A level based on Sega's classic racer will be included with the edition, sold to pre-order customers at launch (in other words, it's a bonus for the first printing, more than it is a "special" edition.)<br /><br />Alongside the <em>OutRun </em>content, the Bonus Edition includes a playable Metal Sonic character and vehicle, and an in-game "Emoticon Sticker Pack." As part of the announcement of this edition, Sega also announced release dates for the PS3, Xbox, and Vita versions: November 20 in North America. The 3DS and PC versions weren't given specific dates, but they're presumably still due in November.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/08/02/sonic-and-all-stars-racing-transformed-into-bonus-edition-with-o/">Sonic &amp; All-Stars Racing Transformed into 'Bonus Edition' with OutRun track, Metal Sonic</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 02 Aug 2012 08:00:00 EST. But what really turns the idea of a driving game on wheels into something magical (that also plays "<a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GQvK1x0A9tQ">Magical Sound Shower</a>") is the software.<br /> <br /> Instead of simply running <em>OutRun </em>as you drive blindly into traffic, Hertz is working on an iPhone 3GS app that uses the iPhone's camera and GPS to detect your position and the shape of the road, and translate that information into a live <em>OutRun</em> track. See the software at work after the break.<br /> <br /> The artist's goals are the "Un-Simulation of Driving" (instead of using a game to simulate driving closely with high-end graphics like Gran Turismo, this will fuse video game-like graphics with real driving), and "GPS Navigation Parallax &amp; Mixed Reality" (using only GPS information to drive). And <em>not</em> "Making Something That Is Going To Get Someone Killed", which is why, when this does become a reality, it'll be limited to "controlled environments."<br /> <br /> [Via <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2009/11/12/ferrari-styled-outrun-arcade-machine-set-for-crazy-scooter-trans/">Engadget</a>, <a href="http://www.gamesetwatch.com/2009/11/outrun_project_transforms_arca.php#more">GameSetWatch</a>]<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/11/12/artist-plans-to-turn-outrun-machine-into-real-car/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Artist plans to turn OutRun machine into real car</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/11/12/artist-plans-to-turn-outrun-machine-into-real-car/">Artist plans to turn OutRun machine into real car</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 12 Nov 2009 12:10:00 EST. Racing fanatics will get their fix this Wednesday when Sega releases <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/outrun-online-arcade/"><em>Outrun Online Arcade</em></a> on XBLA. Featuring 15 different courses, 10 different Ferraris to drive and support for online multiplayer, <em>Outrun Online Arcade </em>will set you back a cool 800<img border="0" alt="" src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.xbox360fanboy.com/media/2007/11/microsoftpointslogosmall.gif" /> ($10) worldwide (excluding Japan). Sega has announced that <a href="http://joystiq.com/tag/outrun-online-arcade"><em>Outrun Online Arcade</em></a> will be landing on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/XBLA/">XBLA</a> and the European <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/PSN/">PSN</a> next week, on April 15 and 16, respectively. The XBLA version will be available for a decent 800<img alt="" src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.xbox360fanboy.com/media/2007/11/microsoftpointslogosmall.gif" />, and the PSN version comes in at &pound;7.99 / &euro;9.99 (the game <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/01/20/outrun-online-arcade-an-xbla-exclusive-in-north-america/">isn't coming to PSN in the US</a>). We should remind readers that publishers have revealed incorrect release dates for Xbox Live Arcade titles before, but it would certainly make sense for both versions to release during the same week.<br /><br />Sega Europe also announced an <em>Outrun Online Arcade </em>competition, the winner of which will receive a trip to Maranello, Italy, the home of Ferrari. The competition will be a simple race to the finish line with no restrictions on vehicle choice, meaning players can use whatever cars they manage to unlock in the game. The press release even suggests that players choose the easy route offered in the game. A registration page for the competition will launch alongside the game next week.<br />
<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/04/09/sega-outrun-online-arcade-next-week-contest-announced/">Sega: Outrun Online Arcade next week, contest announced</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 09 Apr 2009 17:00:00 EST. As pumped as we are at the prospect of a current-gen rendition of Sega's <em>Outrun</em> series, it's tough to judge the aesthetics of racing games without seeing them in action. Thankfully, some gameplay footage of the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/01/20/outrun-online-arcade-an-xbla-exclusive-in-north-america/">XBLA (and European PSN)</a> racer <em>OutRun Online Arcade</em> <a href="http://www.segaonline.nl/blog/2009/03/07/exclusieve-gameplay-beelden-van-outrun-online-arcade/">recently surfaced in a YouTube video</a> (which we've courteously posted after the jump).<br /><br />It looks about as fun and arcade-y as you'd expect -- realistic physics are suspended in favor of endless drifting, and cars travel at sound barrier-breaking velocities. Also making a reappearance is the <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/OutRun">series' blonde passenger</a>, who helpfully squawks asinine remarks (such as, "I want to go far away!") as you maneuver through hairpin turns going 280 km/h. Thanks for contributing, you <em>fair-haired freeloader</em>.<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/03/08/sega-reveals-sleek-new-outrun-online-arcade-footage/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Sega reveals sleek new OutRun Online Arcade footage</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/03/08/sega-reveals-sleek-new-outrun-online-arcade-footage/">Sega reveals sleek new OutRun Online Arcade footage</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Sun, 08 Mar 2009 13:30:00 EST. Inexplicably, Sega's upcoming <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/12/18/outrun-online-arcade-coming-to-psn-in-early-2009/"><em>OutRun Online Arcade</em></a> downloadable game will no longer see a US release on the PlayStation Store. PS3 owners will now only be able to get their hands on the game by visiting the European PlayStation Store -- strange turn of events, no?<br /><br />Sega of America hasn't commented on the sudden change of release plans. It's certainly not a big loss, but those that are desparate to get their hands on the game will undoubtedly find a way to make a European PSN account.<br /><br />[Via <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/01/20/outrun-online-arcade-an-xbla-exclusive-in-north-america/">Joystiq</a>]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/01/21/outrun-exclusive-to-european-playstation-store/">OutRun exclusive to European PlayStation Store</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 21 Jan 2009 19:00:00 EST. Thank you for joining us today. We've been informed by <a href="http://www.computerandvideogames.com/article.php?id=206242">CVG</a> that <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/outrun-online-arcade">OutRun Online Arcade</a></em> will not be released on PSN in North America. Please, remain calm and don't flip out like the blond in the passenger seat. Sega Europe informed the site that Europe will receive the title on XBLA and PSN; however, North America will only receive the XBLA version. No explanation was given.<br /><br />Obviously, we've contacted Sega of America to confirm the information and ask what changed since it <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/12/18/sega-announces-outrun-online-arcade-for-xbla-psn/">announced</a> the title last month.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/01/20/outrun-online-arcade-an-xbla-exclusive-in-north-america/">OutRun Online Arcade an XBLA exclusive in North America</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 20 Jan 2009 17:08:00 EST. Sega has officially announced that it is bringing <em>Outrun Arcade Online</em> to <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/xbla/">Xbox Live Arcade</a>. The game is being developed by Sumo Digital, the team responsible for the recent <a href="http://www.metacritic.com/games/platforms/xbx/outrun2006coast2coast?q=outrun"><em>Outrun 2006: Coast 2 Coast</em></a> (on which <em>Outrun Arcade Online</em> appears to be based). It will be enhanced to include high definition graphics and will feature online play for up to six players. <em>Outrun Arcade Online</em> includes 10 different Ferrari cars and 15 different tracks on which to race them. And, of course, it wouldn't be <em>Outrun</em> without the music ... and the hot girl in the passenger seat. The game is expected to drop in early 2009. Check out the first screens in the gallery below and the debut trailer after the break.<br /><br />
<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/12/18/sega-announces-outrun-arcade-online-for-early-2009/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Sega announces Outrun Arcade Online for early 2009</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/12/18/sega-announces-outrun-arcade-online-for-early-2009/">Sega announces Outrun Arcade Online for early 2009</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 18 Dec 2008 12:30:00 EST. Although the Aussies already <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/11/18/outrun-online-arcade-rated-by-oflc/">spilled the beans</a> across the information superhighway a month ago, Sega has now officially confirmed <em>OutRun Online Arcade</em> for XBLA and PSN. The game is being developed by UK-based Sumo Digital and will release in early 2009 for a currently unannounced price.<br /><br />The game features 15 courses across the cement lifelines of the US and 10 licensed Ferrari cars. It also supports online racing for six players in three different modes. Go ahead and check out the announcement trailer after the break.<br />

Sega has declined to comment on a new <em>OutRun</em> game <a href="http://www.classification.gov.au/special.html?n=46&amp;p=156&amp;&amp;sMediaFilm=1&amp;sMediaPublications=1&amp;sMediaGames=1&amp;sDateFromM=1&amp;sDateFromY=2008&amp;sDateToM=11&amp;sDateToY=2008&amp;record=231047">rated</a> by Australia's OFLC, reports <a href="http://www.eurogamer.net/article.php?article_id=308025">Eurogamer</a>. <em>OutRun Online Arcade</em> is allegedly a multiplatform game with -- presumably -- online capabilities.<br /><br />That's all we've got. We now await Sega's "official" word on the project and look forward to seeing a blond girl fly out of a crashing car. Fresh off his success placing fourth in Neoflash's Spring Coding Competition, homebrew developer <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/multiple-option">Multiple: Option</a> has followed up his <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/03/20/play-video-game-music-on-a-piano-just-like-the-pros/">Game Melody Oratorio</a></em> software with a second volume, packing ten songs and new features into the virtual piano update.<br /><br />Here's your chance to learn classic melodies from a diverse set of games:<br />
<ul>
    <li><em>Double Dragon</em></li>
    <li><em>Dr. Mario</em></li>
    <li><em>Duck Tales</em> (a woo woo)</li>
    <li><em>Final Fantasy VII</em></li>
    <li><em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/Halo/">Halo</a></em></li>

<em>Game Melody Oratorio Volume 2's</em> new features include an extra piano key (C3), a new Practice Stage with hidden notes, a new Recital Challenge mode, improved flashcart support, and the ability to preview melodies on the song selection screen. We've been drooling over the pictures of The King of Games' "Get Ready" line of t-shirts since <a href="http://www.geekonstun.com/mt/archives/its_a_sega_christmas_miracle_122506.html">2006</a><em>.</em> Now we might have the chance to drool over an actual shirt! The company has announced that they're now selling the <em>gorgeous</em> t-shirts, featuring designs celebrating iconic Sega classics <em>After Burner</em>, <em>OutRun</em>, and <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/04/14/vc-monday-madness-video-wrap-up-4-14-08/"><em>Fantasy Zone</em></a>, worldwide.<br /><br />Unfortunately, shirts of this <em>mindblowing</em> quality come at a premium. KOG is selling the <em>Fantasy Zone </em>and <em>OutRun</em> shirts for 5040 yen ($50) each, and the <em>After Burner</em> design for 5775 yen ($57). <br /><br />On an unrelated note, would anyone like to donate to the "Buy JC a <em>Fantasy Zone </em>shirt" fund? Don't mind the name -- the money goes to feed orphans or something.<br /><br /><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/04/16/get-ready-for-amazing-sega-shirts/">Get Ready for amazing Sega shirts</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 16 Apr 2008 19:00:00 EST. <br />Oh. Em. Gee. Okay, that Start sign looks <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/media/2008/01/oh_god_its_just_beautiful.jpg"><em>awfully familiar</em></a>. And those "left turn" signs? The palm trees? Yep, a <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/media/2008/01/segatennis_021.jpg">closer look</a> confirms it: <em>Sega Superstars Tennis</em> will have <em>an OutRun stage</em>, hopefully with majestic red Ferraris roaring past as you play.<br /><br />For veteran Sega fans such as ourselves, this kind of fan service is <span style="font-style: italic;">irresistible</span>. First the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/12/20/we-just-bought-sega-superstars-tennis-with-our-minds/">Shibuya bus terminal</a>, and now this. The only possible downer? Due to its high resolution, we suspect this screenshot is from the <a href="http://xbox.joystiq.com">Xbox 360</a> or <a href="http://playstation.joystiq.com">PS3</a> versions of the game. That's not to say we <em>won't</em> get an OutRun stage in the Wii version, but please understand, Sega: <span style="font-style: italic;">we need this</span>.<br /><br />Hit the break for a couple more shots of the court.<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/01/17/yessss-sega-superstars-tennis-has-an-outrun-stage/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Yessss! Another Thursday in Japan, another round of lovely digital entertainment. Today is our favourite day of the week -- even more so than Sunday. We put our skates on (not literally, you understand) and got down to our local game dealer for some home cooking, mama. Here's what we picked up, the best of this fine February release day: <br />
<ul>
    <li><em>Cooking Mama </em>(today we've been twirling pizza dough, fiercely whisking eggs, and rolling ham around asparagus spears -- tomorrow, we're going to try some <em>haute cuisine</em>; Wii)</li>
    <li><em>Virtua Fighter 5 </em>(yes, it's just a bit good; PS3)</li>
    <li><em>Out Run 2 Special Tour </em>(back to Japan in time for its 20th anniversary, but only just, and how we've been waiting for another Passing Breeze; PS2)</li>
    <li><em>Jet Impulse </em>(this game is giving us impulses already, but what have the skies done to deserve our ascent?; DS)</li>
    <li><em>Luminous Arc </em>(marvelous strategy from Marvelous; DS)</li>
</ul><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/02/08/japanese-release-day-highlights-02-08-07/">Japanese release day highlights: 02.08.07</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 08 Feb 2007 10:15:00 EST. <ol>
    <li>Print out all the images on this site</li>
    <li>Mount
them on a set of 3x5 index cards</li>
    <li>Quickly flip the pages using your thumb</li>
    <li>Get your girlfriend
to scream obscenities in your ear</li>

Yeah, we know; index cards are hard to find. Kikizo has the first screen shots of what is basically an updated installment of last year's <span style="font-style: italic;">OutRun 2</span> for Xbox.<br />
<br />
In this special edition, the arcade release of <span style="font-style: italic;">OutRun 2 SP</span> has been included along with online play for up to six players. The PS2 and PSP versions will also feature unlockable bonus content when the two systems are connected. Although GameSpot <a href="http://www.gamespot.com/xbox/driving/outrun2006coast2coast/news.html?sid=6140922&amp;mode=recent">reported last month</a> that the Xbox version had been scrapped in favor of a PC release, Kikizo is now confirming that <em>OutRun 2006</em> will in fact appear on Xbox.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2006/01/12/first-outrun-2006-screens/">First OutRun 2006 screens</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 12 Jan 2006 14:20:00 EST. <p>Get ready to hop back into your Ferrari and pull off some mean powerslides with a hot babe at your side. Sega has confirmed that <em>OutRun 2006: Coast 2 Coast</em> for PS2 and PSP will be released in March.</p>
<p>The third outing for Sega's popular racer will feature 30 stages, a revamped mission structure, six-player online competition, and 12 licensed rides from the house of Enzo. No love for Xbox owners this time around, but there will be unlockable content for those who connect the PSP and PS2 versions of the game via USB cable.</p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2005/12/08/sega-outrun-2006-coming-to-ps2-psp/">Sega OutRun 2006 coming to PS2, PSP</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 08 Dec 2005 17:30:00 EST.
