Pikmin 2</em>. A scan from the latest issue of Nintendo Power (via <a href="http://www.gonintendo.com/?mode=viewstory&amp;id=176074">GoNintendo</a>) says it's coming in June.<br /><br />The Wii port has been available in Europe and Japan for years now. Nothing specific is mentioned in regards to features of the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/new-play-control/">New Play Control!</a> version, but it'll pretty much be the exact same thing as the 2009 re-release for Japan and Europe.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/04/24/new-play-control-pikmin-2-lands-in-north-america-this-june/">New Play Control! Shigeru Miyamoto has been discussing a new <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/06/07/miyamoto-pikmin-in-the-works-for-wii-u/"><em>Pikmin</em> game for some time</a>, and we may finally get a first glimpse of it during this year's annual <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/e3-2012">Electronic Entertainment Expo</a> in Los Angeles.<br /><br />In an interview with Spanish newspaper <a href="http://www.elmundo.es/elmundo/2012/04/16/navegante/1334559905.html">El Mundo</a>, Miyamoto confirmed that Nintendo is finally ready to unveil the next entry in the series. A Nintendo representative offered additional comments to <a href="http://www.gameinformer.com/b/news/archive/2012/04/16/you-will-see-pikmin-3-at-e3.aspx">Game Informer</a>, stating that Miyamoto thinks "anyone who has played <em>Pikmin</em> games in the past will enjoy playing."<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/04/16/miyamoto-promises-pikmin-reveal-at-e3-2012/">Miyamoto promises Pikmin reveal at E3 2012</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Mon, 16 Apr 2012 23:00:00 EST. <p>
	Nintendo's almost getting in the habit of announcing <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/pikmin"><em>Pikmin</em></a> games at its E3 developer roundtable events. Speaking to attendees this evening, Shigeru Miyamoto explained that while development of a new <em>Pikmin</em> <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/07/16/miyamoto-were-making-pikmin/">began on Wii</a>, it has since been moved to the company's new console, the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/@wii-u">Wii U</a>.<br />
	<br />
	Miyamoto described it as "the perfect system for Pikmin," though tried to distance himself from turning this into a corporate announcement. His non-corporate side, Miyamoto said, "really just wants to tell you we're working on Pikmin."<br />
	<br />
	Since the game has been in the works for some time, Captain Olimar and his plant-like companions won't dally "too long" before they touch down in your perilous garden.</p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/06/07/miyamoto-pikmin-in-the-works-for-wii-u/">Miyamoto: Pikmin in the works for Wii U</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 07 Jun 2011 23:00:00 EST. Filip Felberg is kind of like Mr. Miyagi, but instead of masterfully pruning bonsai (and training kids to take down Cobra Kai), he makes awesome stuff out of Lego. His <a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/39134527@N04/sets/72157619207901821/">flickr</a> page shows us his latest fixation: Nintendo's <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/pikmin"><em>Pikmin</em></a>. He's remade Olimar (and his ship), along with many of the enemies encountered in the game, to great effect. His creations strike an amazing resemblance to their in-game counterparts, and we totally wouldn't mind having a few of these on our desk. How about you?<br /><br />[Via <a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/39134527@N04/sets/72157619207901821/">GameSetWatch</a>]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/06/25/pikmin-just-as-awesome-in-lego-form/">Pikmin just as awesome in Lego form</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 25 Jun 2009 15:15:00 EST. Nintendo has dropped a bob-omb of release dates for 2009 (via <a href="http://www.videogamer.com/news/30-01-2009-10517.html">Videogamer</a>). While mostly vague launch windows -- some of which will still likely be missed -- <em>New Play Control! Pikmin</em> and <span style="font-style: italic;">Mario Tennis</span> will hit Europe February 6 and March 3, respectively, with the US getting both sometime in March. Other notable titles include <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/pokemon-platinum">Pokemon Platinum</a> </em>(March 22 for US, sometime 2009 for Europe) and <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/punch-out"><em>Punch-Out!!</em></a> (first half of 2009 for both regions).<br /><br />Additionally, the Big N said Europeans will be able to welcome the DSi into their homes sometime this spring or summer -- not exactly the most narrow window there, and nothing we haven't already heard since president Satoru Iwata said the portable would be launching worldwide <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/10/31/iwata-dsi-launching-worldwide-by-summer-2009/">by summer 2009</a>. Check out the the full list for Europe and US after the break.<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/01/30/punch-out-coming-first-half-2009-and-more-us-europe-nintend/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Punch-Out!! coming first half 2009, and more US / Europe Nintendo release dates</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/01/30/punch-out-coming-first-half-2009-and-more-us-europe-nintend/">Punch-Out!! coming first half 2009, and more US / Europe Nintendo release dates</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Fri, 30 Jan 2009 10:36:00 EST. Naturally, we <em>really like</em> the idea of great GameCube games with added 16:9 widescreen support and waggle-based controls, and it could be a licence to print money for Nintendo, if <em>Mario Power Tennis</em>' <a href="http://www.m-create.com/ranking/">chart-topping</a> debut in Japan is anything to go by.<br /><br />Will us westerners gobble up these repackaged games as keenly as Japanese gamers? It's likely to depend heavily on pricing -- the games look set to cost <a href="http://www.amazon.com/Pikmin-Nintendo-Wii/dp/B001CTL5GQ">$30</a> in the U.S., and <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/01/21/uk-new-play-control-prices-probably-wont-be-quite-so-overinflat/">&pound;30</a> in the UK. At least retailers will have a lower <em>starting point</em> for their prices: "However, our trade price for these games will be below our usual trade price for Wii games and our present estimate of the likely retail price is in the region of GBP 29.99." <br /><br />This doesn't necessarily mean that retailers really <span style="font-style: italic;">will</span> sell the games at the somewhat reduced price point (which still comes out to $41), but it means that if they don't, they're total jerks. <a href="http://www.amazon.co.uk/Nintendo-RVLPR9IE-Pikmin-Wii/dp/B001CTL5GQ/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&amp;s=videogames&amp;qid=1232564177&amp;sr=8-2">Amazon</a>, at least, currently has <span style="font-style: italic;">Pikmin</span> for <span class="priceLarge">&pound;24.99!</span><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/01/21/uk-new-play-control-prices-probably-wont-be-quite-so-overinflat/">UK New Play Control prices probably won't be quite so overinflated</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 21 Jan 2009 14:39:00 EST. Nintendo is looking to cash in with their line of GameCube-enhanced-for-Wii games, <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/play-on-wii">Play on Wii</a>. Of course, in the UK and North America it's called <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/12/18/new-play-control-new-ish-boxart/">New Play Control!</a>, as we've already reported. So how much will these games fetch?<br /><br />Well, <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/pikmin">Pikmin</a> </em>is set for a February 6th release, with <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/mario-power-tennis"><em>Mario Power Tennis</em></a> releasing on March 6th, and each title has a suggested price of &pound;39.99, according to retailers. Nintendo has stepped in to say that their recommended price is &pound;29.99, but it would seem that retailers aren't following that guideline. Should these games go for full price, even if they've got reworked controls taking advantage of the Wii's unique capabilities?<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/01/20/new-play-control-high-price-tag/">New Play Control! Even eight years after its original release, <em>Pikmin</em> remains one of the fresher and more unusual Nintendo franchise games, and the Wii version only improves on it!<br /><br />In this video, Wii Folder's Josh Thomas (standing in front of the screen like a weatherman) introduces the game in a manner appropriate for people who have <em>no idea</em> what <em>Pikmin </em>is. The <a href="http://www.nintendo.co.jp/wii/asobu/index.html">packages</a> for the Japanese <em>Play on Wii</em> series feature the original boxarts for the GameCube games framed in a new white border, with a blue bar at the bottom explaining that the games have new Wii Remote-based controls. According to teensy preview images found on GameStop.com, the North American <em>New Play Control!</em> versions of <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/12/10/pikmin-just-got-a-little-more-perfect/">Pikmin</a> </em>and <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/11/18/mario-tennis-how-to-play-on-wii/">Mario Power Tennis</a>, </em>officially announced just <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/12/17/nintendo-unleashes-full-q1-schedule/">yesterday</a>, will employ the same strategy. As in, <em>exactly </em>the same. <br /><br />The only difference (aside from the language stuff and the fact that the North American boxart images are used) is that the <em>Play on Wii </em>boxes feature a <em>curved</em> top border in the blue area. If we're lucky, the covers will be <a href="http://blog.wired.com/games/2008/12/hands-on-donkey.html">reversible</a> like the Japanese ones. We probably won't be that lucky!<br /><br />We have yet to see the box designs for the European <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/12/15/nintendo-dates-play-on-wii-other-2009-releases-for-europe/">NEW PLAY CONTROL!</a> </em>series. We do actually know most of these dates already (so yeah, maybe the mushroom cloud is a bit excessive), but there's still the occasional scrap of <span style="font-style: italic;">new news</span> buried within.<br /><br />Those <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/11/20/tenchu-4-surprise-boxart-attack/"><span style="font-style: italic;">Tenchu</span></a> and <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/10/08/little-kings-very-cute-little-trailer/"><span style="font-style: italic;">Little King's Story</span></a> dates are fresh to us, and there's also confirmation of the first <span style="text-decoration: line-through;">Play on Wii</span> "<a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/10/31/point-counterpoint-yea-or-nay-play-on-wii/">New Play Control</a>" games, <span style="font-style: italic;">Pikmin</span> and <span style="font-style: italic;">Mario Power Tennis</span>. For the record, "New Play Control" is a bit of a rubbish name for the series. In our humble opinion, obviously.<br /><br />Make the jump for the full line-up, and remember you can click on a game's name to bring up screens (where available)!<br /><br /><p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/12/17/nintendo-unleashes-full-q1-schedule/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Nintendo unleashes full Q1 schedule</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/12/17/nintendo-unleashes-full-q1-schedule/">Nintendo unleashes full Q1 schedule</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 17 Dec 2008 11:46:00 EST. Supposedly, a list for what's coming next year in Europe was issued by NoE and it's been found on a few sites. The problem is that none of these sites source anything entirely credible, so we're remaining a bit skeptical on this one. What are you waiting for? Dive past the break for this rather extensive list of what's apparently going to release in Europe, including some <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/play-on-wii">Play on Wii</a> titles, next year.<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/12/15/nintendo-dates-play-on-wii-other-2009-releases-for-europe/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Nintendo dates Play on Wii, other 2009 releases for Europe</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/12/15/nintendo-dates-play-on-wii-other-2009-releases-for-europe/">Nintendo dates Play on Wii, other 2009 releases for Europe</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Mon, 15 Dec 2008 12:00:00 EST. When Nintendo announced that they'd be <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/10/02/pikmin-remake-launches-dec-25-in-japan-nintendo-unveils-more-p/">porting GameCube titles to the Wii</a> with updated features, many responded with trepidation, fearing Nintendo was attempting to fix things that were far from broken. Japan will see if these fears are merited as the first of these Wii-makes hits store shelves tomorrow in the form of <em>Donkey Kong Jungle Beat</em>, but <a href="http://wii.ign.com/articles/937/937178p1.html">Famitsu recently dropped some details</a> about changes in two titles that might be more successful in tickling your fancy -- <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/10/31/pikmin-mario-power-tennis-revealed-as-first-play-on-wii-title/"><em>Pikmin</em> and <em>Mario Power Tennis</em></a>.<br />
<br />
Famitsu reveals that Nintendo's <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/10/02/pikmin-to-be-remade-on-wii-first-of-gamecube-masterpiece-seri/">floral take on <em>Lemmings</em></a> (which is dropping in Japan on Christmas) will feature a new save system that stores day-to-day records of your play time. Whenever you boot up <em>Pikmin</em>, you can continue your game by jumping back into any day of your choosing. Unsurprisingly, a new feature revealed for <em>Mario Power Tennis</em> is a renovated, <em>Wii Sports </em>Tennis-esque control scheme -- though the new title will be compatible with the Nunchuck, likely giving you control over your character's movements on the court. Japanese racqueteers can pick up <em>Mario Power Tennis</em> on January 15.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/12/10/new-features-for-pikmin-mario-tennis-wii-makes-revealed/">New features for Pikmin, Mario Tennis Wii-makes revealed</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 10 Dec 2008 14:20:00 EST. <br />It seems we were hasty when we <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/11/12/play-on-wii-donkey-kong-has-new-stages-drastic-changes/">wrote</a> that the "<a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/wii-de-asobu">Play on Wii</a>" version of <em>Pikmin</em> would feature "no new content, the modified control scheme aside." The latest <em>Famitsu</em>, as translated by IGN, reveals that the game's save mechanism has also been updated, and now allows you to restart play from any day you please. So, if 98 of your 100 precious plant warriors get singed by a troublesome <a href="http://pikmin.wikia.com/wiki/Fiery_Blowhog">Fiery Blowhog</a>, you can avert disaster by turning back time. <br />According to a <em>Famitsu</em> article translated by IGN, at least one game from Nintendo's forthcoming <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/10/31/point-counterpoint-yea-or-nay-play-on-wii/">Play on Wii</a> series will feature deeper modifications than slapped-on Wii controls. We've often <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/10/31/counterpoint-foul-play-on-wii/">questioned</a> how well <em>Donkey Kong Jungle Beat</em> would work with the Wiimote and Nunchuk (given that the original game was played with <em>plastic bongos</em>), and Nintendo also seems unsure.<br /><br />Because of this, the remade <em>Jungle Beat</em> is being moulded into a more traditional platformer, with repositioned enemies, new mid-level checkpoints, and only a handful of motion-controlled moves (The nunchuk's analog stick moves Donkey Kong, and the A button makes him jump). Significantly, there will also be completely new stages, though <em>Famitsu </em>didn't reveal further details (such as how many). The remake of <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/10/02/pikmin-leads-off-wii-collection-of-gamecube-masterpieces/"><em>Pikmin</em></a>, incidentally, will feature no new content, the modified control scheme aside.<br /><br />Can <em>Jungle Beat</em> work as a traditional platformer? We'll hold judgment on that, while noting that the DK Bongos played a major role in making the original game fun.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/11/12/play-on-wii-donkey-kong-has-new-stages-drastic-changes/">Play on Wii Donkey Kong has new stages, drastic changes</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 12 Nov 2008 14:35:00 EST. Tucked away in a newly released Nintendo <a href="http://www.nintendo.co.jp/ir/pdf/2008/081031.pdf">software schedule PDF</a> is the first confirmation that the "<a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/10/02/pikmin-to-be-remade-on-wii-first-of-gamecube-masterpiece-seri/">Play on Wii</a>" series of GameCube Wiimakes is US-bound. Today, we found <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/10/31/nintendo-directs-pikmin-remake-to-north-america/">solid evidence</a> of a <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/10/14/play-on-wii-pikmin-ports-possibly-us-bound/">North American release</a>. While GameCube games are, of course, currently playable on Wii, these new ports will enable motion and pointer-based control schemes, allowing new players to use the "simpler" Wii controls, and existing fans to play favorites in a new way. At least, that's the idea, we think.<br /><br />But is it a good idea to port these games and try to sell them again? Is it good for the fans? For the games? For the Wii? For the win? We say yes! And also no. That's kind of how debating works!<br /><br />

<br />Nintendo has published a list of Wii releases for 2009, and while it's some way from being a <em>complete</em> list, the news for North America ranges from great to ominous. We want to start this post on a happy note, so we'll begin by saying: the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/play-on-wii/">Play on Wii</a> remake of <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/10/02/pikmin-leads-off-wii-collection-of-gamecube-masterpieces/"><em>Pikmin</em></a> -- just the first game -- is totally coming to the U.S. The schedule also confirms the <em>Mario Power Tennis</em> remake for the States, so it looks like those two will lead the brand off here.<br /><br />But there's worrying news as well. For one, <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/10/27/wii-fanboy-review-disaster-day-of-crisis/"><em>Disaster: Day of Crisis</em></a> still isn't down for a North American release. Okay, so this isn't actually <em>that</em> surprising, as Reggie (who <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/10/30/say-what-you-think-reggie-lays-into-disaster-day-of-crisis/">isn't the title's biggest fan</a>, remember) has <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/10/03/reggie-answers-questions-about-disaster-fatal-frame-iv/">said all along</a> that any U.S. release hinges on the performance of the game in Europe. As <em>Disaster</em> only came out in Europe last Friday, we still don't know how it fared, though will find out soon enough. Also missing are numerous Play on Wii remakes, including <em>Donkey Kong Jungle Beat</em>, <em>Chibi-Robo</em>, and the two <em>Metroid Prime</em>s.<br /><br />We'll say this again, just in case: this is definitely a bare-bones list, with not every Wii release of next year featuring. We're not about to give up on getting <em>Disaster </em>just yet.<br /><br />[Via <a href="http://www.siliconera.com/2008/10/31/pikmin-mario-tennis-wii-makes-coming-to-north-america-disaster-day-of-crisis-nowhere-to-be-found/">Siliconera</a>]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/10/31/nintendo-directs-pikmin-remake-to-north-america/">Nintendo directs Pikmin remake to North America</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Fri, 31 Oct 2008 15:25:00 EST. The ESRB's listings for <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/10/03/play-on-wii-new-videos-of-old-games/">Pikmin</a> </em>and <em>Pikmin 2</em> have been updated: they haven't been re-rated AO due to recently-uncovered adult content or anything like that, but they're now listed for both GameCube and Wii! This makes it very likely that Nintendo of America is at least planning to release the ported '<a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/10/02/pikmin-leads-off-wii-collection-of-gamecube-masterpieces/">Play on Wii</a>' versions of those two games.<br /><br />None of the other Play on Wii games, including <em>Donkey Kong Jungle Beat, Chibi-Robo, Mario Power Tennis</em>, and <em>Metroid Prime 1</em> and <em>2</em>, are currently listed on the ESRB as Wii games. Chances are that the <em>Pikmins</em> are the ones most Nintendo fans were most interested in anyway. <br /><br />[Via <a href="http://www.omgnintendo.com/article/103959/pikmin-wii-re-makes-heading-to-north-america/">OMGNintendo</a>]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/10/14/play-on-wii-pikmin-ports-possibly-us-bound/">'Play on Wii' Pikmin ports possibly US-bound</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 14 Oct 2008 12:42:00 EST. If you were overcome by that sinking feeling -- more like a freefalling plummet -- after reading <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/10/02/pikmin-to-be-remade-on-wii-first-of-gamecube-masterpiece-seri/">yesterday's news</a>, fret not, Cammie Dunaway has confirmed that there is a true <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/pikmin"><em>Pikmin</em></a> sequel in the works. "It's not the <em>Pikmin</em> that Mr. Miyamoto <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/07/16/miyamoto-were-making-pikmin/">referred to</a>, no. When <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/10/02/pikmin-leads-off-wii-collection-of-gamecube-masterpieces/">Play on Wii was announced</a>, we all wondered if this was the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/pikmin"><em>Pikmin</em></a> that <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/07/16/e308-a-new-pikmin-sprouts/">Shigeru Miyamoto talked about</a> back at E3. According to Cammie Dunaway, it is not and Nintendo is in fact working on a brand new <em>Pikmin </em>game. <br /><br />When asked about the confusion, Cammie said this Play on Wii game is "not the <em>Pikmin</em> that Mr. Miyamoto referred to" and that "Mr. Miyamoto referred to a new <em>Pikmin</em>, as opposed to the classics that are being rereleased on Wii." So, aside from selling us old games again, Nintendo also wants to sell us new games. Sounds good to us!<br /><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/10/03/cammie-dunaway-clears-up-pikmin-confusion/">Cammie Dunaway clears up Pikmin confusion</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Fri, 03 Oct 2008 14:37:00 EST. Nintendo has released the first (silent) videos of the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/10/02/nintendo-dates-pikmin-port-names-other-play-on-wii-titles/"><em>Wii de Asobu (Play on Wii)</em></a> series, and, well, it's a nice feeling to know ahead of time that a Wii game is going to look just like a GameCube game, and for that to be okay. We have video of the first two games in the series: one of which is a shining example of the potential of pointer control to rejuvenate a GameCube game, and one is a mistake.<br />
<br />
In the <em>Pikmin </em>video above, you can see the pointer-controlled cursor in action, looking pretty much like it was always supposed to be there. IGN has confirmed that the "Play on Wii" <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/10/02/pikmin-leads-off-wii-collection-of-gamecube-masterpieces/"><em>Pikmin</em> port</a> is more than just a repackaging -- it and the other Play on Wii GameCube games will have updated Wiimote controls. <em>Pikmin</em> is actually the <em>second</em> of these to be released, and it'll hit Japan on December 25 of this year for 3,800 yen ($36). It'll be preceded on December 11 by the game we officially nominate Least Likely to Benefit from New Controls: <em>Donkey Kong Jungle Beat.</em> If these games are released here, we would expect them to be slightly cheaper than the Japanese price (like all games).<br />
<br />
Titles announced for 2009 include <em>Mario Tennis, Metroid Prime 1 </em>and <em>2</em>, <em>Pikmin 2</em>, and -- best of all --<em> <a href="http://www.google.com/url?sa=t&amp;source=web&amp;ct=res&amp;cd=5&amp;url=http%3A%2F%2Fen.wikipedia.org%2Fwiki%2FChibi-Robo!&amp;ei=HuPkSMCyMIHWgQL5veXMCw&amp;usg=AFQjCNEwG56SWoTaNpZvkCJl5xBuJHAM-Q&amp;sig2=EB28PknWBEJY2M0fSCFG-Q">Chibi-Robo!</a></em> It'll be interesting to see if Skip makes it a point-and-click like it was originally.<br />

This Christmas, Japanese gamers will be able to waggle flowery lemmings to their hearts content. Nintendo has announced (via <a href="http://wii.ign.com/articles/915/915529p1.html ">IGN</a>) that the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/10/02/pikmin-to-be-remade-on-wii-first-of-gamecube-masterpiece-seri/"><em>Pikmin</em> remake</a> for Wii will launch December 25 in Japan for 3,800 yen (approx. US $36). The game is part of Nintendo's new "Play for Wii" series, which will be a collection of GameCube titles revised with Wii controls.<br />
<br />
Before <em>Pikmin</em> (and not counting previous Wii remake <em>Resident Evil 4</em>), Nintendo will re-release <em>Donkey Kong Jungle Beat </em>on December 11. Upcoming titles in the collection include <em>Chibi Robo, Pikmin 2, Mario Tennis GC, Metroid Prime</em>, and <em>Metroid Prime 2 Dark Echoes</em>. No word on any release dates outside of Japan, but we'll be live at Nintendo of America's press conference in San Francisco later today.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/10/02/pikmin-remake-launches-dec-25-in-japan-nintendo-unveils-more-p/">Pikmin remake launches Dec. 25 in Japan, Nintendo unveils more 'Play for Wii' titles</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 02 Oct 2008 09:35:00 EST. Nintendo has announced that it will be releasing "Wii de Asobu" (Play on Wii) Selections, GameCube titles remade for the Wii. Not including last year's <em>Resident Evil 4 </em>remake, President Satoru Iwata revealed at today's Japanese press conference that <em>Pikmin</em> will be the first title to receive a Wii makeover. We're <em>really</em> hoping this isn't the <em>Pikmin</em> title <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/07/16/miyamoto-were-making-pikmin/">Miyamoto revealed at E3</a>.<br />

In a recent Club Nintendo interview, Reggie Fils-Aime and Shigeru Miyamoto both touched on some important things on the mind of all Wii owners. The first thing that many are <em>still</em> asking about is <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/08/13/save-your-vc-games-to-the-wii-hard-drive/">the lack of a hard drive</a>. Well, Miyamoto commented that the company is still working on it and exploring all of the possible technologies, to which Reggie added that the company hasn't specified a traditional hard drive or another kind of storage, but will create a solution that is "better than what we have now."<br /><br />Miyamoto was also asked about MotionPlus and incorporating it into future <em>Zelda</em> games. Miyamoto said that Nintendo was working on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/07/15/e308-iwata-mario-and-zelda-teams-hard-at-work/">a new <em>Zelda</em> game</a> (and also <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/08/12/nintendo-registers-mysterious-trademark-for-piktura/"><em>Pikmin</em></a>), but would not comment as to each title supporting Waggle 2.0. He also commented that we shouldn't expect any new peripherals any time soon, seeing as how there are so many available for the Wii now. We're glad for that, because our limited closet space has meant that storing them all has been a big hassle.<br /><br />So, the biggest thing to come out of this piece for Club Nintendo is more of <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/04/23/revolutionary-wii-can-has-hard-drive/">the hard drive talk</a>, although we guess we can't call it that, since Nintendo may want something different than a traditional hard drive. What other kind of technologies could they mean? What could be a comparable storage solution to a hard drive and yet <em>not </em>be a hard drive?<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/09/08/miyamoto-and-reggie-talk-storage-solutions-peripherals/">Miyamoto and Reggie talk storage solutions, peripherals</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Mon, 08 Sep 2008 11:52:00 EST. <br />By now, we're all familiar with the chain of events that unfolded after <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/e308">E3</a>. Nintendo showed off a <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/07/15/e308-wii-sports-resort-announced/">bunch</a> of <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/07/15/e308-animal-crossing-city-folk-confirmed/">games</a> in its E3 2008 press conference that apparently didn't meet the expectations of the "hardcore" set. Said group immediately accused Nintendo of abandoning them. Nintendo stepped in to say that, no, titles for more <em>serious</em> gamers were <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/07/15/e308-iwata-mario-and-zelda-teams-hard-at-work/">currently being made</a>, so keep your hair on.<br /><br />Now, Nintendo has felt compelled to say it again, and warn us that we will have to wait for our treats. "We have developers working on popular core gaming franchises but we need longer to complete [them], approximately two to three years," the company stated in the latest issue of <em>Edge</em>, before adding that none will be ready to launch in early 2009.<br /><br />So it's going to be at least late next year before we see any new <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/zelda"><em>Zelda</em></a>, <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/mario"><em>Mario</em></a>, and presumably <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/07/16/e308-a-new-pikmin-sprouts/"><em>Pikmin</em></a> also. Express your <em>rage</em> in the comments field below.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/08/26/nintendo-pleads-patience-for-core-games/">Nintendo pleads patience for 'core' games</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 26 Aug 2008 16:25:00 EST. During an interview with <a href="http://news.vgchartz.com/news.php?id=1706">VGChartz</a>, Nintendo's resident wrist-hurting, Shaun White-introducing marketing lady, Cammie Dunaway, commented that <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/07/19/e308-wii-fanboys-e3-endgame-evaluation/">Nintendo's E3 showing</a> was a bit of a disappointment. You don't say?<br /><br />"I would say the message is we were disappointed with our performance at E3," commented Dunaway. "There were titles like <em>Wario</em> which we think will be really fun titles that we should have show cased." Yes, we'd have to agree. It was certainly <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/07/17/e308-wii-fanboy-hands-on-with-wario-land-shake-it/">the best game we played</a> at the show. But what about <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/07/16/e308-a-new-pikmin-sprouts/">this <em>Pikmin 3</em> business</a>? <br /><br />"We were excited that Mr. Miyamoto made the commitment that <em>Pikmin</em> is coming," she said. "It would have been nice if we could have said that on stage. But, we think it was a good recognition for us that we care for our core fans, and not just the new people who are now discovering Nintendo."<br /><br />

Siliconera spotted an unidentified Japanese trademark application from Nintendo, registered in June. The trademark is for the title "Piktura." Of course, it could be absolutely <em>anything</em>, from some kind of EyeToy-style webcam to a <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/category/WiiWare/">WiiWare</a> drawing app to some internal technology that consumers will never know about and which won't show up in Nintendo hardware for ten years.<br /><br />But, as Siliconera pointed out, it starts with "Pik," and that makes it <em>not</em> entirely impossible that this trademark is <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/Pikmin/">Pikmin</a>-</em>related. Maybe it suggests generating <em>Pikmin</em> environments out of photos! The possibility of a connection to the <em>Pikmin</em> game that <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/07/16/e308-a-new-pikmin-sprouts/">Miyamoto confirmed</a> is <em>infinitely</em> more exciting than some random thing nobody knows about.<br /><br />[Minor update: changed a weird joke to something less weird.]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/08/12/nintendo-registers-mysterious-trademark-for-piktura/">Nintendo registers mysterious trademark for 'Piktura'</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 12 Aug 2008 15:35:00 EST. In news of the weird, <a href="http://business.timesonline.co.uk/tol/business/industry_sectors/technology/article4488157.ece">The Times Online</a> reports that Nintendo is (politely, we're sure) asking master game designer Shigeru Miyamoto - you know, the guy that made that game with the plumber and the gorilla? - not to discuss his hobbies outside of games with ... anyone. According to the article, "any glimpse inside his head could be worth billions," which is why we're crating up our MRIs of his noggin and shipping them off to Area 51.<br /><br />The Times makes a rather bold assumption that Miyamoto basically designs everything at Nintendo, including its consoles - he does have a good deal of influence, but the Big N has at least a <em>few</em> other employees - stating that, with regards to the Wii's successor, the "only place where the discussion [of its design] has any grounding is inside Mr. Miyamoto's head." <br /><br />We imagine all this talk of Miyamoto's hobbies has its roots in the origins of <a href="http://jwww.joystiq.com/tag/pikmin"><em>Pikmin</em></a>, which <em>Mario</em>'s papa has publically stated was inspired by his time spent gardening, or <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/zelda"><em>Zelda</em></a>, which was at least partially influenced by his love of exploring caves near his home as a young boy. Actually, it may be <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Devil_World"><em>Devil World</em></a>, which was based on his <em>very</em> <em>favorite</em> hobby: dressing up as a dragon and battling demons in <em>Pac-Man</em>-like mazes. Yep, that's <em>definitely</em> it.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/08/11/miyamotos-hobbies-are-none-of-your-business/">Miyamoto's hobbies are none of your business</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Mon, 11 Aug 2008 15:00:00 EST. This makes sense given that <a href="http://nintendowiifanboy.com/tag/miyamoto">Shigeru Miyamoto</a> often claims to draw direct inspiration for his games from the activities he does on his time off. He decides to start gardening, and <em>Pikmin</em> is born. He gets into exercise, and <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/08/07/gosen-60-of-wii-fit-purchasers-played-it-once/"><em>Wii Fit</em></a> appears. He takes up pretending to play the saxophone, and the idea for <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/08/08/nintendo-wii-music-wont-compete-with-the-music-game-market/"><em>Wii Music</em></a> is born. <br /><br />The idea is, then, if somebody asks Miyamoto what he does in his spare time, and <em>Miyamoto answers</em>, the secret of Nintendo's next huge hit will be revealed. And thus his life must be shrouded in secrecy until such time as his next game is announced and he can start the PR talk about how it was inspired by his life.<br /><br />[Via <a href="http://www.gamasutra.com/php-bin/news_index.php?story=19770">Gamasutra</a>]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/08/11/miyamotos-hobbies-are-now-trade-secrets/">Miyamoto's hobbies are now trade secrets</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Mon, 11 Aug 2008 12:59:00 EST. <br />Okay, we'd advise you take this news with a <strike>pinch</strike> huge damn barrel of salt, but UK-based retailer Play.com now has <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/07/16/e308-a-new-pikmin-sprouts/"><em>Pikmin 3</em></a> listed for release on March 27th, 2009. Our first thoughts upon spying this detail were as follows:<br />
<ol>
    <li>March 27th, 2009 is a rather random date to simply pluck out of thin air, don'cha think?<br /></li>
    <li>It's also a Friday, the day when games usually launch in Euroland.</li>
    <li>Play is a UK-based site, so this may well be a European date (if it's even true). </li>
    <li>The specificity of the date only makes it more convincing to us.</li>
    <li>March 27th, 2009 really is quite a long way off. Boo hoo.<br /></li>
</ol>
Heck, it's the weekend, so let the wanton speculation ensue!<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/07/20/rumor-pikmin-3-to-bloom-next-march/">Rumor: Pikmin 3 to bloom next March?</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Sun, 20 Jul 2008 12:00:00 EST. <div align="left">In the second year of the newly revamped show, Nintendo released a few much-desired games, as well as a pair of incredible peripherals, and yet, there seemed to be something missing. Much of the show's excitement came from third parties (on <em>my</em> Nintendo Wii?), and some found Nintendo's announcements disappointing. Whatever your reaction, we're sure we can all agree on one thing: there was a <em>ton</em> of news and a flood of media. Luckily, you can revisit it all right here (even the week's <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/07/16/dead-rising-to-eat-brains-of-wii-gamers/">most outrageous story</a>, which wasn't even from E3).<br /><br />We've listed a few of the show's highlights below, but for the full index of all our 2008 E3 coverage, hit the break. We still have a few items rolling in, and we'll be updating the index as that happens. Check back with us over the next few days by clicking the E3 sidebar graphic.<br /> </div>

<br />Because we've also <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/07/18/ds-daily-e3/">asked DS fans</a>, we thought we'd pose the same question here: how would <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/wwu">you</a> rate the Wii's E3?<br /><br />Despite the angry tidal wave of criticism over what many (but <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/07/16/e308-reggie-baffled-by-outcry-over-conference/">not all</a>) saw as a disappointing Nintendo keynote, the more recent announcement of a third <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/07/16/e308-a-new-pikmin-sprouts/"><em>Pikmin</em></a> game seems to have tempered the outcry a little.
