Dark Souls collector's edition running into retailer issues

After some were upset that Namco Bandai changed the contents of the Dark Souls collector's edition, now it looks like many fans won't be getting the collector's edition at all. Co-optimus reports that online retailer Newegg didn't receive any copies of the collector's edition at all, while it appears that Best Buy's supply isn't enough to satisfy all pre-orders.

To rectify the situation, Newegg will be offering $20 gift cards to all those who pre-ordered the game, while Best Buy will offer $20 cards for anyone who doesn't receive their collector's edition as expected. Kind of a bummer, to be sure, but as Co-optimus points out, twenty bucks is almost enough to buy the full, printed Dark Souls guide, which features more content than the digital mini-guide included with the collector's edition.

The art book, however, can't be replaced, which is unfortunate because there really are some spectacular designs in the game.

Thrifty Nerd crams yet a few more gaming deals into 2010

Newegg is currently offering The House of the Dead 2 & 3 Return for the ridiculously low sum of $12.99. With free shipping. Honestly, we're not sure how to fill the rest of this post with more relevant information. You get two House of the Dead games, both of them brimming with zombies just itching to be blown apart, for $12.99. That's about as much as a disgusting chicken sandwich and a terrible bottle of wine to wash it down with. You don't want those things, do you? Of course not. Get the game.

Better get it fast though, because it's bound to sell out quickly at this price.

Official Xbox 360 USB drives priced by GameStop

GameStop has leaked information about those official Xbox 360 USB hard drives we've heard about (first rumored and then officially), and they ain't cheap. According to the confusingly similar GameSpot (who saw the prices temporarily listed on GameStop's website), there will be both 8GB and 16GB drives available, the smaller for $39.99 and the larger for $69.99. According to Major Nelson, we'll see them in stores in May.

Of course, the system update will also allow you to use any USB drive (not just the official Xbox-branded ones), but before you get visions of 1TB of storage plugged into your Xbox, remember that there's a 16GB limit on each of two possible devices, so you can have only 32GB total. Fortunately, an unofficial 16GB flash drive is about half of Microsoft's price over on Newegg. You may have to tweak things a little bit, as the official drives are meant to be "plug and play," but it can't be that complicated. The GameStop listing is down for now, but we'll see these drives officially in just over a month or so anyway.

MadWorld for an insanely low $10

Look, we don't like giving out ultimatums here; people are free to do what they want and we wouldn't dare dream of interfering. But we feel like we just can't go on if you don't own a copy of Platinum Games' MadWorld -- or have at least played it -- at this point in time.

We're not gonna lie to you -- we were initially tempted to write this post in full-on mid-'90s late night TV ad format, but we instead chose restraint in telling people about the BioShock 2 sale going on over at Newegg. For just $49, you can snag a copy of the (at least somewhat) critically acclaimed return to Rapture on either Xbox 360 or PlayStation 3 over the 72 hours that Newegg's sale takes place (just under 60 left as of this writing).

If the recently detailed DLC wasn't enough to entice you to dive in to BioShock's sequel, maybe $11 off the asking price will do it, eh? (Because a man finds sweet sales, a slave buys at full price ... or something.)

Thanks to Newegg, you can grab 50 Cent: Blood on the Sand for a price closer than ever to 50 cents. As part of a "blowout" sale, you can pick up 50 for $9.99 on Xbox 360, or $12.99 on PS3 (a paltry 300 Cent more) with free shipping. If that's not the particular style of bullet-ridden gameplay you seek, why not grab Metal Slug 7 on DS for just $9? Or incite real violence in your home with Singstar -- available on its own for $10, or with two microphones for $25, with Volume 2 also down to $10.

Many of the other deals are questionable, but they're also cheap. Maybe you didn't care about Beowulf on PSP, but you probably care a little more now that it's $4. And $14 is a much more reasonable price for the chance to enjoy Castlevania Judgment's brutally insane cutscenes and actually kind of enjoyable gameplay. Snag Darksiders for $40 at Newegg

If you've been waiting for a good reason to pick up Darksiders on your Xbox 360, we might just have one. Newegg is currently selling the game for a cool $39.99, a full $20 off the standard $59.99 price. The $40 price includes shipping, too, so it's really a pretty significant savings. For what it's worth, we enjoyed the game quite a bit, despite its flaws. A $40 price point could only make it better, right?

Says Justin McElroy, who reviewed the game for Joystiq, "You're crazier than Jeff Zucker if you don't buy Darksiders for $40 /topical." So there you go.

The Conduit on sale for $12 at NewEgg

Given that The Conduit was neither a commercial nor critical success, you may have passed on the once hyped shooter from High Voltage. NewEgg looks to be clearing out some end-of-year inventory and those boxes of The Conduit have got to go! For a mere $12 (shipping's free), the game's yours and, while not the best bang for your buck, the bargain buy could be justified in so much as The Conduit represents a valiant, if flawed effort to build a sound FPS for Wii hardware. Or, maybe you're just looking for a cheap gift for your little bro. Bingo, this is it.

If you like film grain effects, shooting zombies, and getting cursed at, but you haven't picked up The House of the Dead: Overkill yet, this deal from Newegg is exactly what you've been waiting for. The online retailer has marked the game down to $12.99 (with free shipping).

Be warned, there really is a lot of cursing. Even the first 15 minutes of the game sounds like someone stepped on Samuel L. Jackson's foot. That's what that M rating is about. Well, that and all the disgusting dead people exploding and stuff.

Reliable online retailer Newegg.com is having a 48-hour sale wherein "recertified" Xbox 360 Elites are available for $260. That's $140 dollars off the regular price! For those of you hesitant about that word being attached to the special, Newegg defines "recertified" as "products which have been retested to ensure compliance with original manufacturer specifications in function and for purposes related to warranty." Think of it as the game console equivalent of a "previously owned" car.

We should note that with mumblings of the Pro becoming extinct, the normally $400 Elite may take a price tumble soon. Just something to think about.

Newegg is currently offering copies of Namco Bandai's food-themed adventure The Munchables for just $16.99, with free shipping. This seems like a rather sudden and drastic price drop, the kind that might be a mistake, so don't tarry if you're thinking of picking it up.

The Munchables has actually been getting reasonably good (if not glowing) reviews, so at this low price, it might be worth a look. That is, of course, only if you have a high tolerance for weirdness. This is a game in which all the enemies are vegetables, after all, and you fight by eating them. Don't pick this up if the majority of your games are about World War II or something.
