<a href="http://store.steampowered.com/">Steam's Autumn Sale</a> continues today, with some spectacular sales on <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/limbo">Limbo</a> </em>($2.49), <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/civilization-v"><em>Civilization 5 </em></a>($10.19), the <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/overlord-2/">Overlord</a> </em>complete pack ($4.99) and more. There's also a terrible sale on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/kane--lynch-2-dog-days"><em>Kane &amp; Lynch 2: Dog Days</em></a>, wherein Steam is still asking people to actually pay for it.<br />
<br />
Steam is also offering franchise sales on The Witcher, F.E.A.R., Tom Clancy and, to keep the excitement at manageable levels, Kane &amp; Lynch titles.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/11/26/steam-autumn-sale-limbo-overlord-75-percent-off/">Steam Autumn Sale: Limbo, Overlord 75 percent off</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Sat, 26 Nov 2011 15:30:00 EST. If you've been holding out for the inevitable "Game of the Year Edition" of <em>Mass Effect 2</em> to get the DLC, you'd best look away. As part of the "<a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/12/21/new-years-xblm-sale-discounts-multiple-items-offers-daily-deal/">Countdown to 2011</a>" promotion on Xbox Live, all three of the game's mission add-ons -- "<a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/09/08/mass-effect-2-shadow-broker-dlc-review-required-reading/">Lair of the Shadow Broker</a>," "<a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/06/28/review-mass-effect-2-dlc-overlord/">Overlord</a>" and "<a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/04/07/review-mass-effect-2-kasumi-stolen-memory/">Kasumi - Stolen Memory</a>" -- have been slashed to just 200 Microsoft Points ($2.50) each, for discounts ranging from 64-75 percent off today only.<br />
<br />
But maybe you'd rather spend tonight watching someone in a movie control another person, as if it were a video game? The Zune Marketplace <em>totally</em> has <em>Gamer</em> on sale for 960 points today, as well. Finally!<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/12/28/choice-mass-effect-2-dlc-discounted-on-xbox-live-today/">Choice Mass Effect 2 DLC discounted on Xbox Live today</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 28 Dec 2010 10:20:00 EST. As <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/11/07/rumor-interactive-mass-effect-comic-will-fill-in-players-of-ps3/">rumored</a> over the weekend, <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/mass-effect-2">Mass Effect 2</a></em>'s PlayStation 3 iteration will come packed with "6+ hours of bonus missions" -- rather than being PS3-exclusive bonus content, however, it'll comprise the game's three big expansions: <em>Kasumi: Stolen Memories</em>, <em>Overlord</em>, and <em>Lair of the Shadow Broker</em>. EA corroborated the news this morning by releasing the game's PS3 box art (found in full below the break), which clearly details its contents just inches above Miranda's flowing locks.<br />
<br />
BioWare producer Jesse Houston also took to the company's forums to clear up what exactly will be on the Blu-ray disc (and what will be downloaded). "Of course <em>Mass Effect 2</em> will be included. On top of that, Lair of the Shadow Broker, Project Overlord, Kasumi: Stolen Memory and the Blood Dragon Armour. Also included is, as on Xbox 360 and PC, an access code to the Cerberus Network. This will give you instant access to the same great lineup of Downloadable Content such as Zaeed and Firewalker." <br />
<br />
Furthermore, he confirmed an "interactive comic" will ship with <em>ME2</em> on PS3, cursorily detailing it by saying, "BioWare Edmonton (the group that made <em>Mass Effect 2</em>) teamed up with the fine folks at Dark Horse Comics to create an interactive backstory. While I can't release all the details about this yet, what I can tell you is that we want to create a stunning visual experience that not only tells the core story elements of <em>Mass Effect 1</em>, but also is fully interactive allowing you to be faced with some of the major choices which will have consequences your <em>Mass Effect</em> universe. This interactive comic's initial release will be exclusive to PS3 owners who would be otherwise unable to realize the full effect of choice in the <em>Mass Effect</em> universe and will be included on the Cerberus Network." <br />
<br />
He also -- somewhat ambiguously -- described additional, exclusive DLC for PS3 owners, explaining that, "There will also be some DLC Bundles, such as the Aegis Pack as well as exclusive both Free and Paid DLC for all PlayStation 3 owners such as the Recon Operations Pack." Perhaps in an attempt to calm the seething forum member responses, the post was later edited with the explanation, "While I can't go into details, all of this content is or was available to Xbox/PC owners, but otherwise wouldn't be available to PS3 owners. More details about this will be released later." Though EA/BioWare have yet to give it a price, <a href="http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B002I0J5YW?ie=UTF8&amp;tag=prey0f&amp;linkCode=as2&amp;camp=1789&amp;creative=390957&amp;creativeASIN=B002I0J5YW">retailers</a> are <a href="http://www.gamestop.com/Catalog/ProductDetails.aspx?product_id=83995">currently</a> putting the DLC-packed release at a regular $60.<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/11/09/mass-effect-2-dlc-on-ps3-explained-interactive-comic-confirmed/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Mass Effect 2 DLC on PS3 explained, interactive comic confirmed</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/11/09/mass-effect-2-dlc-on-ps3-explained-interactive-comic-confirmed/">Mass Effect 2 DLC on PS3 explained, interactive comic confirmed</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 09 Nov 2010 12:15:00 EST. It sounds like ... <em>Left 4 Dead</em> and <em>Left 4 Dead 2</em> for $15." <br />
<br />
Steam's Halloween sale is upon us, and you <em>can't hide</em> from these terrifying deals. Actually, we suppose you can, since they're just going to sit there on the site until November 1. The inanimate, inert, pleasant, but also <em>totally spooky</em> deals include <em>Worms: Reloaded</em> and <em>Team Fortress 2</em> for $9.99 each, and the <em>Overlord</em> pack for $7.49.<br />
<br />
With prices this good, the only scary thing is missing out on this sale. Although there are Steam sales all the time, so it's really just slightly inconvenient if you don't get anything this time. Um, boooooooo! On <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/09/30/spend-30-on-xblm-in-oct-get-10-in-ms-points-back/">a quest</a> to spend at least 2400 Microsoft Points before the month is out? When your entire game builds to a final, bombastic mission as in <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/mass-effect-2"><em>Mass Effect 2</em></a>, it's hard for any downloadable content set after that point to not feel like an afterthought, and that's certainly true of the "Overlord" DLC from a structural standpoint. But when even your afterthoughts pack more fun and emotional resonance into a couple of hours than many games manage in their entirety, who's complaining?<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/06/28/review-mass-effect-2-dlc-overlord/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Review: Mass Effect 2 DLC: Overlord</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/06/28/review-mass-effect-2-dlc-overlord/">Review: Mass Effect 2 DLC: Overlord</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Mon, 28 Jun 2010 10:27:00 EST. The <em>Overlord</em> DLC was <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/05/13/new-mass-effect-2-dlc-overlord-welcomed-in-june/">revealed last month</a> and will feature Cmdr. Shepard battling through "five levels set across one story on one planet" -- with a jaunty drive around in the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/03/19/mass-effect-2-firewalker-dlc-coming-march-23/">Hammerhead</a> tank. Entering into battle against the virtual intelligence will cost 560<span class="album_title"><img border="0" src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.xbox360fanboy.com/media/2007/11/microsoftpointslogosmall.gif" alt="" /></span> ($7).<br />
<br />
<strong>Update</strong>: June 15 date also confirmed by EA.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/06/10/mass-effect-2-dlc-overlord-observing-june-15-release/">Mass Effect 2 DLC 'Overlord' observing June 15 arrival</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 10 Jun 2010 17:00:00 EST. <em>Overlord</em>, the next content expansion for <em>Mass Effect 2</em>, was apparently revealed yesterday at Electronic Arts' European showcase event in London. According to <a href="http://www.gamerzines.com/xbox-360/news/mass-effect-2-overlord-dlc.html">Gamerzines</a>, ME2 director Casey Hudson described the DLC as "five levels set across one story on one planet," with players battling through a laboratory (and occasionally piloting the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/03/19/mass-effect-2-firewalker-dlc-coming-march-23/">Hammerhead</a> tank) to defeat an artificial intelligence. There is currently no price nor official release date.<br />
<br />
Hudson also announced that no new squad mates would be added in the DLC, nor would there be in any future DLC. We'll be sure to update as soon as EA makes a formal announcement with more details.<br />
<br />
<strong>Update</strong>: The official <em><a href="http://masseffect.bioware.com/info/dlc/">Mass Effect 2</a></em><a href="http://masseffect.bioware.com/info/dlc/"> website</a> has posted a more detailed description of the scenario (reproduced after the break), along with the price: 560 MS/BioWare points ($7).<br />

What are the differences and limitations of writing for one platform over another?<br /></strong><br />It was mainly a question of age ratings. I'm sorry it's not more of an exciting answer. The Wii and DS, <span style="font-style: italic;">Dark Legend</span> and <span style="font-style: italic;">Minions,</span> were aiming for a lower rating than <span style="font-style: italic;">Overlord II</span>, so there were certain things that I couldn't talk about in the scripts -- mainly to do with excessive violence and debauchery. You know, all the really fun stuff. <br /><br />You can certainly get away with more by taking a comedic angle, but games ratings are actually pretty stringent. I don't think it impacted too much on the <span style="font-style: italic;">Overlord</span> feel, although it was a shame to lose things like drunken minions and mistresses. Okay, in <span style="font-style: italic;">Dark Legend</span> the lead character is only 16, so a harem might have been rather wishful thinking.<br /><br />There was a definite need for economy of language when it came to the DS, which was a little more restrictive. Condensing a loquacious character like Gnarl was quite a challenge. Other than that it was really just trying to capture the right <span style="font-style: italic;">Overlord</span> tone.<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/07/27/interview-rhianna-pratchett/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Interview: Rhianna Pratchett</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/07/27/interview-rhianna-pratchett/">Interview: Rhianna Pratchett</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Mon, 27 Jul 2009 15:00:00 EST. Being that games are an expensive habit, we're always on the lookout for a decent savings. With that in mind, please direct your attention to <a href="http://www.amazon.com/Overlord-Dark-Legend-Nintendo-Wii/dp/B001P2IS3I/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&amp;s=videogames&amp;qid=1245910763&amp;sr=8-1">Amazon</a>, where you can pick up a copy of <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/overlord-dark-legend"><em>Overlord: Dark Legend</em></a> for $36.99. That's $13.00 off the standard price of $49.99 and nothing to sneeze at. The game has been reviewed <a href="http://www.metacritic.com/games/platforms/wii/overlorddarklegend?q=overlord%20legend">fairly well</a> thus far and, at the very least, we can vouch for the charms of its PS3 and Xbox 360 brethren.<br /><br />If you like your games funny and evil, you might consider picking it up.<br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/overlord-dark-legend/">Overlord: Dark Legend</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/overlord-dark-legend/#1376302"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2009/02/ovlrddl7_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/overlord-dark-legend/#1376301"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2009/02/ovlrddl6_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/overlord-dark-legend/#1376300"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2009/02/ovlrddl4_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/overlord-dark-legend/#1376299"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2009/02/ovlrddl5_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/overlord-dark-legend/#1376298"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2009/02/ovlrddl3_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/06/25/deal-watch-grab-overlord-dark-legend-for-37/">Deal watch: Grab Overlord: Dark Legend for $37</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 25 Jun 2009 13:05:00 EST. With limited time in the day to review all the games we want to tell you about, some have a habit of falling through the cracks before we've been able to get our thoughts onto the site. In the hopes of remedying that, we've created a new feature we're calling Snap Judgment. Here's the gist: We'll play enough of the game to get the lay of the land -- what we liked, what we didn't, etc. -- and then pass our opinions on to you. It's not a full "review" in the traditional sense, but we're hoping you'll scroll away just a bit more informed.<br /><br />So, shall we?<br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/overlord-ii-1/">Overlord II</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/overlord-ii-1/#1529637"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2009/05/overlordii_wolf_mounts_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/overlord-ii-1/#1529636"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2009/05/overlordii_heartlandassault_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/overlord-ii-1/#1529635"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2009/05/overlordii_fairyland_08_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/overlord-ii-1/#1529634"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2009/05/ovelordii_nordbergtc6_01_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/overlord-ii-1/#1439186"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2009/03/olii_yeti_charge_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/06/24/snap-judgment-overlord-2/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Snap Judgment: Overlord 2</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/06/24/snap-judgment-overlord-2/">Snap Judgment: Overlord 2</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 24 Jun 2009 17:00:00 EST. The original <a href="http://joystiq.com/tag/overlord"><em>Overlord</em></a> was a flawed game with a subversively chewy center. The only thing <a href="http://joystiq.com/tag/overlord-2"><em>Overlord II</em></a> needs to deliver to outdo the original is some polish, which is something we can't really tell is present from messing around with a demo for 10 minutes. That doesn't mean we didn't like what we saw, it's simply noting that <em>Overlord</em>'s flaws didn't become strikingly clear until later in the game. The latest title has the same whimsical art style as the original, but this time magic is starting to disappear from the world. The Overlord will not only battle a comical version of the Roman empire (<em>Asterix and Obelix</em> fans will notice immediately), but will be an antihero to the loss of magic in the world.<br /><br />A demo for the game is <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/06/04/overlord-ii-demo-strikes-giggly-fear-on-xbox-360-now/">available now on Xbox Live</a> and <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/06/05/psn-friday-e3-lag-edition/#ps3">PSN</a>, but it picks up where the E3 demo leaves off.<br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/overlord-ii-1/">Overlord II</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/overlord-ii-1/#1529637"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2009/05/overlordii_wolf_mounts_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/overlord-ii-1/#1529636"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2009/05/overlordii_heartlandassault_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/overlord-ii-1/#1529635"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2009/05/overlordii_fairyland_08_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/overlord-ii-1/#1529634"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2009/05/ovelordii_nordbergtc6_01_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/overlord-ii-1/#1439186"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2009/03/olii_yeti_charge_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/06/07/hands-on-overlord-ii/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Hands-on: Overlord II</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/06/07/hands-on-overlord-ii/">Hands-on: Overlord II</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Sun, 07 Jun 2009 17:00:00 EST. Now, let's examine the difference between "bad" and "evil." Using your army of minions to wreak havoc in a fairytale land like you will in <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/overlord-dark-legend"><em>Overlord: Dark Legend</em></a>? That's evil. Evil in a fun way that we can't wait to try out, but all the same, <em>evil</em>.<br /><br />But making <a href="http://www.codemasters.com/games/?gameid=2827">a trailer available</a> to the public for the aforementioned game but only allowing it to be viewed in a window the size of Herv&eacute; Villechaize's belt buckle? That's just bad.<br /><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/05/14/new-overlord-dark-legend-trailer-is-adorable-tiny/">New Overlord: Dark Legend trailer is adorable, tiny</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 14 May 2009 16:00:00 EST. The website showcases all the games that she's worked on, as well as her contributions to some game writing textbooks and her ongoing series of <em>Mirror's Edge </em>comic books.<br /></div>
<br />There are also links to interviews (including <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/07/30/joystiq-interviews-heavenly-swords-rhianna-pratchett/">one of ours</a>) for those who want to get a little more insight into the person behind the words. From the look of things, the site won't be updated for a while as Rhianna's being kept fairly busy with <em>Overlord 2</em> and the Wii and DS <em>Overlord </em>games. Now that she's set up home on the internet, we wonder if she'll be joining us on Twitter soon, too.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/03/18/rhianna-pratchett-launches-portfolio-website/">Rhianna Pratchett launches portfolio website</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 18 Mar 2009 19:25:00 EST. <div align="left">"Not a port." Those were the words used by <em>Overlord: Dark Legend </em>producer, Carl Johnson, used convey the fact that the Wii's first taste of the darkly humorous action-strategy series is, well, not a port of the upcoming <em>Overlord II </em>for the HD crowd. No, this is every bit its own game -- apart from the basic premise, that is -- that takes good advantage of the Wii's controls, doesn't phone in its visuals and, so far, is a fun (yet sinister) adventure best described as a sort of "<em>Pikmin</em> <em>Gone Wild</em>."<br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/overlord-dark-legend/">Overlord: Dark Legend</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/overlord-dark-legend/#1376302"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2009/02/ovlrddl7_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/overlord-dark-legend/#1376301"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2009/02/ovlrddl6_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/overlord-dark-legend/#1376300"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2009/02/ovlrddl4_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/overlord-dark-legend/#1376299"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2009/02/ovlrddl5_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/overlord-dark-legend/#1376298"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2009/02/ovlrddl3_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div></div>

It might not be a good time to port your game to the Wii right now. With <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/dead-rising"><em>Dead Rising</em></a> causing many jaws to <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/02/09/dont-stare-directly-into-the-dead-rising-wii-maintenence-tunne/">hit the floor in disgust</a>, confidence isn't in ready supply. Enter <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/overlord-dark-legend"><em>Overlord: Dark Legend</em></a> brand manager Dan Robinson, who doesn't want you to think his game is just being <em>slapped together</em>.<br /><br />Codemasters "realized quite early on if we just did a port of '<em>Overlord</em>' or '<em>Overlord 2</em>' onto the Wii, we'd get slighted," Robinson told <a href="http://multiplayerblog.mtv.com/2009/02/09/codemasters-new-overlord-wii-game-is-for-the-hardcore/">MTV Multiplayer</a>. The most important thing for his company is that "the game works with the control system." He explained that when making a game on a Nintendo console, a developer has to "make sure that it hits all the buttons that Nintendo fanboys want," because it can be "dead in the water before you've even started." Viewing the Wii as something more than a system to make a quick buck on ... that is a good start! <br /><br />Codemasters, like <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/sega">Sega</a>, is looking for that hardcore buck, too. "I think it's definitely more of a hardcore game than you've got on the Wii at the moment," he said. "I think this gives us an opportunity to show them that the Wii can actually do games like this, and it actually works and it can make good fun." Casual players need not feel left out, however, as he thinks there are "elements of it" that will appeal to them.<br /><br /><em>Overlord: Dark Legend</em> is currently slated for release this summer.<br />
<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/02/09/codemasters-talks-overlord-working-with-wii/">Codemasters talks Overlord, working with Wii</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Mon, 09 Feb 2009 18:15:00 EST. This week's additions to <a href="http://joystiq.com/tag/gametap">GameTap</a> aren't all that exciting, but if you didn't take the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/10/23/gametap-thursday-full-supreme-commander-experience-overlord-fo/">opportunity back in October</a>, now's your chance to play <span style="font-style: italic;">Overlord</span> one week for free. The game's minions may be a little glitchy and frustrating at times -- but for free, it's worth a test drive.<br />

The game's description notes Al is a 42-year-old who lives with his parents and travels to "dusty Anozira out west to pick up his mail order bride, Ivanna."<br /></li>

This week temporarily adds <span style="font-style: italic;">Overlord</span> to GameTap's free-to-play titles for one week. Give it a spin, there's definitely a "love it or hate it" division about the title. The service also adds <em>Penumbra Overture</em> for the foreseeable future to the gratis list, which can be found after the break.<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/10/23/gametap-thursday-full-supreme-commander-experience-overlord-fo/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>GameTap Thursday: Full Supreme Commander experience; Overlord for free</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/10/23/gametap-thursday-full-supreme-commander-experience-overlord-fo/">GameTap Thursday: Full Supreme Commander experience; Overlord for free</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 23 Oct 2008 03:00:00 EST. <br />The first video of <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/08/14/overlord-moving-his-minions-over-to-wii/"><span style="font-style: italic;">Overlord: Dark Legend</span></a> might be off-screen and a bit blurry, but we don't require high-resolution, direct-feed footage to tell us that the game will keep all the charm and personality of the original <a href="http://xbox.joystiq.com">Xbox 360</a> title.<br /><br />Producer Dean Scott can be heard commentating throughout both this and the video after the jump, enthusing about how nicely the Wii's controls suit <span style="font-style: italic;">Overlord</span>, and discussing how Climax want to avoid fashioning a <span style="font-style: italic;">Morrowind</span>-esque grey and brown fantasy world. So far, it's working; this looks visually closer to <span style="font-style: italic;">Fable</span>. We'll be keen to see how many minions we'll be able to gather at once in <span style="font-style: italic;">Dark Legend</span> -- the first game on the 360 allowed players to assemble around forty or fifty at some points, and a similar number would be welcome here. Also worth noting: Scott currently thinks this will be ready in time for June or July next year.<br /><br />To see a boss battle in action, arm yourself with a pumpkin and charge past the break.<br /><br />
<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/08/25/overlord-footage-features-minions-bosses-pumpkin-armor/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Overlord footage features minions, bosses, pumpkin armor</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/08/25/overlord-footage-features-minions-bosses-pumpkin-armor/">Overlord footage features minions, bosses, pumpkin armor</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Mon, 25 Aug 2008 22:14:00 EST. Triumph Studios' excellent (but flawed) <a href="http://joystiq.com/tag/overlord"><em>Overlord</em></a> will receive a sequel on Xbox 360, PS3 and PC, along with new versions for the Wii and DS, all scheduled for 2009. <a href="http://xbox360.ign.com/articles/898/898516p1.html">IGN</a> reports <em>Overlord II</em> will have smarter minions who can ride mounts, use war machines and sail ships. The scope of the game world has been broadened in the sequel and the controls for the <em>Pikmin</em>-style gameplay have been "greatly improved." We loved the first game, and it's great to hear about all these improvements for the sequel, but we hope "<em>polish"</em> is a word that Triumph doesn't forget this time around.<br /><br />The Overlord franchise will also spawn <em>Overlord Dark Legend</em> on Wii by Climax Studios, an "all new game" penned by <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/rhianna-pratchett">Rhianna Pratchett</a>. The game seems to be set in the original <em>Overlord</em>'s world with many of the same characters, but with the inclusion of some fractured fairy tale aspect. Finally, on DS (and also by Climax Studios), <em>Overlord Minion</em> will present players with a puzzle action game. OK, does that about cover all the <em>Overlord</em> info? Good, all hail the Overlord!<br /><br /><a href="http://xbox360.ign.com/articles/898/898516p1.html">Source</a> -- <em>Overlord 2</em>: Xbox 360, PS3, PC<br /><a href="http://wii.ign.com/articles/898/898651p1.html">Source</a> -- <em>Overlord Dark Legend</em>: Wii<br /><a href="http://ds.ign.com/articles/898/898652p1.html">Source</a> -- <em>Overlord Minion</em>: DS<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/08/14/overlord-overload-sequel-incoming-new-versions-planned-for-wii/">Overlord overload: Sequel incoming, new versions planned for Wii, DS</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 14 Aug 2008 14:15:00 EST. Glorious, undiluted, corrupting <em>POWER</em>. That's what we crave as we slave away at our tiny desks working for The Man, and that's what Codemasters will be bringing us soon. The publisher has announced a DS version of the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/07/16/e308-a-new-pikmin-sprouts/"><em>Pikmin</em></a>-inspired <em>Overlord</em>, in which players must use a crack team of minions to maintain control of their kingdom.<br /><br />Giblet, Blaze, Stench, and Zap are your unquestioning servants throughout <em>Overlord Minions</em>, and instantly win points with us by resembling the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/media/2008/08/gremlin_cg140808.jpg">Gremlins</a>. Unlike the home console editions of the title, you'll be controlling your willing slaves remotely with touches of the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/12/12/cheap-stylus-gifts-that-arent-really-styli/">stylus</a>. By combining their scaly assets, the four can help you solve puzzles, duff up enemies, and generally further your despotic desires. <br /><br />The polygon-saving omission of an Overlord avatar aside, this looks pleasingly close to the fairly <a href="http://www.metacritic.com/games/platforms/xbox360/overlord">well-received</a> original, and we're promised that all of that game's humor and physical comedy will have made the leap when it releases next year. We <em>command</em> you to hit the jump for a second screen.<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/08/14/overlord-to-quench-your-insatiable-thirst-for-power/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Overlord to quench your insatiable thirst for power</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/08/14/overlord-to-quench-your-insatiable-thirst-for-power/">Overlord to quench your insatiable thirst for power</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 14 Aug 2008 13:00:00 EST. Codemasters just <a href="http://xbox360.ign.com/articles/898/898516p1.html">announced</a> <em>Overlord II</em> and that it is currently in development for release on the 360, PS3 and Wii sometime in 2009. Huzzah!<br /><br />Developer Triumph Studios promises that the sequel "massively increases the scope of the original concept," being a much more realistic, less fantasy driven <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/overlord">Overlord</a> </em>where players will encounter political problems and environmental issues all while remaining true to <em>Overlord</em>'s unique style of Minion commanding humor. Fart jokes included. And, heck, the sequel looks much prettier too. Remember that <a href="http://playstation.joystiq.com/tag/overlord">PS3</a> and <a href="http://xbox.joystiq.com/tag/overlord">Xbox 360</a> game <em>Overlord</em>? No? Well, you aren't alone (it was kind of like <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/pikmin"><em>Pikmin</em></a>, only less good), but Codemasters has decided to bring the IP over to Wii anyway. Thankfully, though, they're building a new title from the ground up.<br /><br />Development for the new game, titled <em>Overlord: Dark Legend</em>, will be handled by Climax Studios. They're aiming for a 2009 release, and the producer of the game, Dean Scott, assures that this is "an all new game, designed especially for Wii," with a "new story, new characters," and "new gameplay." Based on his brief chat with IGN, it sounds like a majority of the game will be a pointer-based affair, with gamers using the Wiimote's IR sensor to direct their horde of minions. And what about those minions? <br /><br />"It's the same four minion types, but we've given them new abilities," said Scott. "Some of these may be themed around bodily functions that childish folk like us find hilarious."<br /><br />Be sure to check out first screens from the upcoming game in our gallery below!<br /><br />
<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/08/14/overlord-moving-his-minions-over-to-wii/">Overlord moving his minions over to Wii</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 14 Aug 2008 08:58:00 EST. Think you've seen the last of <em>Overlord</em>? Think again. Codemasters has announced that a sequel, <em>Overlord II</em>, is now in development at Triumph Studios. The game will retain the same gameplay of the first title, whilst increasing the scale of the game dramatically. Emphasis seems to be on epic battles between The Overlord and his minions and a new, Roman-esque, civilization that has set out to thwart him.<br /><br />Minions are now able to ride into battle on various different creatures and the environments are promised to vary far more than in the original. <em>Overlord</em> was a pretty decent title, considering how early in this generation's cycle it was released, so we're looking forward to finding more about <em>Overlord II</em> between now and its 2009 release.<br /><br />[Via Press Release]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/08/14/the-overlord-and-his-minions-will-return-in-2009/">The Overlord and his minions will return in 2009</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 14 Aug 2008 08:30:00 EST. Hear that? Silence. That's the sound you hear when the hype train is <em>nowhere near you</em>. <em>Overlord</em> hasn't had a particularly trumpeted release and have kept the PS3's exclusive content pretty close to their chest. Perhaps a little <em>too</em> close to their chest. Only today, on the day of release, do we know what extra stuff fills the game's Blu-ray. <br /><br />The PS3 version contains new levels (one new level for each of the game's five kingdoms) and enemies, as well as new features such as 7.1 surround sound support. There's also a new online co-op mode, online head-to-head battles and "enhanced visuals." To top it off there's also a new mini map and hints and tips which pop up throughout the game to prevent the player from getting stuck. Not a bad update, really. It certainly makes the game more tempting, whether you've already played it on the 360/PC or not.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/06/24/exclusive-overord-ps3-content-detailed-on-the-day-of-release/">Exclusive Overlord PS3 content detailed ... on the day of release</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 24 Jun 2008 19:05:00 EST. Why? All the extra content <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/04/24/overload-on-new-overlord-media/">we talked about before</a>, including some tweaked and enhanced graphics. <br /><em>Overlord: Raising Hell</em> is coming to PS3 this June. This enhanced port of the Xbox 360 original contains new features not found in the original, such as newly detailed visuals, 7.1 surround sound and feature additions, such as the new on-screen mini-map. It will also include all the levels from <em>Raising Hell</em>.<br /><br />Players must take their minion horde and take over each abyss to claim the underworld throne, vanquishing all that get in the way. Yes, you'll have to get rid of pesky "hero" types as well. Our friends at <a href="http://xbox.joystiq.com/2007/06/08/x3f-hands-on-overlord/">X3F</a> described the process of controlling your minions as "<em>Pikmin</em>-like." But more evil, of course.<br /><br />Check out new screens in our gallery below, and check out the new trailer at <a href="http://www.codemasters.com/overlordraisinghell" class="releaselink" target="_new">www.codemasters.com/overlordraisinghell</a>.<br /><br /><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/04/24/overload-on-new-overlord-media/">Overload on new Overlord media</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 24 Apr 2008 11:30:00 EST. It's taken them a while to <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/07/31/codemasters-overrules-overlord-ps3-rumor/">admit it</a>, but publisher Codemasters is finally ready to confirm the existence of <a href="http://www.computerandvideogames.com/article.php?id=183289"><em>Overlord </em>on PS3</a>, due for release this summer.<br /><br />Titled <em>Overlord: Raising Hell</em> (ouch), the PS3 version will include all the downloadable content previously released for the Xbox 360 and PC versions on one shiny, blu-ray disc. Aside from this additional content, the game will remain unchanged from its predecessors, for better or for worse. Minions ahoy!<br /><br />[Via <a href="http://www.ps3fanboy.com/2008/02/25/well-what-do-you-know-overlord-is-coming-to-ps3/">PS3 Fanboy</a>]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/02/25/overlord-confirmed-for-ps3/">Overlord confirmed for PS3</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Mon, 25 Feb 2008 19:15:00 EST. We totally didn't see this one coming (oh wait, <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/02/20/rumour-overlord-coming-to-ps3/">yes we did</a>) - CVG is confirming that <em>Overlord</em> will be coming to the PS3 this summer. Thanks to the storage capacity of Blu-ray the game will come bundled with all of the downloadable content that's currently available for the 360 and PC versions on the same disc as the game. The PS3 version will be released under the name <em>Overlord: Raising Hell</em> to reflect the extra content.<br /><br />It's nice to get confirmation, even if Codemaster's vague quote all-but confirmed the game was coming. Sadly a more specific release date than "summer" isn't available, so it could arrive in four months or seven. Whichever happens, we'll be happy to finally get our hands on the game for our console of choice.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/02/25/well-what-do-you-know-overlord-is-coming-to-ps3/">Well what do you know? Dutch site PS3 Party is reporting that <em>Overlord</em>, originally only for the Xbox 360 and PC, might be heading for the PS3. With no official announcement, this remains to be a complete rumour for now. We contacted Codemasters who gave us the following, very vague, statement: "After the release of the <em>Overlord: Raising Hell</em> expansion pack on Xbox Live Marketplace last week, there's been a definite increase in interest surrounding the dark adventures of the minion master. However, although we won't comment on rumour and speculation, I can certainly confirm that you haven't seen the last of the Overlord just yet."<br /><br />So we haven't seen the last of the Overlord. But wait, we haven't seen the Overlord <em>at all</em>, yet. We're not going to read too much into it, but at least there was no outright denial. <em>Overlord</em>, or some form of a sequel, would be really nice to see on the PS3.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/02/20/rumour-overlord-coming-to-ps3/">Rumour: Overlord coming to PS3?</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 20 Feb 2008 22:00:00 EST. With wallets tightened in preparation of the year's later blockbuster releases, not many people shelled out the cash to pick up this clever <em>Pikmin-</em>esque treat, and our hopes for the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/11/01/overlord-summoning-trio-of-dlc-in-nov/">previously announced trio of downloadable expansions</a> for the game faded as the winter months passed.<br /><br />However, just as surreptitiously as the game hit American store shelves, the <a href="http://www.xbox360fanboy.com/2008/02/15/overlord-dlc-finally-on-xblm/">three <em>Overlord </em>DLC packs recently crept onto Xbox Live Marketplace</a>. For 800 MS Points you can grab the "Raising Hell" expansion, which adds some new levels and challenges to the single player campaign. The "Challenge Pack" goes for 400 MS Points, and adds 7 new multiplayer maps and a new campaign difficulty. And, for the low, low price of free, you can download a split-screen multiplayer mode to enjoy with a good friend, or better yet, your most trusted minion.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/02/17/three-overlord-dlc-packs-on-live-marketplace/">Three Overlord DLC packs on Live Marketplace</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Sun, 17 Feb 2008 12:30:00 EST. The humor worked, the formula was fun, plus you got minions. The <em>Pikimin</em>-like gameplay worked so well that the devs figured it would be a worth endevor if they put resources into DLC development. However this DLC has taken <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/11/01/overlord-split-screen-and-hell-raising-in-november/">much longer than expected</a> to get here, so it may not sell as well as it might have back in November. The two packs that were slated for last year <a href="http://www.eurogamer.net/article.php?article_id=92850">are here, along with a third</a>, which is new. The "Raising Hell" Pack will be 800 MSpoints and is a single player expansion, adding new locations and goals. The "Challenge" pack will be 400 MSpoints and adds 7 multiplayer maps, and a harder single-player difficulty. Finally, the "Split-Screen" Pack will enable local split-screen play, and includes a single new map.<br /><br />The official, in-depth, DLC description after the break:<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/02/15/overlord-dlc-finally-on-xblm/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Better late than never: Overlord DLC on XBLM</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/02/15/overlord-dlc-finally-on-xblm/">Better late than never: Overlord DLC on XBLM</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Fri, 15 Feb 2008 14:30:00 EST. <strong><em>Civilization IV: Beyond the Sword</em></strong> (PC)<br />
<br />
Please, make the addiction stop! <em>Civilization IV: Warlords</em>, the first expansion for <span style="font-style: italic;">Civ IV,</span> made my "<a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/01/01/best-of-the-rest-alexanders-picks/">Best of the Rest</a>" last year and <em>Beyond the Sword</em> tops this year's list. The funny thing is I'm not a <span style="font-style: italic;">Civ</span> fanboy, nor am I even that great of a player (<span style="font-style: italic;">Full Disclosure</span>: I still play on Noble level), but <span style="font-style: italic;">Civ IV</span> is a game I can come back to over and over again. <span style="font-style: italic;">Beyond the Sword</span> added much-needed mechanics for culture-prone and passive-aggressive players, with enhancements in espionage and other concepts "beyond the sword." Oh, and just to keep last year's tradition going: Firaxis (2K, Take-Two), <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/07/12/firaxis-wouldnt-be-against-alpha-centauri-ii/">please get the rights to <em>Alpha Centauri</em></a> back from EA and give us a sequel!<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/01/01/best-of-the-rest-alexanders-picks-of-2007/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Best of the Rest: Alexander's Picks of 2007</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/01/01/best-of-the-rest-alexanders-picks-of-2007/">Best of the Rest: Alexander's Picks of 2007</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 01 Jan 2008 22:30:00 EST. <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/Overlord/">Overlord</a></em>, <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/Dirt/">Dirt</a></em> and <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/10/24/metareview-clive-barkers-jericho-xbox-360-ps3-pc/"><em>Meh</em>-<em>richo</em></a> publisher <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/Codemasters/">Codemasters</a> has announced its financial results for the full year ending June 30th, a year the European company claims was its best in the 22 years since inception. A 38% rise in sales and an increase of revenues to $149 million is largely to blame on a 332% improvement in sales within the US retail channel. Perhaps blasting rally fans with the faux hip voice of Travis Pastrana wasn't such a bad move after all.<br /><br />A <a href="http://www.gamasutra.com/php-bin/news_index.php?story=16290">Gamasutra</a> report further notes that these positive results follow from a recent $84.3 in game design and development, as well as a prominent marketing and distribution agreement with Warner Bros. home entertainment group. Mind you, releasing solid games such as <em>Overlord</em> and <em>Dirt</em> couldn't have hurt either.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/11/19/codemasters-pushed-into-record-year-by-us-sales/">Codemasters pushed into record year by US sales</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Mon, 19 Nov 2007 18:55:00 EST. <em>Overlord</em> will unleash three <a href="http://www.codemasters.com/press/?showarticle=11118">downloadable content packs</a> on Xbox Live this November. One pack is free and enables players to experience the game in a multiplayer split-screen mode; a new co-op map will also be included challenging two Overlords to work together in surviving "the onslaught of an arch rock giant on the rampage." The other two packs will cost you, but at this point neither have a price. One will offer five new levels for the single player campaign and the other offers a "legendary" difficulty level and multiplayer maps. None of the packs have an exact release date.<br /><br />PC versions of these packs will be available early next year, and the German version of <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/overlord"><em>Overlord</em></a> will include all the new content in a special edition. We do <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/10/25/gametap-thursday-jericho-jericho-jericho-but-try-overlord/">hope</a> <em>Overlord</em> gets a sequel; there's nothing really "wrong" with the game compared to less worthy games we've seen getting sequels. <br /><br />[Via <a href="http://www.xbox360fanboy.com/2007/11/01/overlord-split-screen-and-hell-raising-in-november/">X3F</a>]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/11/01/overlord-summoning-trio-of-dlc-in-nov/">Overlord summoning trio of DLC in Nov.</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 01 Nov 2007 14:57:00 EST. One will be free and two will cost you.<br /><br />So, let's gets to the goods and break these three DLC packages down. The <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/08/15/split-screen-multiplayer-coming-to-overlord/">long time promised</a> <em>Overlord</em> split-screen option will be included in the free "Split-Screen Multiplayer Pack" allowing head-to-head action throughout the entire game. The free pack will also include an additional multiplayer map called "Rocky Race". The other two premium packs (see: get out your wallets) include "Raising Hell" and the "Challenge Pack". "Raising Hell" is a single player expansion that adds new levels, new enemies and new quests through all kinds of hellish abysses. The "Challenge Pack" offers up seven brand new multiplayer maps as well as a Legendary difficulty mode for the most experienced <em>Overlords</em>. Pricing for the two premium DLC offerings as well as a firm release date for all the content has yet to be confirmed, but we're sure <em>Overlord</em> fans will be patient since they've had to exercise such trait for the past few months anyway. <em>Overlords</em>, unite!<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/11/01/overlord-split-screen-and-hell-raising-in-november/">Overlord: Split-screen and hell raising in November</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 01 Nov 2007 11:45:00 EST. We're not sure how many of have been playing <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/Overlord/">Overlord</a></em>'s multiplayer mode, but if the thing keeping you away from it is the inability to see the anguish in your foes eyes as you send your minions after them, we have good news. Codemasters has confirmed that they're working on a split-screen multiplayer mode for the game, due out "soon" through the Xbox Live Marketplace.<br /><br />We don't know exactly how the multiplayer mode will work (details are scant at the moment) but we do know that the mode will work with all multiplayer maps. Oh, we almost forgot the best part: It's free. Sounds like you may not want to succumb to trade-in fever just yet.<br /><br />[Via <a href="http://www.xbox360fanboy.com/2007/08/15/split-screen-multiplayer-coming-to-overlord/">X3F</a>]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/08/15/codemasters-crafting-split-screen-mode-for-overlord/">Codemasters crafting split-screen mode for Overlord</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 15 Aug 2007 17:55:00 EST. The title update will be releasing sometime soon and will be available for free, but other than that Codemasters hasn't given any specifics to what this split-screen multiplayer <em>Overlord</em> experience entails.
