A game unlike anything you've ever seen. Prepare yourself ... for CUBE!"

The still nascent Krew Studios isn't doing much to distinguish itself from the developer of the fictional CUBE, if you ask us. This week, the studio announced intentions to create an Xbox 360 title for release this year, currently named "Project Orb," and frankly, we can't help but draw comparisons to the faux game trailer of yore.

For starters, we don't know a damn thing about Project Orb, other than some unbelievably ambiguous screens and a mention in the company's announce PR that the project "will indeed be a music title."

That's not exactly surprising, given the pedigree behind Krew Studios -- co-founder Michael Yum was an executive producer at PM Studios, whose last project was DJ Max Fever. Even more importantly, however, is the other half of that duo: famed music industry exec Clarence Avant.

"Clarence and I really wanted to start with something that could revolutionize the music industry as well as help rebuild a market that was considered sinking as of late 2010," Yum notes in the announcement. We'll get our first chance to see exactly what Yum means in the not so distant future it seems, as he also said that "further announcements will be made shortly." For now, gaze upon the orbs above and below ... if you dare.

Gallery: Project Orb

Continue reading Krew Studios' 'Project Orb' is as close to CUBE as we're going to get

Krew Studios' 'Project Orb' is as close to CUBE as we're going to get originally appeared on Joystiq on Wed, 15 Feb 2012 17:00:00 EST. If you've ever found yourself in the proverbial club (perhaps with a bottle full of bub), then you may be familiar with Pentavision's DJ Max -- a Beatmania-like music-rhythm series with some of the most intense gameplay in the genre. Today, PM Studios has announced it will publish DJ Max Portable 3 in the US.

PM Studios promises "more than 50 songs, unique modes, customizable options, and a yet to be announced new feature." The game is set to launch sometime in 2010 on UMD and as a download on PSN.
DJ Max Portable 3 coming to PSP in 2010 originally appeared on Joystiq on Tue, 25 May 2010 15:45:00 EST. Strikers 1945, a classic vertical scrolling shoot 'em up, is coming to PSP exclusively through the PlayStation Network. Originally released in 1995, Strikers 1945 Plus for PSP will feature new graphics and a brand new "Endless" mode. PM Studios, publisher of DJ Max Fever, is planning on releasing the PSN game in July for $11.99. The odds of DJ Max Fever becoming a runaway success are slim. In spite of an obvious uphill battle, Michael Yum and the rest of the PM Studios gang are trying their best to get the Korean music game to the hardcore masses of PSP owners. The upcoming US version of the notoriously difficult music game won't get a gimped localized soundtrack, which will certain lessen its mainstream appeal. "We pretty much knew we were going exclusively for the hardcore gamers," Yum told The Escapist.

However, Yum notes that their best bet comes with the hardcore market. "In the US, active PSP owners are the hardcore gamers. There aren't many casual-oriented PSP titles, you know? We didn't think we were going to attract the casual audiences the first time anyway."

Thankfully, there's some hope for DJ Max Fever, as Sony has offered the team their "full support" in promoting the game. "Just earlier this week, Sony offered us full support for the title. They want to push specific games that they see as key titles ... They also want to put our game on the billboards and in the commercials, so yeah, hopefully you'll be seeing a lot more of DJ Max Fever with Sony backing it up." While PSP Fanboy readers are most likely familiar with the game, Yum and the rest of the DJ Max team will need all the help they can get -- Sony's vote of confidence doesn't guarantee them success, but it certainly evens the odds just a litlte bit.
Sony to offer 'full support' for DJ Max Fever originally appeared on Joystiq on Wed, 10 Dec 2008 01:02:00 EST. "American arcades?" Really? Do they still exist? The good ol' days of coin operated machines seemed long gone, but maybe things are changing. Tekken 6 and Street Fighter IV have enticed gamers to go to the few arcades remaining in the US. PM Studios is joining the movement by bringing popular Korean arcade game, DJ Max Technika, to the States this December.

Technika is a continuation of the Beatmania-style music game. Unlike previous DJ Max games, Technika utilizes a touch screen. Players must tap the screen as notes go across a blue line. As usual, Technika will feature full-motion video in the background and music from popular Korean musicians, like Clazziquai, 015B, BJJ, Sugar Donut, Garion, Humming Urban Stereo, Yozoh, and more.

Like many Japanese and Korean arcade cabinets, Technika will also be equipped with internet connectivity, to provide global leaderboards and updates to the game. According to IGN, the K-Pop rhythm game that was supposed to come out this November will be delayed. DJ Max Fever is now slated for first quarter 2009. It's not an entire lost, however. The extra months, says PM Studios, will give developers time to add in new gear, upgrade items, and hidden content.

They're also working on making the title "fully compatible with the PSP-3000" and "perfecting a brand new game engine that is tentatively titled 'BS'." With all "BS" jokes about the delay aside, we're interested in finding out exactly what this change is all about and see if it was worth the extra wait. After all, the wait for a DJ Max game in North America has been long enough.
DJ Max catches fever, gets delayed originally appeared on Joystiq on Tue, 04 Nov 2008 17:20:00 EST. It's undeniable that there's been a serious drought of new PSP software for the past few months. While this may be a deterrent to many publishers and developers, it's actually considered a plus for PM Studios, the publisher behind the upcoming US release of DJ Max Fever. In an interview with Siliconera, Michael Yum of PM Studios noted that "the game should be easy to find. Almost every retailer has made a commitment to the game. The drought of PSP games has really helped us, lol."

That's a great thing to hear, too. We were afraid that this import hit would fall by the wayside. Expect more on the upcoming US release of DJ Max as we get closer to its release.
