We remember feeling quite special about the Playstation versions-- they were the <em>real</em> versions of <em>real arcade games! At home! </em>But now the <em>Namco Museum </em>series is, itself, old. How old?<br /><br /><em><a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Valkyrie_No_Densetsu">Valkyrie no Densetsu</a> </em>(1989) was eight years old when it was released on <em><a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Namco_Museum#Namco_Museum_Volume_5">Namco Museum Vol. 5</a>.</em> The original <em><a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Namco_Museum">Namco Museum</a> </em>Playstation game is eleven years old. In other words, <em>Namco Museum</em> is now older, in relative terms, than a game that was old enough for <em>Namco Museum.</em><br /><br />Speaking of the Playstation editions, the new <em>Namco Museum DS </em>has something not seen since those days: an actual museum mode, in the form of a trophy collection and music player, as well as scanned instructions and flyers. <em><br /><br /></em>Relatively newer features include bottom-screen maps and hints for <em><a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Galaga">Galaga</a> (?), <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Xevious">Xevious</a>, </em>and <em><a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tower_of_Druaga">The Tower of Druaga</a>.</em> Of course, the most exciting relatively-new thing is <em>Pac-Man Vs.</em>, which, now that it won't require so much of a financial outlay, we may actually try with another person.<br /><br /><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/07/09/namco-museum-screens-are-as-new-as-namco-museum-screens-can-be/">Namco Museum screens are as new as Namco Museum screens can be</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Mon, 09 Jul 2007 11:30:00 EST. In honor of Father's Day, we <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/dsd">thought we'd ask</a> a themed question: Who's your favorite father and son/daughter team? Donkey Kong and Donkey Kong Jr., or, uh, hmm. Oh, how about Bowser and the Koopa Kids? Pac-Man and Baby Pac-Man? Pitfall Harry and Harry Jr. from <em>Pitfall: The Mayan Adventure?</em> <br /><br />Man, we already had to go to <em>Pitfall: The Mayan Adventure? </em>Maybe you guys can think of more. We can't be retrogaming encyclopedias <em>every day, </em>okay? It would be pretty hard to limit this to the DS, but if you can think of DS characters, you win at commenting.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/06/17/ds-daily-happy-fathers-day/">DS Daily: Happy Father's Day!</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Sun, 17 Jun 2007 10:00:00 EST. Greenberg went on to say that <em>Pac-Man CE</em> is not a simple port of the old game, but is almost a sequel in it's own right with new gameplay, artwork, music and HD implementation added. So, he feels that the 800 Microsoft points that the game costs is more than reasonable for what you're getting.<br /><br />And if you're a regular <a href="http://podcasts.xbox360fanboy.com/2007/06/11/xbox-360-fancast-020-poppin-caps/">Fancast</a> listener, you'll know that we were all impressed by the new <em>Championship Edition</em> and most of us were happy to plop down our Microsoft points. We also agree that it's more of a sequel than anything else, but it's ultimately up to you if you think 800 points is worth a new (and extremely fun) <em>Pac-Man</em> experience. So, is the pricing overkill or is it in line with other Arcade offerings?<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/06/12/microsoft-defends-pac-man-ce-pricing/">Microsoft defends Pac-Man CE pricing</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 12 Jun 2007 14:30:00 EST. <a href="http://www.joystiq.com//tag/achievements101">X3F Achievements 101</a> is back, and on its regularly scheduled time slot of Sundays. Initial response to our first edition was rather positive, so we're glad you like the concept and hope you enjoy reading, and even participating in the column. Emails with Achievement tips also came in at a good pace, and I look forward to playing and trading with you. One particular email stood out, which came from Casey over at <a href="http://www.brains-n-brawn.com/">brains-N-brawn.com</a>, and the steps he took to get Achievements in one of the most time consuming Arcade games, <em>Bejeweled 2</em>.<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/06/11/x3f-achievements-101-bots-bosses-and-babalities/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>X3F Achievements 101: Bots, Bosses and Babalities</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/06/11/x3f-achievements-101-bots-bosses-and-babalities/">X3F Achievements 101: Bots, Bosses and Babalities</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Mon, 11 Jun 2007 01:30:00 EST. European residents can enter the giveaway by answering a rather easy <em>Pac-Man</em> related question over on their site to win prizes galore. What prizes you ask. Well, good question. They're giving away five 12-Month XBL Vision Gold Packs, five XBLA retro tshirts, and fifteen codes to download the new <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/06/05/wokka-wokka-first-pac-man-ce-images-video/">Pac-Man Championship Edition</a></em> game off the Arcade. So, head on over to their site and enter the giveaway before June 13th. Remember, you must be a European resident, North Americans need not apply.<br /><br />[Thanks, eLiNeS]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/06/06/win-pac-man-live-subscriptions-and-vision-cams/">Win Pac-Man, Live subscriptions and Vision cams</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 06 Jun 2007 14:00:00 EST. <div align="left">As <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/06/05/pac-man-gets-an-upgrade-hits-xbla-tomorrow/">announced</a> yesterday, today's Xbox Live Arcade <a href="http://www.majornelson.com/archive/2007/06/06/arcade-pac-man-championship-edition.aspx">release</a> is <em>Pac-Man: Championship Edition.</em> For 800 Microsoft Points, you can get a revisited <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/06/05/wokka-wokka-first-pac-man-ce-images-video/">look</a> at the Pac-Man experience, with reworked gameplay and mazes, complimented by psychedelic graphics scheme. But in the end, some would say that it's still just Pac-Man, and you can get the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2006/08/09/pac-man-is-out-boyeeee/">original</a>, and his<a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/01/08/ms-pac-man-waka-wakas-xbla-this-week/"> female counterpart</a> for the same price as CE. So will you be giving this a shot, or are you going to shoo him <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/06/05/wokka-wokka-first-pac-man-ce-images-video/">away</a>? Oh, and we need to decide on a consistent spelling of his sound effect, as "Wokka", "Wakka" , and "Waka" can all be cited within the bowels of Fanboy Towers.<a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/06/05/wokka-wokka-first-pac-man-ce-images-video/"><br /></a></div>

And the countless rest of you that were disappointed by Microsoft's not-so-big announcement of <em>Pac-Man Championship Edition</em> for Xbox 360.<br /><br />At the Pac-Man tournament in New York City, we were able to dedicate ample time (hours, maybe) to the final Xbox 360 version of <em>Pac-Man</em>. <em>Championship Edition</em> is, in fact, a true sequel to the original <em>Pac-Man</em> released 26 years ago. Certainly, that seems unimaginable to some -- but there are significant additions to the classic arcade gameplay that make this far more than a pretty HD remake.<br /><br />The new widescreen perspective is taken advantage fully in this Xbox 360 exclusive. While the game is still about avoiding ghosts and eating pellets, the wider field of play has created a new dynamic to the title. The maze is now separated into two distinct halves: left and right. Instead of simple mazes that end at the collection of all the pellets, players will find that the mazes feature an endless supply of dots, and a constantly shape-shifting map. When successfully consuming a sufficient amount of pellets on one side of the field, one of <em>Pac-Man</em>'s iconic fruits will appear for collection. Eating the fruit will send a rippling shockwave toward the other half of the field, replenishing the dots, and oftentimes, changing the design of the maze entirely.<br /><br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/pac-man-championship-edition-xbla/">Pac-Man Championship Edition (XBLA)</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/pac-man-championship-edition-xbla/#264716"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2007/06/pac-man-ce_logo_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/pac-man-championship-edition-xbla/#264713"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2007/06/pac-man-ce_screenshot1_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/pac-man-championship-edition-xbla/#264712"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2007/06/pac-man-ce_screenshot10_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/pac-man-championship-edition-xbla/#264722"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2007/06/pac-man-ce_screenshot11_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/pac-man-championship-edition-xbla/#264717"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2007/06/pac-man-ce_screenshot12_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/06/06/pac-man-championship-edition-hands-on/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Pac-Man Championship Edition hands-on</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/06/06/pac-man-championship-edition-hands-on/">Pac-Man Championship Edition hands-on</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 06 Jun 2007 00:01:00 EST. We've uncovered the first images of the game, and even a video of the game in motion. Put simply, this isn't your daddy's <em>Pac-Man</em>. It's damned close, but certainly different. The most obvious change is the new psychedelic graphics. The most important change, however, is that the game comes with several new modes and mazes. In our favorite mode, you have to eat fruit in order to make more dots appear on screen. Check out the <em>Pac-Man CE</em> gallery below. NAMCO and Microsoft just announced that the<em> Pac-Man Championship Edition</em> will be headed to the XBLA and will feature the first new mazes in over 26 years. The new <em>Championship Edition</em> is exclusive to the XBLA and will stick with the standard 80's 2D presentation, but will include added features and gameplay. The game will feature six new timed game modes, a new soundtrack, a new HD presentation, and brand new dynamically changing mazes. NAMCO's <em>Pac-Man Championship Edition</em> will be available this Wednesday on the Arcade for 800 Microsoft points. Full press release after the break.<br /><br />We know this news is extremely exciting for <em>Pac-Man</em> fans around the world as this is the first time the original <em>Pac-Man</em> game has been updated with new content. But for the rest of us who were expecting a BIG Xbox announcement, we can't help but feel a little saddened as our imaginations and expectations may have gotten the best of us.<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/06/05/pac-man-gets-an-upgrade-hits-xbla-tomorrow/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Pac-Man gets an upgrade, hits XBLA tomorrow</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/06/05/pac-man-gets-an-upgrade-hits-xbla-tomorrow/">Pac-Man gets an upgrade, hits XBLA tomorrow</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 05 Jun 2007 13:30:00 EST. And after giving the video a watch, is it just us or do you feel just a little bit sorry for <em>Pac-Man</em>? Mr. Moore has quite the dirty British mouth and his vulgarities are maybe just a little unwarranted. Unless <em>Pac-Man</em> did something unspeakably wrong to make Peter angry, something like eating the last cherry from the company fridge.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/06/05/peter-moore-hates-pac-man/">Peter Moore hates Pac-Man</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 05 Jun 2007 11:30:00 EST. The major complaint about Namco's <a href="http://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_ss_gw/103-2204069-1167800?url=search-alias%3Daps&amp;field-keywords=namco+museum&amp;Go.x=0&amp;Go.y=0&amp;Go=Go"><em>Museum</em> series</a> of retro compilations is that they're just <em>too faithful</em> to their arcade counterparts. People don't want exact arcade translations anymore, they want games remade unrecognizably in 3D! They want Pac-Man randomly inserted into every game!<br /><br />At least, that seems to be Namco Bandai's thinking. Either that or they weren't sure how else to rerelease <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/05/14/vc-monday-madness-more-ninja-than-you-can-shake-a-shuriken-at/">games</a> they're already <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/03/09/vc-friday-straightforward-killing/">selling</a> on the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/category/virtual-console">Virtual Console</a>. The result is <em>Namco Museum Remix</em>, a set of Namco classics, now with more waggle, depth, and Pac! The remixed games include <em>Galaga, Pac-Motos, <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rally-X">Rally-X</a>, Gator Panic, </em>and <em>Pac 'n Roll</em>, which is apparently a classic now despite not even being two years old. For that matter, <em>Gator Panic</em> seems to be based on a <a href="http://mobilegamefaqs.com/gameinfo.php?id=139&amp;name=Gator+Panic">cell phone game</a> which is itself based on the Whack-a-Mole like redemption game, and we have no idea what <em>Pac-Motos</em> was originally. Interesting what passes for "classics" these days!<br /><br />In addition to the remixes, the collection includes <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cutie_Q">Cutie Q</a>, <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dig_Dug">Dig Dug</a>, Galaxian, <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gaplus">Gaplus</a>, <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mappy">Mappy</a>, <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pac_%26_Pal">Pac &amp; Pal</a>, Pac-Mania,<a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Super_Pac-Man"> Super Pac-Man</a>, and <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/Xevious/">Xevious</a>. We poke fun at Namco for selling the same games over and over again, but this is an okay selection of somewhat less common stuff! Sorry to everyone who bought NES <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/01/12/vc-friday-lackluster-week-for-downloadable-games/"><em>Xevious </em></a>on the Virtual Console.<br /><br />Check out our gallery of screens from the remixed games. Some are faithful, like <em>Rally-X,</em> and others are completely incomprehensible, like the image at the top of this post, which is supposed to be <em>Galaga.<br /><br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/namco-museum-remix/">Namco Museum Remix</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/namco-museum-remix/#444222"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/nintendo.joystiq.com/media/2007/10/1p_07_pacn_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/namco-museum-remix/#444221"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/nintendo.joystiq.com/media/2007/10/1p_06_motos_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/namco-museum-remix/#444220"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/nintendo.joystiq.com/media/2007/10/1p_05_galaga_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/namco-museum-remix/#444219"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/nintendo.joystiq.com/media/2007/10/1p_03_pacn_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/namco-museum-remix/#444218"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/nintendo.joystiq.com/media/2007/10/1p_01_galaga_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div></em><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/05/18/namco-goes-insane-after-too-many-namco-museum-releases/">Namco goes insane after too many Namco Museum releases</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Fri, 18 May 2007 12:20:00 EST. No problem, because <a href="http://www.majornelson.com/archive/2007/05/06/how-to-get-score-a-million-on-pac-man.aspx">Major Nelson</a> posted the strategy guide in <a href="http://www.ionpool.net/arcade/pac_man/break_pac_man.pdf">PDF form</a> online, so you can learn not only basic <em>Pac-Man</em> strategies, but each level's patterns and simple memory aids to help you earn your millions points. See, scoring a million points isn't all that hard.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/05/06/scoring-a-million-in-pac-man-is-cake/">Scoring a million in Pac-Man is cake</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Sun, 06 May 2007 17:30:00 EST. But we're a little embarrassed to say that we couldn't specifically nail down where you can download it other than by clicking on a rotating advertising banner. So, you may have to dig around the Marketplace until you find a <em>Pac-Man</em> ad. We guess it was a little too hard for the XBLM gods to put the theme in the gamer pictures and themes new releases section. Oh well, it's pretty interesting, free, and therefore worth all the XBLM detective work. So give it a download ... if you can find it.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/04/26/free-pac-man-tournament-theme-available/">Free Pac-Man tournament theme available</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 26 Apr 2007 13:00:00 EST. The point is this, Godfree over at <a href="http://www.gamertagradio.com">Gamertag Radio</a> was nice enough to hook us up with a free download of Pac-Man for Xbox Live Arcade. In celebration of the upcoming <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/04/18/xbla-pac-man-world-championship-next-week/"><em>Pac-Man</em> World Championship</a>, we're giving it away to one lucky commenter. <br /><br />Yeah, we know. It's a retro game and we only have one copy, but it's free! All you have to do is leave a comment on this post. Tomorrow, we'll pick a comment at random and email the download code to the author. The game sports single pack multiplayer and is priced at $20. Other games in the collection include <em>Dig Dug II</em>, <em>Xevious</em>, <em>Pac-Man, Mappy, Galaxian, Galaga, </em>and<em> Tower of Druaga</em>. We're happy paying $20 just for the multiplayer <em>Pac-Man VS</em> action.<br /><br />[Via <a href="http://www.evilavatar.com/forums/showthread.php?t=28213&amp;">Evil Avatar</a>; thanks, Sam!]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/04/11/pac-man-vs-coming-to-ds-via-namco-museum/">Pac-Man VS coming to DS via Namco Museum</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 11 Apr 2007 17:55:00 EST. This is an advertisements for Belgian grocery store Delhaize. Wonders cease to amaze how the marketing department came up with this genuinely novel idea.<br /><br />Enjoy the clip, embedded after the break, and know that there is a week of sales at your local Belgian grocery chain. Either way, Highway 55 in Minnesota has some hot retro gaming <a href="http://www.startribune.com/462/story/889553.html">traffic tips</a> on the road. <br /><br />The state painted large white dots on the roadway to instruct drivers about the dangers of tailgating, and someone came in and promptly dropped a <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/media/2006/12/pacmanhighway.jpg">painted Pac-Man</a> on the road, chasing the dots. Kudos to you, highway bandit. If you'd like a shot at one of them, all you have to do is be very good at <em>Pac-Man</em>. The best thing is that this is web-based <em>Pac-Man</em> at the GTR arcade, so you can even play from work (which we totally don't condone)! The headsets will be given to the top 2 <em>Pac-Man</em> players on the GTR leaderboard. You'd better hurry though, the contest is over on November 14th. <br /><br />It's not every day that you get a chance to win something just for playing games, so you might as well give it a shot (of course, you could <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2006/11/09/roboblitz-t-shirt-contest-day-1/">enter</a> our contest, too). If you're interested in a free wireless headset, head over to GTR (make sure to register) and play some <a href="http://www.gamertagradio.com/vbportal/forums/arcade.php?&amp;act=Arcade&amp;do=play&amp;gameid=3"><em>Pac-Man</em></a>.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2006/11/09/enjoy-pac-man-get-a-free-wireless-headset/">Enjoy Pac-Man, get a free wireless headset</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 09 Nov 2006 17:15:00 EST. We're sure there isn't any bias here, since they make and sell the thing. They must have done extensive research with graphs, pie charts and focus groups to back this claim up. <br /><br />Rush out now or be the most unpopular kid on your block. The decade in which
games as an art form really took off was the 1980s with Mario, Pac-Man and Zelda all being created within these 10
years. Their qualities of pixelated simplicity are almost timeless, which is probably why games based upon 80s game
characters are still being made today. If you're an artist, they're also a good source of inspiration. Enter "I am
8-bit". This annual show offers a yearly exhibition for showing video game inspired works.<br /><br />The show
which last took place at E3 '05, is specifically targeted at "reinterpretations of 80s gaming bliss". The
works include paintings, sculptures, sketches and other, sometimes strange, mediums. In a sentence: art meets video
game nostalgia. The next show takes place from April 18th to May 19 at Gallery Ninteen Eighty Eight in Los Angeles, so
remember to mark your calendar. In the meantime, take a look at some of the examples from last year's show. Our
favorite? <a href="http://www.iam8bit.net/gallery/7.htm">The <em>Pac-Man</em> Grenade</a> by Peter Gronquist.<br /><br
/>[Via <a href="http://digg.com/gaming/I_am_8-Bit%3A_Classic_Video_Game_Art">digg</a>]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2006/01/05/i-am-8-bit-video-game-inspired-art/">"I am 8-bit": video game inspired art</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 05 Jan 2006 19:00:00 EST.
