In a launch event open to the public, visitors got to see (and buy) the art on display, take pictures in front of a <em>Street Fighter</em> background, and even smash up a car pinata in a tribute to the games' Bonus Round mechanic.<br /> <br /> Gabe Swarr was one of the artists in attendance last night - <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/capcoms-25-years-of-street-fighter-at-iam8bit/#/16">his piece in the show</a>, a comic from his <a href="http://www.lifeintheanalogage.com/">Life in the Analog Age</a> series, was a little more personal than all of the various representations of Chun Li, Ryu, and Blanka. In it, he portrays the change that <em>Street Fighter </em>brought to the arcades when it debuted, from sillier games featuring monkeys and spaceships to fire punches and spinning kicks. "Right when <em>Street Fighter</em> started there were two different crowds at that point," says Swarr, "and I wanted to remember that shift in the arcades."<br /> <br /> Swarr says that <em>Street Fighter</em> as a brand has lasted so long because its characters were so identifiable. Not only are these archetypal characters easy to connect to, but "it's also an international thing," he says. "It's one of the first games where they say this guy's from Brazil, this guy's from Japan and this guy's from the US. They did a really great job of incorporating that into the game."<br /> <br /> "You could tell that that was like the basis for all the fighting games afterwards," Swarr says. "This was the template that everyone followed." Capcom's 25 Years of Street Fighter show is running at iam8bit through August 19. You can see what's on display there in the gallery below.<div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/capcoms-25-years-of-street-fighter-at-iam8bit/">Capcom's 25 Years of Street Fighter at iam8bit</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/capcoms-25-years-of-street-fighter-at-iam8bit/#5192201"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2012/08/sfeventia8b59_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/capcoms-25-years-of-street-fighter-at-iam8bit/#5192202"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2012/08/sfeventia8b60_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/capcoms-25-years-of-street-fighter-at-iam8bit/#5192203"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2012/08/sfeventia8b61_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/capcoms-25-years-of-street-fighter-at-iam8bit/#5192204"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2012/08/sfeventia8b56_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/capcoms-25-years-of-street-fighter-at-iam8bit/#5192205"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2012/08/sfeventia8b57_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div></div><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/08/04/capcom-and-iam8bit-remember-25-years-of-street-fighter-with-art/">Capcom and iam8bit remember 25 Years of Street Fighter with art gallery</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Sat, 04 Aug 2012 16:30:00 EST. Early adopters can update their systems to firmware version 1.61, which adds a Maps application to the home screen, allows for video recording in the Photos application, and allows for any ratings you make in the PlayStation Store to appear on Facebook. Additionally, the Discoveries screen now lists up to 100 players, as well as the number of times they've been seen.<br /><br />The Content Manager Assistant app has been updated, and is available now both as a Windows and Mac download. Even if you've got version 1.60 already, you should make the jump to 1.61, as Sony says there are some systemwide performance improvements too. The latest firmware can be downloaded on the console over Wi-Fi, or can be updated from a PC or Mac with the Content Manager Assistant.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/02/20/ps-vita-1-61-adds-maps-app-video-recording-and-other-updates/">PS Vita 1.61 adds Maps app, video recording, and other updates</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Mon, 20 Feb 2012 22:30:00 EST. <a href="http://joystiq.com/tag/apb"><span style="font-style: italic;">APB</span></a> was probably <a href="http://www.apb.com/age-verification-gateway/?bounce=http://www.apb.com/">one of the most impressive games</a> we didn't actually see played at E3 -- while <a href="http://joystiq.com/tag/realtime-world">Realtime Worlds</a> didn't have any actual gameplay to show off, they did have a nice demo session (in a booth guarded by these two tattooed ladies -- don't worry, EJ's wife, we asked him to pose for this one) where they talked about how their persistent MMO shooter will combine emergent cops-and-robbers gameplay with an extremely impressive level of customization.<br /><br />After the demo session, lead designer EJ Moreland sat down with us, and cleared up most of the wanted bounties we still had on the game: what's advancement like? How is the game using <a href="http://www.last.fm/">Last.fm</a>? And just how will they balance out the ad-hoc gameplay of criminals committing crimes and enforcers catching them with the usual MMO process of character advancement? If you've ever wondered how <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/GameStop/">GameStop</a> is capable of breathing new life into your battered and bruised console trade-ins, you might want to check out <a href="http://techblog.dallasnews.com/archives/2009/03/photos-inside-gamestops-refurb.html">a recent pictorial</a> submitted by Dallas News staff photographer Louis DeLuca. If your mental image of the GameStop console repair ward involved kind, bespectacled seniors (and possibly jolly, miniscule elven craftsmen), you may find the snapshots a tad jarring. There seems to be very little <em>Keebler-esque </em>magic going on within that warehouse -- though it certainly looks like they've figured out the science behind the mass resurrection of corpsified consoles.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/04/01/dallas-news-goes-inside-the-belly-of-the-gamestop-repair-beast/">Dallas News goes inside the belly of the GameStop repair beast</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 01 Apr 2009 19:50:00 EST. One of the more fun, and less discussed, new gameplay additions in <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/11/17/wii-fanboy-review-animal-crossing-city-folk/"><em>Animal Crossing: City Folk</em></a> is the ability to take snapshots and save them to an SD card for sharing. Nintendo and their <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/07/23/nintendo-launches-digicam-print-channel/">Digicam Print Channel</a> partner, Fujifilm, are taking advantage of the new functionality with a new contest for Japan designed to encourage online photo sharing.<br /><br />Until January 28, photos uploaded to the special <em>Animal Crossing</em> section of Fuji's photo sharing site, Fotonoma, will be eligible for entry in a contest. Winners in each of two themes (<a href="http://enjoy.fotonoma.jp/park/7fYnbopiXhCgpjKDL75VOHNpf67K1z/latest_album/46849">favorite photos</a> and shots <a href="http://enjoy.fotonoma.jp/park/7fYnbopiXhCgpjKDL75VOHNpf67K1z/latest_album/46853">showing off fashion</a>) will receive prizes, including a new Fuji digital camera, a Wiimote and Nunchuk, or <em>Animal Crossing</em> postcards. It sounds like a fun and novel way to interact with other <em>Animal Crossing </em>fans while possibly winning stuff!<br /><br /><br />[Via <a href="http://www.inside-games.jp/news/329/32954.html">Inside-Games</a>]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/01/05/animal-crossing-city-photo-contest/">Animal Crossing: City Photo Contest</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Mon, 05 Jan 2009 15:00:00 EST. <div align="left">Late last night (and well into this morning), Activision, Blizzard, and GameStop turned a slice of San Francisco's Powell Street into a "Lunar Festival" for the launch of <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/wrath-of-the-lich-king"><em>World of WarCraft: Wrath of the Lich King</em></a>. There were cosplayers; there were dancers; there were face painters; there were ... lots of people eager to get their mitts on the expansion.<br /><br />Several hundred fans turned out, including yours truly. We went, we saw, we ... Liched some King? Okay, so we didn't do that - and no, it doesn't even make any sense - but we did take a whole bunch of photos ensuring that, if you weren't there, it would be sort of like you were. Only without the crazy lady from upstairs threatening to have <em>everyone </em>charged with misdemeanors if the event didn't get quieter. Seriously.<br /><br />Have a look at our photo gallery and tell us that <em>WoW </em>isn't absolutely, <em>preposterously</em> huge.<br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/wow-wrath-of-the-lich-king-launch-san-francisco/">Wrath of the Lich King Launch: San Francisco</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/wow-wrath-of-the-lich-king-launch-san-francisco/#1155512"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2008/11/wotlksf12_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/wow-wrath-of-the-lich-king-launch-san-francisco/#1155511"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2008/11/wotlksf8_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/wow-wrath-of-the-lich-king-launch-san-francisco/#1155509"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2008/11/wotlksf36_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/wow-wrath-of-the-lich-king-launch-san-francisco/#1155508"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2008/11/wotlksf10_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/wow-wrath-of-the-lich-king-launch-san-francisco/#1155507"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2008/11/wotlksf17_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div></div>

Through a collaboration with Fujifilm, Japanese Wii users can now order prints of digital camera photos through the Wii for 30 yen (28 cents) each. Users can also purchase special Wii Photo Books for 1,575 yen ($14,71), or deluxe Mario-themed Wii Photo Books for 2,480 yen ($23.16).<br /><br />In addition, the service offers <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Meishi">meishi</a> (like Japanese business cards, but even more prevalent) in multiple colors, emblazoned with the Mii of the user's choice, at a rate of 500 yen per 30 cards.<br /><br />We think this is a really cool and unique feature that we wouldn't mind trying out oursel -- oh, wait, we're supposed to be "hardcore gamers." We almost forgot to hate it and blame this new service for the death of gaming! Oh, man, how embarrassing.<br /><br /><font color="red">Update:</font> Now with more video!<br /><br />[Via <a href="http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showthread.php?t=328314">NeoGAF</a>]<br /><br />

Wondering what E3 2008 actually looks like now that it's made a triumphant (if smaller) return to the L.A. Convention Center. Look no further than the handy gallery below, full of shots directly from the floor. This year's show may not capture the rock-concert-meets-theme-park feel of past shows, but it's still pretty cool walking into a huge room and seeing dozens new and unreleased games, free to try, as far as the eye can see. We'll be updating the gallery with interesting shots throughout the show, so be sure to check back frequently.<br /><br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/e3-2008-show-floor/">E3 2008 Show floor</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/e3-2008-show-floor/#922548"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2008/07/dsc_2973_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/e3-2008-show-floor/#922597"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2008/07/dsc_3001_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/e3-2008-show-floor/#922599"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2008/07/dsc_3018_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/e3-2008-show-floor/#922604"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2008/07/dsc_3005_thumbnail.jpg" alt="E3 will suck your brain out!" title="E3 will suck your brain out!" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/e3-2008-show-floor/#922506"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2008/07/dsc_2921_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/07/15/shots-from-the-e3-2008-showfloor/">Shots from the E3 2008 showfloor</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 15 Jul 2008 15:31:00 EST. <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/playstation-day-2008">PlayStation Day</a> may have occurred a few days ago now, but our coverage has only just ended. From what we heard David Reeves say during the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/05/06/liveblog-from-playstation-day-2008/">keynote speech</a>, PlayStation Day will be an annual event so we look forward to doing it all again next year. Until then, you can enjoy a gallery of photographs taken from the show floor. Sadly we weren't allowed to take photos of <em>Resistance 2</em> and we literally couldn't get close enough to photograph <em>Killzone 2</em>. There's still plenty to see, however, so go ahead and take a peek.<br /><br />Be sure to check the list of PlayStation Day posts after the break in case you've missed something. Let us know what you thought of the event, and our coverage, in the comments below.<br /><em><br /></em><p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/05/09/photos-from-the-playstation-day-2008-show-floor/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Photos from the PlayStation Day 2008 show floor</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/05/09/photos-from-the-playstation-day-2008-show-floor/">Photos from the PlayStation Day 2008 show floor</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Fri, 09 May 2008 12:00:00 EST. <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/category/the-ds-life/">The DS Life</a> is a new weekly feature in which we scour the known world for narrative images of Nintendo's handheld and handheld gamers. If you have a photo and a story to match it with, send both to <strong>thedslife at gmail dot com</strong>.<br /><br />This week's gam-filled shot comes from "Asianleggy," a professional photographer whose collections you might already be familiar with, depending on how <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/05/05/naughtiness-on-the-nintendo-ds/">deviant</a> your tastes are. Step past the post break for the full image and some notes on his previous work.<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/07/04/the-ds-life-leg-show/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>The DS Life: Leg Show</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/07/04/the-ds-life-leg-show/">The DS Life: Leg Show</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 04 Jul 2007 13:45:00 EST. However, nothing, and we mean nothing, can compare to the latest one in <em>EGM's</em> March issue: "If you can find a PS3 anywhere in North America that's been on shelves for more than five minutes, I'll give you 1200 bucks for it." And every reader collectively gasps.<br /><br />The guys at Penny Arcade <a href="http://www.penny-arcade.com/comic/2007/02/10">wrapped</a> themselves in the gooey goodness of that quote already and we'd certainly like to <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/01/04/sony-shortages-show-signs-of-slowing/">point out</a> our photos from January (there's about $24,000 in that photo alone). The reason we're showing January images is becase an editor's note on the <em>EGM</em> piece says the interview took place in early Jan. 2007. Seriously though, even the <em>EGM</em> guys in the same interview say, "But we called 18 random retailers, including Best Buy and EB Games, and half of them had PS3s in stock ... some had as many as 20 in the store." Come on kids, everyone in the pool, Uncle Jack is giving out free money.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/02/10/sonys-jack-tretton-and-the-1200-quote/">Sony's Jack Tretton and the $1200 quote</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Sat, 10 Feb 2007 14:30:00 EST. However, it takes real balls to do all of that while wearing a Victoria's Secret Angel costume and playing <em>Guitar Hero</em>. Thus, we have a winner for our <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2006/11/24/free-guitar-hero-ii-game-and-guitar-still-up-for-grabs/">contest</a>. Our two runners-up are <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/media/2006/12/casethan.jpg">Casethan</a> and his dual-guitars of death/J.C. It's so hard to come up with new witticisms when we're gazing upon the smooth, silky cables, so dark and lustrous. We can imagine how they'll slide through our fingers as we lovingly unwind them from their cruel and twisty knot of torture. The flat expanse of the sensor bar, just waiting, waiting for its place of honor atop our televisions. Ah, the pristine white shimmer of the nunchuk, so fresh and unspoiled by our grubby jam-hands. Oh, Wii. Why must we wait so long to be with you?<br /><br />[Thanks to creamsugar for the tip.
