And apparently Paramount, Warner Bros. and Sony are interested in plunking down the millions it'd cost to get <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/need-for-speed"><em>Need for Speed</em></a> on the starting line.<br /><br /><a href="http://www.variety.com/article/VR1118052577">Variety</a> says that Paramount is the current leading potential financier, but EA is still open to other bidders. If EA ends up securing funds for the <em>Need for Speed</em> film, we wonder which game the movie would be based on? The most recent franchise entry, <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/need-for-speed-the-run">Need for Speed: The Run</a></em>? How about <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/need-for-speed-undercover"><em>Need for Speed: Undercover</em></a>? It already has Maggie Q in it and we're pretty sure she was in a movie once.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/04/13/ea-seeking-studio-partner-for-need-for-speed-movie/">EA seeking studio partner for Need for Speed movie</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Fri, 13 Apr 2012 15:30:00 EST. Origin may be the new kid on the block, but that doesn't mean it was born yesterday. EA clearly realizes that its digital-only game service needs to compete with the other digital retailers, as evidenced by its <a href="http://store.origin.com/store/ea/en_US/html/pbPage.holiday-deals-2011?easid=Origin-CyberMondayHere_Web_Hero">overtly aggressive pricing</a> on today's Cyber Monday sales: <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/battlefield-3"><em>Battlefield 3</em></a> for $30, as well as <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/need-for-speed-the-run"><em>Need for Speed: The Run</em></a>, not to mention package savings that rival <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/11/27/steam-autumn-sale-the-final-countdown/">Steam's</a>.<br />
<br />
Beyond the games available for PC, a variety of the publisher's iOS <em>slash</em> mobile titles are also getting deep cuts, all of which end around midnight tonight. <em>Need for Speed: The Run</em> has a prologue level of sorts that establishes protagonist Jack's situation - a guy in trouble with the wrong people, looking for a way out. He finds it in a cross-country race with a purse of 25 million dollars. But where <em>The Run</em> really begins is in a warehouse garage off the Embarcadero in San Francisco. You pick a car and roar out onto the street, greeted by the light of an early morning in the city. It's not exact, by any means, but developer Black Box nails the feel of San Francisco's streets well. And then crazy sh*t starts happening all around you, in the best way possible, as more police cars than I think San Francisco actually has are chasing you and dozens of other cars toward the Golden Gate bridge, and...<br />
<br />
It makes an impression. <em>Need for Speed: The Run</em> starts out so well that I coasted on that high for about 45 more minutes before I realized the game I was playing just wasn't very good.<div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/need-for-speed-the-run-on-the-edge/">Need for Speed: The Run (On the Edge)</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/need-for-speed-the-run-on-the-edge/#4507708"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2011/10/ontheedgeenvironmentnowm-01_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/need-for-speed-the-run-on-the-edge/#4507709"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2011/10/ontheedgeenvironmentnowm-02_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/need-for-speed-the-run-on-the-edge/#4507710"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2011/10/ontheedgeenvironmentnowm-03_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/need-for-speed-the-run-on-the-edge/#4507711"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2011/10/ontheedgeenvironmentnowm-04_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/need-for-speed-the-run-on-the-edge/#4507712"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2011/10/ontheedgemclpagvstrafficnowm-01_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/11/14/need-for-speed-the-run-review-drive-angry/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Need for Speed: The Run review: Drive angry</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/11/14/need-for-speed-the-run-review-drive-angry/">Need for Speed: The Run review: Drive angry</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Mon, 14 Nov 2011 17:30:00 EST. The <a href="http://blog.us.playstation.com/2011/11/11/need-for-speed-the-run-ps3-only-supercars-revealed-michael-bay-trailer/">PlayStation Blog</a> unveiled the seven exclusive supercars offered in the PS3 version of <em><a href="http://joystiq.com/game/need-for-speed-the-run">Need for Speed: The Run</a>.</em> EA already informed us at <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/06/06/need-for-speed-the-run-ssx-and-battlefield-3-have-exclusive-c/">E3</a> that the Bugatti Veyron would be one of the fancy cars you'd get out of and walk. The other six include the Lexus LFA, Porsche Carrera GT, Hennessey Venom GT, GUMPERT apollo s, Lamborghini Countach QV5000, and the Koenigsegg Agera R.<br />
<br />
The exotic (i.e. weird-sounding) quality of those names underscores their rarity and outrageous expense. Be careful not to scratch the paint!<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/11/14/need-for-speed-the-runs-ps3-exclusive-supercars-revealed/">Need for Speed: The Run's PS3-exclusive supercars revealed</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Mon, 14 Nov 2011 11:00:00 EST. Michael Bay knows his way around swiftly moving metal machines, which may be why EA Black Box <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/video/b650c5b">recruited him</a> to direct a cinematic trailer for <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/need-for-speed-the-run"><em>Need for Speed: The Run</em></a>. It's fast-paced, sleek, sexy and gritty, and we could easily see it, starring Shia LaBeouf and Megan Fox's lips, in the previews before The Rum Diary. However, EA would have to change the name. <em>Need for Speed: Rise of the Runatron</em>, would work, we think.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/11/05/michael-bay-trailer-for-need-for-speed-the-run-doesnt-remind-u/">Michael Bay trailer for Need for Speed: The Run doesn't remind us of anything</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Sat, 05 Nov 2011 22:30:00 EST. Chance plays a pretty big role in the multiplayer component of <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/need-for-speed-the-run"><em>Need for Speed: The Run</em></a>. Not in the actual driving -- though it'd be neat if you had to maneuver around the occasional stray buffalo -- but in the pre-match modifiers, as seen in the trailer above.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/11/02/need-for-speed-the-run-multiplayer-trailer-spins-the-wheel/">Need for Speed: The Run multiplayer trailer spins the wheel</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 02 Nov 2011 17:00:00 EST. What level of adorability are you looking for in your European PSN purchase this week? A significant amount? We suggest <em>Okabu</em> -- it stars things called "cloud whales," which possess a cuteness unrivaled by just about everything else on the planet. Average cuteness? How about <em>Rocketbirds</em>? Sure, the fowl therein are all about soaring through the air and murdering each other, but ... c'mon, birds are cute, right?<br />
<br />
Want something decidedly un-adorable? You should go with the demo for <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/need-for-speed-the-run"><em>Need for Speed: The Run</em></a>. There's nothing cute about car-crimes, you guys. Chain that freestyle with the running man, because <em>Dance Central 2</em> and <em>Need for Speed: The Run </em>demos hit Xbox Live Marketplace today.<br />
<br />
The <em>Dance Central 2</em> demo includes simultaneous multiplayer and Dance Battle modes. It also features the reworked Break It Down mode (which is great), voice commands, with tracks "Club Can't Handle Me" by Flo Rida ft. David Guetta and "Bulletproof" by La Roux. Fans of the first game <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/10/14/dance-central-2-review/#review">shouldn't miss out on the sequel</a>.<br />
<br />
<em>Need for Speed: The Run </em>is also available in a demo set in the desert, with players driving the Lamborghini Gallardo LP 550-2 Valentino Balboni. Referring a friend will unlock another vehicle, the Porsche 911 Carrera S.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/10/18/dance-central-2-nfs-the-run-demos-available-now/">Dance Central 2, NFS: The Run demos available now</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 18 Oct 2011 13:05:00 EST. Electronic Arts and Adidas collaborated to produce 100 pair of shoes tied into <em><a href="http://joystiq.com/game/need-for-speed-the-run">Need for Speed: The Run</a></em>. The shoes, beyond an <em>NFS</em> detail, look like they were discovered in some box at the back of the Adidas warehouse, intended as a promo piece for the 1992 Spike Lee joint <em>Malcolm X</em>.<br />
<br />
"Our goal with <i>Need for Speed</i> is to be more than just a video game franchise, as we view ourselves as a leader in youth and automotive culture as well," said Kevin Maher, senior director of marketing at EA, as our <a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JTMf40ORFE8&amp;feature=related">eyes widened at the hubris</a>.<br />
<p>
	<br />
	The first 50 pair of shoes will be available at the Adidas Originals Chicago store on October 10, with another 50 available at the San Francisco store on October 22. The first to purchase the shoes will be invited to "exclusive kick-off" events at the stores a few days later.</p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/10/11/adidas-and-ea-team-up-on-nfs-the-run-ning-shoe/">Adidas and EA team up on 'NFS: The Run'-ning shoe</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 11 Oct 2011 03:00:00 EST. We always kinda knew that someone was gonna go careening off a cliff in a high-end sports car at some point during <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/need-for-speed-the-run"><em>Need for Speed: The Run</em></a>, we just didn't expect to see their surprised face going over said cliff. Ever gone on a spontaneous road trip with your friends? You all suddenly decide that you should <em>absolutely</em> take a trip to Vegas for the evening, and you can <em>totally</em> come back the next day. You all put on suits, pile into the car ... and three hours later, with everyone sleeping in the car, you remember it's actually a five hour drive. The moment's been lost.<br />
<br />
That's the problem Brian Lindley and his team are facing with EA's race across the country in <a href="http://joystiq.com/game/need-for-speed-the-run"><em>Need for Speed: The Run</em></a>. "If you think about actually trying to drive across the country," says Lindley, "it might get a little monotonous, even when you're racing."<br />
<br />
To combat that issue, Lindley and the Black Box folks have created a new "Battle" race mode, one of a few different ways the team is hoping to vary the pace as protagonist Jack makes <em>The Run</em>.<br />

<br />
You'll have the opportunity to sample <a href="http://joystiq.com/game/need-for-speed-the-run"><em>Need for Speed: The Run's</em></a> signature combination of dramatic racing sequences and inexplicable on-foot excursions in a demo on October 18. It's running out in advance of the game's <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/04/29/need-for-speed-the-run-detailed-racing-to-stores-nov-15/">November 15</a> release date.<br />
<br />
According to EA, the sample places you behind the wheel of a Lamborghini Gallardo LP 550-2 Valentino Balboni, in a desert setting. Additionally, you'll somehow get access to an in-game 2012 Porsche 911 Carrera S if you "refer a friend" to the demo -- we're asking EA for details of that odd promotion.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/09/28/ea-trotting-out-need-for-speed-the-run-demo-october-18/">EA trotting out Need for Speed: The Run demo October 18</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 28 Sep 2011 18:20:00 EST. As <em>Split/Second</em> fans, we're keeping an eye on <a href="http://joystiq.com/game/need-for-speed-the-run"><em>Need for Speed: The Run</em></a> because of its racetrack cataclysms. EA's made another slick trailer for it, though this one's a bit more interested in the perilous life of, uh ... the brother of Sean Faris?<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/09/24/need-for-speed-the-run-trailer-demolishes-the-road/">Need for Speed: The Run trailer demolishes the road</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Sat, 24 Sep 2011 06:00:00 EST. Previous news about Need For Speed: The Run has made a big deal about the fact you can <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/06/06/need-for-speed-the-run-lets-you-get-out-of-your-car-take-off-r/">get out of the car</a>, but let's face it, being in the car will get you across the country much faster, and heck, it's just plain more fun. And when you're in a car, you could do a lot worse than a Porsche 911 Carrera S, which you can see in action in the video above.<br />
<br />
The car is unfortunately only available in <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/08/02/need-for-speed-the-run-limited-edition-comes-with-trio-of-super/">the Limited Edition of the game</a>, which is available for preorder right now, and arrives with the title on November 15. That said, even when you're in one of these babies, driving it through the snow and curvy roads of the mountains might be plenty of fun, but can't really be recommended in terms of safety. If you're going to drive up there, it's probably much better to go in something much more <em>practical</em>. Something with four-wheel drive, perhaps.<br />

No doubt, the city of Cologne takes Gamescom <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/08/23/gamescom-2010-grew-to-254-000-attendees/">very, very seriously</a>. With a quarter million visitors descending on the burg, marketing opportunities abound. There's <em>Street Fighter X Tekken</em> ads on cabs, <em>Modern Warfare 3</em> mega banners in all the subway stations and every Media Markt (German Best Buy) street billboard in the city featuring <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/08/16/ps3-price-cut-to-250/">hardware discounts</a>.<br />
<br />
But, it's the <em>Need for Speed: The Run </em>/ Gamestop leaflets lining the subway cars for the straphanger crowd that really caught our attention. By this evening, most of the ads had been taken by the ravenous <a href="http://joystiq.com/tag/gamescom-2011">Gamescom</a> public.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/08/18/seen-gamescom-need-for-speed-the-pamphlets/">Seen@Gamescom: Need for Speed: The Pamphlets</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 18 Aug 2011 23:59:00 EST. <br />
Like buying games brand new? EA sure wants you to, as its "Limited Edition" of <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/need-for-speed-the-run"><em>Need for Speed: The Run</em></a> incentivizes just such a purchase with the bonus inclusion of three fancy sports cars -- for the same price as the regular ol' "normal" edition, no less. Along with special access to a Porsche 911 Carrera S, a Chevrolet Camaro ZL1, and a Lamborghini Aventador, picking up the "Limited Edition" nets you "five exclusive Challenges" to slay with your high-powered sports car of choice.<br />
<br />
The only version of the Limited Edition that we can spot thus far is on EA's own Origin PC download store for the totally-normal-edition price of $49.99, so it stands to reason that the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 versions are similarly priced ($59.99 on consoles). Just to be sure, we've asked EA for a better idea of what to expect, price-wise, <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/04/29/need-for-speed-the-run-detailed-racing-to-stores-nov-15/">come November</a>.<br />
<br />

"You're not trying to get first, you're trying to make up ground," <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/need-for-speed-the-run"><em>Need for Speed: The Run</em></a> producer Alex Grimbley explained to me during a demo session in midtown Manhattan last week. Rather than putting priority on being the absolute first during individual races, <em>The Run</em> focuses on an overall place in a cross-country race, amounting to roughly 200 miles of in-game track spread across the US. And yes, it'll allow you to go back to individual areas and work on improving track times.<br />
<br />
"Get to 101st by the time you make it here, get to 50th by the time you make it to Chicago, get to the top 10 by the time you make it to New York ... so this is a different take on a sprint race," Grimbley continued.<div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/need-for-speed-the-run-desert-porsche/">Need for Speed: The Run (Desert Porsche)</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/need-for-speed-the-run-desert-porsche/#4324196"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2011/07/nfstr1-1311769421_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/need-for-speed-the-run-desert-porsche/#4324197"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2011/07/nfstr2-1311769424_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/need-for-speed-the-run-desert-porsche/#4324198"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2011/07/nfstr3-1311769426_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/need-for-speed-the-run-desert-porsche/#4324199"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2011/07/nfstr4-1311769427_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/need-for-speed-the-run-desert-porsche/#4324200"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2011/07/nfstr5-1311769428_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/07/27/need-for-speed-the-run-preview-getting-back-behind-the-wheel/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Need for Speed: The Run preview: Getting back behind the wheel</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/07/27/need-for-speed-the-run-preview-getting-back-behind-the-wheel/">Need for Speed: The Run preview: Getting back behind the wheel</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 27 Jul 2011 09:02:00 EST. The beginning of this <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/need-for-speed-the-run/"><em>Need for Speed: The Run</em></a> trailer is nearly identical to that of <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/06/08/chase-down-this-need-for-speed-the-run-footage/">EA's E3 press conference</a> presentation, except the middle section adds a few extra minutes of driving ... before the conclusion reminds us of all those quick-time events we'd nearly forgotten.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/07/05/need-for-speed-the-run-e3-trailer-gets-2-minute-time-extension/">Need for Speed: The Run E3 trailer gets 2 minute time extension</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 05 Jul 2011 21:05:00 EST. EA gave us a quick runthrough (sorry) here at E3 for their upcoming <a href="http://joystiq.com/game/need-for-speed-the-run"><em>Need for Speed: The Run</em></a>, a title being put together by Black Box Software up in Vancouver. <em>The Run</em> brings a number of new features to the series, including a deeper story than we've seen in most racing games, 325 kilometers of actual real world locations from San Francisco to New York City rendered with the hyped-up Frostbite 2 engine, and of course the much-publicized out-of-car sequences, featuring protagonist Jack running along to a series of button-press quicktime events.<br />
<br />
So on paper, <em>Need for Speed: The Run</em> seems like a thrill ride, and that's what Black Box is definitely going for, with "racing" sequences that send Jack riding through the streets of Chicago while being chased by the mob, the cops, and even an attack helicopter. The problem? This is purportedly a racing game. Autolog is right here on display front and center, and if the whole point of the game is to set a great time on the leaderboards (certainly something any <em>Need for Speed</em> game should aspire to), then all of the explosions and over-the-top action end up distracting more than anything else.<br />

As you can see above, <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/need-for-speed-the-run"><em>Need for Speed: The Run</em></a> is about more than just driving cars across the United States as fast as possible. Apparently, it's also about hopping out of your car and running like hell while all sorts of madness chases after you.<br />
<br />
During EA's E3 2011 presser, a controller-laden developer took the reins and, well, ran as fast as possible, eventually leaping from a building as a helicopter fired on him. He then snagged a cop car and took off as the helicopter continued after him, all the while dropping bullets by the boatload. We'll have the trailer up for you as soon as possible, but for now, know this: you'll totally be able to run around on two feet in <em>Need for Speed: The Run</em>, as well as spin out on four tires.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/06/06/need-for-speed-the-run-lets-you-get-out-of-your-car-take-off-r/">Need for Speed: The Run lets you get out of your car, take off running</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Mon, 06 Jun 2011 15:56:00 EST. Following yesterday's <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/04/28/need-for-speed-the-run-revealed-in-teaser-trailer/">teaser reveal</a> of <em>Need for Speed: The Run,</em> EA has today spelled out some details we didn't know and confirmed some that we inferred from the trailer. First and foremost, the game is indeed speeding toward a holiday release date of November 15, 2011 in North America (and Nov. 17 in Europe). EA Black Box is at the wheel (as <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/07/01/need-for-speed-shift-2-black-box-developed-nfs-both-hinted-for/">rumored</a>), with EA DICE's Frostbite 2 engine under the hood.<br />
<br />
Additionally, <em>The Run</em> will feature the much-loved Autolog feature (as loved in <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/need-for-speed-hot-pursuit"><em>Hot Pursuit</em></a> and <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/shift-2-unleashed/"><em>Shift 2</em></a>), as well as the "hot cars and crazy-fast chases" we've come to expect from the <em>NFS</em> series. As seen in the trailer, the game will follow racers cross-country (<em>Cannonball Run</em>-style) from San Francisco to New York, with plenty of stops in between. EA's announcement also notes that "entering the race is just the beginning," with races taking place in "dense urban traffic," on "icy mountain passes" and "narrow canyons." Presumably we'll find out more about <em>The Run</em> as E3 approaches, this June.<div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/need-for-speed-the-run/">Need for Speed: The Run (box art)</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/need-for-speed-the-run/#4097791"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2011/04/nfstr360pftfront_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/need-for-speed-the-run/#4097792"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2011/04/nfstrpcpftfront_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/need-for-speed-the-run/#4097793"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2011/04/nfstrps3pftfront_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/need-for-speed-the-run/#4097794"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2011/04/nfstrwiipftfront_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/04/29/need-for-speed-the-run-detailed-racing-to-stores-nov-15/">Need for Speed: The Run detailed, racing to stores Nov. 15</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Fri, 29 Apr 2011 09:55:00 EST. EA's official <em>Need for Speed</em> YouTube account has <a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vR693MTwzq8">posted a teaser trailer</a> for yet another iteration of the racing series, this one called <a href="http://joystiq.com/game/need-for-speed-the-run"><em>Need for Speed: The Run</em></a>. Most of the <em>Need for Speed</em> series titles have focused on the cars, but this one seems to be hinting at a story specifically about the drivers in what looks to be a cross-country race a la <a href="http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0082136/"><em>The Cannonball Run</em></a>.<br />
<br />
As cityscapes flash across the screen (San Francisco, Vegas, Denver and New York) we see police officers and vehicles; a man crashed in a car who ends up in a precarious situation; and a series of disasters, both natural and manmade. Finally, a tagline on the screen reads "The Race for your life," before changing the "for" to "of," followed by "11-15-11" -- a likely release date.<br />
<br />
See the trailer for yourself after the break.<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/04/28/need-for-speed-the-run-revealed-in-teaser-trailer/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Need for Speed: The Run revealed in teaser trailer</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/04/28/need-for-speed-the-run-revealed-in-teaser-trailer/">Need for Speed: The Run revealed in teaser trailer</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 28 Apr 2011 18:50:00 EST.
