What that something is remains to be seen, as <em>Overkill</em> game director Ulf Andersson only described the collaboration as a "co-operative initiative" between the two companies. We do know that it'll involve both Overkill's <em>Payday: The Heist</em> and Valve's <em>Left 4 Dead</em> - two team-focused four-player co-operative romps (enough hyphens for you?).<br /><br />"We are working on a very cool blend of <em>Payday</em> and <em>Left 4 Dead</em>," Andersson wrote on his company's official site. "I am sure it is so exciting that it will have some players check into the hospital before we are done." Oh, hospital, you say? We see what you're doing there, you crazy Swedes you!<br /><br />Andersson apparently couldn't help himself, and added one more zombie-themed quip. "Keep an eye out for more on this infectious and developing story." We know at least <em>one guy</em> we won't be letting into the safe house.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/05/21/payday-dev-collaborating-with-valve-on-left-4-dead-co-operative/">Payday dev collaborating with Valve on Left 4 Dead 'co-operative initiative'</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Mon, 21 May 2012 09:45:00 EST. Having only released two projects in the last five years, Starbreeze isn't offering many consistent reminders that it still exists. Company president and CEO Mikael Nermark is aiming to change that, and his first two major projects are two games you probably haven't heard of: <em>P13</em> and <em>Cold Mercury</em>.<br /><br />"We're trying to build four independent core teams," Nermark told me in a phone interview earlier today. Beyond the existing teams at Starbreeze, the newly acquired Overkill Software wil serve as one of those four teams. So, four "core teams," four projects. We know Overkill is working on a sequel to last year's <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/payday-the-heist"><em>Payday: The Heist</em></a>, and we know that two other teams are working on <em>P13</em> and <em>Cold Mercury</em> (respectively), but that fourth team is a mystery.<br /><br />Nermark wouldn't budge on new details about <em>Cold Mercury</em>, but he told me that <em>P13</em> is currently "in the middle of production" and "it's going really well." The game is heading to Xbox Live Arcade, PlayStation Network, and PC. Starbreeze <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/09/19/starbreeze-concocting-new-ip-with-film-director/">brought in an outside force</a> to take creative lead on the project: Swedish director Josef Fares.<br /><br />"He's one of the most or maybe the most famous movie directors in Sweden of all time. He's never done a game before, but he's an avid gamer and he loves games. So he actually left the movie industry and this guy is like having one of the top guys - this is the top guy in Sweden making movies. So he's actually working for us full-time," Nermark said. "To Swedes, this is like having a guy like Christopher Nolan working on the game on a daily basis."<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/04/20/starbreezes-p13-headed-to-xbla-psn-and-pc/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Starbreeze's 'P13' headed to XBLA, PSN, and PC</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/04/20/starbreezes-p13-headed-to-xbla-psn-and-pc/">Starbreeze's 'P13' headed to XBLA, PSN, and PC</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Fri, 20 Apr 2012 18:30:00 EST. Pending approval by Starbreeze's shareholders, the move will see Overkill's IP (including <em>Payday</em>) and staff become part of Starbreeze's stable.<br /><br />Beyond the acquisition of IP and staff, Overkill is set to establish a new Starbreeze office based out of Stockholm, Sweden. "Starbreeze has graphical emphasis, and Overkill has total focus on innovative gameplay. Together we form a unique constellation of creative forces," Overkill creative director Ulf Andersson said of the acquisition in a press release.<br /><br />Overkill Software was formed in the ashes of former third-party mega studio Grin Software back in 2009, after it collapsed following several commercially unsuccessful projects. Brothers Bo and Ulf Andersson started Overkill, and it's unclear how their roles will change (if at all) in the new setup. The acquisition - if approved by Starbreeze's shareholders - is set to go into effect in mid-June.<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/04/19/starbreeze-attempting-acquisition-of-payday-the-heist-studio/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Starbreeze attempting acquisition of Payday: The Heist studio</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/04/19/starbreeze-attempting-acquisition-of-payday-the-heist-studio/">Starbreeze attempting acquisition of Payday: The Heist studio</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 19 Apr 2012 10:30:00 EST. The PSN launch of <a href="http://joystiq.com/game/payday-the-heist"><em>Payday: The Heist</em></a> will bring the heat and set it off on October 18 in North America. A European date for PSN has yet to be confirmed. The <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/06/09/payday-the-heist-preview-everybody-be-cool/">high-stakes robbery simulator</a> features six co-op heist situations, with the Slaughter House scenario featured in the clip above.<br />
<br />
According to <a href="http://store.steampowered.com/app/24240/">Steam</a>, the PC version is still due in "October." Remember: if you purchased all the titles in the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/08/05/playstation-network-play-is-a-lot-like-summer-of-arcade-start/">PSN Play</a> promotion, a <em>Payday</em> voucher should be your payoff.<br />

It's just been honored by Guinness World Records as having the most profanity of any game ever. 189 "f**ks". Well, you might want to head to the New York Comic Con, because <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/sega">Sega</a> is bringing them to the show next year.<br /><br />The New York Comic Con takes place February 6-8 at the Jacob Javits Center in New York City. Remember that awesome <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/11/20/house-of-the-dead-overkill-gets-euro-release-date-collectors/">European collector's edition</a> for <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/house-of-the-dead-overkill/"><em>House of the Dead: Overkill</em></a>? Well, those of us in the US are getting a similarly sweet bonus package should we wish to part with the extra dough, however our comic doesn't come in the traditional form. Instead, it's a digital download, according to Amazon. In poking around the net, though, we found that <a href="http://www.gamestop.com/Catalog/ProductDetails.aspx?product_id=72474">Gamestop is offering the comic</a>, but in actual paper form. We're all kinds of confused now!<br /><br />We all know <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/11/24/north-america-also-getting-house-of-the-dead-overkill-bonus/">North America will be getting the collector's edition</a>. However, we're not certain on whether it'll be a paper comic or a download. If it's different for each retailer, we're sad to say that <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/gamestop">Gamestop</a> is in the lead for our pre-order dollar right now. We'd rather have an actual comic we can hold in our hands than one we're forced to read on a computer screen. We're just old school like that.<br /><br />
<br />[Thanks, <a href="http://www.wearebindle.com">Buffalo_AAA</a>!]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/12/10/us-gets-overkill-collectors-edition-with-less-cool-extras/">US gets Overkill collector's edition with less cool extras?</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 10 Dec 2008 15:31:00 EST. <br />Sega will release <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/house-of-the-dead"><em>The House of the Dead: Overkill</em></a> in Europe next February, and there'll be an optional bonus at "selected retailers" for fans who preorder: this rad Collector's Edition. Arriving in a <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/house-of-the-dead-overkill/1174346/full/">fetching minimalist slipcase</a> (loving the authentic <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/08/22/house-of-the-amazing-swag/">scuff marks</a>), this will come bundled with a graphic novel that tells the stories of Agent Washington and Varla Gunns, and the events that lead up to the game.<br /><br />Here's the downside: this sweet package has so far only been announced for PAL regions -- apart from Germany, <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/08/19/madworld-house-of-the-dead-overkill-wont-be-released-in-germa/">obviously</a>. Sucks to be Germany, eh? Hit up our gallery for a closer look at the comic's <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/house-of-the-dead-overkill/1174347/full/">cover</a> and a <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/house-of-the-dead-overkill/1174351/full/">sample page</a>.<br /><br />
<br />[Via press release]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/11/20/house-of-the-dead-overkill-gets-euro-release-date-collectors/">House of the Dead: Overkill gets Euro release date, Collector's Edition</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 20 Nov 2008 12:50:00 EST. <br />Some fresh screens for Sega's upcoming shooter, <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/house-of-the-dead-overkill/"><em>House of the Dead: Overkill</em></a>, have risen from the dead and lurked their way onto the internet. They're pretty much what you'd expect: shots of zombies skulking toward the screen, along with shots of zombies being, uh, well ... <em>shot. </em>We don't know about you, but we're still incredibly excited to play Sega's campy shooter.<br /><br />Click on the image above to see the new screens, or head into the gallery below.<br /><br />
<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/10/30/dodge-the-dead-in-new-overkill-screens/">Dodge the dead in new Overkill screens</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 30 Oct 2008 18:18:00 EST. We don't have to tell you how excited we are for <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/house-of-the-dead-overkill/"><span style="font-style: italic;">House of the Dead: Overkill</span></a>. After <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/08/19/the-house-of-the-dead-overkill-where-the-dead-walk-and-bull/">the game was announced</a>, some details managed to <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/08/25/gc-2008-details-for-house-of-the-dead-overkill-escape/">escape Leipzig</a> and we've been counting down the days ever since. <span id="short_desc">Studio manager, Bradley Crooks</span>, recently talked with G4 about the <span style="font-style: italic;">Grindhouse</span>-influenced game, including some of the game's features. Also, Bradley says he thinks <span style="font-style: italic;">Overkill</span> "might be the first game to feature a live birth. Or, maybe it's a live unbirth." <span style="font-style: italic;">Sounds disgusting</span>! We love it!<br /><br />G4's player is a pain in the neck, so you'll have to head past the break to check out the video.<br /><br />
<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/09/10/g4-takes-a-stroll-through-the-house-of-the-dead/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>G4 takes a stroll through the House of the Dead</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/09/10/g4-takes-a-stroll-through-the-house-of-the-dead/">G4 takes a stroll through the House of the Dead</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 10 Sep 2008 08:59:00 EST. Apparently, one Bradley Crooks, developer at Headstrong Games, revealed to Gamekyo a few details about the upcoming <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/sega">Sega</a> game on every Wii gamers' mind (if it isn't on your brain, then you should get your head checked) during an event at <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/leipzig-08">Leipzig</a>. The list is fairly long, so head past the break, where it's all been organized with helpful bullet points.<br /><br />
<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/08/25/gc-2008-details-for-house-of-the-dead-overkill-escape/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>GC 2008: Details for House of the Dead: Overkill escape Leipzig</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/08/25/gc-2008-details-for-house-of-the-dead-overkill-escape/">GC 2008: Details for House of the Dead: Overkill escape Leipzig</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Mon, 25 Aug 2008 16:35:00 EST. <br />So far, we're <span style="font-style: italic;">loving</span> <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/sega">Sega</a>'s marketing of <span style="font-style: italic;">House of the Dead: Overkill</span>. We thought <span style="font-style: italic;">nothing</span> could top the cracking grindhouse-style trailer released when the game was <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/08/19/the-house-of-the-dead-overkill-where-the-dead-walk-and-bull/">announced</a>, but some of the swag associated with the game comes close.<br /><br />Destructoid's Jim Sterling (and we assume our other esteemed, <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/gc08">Leipzig</a>-attending colleagues in the press) just received the above video cassette box. Inside, Sterling discovered a postcard resembling a VHS tape, and a T-shirt that expands in water. Best of all, he notes how the box has been designed to look damaged and scuffed, so that it looks like the kind of under-the-counter filth that you may have found abandoned on a disused section of railway as a youngster; very subtle, Sega! Blast your way through the break for a couple more shots.<br /><br />
<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/08/22/house-of-the-amazing-swag/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>House of the Amazing Swag</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/08/22/house-of-the-amazing-swag/">House of the Amazing Swag</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Fri, 22 Aug 2008 21:23:00 EST. <br />We all held our breath when <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/sega">Sega</a> announced it had a <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/08/14/sega-has-a-surprise-for-leipzig/">surprise</a> planned for the Leipzig Game Conference. Could it be a fresh <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/07/31/sega-tags-uspto-with-jet-set-radio-trademark/"><span style="font-style: italic;">Jet Set Radio</span></a> game? A <span style="font-style: italic;">Daytona</span> title? Surely not ... <span style="font-style: italic;">Shenmue III</span>? Well, it's none of those, but <span style="font-style: italic;">House of the Dead: Overkill</span> still appears to be <em>awe to the some</em>. Though a competent <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/02/13/help-more-house-of-the-dead-2-and-3-return-screens-are-still-insi/"><span style="font-style: italic;">House of the Dead</span></a> game already exists on the Wii, our toes curled with excitement upon watching the trailer above, with its grindhouse stylings and tongue-in-cheek commentary. <span style="font-style: italic;"></span><br /><br />"They came for brains. You will give them ... <span style="font-style: italic;">bullets</span>."<br /><br /><span style="font-style: italic;">House of the Dead: Overkill</span> is due out next year and, as has been previously mentioned, is being worked on by Headstrong. Hit up our <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/house-of-the-dead-overkill/">gallery</a> for the first screens and some of the best Wii <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/house-of-the-dead-overkill/985672/full/">boxart</a> you'll see this year.<br /><br />
<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/08/19/the-house-of-the-dead-overkill-where-the-dead-walk-and-bull/">The House of the Dead: Overkill -- where the dead walk, and bullets talk</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 19 Aug 2008 10:00:00 EST.
