You'll be able to spin off some psy-force as <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Phoenix_Force_(comics)">the Phoenix</a>, embodied by the X-Man Jean Grey, and take command of <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Veranke">the Skrull queen Veranke</a>, among others. It's not surprising to see a big "Secret Invasion" influence, given <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/06/04/avengers-battle-for-earth-to-bring-the-pain-this-fall/">the game's initial trailer</a>. See the full list after the break.<br /><br /><em>Avengers: Battle for Earth</em> will have you and your friends jumping around and debating the correct time for clobberin' on November 9. If you want to see some of these heroes throwing down right away, there's <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/10/01/marvel-avengers-battle-for-earth-demo-assembles-on-xbox-live/">a demo available for download</a> in the meantime.<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/10/19/avengers-battle-for-earth-features-favorites-familiar-faces/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Avengers: Battle for Earth features favorites, familiar faces</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/10/19/avengers-battle-for-earth-features-favorites-familiar-faces/">Avengers: Battle for Earth features favorites, familiar faces</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Fri, 19 Oct 2012 02:30:00 EST. His moves include a lot of stuff that should be familiar to Final Fighters, including a big swing of a pipe and a super combo made entirely of a single, repeated punch. Haggar appeared on the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/11/15/rumor-marvel-vs-capcom-3-roster-to-include-mega-man-frank-wes/">leaked roster</a> we had, offering some support for the authenticity of that list.<br />
<br />
Another trailer reveals the inclusion of Phoenix -- not the <a href="http://joystiq.com/tag/phoenix-wright">lawyer</a>, before you get too excited -- the unstable version of telekinetic X-men character, Jean Grey. She <em>wasn't</em> on our leaked roster. OK, so next week's <a href="http://www.rockband.com/forums/showthread.php?t=180502"><em>Rock Band</em> DLC</a> doesn't include "Mary Jane's Last Dance" (pictured above) -- that was included in the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/11/20/rock-band-weekly-tom-petty-go-gos-kelly-clarkson-pink/">previous Tom Petty live anthology pack</a> -- but that video is all we can think of when someone mentions Petty. Well, that and the "Don't Come Around Here No More" video, which had Petty playing The Mad Hatter and is also positively frightening -- but that song is in neither pack. Beyond Petty memories of our broken childhood, next week's update also includes tracks from Phoenix and Silvertide.<br />

Cue the <a href="http://ca.youtube.com/watch?v=KdmLmIArqWM">Semisonic</a>, folks. After nearly 15 years, Dallas-based strategy developer <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/Ensemble-Studios/">Ensemble Studios</a> has closed its doors for good. While its library of classic releases are well known to gamers worldwide, a host of concept images for unannounced games were spotted during a recent studio tour by <a href="http://www.gamasutra.com/view/feature/3919/ensemble_studios_the_last_tour.php">Gamasutra</a>. Among the titles left to collect dust with so many cardboard boxes are a fantasy-adventure RPG called <em>Sorcerer,</em> a platformer called <em>Bam</em> and a game described as "<em>Diablo</em> in space," called <em>Nova.</em><br /> <br /> Also revealed in the tour was a concept for a game named <em>Phoenix</em>, which would eventually become the upcoming RTS <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/Halo-Wars/">Halo Wars</a></em>. Fun fact: <em>Phoenix</em> is a regularly used codename by Bungie Studios according to its official <a href="http://www.bungie.net/News/Blog.aspx?mode=tags&amp;tag=8">podcast</a>, but Ensemble's use of the name was purely coincidental.<br /> <br />It isn't completely bad news for some of Ensemble's former staff, as many will help establish a new studio headed by Ensemble co-founder Tony Goodman. As big fans of the <em>Age of Empires</em> series, we here at Joystiq wish everyone leaving Ensemble Studios the very best of luck and continued success with future projects.<br /> <br /> [Via <a href="http://news.bigdownload.com/2009/02/02/ensembles-unannounced-games-revealed/">BigDownload</a>]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/02/02/closing-time-ensembles-unannounced-titles-revealed/">Closing Time: Ensemble's unannounced titles revealed</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Mon, 02 Feb 2009 19:33:00 EST. Generally, when it comes to the DS, we tend to associate the name "Phoenix" with <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/phoenix-wright/">good things</a>. European publisher Phoenix Games, though, is determined to break the mold, tainting the name we've come to know and love on our handhelds. The company is bringing twelve games to the DS this year (with twelve Wii titles to match), none of which sound fun unless you like the sound of <em>Jungle Crew</em>, <em>Love Heart</em>, and <em>Dalmatians 4</em>.<br /><br />Grabbed from the bowels of the "rejected game ideas" pile, these twelve games probably never even had a chance. Of course, if they're developed with care, we'd be able to overlook some bad concept decisions. Seeing how Phoenix is popping them out faster than an over-sexed rabbit, though, we doubt this is the case. <br /><br />Even though these games are budget titles and obviously marketed to kids, we don't think we're being too harsh. Phoenix has a track record for releasing <a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LBdvkjK92-Y&amp;feature=related">awful</a> titles, and we wouldn't recommend subjecting children to these horrors. <br /><br />For a list of what games to expect from Phoenix, check out the company's website <a href="http://www.phoenixgamesgroup.com/uk/ds.html">here</a>.<br /><br />[Via <a href="http://gonintendo.com/?p=36572">GoNintendo</a>]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/02/28/phoenix-plans-twelve-games-to-avoid-this-year/">Phoenix plans twelve games to avoid this year</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 28 Feb 2008 15:00:00 EST. Basically, the full page appears on the bottom screen, and one panel at a time is zoomed in on the top screen. It's a very similar approach to <a href="http://www.marvel.com/digitalcomics/">Marvel Digital Comics</a>' Smart Panels viewing style. We just hope that, unlike with Smart Panels, you are also able to move the panel view around manually in order to see more than just the focal point of each panel.<br /><br />The 12 volumes of <em>Phoenix</em> are being divided into three DS cartridges, each retailing for 4,179 yen ($37). $37 isn't terrible for four books' worth of manga, but collecting whole series in DS format could still become painful <em>quickly</em>.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/12/19/now-we-want-all-our-comics-in-ds-form/">Now we want all our comics in DS form</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 19 Dec 2007 09:45:00 EST. You may expect some terrible DS platformer or something to be built from this comic license from legendary <em>Astro Boy</em> creator <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Osamu_Tezuka">Osamu Tezuka</a>, but that is not <em>at all</em> what developer Compile Heart is doing. <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Phoenix_%28manga%29"><em>Phoenix</em></a> (also known as <em>Hi no Tori</em>/<em>Fire Bird</em>) is coming to the DS in its <em>original form. </em>As manga.<br /><br /><em>DS de Yomu Tezuka Osamu Hi no Tori</em> is a collection of <em>Phoenix</em> comics to be read on the DS, featuring extra visual and sound effects (such as the screen shaking to emphasize a dramatic panel). Of course, other helpful features like bookmarking are also included. No word as to how much of the <em>Phoenix</em> backlog will be covered in this collection, though we doubt it's the whole thing. It'll be released in May for 4,179 yen ($37.50). If it works out, Compile Heart will expand the <em>Read on DS</em> series.<br /><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/12/10/osamu-tezukas-phoenix-coming-to-the-ds/">Osamu Tezuka's Phoenix coming to the DS</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Mon, 10 Dec 2007 14:15:00 EST. We're slowly gathering entries for our yet-to-be-announced <em>Phoenix Wright</em> Shirt Makers' Club. These elite <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/crafts">crafters </a>have decided to express their fandom for <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/Capcom/">Capcom</a>'s graphic <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/adventure/">adventure</a> series and its characters in the most reverent way they know: by giving Phoenix Wright a <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/01/02/diy-make-your-own-phoenix-wright-shirt/">place of honor</a> on the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/01/11/yet-another-phoenix-wright-shirt-we-want/">front of a t-shirt</a>. <br /><br />The latest, from reader Maxy, goes beyond the limitations of home crafting. Maxy's sister has access to professional apparel-printing machinery at a uniform company, and transferred this iconic image of Phoenix on what looks like a 3/4 sleeve baseball shirt. Maya Fey, as pictured on the <a href="http://www.ncsxshop.com/cgi-bin/shop/NTR-P-AGYJ-N.html"><em>Gyakuten Saiban </em>boxart</a>, appears on the back. It's kind of unfair that we can't follow Maxy's example and make one of these! It may be unfair enough to warrant an OBJECTION! <br /><br />No, it's just kind of unfair.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/07/17/more-fan-created-phoenix-wright-ace-apparel/">More fan-created Phoenix Wright: Ace Apparel</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 17 Jul 2007 11:50:00 EST. We don't expect this deal to last for long, so race your shopping cart to the checkout lane as fast as your feet will allow.<br /><br />If for some reason, God forbid, you haven't played <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/phoenix%20wright"><em>Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney</em></a> yet and are hesitant to start the series midway through, don't forget that you can also pick up a used copy at GameStop or EB Games for as low as $21.99! We admit, that's still pretty expensive for a game as old as this one, but it's better than paying full price. All you'll need to take advantage of this sorta-bargain is <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/07/13/save-5-on-overpriced-used-games-at-eb-gs/">the coupon we posted</a> earlier this morning.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/07/13/phoenix-wright-sales-for-all/">Phoenix Wright: Sales for All</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Fri, 13 Jul 2007 14:50:00 EST. <div align="left">We hinted in the <em>Phoenix Wright</em> <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/06/13/japanese-phoenix-wright-3-gets-boring-bonus/">covers post</a> that we're <em>completely</em> in the thrall of the preorder bonus. Sometimes, a free thing that we don't really want will help tip the scales in favor of buying a game. We were totally going to get <em>Gyakuten Saiban 3 </em>anyway, but now we're feeling more pressure to get our preorder in expediently.<br /></div>
</div>
<br />Have <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/dsd">you</a> felt this way? Are you drawn to free stuff that isn't really that great, because it's <em>free</em>, and because it's got pictures of characters from games you like? Does it influence your decision to purchase the game? <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2006/12/06/castlevania-portrait-of-unboxing/">Really</a> <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/04/27/death-jr-and-the-preorder-stylus-of-doom/">cool</a> stuff</em> we understand, but we're talking about a 'meh' bonus that drives you to change your purchasing habits. We'll put it another way: Who's got the <em>Pokemon</em> <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/02/17/gotta-pre-catch-em-all-pokemon-preorder-bonuses/">stylus holder</a>?<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/06/15/ds-daily-bonus-get/">DS Daily: Bonus GET</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Fri, 15 Jun 2007 09:00:00 EST. We were taken aback by these screens of <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/06/07/harry-potter-and-the-free-movie-tickets/">Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix</a>.</em> They look <em>fantastic.</em> It could be using prerendered backgrounds to display these artistic views of Hogwarts, but whatever it is, it's working. Whenever Harry is walking around the (strangely empty) building, it's breathtaking, and one of the nicest-looking <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/adventure/">adventure</a> games we've seen on any platform.<br /><br />And then we see the <em>other</em> screenshots. The combat-- for which you apparently rotate the DS <em>Brain Age</em> style, and the magical minigames. They might be fun, but they don't quite evoke <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ico"><em>ICO</em></a> in the same way as the environments do. Oh, well, this is still amazing for an <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/EA/">EA</a> licensed game.<br /><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/06/13/harry-potter-and-the-gallery-of-screenshots/">Harry Potter and the Gallery of Screenshots</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 13 Jun 2007 16:00:00 EST. If you buy the Japanese Best Price release of <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/05/25/ace-attorney-trials-and-english-translations/"><em>Gyakuten Saiban 3</em></a>-- cue the chorus of "don't buy it or <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/Capcom/">Capcom</a> won't localize the next one"-- you may be entitled to a set of reversible box covers for the whole series of DS releases. It looks like they're designed so you can store 2 games to a case. <br /><br />However, the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/phoenixwright"><em>Gyakuten Saiban</em></a> series <em>already</em> uses a <a href="http://www.4colorrebellion.com/archives/2007/05/29/a-very-brief-history-of-the-gyakuten-saiban-series/">consistent boxart design</a> in Japan, meaning that all four of the DS games already match. And on top of that, the design for these bonuses is significantly less interesting than the original boxart. Of course, we're still getting this thing.<br /><br />We wish it was nicer-looking, but it's lovely of Capcom to hand out bonus stuff in general. We hope these get included with import orders (that's right, we're ordering the import!)<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/06/13/japanese-phoenix-wright-3-gets-boring-bonus/">Japanese Phoenix Wright 3 gets boring bonus</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 13 Jun 2007 13:00:00 EST. <div align="left">Anyone care to join us in a mournful, dejected "OBJECTION!"? We don't necessarily object to the release of a soundtrack CD for <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/search/?q=Gyakuten%20Saiban%204">Gyakuten Saiban 4</a></em>-- quite the opposite! We object to the Japan-only status of the release, and the similar lack of availability of its counterpart game. We haven't even heard the music from the game to know if it's worth buying, but the two US-released games have had great music. We just ... <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2006/11/15/special-edition-gyakuten-saiban-4-comes-with-dictionary/">need</a> <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/02/23/japan-gets-a-gyakuten-saiban-4-calendar-and-we-dont-objection/">more</a> <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/04/11/let-your-fingers-do-the-objecting-gyakuten-saiban-4-cell-phone/"><em>stuff</em></a> with cartoon lawyers on it, because we love the cartoon lawyer games <em>so much!</em><br /><br />While we're throwing useless objections out, we'd like to register our <em>disgust</em> with the prices of Japanese CD's. 3150 yen ($26) is actually on the <em>low end</em> of CD prices.<br /></div>

We still get occasional comments from confused readers who can't decipher which <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/gyakuten"><em>Gyakuten Saiban</em></a> games correlate to which <em>Ace Attorney </em>games. This has been especially confusing recently, as <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/05/28/box-art-and-images-from-ds-gyakuten-saiban-3/"><em>Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney: Trials and Tribulations</em></a> (based on <em>Gyakuten Saiban <strong>3</strong></em>) was announced for the US at the same time as <em>Gyakuten Saiban <strong>4 </strong></em>was being released in Japan.<br />
<br />
4cr must have gotten similar confused comments, but, unlike us, they decided to do something about it. Well, we're doing something about it now, but it's just linking their article, which is much easier. They've written a history of the series, detailing exactly which games were ported from the GBA, and the US and Japanese titles of each game. If this is too academic, you can always buy every lawyery-looking game you see, and figure it out when you get home.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/05/30/gyakuten-saiban-timeline/">Gyakuten Saiban timeline</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 30 May 2007 10:00:00 EST. Don't object to our speculation, but <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/Capcom/">Capcom</a> has registered a trademark that sounds like it may have relevance in our daily lives. "Apollo Justice" ... hmm. The first name is taken from a <a href="http://www.loggia.com/myth/apollo.html">mythological figure</a>, one associated with <em>law</em> and <em>truth</em>, and the last name is also legal-themed. Oh, we got it-- this is the name of the next <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/ResidentEvil/">Resident Evil</a> </em>game.<br /><br />Oh, or <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/phoenixwright">Ace Attorney</a>.</em> "Apollo Justice" would be a pretty good name for Odoroki Housuke, the protagonist of <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/04/30/gyakutan-saiban-4-impressions/">Gyakuten Saiban 4</a>.</em> And if that's what the trademark is for, then it's a good sign for those of us hoping for a localized version.<br /><br />[Via <a href="http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showthread.php?t=159543">NeoGAF</a>]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/05/29/capcom-registers-apollo-justice-trademark/">Capcom registers "Apollo Justice" trademark</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 29 May 2007 14:00:00 EST. Es kann sehr n&uuml;tzlich sein, but it doesn't allow us to play <em>Gyakuten Saiban 4</em> anytime soon. Luckily, the guys at <a href="http://www.siliconera.com">Siliconera</a> have our backs.<br /><br />They've run through the Phoenix-less title's first case, and have gotten a fairly good idea of where the series is going. Rest assured, the quality of the plotting seems wholly intact, and the guys are enjoying the fully-integrated DS features (a la case 5 of the localized <em>Phoenix Wright: Attorney at Law</em>). It's no surprise that <em>being on the DS</em> boosted sales; it's likely to boost sales of <em>anything. </em>But let's not diminish the accomplishment. <em>Gyakuten Saiban 4 </em>is a hit! <br /><br />This milestone has contributed strongly to another milestone: as of today, the <em>Gyakuten Saiban (<a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/phoenix">Phoenix</a> Wright)</em> series has shipped 2 million copies in Japan alone. That's pretty great for any series, much less a text <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/adventure">adventure</a> series! Each day, a different member of the staff will present their personal top five DS games along with a snapshot of their gaming paraphernalia and habits, in an effort to provide our readers with a little more information on the tastes and personalities of our writers.</span><br /><span style="font-style: italic;"><br /></span>It's odd; in the past two years, I've played my DS more than any other system, console or otherwise. However, I very rarely play outside of the comfort of my own room. Sure, I have the ten minute bus ride to campus everyday, and an hour break between classes, but the bus ride is relaxing and the hour I spend on campus, playing chess with some friends. It's really a testament to the quality of the library on the DS, that it would stand against the heavy-hitting consoles without the added advantage of portability.<br /><br />I'm a bit of a Renaissance gamer, playing titles far and wide. Sure, I've grown tired of the World War II shooters, but if a game is innovative and/or well-crafted, I'll give it a shot. I also like bunnies and salsa dancing and figure skating; I'm so <em>macho</em>.<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/04/19/ds-fanboy-favorites-jasons-top-five/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>DS Fanboy Favorites: Jason's top five</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/04/19/ds-fanboy-favorites-jasons-top-five/">DS Fanboy Favorites: Jason's top five</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 19 Apr 2007 10:00:00 EST. They've already locked in their orders for <a href="http://www.amazon.com/Harry-Potter-Deathly-Hallows-Book/dp/0545010225"><em>Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows</em></a>, the 7th and last book in the series. The movies and games, unfortunately, lag far behind their literary brethren thanks to very long production schedules. As such, we're just now rolling around to <em>Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix</em> -- the 5th book -- on the big screen and in video game form. Still, if the early screens (courtesy of <a href="http://www.x360daily.com/2007/04/17/order-of-the-phoenix-screenshots/">X360 Daily</a>) are anything to go by, the game looks to be shaping up quite nicely. The character models are very detailed, and the spell effects look decent too. We also know that the game is getting a sandbox-style makeover, so fans should really get a kick out of exploring Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. Hit the "read" link to check out more screens.<br /><br />[Thanks, Pete]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/04/17/avada-kedavra-new-harry-potter-screens/">Avada Kedavra! That's just a bit of fun sensationalism from your responsible journalist friends at Wii Fanboy.<br /><br />We're really invoking the <em>GTA </em>name because <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/ea">EA</a> UK's new game is going to feature the <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sandbox_(video_games)">sandbox</a>-style gameplay made famous by Rockstar's series. Mission triggers will be hidden all over, and you are free to explore and take on side missions. This means that you'll potentially have more choice to explore Hogwarts and the surrounding areas than Harry Potter ever did, as he seems to get railroaded from situation to situation without any choice at all. Uh, not that we ever read ... or saw ... any Harry Potter stuff. Oh, never mind-- we're all about children's books. That's right.<br /><br />Also, one of the most obvious <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/wiimote">Wiimote</a> uses <em>ever</em> has been implemented: Wiimote as wand. Wiimote gestures will allow you to cast spells and manipulate levitated objects. <br />
What's the opposite of OBJECTION!? Oh, we know! APPROVAL! A Gamecrazy employee posted this screen from his store's computer system over on the awesome <em>Phoenix Wright</em> fansite <a href="http://www.court-records.net/">Court Records</a>. It shows a game called <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/phoenix">PHOENIX WRIGHT</a>-TRIALS TRIBU</em>, to be released on September 25. We'll go ahead and deduce that the full title would be <em>Phoenix Wright: Trials and Tribulations</em>, and that since it names Phoenix in the title and not the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/gyakuten">new guy</a>, that this is a DS port of <em>Gyakuten Saiban 3.</em><br />
<br />
Retail computer systems aren't the most reliable sources of information, but we doubt Gamecrazy would make up a title. Plus, we've had <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/02/14/help-bring-gyakutan-saiban-3-to-america/">evidence</a> that <em>GS3</em> was going to be localized for a while. <br />
<br />
Now, if you'll excuse us, we're going to go to Gamecrazy and reserve our copy of the game. If they aren't open yet, we'll just break in. <a href="http://www.55srwa.org/gallery/55_glr_pic61.html">No problem</a>!<br />

Ever since we <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/03/27/gyakuten-saiban-4-hates-english-speakers/">learned</a> that we wouldn't be able to play the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/japanese">Japanese</a> release in English, we've had to turn to alternate means to get our daily allowance of fake Japanese law. We refresh the <em>GS4 </em><a href="http://www.capcom.co.jp/saiban4/">website</a> obsessively, play the translated <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/04/02/gyakuten-saiban-4-demo-translation-is-a-heroic-effort/">demo</a> until it hits question-mark land, and shout "<a href="http://objection.mrdictionary.net/index.php">OBJECTION</a>" at every opportunity that is even a little appropriate.<br /><br />We found some screens on <em>Famitsu</em> to torture ourselves with. They show the intro to the second case, a witness in Chapter 1, and Chapter 2's defendant. If you want to make yourself feel bad about the lack of <em>Ace Attorney</em> in your life, then by all means, have a look. If you can't handle the wait, we suggest trying to put the whole thing out of your mind.<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/04/08/new-gyakuten-saiban-4-screens/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>New Gyakuten Saiban 4 screens</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/04/08/new-gyakuten-saiban-4-screens/">New Gyakuten Saiban 4 screens</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Sun, 08 Apr 2007 13:52:00 EST. In fact, savvy importers were able to play the superlative <em>Phoenix Wright 2: Justice For All</em> back in October, months before their blissfully ignorant counterparts.<br /><br />Alas, it appears that the next installment of the series, <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gyakuten_Saiban_4"><em>Gyakuten Saiban 4</em></a>, will not contain an English language option for importers. However, we would like to note that <em>GS4</em>, though the third title in the series to be released on the DS in Japan, is precluded by the currently GBA-only <em>Gyakuten Saiban 3</em>, <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/02/14/help-bring-gyakutan-saiban-3-to-america/">which has not yet been localized in any form</a>. According to preliminary reports, the storylines of <em>GS3 </em>and <em>GS4</em> are not directly related (<em>GS4</em> doesn't even star our man Phoenix), but you never know with those crafty writers.<br /><br />For people not completely obsessed with <em>Phoenix Wright</em>, <strike>please rip out your own colon</strike> please ignore the above paragraph and simply know that you won't be able to import <em>GS4 </em>from Japan.<br /><br />&gt;.&gt;<br /><br />[Via <a href="http://www.siliconera.com/index.php/2007/03/27/sorry-importers-gyakuten-saiban-4-is-japanese-only/">Siliconera</a>]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/03/27/gyakuten-saiban-4-hates-english-speakers/">Gyakuten Saiban 4 hates English speakers</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 27 Mar 2007 17:30:00 EST. One in particular, belonging to "Scarlett," is especially cool because it features an interview with a member of the <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/phoenixwright">Phoenix Wright</a> Ace Attorney</em> <em>Justice For All</em> localization staff, Janet Hsu!<br /><br />The interview provides some fairly interesting information about working at Capcom Japan, and about trying to make something as Japanese as <em>Gyakuten Saiban</em> make sense to American audiences. There's also the incredible statement from Ms. Hsu that she only took Japanese classes for about 2 years before coming to Japan. Certain <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/bloggers/jc-fletcher">members</a> of the DS Fanboy Blogging Squad have taken much more Japanese than that and can't translate their way out of a paper bag. It's official: Janet Hsu is our new hero, and so are her colleagues <a href="http://blogs.capcomusa.com/blogs/scarlett.php/2007/02/20/interview_jp_kellams_of_capcom_japan_loc">JP Kellams</a> and <a href="http://blogs.capcomusa.com/blogs/scarlett.php/2007/02/05/interview_brandon_gay_of_capcom_japan_tr">Brandon Gay</a>.<br /><br />[Via <a href="http://www.gamesetwatch.com/2007/03/capcoms_localization_chops_rev_1.php">GameSetWatch</a>]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/03/21/capcom-blogger-interviews-phoenix-wright-localization-staff/">Capcom blogger interviews Phoenix Wright localization staff</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 21 Mar 2007 16:00:00 EST. But, and this is where a lot of the system's publicity comes from, there has also been an explosion of new genres and new experiences, as well as revivals of past trends. So, as hardcore gamers (the kind who read game blogs), has your gaming universe been expanded by the DS? Have you taken part in any completely new experiences? Played your first <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/phoenixwright">graphical</a> <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/hoteldusk">text </a>adventure? Minigame collection? Whatever <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/brainage">Brain Age</a> </em>was?<br /><br />Or maybe what you discovered on the DS is something popular that you just missed out on for some reason, like <em>Final Fantasy</em> or <em>Castlevania</em>. We want to <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/dsd">hear</a> about your experiences! We want to know how the DS has affected your gaming tastes! We want to know how you classify <em>Brain Age!</em><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/03/04/ds-daily-new-horizons/">DS Daily: New horizons</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Sun, 04 Mar 2007 11:00:00 EST. It mentions that the publisher is "focusing on the PC and Nintendo <span class="iAs" style="border-bottom: 0.075em solid darkgreen; font-weight: normal; font-size: 100%; text-decoration: underline; color: darkgreen; background-color: transparent; padding-bottom: 1px;"></span>DS markets", <em>not the game. </em>We apologize for the misunderstanding. Thanks to eric c for the correction!]<br /><br />Before the episodic <em>Sam &amp; Max</em> games, Telltale Games were known among adventure game holdouts for their adaptations of Jeff Smith's <a href="http://www.boneville.com/"><em>Bone</em></a> comic series. They followed a similar business model: periodic, bite-sized chunks of delicious puzzle solving, set in cult comic book trappings.<br /><br />Now publisher Xider is bringing the <em>Bone </em>games to the <strike>DS</strike> PC and <strong>unidentified games to the DS </strong>in Europe in 2007. We hope that they decide to bring them stateside as well, and that they <em>don't</em> decide to shoehorn <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/trace">weird</a> touch screen/microphone puzzles into what is supposed to be a pretty good <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/adventure">adventure</a> series. <strong>It's still possible, but the identities of the DS games have yet to be announced.</strong><br /><br />We're so <em>proud</em> of our little DS, bringing back two of our favorite long-lost game genres: the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/phoenixwright">graphical</a> <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/hoteldusk">text</a> adventure and the 3D <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/layton">adventure</a> <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/lostinblue">game</a>.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/02/27/bone-ds-adventure-renaissance-continues/">Bone: DS adventure renaissance continues [update 1]</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 27 Feb 2007 14:30:00 EST.
