Keen with desire to own a golden Nunchuk to match the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/08/29/zelda-skyward-sword-bundle/">golden Wii Remote</a> released for <a href="http://joystiq.com/game/the-legend-of-zelda-skyward-sword"><em>The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword</em></a>? Well, you can't get an <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/12/14/get-a-golden-nunchuck-to-go-with-your-golden-wiimote-from-japan/">official golden Nunchuk</a> outside of Japan's Club Nintendo, but that can't stop you from making your own.<br />
<br />
Enter <a href="http://www.reddit.com/r/gaming/comments/oa3d0/i_painted_my_wii_nunchuk_today/">Reddit</a> user alycenwonderland, who crafted a very slick custom Nunchuk that, dare we say it, looks even better than the official peripheral. Of course, should you decide to make one yourself, it will likely take hours of monotonous work before you can reap the sweet payoff -- not unlike the latest <em>Zelda</em>.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/01/11/homemade-golden-nunchuk-is-a-real-treasure/">Homemade golden Nunchuk is a real treasure</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 11 Jan 2012 02:00:00 EST. Was it something <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/04/13/nintendo-wins-appeal-in-anascape-suit/">we said</a>? No sooner does Nintendo close the book on the two-year-old <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/04/13/nintendo-wins-appeal-in-anascape-suit/">Anascape suit</a> than does the prolific peripheral manufacturer get slapped with another legal challenge. <a href="http://www.gamasutra.com/view/news/28080/Nintendo_Sued_By_Interactive_Exercise_Company.php?utm_source=feedburner&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Feed%3A+GamasutraNews+%28Gamasutra+News%29">Gamasutra</a> has obtained documentation of a lawsuit filed against Nintendo, on April 2, by exergaming company InterAction Laboratories, a.k.a. IA Labs, a.k.a. Powergrid Fitness, for alleged patent infringement.<br />
<br />
In typical dramatic legalese, the suit cries out that IA Labs has been "irreparably harmed" by Nintendo's violation of two of its patents through a long list of Wii products. Here goes: the Wii system itself and its primary controllers, the Wiimote and the Nunchuk, and the MotionPlus add-on; <em>Wii Fit,</em> its expansion pack, <em>Wii Fit Plus,</em> and its peripheral, the Balance Board; and the Wii Zapper. <em>Phew!</em> Are we forgetting anything?<br />
<br />
Oh, yes -- the Wii Wheel. Uh-huh, that <a href="http://nintendo.joystiq.com/2008/04/22/reinventing-the-wii-wheel/"><em>circular piece of plastic</em></a> is allegedly infringing upon a patent for either (1) "Computer interactive isometric exercise system and method for operatively interconnecting the exercise system to a computer system for use as a peripheral" or (2) "Force measurement system for an isometric exercise device." IA Labs claims that these two patents are used in a number of its products, including the Kilowatt Sport and Exer-Station controller. Both have won an award at separate CES events.<br />
<br />
If you're real up on your Wii peripheral pitches, you will recall the <a href="http://nintendo.joystiq.com/2008/08/20/wii-sqweeze-is-like-a-thighmaster-for-your-hands/">Sqweeze</a>, a ThighMaster-esque device for your hands, developed by IA Labs and introduced in late 2008. While a PC version appears to be <a href="http://www.sqweeze.com/">available</a>, the Wii iteration never made it to market, perhaps evidence that the relationship between IA Labs and Nintendo soured long ago. Documentation from the recent suit reveals emails from 2007-2008 between the two companies, which had once been in talks for IA Labs to license its technology to Nintendo.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/04/14/nintendo-sued-by-exergaming-company-ia-labs/">Nintendo sued by exergaming company IA Labs</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 14 Apr 2010 19:30:00 EST. Capcom's booth had the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/06/04/capcom-bundling-monster-hunter-3-with-black-wii-in-japan/"><em>Monster Hunter 3</em> bundles</a> as part of its <a href="http://www.inside-games.jp/news/359/35920.html"><em>Monster Hunter </em>display</a>, and Nintendo had the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/06/15/exclusive-blue-wiimote-nunchuk-and-motionplus-for-lucky-wii-spo/">blue Wiimote and Nunchuk</a>, of course, to <a href="http://www.inside-games.jp/news/359/35922.html">promote <em>Wii Sports Resort</em></a> -- which, incidentally, was also the inspiration behind a very nice set of <a href="http://www.inside-games.jp/media/screenshot2.php?gameid=89083&amp;image=9">giveaway items</a>.<br /><em><br /></em>The Nunchuk has always been shiny on top and matte on bottom, but it's much more <em>noticeable</em>, and nice-looking, on the black version. Somehow, the Wiimote jacket also looks cool in matte black, despite being a Wiimote jacket. The <a href="http://www.inside-games.jp/media/screenshot2.php?gameid=89079&amp;image=8">Classic Controller Pro</a>, as well, looks like much more of an <em>upgrade</em> in shiny black plastic. Head past the break to see the blue <em>Wii Sports</em> controllers.<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/06/22/black-wii-blue-controllers-on-display-at-world-hobby-fair/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Black Wii, blue controllers on display at World Hobby Fair</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/06/22/black-wii-blue-controllers-on-display-at-world-hobby-fair/">Black Wii, blue controllers on display at World Hobby Fair</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Mon, 22 Jun 2009 13:15:00 EST. If there is one fault we'd have to say most chairs possess nowadays, it's that they're just too darn stationary. Well, they <em>used to be</em>, anyway, as some ingenious gentlemen have come up with a cool chair mod in what they have affectionately dubbed <a href="http://www.minjeongkim.org/makerfaire/TheBeancat.html">The Beancat</a>, a labor of love that incorporates the Wii's Nunchuk controller into a device that not only controls Mario on-screen, but also keeps you from having to get up when you want to grab a drink from the fridge. <br /><br />The chair itself moves a lot faster than we would have imagined, and looks like it isn't the toughest thing in the world to build, though you should know it isn't the cheapest mod in the world should you be on the lookout for some bean bag-infused thrills of your own. Head past the break to check out some video of it in action, and be sure to hit the source link below if you've got the courage to build one of your own.<br /><br />[Via <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2009/06/07/video-wii-nunchuk-controls-motorized-beancat-chair/">Engadget</a>]<br /><p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/06/09/the-beancat-nunchuk-brings-mobility-to-a-bean-bag-chair/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>The Beancat: Nunchuk brings mobility to a bean bag chair</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/06/09/the-beancat-nunchuk-brings-mobility-to-a-bean-bag-chair/">The Beancat: Nunchuk brings mobility to a bean bag chair</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 09 Jun 2009 02:00:00 EST. Well, it's been quite some time since we last touched on 505 Games' <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/12/20/get-your-ravi-on-with-we-rock-drum-king/"><span style="font-style: italic;">We Rock: Drum King</span></a>. The game seems to have spent a majority of its time in the shadows working toward a deal with Rolling Stone magazine, as the music mag and 505 Games just dropped press releases into our inbox introducing <span style="font-style: italic;">Rolling Stone: Drum King</span>. Looks like somebody's been staying awake in their Synergy 101 class!<br /><br />The game is planned for a spring release, and still tasks players with keeping smooth timing by mimicking drumming through use of the Wiimote and Nunchuk. Happy Tiny Wii Controllers Day! We're celebrating the first TWCD by posting ... tiny Wii controllers! Either that or it's a total coincidence that two news items about <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/02/05/make-a-tiny-working-wiimote-in-seven-ridiculously-difficult-ste/">tiny Wii controllers</a> have shown up today. We prefer the explanation that makes today a holiday.<br /><br />Logic3's Nunchuk Mini, also called "Funchuks" in the press release, are basically smaller Nunchuks in a bunch of different colors, all with jaunty green analog sticks. Despite the fact that they cost <em>exactly</em> as much as Nintendo's official Nunchuk but lack Nintendo's reputation for quality, we find these things <em>enchanting.</em> They're <em>small</em>, you see. We want to buy all of them and use a different one every day. <br /><br />[Via <a href="http://kotaku.com/5147149/colorful-nunchuks-hit-wii">Kotaku</a>]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/02/05/funchuks-theyre-more-fun-than-regular-nunchuks-because-theyre/">Funchuks: they're more fun than regular Nunchuks because they're colorful</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 05 Feb 2009 18:00:00 EST. Nintendo <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/06/13/nintendo-sues-nyko-over-kama-wireless-nunchuck/">filed suit </a>against the peripherals manufacturer back in June, claiming that the Kama imitated Nintendo's own Nunchuk too closely in form and shape.<br /><br />As part of the settlement agreement, Nyko will be allowed to continue selling the Kama, but in a redesigned form. Even before this announcement, Nyko changed the shape of the Kama to this weird ridged thing. Nyko will show a wired Kama controller and <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/11/11/wii-fanboy-hands-on-with-the-nyko-wing-controller/">Wing Classic Controller</a> at the <a href="http://www.nyko.com/nyko/news/?c=65&amp;i=558">2009 CES</a>.<br /><br />"We are pleased to have resolved this dispute," NOA's Reggie Fils-Aime said in the <em>very</em> short press release announcing the settlement. "The Nunchuk and Wii brands are familiar to consumers worldwide, and Nintendo is dedicated to vigorous defense of those brands."<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/12/17/nintendo-and-nyko-settle-nunchuk-dispute-peacefully/">Nintendo and Nyko settle Nunchuk dispute peacefully</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 17 Dec 2008 13:35:00 EST. <br />A Go Nintendo reader spotted this on the shelves of his local Target: a "Multi-Player Controller Set" containing a <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/09/10/mod-that-5-of-our-favorite-wiimotes/">Wii Remote</a>, a <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/07/22/start-bulking-up-your-wiimote-early/">Nunchuk</a>, and a <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/reinventing-the-wii-wheel/765276/">Wii Wheel</a>. This kind of thing obviously makes sense to Nintendo as Christmas approaches (the season where Wii excels, <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/11/07/wii-is-most-expensive-board-game-on-earth/">some would say</a>), and we could really get behind the idea of a good value bundle of second/third/fourth peripherals (still need a fourth Wiimote and Nunchuk at Casa de Greenhough!). <br /><br />It's just a shame that the price is such a sham: $74.99?! All three of these peripherals are available separately at Amazon for a total of $63.91 (which qualifies for free shipping), but here's the real laugh: you can buy an individual Wiimote, Nunchuk, and Wii Wheel for $74.97 at <em>Target itself</em>. D'oh! Knock at least fifteen bones off this and you've got our attention.<br /><br /><br />[Thanks, Sonic_13!]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/11/12/nice-idea-terrible-value-the-multiplayer-controller-set/">Nice idea, terrible value: the Multiplayer Controller Set</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 12 Nov 2008 17:21:00 EST. <p>Game controllers have come a long way since we were holding a box with a protruding stick and tapping a single button. Now they're so packed full of cutting edge (yet inexpensive) tech, I'd half expect to see a Wii Remote and Nunchuk in the cockpit of the space shuttle* as a cost-cutting measure. As advanced as the Wiimote is, a lot of us have found a thing or two that could be revised about its design. I've gone to the most extreme reaches of my imagination, and come up with a design concept that I believe is about as radical a step beyond our current Wiimote, as that controller is beyond every console controller that came before it. And just like Nintendo's own design, my perfect controller would be based around technology that is already being used today in different applications.<br /><br />*Warning: The Wii Remote and Nunchuk's accelerometers will not work in space. NASA engineers, be advised to wait for the MotionPlus.</p><p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/09/25/revolutionary-the-perfect-controller-part-2/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Revolutionary: The Perfect Controller, part 2</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/09/25/revolutionary-the-perfect-controller-part-2/">Revolutionary: The Perfect Controller, part 2</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 25 Sep 2008 10:52:00 EST. For those of you who've been tracking <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/quantum-of-solace"><em>Quantum of Solace</em></a> over at The Stiq, you know that most of the worthwhile things to discuss about the game have come from the Xbox 360 and PS3 versions. Well, it would appear that <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/activision">Activision</a> isn't leaving Wii owners out to dry, as some cool features are being utilized in the Wii version of the title. <br /><br />For one, there will be multiple control schemes. Gamers can use the tried-and-true Wiimote and <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/nunchuk">Nunchuk</a> setup, or they can bust out their Zapper and play with that. On top of that, Activision has also confirmed the game will feature online multiplayer, as well as 4-player split-screen local multiplayer, which is exclusive to the Wii installment.<br /><br />Activision is also hard at work to make sure the game is no graphical slouch. Seeing as how the engine behind the game is the same used in <em>Call of Duty 4</em>, we're sure <em>Quantum of Solace</em> will have some lovely visuals.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/08/24/quantum-of-solace-has-zapper-support-online-multiplayer/">Quantum of Solace has Zapper support, online multiplayer</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Sun, 24 Aug 2008 13:30:00 EST. How much do you hate the cord tethering your Wiimote to your Nunchuk? Do you have about ten dollars' worth of hate within you? If so, you're in luck: <a href="http://www.amazon.com/Wii-Nunchuk-Cord-Wireless-Adaptor-Nintendo/dp/B0013LWEJ0/ref=pd_bbs_sr_1?ie=UTF8&amp;s=videogames&amp;qid=1219081522&amp;sr=8-1">Amazon</a> and <a href="http://www.gamestop.com/Catalog/ProductDetails.aspx?product_id=69079">GameStop</a> (that we've found so far) have cut the price of Nyko's Cord-Free Wireless Adapter in half, to a mere $9.99. That's not a lot to pay for something that makes your Nunchuk both cord-free <em>and</em> wireless.<br /><br />When we <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/03/12/wii-fanboy-review-nykos-wireless-nunchuk-adapter/">tested this device</a>, we found it to be <em>exactly</em> what is advertised: a way to make your Nunchuk wireless. The only issues at the time were with the price and the battery consumption. Now half of one problem has been taken care of! <br /><br />

Do you yearn for that extra inch that could give you the edge over others? Do you want increased size <em>right now</em>?<br /><br />Well, good news: you don't have to wait for <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/07/14/wiimotionplus-puts-better-control-in-your-motion-control/">Wii MotionPlus</a>'s <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/07/15/e308-wii-sports-resort-announced/">Spring 2009 launch</a> for a chance to elongate your Wii Remote. The makers (it's not specified who) of this new wireless Nunchuk are happy for you to get adding to Nintendo's wand <em>right now</em>. Available from today at China-based outlet Divineo, this 'chuk comes with a tiny wireless receiver that plugs into the bottom of your Wiimote -- very much like the Nyko Kama model which we <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/05/07/wii-fanboy-hands-on-nyko-kama-wireless-nunchuk/">reviewed</a> earlier this year.<br /><br />At $24.95, this is ten bucks cheaper than Nyko's effort, or you could buy five for $21 apiece and, um, give us the spare? <p>This week I wanted to take on scripting for an indie game, and one that came in high regard was <em><a href="https://typo3.digipen.edu/index.php?id=986" target="_blank">Synaesthete</a></em>. I didn't know much about it when I first tried it out, except that it was a cross-breed of rhythm games and action shooters, and I was hopeful that it would lend itself to the Wii experience as well as the last <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/03/11/revolutionary-a-musical-revolution/">rhythm hybrid</a> I tried out. One level was all it took to start the script-writing cogs turning in my head, and after much experimentation, I wound up with a script that dynamically changes what makes this brilliant game so fun to play. <br /></p>
<p>At first, nothing about <em>Synaesthete</em> makes it scream out that it was <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/category/born-for-wii/">born for Wii</a>, but ultimately, the addition of Wii controls has made this game my new addiction. I truly believe that a Wii port of this title would be hailed as the "next big thing."<br /></p><p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/07/02/revolutionary-synaesthetic/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Revolutionary: Synaesthetic</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/07/02/revolutionary-synaesthetic/">Revolutionary: Synaesthetic</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 02 Jul 2008 15:30:00 EST. A fresh take on Waggletech(R) as <em>Alone in the Dark</em> for Wii developer, Hydravision Entertainment, proves its penchant for virtual charades in this new trailer. Seriously, the "flasher" maneuver? Brilliant! Who knew the Wiimote and Nunchuk could be used to mimic the parting of a trench coat? Still, there's nothing quite as <em>immersifying</em> as the overhand bludgeon. Classic.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/06/13/alone-in-the-dark-with-wiimote-and-nunchuk/">Alone in the Dark with Wiimote and Nunchuk</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Fri, 13 Jun 2008 15:00:00 EST. That <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/05/07/wii-fanboy-hands-on-nyko-kama-wireless-nunchuk/">Kama Wireless Nunchuck</a> we're <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/06/12/fanswag-death-jr-and-a-nyko-kama-wireless-nunchuk/">giving away</a> may become something of a collector's item in the near future. Nintendo has sued Nyko, manufacturer of the device, claiming that the Kama violates Nintendo's patents for the original <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/Nunchuk/">Nunchuk</a>, imitating the controller in "novel shape, design, overall appearance and even the color and materials used in the Nintendo Nunchuk controller."<br /><br />Nyko spokesperson C.C. Swiney told Bloomberg that they do not believe that they have violated Nintendo's patents with the Kama, but that they are "still examining this." We've had a look at both controllers ourselves, and we think they're actually pretty different. If you look closely at the Nintendo Nunchuk, you can see that it has a <em>cord</em> coming out of it.<br /><br />Could Nintendo have their own wireless Nunchuk on the way? Or have they decided to start cracking down on third-party controllers <em>now</em> after over 20 years for some <em>other</em> reason? Is the Kama really <em>that</em> similar to the Nunchuk? <br /><br />[Via <a href="http://kotaku.com/5016069/nykos-wireless-nunchuk-attracts-nintendo-lawsuit">Kotaku</a>]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/06/13/nintendo-sues-nyko-over-kama-wireless-nunchuck/">Nintendo sues Nyko over Kama Wireless Nunchuck</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Fri, 13 Jun 2008 10:15:00 EST. We all know how <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/10/22/hong-kong-raid-success/">piracy is very bad</a> for the gaming industry. But, this is a first for us. it seems those filthy pirates are <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/08/08/pirates-cut-costs-on-wii-labeled-gc-games-with-compilation-discs/">not only counterfeiting discs</a>, but also creating knock-off hardware, as evidenced by the fake <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/wiimote">Wiimote</a> and <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/nunchuk">nunchuk</a> you see above. Thankfully, site YYJoy has done a lot of hard work to make sure you aren't one of the folks unlucky enough to buy one of these.<br /><br />Not only do they compare the <a href="http://www.yyjoy.com/html/10/n-327810.html">quality of construction</a> between Nintendo's official first-party hardware, but they also do a thorough <a href="http://www.yyjoy.com/html/74/n-318274.html">inspection of the packaging</a>, providing us with tips on how to spot these knock-offs on the shelf.<br /><br />[Thanks, Deevo!]<br /><br /><a href="http://www.yyjoy.com/html/74/n-318274.html">Source</a> - Packaging and plastic comparison<br /><a href="http://www.yyjoy.com/html/10/n-327810.html">Source</a> - Pirated Wiimote internal guts<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/06/09/pirates-come-up-with-their-own-wiimote-nunchuk/">Pirates come up with their own Wiimote, nunchuk</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Mon, 09 Jun 2008 13:15:00 EST. <br />As if Korean Wii gamers weren't lucky enough, what with all the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/04/22/straps-and-stands-more-preorder-bonuses-in-korea/">preorder</a> <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/04/16/capcom-gives-koreans-pearl-necklaces-and-mousepads/#comments">incentives</a> publishers have been handing out over there, apparently, shops in the East Asian country are selling Wii remotes, nunchuks, and Classic Controllers at <em>hella</em> cheap prices.<br /><br />Blogger Nuck Rumas shot the photo above of a Korean Lotte Mart's Wii shelf, and, in addition to the Wii system's foreign packaging, you can see some surprisingly low-priced accessories. Wii remotes are marked at ?28,000 (approx. $27) -- compare that to the $40 stores usually charge in the U.S. Of course, compared to Wii remote prices in several other territories, $40 is a bargain, too:<br />
<ul>
    <li>Japan: &yen;3,800 (approx. $36)</li>
    <li>Canada: $44.99 (approx. $44)</li>
    <li>Australia: $69.95 (approx. $67)</li>
    <li>New Zealand: $99.95 (approx. $76)</li>
    <li>Europe: &euro;39 (approx. $61)</li>
    <li>UK: &pound;29.99 (approx. $59)</li>
</ul>
Also, <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/classic-controller">Classic Controllers</a> and <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/nunchuk">nunchuks</a> in Korea both sell for ?15,000 (approx. $15), compared to the $20 U.S. retailers ask for them. That might not sound like much of a difference, but keep in mind that shops in Korea don't charge an extra sales tax at the register. It all adds up!<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/06/08/koreas-wii-controllers-are-a-steal/">Korea's Wii controllers are a steal</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Sun, 08 Jun 2008 16:00:00 EST. Much like <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/03/12/wii-fanboy-review-nykos-wireless-nunchuk-adapter/">Nyko's wireless adapter</a>, Brando is offering up their own version, for the same price ($20). Unlike <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/05/07/wii-fanboy-hands-on-nyko-kama-wireless-nunchuk/">the Nyko Kama</a>, this is merely an adapter, which houses the original, wired <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/nunchuk">nunchuk</a> and allows you to wrap up the wires, as pictured. We're not sure how comfortable <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/brando">Brando's</a> option is, but if it's anything like the Nyko adapter, it's a really good option for those that hate wires.<br /><br />Anybody interested in a wireless adapter for their nunchuk? When we received our <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/04/23/a-rainbow-of-nunchuks/">Nyko Kama wireless nunchuk</a>, we thought about what games would be the most appropriate to use the nunchuk with. As such, pretty much all of our games qualified as good candidates, so we went with <em>Super Mario Galaxy, No More Heroes</em> and <em>Wii Sports</em>. How did the Kama stack up against Nintendo's nunchuk? A fairly dreary, rubbish "rainbow," admittedly, but a rainbow of <em>sorts</em>. These 'chuks are all part of Nyko's new Kama range of wireless <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/nunchuk">nunchuks</a>, and are classified as gray, black, pink, and gold (the one on the right, apparently). They also happen to be <em>limited edition</em>, and that's probably why Nyko is happy to charge us $35 per nunchuk, a considerable mark-up on the $20 you'd pay for a standard <em>wired</em> Nunchuck (how pass&eacute;!). The gray ones are <a href="http://www.nyko.com//store/ProductDetail.aspx?i=133">up for sale now</a> (there's 300 of them to go round), and the other colors will follow in the coming days (the black and gold are the rarest, numbering only 150). <br /><br />Nyko <span style="text-decoration: line-through;">already has a wireless nunchuck out on the market</span> previously released a <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/03/12/wii-fanboy-review-nykos-wireless-nunchuk-adapter/">wireless Nunchuck adapter</a>, so we don't doubt that these would also do the job nicely. However, unlike the adapter, this is a standalone wireless Nunchuck. No messy cords to bundle up. But $35 for a peripheral that will clash with our lovely white Wiimotes? We'll pass on this one.<br /><br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/nykos-kama-wireless-nunchuks/">Nyko's Kama wireless nunchuks</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/nykos-kama-wireless-nunchuks/#768266"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/nintendo.joystiq.com/media/2008/04/nunchuk_001_gjfd_nyko_kamo_cg_hkdsd_004_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/nykos-kama-wireless-nunchuks/#768265"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/nintendo.joystiq.com/media/2008/04/nunchuk_001_gjfd_nyko_kamo_cg_hkdsd_003_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/nykos-kama-wireless-nunchuks/#768264"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/nintendo.joystiq.com/media/2008/04/nunchuk_001_gjfd_nyko_kamo_cg_hkdsd_002_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/nykos-kama-wireless-nunchuks/#768263"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/nintendo.joystiq.com/media/2008/04/nunchuk_001_gjfd_nyko_kamo_cg_hkdsd_001_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/nykos-kama-wireless-nunchuks/#768262"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/nintendo.joystiq.com/media/2008/04/nunchuk_001_gjfd_nyko_kamo_cg_hkdsd_005_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><br /><br />[Via <a href="http://www.siliconera.com/2008/04/22/come-and-get-limited-edition-colored-kama-wireless-nunchucks/">Siliconera</a>]<br /><br />[<span style="font-weight: bold;">Update:</span> Update: Corrected a few errors in the article. $35 is the standard price for all of Nyko's Kama wireless nunchucks: the limited edition Kama line of nunchucks cost the same as Nyko's standard Kama Wireless Nunchucks soon to be released.]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/04/23/a-rainbow-of-nunchuks/">A rainbow of Nunchuks [Update]</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 23 Apr 2008 13:30:00 EST. "For those times that you are away from your beloved gaming system, at least you can pretend to be fighting your evil nemesis, Gargamel."<br /><br />Rather than <a href="http://www.cufflinks.com/wicu.html">referencing</a> the <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gargamel">arch-nemesis of the Smurfs</a>, we presume the folks at Cufflinks.com actually meant to say <a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=imlyVV0yYKo">Ganon</a>. Still, we'll forgive them the odd error, because hey, these sterling silver Wiimote cufflinks are pretty much the dapperest accessories we've ever seen for Wii lovers. They're fully reversible thanks to the tiny silver nunchuk on the end, and are just about discreet enough for your next wedding/awards ceremony/court appearance.<br /><br />But before you reach for your wallet, know this: at $150, they're not <em>that</em> much cheaper than a Wii itself.<br /><br />[Via <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2008/04/22/wiimote-cuff-links-an-accelerometer-short-of-greatness/">Engadget</a>]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/04/23/wiimote-cuff-links-for-the-wii-owner-who-has-everything/">Wiimote cufflinks, for the Wii owner who has everything</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 23 Apr 2008 10:30:00 EST. <br />The dearth of top-notch Wii RPGs meant there was a quite a bit riding on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/opoona"><em>Opoona</em></a>, which Koei has just confirmed will be coming to Europe in July.<br /><br />Sadly, some <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/04/01/metareview-opoona/">damning reviews</a> of the game upon its North American release proved to be the thumbtack to our lovely, shiny balloon of hope, but if you absolutely <em>must</em> play an RPG on your Wii (and have some bizarre aversion to purchasing the masterful <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/02/15/vc-friday-vc-phriday/"><em>Phantasy Star II</em></a> from the Virtual Console), then you could probably do worse than Koei's nunchuk-only "lifestyle RPG."<br /><br /><br />[Via press release]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/04/16/europe-to-get-opoona-this-july/">Europe to get Opoona this July</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 16 Apr 2008 12:45:00 EST. We can imagine a million different uses for a robotic camera such as this. Let us list a few:<br />
<ul>
    <li>Finding loose snack chips that fell behind the sofa</li>

Chad Sapieha of the <em>Globe and Mail's</em> Controller Freak blog seems to disagree with that, however. While we have to offer up kudos over the fact that he spread the anti-love around evenly among all three current-generation consoles in his recent post of hate, we still take issue with some of his Wii complaints. <br /><br />His first complaint about the Wii is that it isn't as cheap as it appears. In order to play the best multiplayer games on the system, he says, within the comfort of your home with friends, you have to buy three more controllers and three nunchuks. To support this, he uses the examples of <em>Super Smash Bros. Brawl</em> and <em>Wii Sports</em>. However, you don't need four nunchuks for the latter unless you feel like building a rounded tower, and the only game that even requires four Wii remotes is four-player tennis. As for <em>Brawl</em>, it seems likely to us that most Wii owners who have picked up <em>Brawl</em> have a GameCube controller or two lying around, and since that seems to be the preferred way to play anyway, that certainly cuts down the expense. Next he mentions the required investment of a 4 GB card for "avid downloaders," but we're of the opinion that "avid downloaders" who are strapped for cash might just do what Nintendo recommends, and download, delete, and re-download at need. We're not saying the Wii's storage system is without problem, but a 4 GB card is hardly a <em>must</em>.<br /><br />Sapieha's other complaints strike chords, however, even if one is the most rehashed complaint of all: friend codes. His other issue? The lack of demos for Virtual Console games. While we agree that demos would be awesome, there's no shortage of videos of Virtual Console games available. Not only can you get them on <a href="http://www.nintendo.com/wii/virtualconsole/games">Nintendo's official site</a>, but you can see 'em <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/category/vc-monday-madness/">right here</a>, too. It may not be as good as a demo, but it's better than nothing.<br /><br />The point? If these are the worst things we can find to complain about, Wii owners are doing okay.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/04/09/wii-the-bad-and-the-ugly/">Wii: The bad and the ugly</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 09 Apr 2008 11:15:00 EST. Okay, so probably not, but if you <em>are</em> a bit tired of playing games with your Wii Remote tethered to a nunchuk, then peripheral manufacturer Zappies has a solution for you: its new Nunchuk Wireless Kit.<br /><br />"But Greenhough, you deluded oaf," I hear you cry, "Such a device is already available, thanks to Nyko's very fine <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/12/07/wireless-nunchuk-removes-the-very-last-controller-cord-from-your/">Wireless Nunchuk</a>." You're absolutely correct, dear reader, but here's the thing: according to <a href="http://www.amazon.co.uk/Nyko-Wii-Wireless-Nunchuck/dp/B0016KI58C/ref=sr_1_5?ie=UTF8&amp;s=videogames&amp;qid=1207166074&amp;sr=8-5">Amazon</a>, Nyko's own wireless wonder doesn't release in the UK until May 25th, where it will sell for around &pound;26. Conversely, <a href="http://www.zappies.com/toys/acatalog/diecast.html">Zappies' device</a> is available in Britain (and only Britain) <a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=R795KiMD4zs"><em>right here, right now</em></a> for a more reasonable &pound;20.<br /><br />It works in much the same way as Nyko's model, with a wireless receiver that snaps into the bottom of your Wii Remote, and wireless housing for your Nunchuk and its obtrusive cord. Oh, and you'll get 20 hours from 2 AAA batteries. The only thing it lacks? The Wii Fanboy <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/03/12/wii-fanboy-review-nykos-wireless-nunchuk-adapter/">seal of approval</a>.<br /><br />[Via press release]</div>

In last week's bevy of releases beginning with 'O,' one title stood as a shining beacon of hope ... rather, we shined a beacon of hope on it, crossing our fingers that the quirky <em>Opoona</em> might rise from the ashes of its lackluster Japanese reception as a worthwhile title. Instead, it looks like the nunchuk-controlled RPG is destined for the annals of mediocrity. Alas, poor <em>Opoona</em>, we hardly knew ye.<br /><a href="http://www.gamesradar.com/wii/opoona/review/opoona/a-20080331144112461092/g-20070427161620721052"><br /><strong>Games Radar: 60%</strong></a> -- Ultimately, the tedium seemed to get in the way of the game's best qualities. "The already threadbare plot comes to a grinding halt every time you have to take a 10 minute detour over to the ol' licensing office and get your job level increased. The incredibly inefficient city design is unnecessarily confusing as well, adding even more time to your errands. It's extra frustrating that you have a wireless PDA device that constantly downloads new data and could just as easily receive the job/license info while you're out doing the quests ... Give credit to <em>Opoona</em> for trying to wedge a lot of new ideas into its paper thin premise, but the half baked 'lifestyle' elements can't hide the fact that it's a very simplistic and ultimately uninteresting RPG."<br /><br /><strong><a href="http://www.1up.com/do/reviewPage?cId=3167119&amp;p=44">1UP: 50%</a> </strong>-- Like so many titles, fascinating, but flawed. "Despite its good looks, <em>Opoona</em> really stumbles in its localization. The game's English translation is rough and lifeless, with multiple typos and characters that barely sound different from one another, not to mention out-and-out confusion when NPCs say things like "head to that door" when there are multiple doors in a room -- confusion like that unnecessarily slows down progress.<br /><br /><em>Opoona's</em> heart is undeniably in the right place. As an RPG, it's pretty standard, yet it manages to be just plain comforting thanks to its quirky looks and sounds -- and even its easy one-handed control option. The game only really stresses you out when you're figuring out what job to do next and where to go, but once you clear those barriers -- and don't always expect grandeur -- it's not a bad trip."<br /><br /><strong><em>Nintendo Power</em>: 70% </strong>-- The Nintendo mag found unrealized potential. "While <em>Opoona</em> boasts nice backgrounds and music, and is fundamentally solid, it's definitely rough around the edges ... These flaws, fortunately, don't ruin the game, but don't expect something with a lot of polish."<br />
<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/04/01/metareview-opoona/">Metareview: Opoona</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 01 Apr 2008 12:00:00 EST. When I heard that Nyko was going to <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/01/29/cord-free-wireless-adapter-lets-you-trade-your-cord-for-a-huge-l/">manufacture a wireless adapter</a> for the nunchuk, I was pretty happy. Any chance I can take to eliminate needless wires in my life is something I definitely look to do. So when Nyko said they'd send me a wireless nunchuk adapter for review, I leaped at the opportunity.<br /><br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/nyko-wireless-nunchuk-adapter/">Nyko wireless nunchuk adapter</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/nyko-wireless-nunchuk-adapter/#695347"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/nintendo.joystiq.com/media/2008/03/nyko_nunchuk_adapter_gallery_006_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/nyko-wireless-nunchuk-adapter/#695346"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/nintendo.joystiq.com/media/2008/03/nyko_nunchuk_adapter_gallery_005_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/nyko-wireless-nunchuk-adapter/#695345"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/nintendo.joystiq.com/media/2008/03/nyko_nunchuk_adapter_gallery_004_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/nyko-wireless-nunchuk-adapter/#695344"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/nintendo.joystiq.com/media/2008/03/nyko_nunchuk_adapter_gallery_003_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/nyko-wireless-nunchuk-adapter/#695343"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/nintendo.joystiq.com/media/2008/03/nyko_nunchuk_adapter_gallery_002_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/03/12/wii-fanboy-review-nykos-wireless-nunchuk-adapter/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Wii Fanboy Review: Nyko's wireless nunchuk adapter [update]</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/03/12/wii-fanboy-review-nykos-wireless-nunchuk-adapter/">Wii Fanboy Review: Nyko's wireless nunchuk adapter [update]</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 12 Mar 2008 16:00:00 EST. So, you've had more than 24 hours to play <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/smash-bros-brawl"><em>Brawl</em></a>. You've unlocked several characters, took the fight online and probably spent some time gawking at your trophies. But, the real question lurking in the back of many a fanboy's (and fangirl's) mind is: which control scheme is the best to go with?<br /><br /><p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/03/10/wii-fanboy-poll-best-way-to-play-brawl/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Wii Fanboy poll: Best way to play Brawl?</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/03/10/wii-fanboy-poll-best-way-to-play-brawl/">Wii Fanboy poll: Best way to play Brawl?</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Mon, 10 Mar 2008 15:00:00 EST. Someone really wants to make sure you're not forgetting about poor little <em>Opoona</em>, the nunchuk-controlled RPG set for release later this month. To that end, a sudden burst of <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/01/29/opoona-won-the-battle-easily/">videos</a> seems to have appeared, demonstrating everything from the battles to the futuristic world of the rotund protagonist. And frankly, we're pleased that we're getting to see so much of the title. Let's hope <em>Opoona</em> has a chance out of the gate this time, though with <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/smash-bros-brawl"><em>Super Smash Bros. Brawl</em></a> on the horizon, we're a little worried about every <em>other</em> game releasing this <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/02/07/koei-to-roll-opoona-out-late-march/">month</a> (and maybe next!).<br /><br />Head past the break for a few more tantalizing video snippets.<br /><br />
<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/03/05/oodles-of-opoona/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Oodles of Opoona</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/03/05/oodles-of-opoona/">Oodles of Opoona</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 05 Mar 2008 10:30:00 EST. <font color="red">Update</font>: Apparently, this was some sort of contest regarding homemade Zappers in Chile. You can see <a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/wiichile/collections/72157604042107801/">all of the entrants here</a>.<br /><br />Scotch tape? Newspaper? A combination of both?<br /><br />Hey, we're all for the Zapper mods around here, but we don't like them so much when we have to figure out what they're exactly made of. On top of that, this thing is just ... well, it's ugly. <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/01/21/simple-gun-mod-makes-use-of-scraps/">Other DIY solutions</a> at least had <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/12/03/a-cheap-and-colorful-way-to-make-your-own-zapper/">some semblance</a> of being something <em>you could actually look at</em>. This just looks like a garbled mess of paper, scotch tape and cardboard. We'll give the folks responsible an "A" for effort, though. Anything to save twenty bucks, amirite?<br /><br />If you have a DIY Zapper you created or stumbled upon while surfing the vast ocean of tubes that is the internet, <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tips">drop us a line</a>.
