And here we thought we'd get through a whole day without a hacking story. BioWare Edmonton Studio GM Aaryn Flynn sent out an email tonight alerting users of its "decade-old BioWare server system supporting the <em>Neverwinter Nights</em> forums." As with the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/06/17/sega-warns-users-of-recent-sega-pass-hack/">Sega Pass hack</a>, BioWare asserts that there is no danger of loss of credit card data, but other information -- like "user names, encrypted passwords, email addresses, mailing addresses, names, phone numbers, CD keys and birth dates" from EA Accounts may have been taken. These are the same EA Accounts used for online EA games, so it has significance beyond just forums for some old game.<br />
<br />
The email includes a password change link, and -- also like the Sega Pass hack -- BioWare took the precaution of changing everyone's passwords immediately. Of course, if you used the same password for any other site that you used for your EA Account, you should change that too. Should you have more questions, EA has posted a brief <a href="http://support.ea.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/5367/">FAQ</a> about the hack.<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/06/23/biowares-neverwinter-nights-forums-hacked-ea-account-informati/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>BioWare's Neverwinter Nights forums hacked, EA Account information at risk</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/06/23/biowares-neverwinter-nights-forums-hacked-ea-account-informati/">BioWare's Neverwinter Nights forums hacked, EA Account information at risk</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 23 Jun 2011 23:15:00 EST. The latest to be added to the Good Old shelves is <em>Neverwinter Nights Diamond</em>, a 2005 edition that collects BioWare's Dungeons and Dragons-based PC RPG and the "Shadows of Undrentide," "Hordes of the Underdark" and "Kingmaker" expansions. <br />
<br />
That's ... entirely too many hours of gameplay, for ten dollars. Get this and you won't need to save for any of the games coming out this holiday season -- because you won't have time for them.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/10/27/neverwinter-nights-diamond-on-gog-for-10/">Neverwinter Nights Diamond on GoG for $10</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 27 Oct 2010 14:40:00 EST. <a href="http://weblogs.variety.com/the_cut_scene/2009/06/ataris-secret-weapon-neverwinter-nights.html">Variety</a> is reporting that "sources" reveal Cryptic is working on a Neverwinter Nights MMO for Atari to launch in 2011. Cryptic Studios is currently working on <em>Champions Online</em> and <em>Star Trek Online</em>, expected to launch <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/05/18/champions-online-delayed-to-sept-1-for-added-content-polish/">this September</a> and <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/05/29/atari-believes-star-trek-online-will-boldly-get-going-by-march-2/">next March</a>, respectively.<br /><br />Considering that <em>Neverwinter Nights</em> -- developed by BioWare, with the sequel helmed by Obsidian -- was a mini-MMO to begin with, the idea of the series going totally online isn't a stretch. The only thing that's really a stretch is if <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/atari">Atari</a> will be around to see it all come to pass.<br /><br />[Via <a href="http://www.massively.com/2009/06/09/rumor-cryptic-developing-a-neverwinter-nights-mmo/">Massively</a>]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/06/10/rumor-cryptic-making-neverwinter-nights-mmo-for-atari/">Rumor: Cryptic making Neverwinter Nights MMO for Atari</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 10 Jun 2009 05:00:00 EST. Infogrames President Phil Harrison announced today at a publisher event that the company plans to revisit <em>Baldur's Gate,</em> <em>Dungeons &amp; Dragons</em>, <em>Neverwinter Nights</em> and <em>Test Drive Unlimited</em> -- but not until after 2009 (via <a href="http://www.eurogamer.net/article.php?article_id=323024">Eurogamer</a>). Three of those franchises have had recent releases (<em>NWN2: Storm of the Zehir</em> last month, <em>TDU</em> and <em>D&amp;D Tactics </em>in February 2007). <br /><br />As for <em>Baldur's Gate</em>, a follow-up to <em>BG2: Throne of Bhaal</em> has been rumored since 2001 from now-defunct Black Isle Studios. It was reportedly mentioned again by a PC Gamer UK editor as recently as January 2008.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/12/02/atari-reveals-plans-to-revisit-baldurs-gate-others/">Atari reveals plans to revisit Baldur's Gate, others</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 02 Dec 2008 17:00:00 EST. First on our list: The <span style="font-style: italic;">Sonic</span> 3D game project (no relation to the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/Sega/">Sega</a> hedgehog).<br /><br />It's difficult enough for commercial developers to create a decent looking 3D game for the DS, imagine the challenges that come with homemade project! Admitting that he's neither an animator or artist, programmer Ritz used textures and model data from <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/BioWare/">BioWare</a> PC RPG <span style="font-style: italic;">Neverwinter Nights</span> to put together this demo. Despite the distance fog, we're impressed with the smooth animation and the maneuverable camera!<br /><br />According to Ritz, <span style="font-style: italic;">Sonic's</span> features include skeletal animation, static and dynamic point lights, shadow volumes, skyboxes, picking, gravity, and object and environment collision detection. He also hopes to eventually include an "interactive 3d map builder for easy world creation and object and creature placement." Slick!<br /><br /><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/07/20/sonic-project-best-looking-3d-homebrew/">Sonic project: Best looking 3D homebrew?</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Sun, 20 Jul 2008 18:00:00 EST. He explained what exactly a Live team is, and marked some of the BioWare success stories that can be tracked back to that group; initiatives like the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/premium%20module/">Premium modules</a> were developed entirely in this little-known area of the company. He also hinted at some fascinating future plans for the team, like the potential of an interactive website not unlike the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/world-of-warcraft" style="font-style: italic;">World of Warcraft</a> 'Armory' site.<br /><br />In the process of talking about the team, French offhandedly mentioned the end of an era. The upcoming patch to the original <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/search/?q=Neverwinter%20Nights">Neverwinter Nights</a></em> game, 1.69, will be the last the company releases. After seven years of tweaks and corrections, official support will be ending for this venerable game title. <a href="http://nwn.bioware.com/forums/viewtopic.html?topic=618952&amp;forum=42">Beta patch notes for the 1.69 patch</a> are available on the official forums. Though this is hardly news for the vibrant community still playing this game, it's worth noting the passage of one of BioWare's landmark titles. <br /><br />Read on for more on the BioWare Live team - including a lesson in why you should never post to forums angry.<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/02/22/gdc08-biowares-last-neverwinter-nights-patch-live-team-explai/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>GDC08: BioWare's last Neverwinter Nights patch, live team explained</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/02/22/gdc08-biowares-last-neverwinter-nights-patch-live-team-explai/">GDC08: BioWare's last Neverwinter Nights patch, live team explained</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Fri, 22 Feb 2008 21:00:00 EST. Atari may have a <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/01/31/former-ea-exec-david-gardner-becomes-ceo-of-infogrames/">new head honcho</a> ready to turn the company's <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/01/17/infogrames-CEO-outlines-recovery-plans-for-company-and-atari/">staggering misfortune around</a>, but it ain't gonna happen overnight. Atari stated in its Q3 report that if it wasn't for the $3.7 million restructuring charge it would have posted a net income of $3.4 million this quarter. It's nice that the company "would have" made some income, but the simple fact is Atari has a net loss of $20 million for its first three quarters.<br />
<br />
But enough about the never-ending joke of Atari's financials, <a href="http://www.eurogamer.net/article.php?article_id=92675">Eurogamer</a> dug up some game information. Ignoring the scheduling mess which is <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/AloneintheDark/">Alone in the Dark</a></em>, there are currently plans for another <em>Neverwinter Nights 2</em> expansion, something called <em>Airborne Rangers</em>, and numerous other titles -- although we're sure everyone is super excited for <em>My Horse &amp; Me 2</em>. Atari says it will be announcing more titles in the coming weeks "one by one." Atari's fiscal year ends in March, so expect the devastating financial results a few months later.<br />

What pressure?<br />
<br />
FiringSquad talked to Urquhart about all this, as well as <em>NWN2</em>'s toolset and DM client, why we probably won't see a demo, and Obsidian's deal with Sega to create an original RPG franchise. There are a bunch of new <em>NWN2</em> screens too.<br />
