That card slot will be put to use playing <em>Neo Geo X Classics: Volume 1</em>, a compilation of 3 new (well, unreleased on Neo Geo X, anyway) games: <em>Metal Slug, Sengoku, </em>and<em> Top Hunter</em>. It'll be out in late April.<br /><br />Publisher Tommo will also include a "Rocket" data transfer/charging cable with Neo Geo Classics: Volume 1. It optimistically announced plans to release four more volumes, each with one of these cables. The full lineup for the series, 15 games in all, can be found after the break.<br /><br />Volume 1 also includes the Neo Geo X's first system update. Software support and system updates - how very like a current game system.<br /><br /><strong>Update:</strong> The post originally said all 15 games were on the first volume. This was an error, for which I apologize. Vol. 1 includes <em>Metal Slug</em>, <em>Sengoku</em>, and <em>Top Hunter</em>.<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2013/02/21/neo-geo-x-classics-volume-1-bundles-15-games-for-new-system/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>'Neo Geo X Classics: Volume 1' bundles 3 games for new system [update]</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2013/02/21/neo-geo-x-classics-volume-1-bundles-15-games-for-new-system/">'Neo Geo X Classics: Volume 1' bundles 3 games for new system [update]</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 21 Feb 2013 10:30:00 EST. In actuality, only production of the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/10/22/neo-geo-x-limited-edition-throws-in-an-additional-game/">Neo Geo X Gold Limited Edition</a> model has ceased, which was always part of the plan. You know, it being a <em>Limited Edition</em> product and everything.<br /><br />"Tommo will be continuing to support the NEOGEO X format going forward with more games, peripherals and software updates, as well as more units of the console hardware," Tommo told Engadget. "The NEOGEO X Gold System Limited Edition Collection Series that includes <em>Ninja Masters</em>, was always planned to be a limited edition product."<br /><br />Further elaborations were not made concerning what said games and peripherals might be. Considering that the original Neo Geo AES didn't really <em>have</em> peripherals though, save for a memory card and an adapter that let the AES play arcade cabinet cartridges, we're curious about what Tommo might come up with.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2013/01/25/neo-geo-x-production-to-continue-more-games-peripherals-on-the/">Neo Geo X production to continue, more games/peripherals on the way</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Fri, 25 Jan 2013 10:30:00 EST. Shipment of the device has also ceased, meaning that Japan's existing stock of the retro gaming handheld/console is all they're going to get.<br /><br />It's unclear whether this development will affect the device's availability in North America or other territories, although it has been said that the end of hardware production doesn't translate to the end of software production -- more Game Cards are reportedly on the way. We've reached out for more information and will update if new information becomes available.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2013/01/23/report-neo-geo-x-production-ceases-in-japan/">Report: Neo Geo X production ceases in Japan</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 23 Jan 2013 23:30:00 EST. Prior to his development team getting code for the game to port it to the Neo Geo, a member of the team noticed something odd about the sword-clashing mini-game that prompts players to mash buttons: the buttons don't actually do anything.<br /><br />When the team picked up the contract, they checked the code to find that the mini-game, while displaying a command encouraging players to press buttons to win the sword dual, actually "picks a random number" to determine the winner. The surprise of the other panelists at finding out about this quirky <em>Samurai Shodown</em> nugget of information makes listening in at the 1:36:05 mark worthwhile.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/12/30/samurai-shodown-sits-on-a-throne-of-lies/">Samurai Shodown sits on a throne of lies</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Sun, 30 Dec 2012 21:30:00 EST. But SNK and Blaze aren't the only companies bringing back the 24-bit platform in the new millennium. In fact, there's a group with an even keener eye for accuracy.<br /><br />Indie developer NG:DEV.TEAM has been steadily releasing games developed specifically for the vintage hardware since 2006, and porting them to Dreamcast for an extra touch of retro accessibility.<br /><br />Its latest work is <em>GunLord</em>, a <em>Turrican</em>-inspired side-scrolling run-and-gun. For those of you not familiar with <em>Turrican</em>, that means vast levels that expand out in every direction, full of platforming challenges and tons of enemies to shoot <em>Contra</em>-style. The first stage of <em>GunLord</em> alone features scenery varying from a wooded mountainside, to a waterfall-fed underground cave, to a series of ruins against a stormy sky.<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/08/23/everything-old-is-neo-again-ng-dev-team-on-gunlord/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Everything old is Neo again: NG:DEV.TEAM on GunLord</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/08/23/everything-old-is-neo-again-ng-dev-team-on-gunlord/">Everything old is Neo again: NG:DEV.TEAM on GunLord</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 23 Aug 2012 09:30:00 EST. Tommo Inc. announced the handheld console's December 6 launch date for North America overnight, and put detail to the various pre-installed software it comes packed with (<em>King of the Monsters</em> and <em>Samurai Showdown 2</em> are our personal highlights, but the full list of 20 games is below the break). The system also comes with the charging dock and joystick you see above, included in the $200 price.<br /><br />Beyond being a handheld Neogeo - which, admittedly, is pretty neat -the system doubles as a home console and can be hooked up to TVs/monitors via HDMI or traditional RCA. As such, an external joystick works with the device (though we'd suggest keeping that joystick locked to your domicile rather than take it on the go).<br /><br />It's unclear what retailers will carry the Neogeo X Gold just yet, but Tommo works with <a href="http://www.tommo.com/home/content.asp?c=retail">the usual brick-and-mortar suspects</a> (Best Buy, Amazon, GameStop, etc.) Distribution in Europe and Asia is being handled separately, and no prices or dates are given for either territory.<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/08/13/neogeo-x-gold-portable-arrives-this-december-for-a-whopping-2/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>'Neogeo X Gold' portable arrives this December for a whopping $200</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/08/13/neogeo-x-gold-portable-arrives-this-december-for-a-whopping-2/">'Neogeo X Gold' portable arrives this December for a whopping $200</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Mon, 13 Aug 2012 04:40:00 EST. GAME?</a> chain of stores in Florida, has decided to sell his <em>entire life</em> on eBay. The listing includes his house and condo (along with everything inside), three cars, three kayaks, his personal rare game collection, and all three R.U. GAME? locations. Butcher's entire "American Dream" can be yours, all for one low payment of $3.5 million.<br /><br />All merchandise/inventory associated with the retail outlets are included in the purchase price, and all employees "have agreed to give 110% in helping the new owners with the transition," according to <a href="http://www.ebay.com/itm/MY-LIFE-SALE-R-U-GAME-VIDEO-GAME-STORE-BUSINESS-WWW-RUGAMESTORE-COM-/261065510465?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&amp;hash=item3cc8b78e41&amp;ssPageName=RSS:B:SHOP:US:101#ht_932wt_1271">the eBay listing</a>. Butcher will hang around as a consultant for six months to ease the transition of ownership, as well as make a year's worth of lease payments in advance for all three locations.<br /><br />A full year of Home Owners Association fees for both residential properties will also be covered, but what we're most impressed with is the fact that Butcher's life bundle includes <em>Panzer Dragoon Saga</em> and a MIB Neo Geo, both of which would probably go for a pretty penny in their own eBay auction.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/08/10/man-sells-life-on-ebay-for-3-5-million-includes-chain-of-gamin/">Man sells life on eBay for $3.5 million, includes chain of gaming stores</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Fri, 10 Aug 2012 02:00:00 EST. What? There was cooing. We cooed a little. Anyway, it's really happening! And it's happening <em>soon</em>! And <em>worldwide</em>. <a href="http://www.blazeeurope.com/">Blaze</a>, who you might know from various Megadrive/Genesis handhelds, is producing the "NeoGeo X" handheld under SNK's license, shipping the device in Q2 with a pre-loaded selection of 20 Neo classics -- a couple of <em>Fatal Furies, King of the Monsters, Metal Slug</em>, and more.<br /><br />Other features include an SD card slot (for additional games?), and AV out. There's no price for the "limited edition" console yet, but a Blaze rep says in the press release that the company hopes to spread excitement about the Neo Geo "in a more affordable manner, to a much wider audience." That sounds to us like it's going to be cheaper than the $649 SNK asked for the home console at launch.<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/03/15/the-neo-geo-handheld-is-real-coming-out-worldwide-in-q2/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>The Neo Geo handheld is real, coming out worldwide in Q2</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/03/15/the-neo-geo-handheld-is-real-coming-out-worldwide-in-q2/">The Neo Geo handheld is real, coming out worldwide in Q2</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 15 Mar 2012 19:10:00 EST. Currently known only as "Neo Geo Portable Device" (not the product's final name), the handheld is a bit bigger than an iPhone and comes packing two gigs of storage, plenty of buttons, a 4.3 inch screen, SD card slot, headphone jack and an A/V out jack, according to Japanese site <a href="http://www.famicom-plaza.com/blog/2012/01/0125-neogeopoket2.html">Famicom Plaza</a>.<br /><br />And, thanks to official <a href="http://joystiq.com/tag/snk">SNK</a> licensing, it comes pre-loaded with 20 Neo Geo titles -- North American versions, no less -- including classics like <em>Metal Slug</em>, <em>Fatal Fury Special</em>, <em>Sengoku</em>, <em>King of the Monsters</em>, <em>Magician Lord</em> and more. Famicom Plaza provided no details as to when or where the device will be released.<br /><br />That's assuming the product is real at all, of course. The select button above is labeled "menu" in a different picture, for example, which seems a bit odd. We've contacted SNK to confirm the device's existence.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/01/25/report-snk-releasing-a-new-neo-geo-for-your-pocket/">Rumor: SNK releasing a new Neo Geo for your pocket</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 25 Jan 2012 14:20:00 EST. Takashi Nishiyama has been in the game for about as long as "the game" has existed. Responsible for <em><a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Moon_Patrol">Moon Patrol</a></em>, <em><a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Street_Fighter_(video_game)">Street Fighter</a></em>, <em><a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fatal_Fury:_King_of_Fighters">Fatal Fury</a></em>, the <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Neo_Geo">Neo Geo</a> and more Sonic games than you can shake a stick at, Nishiyama's design portfolio spans 30 years and includes some of the most fundamental design philosophies that still serve as a foundation for many genres to this day.<br />
<br />
His company, <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/dimps">Dimps</a>, has made a name for itself developing titles for other publishers' IPs; Dragon Ball Z, Sonic the Hedgehog, Street Fighter, etc. After nearly twelve years of development-for-hire work, however, Dimps is looking to branch out and create its own original IPs, according to statements made by Nishiyama during <a href="http://www.1up.com/features/the-man-who-created-street-fighter">an interview with 1UP</a>.<br />
<br />
"I feel that it's time that we need to create our own social and browser IPs," Nishiyama said. "We're going to start with things that have more manageable budgets, like social and browser games. I believe that's more realistic."<br />
<br />
Nishiyama sees mobile platforms as a lower-risk entry platform for a new IP, as compared with the astronomical costs associated with console game development. His company must be cautious, however, because creating original IPs will position Dimps as competition to publishers, rather than a developmental ally: "As soon as we announce that we're creating original IP, we become their competitor. So we need to approach it carefully and be sensitive to the politics involved."<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/12/17/dimps-expanding-into-original-ips-for-mobile-and-social-platform/">Dimps expanding into original IPs for mobile and social platforms</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Sat, 17 Dec 2011 13:30:00 EST. Christmas is approaching faster than three elves tapped together and ridden down a hill like a bobsled, so if you're the kind of person who truly and unconditionally loves a gamer who has everything, consider the <a href="http://www.analogueinteractive.com/index.php">Analogue CMVS Slim</a> as an appropriately <strike>expensive</strike> classy way to convert currency into affection. <br />
<br />
Standing for "Consolized MVS," the Analogue CMVS Slim contains the motherboard used in SNK's MVS arcade cabinets, rather than the AES (Advanced Entertainment System) motherboards used in the original Neo Geo home console. This means that the system accepts ROM cartridges intended for those arcade cabs, which are radically less expensive and easier to find than AES cartridges. <br />
<br />
Smaller than the original CMVSes we covered <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/04/18/walnut-neo-geo-system-is-the-king-of-king-of-fighters-machines/">last spring</a>, the "Slim" is available in your choice of walnut or "ebonized ash," and is compatible with every Neo Geo arcade stick ever made, according to the company's PR. If you don't have any Neo Geo sticks lying around, however, Analogue Interactive will make you one to match your handcrafted console. <br />
<br />
The CMVS Slim is available at the <a href="http://www.analogueinteractive.com/store.php">company's store</a> for the original Neo Geo's asking price of $649; arcade sticks are sold separately for $199 each. So! Assuming you can find an MVS cart for <em>King of Fighters '94</em> for less than $50, your (exceedingly) loved one can enjoy the 90's arcade experience for just over a thousand dollars. You could also <a href="http://www.ebay.com/sch/Arcade-Jukeboxes-Pinball-/66502/i.html?_nkw=neo+geo+arcade&amp;_catref=1&amp;_trksid=p3286.c0.m1538">buy an actual MVS arcade cabinet</a> for that much, but hey, what do we know.<div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/analogue-cmvs-and-stick/">Analogue CMVS and Stick</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/analogue-cmvs-and-stick/#4637268"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2011/11/analogueebonizedset_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/analogue-cmvs-and-stick/#4637267"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2011/11/analoguewalnutset_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/analogue-cmvs-and-stick/#4637259"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2011/11/analoguecmvsslimbck_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/analogue-cmvs-and-stick/#4637260"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2011/11/analoguecmvsslimfront_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/analogue-cmvs-and-stick/#4637261"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2011/11/analoguecmvsslim3qtr_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/11/26/the-analogue-cmvs-a-649-wooden-neo-geo-for-the-gamer-who-has-e/">The Analogue CMVS: A $649 wooden Neo Geo for the gamer who has everything</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Sat, 26 Nov 2011 19:30:00 EST. <a href="http://www.ngdevteam.com/">NG:Dev.Team</a> continues to keep both the Dreamcast and Neo Geo in a state of near-life, with the "Eurostyle" (think <em>Turrican</em>) platformer <em>GunLord</em>. Featuring "9 stages of exciting 2D game play with over 45 unique enemy types," GunLord will be released on Neo Geo MVS cartridge (the format used in Neo Geo arcade machines) in December, with Dreamcast and Neo Geo home system releases following in 2012.<br />

<p>
	The <a href="http://joystiq.com/tag/neo-geo">Neo Geo</a> was already a seemingly unattainable luxury -- and that was when it was made of plastic. Now, Analogue Interactive has turned this eternally high-end console into something even more fancy by encasing "Consolized" Neo Geo MVS arcade systems in beautiful walnut exteriors.<br />
	<br />
	The "CMVS" plays MVS cartridges (which are typically cheaper than home AES cartridges), is compatible with component, S-video, composite and RGB video formats, and has a rechargeable battery for internal memory.<br />
	<br />
	At $649, it's still an accurate presentation of the Neo Geo experience -- including the part where you pay a bunch for the system. The CMVS begins shipping in "early May."</p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/04/18/walnut-neo-geo-system-is-the-king-of-king-of-fighters-machines/">Walnut Neo Geo system is the king of King of Fighters machines</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Mon, 18 Apr 2011 21:00:00 EST. The Neo Geo Pad USB is a replica of the pad included with the Neo Geo CD system, with two important differences: it ends in a USB connector, so it will work with the PS3 or PC; and it has a PS button and two extra face buttons for L1 and R1 -- laid out in a nice, <em>Street Fighter</em>-friendly manner.<br />
<br />
The pad is currently on backorder at both <a href="http://www.shopncsx.com/neogeopadusb.aspx">NCSX</a> and <a href="http://www.play-asia.com/NeoGeo_Pad_USB/paOS-13-71-zl-49-en-70-3xf7.html">Play-Asia</a>, but it'll cost in the neighborhood of $50 when it's in stock. If you'd prefer, you can get a PS3 version of the Neo Geo arcade stick from NCSX right now for <a href="http://www.shopncsx.com/neogeostick2.aspx">$39.90</a>.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/12/17/snk-releases-neo-geo-pad-for-ps3/">SNK releases Neo Geo pad for PS3</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Fri, 17 Dec 2010 08:30:00 EST. Starting December 21, games from the Neo Geo's library will be released on PSN in both PS3 and PSP versions, costing $8.99 and $6.99 each, respectively. The pricing on the PS3 versions is equivalent to the cost of buying Neo Geo games on the Wii Virtual Console.<br />
<br />
Unlike the Virtual Console releases, these aren't <em>just</em> emulated versions of the originals. SNK has added features like online co-op and versus play on PS3 (and Ad-Hoc Party support on PSP), along with other unspecified enhancements. Check after the break for all ten games hitting PS3 on December 21, and the two PSP games arriving at the same time. The other eight are scheduled to arrive on PSP sometime in January.<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/12/07/neo-geo-games-coming-to-psn-with-online-play/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Neo Geo games coming to PSN with online play</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/12/07/neo-geo-games-coming-to-psn-with-online-play/">Neo Geo games coming to PSN with online play</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 07 Dec 2010 09:39:00 EST. The developer and publisher announced that it's porting <em>Fast Striker</em>, a vertical shooter made for (fellow dead system) the Neo Geo, to the Dreamcast, with a scheduled winter 2010 release.<br />
<br />
If you want to buy a new Dreamcast game (and doesn't that sound great?) you can pre-order <em>Fast Striker</em> from <a href="http://www.ngdevdirect.com/">NGDev</a> directly, in either a <a href="http://www.ngdevdirect.com/product_info.php?products_id=38">regular edition</a> or a <a href="http://www.ngdevdirect.com/product_info.php?products_id=39">limited edition</a> that includes a soundtrack. If you're really enthused about <em>Fast Striker</em>, you can buy a <a href="http://www.ngdevdirect.com/product_info.php?products_id=40">pack</a> containing <em>both</em> editions. The <a href="http://www.ngdevdirect.com/product_info.php?products_id=36">Neo Geo MVS version</a> is also available.<br />
<br />
Check out a trailer after the break. The May lineup inspires neither -- only a measure of apathy roughly equal to that on the part of whoever is responsible for the Virtual Console in the first place.<br />
<br />
There are only three Virtual Console games listed for May release in Japan. That's half of <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/04/24/final-fantasy-available-on-japanese-virtual-console-in-may/">May 2009</a>'s already-skimpy lineup, and laughable compared to <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/04/26/mays-vc-games-for-japan-may-include-msx-games/">May 2008</a>'s bumper crop. Bandai Namco doesn't announce its VC Arcade releases beforehand, so there could be more games, but still ... poor Virtual Console.

It looks like the PlayStation "Virtual Console" is expanding beyond <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/psone">PSone</a> and <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/07/27/turbografx-16-games-coming-to-north-american-psn/">TurboGrafx-16</a> games. <a href="http://www.siliconera.com/2010/03/02/maybe-this-list-of-possible-psn-neogeo-classics-will-get-your-attention/">Siliconera</a> spotted updates to a number of classic NeoGeo titles, including <em>Metal Slug</em>, <em>The King of Fighters '94</em> and <em>Fatal Fury</em>. All of these titles have been re-rated to include the PS3 and PSP.<br />
<br />
Other NeoGeo games to appear on the ESRB database include <em>Alpha Mission II</em> and <em>Baseball Stars 2</em>. Like the listings above, these games also support both the PS3 and PSP. Hopefully, these downloadable NeoGeo games will feature the same functionality as PSone classics, specifically the ability to download to <em>both</em> the PS3 and PSP for no additional charge.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/03/02/neogeo-classics-coming-to-ps3-and-psp-esrb-reveals/">NeoGeo classics coming to PS3 and PSP, ESRB reveals</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 02 Mar 2010 10:15:00 EST. Even though things are kinda overshadowed by <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/mega-man-10">a certain other release</a> today, we've still got a new game to play. The latest episode of <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/vc-in-brief">VC in Brief</a> above checks out <em>Fatal Fury Special</em>, an improved version of <em>Fatal Fury 2</em> with more playable characters and gameplay tweaks. Check it out above!

SNK Playmore has released one of its cartoony run-and-guns for the iPhone and iPod Touch. <em>Metal Slug Touch</em> is adapted to the platform in some unexpected ways: for example, instead of putting the player in control of a commando who occasionally happens upon a vehicle, <em>Metal Slug Touch</em> puts you in a vehicle at all times.<br />
<br />
Controls are simplified to make use of the iPhone's features: you move with the accelerometer, and dodge enemies with an "avoid" button. <em>Metal Slug Touch</em> sounds like a fairly bold experiment -- and something that, we suspect, works better than simply porting a console action game over with touch controls.<br />

Using parts of a real Neo Geo cabinet along with a plug-and-play game's joystiq, miniature buttons, a PSOne screen (the modder's choice!) and, of course, a custom cabinet, Pocket_lucho crafted a Neo Geo cabinet <em>even</em> cuter than SNK's official <a href="http://forum.arcadecontrols.com/index.php?topic=84207.0">MVS-2 Mini</a>. <div align="center"><span style="font-style: italic;">Metal Slug 2</span> (NEOGEO, 1 - 2 players, 900 Wii Points)<br />Wii Fanboy says: <strong>do not download</strong><br /></div>
<br />This week, we've only got <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/12/01/retail-and-download-releases-for-the-week-of-december-1st/">one new Virtual Console game</a> to check out. But, thankfully, it's a pretty good one. It might not be recommended to download (9 bucks, ouch), but you all should find a way to play it, because <em>Metal Slug 2</em> is <em>good</em>. How about <em>Metal Slug Anthology</em>, which is under $20 at most places, including <a href="http://www.amazon.com/Metal-Slug-Anthology-nintendo-wii/dp/B000GQ1NK4/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&amp;s=videogames&amp;qid=1228158917&amp;sr=8-1">Amazon</a>? Yeah, we suggest that.<br /><br />

<br />This week's <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/friday">PAL Virtual Console</a> line-up isn't short on quality, but it represents fairly <em>awful</em> value. As dreamy as we find any <span style="font-style: italic;">Metal Slug</span> title, there are cheaper ways to play all three of this week's offerings. <br /><br />Want <span style="font-style: italic;">Metal Slug 2</span>? We'd recommend picking up <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2006/12/21/metareview-metal-slug-anthology/">this</a>. Fancy having your delicate gamer's ego rudely kicked in by <span style="font-style: italic;">Forgotten World</span>s? There's an <a href="http://www.metacritic.com/games/platforms/ps2/capcomclassicscollection">excellent compilation</a> out there for a bunch of platforms that costs <a href="http://www.amazon.co.uk/Capcom-Classic-Collection-PS2/dp/B000BLE99G">peanuts</a> and comes with another 20 or so games. If you can't find <span style="font-style: italic;">Space Invaders</span> for less than &pound;6/&euro;8, you're probably reading the wrong website. Better still: lavish those points on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/11/10/wii-fanboy-review-space-invaders-get-even/"><span style="font-style: italic;">Space Invaders Get Even!</span></a>.<br />

According to two new <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/esrb">ESRB</a> listings, camel-riding run-and-gun sensation <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2006/12/21/metareview-metal-slug-anthology/"><em>Metal Slug 2</em></a> and the fabulous <em>A Boy and His Blob: Trouble on Blobolonia </em>will<em> </em>be coming to the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/category/virtual-console/">Virtual Console</a> at some point in the future. Feed your Blob a <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/A_Boy_and_His_Blob:_Trouble_on_Blobolonia#Overview">punch-flavored jelly bean</a> to descend past the break and see some <em>Metal Slug 2</em> footage!<a href="http://www.esrb.org/ratings/search.jsp?searchType=title&amp;platformsCriteria=Wii&amp;titleOrPublisher=A%20Boy%20and%20His%20Blob:%20Trouble%20on%20Blobolonia"><br />

Normally, the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/09/22/retail-and-download-releases-for-the-week-of-september-22nd/">release</a> of any Kunio series game -- save <em>Renegade</em> -- on the Virtual Console would be cause for a weeklong celebration here on Wii Fanboy. We'd break out our special Kunio-shaped cake pans and observe the traditional Kunio Week rituals (playing games). We'd be pushing the game on you in unrelated posts, even.<br /><br />Unfortunately for <em>Super Dodge Ball, <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/09/23/wii-fanboy-review-mega-man-9/">Mega Man 9</a></em> had to happen this week and distract everybody. In fact, we <em>are</em> also freaking out about <span style="font-style: italic;">Dodge Ball</span> -- we just delayed our reaction a bit. We'll have our little nerdfest now, in the most counterintuitive way we can think of -- celebrating the NES <em>Super Dodge Ball</em> by talking about another version.<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/09/25/virtually-overlooked-super-dodge-ball/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Virtually Overlooked: Super Dodge Ball </em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/09/25/virtually-overlooked-super-dodge-ball/">Virtually Overlooked: Super Dodge Ball </a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 25 Sep 2008 19:12:00 EST. When we found out that Wii <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/01/19/possibly-wii-bound-snk-arcade-classics-collection-is-awesome/">might see the release of <em>SNK Arcade Classics</em></a>, we got all kinds of tingly and warm inside. We like those old school SNK games. But when <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/02/14/snk-arcade-classics-confirmed-for-wii-plus-more/">it was confirmed</a>, along with <em>Samurai Shodown Anthology </em>and <em>King of Fighters: The Orochi Saga, </em>well, we had to lock ourselves in a padded room for hours just to get the excitement out. Now we have a release window for <em>Samurai Shodown Anthology</em>.<br /><br />As you might have guessed, the title is due to hit shelves sometime this winter, meaning it could be available anywhere from <em>now</em> to December 31st. For those of you who aren't in the know, <em>Samurai Shodown Anthology</em> will include 6 games from the classic fighter franchise and will probably be a little more than the cost of 2 <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/06/16/vc-monday-madness-video-wrap-up-6-16-08/">SNK</a> <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/08/25/vc-monday-madness-samurai-shodown-2-and-ys-book-i-and-ii/">games</a> on the Virtual Console.<br /><br /><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/09/12/save-those-wii-points-samurai-shodown-anthology-releases-this-w/">Save those Wii Points: Samurai Shodown Anthology releases this winter</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Fri, 12 Sep 2008 18:14:00 EST. <br />If you've often daydreamed of running Neo Geo games on your DS, but never thought it'd actually happen because of your technical incompetence, unfounded fears, or bad credit, Racketboy will make your dreams come true with a homebrew guide for loading up <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/neods">NeoDS</a></em> and playing these expensive arcade releases.<br /><br />Though the process is a bit more complicated than <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/05/22/emulating-the-gaming-world-on-ds/">emulating (non-pirated) games for other systems</a> on the DS, this walkthrough breaks down all the required steps for getting started. Jump past the post break for a video preview of <span style="font-style: italic;">Fatal Fury: Mark of the Wolves</span>, <span style="font-style: italic;">King of Fighters 2003</span>, and <span style="font-style: italic;">Metal Slug X</span> will look like on your portable once you get <em>NeoDS</em> running.<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/09/06/quick-guide-for-running-neo-geo-games-on-your-ds/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Quick guide for running Neo Geo games on your DS</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/09/06/quick-guide-for-running-neo-geo-games-on-your-ds/">Quick guide for running Neo Geo games on your DS</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Sat, 06 Sep 2008 13:00:00 EST. <ul>
    <li><em>Mega Man</em> (NES, 1 player, 500 Wii Points): With the Blue Bomber set to <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/mega-man-9">don pixelated pajamas next month</a>, his freshman adventure marks this week's most noteworthy addition to the Wii's window into the past. Assuming you haven't bought the original <em>Mega Man</em> in one of Capcom's many other compilations, Guts Man and company are waiting ever so patiently for you to drop by. </li>
    <li><em>Neo Turf Masters</em> (Neo Geo, 1-2 players, 900 Wii Points): This is 133 megs of hot golf action right here, straight from 1996 to your living room. You don't have even to admit to your friends that you like video game golf. We'll keep your dirty little secret.</li>

Oh, you're going to like what you see past the break. A certain <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/08/01/finally-some-good-news-about-the-virtual-console/">big title</a> we've all been waiting on (ohmaigawd have you guessed it yet?) has finally hit the Virtual Console. We'll give you a hint: it stars a robotic boy with a penchant for stealing the powers of his enemies.<br /><br />Shoot past the break to start your day off on a happy note.<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/08/18/retail-and-download-releases-for-the-week-of-august-18th/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Retail and download releases for the week of August 18th</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/08/18/retail-and-download-releases-for-the-week-of-august-18th/">Retail and download releases for the week of August 18th</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Mon, 18 Aug 2008 08:59:00 EST. <br />Game sequels often suffer from a reputation of being weaker than their predecessors, but that hasn't stopped Nintendo whacking a whole pile of them on the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/friday">PAL Virtual Console</a> this week. The M-rated <span style="font-style: italic;">Splatterhouse 2</span> leads the charge, bloodied lead pipe in hand, and is joined by <span style="font-style: italic;">Samurai Shodown II</span>, <span style="font-style: italic;">Pitstop II</span>, and <span style="font-style: italic;">Ecco Jr.</span> (okay, so that's not a sequel in the strictest sense of the term, but a spin-off for the kids). Here's what that little lot will cost you:<br />
<ul>
    <li><span style="font-style: italic;">Ecco Jr.</span> -- Mega Drive -- 800 Wii Points<span style="font-style: italic;"></span></li>
    <li><span style="font-style: italic;">Splatterhouse 2</span> -- Mega Drive -- 800 Wii Points<span style="font-style: italic;"></span></li>
    <li><span style="font-style: italic;">Samurai Shodown II</span> -- Neo Geo -- 900 Wii Points<span style="font-style: italic;"></span></li>
    <li><span style="font-style: italic;">Pitstop II</span> -- Commodore 64 -- 500 Wii Points *<br /></li>
</ul>
* As usual, Australia misses out on the Commodore 64 game.<br /><br />Footage of all four is past the break -- try listening to six minutes of <span style="font-style: italic;">Pitstop II</span>'s engine effects without going insane.<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/08/08/vc-friday-sequel-week/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>VC Friday: Sequel week</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/08/08/vc-friday-sequel-week/">VC Friday: Sequel week</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Fri, 08 Aug 2008 12:50:00 EST.
