But for several employees of Kyoto, Japan-based Q-Games - the studio behind the PixelJunk series and co-developer of Star Fox 64 3D - it's the time each day in which one creative (albeit professional) outlet is briefly shut down in favor of another.<br /><br />It's when the game creators become a troupe of improvisational musicians, laying down sprawling, electronic-tinged odysseys with titles like "Echoes Infinite" and "Mesmantra," most of which are quickly shared online.<br /><br />Nearing its first full year of existence, The Electric Bends has six recurring members, well over 100 recordings, and three albums, with additional releases on the horizon. Amid heavy work on <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/11/02/q-games-working-on-pixeljunk-1-6-for-pc/">PixelJunk 1-6</a></em>, how does the game industry's preeminent lunch break band keep the beat with just an hour-or-so a day to play together?<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2013/01/29/melodies-at-mealtime-behind-the-electric-bends-q-games-lunch/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Melodies at mealtime: Behind The Electric Bends, Q-Games' lunch break band</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2013/01/29/melodies-at-mealtime-behind-the-electric-bends-q-games-lunch/">Melodies at mealtime: Behind The Electric Bends, Q-Games' lunch break band</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 29 Jan 2013 11:00:00 EST. For one thing, this one is being made for PC first rather than PS3, as other PixelJunks have been. And for another, Q-Games is showing it to us before even telling us what it is, with a development log full of screenshots and mocked-up magazine covers.<br /><br />The information as presented shows a conflict between indigenous creatures of an alien planet, including ostrich things and octopus-type creatures, and a soup company that builds factories on the planet and makes that indigenous life into soup. The screenshot Q sent to us suggests that players will use different weapons and vehicles to kill enemies and turn them into soup.<br /><br />PixelJunk 1-6, whatever it is, is being designed for Steam and Big Picture Mode, and will support four players. Coincidentally, that's the number of Q-Games staffers working on it!<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/11/02/q-games-working-on-pixeljunk-1-6-for-pc/">Q-Games working on PixelJunk 1-6 for PC</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Fri, 02 Nov 2012 11:30:00 EST. Q-Games fans looking to get their hands on the studio's latest, <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/pixeljunk-sidescroller"><em>PixelJunk Sidescrollers</em></a>, will get a chance to shoot a lot of stuff on October 25. In the meanwhile, it seems we must all be content with watching things get shot in this launch trailer.<br />

Yesterday, during the Casual Connect conference, Q-Games' Jesse Venbrux revealed the new browser-based <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/07/21/pixeljunk-monsters-migrating-to-browsers/"><em>PixelJunk Monsters</em> game</a>, the first <em>PixelJunk</em> game not to be tied to a PlayStation platform.<br />
<br />
A press release from Q-Games offered just a bit more information about the upcoming game, which appears to be officially titled <em>PixelJunk Monsters: Social Network Version</em>. The browser version will be free-to-play when it launches this year. As seen in the first screenshot, it features a new world map.<br />
<br />
Speaking of screenshots, Q-Games included a couple more, which we've placed in the browser-based, free-to-play gallery below.<div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/pixeljunk-monsters-social-network-version/">PixelJunk Monsters: Social Network Version</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/pixeljunk-monsters-social-network-version/#4314368"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2011/07/pjmonstersgameplay_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/pixeljunk-monsters-social-network-version/#4314369"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2011/07/pjmonsterstitle_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/pixeljunk-monsters-social-network-version/#4314370"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2011/07/pjmonstersworldmap_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/07/22/browser-based-pixeljunk-monsters-coming-later-this-year/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Browser-based Pixeljunk Monsters coming later this year</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/07/22/browser-based-pixeljunk-monsters-coming-later-this-year/">Browser-based Pixeljunk Monsters coming later this year</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Fri, 22 Jul 2011 15:00:00 EST. 	<a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/06/09/pixeljunk-sidescroller-preview-normal-is-hard/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2011/06/gampixeljunksidescrollerneon530.jpg" style="border-top-width: 1px; border-right-width: 1px; border-bottom-width: 1px; border-left-width: 1px; border-top-style: solid; border-right-style: solid; border-bottom-style: solid; border-left-style: solid; margin-left: 4px; margin-right: 4px; margin-top: 4px; margin-bottom: 4px; " /></a></div>
Though I wouldn't characterize any of Q-Games' titles as being especially easy, none possess the penchant for punishment boasted by the recently announced <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/pixeljunk-sidescroller"><em>PixelJunk Sidescroller</em></a>. That's fairly appropriate, considering the hellacious difficulty barriers that are customary for the shoot-em-up genre. Still, it's tough to stop and smell the audiovisual roses that pepper the stylish developer's games when you're also concerned with weaving through wall after wall of small, spherical bullets.<br />
<br />
Preparing myself for a somewhat relaxing synesthetic experience, my decision at <em>PixelJunk Sidescroller</em>'s difficulty screen was absentminded: "Normal should be fine," I said, with unknowing hubris. <em>It was far from fine</em>.<br />

The half-hour long uninterrupted <em>PixelJunk lifelike</em> preview shown to E3 attendees was prefaced with virtually no introduction or explanation, save for Q-Games founder Dylan Cuthbert explaining to the crowd that the game which was about to be demonstrated is not a game, so that we logically shouldn't expect any gameplay.<br />
<br />
He also added -- before handing the reins to <em>PixelJunk Eden</em> composer Baiyon -- that the studio's unique music generator/visualizer could only be understood by seeing it in action. However, if there was any elucidation to be gained by the bewildering, psychedelic 30 minutes which followed, it sailed far, far over my head.<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/06/08/pixeljunk-lifelike-preview-mad-maestro/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>PixelJunk lifelike preview: Mad Maestro</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/06/08/pixeljunk-lifelike-preview-mad-maestro/">PixelJunk lifelike preview: Mad Maestro</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 08 Jun 2011 14:20:00 EST. Well this seems like an odd omission. A new title from Q Games, <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/pixeljunk-sidescroller"><em>PixelJunk SideScroller</em></a>, is in the works but Sony didn't see fit to mention it during its otherwise pretty damn great press conference. What would "pretty damn great" plus "a new PixelJunk" have rated the presser? <em>We'll never know.</em><br />
<br />
The shooter features two-player local co-op and a look that's not too dissimilar to the aesthetic of <em>PixelJunk Shooter</em>. Makes sense, you know, what with all the shooting. <p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/06/06/pixeljunk-sidescroller-coming-to-ps3/">PixelJunk SideScroller coming to PS3</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Mon, 06 Jun 2011 23:23:00 EST. Sequel design 101: Make your game bigger. Given one of the only complaints fans had with the original <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/pixeljunk-shooter"><em>PixelJunk Shooter</em></a> was its length, the explosion of content in the sequel makes sense. Over a year in the making, <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/pixeljunk-shooter-2"><em>Shooter 2</em></a> has bigger bosses, bigger levels and a bigger feature set. But, bigger doesn't always equal better; while <em>Shooter 2</em> will keep fans busy, it's one of the few "disappointments" from the studio's <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/pixeljunk-eden">otherwise</a> <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/pixeljunk-monsters">impeccable</a> portfolio.<br />
<br />
The most significant addition to the <em>Shooter</em> formula is the new competitive multiplayer feature. I was skeptical at first, doubtful that PvP would be able to retain the game's unique charm. I was proven wrong with my first online battle. The subtle changes to the core mechanics make for an interesting game of cat-and-mouse. Just like in the main game, you must rescue survivors. But, in versus mode, there's someone else hellbent on rescuing more of them than you.<br />
<br />
Each of the maps offer different strategic options, taking advantage of the unique liquidity of the game's levels. Risk maneuvering through an active volcano to avoid enemy fire, for example. Or, try having a shootout in the water, to avoid heating up. Flashier players may even try to steal survivors from an enemy base.<div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/pixeljunk-shooter-2/">PixelJunk Shooter 2</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/pixeljunk-shooter-2/#3958083"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2011/03/jspixeljunktm-shooter-2-01_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/pixeljunk-shooter-2/#3958085"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2011/03/jspixeljunktm-shooter-2-02_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/pixeljunk-shooter-2/#3958095"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2011/03/jspixeljunktm-shooter-2-03_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/pixeljunk-shooter-2/#3958106"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2011/03/jspixeljunktm-shooter-2-04_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/pixeljunk-shooter-2/#3958113"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2011/03/jspixeljunktm-shooter-2-05_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/03/16/pixeljunk-shooter-2-review/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>PixelJunk Shooter 2 review: If it ain't broke, add multiplayer</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/03/16/pixeljunk-shooter-2-review/">PixelJunk Shooter 2 review: If it ain't broke, add multiplayer</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 16 Mar 2011 16:00:00 EST. What are your thoughts on cheese? Seems like a strange question to ask a (fictitious) survivor rescued from deep within a planet in <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/pixeljunk-shooter-2">PixelJunk Shooter 2</a></em>. Then again, this entire live-action clip -- filmed by Q Games boss Dylan Cuthbert -- is just plain strange, in the best possible sense.<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/02/15/pixeljunk-shooter-2-short-ruminates-on-cheese/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>PixelJunk Shooter 2 short ruminates on cheese</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/02/15/pixeljunk-shooter-2-short-ruminates-on-cheese/">PixelJunk Shooter 2 short ruminates on cheese</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 15 Feb 2011 20:00:00 EST. The updated, mercifully easier version of Q-Games' puzzle/racing/party game (now with Trophies!) will be available to PS+ members today, and to everyone else on August 24.<br />
<br />
If you already have <em>PixelJunk Racers</em>, the update will be free, and will allow you to play the new version without overwriting the original content. The sequel to the PSN shooter is "full steam ahead, anchors away and all that ... commotion to that order," Q-Games president Dylan Cuthbert said in a <a href="http://blog.us.playstation.com/2010/05/18/pixeljunk-shooter-2-in-full-production/">PlayStation Blog post</a>. He promised that not only will <em>Shooter 2</em> be larger than the original game, but that "it will have some features that are new to the PixelJunk series in general." <br />
<br />
If you are not intrigued about the sequel simply because you haven't experienced <em>Shooter</em>, Q-Games has something for you too. On May 25, Cuthbert said, a demo of the original <em>PixelJunk Shooter</em> will be released on the PlayStation Network. If you like that, you can buy <em>PixelJunk Shooter</em>, like it, and then join us all in waiting for <em>2</em>.<br />

While <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/assassins-creed-brotherhood"><em>Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood</em></a> may hold the cover spot of the next issue of PlayStation: The Official Magazine, the July 2010 issue will also feature a "lovefest feature" on <em>PixelJunk Shooter 2</em>, Q-Games' not-yet-announced-but-very-real PSN sequel, according to a <a href="http://twitter.com/TinyManRages/status/13820165421">Tweet</a> from EIC Gary Steinman.<br />
<br />
Considering the <a bitly="BITLY_PROCESSED" href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/02/09/q-games-dylan-cuthbert-taking-aim-at-more-pixeljunk-shooter/">numerous</a> <a href="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2010/01/tobecontinuedpjs.jpg">hints</a> of a sequel, we're unsurprised that the game's existence is confirmed by an uneventful <a href="http://twitter.com/TinyManRages/status/13820165421"><em>preview</em></a> of a preview. (It seems Sony is intent on making this <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/05/07/littlebigplanet-2-revealed-in-june-game-informer/">a trend</a>.) If Sony shows this off at its E3 press conference, just try to act shocked, okay?<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/05/14/pixeljunk-shooter-2-revealed-in-july-playstation-the-official-m/">PixelJunk Shooter 2 revealed in July PlayStation: The Official Magazine</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Fri, 14 May 2010 14:00:00 EST. The tower defense title has been available digitally since <a href="http://playstation.joystiq.com/2009/09/28/pixeljunk-monsters-deluxe-invading-psp-this-week/">last fall</a>.<br />
<br />
Interestingly, Cuthbert originally <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/10/19/piracy-discourages-future-pixeljunk-psp-port-plans/">cited piracy</a> as the reason for the lack of a worldwide release for the UMD of Deluxe, previously released in Japan and elsewhere in Asia. Try not to pirate this one, so we can see more nice discs like this in the future.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/03/18/pixeljunk-monsters-deluxe-on-umd-in-north-america-this-april/">PixelJunk Monsters Deluxe on UMD in North America this April</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 18 Mar 2010 22:30:00 EST. Q-Games is teaming up with Japanese artist <a href="http://baiyon.com/english/">Baiyon</a> once again for another PSN collaboration. Baiyon, who created the visuals and sound for <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/pixeljunk-eden"><em>PixelJunk Eden</em></a> and <em>Encore</em>, is directing an interactive music visualizer for the PS3, to be distributed via the PlayStation Network.<br />
<br />
Unlike Q-Games' <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/12/26/surprise-latest-ps3-firmware-adds-sexy-spaceborne-music-visuali/">Earth visualizer</a>, this upcoming project will not be built into the PS3 operating system. Instead, this will be a standalone application, akin to <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/detuned"><em>.deTuned</em></a>. This is terrific news for Trophy hunters, as they should be familiar with how easy it is to get PSN XP with these standalone art applications.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/03/18/pixeljunk-edens-baiyon-creating-music-visualizer-for-ps3/">PixelJunk Eden's Baiyon creating music visualizer for PS3</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 18 Mar 2010 19:40:00 EST. As the first <em>PixelJunk</em> game from Q-Games, <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/pixeljunk-racers"><em>Racers</em></a> was largely misunderstood by most. Now, after the success of <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/pixeljunk-monsters"><em>Monsters</em></a>, <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/pixeljunk-eden"><em>Eden</em></a> and <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/pixeljunk-shooter"><em>Shooter</em></a>, Q-Games is ready to go back to its first concept and give it a second chance. <em>PixelJunk Racers 2nd Lap</em> isn't just an add-on to the original PSN game, but a new game (with new features like Trophies) that warrants a second look from fresh <em>PixelJunk</em> fans.<br />
<br />
Like the original, <em>2nd Lap</em> is a unique interpretation of classic top-down racers of yore. However, Q-Games' take on the genre makes it more of a puzzle or rhythm game, rather than a racing game -- an easy mistake for players to make, considering both the game's look and title. While some modes do require "winning" a race, most are about achieving rather specific goals. For example, you may need to complete a number of laps in a constantly-accelerating vehicle, while avoiding all the other cars on the road. "Sunday Drive" will have you trying to get past as many slow-driving cars as possible. It's a frustrating recreation of being stuck in traffic, yet it's oddly compelling.<br />
<br />
In its second iteration, <em>PixelJunk Racers</em> remains essentially a collection of car-themed minigames, with the ultimate goal of scoring as high as possible on the leaderboards. Thankfully, <em>2nd Lap</em> has been made considerably easier and more accessible than the first game, easing players into a much easier single-player experience. The addition of YouTube recording support should appease the show-offs, while the presence of PSN Trophies may make the overall package far more rewarding. (Don't worry Trophy hunters, Q-Games' Dylan Cuthbert told us that they've learned from <em>PixelJunk Eden</em> and <em>Monsters</em>, and will make the Trophies much easier, akin to <em>PixelJunk Shooter</em>.)<br />

While the ratings board doesn't yet offer a content description for the title, we can confidently conjecture that<em> 2nd Lap</em> <strike>changes <em>Racers</em> into a board game about managing a pretzel store</strike> includes more tracks for the four existing modes, possibly a new type of race and a few new features.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/02/19/pixeljunk-racers-2nd-lap-rated-by-esrb/">PixelJunk Racers '2nd Lap' rated by ESRB</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Fri, 19 Feb 2010 09:58:00 EST. There's no doubt about it -- Q-Games head Dylan Cuthbert is very much interested in making more content for the latest in the <em>PixelJunk</em> series of games, <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/pixeljunk-shooter">PixelJunk Shooter</a></em>. When he spoke recently to <a href="http://g4tv.com/thefeed/blog/post/702370/Reaction-Time-Q-Games-Reflects-On-Their-Latest-Downloadable-PixelJunk-Shooter.html">G4TV</a>, Cuthbert said, "for <em>PixelJunk Shooter</em> we still have a ton of ideas on the drawing board and the engine has lots of potential we want to use before moving onto our next idea." He also teased the possibility of a full-on sequel, front-loading his last statement with, "normally sequels are just a re-hashing of the ideas in the original."<br />
<br />
Given the <em>PixelJunk</em>'s all-over-the-place history with <a href="http://playstation.joystiq.com/2008/02/18/pixeljunk-monsters-expansion-pack-coming-soon/">DLC</a> and <a href="http://playstation.joystiq.com/2009/09/28/pixeljunk-monsters-deluxe-invading-psp-this-week/">re-releases</a> and <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/pixeljunk-eden-encore">Encore</a> versions, we poked Cuthbert for clarification. When we asked which of the aforementioned options we might see for <em>PixelJunk Shooter</em>, Cuthbert told us: "It hasn't been decided yet, as it depends on how much content we end up making. Whatever we end up making, though, it will be even better than the first installment with loads of new stuff. (Obviously I know what some of that stuff is, but I can't say -- all I can say is that fans will be extremely pleased.)" So, there you have it, folks! We're gonna see ... umm ... <em>something else</em> from <em>Shooter</em>.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/02/09/q-games-dylan-cuthbert-taking-aim-at-more-pixeljunk-shooter/">Q-Games' Dylan Cuthbert taking aim at more PixelJunk Shooter</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 09 Feb 2010 13:15:00 EST. Q-Games' Dylan Cuthbert doesn't like you, cheap gamer. When quizzed by <a href="http://www.develop-online.net/features/745/FAQ-Dylan-Cuthbert">Develop</a>, the <em>PixelJunk</em> creator described one thing that disappointed him most about the industry: gamers that refuse to open up their wallets. "Gamers complaining about our games being too expensive at 10 dollars. I'm not sure this is an industry problem, but it seems ridiculous that people complain about that price point." Cuthbert seems particularly sensitive about this issue, noting the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/10/19/piracy-discourages-future-pixeljunk-psp-port-plans/">rampant piracy</a> of <em>PixelJunk Monsters Deluxe</em> on PSP earlier this year.<br />
<br />
The naysayers seem few and far apart, though. <em>PixelJunk Shooter</em> went on to become the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/01/14/final-fantasy-viii-tops-psn-sales-for-december/">second best-selling game</a> on PSN in December. Some members of the Joystiq community have even <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/12/10/psn-thursday-pixeljunk-shooter-drops-into-dangerous-territory/comments/23846693/">suggested</a> the game is worth "more than $10." Obviously, the studio is doing well enough with its PSN endeavors, as Cuthbert confirms that "more <em>PixelJunk</em> is definitely in the pipeline." With <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/pixeljunk-dungeons"><em>PixelJunk Dungeons</em></a> and presumably <em>PixelJunk Shooter Encore</em> in the works, the indie studio clearly has a lot to work on at the moment.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/01/16/pixeljunk-creator-disappointed-by-cheap-gamers/">PixelJunk creator disappointed by cheap gamers</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Sat, 16 Jan 2010 08:16:00 EST. The final PSN update of 2009 is all about the sales, with PSN and <a href="http://blog.us.playstation.com/2009/12/happy-holidays-the-sega-mega-sale-for-psn-is-on/">Sega</a> DLC getting price cuts. There will be no update next week due to the holiday. Also, for all you epic space-opera shooter fans, <em>Wing Commander IV</em> is available as a PSone Classic for $6 -- the thing weighs in at 2.25GB. Check out the full PSN update after the break.<br />

We've posted it above -- as you can clearly see, it contains all of the requisite elements to fulfill the game's moniker: There's <em>pixel</em>ated enemies, a great deal of of <em>shoot</em>ing, and plenty of <em>junk</em> to aim the aforementioned <em>shoot</em>ing at.<br />
<br />
The blog post also contained good news for thrifty fans of the franchise -- on Dec. 22, Q-Games will bundle <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/pixeljunk-eden"><em>PixelJunk Eden</em></a>, <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/pixeljunk-monsters"><em>Monsters</em></a> and <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/pixeljunk-racers"><em>Racers</em></a> together into a single $19.99 bundle. Sounds like a pretty sweet package if you're hoping to receive a new PS3 from ol' Saint Nick this holiday season.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/12/09/first-three-pixeljunk-titles-bundled-for-20-shooter-gets-a-new/">First three PixelJunk titles bundled for $20, Shooter gets a new trailer</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 09 Dec 2009 16:45:00 EST. Q-Games' latest entry in its PSN <em>PixelJunk</em> series will arrive on PlayStation Network <a href="http://blog.us.playstation.com/2009/12/tis-the-pixeljunk-season/">worldwide</a> next Thursday, December 10. <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/pixeljunk-shooter"><em>Shooter</em></a> follows the legacy of previous <em>PixelJunk</em> games, by adding a modern twist to old-school gameplay. Q-Games president Dylan Cuthbert has suggested that rampant piracy of his studio's optimized PSP port, <em>PixelJunk Monsters Deluxe</em> <em>(PJMD),</em> has deterred its plans for further PSP development. "I don't think we'll port anything else to the PSP, we have to see how <em>PJMD</em> does as there's a *lot* of piracy," Cuthbert <a href="http://twitter.com/dylancuthbert/status/4956657763">tweeted</a> over the weekend. Perhaps constrained by <a href="http://twitter.zendesk.com/forums/10711/entries/13920">character limitations</a> or simply caught up in another <a href="http://twitter.com/dylancuthbert/status/4968517687"><em>Uncharted 2</em> sesh</a>, Cuthbert did not cite piracy estimates -- nor sales figures, for that matter. He did, however, confirm a demo is in the works; "but I don't think it makes any difference to piracy," Cuthbert lamented.<br /><br />Cuthbert <a href="http://twitter.com/dylancuthbert/status/4957122302">added</a> in a follow-up tweet, "<span class="status-body"><span class="entry-content">because <em>Monsters</em> is such a good fit it is being pirated I think," and then he <a href="http://twitter.com/dylancuthbert/status/4958072143">responded</a> to a suggestion to incorporate anti-piracy measures into the game code with: "unfortunately the pirates could just hack those kinds of things out." </span></span>While the PSP Go has yet to be fully <em>unlocked</em> by would-be pirates and download-only PSN titles seem to be well protected from piracy, <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/pixeljunk-monsters-deluxe/"><em>PJMD</em></a> is available on UMD (in Japan and the greater Asia region), which has no doubt lead to the distribution of pirated versions of the game.<br /><br />While it's somewhat naive of Q-Games to <em>not</em> have anticipated a piracy issue, it's no less disheartening. The PSP has long suffered from a lack of consistent third-party support because of a history of sales losses due to piracy. Q-Games is just the latest developer hesitant to commit further resources to supporting the PSP platform, and without the release of an <em>impossibility firm</em> firmware, it won't be the last.<br /><br /><strong>Update:</strong> Cuthbert <a href="http://twitter.com/dylancuthbert/statuses/5018410323">reemphasizes</a> that <em>PJMD</em> sales will be the key determining factor that drives Q-Games' future in PSP development. Cuthbert's studio has not definitely dropped PSP development, but ostensibly low sales over the first three weeks of <em>PJMD</em> availability have Q-Games in some doubt about pursuing further PSP projects. Of course, a sales spike could certainly change that attitude.<br /><br />[Via <a href="http://www.examiner.com/examiner/x-6894-SF-Console-Game-Examiner~y2009m10d19-Piracy-hurting-PixelJunk-Monsters-Deluxe">Examiner</a>; thanks, Marcus N.]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/10/19/piracy-discourages-future-pixeljunk-psp-port-plans/">Piracy discourages future PixelJunk PSP port plans</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Mon, 19 Oct 2009 21:00:00 EST. Recent connection issues have marred European <em><a href="http://playstation.joystiq.com/tag/PixelJunk-Monsters-Deluxe/">PixelJunk Monsters Deluxe</a></em> owners from participating in rousing online games against North American and Asian players. Thankfully, the <a href="http://blog.eu.playstation.com/2009/10/16/pixeljunk-monsters-deluxe-online-compatibility-problem-fixed/">PlayStation Blog</a> has released a two-part DIY guide to help fix the PSP game's issues. The process is simple:<br />
<ol>
    <li>Delete your game through the PSP Home Menu (select Game&gt;Memory Stick&gt;press the triangle button with <em>PixelJunk Monsters Deluxe</em> highlighted and select Delete).</li>
    <li> Connect to PlayStation Store &gt; Select View Downloads and re-download <em>PixelJunk Monsters Deluxe</em> from the Download List.</li>
</ol>
Users will still retain their previous progress and now (hopefully) be completely problem free in their quest for online <em>Deluxe</em> dominance.<br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/pixeljunk-monsters-deluxe/">PixelJunk Monsters Deluxe</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/pixeljunk-monsters-deluxe/#2056032"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2009/06/title_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/pixeljunk-monsters-deluxe/#2056031"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2009/06/special_3_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/pixeljunk-monsters-deluxe/#2056030"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2009/06/medium_2_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/pixeljunk-monsters-deluxe/#2056029"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2009/06/island_select_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/pixeljunk-monsters-deluxe/#2056028"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2009/06/hard_1_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/10/17/pixeljunk-monsters-deluxe-gets-diy-compatibility-fix/">PixelJunk Monsters Deluxe gets DIY compatibility fix</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Sat, 17 Oct 2009 17:00:00 EST. Though technically tinier in stature, the game offers all the strategic defending of the PS3 version of the title, while adding a new island, new monsters and even a few new towers into the mix. The game also gets a few multiplayer options, including a local four-player cooperative mode and an eight-player online competitive mode.<br /> <br /> We've yet to confirm a price for the title, which will presumably appear in this week's PSN Thursday update, but we've contacted Q-Games to try to find out ahead of time.<br /> <div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/pixeljunk-monsters-deluxe/">PixelJunk Monsters Deluxe</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/pixeljunk-monsters-deluxe/#2056032"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2009/06/title_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/pixeljunk-monsters-deluxe/#2056031"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2009/06/special_3_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/pixeljunk-monsters-deluxe/#2056030"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2009/06/medium_2_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/pixeljunk-monsters-deluxe/#2056029"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2009/06/island_select_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/pixeljunk-monsters-deluxe/#2056028"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2009/06/hard_1_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/09/28/pixeljunk-monsters-deluxe-invading-psp-this-week/">PixelJunk Monsters Deluxe invading PSP this week</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Mon, 28 Sep 2009 13:44:00 EST. Let's be honest: this shirt isn't all too cool. That's a shame, considering we love our <em>PixelJunk</em>, and would love to wear some tees showing off our fandom. This rather uninspired shirt is from premium t-shirt maker The King of Games, and will cost a premium price: 3800円 (about $40). Considering the stylish look of all the <em>PixelJunk</em> games so far, we have to admit we're disappointed by this offering. Thankfully, an equally priced <em>PixelJunk Eden Encore</em> t-shirt is a bit more eye catching.<br /><br />[Via <a href="http://www.destructoid.com/the-king-of-games-unveils-sexy-pixeljunk-t-shirts-137457.phtml">Destructoid</a>]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/06/27/show-off-your-pixeljunk-with-boring-expensive-tees/">Show off your PixelJunk with boring, expensive tees</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Sat, 27 Jun 2009 10:45:00 EST. Right about now you're probably thinking, "Cool, a compilation of the first four <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/pixeljunk"><em>PixelJunk</em></a> games!" followed by, "Wait a second ... there have only been <em>three PixelJunk games</em>." This is true. As you can no doubt tell from the above screenshot, <em>PixelJunk 1-4 </em>is an entirely new downloadable PS3 title from Kyoto-based <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/q-games">Q-Games</a>. It just doesn't have a final name yet.<br /><br />We can think of some adjectives to describe this summer release based on our first hands-on. "Fun" comes to mind, as does "simple." Two staples of the <em>PixelJunk </em>franchise, when you think about it. Oh, and "really cool fluid dynamics." <em>Wassat</em>? Let us explain after the break.<br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/pixeljunk-1-4/">PixelJunk 1-4</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/pixeljunk-1-4/#1525087"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2009/04/pj1-4_002-4292009-2_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/pixeljunk-1-4/#1525088"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2009/04/pj1-4_004-4292009-1_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/pixeljunk-1-4/#1525089"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2009/04/pj1-4_006-4292009-4_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/pixeljunk-1-4/#1525090"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2009/04/pj1-4_008-4292009-5_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/pixeljunk-1-4/#1525091"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2009/04/pj1-4_010-4292009-3_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/04/29/joystiq-hands-on-pixeljunk-1-4/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Joystiq hands-on: PixelJunk 1-4</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/04/29/joystiq-hands-on-pixeljunk-1-4/">Joystiq hands-on: PixelJunk 1-4</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 29 Apr 2009 12:15:00 EST. The next game in the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/pixeljunk"><em>PixelJunk</em></a> series is looking to potentially be the best yet, though it is lacking something. A <em>name</em>. Since it was announced, the game has been referred to simply as <em>PixelJunk 1-4</em> -- the fourth game in the first series. The assumption was that the name was such a giveaway to the game's style and / or gameplay that it was being kept under wraps. Now it turns out that Q-Games just hasn't decided on one yet. In fact, they're leaving it up to you.<br /><br />Check out the <a href="http://pixeljunk.jp/namingcontest/">official naming contest website</a> for some inspiration in the form of not only full screenshots of the game, but also a video of it in action (also seen above). You have until May 11 to submit your name idea on the website and the winner will not only have the satisfaction of knowing that they named the game, but they will also be featured in the game's credits and, along with five runners up, receive a <em>PixelJunk _____</em> t-shirt.<br /><br />Judging by the previous <em>PixelJunk</em> titles, the name will need to be short and snappy, yet encapsulate the style of the game. Not an easy job. Be sure to check back here at noon EST for even <em>more</em> inspiration in the form of our hands-on impressions of the game. Good luck to all who enter!<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/04/29/only-you-can-name-pixeljunk-1-4/">Only you can name PixelJunk 1-4</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 29 Apr 2009 08:00:00 EST. We're approaching the end of what could ostensibly be called "Early 2009," the <a href="http://playstation.joystiq.com/2009/01/13/new-pixeljunk-in-early-2009-dungeons-coming-later/">tentative launch window</a> for the fourth installment in Q-Games' aesthetically pleasing <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/PixelJunk/">PixelJunk</a></em> series, and details about said installment are slim. However, we were recently enlightened to the identity of the upcoming title -- albeit from an unconventional source. A <a href="http://www.facebook.com/pages/PixelJunk-1-4/71138519162#/pages/PixelJunk-1-4/71138519162">recently added Facebook fan page</a> allows you to throw your digital endorsement behind <em>PixelJunk 1-4</em>, which has yet to receive a catchier title.<br /><br />The page includes <a href="http://www.facebook.com/event.php?eid=74041443877&amp;ref=mf">a link to an event</a> titled "PixelJunk 1-4 sells one million units at launch," as well as a few hilariously tiny pieces of artwork from the title, which Q-Games president Dylan Cuthbert promises to release more of as the group's membership grows. No details about the gameplay, release date or explanations of the curious moniker are included on the fan page, but now that the <em>Pixel</em>-ated cat's out of the bag, we expect to hear more soon. <br /><br />

The upcoming <span style="font-style: italic;">Encore</span> expansion to <span style="font-style: italic;">PixelJunk Eden</span> looks to be quite massive ... and quite fun. The Trophy list has been updated for the upcoming add-on, and the 11 new Trophies reveal some new details about the devilish new levels being added to the game. One Trophy requires a death-defying jump to get two Spectra in one go, while another asks players to open ten seeds without ever touching a plant. Ouch! We can't wait to see the new content <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/03/27/pixeljunk-eden-encore-gets-five-new-levels-for-5-99/">later this month</a>.<br /><br />See the additional Trophies after the break.<br /><br />[Thanks to everyone that sent this in!]<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/04/06/pixeljunk-eden-encore-adds-11-new-trophies/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>PixelJunk Eden Encore adds 11 new Trophies</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/04/06/pixeljunk-eden-encore-adds-11-new-trophies/">PixelJunk Eden Encore adds 11 new Trophies</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Mon, 06 Apr 2009 10:30:00 EST. The upcoming <em>Encore</em> expansion for <em>PixelJunk Eden</em> will feature 5 brand new levels for fans to explore. These additional levels feature brand new gameplay mechanics, like an item that enables zero-G flotation. Another level features two "mirror" levels that you can teleport between and that will undoubtedly hide some devilish puzzles.<br /><br />The expansion will be available in just a few weeks and will cost $5.99 on the PlayStation Store. Deal? We think so.<br />
<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/03/27/pixeljunk-eden-encore-gets-five-new-levels-for-5-99/">PixelJunk Eden Encore gets five new levels for $5.99</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Fri, 27 Mar 2009 11:11:00 EST. You might not have the free time to make a trip to Japan and visit the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/pixeljunk"><span style="font-style: italic;">PixelJunk</span></a> overlords at Q-Games' Kyoto office, but you can do the next best thing: take a guided video tour with Dylan Cuthbert. In the video posted after the break, Q-Games president Dylan Cuthbert shows us all around the dev studio, meeting the people behind the games and explaining why they all work barefoot (or in slippers -- they have a choice!). <br /><br />With that in mind, Q-Games seems to have a rather quiet and relaxing work atmosphere. It could use a little spice, though, say, giant <span style="font-style: italic;">PixelJunk Monster </span>statues at the entrance or <span style="font-style: italic;">Eden</span> flower pots by the windows. Maybe they'll have those installed before the next tour.<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/03/26/go-behind-the-scenes-at-q-games-kyoto-office/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Go behind the scenes at Q-Games' Kyoto office</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/03/26/go-behind-the-scenes-at-q-games-kyoto-office/">Go behind the scenes at Q-Games' Kyoto office</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 26 Mar 2009 22:30:00 EST. Publishers looking for a quick buck don't need to focus their efforts solely on the iPhone. Sony's Susan Panico touted the values of PSN development by providing a case study on <em>PixelJunk Eden</em>, Q-Games' third PSN-exclusive title. Panico told the GamesBeat audience that "<em>PixelJunk Eden</em> made its return on investment within 24 hours." Sales after that period become pure profit.<br /><br />Of course, the success of <em>Eden</em> is a little unsurprising, considering the popularity of <em>PixelJunk Monsters</em>. Regardless, it's impressive that a small independent studio was able to create a trusted franchise exclusively through the PlayStation Network. With so much green made off of <em>Eden</em>, it's no wonder Q-Games is working on an expansion for the game. <em>Eden Encore</em> will be available <a href="http://playstation.joystiq.com/2009/03/20/pixeljunk-eden-encore-coming-in-april/">in April</a>.<br />
<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/03/24/gdc09-pixeljunk-eden-profitable-after-one-day-of-sales/">GDC09: PixelJunk Eden profitable after one day of sales</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 24 Mar 2009 15:22:00 EST. Are you ready for more <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/pixeljunk-eden"><em>Eden</em></a>? The upcoming <em>PixelJunk</em> expansion is expected to release in April, and will include even more of the gravity-defying levels we've come to love. "Get ready for zero gravity, mirror worlds," Dylan Cuthbert explains on the <a href="http://blog.us.playstation.com/2009/03/20/all-busy-on-the-pixeljunk-front/">PlayStation.Blog</a>. In addition, <em>Eden</em> will feature "something extra special at the end which is a Big Secret(tm) and is a present to all the fans."<br /><br />No new details on the next new <em>PixelJunk</em> game were released, but we're certain another trip to <em>Eden</em> will keep us occupied for quite some time.<br />
<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/03/20/pixeljunk-eden-encore-coming-in-april/">PixelJunk Eden Encore coming in April</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Fri, 20 Mar 2009 16:45:00 EST. One of the PS3 highlights of last year's GDC for PS3 was the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/02/19/q-games-reveals-pixeljunk-eden-hints-at-future-titles/">unveiling</a> of the third <em>PixelJunk</em> title, <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/pixeljunk-eden"><em>PixelJunk Eden</em></a>, during Dylan Cuthbert's post-mortem of the first two games in the series. This year Cuthbert is set to return and unveil the latest <em>PixelJunk</em> project, according to a press invitation to the PlayStation Blog Lounge. Not only that but there will be hands-on time for those who attend.<br /><br />We know that the fourth game in the series <a href="http://playstation.joystiq.com/2009/01/13/new-pixeljunk-in-early-2009-dungeons-coming-later/">won't be <em>PixelJunk Dungeons</em></a>, which was also vaguely mentioned back at GDC 2008, as it requires more development time. At this point we really have no idea what <em>PixelJunk 4</em> could be but, after our experiences with <em>Monsters </em>and <em>Eden</em>, we can't wait to find out next Thursday.<br /><br /><strong>[UPDATE]</strong> Dylan Cuthbert has let the cat out of the bag via <a href="http://twitter.com/dylancuthbert/status/1353250381">his Twitter feed</a>. <em>PixelJunk 4</em> will not be shown at GDC next week, instead we'll get the first look on the expansion for the third game in the series, <em>PixelJunk Eden Encore</em>.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/03/18/new-pixeljunk-to-be-revealed-playable-at-gdc/">PixelJunk Eden Encore to be revealed, playable at GDC [update]</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 18 Mar 2009 22:05:00 EST. The <a href="http://joystiq.com/tag/psn">PSN</a> PixelJunk series will be bundled in the <em>PixelJunk 3in1 Pack</em> for the Asian market, reports <a href="http://www.siliconera.com/2009/03/02/pixeljunk-3in1-pack-racing-to-retail-in-march/">Siliconera</a>. The bundle will include <em>Racers, Monsters</em> and <em>Eden</em>. All games have English or Japanese language options, but there's no word yet if the disc includes the <em>Monsters</em> expansion or the <em>Eden</em> soundtrack.<br /><br />Although we've yet to hear back from Sony Europe, Sony America let us know that it has no "official announcements at this time about the PixelJunk series." If the region didn't deserve a hard copy for <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/08/13/siren-blood-curse-has-no-na-blu-ray-plans/"><em>Siren: Blood Curse</em>'s 9 gigglebytes</a>, what chance does <em>PixelJunk</em> have? Ending on a good note: at least PS3 games aren't region locked.<br /><br />[<strong>Update</strong>: Q Games president Dylan Cuthbert confirmed to Joystiq that this <em>PixelJunk</em> pack is Asia-only. "Right now, this special bundle is for Asia only."]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/03/03/pixeljunk-packed-3-in-1-trunk-for-asia/">PixelJunk packed 3-in-1 trunk for Asia</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 03 Mar 2009 15:30:00 EST. <div align="left">Despite being originally planned for release in Europe and Japan simultaneously, the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/pixeljunk-eden"><em>PixelJunk Eden</em></a> "wah, it's too hard" patch is still not out in PAL regions. The <a href="http://pixeljunk.jp//library/Eden/">official <em>PixelJunk</em> website</a> has now been updated to reflect the fact that, finally, the patch will see release in Europe on January 29. <br /><br />The patch adds various features to the game which makes it a little bit less challenging, such as an entirely new control system, more time and a continue system. There's also a much-improved multiplayer camera, making playing with friends far less frustrating. Barring accidents, Europeans will be able to give it a try themselves tomorrow. We'll let you know once it's live.<br /><br />[Thanks, Gerard@]</div>

People just can't get enough <em>PixelJunk Monsters</em>. PS3 fans fell in love with this charming tower defense game, leading to the release of the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/05/06/pixeljunk-monsters-encore-expansion-hits-this-week/"><em>Encore</em> expansion</a> pack and subsequent <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/10/23/trophies-pixeljunk-monsters/">Trophy patch</a>. PSP owners are in for a treat as they'll be receiving their own version of the game <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/12/19/pixeljunk-monsters-coming-to-psp/">later this year</a>.<br /><br />What will <em>Monsters</em> PSP feature? We're expecting the same content featured in the PS3 games, but Dylan Cuthbert promises there will be even more stuff in the PSP game. In an interview with <a href="http://coregamer.web.simplesnet.pt/edencuthberteng.htm">Core Gamers</a>, he reveals the team is currently "adding 50% more content or more" to the game. Those that have played both <em>Monsters</em> and <em>Encore</em> know well that this is a massive amount of content. How will we possibly get rainbows on all of these levels?<br /><br />When asked if <em>PixelJunk Eden</em>, the third of Q-Games' downloadable games on PS3, would also receive PSP treatment, Cuthbert seemed doubtful. <em>Eden</em> is a far more complex, processor-intense game. "Never say never of course, but it would be quite a challenge and a number of things might have to be changed."<br /><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/01/28/psp-version-of-pixeljunk-monsters-features-50-more-content/">PSP version of PixelJunk Monsters features 50% more content</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 28 Jan 2009 13:27:00 EST.
