Sega swag up for grabs this Friday (includes MadWorld, NiGHTS stuff)
Prepare thy selves, Twitter fiends, as @SEGA is giving away goodies as part of its #FreeStuffFriday. The items up for the taking are:
- MadWorld Wii decal set, soundtrack CD and poster signed by the PlatinumGames team.
- OutRun Online Arcade t-shirt (size large) and free game code.
- Bleach Kon plushie and Nintendo DS stylus.
- Nights: Journey of Dreams soundtrack CD sampler, wristband and a SEGA sweet.
- Football Manager "Gameplay > Polygons" t-shirt (size large) and a SEGA lip balm.
- A grow-your-own venus fly trap plant and a SEGA lip balm.
To win the items, Twitter users need to follow @SEGA, which will follow them in return. During Friday, the account will announce the package, along with a "special code phrase." The first follower to direct-message the phrase will win the pack. Sounds simple enough ... unless the "fail whale" shows up.
Xbox Live Top 10: Halo 3 still king of the hill
Folks can't get enough of those Mythic maps, as Halo 3 frags its way to the top of the Xbox Live charts for another week. The siren's song of plasma grenades and billion-dollar cyborgs bested the Nazi zombie-killing antics of Halo nemesis, Call of Duty: World at War.
On the Xbox Live Arcade side, the first and second placeholders from last week have switched, with Hasbro Family Game Night taking the top spot on the charts, and OutRun Online Arcade moving down to the second spot. For the full rundown, hit up Major Nelson's stats.

Xbox Live Top 10: Halo 3 reigns supreme, OutRun races to first
Another week passes and the epic struggle between Call of Duty: World at War and Halo 3 continues. For a second week in a row Halo 3 netted the top slot as the most played Xbox 360 game on Xbox Live -- probably due in part to the public availability of the Mythic Map Pack, released on April 9. On the top played Xbox Live Arcade list OutRun Online Arcade grabbed the top spot while last week's number one, The Dishwasher, dropped to fourth.

Sega: Outrun Online Arcade next week, contest announced

, and the PSN version comes in at £7.99 / €9.99 (the game isn't coming to PSN in the US). We should remind readers that publishers have revealed incorrect release dates for Xbox Live Arcade titles before, but it would certainly make sense for both versions to release during the same week.Sega Europe also announced an Outrun Online Arcade competition, the winner of which will receive a trip to Maranello, Italy, the home of Ferrari. The competition will be a simple race to the finish line with no restrictions on vehicle choice, meaning players can use whatever cars they manage to unlock in the game. The press release even suggests that players choose the easy route offered in the game. A registration page for the competition will launch alongside the game next week.

OutRun Online Arcade shots show new car models

We're going to call this latest batch of screens from Sega's upcoming XBLA release, OutRun Live Arcade, the "See, we really are improving the graphics!" gallery. And it's true -- while the scenery may look like it's simply been up-scaled from the original Xbox release of OutRun 2, it's clear that Sumo Digital isn't using the same car models for this release. They're nice and smooth ... and oh-so-shiny.
Considering the roadside elements go by so fast, we're willing to bet most players won't even notice whether they're HD-ified enough or not. But the cars ... you always focus on the car in OutRun, as it almost supernaturally drifts its way through traffic. Sega: Bring. It. On.

Sega reveals sleek new OutRun Online Arcade footage
As pumped as we are at the prospect of a current-gen rendition of Sega's Outrun series, it's tough to judge the aesthetics of racing games without seeing them in action. Thankfully, some gameplay footage of the XBLA (and European PSN) racer OutRun Online Arcade recently surfaced in a YouTube video (which we've courteously posted after the jump).
It looks about as fun and arcade-y as you'd expect -- realistic physics are suspended in favor of endless drifting, and cars travel at sound barrier-breaking velocities. Also making a reappearance is the series' blonde passenger, who helpfully squawks asinine remarks (such as, "I want to go far away!") as you maneuver through hairpin turns going 280 km/h. Thanks for contributing, you fair-haired freeloader.

Days of Arcade promotion coming to XBLA March 18; Lode Runner, six other titles coming soon
Xbox Live figurehead Major Nelson recently updated his blog with the titillating announcement of a six-week long promotion titled the "Days of Arcade." Similar to last year's "Summer of Arcade" event, the promotion will kick off March 18 with the release of Hasbro Family Game Night, with the following five weeks bringing a number of highly anticipated titles to the Marketplace, including The Dishwasher: Dead Samurai, Flock, Outrun Online Arcade, Puzzle Quest: Galactrix, UNO Rush and Tozai Games' remake of Lode Runner.
Aside from Game Night, we won't know which games are coming which weeks until Major Nelson announces them on the Mondays preceeding their Wednesday releases. However, as the keen-eyed mathmaticians among you have already noticed, with seven titles dropping in six weeks, one XBLA Wednesday will bring us a double dose of downloadable distractions. We've already canceled our Spring Break excursion to Cabo San Lucas in a fit of breathless anticipation.

OutRun exclusive to European PlayStation Store
Inexplicably, Sega's upcoming OutRun Online Arcade downloadable game will no longer see a US release on the PlayStation Store. PS3 owners will now only be able to get their hands on the game by visiting the European PlayStation Store -- strange turn of events, no?
Sega of America hasn't commented on the sudden change of release plans. It's certainly not a big loss, but those that are desparate to get their hands on the game will undoubtedly find a way to make a European PSN account.

Sega confirms Outrun XBLA exclusivity in NA
Sega just crushed the hopes of North American Playstation fans who are interested in Sumo Digital's upcoming Outrun Online Arcade, announcing that the game will not be releasing to the PSN in NA. Instead, Outrun will release exclusively to the Xbox Live Arcade in NA, but Europe will remain unaffected by the exclusivity deal. That said, we have a hunch that hardcore U.S. Outrun'ners on the Playstation will find a way to access the goods. That's what profile region settings are for, right?
OutRun Online Arcade an XBLA exclusive in North America
Thank you for joining us today. We've been informed by CVG that OutRun Online Arcade will not be released on PSN in North America. Please, remain calm and don't flip out like the blond in the passenger seat. Sega Europe informed the site that Europe will receive the title on XBLA and PSN; however, North America will only receive the XBLA version. No explanation was given.
Obviously, we've contacted Sega of America to confirm the information and ask what changed since it announced the title last month.

OutRun Online Arcade coming to PSN in early 2009
Sega has announced that it will be bringing the Out Run series to current-gen consoles. OutRun Online Arcade will be available to download from the PlayStation Network Store in early 2009. The game will feature fifteen tracks for you to "rediscover," so we're assuming they're from previous Out Run games. You'll be racing one of ten cars against up to five other players online.
OutRun Online Arcade will feature an OutRun mode, as well as Heart Attack and Time attack modes. There will also be Trophy support, voice chat and leaderboards. No doubt we'll hear more information about pricing and release date in the new year. In the meantime check out the video after the break and the gallery below.
