the "first-ever image" of the game in action. As expected, the game features both high-end automobiles and police chasing said automobiles. Hot damn!

Report: 'Need for Speed: Most Wanted' listed on E3 booth schedule [Update: Yup!]

That mysterious Need for Speed game mentioned during EA's fiscal 2012 investors call may become slightly less ethereal during E3, as TwitchTV's booth schedule lists "Need for Speed: Most Wanted" as one of the games it'll be showcasing, according to IGN.

If that name sounds familiar, that's because it should: The original Need for Speed: Most Wanted (above) was released on nearly every system in existence way back in the ancient caveman days of 2005. It's possible that this may be the Criterion-developed Need for Speed game the rumor mill was churning over a couple weeks ago, but that's just rampant speculation on our part.

It's also possible that TwitchTV could merely be showing off the Game Boy Advance port of the original or something, we're going to go ahead and assume that isn't the case since we don't live in a Far Side cartoon.

Update: We have also received the schedule in question and can confirm that Need for Speed: Most Wanted is indeed among TwitchTV's on-site programming for E3, along with "TBA" titles from Ubisoft, Capcom and Warner Bros.
