<a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/gameloft">Gameloft</a> hasn't made much movement in the Android market <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/11/24/gameloft-talks-up-android-support-wait-what/">since it promised</a> to support the mobile platform last November. However, earlier today, the company launched 10 of its 3D games (all of which are currently available on iPhone) on a handful of Android-based handsets. <a href="http://www.pocketgamer.co.uk/r/Android/Gameloft+news/news.asp?c=20748">PocketGamer reports</a> that if you're rocking a Sony Ericsson Xperia X10, HTC Desire, Motorola Milestone, Motorola Motoroi or a Google Nexus One, you can now purchase one of the following titles:
<ul>
    <li><em>Asphalt 5<br />
    </em></li>
    <li><em>Let's Golf!<br />
    </em></li>
    <li><em>Assassin's Creed<br />
    </em></li>
    <li><em>Hero of Sparta<br />
    </em></li>
    <li><em>Gangstar: West Coast Hustle<br />
    </em></li>
    <li><em>Dungeon Hunter<br />
    </em></li>
    <li><em>Real Football 2010<br />
    </em></li>
    <li><em>N.O.V.A. Near Orbit Vanguard Alliance<br />
    </em></li>
    <li><em>Modern Combat: Sandstorm<br />
    </em></li>
    <li><em>Tom Clancy's H.A.W.X</em></li>
</ul>
You can check out a video of these games running on the aforementioned mobile devices, as well as instructions on how to purchase them, just past the jump.<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/05/19/gameloft-brings-a-selection-of-games-to-android/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Gameloft brings a selection of games to Android</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/05/19/gameloft-brings-a-selection-of-games-to-android/">Gameloft brings a selection of games to Android</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 19 May 2010 06:30:00 EST. Well gang, it's been a long time coming, but it seems we're finally going to get <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/live-anywhere">the Live Anywhere integration</a> Microsoft began teasing <em>four whole years</em> ago. We're finding it awfully difficult to be jaded, however, as the mobile counterpart to Xbox Live will make its debut on <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2010/02/15/windows-phone-7-series-is-official-and-microsoft-is-playing-to/?s=t5">the recently announced Windows Phone 7</a> -- a sleek little device which we're periodically switching between browser tabs to ogle. Click past the jump to <a href="http://www.windowsphone7series.com/multimedia/Media2">see a demo</a> of the phone's capabilities.<br />
<br />
According to <a href="http://online.wsj.com/article/BT-CO-20100215-704145.html?mod=WSJ_latestheadlines">a Microsoft press release</a>, the Xbox Live integration on Windows' new mobile platform "delivers the first and only official Xbox LIVE experience on a phone, including Xbox LIVE games, Spotlight feed and the ability to see a gamer's avatar, Achievements and gamer profile." We've contacted Microsoft to find out <em>exactly</em> what types of games are going to be offered on the device. We hope its the same lot that's <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/zune-hd">available on the Zune HD</a> -- the more electronic devices on which we can play <em>Audiosurf</em>, the better.<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/02/15/windows-phone-7-announced-includes-xbox-live-support/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Windows Phone 7 announced, includes Xbox Live support</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/02/15/windows-phone-7-announced-includes-xbox-live-support/">Windows Phone 7 announced, includes Xbox Live support</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Mon, 15 Feb 2010 09:51:00 EST. Let's get this out of the way at the top: No, Sony's <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/aino">Aino phone</a>, which touts <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/09/01/sony-ericssons-aino-is-almost-a-psp-phone-but-not-really/">limited PS3 Remote Play functionality</a>, can't access any of the PSN or PSP games you may have hoped it would. However, <a href="http://blog.eu.playstation.com/2009/10/13/sony-ericsson-launches-the-aino-today/">a recent Playstation.Blog post</a> revealed the crosstalk capabilities imbued within the mobile device (which hit store shelves today) -- while it may lack ludo-logical punch, it's packing some impressive multimedia tools.<br /> <br /> After registering your Aino with your PS3, you'll be able to use your phone to access the XMB, browse the internet, watch any non-DRM'd media on your console, send and receive PSN messages, shop in the PlayStation Store and watch TV shows using the PlayTV service. Best of all, you can use your phone to turn your PS3 on and off, which should prove handy when you attempt to convince your roommate that your entertainment center is haunted.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/10/13/sony-aino-phone-launches-today-with-limited-ps3-remote-play-capa/">Sony Aino phone launches today with limited PS3 Remote Play capabilities</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 13 Oct 2009 14:30:00 EST. It's true that we haven't played a "video game" on a cellular device (at least, one that wasn't an iPhone) since <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Snake_(video_game)">our lengthy <em>Snake</em> sessions</a> back in 1999 -- though we imagine there's a contingency of folks out there who get excited for mobile adaptations of console games. For instance, you may find yourself thrilled about <a href="http://www.businesswire.com/portal/site/home/permalink/?ndmViewId=news_view&amp;newsId=20090624005339&amp;newsLang=en">Glu's next mobile project</a> -- a version of <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/Modern-Warfare-2/">Modern Warfare 2</a></em> that's coming to Androids, Blackberrys, BREWs, J2MEs and Windows Mobile phones in Q4 of this year.<br /><br />The only piece of media we have for the game is shown above -- really tantalizing stuff there, Glu -- though we imagine the gameplay will resemble that of the <em>World at War</em> port the studio developed last year, only with <a href="http://www.glu.com/noram/pages/product.aspx?pr=Call+of+Duty%3a+World+at+War">a <em>tad</em> less flame throwing</a>.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/06/24/glu-developing-modern-warfare-2-for-mobile-phones/">Glu developing Modern Warfare 2 for mobile phones</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 24 Jun 2009 23:00:00 EST. Sadly, the <a href="http://www.sonyericsson.com/cws/corporate/press/pressreleases/pressreleasedetails/key.PressResource.Aino_press_release_final-20090528">Sony Aino</a> mobile phone isn't the fabled <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/psp-phone">PSPhone</a>, but it does support one feature from the handheld device. Using the phone, you will be able to access your PS3 via <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/remote-play">Remote Play</a> and, because the device is 3G enabled, you won't have to rely on Wi-Fi access. Once connected, you'll be able to stream movies, images and music from your hard disk drive. <br /><br />Europeans will also be able to access <em>PlayTV</em>, allowing them to view, pause and rewind live television, as well as setting programs to record from afar. There's no indication of whether the phone will have access to the PlayStation Network store or the friends list, but that would be the icing on an already tasty cake. Having this feature on a cell phone makes <em>perfect</em> sense -- hopefully this is something that will become a lot more prevalent in the future. Who knows, one day we might see a Remote Play iPhone app. We'd love that. <br /><br />[Via <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2009/05/28/sony-ericsson-adds-yari-and-aino-to-its-multimedia-line/">Engadget</a>]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/05/28/access-your-ps3-anywhere-with-the-sony-aino-cell-phone/">Access your PS3 anywhere with the Sony Aino cell phone</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 28 May 2009 16:45:00 EST. <br />Midas wasn't sure what he should do when the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/phone">phone</a>, which sat unattended across from him, began to beep. His father left the handset on the chair before stepping away for a moment, and Midas was too young to know what the appropriate action would be for situations such as these.<br /><br />Would it be rude if he answered the phone? How would he explain to the caller that his father was currently indisposed? What exactly does "indisposed" mean, anyway?<br /><br />Children aren't known for their patience, so it was only a few seconds before Midas hopped off his chair, peeked at the mobile's screen to see if it was a number he recognized, and lifted the phone to his ear.<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/09/03/the-ds-life-prank-call/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>The DS Life: Prank call</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/09/03/the-ds-life-prank-call/">The DS Life: Prank call</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 03 Sep 2008 23:59:00 EST. Hands on your buzzers. What two companies partnered during this year's <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/leipzig-08">Leipzig Games Convention</a> to bring "key" PlayStation franchises to mobile carriers in the European market? Quickly now. 3 ... 2 ...1... <em>buzzcrak!</em> The correct answer, had you answered on time, would have been Sony and UK mobile games publisher Player X, though we can forgive your tardiness given that the duo's idea of a pivotal franchise is likely to differ from what you have in mind. <br /><br />No, rather than whipping Kratos' Blades of Chaos with the number 4 key on your handset, or tapping a put into the cup with the 9 in a miniaturized version of <em>Hot Shots Golf</em>, the companies have announced plans to bring virtual quiz show <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/buzz">Buzz!</a> </em>and Reflection's original PlayStation racer <em>Destruction Derby</em> to mobile phones this fall and in early 2009, respectively. True, neither of these inspire us to reach for our phones just yet. However, Sony adds that the deal, a first for Sony Computer Entertainment Worldwide Studios with an outsider, will continue to bring PlayStation luminaries to mobile phones in Europe for the next three years. Thanks for playing.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/08/21/gc-2008-buzz-destruction-derby-going-mobile-in-europe/">GC 2008: Buzz!, Destruction Derby going mobile in Europe</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 21 Aug 2008 01:00:00 EST. Tired of waiting for Sony to make their own PSP phone, a hacker created his own functional prototype. By gutting out the UMD drive from the PSP, he made room for a fancy touch screen phone. It's impressive, although some may complain that this is nothing more than a fancy piecemeal job, as there's no real integration between the PSP gaming compartment and the phone itself.<br /><br />[Thanks, NukeAssault! While the jury hasn't even begun to assemble to decide if gaming on the iPhone is going to set records and become an extremely viable platform, we already know some those time-wasting casual games are addictive and fun.<br /><br />Zecil Software is jumping into the fray with <a href="http://phobos.apple.com/WebObjects/MZStore.woa/wa/viewSoftware?id=286233680&amp;mt=8"><em>iBreakout</em></a>, now available for $4.99 in the iPhone App Store, and it promises "75 meticulously crafted levels, with striking graphics, featuring 50 different backgrounds!" Striking graphics? Well, if by striking they mean you can make the ball hit the bricks, then okay. However, you can submit your high scores to leaderboard right from your phone, which is fairly nifty. Try breaking out of it at your own risk.<br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/ibreakout/">iBreakout</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/ibreakout/#954055"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2008/07/7_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/ibreakout/#954054"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2008/07/6_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/ibreakout/#954053"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2008/07/8_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/ibreakout/#954052"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2008/07/9_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/ibreakout/#954051"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2008/07/10_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/08/01/ibreakout-hurls-balls-at-ibrick-in-the-iwall/">iBreakout hurls balls at iBrick in the iWall</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Fri, 01 Aug 2008 05:00:00 EST. If you call the Vault-Tec toll free hotline at 1-888-4-VAULTTEC (dang novelty 800 numbers!), you'll be stuck on immediate hold and told there are 101,000,000 callers in front of you ... which leads to an extremely long hold time. In fact, a mutant voice lets you know it's about 78,643 hours (unless we're hearing it wrong). We checked back to see if it's counting down, and it doesn't seem to be.<br /><br />Any hackers out there with Rain Man-like number skillz who want to try and decode what this could possibly mean for <span style="font-style: italic;">Fallout 3</span>? Maybe it's the date of the apocalypse. Have at it, and have fun. Also, please don't stay on hold that long and blame us later. If you're phonically challenged, just watch our special Joystiq audio-only recording of the call posted after the break.<br /><br />[Thanks, Robert]<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/07/15/fallout-3s-vault-tec-toll-free-number-wants-you-to-hold-forever/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Fallout 3's Vault-Tec toll-free number wants you to hold forever</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/07/15/fallout-3s-vault-tec-toll-free-number-wants-you-to-hold-forever/">Fallout 3's Vault-Tec toll-free number wants you to hold forever</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 15 Jul 2008 03:00:00 EST. These PSP Phone rumors just won't go away, will they? Another one has surfaced today via UK marketing magazine, <a href="http://www.marketingweek.co.uk/cgi-bin/item.cgi?id=61261&amp;d=254&amp;h=260&amp;f=3">Marketing Week</a>. Their sources say that a phone incorporating elements from the PSP will be out in time for Christmas 2009. Interestingly, the article also intimates that "the relationship between Sony and Sony Ericsson has become 'frosty'" and that "Sony would "never give its PlayStation branding" to the Sony Ericsson joint venture." Interesting.<br /><br />If this phone is in the works, despite a breakdown between Sony and Sony Ericsson, could Sony be working on it alone? GameIndustry.biz state that Sony have previously confirmed that they are not working with Sony Ericsson on any such device. We'll be keeping our ear to the ground in case any new information becomes available. <br /><br />[Via <a href="http://www.gamesindustry.biz/articles/playstation-phone-rumours-resurface">GI.biz</a>]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/06/25/psp-phone-rumors-resurface/">PSP Phone rumors resurface</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 25 Jun 2008 12:05:00 EST. Sony Ericsson has unveiled its new gaming phone. It's not the elusive "<a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/phone">PSP phone</a>" that many have been searching for, but it'll suffice for now. The games available on the F305 are going to be incredibly simple, with 2D era graphics. There are PlayStation buttons, but only two: a O and X button. The camera phone will feature "EDGE speeds, a Memory Stick Micro slot, a 2-inch 176 x 220 display and some music playback features."<br /><br />For us gamers, this phone does nothing to attract us. It's going to take something really big to tug us away from keeping our PSPs in our pants.<br /><br />[Thanks, xzentrico! Koreans really love <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/04/19/golf-with-style-in-korea/">free</a> <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/04/16/capcom-gives-koreans-pearl-necklaces-and-mousepads/">stuff!</a> Then again, who doesn't?<br />
<br />
This latest round of preorder incentives rewards gamers who've reserved <a style="font-style: italic;" href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/wii-sports">Wii Sports</a> with branded towels and Wii Remote cell phone straps. Unlike in the states, Wiis will not come bundled with <span style="font-style: italic;">Wii Sports</span> when the console launches in South Korea on April 26th.<br />
<br />
EA is also throwing in what looks like <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/05/14/brando-stars-in-a-wii-stand-named-desire/">Brando's Crystal Cooler</a> with every preorder for <a style="font-style: italic;" href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/fifa">FIFA 08</a>. The replacement base features a cooling fan and electric blue LEDs -- not too useful, but it's free, which automatically makes it <span style="font-style: italic;">a hundred times</span> more awesome. Bring five bucks past the post break to get a look at the stand offer.<a href="http://ruliweb.empas.com/ruliboard/read.htm?main=nin&amp;table=game_nin02&amp;page=1&amp;left=b&amp;num=15880"><br />

The <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/phone">PSP Phone</a> is quite the legend in this neck of the woods. It's no secret that Sony Ericsson wants to create a hybrid phone/gaming device. The number of murmurs heard throughout the web attest to that fact. However, it looks like the company has created failed attempt after another, as patents slowly become unearthed. Unwired View happend to stumble upon another. This design reminds us of what the PSP would look like if it had kids with the Game Boy Micro.<br /><br />Will the PSP Phone ever become reality? Chances are, yes. The real question is: when?<br /><br />[Via <a href="http://www.pocketgamer.co.uk/r/Various/news.asp?c=5986">Pocket Gamer</a>]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/03/06/yet-another-psp-phone-patent-surfaces/">Yet another PSP phone patent surfaces</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 06 Mar 2008 22:00:00 EST. The internet is abuzz <a href="http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showthread.php?t=240434">yet again</a> about the PSP <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/Phone/">Phone</a>. The rumor-that-won't-go-away makes a return in this supposed magazine scan, which displays the supposed device. The image illustrates how both gaming and phone calls would work in this effort by Sony Ericsson. We have to admit, it does look quite nice. But, does it look real? We're still a bit skeptical on this one. We certainly wouldn't mind if this were real -- but for now, we're only dreamers.<br /><br /><strong>Update:</strong> Our skepticism was right: looks like this was just a mock-up created by the magazine. Thanks to everyone that noticed this!<br /><br />[Thanks, Jerome D.! However, we can't be expected to carry around our cell phones <em>and </em>our PSPs. We only have one pair of multi-pocketed cargo pants, and, well, they really don't do much for our figure.<br /><br />We might be in luck -- a recent issue of Sony Magazine has stoked the fires of a finely aged rumor that <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2008/02/15/psp-phone-reference-spotted-in-sony-magazine/">a PSP phone is currently in the works</a>, possibly under <a href="http://www.engadgetmobile.com/2006/09/05/sony-ericsson-working-on-a-psp-phone/">Sony Ericsson</a>. One article briefly mentions that a "PSP-style phone is apparently in development," and that the device could hit retail "as early as February." You'd think something named "Sony Magazine" would know a thing or two about what's going on with Sony. But they oh-so-casually appear to reference "a new PSP-style phone" in the latest issue. It doesn't go into too many details, but suggests that "it could be in the shops as early as February." That seems unlikely, considering we haven't heard a peep from Sony regarding the matter, and it wasn't showcased at the Consumer Electronics Show in January. Phones are electronics for consumers, right?<br /><br />But this isn't the first time <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/11/22/sony-continues-to-talk-playstation-phone-possibilities/">we've heard</a> of the so-called PSP phone. The rights for a story-driven, atmosphere-heavy, first-person-shooter on a screen smaller than your palm don't really seem worth it. Yet the company <a href="http://www.igfun.com/pub/index.html">IG Fun</a> will be bringing <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/category/bioshock/"><em>Bioshock</em></a> to mobile phones, having just purchased the global rights from 2K. Nothing else about the game itself was announced, but the IG Fun CEO, <strong style="font-weight: normal;">Sean Malatesta, did say that </strong>"We're trying to do great things and <em>BioShock</em> on mobile promises to offer a whole new gaming experience and unmatched excitement amongst mobile gamers the world over." Whether or not that marketing-speak will end up coming true remains to be seen, but we'd better not see this IP run <a href="http://finalfantasy.wikia.com/wiki/Final_Fantasy_VII:_Snowboarding">into the ground</a>.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/02/13/bioshock-to-see-a-mobile-phone-release/">Bioshock to see mobile phone release</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 13 Feb 2008 12:30:00 EST. The mobile version keeps the simple "<span style="font-style: italic;">Spore</span>" handle.<br /><span style="font-style: italic;"><span style="font-style: italic;"><br /></span>Spore <strike>Creatures</strike></span> for mobile phones is launching with the rest of the <span style="font-style: italic;">Spores</span> on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/02/12/spore-finally-evolves-to-retail-sept-7-2008/">September 7</a>. I figured that this <span style="font-style: italic;">Spore</span> had no chance of infecting me. But after recently playing, I was impressed and surprised by its quality. The graphics -- and even its concept -- would be at home on a DS or Game Boy.<br /><br />Like <span style="font-style: italic;">Spore</span> on the DS, the mobile version of the game doesn't even try include everything from the PC version. <span style="font-style: italic;">Spore</span> for phones centers on the Cell Phase of the game. You use the phone's joystick to steer the creature through a slurry of suspended protein and other early life forms, eating objects and avoiding enemies.<br /><br />But like the other versions of <span style="font-style: italic;">Spore</span>, you'll regularly use a creature editor to upgrade the character. While the body part choices are also scaled down, there's enough variety to make the creature your own. Certain parts, like a dangling lure, affect how other organisms behave. That lure attracts food to you, for example. Or you could add a shell for personal defense; hit a button, and hide inside for temporary invulnerability.<br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/spore-mobile/">Spore (mobile)</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/spore-mobile/#645644"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2008/02/spore2mobile_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/spore-mobile/#645643"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2008/02/spore3moblie_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/spore-mobile/#645642"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2008/02/spore1mobile_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/spore-mobile/#638319"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2008/02/dsc_0185_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/spore-mobile/#638318"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2008/02/dsc_0183_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/02/13/joystiq-impressions-spore-creatures-mobile/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Joystiq Impressions: Spore (Mobile)</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/02/13/joystiq-impressions-spore-creatures-mobile/">Joystiq Impressions: Spore (Mobile)</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 13 Feb 2008 03:00:00 EST. Following the news of <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/01/06/slim-psps-to-get-skype-functionality-late-january/">impending Skype support</a> on Slim PSPs, some were left wondering why the plumper PlayStation Portable failed to answer the voice over IP call. Speaking to SCEE's director of corporate communications Nick Sharples, <a href="http://www.pocketgamer.co.uk/r/PSP/PSP+Slim+%26+Lite/news.asp?c=5326" style="">Pocket Gamer</a> has ascertained the simple answer. It has nothing to do with looks, and everything to do with the older PSP's waning memory and inability to remember long strings of numbers (just like grandpa).<br /><br />"We had studied the possibility of supporting Skype with PSP-1000 but had to give it up because of the smaller size of main memory on PSP-1000 series," said Sharples. If you recall, the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/07/12/joystiq-hands-on-with-the-new-psp/">PSP-2000</a> benefits from 64MB of internal memory (as opposed to 32MB in the older model) which is used for UMD caching and the reduction of game loading times. The same enhancement also enables Skype to run and thus excludes the original PSP from online chatting. We certainly hope early adopters don't get too hung up on the disappointment <em>[Goodbye! - Ed]</em>.<br /><br />[Via <a href="http://www.pspfanboy.com/2008/01/07/original-psp-doesnt-have-enough-ram-for-skype/">PSP Fanboy</a>]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/01/07/skype-skipping-original-psp-due-to-memory-limitations/">Skype skipping original PSP due to memory limitations</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Mon, 07 Jan 2008 20:00:00 EST. With a late January software patch to the new PSP Slim, the Skype service will be accessible through the handheld. The press release we received from Sony didn't specify exactly why PSPhat isn't compatible with the service -- probably because it would try to eat any microphone attachment that tried to plug into it. Fatty.<br /><br />For those not in the know, Skype is a voice chat program with nearly 250 million registered users worldwide. Any Skype user accessing the program from the PSP can chat with another user free of charge -- however, for a fee, the SkypeOut and SkypeIn features allow users to make and receive calls to and from regular phones.<br /><br />Sony hasn't done a great job of keeping this news <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2008/01/02/skype-coming-to-sonys-psp/">under their belt</a>, but regardless, we're intrigued to see exactly how well the service will work on the handheld. The rumors of <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/01/02/sony-ces-site-mentions-skype/">Skype support coming to the PSP</a> have now been confirmed by Japan's <a href="http://tinyurl.com/2zllzj">Nikkei Net</a> news organization. Unfortunately for most PSP users, however, the news service stated that Skype support will be limited to the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/psp-2000">PSP-2000</a>, but that it may come as soon as this month.<br /><br />Skype service will be free for PSP-to-PSP and PSP-to-PC calls and vice versa. Additionally, users can register for a dedicated number for around $20 every three months for what should provide support for landline and cellphone calls. The software will more than likely be part of a future firmware update, and users will use an external microphone for communication.<br /><br />At this point, we're not entirely sure why service is limited to the PSP-2000. Could there be some other hardware addition to the updated handheld that we didn't previously know about, or could this be a diabolical scheme to get us to upgrade our PSPs? Whatever the case may be, we know we certainly want to use this new technology that more or less answers the question whether Sony is interested in a <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/phone">PSPhone</a>.<br /><br />[Via <a href="http://www.gamespot.com/news/6184308.html">Gamespot</a>, Thanks for the tip, Jay!]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/01/04/skype-support-will-be-limited-to-psp-2000/">Skype support will be limited to PSP-2000</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Fri, 04 Jan 2008 19:15:00 EST. One of the more complex applications is <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/09/17/voip-working-on-the-ds/">SvSIP</a></em>, which allows you to make and receive calls with your DS.<br /><br />Fortunately, though, the folks over at <a href="http://portablevideogamer.com">Portable Video Gamer</a> have made an easy-to-follow guide for installing and using <em>SvSIP</em> on your handheld. If you were too apprehensive to try it before, this guide will hold your hand through the process, so worry not. <br /> <br /> While having phone capabilities on your DS is probably not a necessity (we're sure at least 95% of you have your own cell phones), it's still a fun prospect. Yet, ultimately, do you think it's worth the hassle?<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/01/03/how-to-turn-your-ds-into-a-phone/">How to turn your DS into a phone</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 03 Jan 2008 16:00:00 EST. People are seriously clamoring for a PSP phone. We've seen a number of fake designs in our time, however this is easily the sexiest so far. The sliding design of this concept drawing shows how a widescreen display can still be used in a compact form figure. Add an iPhone-esque sheen to it, and you have yourself one truly desirable gadget.<br /><br />Too bad this <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/11/22/sony-continues-to-talk-playstation-phone-possibilities/">isn't real</a> -- but who knows? It's probably safe to say Sony has had an on-again, off-again relationship with the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/phone">PlayStation Phone</a>. Top executives have gone on record to confirm <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/09/14/playstation-phone-development-continues/">work is being done</a> on the hybrid gaming handheld and cell phone and have also even claimed they <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/06/11/scee-ceo-knows-nothing-about-a-psp-phone/">knew nothing about it</a>. Well, mark down another Sony exec who's incredibly excited about its possibilities. <br /><br />"The PlayStation is a proven success and so is Sony Ericsson," said Jim Ryan, Sony Computer Entertainment's co-chief operating officer, in an interview with the <a href="http://economictimes.indiatimes.com/articleshow/2554464.cms">Economic Times</a>. "Convergence with the two arms working together is definitely plausible. It is hugely intellectually seductive to have a console oriented phone."<br /><br />[Insert random N-Gage joke here.] "While the Cybershot and Walkman are better selling brands from the Sony fold, Playstation almost enjoys cult status ... [and the two] would make a strong success story for Sony," he added. At this point we'd appreciate less talk and more action out of the Sony camp. If you're going to do it, then do it.<br /><br />[<strong>Update:</strong> Sony has <a href="http://www.next-gen.biz/index.php?option=com_content&amp;task=view&amp;id=8045&amp;Itemid=2">denied</a> this rumor. "Jim Ryan was misquoted in his interview and we do not have any plans at the moment for a PlayStation phone."]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/11/22/sony-continues-to-talk-playstation-phone-possibilities/">Sony continues to talk PS Phone possibilities [Update]</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 22 Nov 2007 13:30:00 EST. So you can imagine our thought process when Google announced its <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2007/11/05/live-coverage-of-googles-android-gphone-mobile-os-announcement/">Android mobile operating system</a> yesterday. Problem is, we don't know enough about cell phone game development to say for sure what, if anything, Android will do for cell phone gaming.<br /><br />Luckily, Jon over at the <a href="http://www.zenandgames.com/why-the-google-phone-could-be-the-best-thing-to-happen-to-cell-phone-gaming-ever/">Zen and Games</a> has "done [his] share of time in the cell phone game development trenches," as he puts it, and is excited by the possibilities of Google's standardized OS. Among them:<br />
<ul>
    <li>Google's OS will hopefully provide a stable, standard platform that isn't as buggy as the current Java Virtual Machine (like what <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/08/29/nokia-unveils-n-gage-gaming-platform/">Nokia</a>'s trying to do, but better because it's Google)</li>
    <li>Android might force cell phone makers to create phones with hardware specs. that match their stylish case designs (instead of today's crop of flashy-looking phones that can barely handle text messaging)</li>
    <li>The open software development kit means anyone can develop games for Android (possibly leading to a resurgence in indie mobile gaming)</li>
</ul>
While we're generally <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/06/27/behold-the-wonder-god-of-war-mobile-isnt-bad/">skeptical</a> about mobile gaming, the Google name is enough to give us hope for something better than <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2005/09/26/the-o-c-to-become-a-mobile-video-game/"><em>The O.C. Mobile</em></a><em>.</em><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/11/06/cell-developer-talks-google-android-gaming-possibilities/">Mobile developer talks Google Android gaming possibilities</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 06 Nov 2007 12:00:00 EST. Oh, and according to some, a knowledge of homebrew on the DS is also needed, as some have complained the software can be a bit of a pain. <br /><br />Oh, and you'll also need a SIP account.<br /><br />[Via <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2007/09/13/nintendo-ds-gets-voip/">Engadget</a>]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/09/17/voip-working-on-the-ds/">VoIP working on the DS</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Mon, 17 Sep 2007 13:50:00 EST. Well, the President of Sony Ericsson Miles Flint couldn't wait that long.<br /></div>
<br />Flint told the Financial Times the "technology behind such a device was still some way from being perfected." He also said, "We need to make sure that it is a credible phone and be sure we are justified in putting that identity on it."<br /><br />That's actually a pretty good point. It's obvious the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/phone/">PS Phone</a> would be Sony's third tier gaming platform, so how many people would really be interested in toting around yet another handheld gaming device? Wouldn't a VOIP service like the one <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/05/23/psp-gains-phone-functionality-in-uk/">in the works for Europe</a> not only make more sense but also be cheaper on the wallet?<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/09/14/playstation-phone-development-continues/">PlayStation Phone development continues</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Fri, 14 Sep 2007 04:21:00 EST. In an interview with <a href="http://www.pocketgamer.co.uk/r/Mobile/PlayStation+Phone/news.asp?c=3996">Pocket Gamer</a>, Peter Ahnegard, "gaming guru" at Sony Ericsson, had a few choice words about the long-rumored <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/phone">PlayStation Phone</a>. "Up until today we haven't felt we could launch a PlayStation phone because it wouldn't be recognised as a true continuation of that brand of products."<br /><br />Of course, his wording caught the attention of the interviewer, who wanted to know more about what "until today" meant. The answer confirms a PS phone, but does so in a vague and a generally un-helpful way: "It's obviously something that we're looking at but right now I can't really comment. Before Christmas, certainly ... but exactly which Christmas I can't confirm!"<br /><br />Well, it looks like we'll get our PS Phone Christmas <strike>2007</strike> <strike>2008</strike> 2009?<br /><br />[Via <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/08/28/sony-ericsson-obviously-considering-playstation-branded-phone/">Joystiq</a>]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/08/28/playstation-phone-obviously-being-looked-into/">PlayStation Phone "obviously" being looked into</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 28 Aug 2007 17:00:00 EST. Sony Ericsson seemingly agrees in an interview with <a href="http://www.pocketgamer.co.uk/r/Mobile/PlayStation+Phone/news.asp?c=3996">Pocket Gamer</a>, with the phone company's Peter Ahnegard (<em>touch&eacute;!</em>) discussing <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2006/09/06/rumor-playstation-based-cell-phone/">the possibility</a> of releasing a PlayStation-branded phone. Ahnegard explains that sticking the PlayStation name on a phone is easier said than done, as consumers have certain expectations from such a prominent label. <br /><br />"We're not launching a brand of handset simply because we can, but because we can lead up to the expectations of the consumer," he said. "Up until today we haven't felt we could launch a PlayStation phone because it wouldn't be recognised as a true continuation of that brand of products." When further prodded, Ahnegard admits that a PlayStation phone is "obviously something that we're looking at" and expects it to materialize in some form before Christmas... "but exactly which Christmas I can't confirm!" Well, that narrows it down.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/08/28/sony-ericsson-obviously-considering-playstation-branded-phone/">Sony Ericsson 'obviously' considering PlayStation-branded phone</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 28 Aug 2007 12:15:00 EST. The even freer commercial they made for it! To promote their new offer of a free DS with subscription to a whole bunch of stuff, <a href="http://www.comcast.com">Comcast</a> hired <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/John_Kricfalusi">John Kricfalusi</a> to make a promotional animation. It's quite a bit better than pretty much any cable company commercial we've ever seen, and definitely a lot better than any Flash ad we've seen on a website. Animation this brilliantly weird should not be buried in Comcast's website.<br /><br />Kricfalusi is best known as the creator and occasional voice of <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ren_%26_Stimpy"><em>Ren &amp; Stimpy</em></a><em> </em>and the founder of <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sp%C3%BCmc%C3%B8">Sp&uuml;mc&oslash; International</a>. You can see some <a href="http://johnkstuff.blogspot.com/2007/07/comcast-action.html">sketches</a> for the ad on his <a href="http://johnkstuff.blogspot.com">blog</a>, as well as lots and lots of animation nerdery.<br /><br />Oh, and also, if you need phone, internet, and cable TV, you should think about signing up with Comcast right now and getting a free DS Lite out of it.<br /> <br />[Via <a href="http://www.cheapassgamer.com">CAG</a>]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/07/10/whats-better-than-a-free-ds-from-comcast/">What's better than a free DS from Comcast?</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 10 Jul 2007 17:20:00 EST. Imagine an alternate universe where the <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Atari_Lynx">Atari Lynx</a>, with its <em>awesome </em>color screen and arcade <em><a href="http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&amp;safe=off&amp;client=firefox-a&amp;rls=org.mozilla%3Aen-US%3Aofficial&amp;hs=myv&amp;q=ninja+gaiden+lynx&amp;btnG=Search">Ninja Gaiden</a> </em>port <em>obliterated</em> the original Game Boy in sales. Then Nintendo tried to come back with a color system, only to be humiliated by the <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Neo_Geo_Pocket_Color">Neo Geo Pocket Color</a>. That is the the situation for which this rumor makes sense.<br /><br />Noheat.com speculates that Nintendo will release "a limited amount of content" for Apple's <a href="http://www.tuaw.com/category/iphone/">iPhone</a>, in the form of downloadable $29 games. There is so much wrong with this idea. First, and most obvious, Nintendo kind of has their own handheld system with a touch screen. Second, Nintendo does not release games for non-Nintendo consoles. They <a href="http://www.pinkgodzillagames.com/retro_reviews/the_legend_of_cdi_zelda.php">licensed Mario and Zelda out</a> to Philips for CD-I games, but they didn't make those games (and it <a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9mHw5g55oC4"></a><a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=imlyVV0yYKo&amp;NR=1">didn't really</a> <a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9mHw5g55oC4">work out</a>.) The last time Nintendo made a game for someone else's system was pre-NES, with stuff like <em>Donkey Kong</em> and <em>Popeye.</em> And back then, they didn't have a console out to compete with Coleco, Mattel, and Atari.<br /><br />Here's the weirdest part of all: Noheat claims that "The logic is that because the licensed games will be exclusive and cater to an older audience they should not intrude into Nintendo's existing markets." <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/BrainAge/">Brain Age</a> </em>says hello! Of course, having said all that, now we're quite certain Nintendo will make the announcement later today, just to make us look foolish!<br /><br />[Via <a href="http://www.dotmatrixwithstereosound.com/2007/06/19/i-hate-rumors-but/">Dot Matrix With Stereo Sound</a>, <a href="http://www.tuaw.com/2007/06/19/rumor-mill-nintendo-licensing-iphone-games/">TUAW</a>]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/06/20/puzzling-rumor-has-nintendo-supporting-the-iphone/">Puzzling rumor has Nintendo supporting the iPhone</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 20 Jun 2007 10:50:00 EST. A phone that has the ability to play <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/NES/">NES</a> roms isn't anything new, but a phone that was designed specifically for that purpose (see the "A" and "B" buttons) is plenty to trigger our desire synapses. Oh, and dig this: It's got TV out, so you can play on a big screen, much to the delight of people at awful parties everywhere.<br /><br />But now, as you've probably guessed, it's time for the sad news. You can't buy the phone (made by Hong Kong's <a href="http://www.gioneehk.com/">Gionee</a>) here. But, maybe that's for the best. Can you imagine how irritating it would be to watch YouTube videos of <em>Super Mario Bros. </em>speed runs interrupted every 20 seconds with "Gram Mam Calling"?<br /><br />[Via <a href="http://www.wirelessinfo.com/content/Phone-targeted-specifically-for-original-Nintendo.htm">Cell Blog</a>]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/06/13/meet-the-nes-cell-phone/">Meet the NES cell phone</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 13 Jun 2007 08:30:00 EST. A little something different: it's not a DS, but it is at least <em>similar</em> in that it's a handheld device that plays Nintendo games. If there's only one thing we want in life, it's the ability to have hundreds of NES games on hand at any moment. Let's forget the legal issues right now and just marvel at the technical wonder of a <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/search/?q=cell+phone">cell phone</a> that not only comes preloaded with a NES emulator, but is designed with a reasonable button layout to play them.<br /><br />Welcome to the future. If you had told us twenty years ago that there was a portable device that could store and play NES games, we would have been impressed. If you had told us that it would also have a TV-out, we would say 'neat.' But there is no way we would have conceived of the idea that such functions would be extras on a telephone that also has a digital camera. <br /><br />Okay, we'll stop forgetting now and get to the major problem: downloading NES ROMs is illegal and <a href="http://www.nintendo.com/corp/faqs/legal.html">violates Nintendo's copyright</a>. Even backing up games you own is questionable. Oh, well, this phone probably won't make it to the US anyway, so we won't be forced into any moral dilemmas.<br /><br />[Via <a href="http://www.wirelessinfo.com/content/Phone-targeted-specifically-for-original-Nintendo.htm">Wireless Info</a>]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/06/12/first-post-on-nes-emulating-phone-fanboy/">First post on NES-Emulating Phone Fanboy</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 12 Jun 2007 15:00:00 EST. The <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/06/01/sony-ericsson-files-psp-esque-gaming-phone-patent/">PSP phone</a> isn't happening ... or David Reeves, CEO of Sony Computer Entertainment Europe, has been left in the dark. After some very detailed patent filings were unveiled, the Sony CEO has responded, flatly denying the possibility of such a product. "I know the head of Sony Ericsson very well," he told <a href="http://www.mcvuk.com/news/27479/Reeves-No-PSP-phone-coming">MCV</a>. "He has a Walkman phone and a Cybershot phone available, but I know nothing about a PSP phone."<br /><br />He adds, "I haven't heard anything about it at all - and I would know. They wouldn't develop it without our knowledge."<br /><br />Of course, in the games industry, it's <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2006/01/16/nintendo-says-no-ds-redesign-for-you/">not uncommon</a> for an executive to be kept out of the loop.<br /><br />[Via <a href="http://www.next-gen.biz/index.php?option=com_content&amp;task=view&amp;id=5937&amp;Itemid=2">Next Gen</a>]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/06/11/scee-ceo-knows-nothing-about-a-psp-phone/">SCEE CEO knows nothing about a PSP phone</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Mon, 11 Jun 2007 13:30:00 EST. You're already two hundred minutes over your monthly limit and you just <em>have</em> to tell your friend the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/category/news">latest news</a>? Well, practical solutions include borrowing another friend's cell phone and/or displaying a modicum of patience, but we never were much for <em>practical </em>around here.<br /><br />For those with <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/category/homebrew">homebrew</a> capabilities, a <a href="http://nintendo-ds.dcemu.co.uk/dsip-voip-for-nintendo-ds-test-release-65395.html">new VoIP app</a> has been written by JSR. It's still in the testing phase, but since we're too stupid to actually <em>code</em> anything, this is how we get those "we're contributing!" fuzzy feelings. Do what you can, we say, and if you also want to shout at your buddy through a DS, all the better. Check it out.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/06/06/ds-voip-app-available-for-testing/">DS VoIP app available for testing</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 06 Jun 2007 11:43:00 EST. Sony Ericsson has recently filed a patent for a gaming phone that looks more than a little inspired by the PSP. The ability to play games is a central focus of the device, as indicated by the need to suspend games for phone calls (pictured, above). Sony has <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2006/09/05/calling-all-psps/">hinted</a> time and time again at the possibility of a <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/phone">PlayStation phone</a> ... it looks like this is taking the idea one step closer to reality.<br /><br />[Via <a href="http://www.pocketgamer.co.uk/r/PSP/news.asp?c=3217">Pocket Gamer</a>]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/06/01/sony-ericsson-files-psp-esque-gaming-phone-patent/">Sony Ericsson files PSP-esque gaming phone patent</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Fri, 01 Jun 2007 14:00:00 EST.
