Mukagosoftware Development's XBLIG rail shooter is reminiscent of Sega's classic not only in that it's about a dragon shooting multiple types of projectiles as it flies across the countryside -- but also in that it looks like a Saturn game.<br />
<br />
The low-budget visuals (a staple of Mukagosoftware games; see <em><a href="http://mukago.game.coocan.jp/xna_action2/index.htm">Blaster and Morion</a></em> and <em><a href="http://mukago.game.coocan.jp/sp/index.htm">Sizonphase</a></em>) result in savings that are passed on to the player. <em>Leucistic Wyvern</em> sells for just 80 Microsoft Points ($1). Check out a charmingly low-quality trailer (made by pointing a camera at a TV) after the break.<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/10/27/xbox-live-indie-game-leucistic-wyvern-looks-familiar/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Xbox Live Indie Game 'Leucistic Wyvern' looks familiar</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/10/27/xbox-live-indie-game-leucistic-wyvern-looks-familiar/">Xbox Live Indie Game 'Leucistic Wyvern' looks familiar</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 27 Oct 2010 02:00:00 EST. Despite looking like <em>Panzer Dragoon</em>, being developed by <em>Panzer Dragoon</em> creator Yukio Futatsugi, having a codename referencing dragons with the same initials as <em>Panzer Dragoon</em> and, most suspiciously, having a codename at all, Microsoft Game Studios VP Phil Spencer told Joystiq he "woudn't call [<em>Project Draco</em>] a <em>Panzer Dragoon</em> game." <br />
<br />
"It's a Kinect game for one thing, which is going to have its own take on it," Spencer said, referring to the concept of riding a dragon. Spencer added that "there are some differences between -- as a <em>Panzer Dragoon</em> fan -- the stuff we've seen in the <em>Panzer Dragoon</em> series and [<em>Project Draco</em>]," but he didn't elaborate on those differences. During the Microsoft keynote where the game was <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/09/15/project-draco-brings-dragons-to-kinect-in-2011/">announced</a>, Futatsugi explained, "What I wanted to do most is to fly." So perhaps <em>Draco</em> is more <em>flying</em> and less on-rails <em>shooting?</em><br />
<br />
So if it's not a <em>Panzer Dragoon</em> game, then what's up with the whole dragons-you-can-ride thing? "Futasugi-san does have a passion for dragons and the interactions between humans and dragons," Spencer said. "I think you could say 'inspired by' and obviously Futatsugi-san's heritage with that franchise is an important part of his history." But Spencer still "wouldn't characterize [<em>Project Draco</em>] as a P<em>anzer Dragoon </em>game."<br />
<br />
"I think there's some great things about the mechanic in <em>Panzer Dragoon</em> that can work really well, but we're not in any way trying to diminish the value of that franchise or steal from it." So we're guessing they're not going to call it "Tank Leviathoon."<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/09/17/project-draco-inspired-by-panzer-dragoon-not-a-panzer-dragoon/">Project Draco 'inspired by' Panzer Dragoon, not a Panzer Dragoon game</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Fri, 17 Sep 2010 15:30:00 EST. Any gamer would need a heart of <em>blackened teak</em> to <span style="font-style: italic;">not </span>have a soft spot for <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/sega">Sega</a>, and there's arguably no better home for a dyed-in-the-wool Sega fan than the Wii. Over the coming weeks and months, Nintendo's little white box will be hosting a number of updated classic Sega properties, including<em> <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/10/19/ign-ponders-nights-place-in-gaming/">NiGHTS: Journey of Dreams</a></em>, <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/09/24/nintendo-power-confirms-samba-de-amigo/"><em>Samba De Amigo</em></a>, and <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/12/07/house-of-the-dead-screens-return/"><em>House of the Dead 2 &amp; 3 Return</em></a>.<br /><br />But our appetite for all things Sega is not yet sated! While we've <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/03/18/wii-warm-up-sega-saturn-shiro/">already</a> asked you which <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/saturn">Saturn</a> games you'd like to see on the Virtual Console, which Sega titles <span style="font-style: italic;">in general</span> do you want to see reinvented on the Wii? A motion-sensitive <em>Panzer Dragoon</em>, the return of <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Space_Channel_Five">Ulala</a>, and a <em>Burning Rangers</em> sequel top our list.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/12/09/wii-warm-up-saaaaaaaaaay-ga/">Wii Warm Up: SAAAAAAAAAAY-GA!</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Sun, 09 Dec 2007 10:30:00 EST.
