Pac-Man Championship Edition DX surfaces on Windows 8

Originally due in November, the Windows 8 and Windows RT version of Pac-Man Championship Edition DX are available now. Being compatible with both Windows 8 and Windows RT, you don't have to try to remember exactly which Surface tablet you bought; it'll work on any of them.

Pricing on the Windows 8 version is consistent with the XBLA and PSN versions, at $9.99/8.49€. We assume the ghost count is also consistent, at so many ghosts.

Pac-Man Championship Edition DX wakes up on Windows 8 this month

Despite the trailer saying Pac-Man Championship Edition DX is "now available from Windows Store," the official release date for the Windows 8 version, according to Namco Bandai, is "November 2012."

In any case, this impending Windows 8 release provides one more venue from which the excellent game can be acquired. If you don't have any of the other platforms on which it's been released, and you have a Windows 8 device, we encourage you to sneak past the line of sleeping ghosts and check it out.

'Splosion Man 'splodes to top of XBLA sales chart

'Spolsion Man, one or our absolute favorites of 2009, enjoyed a surprise sales surge last week, rocketing to the top of the Xbox Live Arcade bestseller list. That's the power of Black Friday and a one-day, 75-percent discount.

In fact, thirteen of the top twenty bestsellers for the week of November 22 were on sale for at least part of the period, and the only discounted XBLA title not to chart was poor Voodoo Dice. Amidst the apparently too-good-to-refuse deals, Crazy Taxi made a strong debut in the number six position in its first week of release, and Pac-Man CE DX ate up a top-ten spot in its second week of availability.

As for Xbox Live activity, Black Ops recruits and Modern Warfare 2 veterans (who aren't about to surrender that easily) continue to hog the most bandwidth, followed by the Reach faithful and -- watch out for that Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood sneaking up the activity chart! Speaking of no surrender, how about World at War and Call of Duty 4 (remember that one?) hanging around the top twenty most-played Xbox Live games? No wonder Activision wants to better tap its gold mine next year.

Too much good PSN content! Head ... *pop*. Okay, maybe it's not that dramatic, but there are a lot of games in this week's update. There are new titles like Pac-Man Championship Edition DX or Spelunker HD, and new-to-PSN games like Dragon's Lair and Magic the Gathering: Duels of the Planeswalker, with every title mentioned carrying a $10 price tag.

Then ... well, then there are all the price updates and plenty of add-on content. Check it all out after the break.

The wait is over, friends. Pac-Man Championship Edition DX is here and it's positively insane. If you've yet to witness it in action, be sure to watch this week's XBLA in Brief. Apart from Namco's latest, we also get Alien Breed 3: Descent, which brings the episodic series to an end (along with a lot of alien critters). Both games are 800 MS Points ($10).

Pac-Man CE DX on XBLA tomorrow, PSN next week

Namco Bandai has announced that its renovated take on its renovated take (whooooa) on its ancient, puck-shaped pill-popper, Pac-Man: Championship Edition DX, will find its way to Xbox Live Arcade during tomorrow's weekly update, and onto PlayStation Network next Tuesday, November 23. The clearly LSD-fueled title will be offered for 800 Microsoft Points or $9.99.

Now, you may find it difficult to justify dropping yet another ten-spot on an iteration of a game that dropped all the way back in 2007 -- however, we'd encourage you to look through all the media in the gallery below before making your final decision. Now, think about all the awful things you've subjected your eyes to throughout your lifetime. Don't they deserve a chance to soak in PMCEDX's pretty, pretty palette of colors? Come on, they've earned it.

'Namco Generations' series includes Galaga Legions DX, Aero Cross

This week's Pac-Man Championship Edition DX isn't just the second game in the Pac-Man CE series -- it's the first game in Namco Bandai's new "Namco Generations" series. Buying any game in the series, in Japan at least, will provide access to an online newsletter, visible from inside the game.

In announcing the existence of its new PS3/Xbox 360 retro-remake series, Namco went ahead and announced its next two offerings: Aero Cross and a sequel to Galaga Legions. This is the first mention of Galaga Legions DX, and the first official confirmation of Aero Cross, which has shown up in ratings previously. Its status as a Namco Generations game strongly suggests it's a Pac-Man CE-style update of the arcade game Metro-Cross.

We can identify with Pac-Man. No matter how much he consumes, it will never fill the hole in his heart. It's kinda how we feel waiting for Pac-Man Championship Edition DX: empty inside. At least these new screens and trailer make the wait a bit less agonizing.

Pac-Man Championship Edition DX coming to XBLA, PSN this fall

The Pac-Man party continues as Namco Bandai has announced a followup to 2007's excellent Pac-Man Championship Edition: simply, Pac-Man Championship Edition DX. The so-called sequel will launch on Xbox Live Arcade and PlayStation Network this fall, adding new mazes, modes and enhancements to the CE formula.

In fact, DX sounds seriously "deluxe," expanding the original Championship Edition's six mazes to "more than 100 varied and mind-boggling" courses, according to Namco Bandai. Additionally, new modes will include Time Attack Mode, an objective-based Mission Mode and the (devour) Ghost Mode.

We'll look to gobble up more details at Namco Bandai's Pac-Man birthday event tonight. (Old Yellow's turning 30!)
