There's no word yet on other regions. While Nintendo recently announced the Animal Crossing and Pikachu 3DS XLs for the west, for now, much like one of the Queen's hats, this particular portable is big, pink, and only in the UK.

According to a post on the company's Facebook page, it'l be out this week "at stores coast to coast." It would probably look really nice with a bouquet of roses. Just saying.

Today, Nintendo announced that a standalone release for the Pearl Pink handheld will be offered Feb. 10, for $169.99. Of course, since the bundle was the same price, this isn't so much a cheaper option as it is no free game.

In the announcement of the standalone release, Nintendo positions it as a Valentine's Day-themed item and suggests ways the 3DS can help sweethearts get closer, including snapping photos of dates with the camera (aww), bringing out each other's "sweet side" with a virtual puppy, playing Pushmo and Freakyforms (o... kay) and racing each other in Mario Kart 7. That last one is more likely to end a relationship than start one, we're afraid.

The UK will also see a bundle-free release of the pink 3DS on Feb. 10, along with the Ice White model, which has yet to be released in North America in any form. Don't worry, we're sure it will.

GAME Watch has posted images of the chromatically enhanced controllers, which reveal a blue that looks similar to, if a little darker than, the lovely, limited Wii Sports Resort Wiimotes given away in Japan.

When these are released, Nintendo will have achieved a milestone: a different Wii Remote color for each of four players. Currently, no announcements have been made outside of Japan, but with the black Wiimote on the way to North America, and the black system and Classic Controller Pro announced for Europe today, it seems like only a matter of time before all Wiimote variants are available everywhere.

After a few controversial picks, I've decided to take the edge off and pick on an easy target. After all, doesn't picking on the weak make us all feel a little better? So don't worry about today: we've got not one but TWO S's replaced with Z's!

Pedigree

Instead of talking about the developer and publisher, let's just take a long look at the title. It's in three parts. First: "Bratz," a franchise which has been criticized locally for allegedly attempting to sell sex to children. Abroad, things are even worse: "On December 21, 2006, the National Labor Committee announced that the factory workers in China, who make Bratz dolls, labor for 94.5 hours a week, while the factory pays only $0.515 an hour, $4.13 a day. The per doll amount is $0.17, much less than the Bratz dolls actually cost (from $20 to $40)." (Wikipedia).

And most important of all, let's not forget the last letter of the first word, a disgusting trait also shared with the second word: "Ponyz." When did the letter "S" become uncool? Did he totally say ohmigod and she was all like "right?" Or did Z suddenly become incredibly popular? Did Z come skateboarding through space while wearing sunglasses and playing a hot pink electric guitar? That's still cool, right?

Finally, we have the number 2 ... as if there were so many unanswered questions at the end of Bratz Ponyz 1.

While we're still waiting for that leopard skin Wiimote wrist strap of our dreams, Nintendo will shortly release green, blue, pink, and white straps in Japan. Other than helping to distinguish Wiimotes between multiplayer sessions, we can't really think of a compelling need for these non-threatening, pastel accessories, but perhaps they're a sign that matching controllers are on the way? That's probably a long shot, but it would be nice.

For those of you with an interest in importing, these are scheduled to appear next month for ¥300 ($2.80) each, or you can snag the four-pack above for ¥1,000 ($9.25). For those of you who are too cheap for even that, you can make your own for nada.

For the majority of us, repairing a broken DS Lite (which is a fairly rare thing, unless you happen to be friends with G4 or something) is accomplished through doing nothing more than picking up the phone and calling Nintendo. But, some are more brave than us, taking the responsibility of maintaining the integrity of their precious handheld upon themselves.

Enter flickr user shalf, who has a daughter that broke the power switch on her pink DS Lite. Like a good dad, he isn't going to make her wait for the time it takes to ship the handheld to Nintendo and get it back repaired, he's done it himself! And, thankfully, he's taken tons of pictures and placed them on his flickr page for all to see. Hopefully, some of you out there thinking about taking apart your DS Lite can learn a thing or two from his efforts.

This isn't the first time we've featured other folks repairing their handhelds. You can check out how to replace a screen here, as well as how to take apart the whole thing here. Turns out, the rumor is true: the Metallic Rose DS Lite will be available for standalone purchase starting later this month. So, for those of you that liked the look of the unit available in the Nintendogs bundle, yet didn't want Nintendo's puppy sim (or that big paw print on the unit), you're in luck.

Nintendo comments that you'll soon be seeing commercials for this new DS Lite color soon, stating that as of Monday, May 19th, you'll see celebrities America Ferrera and Carrie Underwood "featured in commercials for the Metallic Rose version of Nintendo DS."

Anybody interested in picking this model up, either for themselves, or as a gift?

As we were spending time perusing through flickr photos (because we like to see how people who aren't chained to a laptop and forced to blog forever live), we came across the interesting picture you see to your right. Now, we know nothing of traditional Indian weddings (which we're assuming this is, also we know nothing of plain old regular weddings, either), but we do know about getting our game on. Honestly, we're just surprised that everyone is all smiles as she plays away on her sweet pink DS Lite. We thought weddings were supposed to be ultra serious and that they left no room for enjoying games. Shows what we know!

Even our own Eric Caoili admits to enjoying his DS a bit before his own wedding. He remarks that he was playing some Mr. Driller minutes before it all went down. We congratulate him on both playing an awesome game and having the guts to possibly anger the bride-to-be on their wedding day. The man has courage, we'll give him that! But, then again, we're sure that she couldn't argue with the merits of drilling several hundred meters underground.

A fairly dreary, rubbish "rainbow," admittedly, but a rainbow of sorts. These 'chuks are all part of Nyko's new Kama range of wireless nunchuks, and are classified as gray, black, pink, and gold (the one on the right, apparently). They also happen to be limited edition, and that's probably why Nyko is happy to charge us $35 per nunchuk, a considerable mark-up on the $20 you'd pay for a standard wired Nunchuck (how passé!). The gray ones are up for sale now (there's 300 of them to go round), and the other colors will follow in the coming days (the black and gold are the rarest, numbering only 150).

Nyko already has a wireless nunchuck out on the market previously released a wireless Nunchuck adapter, so we don't doubt that these would also do the job nicely. However, unlike the adapter, this is a standalone wireless Nunchuck. No messy cords to bundle up. But $35 for a peripheral that will clash with our lovely white Wiimotes? We'll pass on this one.

The annual pre-"Black Friday" bargain hunting has started among predatory shoppers, and we're already reaping the benefits of shoppers' insane vigilance. This detail from a Sears ad has revealed two new DS hardware configurations. We already knew of the gold Phantom Hourglass box, but this is the firmest confirmation we've seen from an actual retailer.

More interesting is the reveal of a metallic pink Nintendogs: Best Friends Edition bundle for $149.99. We don't know if this is a Sears exclusive, but the little ad clipping makes no mention of exclusivity. We doubt it, since one of our intrepid commenters hinted at exactly this hardware for GameStop as well. A new hardware bundle for a two-year-old game? Seems ludicrous on the outset, but it'll probably sell a (few million) bundle(s).

They're here, they're pretty ugly, get used to it. The new colored Xbox 360 controllers are now available to purchase for $49.99. We really couldn't say it better than X3F when they pointed out these are the perfect "It's a Boy" or "It's a Girl" baby shower gift colors. Sadly, the powder blue controller we were hoping for and saw at E3 won't be in North America just yet, but you can always import it from Japan starting November 1. And just remember, if you hate all these colors, you can always make your own.

A mysterious NeoGAF poster called CubeRevolution is reporting, via equally mysterious sources, a new DS Lite bundle for Europe, to be released in September. The purported bundle will consist of a pink DS Lite and a copy of Harvest Moon DS, and will retail for 149.99 Euros, which, for those of us who don't habitually shop with Euros, is the usual cost of a DS Lite alone.

CubeRevolution said that an official statement about this bundle would be made during the Leipzig Games Convention, which takes place from August 23-26. If you a) live in Europe, b) want a pink DS, and c) would enjoy either Harvest Moon DS or an extra game to trade in, we recommend waiting until after the Games Convention to make your purchase, just in case this turns out to be true.

Yesterday, we mentioned that two new Xbox 360 controllers would be available in pink and blue this October. We were all fine and content with the new dark and intense colors, but new photos have us second guessing ourselves. The guys over at MaxConsole posted a shot of the new controllers in their natural habitat and honestly, the pictures supplied on Xbox.com don't match. Well, they are close, because the controllers are pink and blue, but in reality the controllers are more Easter egg pastel than dark intense colors. We're officially renaming the color descriptions to "puffy cloud sky blue" and "soft and gentle I need love pink". They're perfect for baby showers too!

The Scene It controllers aren't the only cue that Microsoft has been taking from Nintendo lately. The coral pink Xbox 360 controller, along with the powder blue, just scream for you to pick them up and say, "Awwww." It's just the perfect color for that girl in your life ... or pastel lover. No word when these will release though you'd think there'd be signage or something like that. Just remember, you can always make your own.

Bored with the dull gray, clunky design of her old Nintendo DS, Marie decorated the dated handheld with lace trim and a ribbon bow, gluing her himegyaru-styled artwork onto its lid. The brick's interior was also gussied up, but with what, we're not sure. Daffodils and closed-eye kisses from Prince Charming maybe?

On its completion, her project sent out a rainbow-tailed shockwave that was felt for miles, magically transforming tough-guy motorcycles into purple unicorns, perfuming musky-scented men, and X-ing out every Y chromosome in its path. Squeal and swoon past the post break for a better view of this girly mod and its Princess Cupcake hood.

Unless you're the type who sharpens a pencil down to its metal crown, the DS Lite stylus just doesn't compare to the familiar weight, thickness, and balance of a pen or pencil. Hori's latest Touch Pen looks like a comfortable and convenient alternative to the stock stylus.

Users drop a standard stylus into the Touch Pen Attachment's casing just like with an ink refill. Including two replaceable styli with every purchase seems a bit unnecessary, but we're not going to argue with free stuff. The pen's wider and taller body will be able to rest on your hand, and the rubber grip makes sure that the stick won't slip out of your fingers during a hectic game of Elite Beat Agents.

The Touch Pen Attachment is as portable as any other writing utensil, but you can also latch it onto the back of your handheld with the two plastic bumps on the clip. From the product shots we've seen, the nubs fit right into the holes meant for the DS Lite's strap.

While the Wii shortage seems to be pretty universally problematical, the situation varies when it comes to the DS. Around here, you can find lots of pink DS Lites, but anything else is a little more difficult lately. Some readers report that they can't find a DS at all, anywhere. Apparently demand varies by region, and stores still haven't rebounded from the holiday rush. Now that February is nearly over, you'd think the stock would increase.

The Pink PSP is all the rage (everywhere but America). But, the Pink PSP headphones are not as nice. At least, according to PSP GadgetZ. The man that buys everything PSP-related was surprised to see that although his new black headphones worked fine, these pink official earbuds do nothing at all. Is it just a one-time defect, or is the entire line-up of pink headphones from Sony busted up? I'd like to think the former, but just in case, you may want to avoid this import.

You can have a pink one, or a pimped out black one. You can go with phat or sleek. You can turn it into a turtle shell or a tank. You can tattoo it or you can go for plain, sparkling white. With the DS, the choice is yours ... and some people like to go for multiples. For DS owners, it seems less is definitely not more. So what about you? Are you packing more than one DS? Was it the lure of a new color, or did you yearn for a special edition? Did you make the transition from phat to lite? We'd love to know if you have more than one DS lying around the house.

And while we're on the subject ... anyone else just itching for the blue ones to make their way outside Japan? Import costs are just no fun.

Sure, the Wii rocked Europe this past weekend -- but the real winner was the DS, which outsold its new console brother by nearly two hundred thousand units. Of course, there were more DS units around, but hey, details, details ....

But it's the same the world over. The Wii is not Nintendo's only star this holiday season, or even its brightest. The little handheld that could continues to rock crazy sales in every market. Best Buy and GameStop employees here in the States report that they can't keep them on the shelves, especially the newer Noble Coral Pink DS Lites.

It's a good year to be a Nintendo fan.

[Update 1: Since we're not in Japan, it's tragically Coral Pink. Noble is way cooler.]
