Shipment of the device has also ceased, meaning that Japan's existing stock of the retro gaming handheld/console is all they're going to get.<br /><br />It's unclear whether this development will affect the device's availability in North America or other territories, although it has been said that the end of hardware production doesn't translate to the end of software production -- more Game Cards are reportedly on the way. We've reached out for more information and will update if new information becomes available.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2013/01/23/report-neo-geo-x-production-ceases-in-japan/">Report: Neo Geo X production ceases in Japan</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 23 Jan 2013 23:30:00 EST. <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/11/20/report-casual-interest-in-portable-gaming-systems-down-29-per/" target="_self"><img alt="" src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2011/08/3ds810.jpg" style="width: 530px; height: 350px; " /></a></div>
Got your grain of salt ready? Good! Survey and statistical analysis firm Cowen and Company has published the results of a survey that suggests "casual" gamer interest in dedicated handheld gaming systems has declined by 29 percent over the last 5 years. 37 percent of people polled play games on a dedicated device, while 52 percent primarily use their phones. The study goes on to say that companies like EA, who have invested heavily in iOS and Android gaming, are better positioned for the future of the market as compared to other companies such as Nintendo.<br />
<br />
Now, these are "self-identified" casual gamers, mind you, and knowing what that means in practical terms or how it affects the results of this survey is an impossibility. It's also no big shocker that the Great Smartphone Boom of the early 21st century has had an impact on dedicated devices of all kinds, from gaming systems to navigation units to carrier pigeons.<br />
<br />
Seriously, our carrier pigeon side-business is really, really tanking. This may not have been the smartest investment we could have made.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/11/20/report-casual-interest-in-portable-gaming-systems-down-29-per/">Report: 'Casual' interest in portable gaming systems down 29 percent</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Sun, 20 Nov 2011 11:30:00 EST. 	<a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/05/30/handheld-dreamcast-systems-go-on-sale-in-japan/"><img border="1" hspace="0" src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2011/05/dreamcast530.jpg" vspace="0" /></a></center>
Under most circumstances, our answer to the question "Should I buy a Dreamcast" is <em>yes</em>. If you don't have a Dreamcast, you should buy a Dreamcast. If you already have a Dreamcast, what if your Dreamcast breaks? What would you do then? Not play <em>Plasma Sword</em>, that's what.<br />
<br />
But when that Dreamcast costs &yen;38,000 ($469), we must be more reserved with our recommendations. That's the price <a href="http://pachimon.tv/goods.php?code=438310&amp;menu=&amp;kind=NEW&amp;keyword=&amp;shop_id=aqsASsrSx">PachimonTV</a> gives to this handmade portable Dreamcast unit, shipping next month in Japan. We'll leave it to you to decide whether or not that's a fair price for the ability to play <em>Shenmue</em> on the go.<br />
<br />
At the very least, it's a more elegant portable Dreamcast solution than the infamous <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Treamcast">Treamcast</a>.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/05/30/handheld-dreamcast-systems-go-on-sale-in-japan/">Handheld Dreamcast systems go on sale in Japan</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Mon, 30 May 2011 20:16:00 EST. Hyperkin, who sells third-party gaming accessories and various retro game devices (like the <a href="http://hyperkin.com/index.php/retro-system-retron3.html/?SID=e6fde56f1fd5b68c3fc5bac00c27535a">RetroN3</a>, a combination NES/SNES/Genesis) <a href="http://twitter.com/HyperKin/status/51782262118825984">announced</a> its next product at the Midwest Gaming Classic last month: the SupaBoy, a portable SNES console that works with real SNES cartridges. It's shaped like a controller, but it also has two controller ports, so you can play while you play.<br />
<br />
According to <a href="http://www.computerandvideogames.com/297767/news/snes-handheld-console-coming-this-year/?cid=OTC-RSS&amp;attr=CVG-General-RSS">CVG's</a> report on the device, it has a 3.5" screen, a rechargeable battery that runs for about five-and-a-half hours, and AV out for use on <em>real TVs</em>. It's due for launch in America this summer. It might look a bit silly with the huge cartridge sticking out, but Sega got away with <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sega_Nomad">pretty much the same thing</a>. Though the handful of promotional videos for Sony's NGP have featured footage of a handheld version of Media Molecule's latest, <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/littlebigplanet-2"><em>LittleBigPlanet 2</em></a>, the game's developer and publisher have remained mum about the series' next on-the-go installment. However, a recent <a href="http://www.mediamolecule.com/jobs/graphics_programmer/">hiring notice</a> on the studio's front page gives us hope: The Guildford-based outfit is currently looking for a graphics programmer to work on a new title, which will land "on a portable platform."<br />
<br />
It wouldn't be the first time the handcrafted platformer made its way to a handheld -- that would be SCE Cambridge Studio's <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/11/17/review-littlebigplanet-psp/"><em>LBP</em> for PSP</a> -- but the possibility of a totally in-house iteration of the franchise on Sony's next portable is enough to send shivers of excitment coursing through our entire body. We've contacted Media Molecule for a comment!<br />
<br />
<strong>Update</strong>: Media Molecule co-founder Alex Evans responded, saying,"Well spotted! However, at the moment I'm afraid we've got nothing to announce regarding any projects... sorry. We'll have to leave the world speculating a little longer..."<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/02/28/media-molecule-hiring-programmer-for-portable-platform/">Media Molecule hiring programmer for 'portable platform' [update]</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Mon, 28 Feb 2011 11:30:00 EST. What happened since 2005? Oh, right, the PSP and DS Lite. And the iPhone, for that matter. Just eight percent?<br />
<br />
According to the report, more kids own portable game systems than other types of devices. In addition, NPD noted that many of these handhelds were acquired used, with more kids receiving used game systems in 2009 than in 2008. <br />
<br />
"Kids ages 14 and under were the primary recipient of 37 percent of hardware unit sales for the 12 months ending March 2010," NPD analyst Anita Frazier told <a href="http://www.industrygamers.com/news/portable-gaming-on-the-rise-among-kids-says-npd/">IndustryGamers</a>, also noting that the amount of kid-targeted digital content being downloaded is on the rise, suggesting that kids are open to the transition to digital distribution.<br />

We've showcased <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/09/16/darth-64-shows-the-appeal-of-the-dark-side/">quite</a> <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/01/15/portable-gamecube-needs-more-work-shows-promise/">a</a> <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/01/07/because-playing-shadows-of-the-empire-on-the-go-is-a-necessity/">few</a> portable N64 creations on this here corner of the internet, but the "<a href="http://forums.modretro.com/viewtopic.php?f=33&amp;t=1870">64 Boy</a>" (pictured above) may very well be the most compact mod we've seen yet -- the world's smallest, according to its maker.<br />
<br />
The handheld also features support for connecting up to 4 controllers, in case you're jonesing for some <em>GoldenEye</em> multiplayer on the road and don't mind squinting. The development process is detailed in <a href="http://forums.modretro.com/viewtopic.php?f=5&amp;t=2680">this thread</a>, and past the break, we've included a video documenting the creation of the 64 Boy.<br />

If you're looking to take your god-slaying, tiny planet-creating, Blu-ray-watching console on the go, but lack the fungible assets required to purchase <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/01/03/ben-hecks-ps3-slim-laptop-going-for-broke-on-ebay/">one of Ben Heck's laptops</a>, Japanese electronics manufacturer Hori may have another solution for you. The company recently <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2010/04/06/ps3-meets-hori-lcd-dock-good-things-happen/">unveiled the HP3-87 LCD dock</a>, a Sony-licensed peripheral which attaches a slick 1,366 x 768 pixel screen and stereo speakers to your PS3 Slim.<br />
<br />
The device, which is also compatible with the successful <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/torne">Torne DVR peripheral</a>, will come out in Japan on May 27 for &yen;26,040 ($276). We haven't heard anything about plans for an international release -- not that we'd be psyched to plop a burning hot PS3 on our lap during our morning commute.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/04/06/hori-makes-lcd-screen-for-portable-ps3-experience/">Hori makes LCD screen for portable PS3 experience</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 06 Apr 2010 12:00:00 EST. Your teenage daughter and/or son aren't kidding around when they say you just don't get it. You really don't. You're not a teenager. You don't know everything like they do. And one of the things they know is that video games are <em>the bomb</em>. The kids still say that, right? <br />
<br />
Anyway, according to a recent Pew Internet &amp; American Life Project <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/study">study</a> (via <a href="http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/35206710/ns/technology_and_science-tech_and_gadgets/">MSNBC</a>), 80 percent of teenagers between the ages of 12 and 17 own a gaming console and that around 51 percent of those in the same age group own a portable gaming device. "While younger and older teens are equally likely to have a game console, boys are more likely than girls to have one," the study reads, pointing out that 89 percent of boys have a gaming console compared to 70 percent of girls.<br />
<br />
The study itself focuses mostly on the internet and how the young are connecting (hint: they like laptops and -- wait, MySpace?), but it's a good read if you're looking to get in touch with the youngsters. <br />

Before you start wondering: No, we don't post about <a href="http://nintendo.joystiq.com/2008/12/29/nintendo-sixtyfree-lite-r-might-be-the-perfect-handheld/"><em>every</em> <em>single</em> portable Nintendo 64</a> that slides across our tip box -- rather, we only spend our time writing about the ones that are so much cooler than their predecessors. We were pleased to find that one such project <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2010/01/25/hailrazers-kamikaze-64-is-the-most-polished-portable-n64-yet-v/">was recently highlighted by Engadget</a>: The Kamikaze 64, which is demoed in a video after the jump.<br />
<br />
The device, which was commissioned by an unnamed party for an unspecified amount of cash, isn't the <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2009/12/07/n64mini-makes-claim-to-worlds-smallest-portable-n64-is-still/">smallest handheld N64</a> we've ever seen. However, with a crisp screen, support for a second controller, video output, a headphone jack and a Controller Pak slot, it might just be the most comprehensive stab anyone's ever taken at miniaturizing the console. We'll take four, thanks.<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/01/25/introducing-the-new-king-of-modded-handheld-nintendo-64s/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Introducing the new king of modded handheld Nintendo 64s</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/01/25/introducing-the-new-king-of-modded-handheld-nintendo-64s/">Introducing the new king of modded handheld Nintendo 64s</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Mon, 25 Jan 2010 22:00:00 EST. If you're an extremely nomadic gamer with <em>a couple of grands</em> in the bank to spare, you might be interested to learn that <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/ben-heck">Ben Heck's</a> ultra slick PS3 Slim laptop is <a href="http://cgi.ebay.com/PlayStation-3-Slim-Ben-Heck-Laptop_W0QQitemZ330391804986QQcmdZViewItemQQptZVideo_Games?hash=item4cece2dc3a">now up for grabs on eBay</a>. As you might remember, the portable-ized device was originally purchased by gaming retailer The Score, then <a href="http://playstation.joystiq.com/2009/10/06/ben-hecks-ps3-laptop-getting-raffled-off-by-tennessee-retailer/">raffled off to one of the shop's customers</a>. Now that customer is selling it on eBay. We certainly hope that, at some point, somebody will <em>play the damn thing</em>. Please, if you've got the extra $2,000, won't you give this poor creature a permanent, loving home?<br />

Though it's certainly not the sleekest handheld device we've ever seen -- in fact, it might be in the running for the <em>unsleekest</em> device ever created -- the latest project from <a href="http://forums.benheck.com/viewtopic.php?f=18&amp;t=35615">a modder, nicknamed Techknott</a>, boasts some pretty impressive capabilities. Basically, the handheld sends control signals to a PS3, which transmits video signals back to the device, allowing for nomadic sessions of <em>Modern Warfare 2</em> (or any other PS3 game), as seen in the video after the jump.<br />
<br />
According to the <a href="http://forums.benheck.com/viewtopic.php?f=18&amp;t=35615">modder's post on BenHeck.com</a>, the device will soon be available for purchase. Though the Zune HD-owning community (whose names are Michael, Alan and Michelle) are <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/11/11/audiosurf-pgr-and-other-games-added-to-zune-hd-with-latest-upda/">now able to play</a> the entrancing <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/audiosurf"><em>Audiosurf: Tilt</em></a> on their beloved media device, iPhone and iPod Touch owners are still forced to go without. Many were hopeful that the iPhone Firmware Update 3.0, which opened up the device's music library to third-party developers, would allow the game's creator, Dylan Fitterer, to bring the game to the popular media player. Unfortunately, in a brief interview with <a href="http://www.charge-shot.com/2009/11/you-can-play-audiosurf-on-your-zune-if.html">gaming news site Charge Shot</a>, Fitterer explained that the update "didn't bring enough access."<br />
<br />
We contacted Fitterer to find out exactly what he meant by this -- he explained, "Apps can play songs, but they can't get at a song's bits (needed to analyze it and build a matching rollercoaster + traffic pattern)." He added that there were workarounds -- for instance, a player could upload a song to the App or through a central server, which would create a level for them. However, he said that system felt inconvenient, and that he doesn't "want to put <em>Audiosurf </em>on iPhone until it can really let you ride your music - all of it."<br />
<br />
There's still a chance the game could end up on an Apple product -- though Fitterer negotiated directly with Microsoft to get his game on the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/zune-hd">Zune HD</a> platform, the two parties came to no form of exclusivity agreement. "I'm ready for Apple to call," Fitterer joked.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/11/13/iphone-version-of-audiosurf-put-on-hold-due-to-music-library-r/">iPhone version of Audiosurf put 'on hold' due to music library restrictions</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Fri, 13 Nov 2009 00:29:00 EST. The disc drive out back may be a bit precariously placed, but 'Hailrazer"'s portable "NCube" reeks of everything we'd want in a handheld version of the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/gamecube">last-gen Nintendo console</a> (except for wireless multiplayer, of course). <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2009/11/09/the-ncube-probably-the-best-portable-gamecube-of-all-time/">Engadget</a> spotted the 90-hour-in-the-making portable GameCube over on - surprise, surprise! - the <a href="http://forums.benheck.com/viewtopic.php?f=18&amp;t=34490">Ben Heck forums</a>. <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2009/09/17/zune-hd-review/">Most of the reviews</a> of Microsoft's new portable media device, the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/zune-hd">Zune HD</a>, have been positive -- though from a gaming perspective, one "feature" of the new hardware has drawn the ire of gadgeteers. When booting up one of the free game apps, potential players are forced to view interstitial advertisements of varying lengths. <a href="http://arstechnica.com/microsoft/news/2009/09/zune-hd-apps-are-here-complete-with-pre-roll-ads.ars">Ars Technica measured the time</a> it took to boot up these games -- the "Goo Splat" game features a static advertisement for the Kia Soul, and takes 17 seconds to load. The Chess application includes a video ad for the vehicle, and takes an entire half-minute to boot up.<br />
<br />
Though the Zune HD's multitouch screen and sleek visuals allow for responsive (and good-looking) gaming, we can't imagine these ads will be terribly popular. Still, the games are free, so we guess we can't look a gift horse in the lengthy, unskippable promotional material.<br /><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/09/19/zune-hd-gaming-apps-feature-interstitial-ads/">Zune HD gaming apps feature interstitial ads</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Sat, 19 Sep 2009 13:00:00 EST. </a></div>
The identity of the PSP role-playing game which <em>Disgaea</em> developer <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/07/27/nippon-ichi-may-be-working-on-new-2d-platformer-for-psp/">Nippon Ichi teased in July</a> has been revealed. Appropriately titled <a href="http://www.siliconera.com/2009/09/16/meet-nippon-ichis-absolute-hero/"><em>Zettai Hero Kaizou Keikaku</em></a> (which translates to <em>Absolute Hero Modding Project</em>), the game pits players up against randomly generated dungeons, where they can search for equipment with which to fully customize their character, or battle enemies in order to level up their characters <em>forever</em>.<br />
<br />
The game has a 2010 launch window for Japan, but Ichi hasn't mentioned anything about a North American release. That's a shame -- based on <a href="http://dps.dengeki.com/2009/09/11/p1104/">these screenshots</a> over at Dengeki, it looks right up our isometric alley.<br />

While it doesn't carry the same cachet as "Election Day" or "Chinese Leftovers Day," Zune HD Day is still very much a real thing. With today's launch of Microsoft's pretty-cool-but-still-not-a-phone media player comes final confirmation that the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/Zune-HD/">Zune HD</a> will support games. Buried in the device's <a href="http://news.prnewswire.com/DisplayReleaseContent.aspx?ACCT=104&amp;STORY=/www/story/09-15-2009/0005093833&amp;EDATE=">launch press release</a> is the following line: "Later this year, Zune plans to release ... fun 3-D games such as <em>Project Gotham Racing: Ferrari Edition</em>, <em>Vans Sk8: Pool Service</em> and <em>Audiosurf Tilt</em>."<br /> <br /> Of course, three games does not a platform make and, while Apple is busy touting the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/09/09/apple-touts-21-178-entertainment-titles-in-the-app-store-did/ ">availability of 21,178 games</a> in the iPhone App Store, Microsoft is launching the Zune HD with a far less ... robust marketplace. Even at the launch of Apple's App Store, <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/07/10/jobs-1-3-of-iphone-app-store-launch-apps-are-games/">over a third of the 500 programs available</a> were games; today, it's <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/04/07/iphone-apps-stats-revealed-games-dominate-list/ ">closer to half</a>.<br /> <br /> Unfortunately, the Zune HD isn't competing with the pre-App Store iPhone or iPod Touch, so when Zune marketing manager Brian Seitz tells the Seattle Times that it's "hard to say right now" if the "sometimes connected" Zune HD will be opened up to third-party app development, it's difficult to hide our disappointment. Game development on the Zune HD is happening on a "case-by-case" and not a "come one, come all" basis, Seitz says.<br /> <br /> So, what he's saying is you shouldn't expect to see anywhere near 21k games (regardless of quality) and you can also write off seeing the Zune HD popping up on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/01/26/iphone-dominates-list-of-igf-mobile-2009-finalists/">the list of IGF Mobile nominees</a> next year. As a gaming platform, even a casual gaming platform, will this be enough to compete against the iPod Touch or even the PSP Go? We'll find out "in November" when these games are finally available. <br /> <br /> [Via <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2009/09/15/zune-hd-3d-gaming-and-app-downloads-confirmed/">Engadget</a>]<br /> <br /> <a href="http://news.prnewswire.com/DisplayReleaseContent.aspx?ACCT=104&amp;STORY=/www/story/09-15-2009/0005093833&amp;EDATE=">Source</a> - Press release

Nintendo's <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/dsiware">DSiWare</a> platform is set to become a bit more combustible later this fall -- according to <a href="http://www.andriasang.com/e/blog/2009/09/14/bomberman_dsi_ware/">AndriaSang</a>, the Japanese release list in the latest edition of Famitsu reveals an October launch for <em>Itsudemo Bomberman</em> (which translates to <em>Bomberman Anytime</em>) on the handheld's download service. The magazine also lists a price of 500 DSi Points ($5) for the portable title.<br />
<br />
Hudson hasn't taken the trouble of actually <em>announcing</em> <em>Itsudemo Bomberman</em> yet -- regardless, we've contacted them to see what, if any, details we can surmise about the game.<br />

It seems that reports from way back in January of this year on the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/zune-hd">Zune HD</a> were true -- the upcoming handheld from Microsoft will in fact feature some form of handheld gaming when it releases <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2009/08/13/zune-hd-lands-september-15th-up-for-pre-order-today/">on September 15</a>. At least that's what we can glean from a recent advertisement for the OLED-laden iPod Touch competitor, hinting at a gaming feature (and showing a tiny snippet of a racing game). <br /><br />We've embedded the video after the break, originally found by <a href="http://zunited.net/index.php/topic,10774.0.html">Zunited</a>, but will presumably have to wait until at least Monday to hear more about the Zune HD's gaming features (though we've asked Microsoft for comment either way). Considering the fact that the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/05/26/microsoft-unveils-zune-hd-zune-marketplace-headed-to-360/">Zune Marketplace is coming to Xbox 360</a>, we'll be holding fast hope for a Microsoft version of <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/minis">PSP's Minis</a> at some point in the near future. <br /><br />[Via <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2009/09/12/zune-hd-promotional-videos-offer-brief-glimpse-at-3d-gaming/">Engadget</a>]<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/09/12/zune-hd-promo-video-offers-first-glimpse-of-gaming/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Zune HD promo video offers first glimpse of gaming</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/09/12/zune-hd-promo-video-offers-first-glimpse-of-gaming/">Zune HD promo video offers first glimpse of gaming</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Sat, 12 Sep 2009 11:30:00 EST. Though it's been quite some time since we last heard anything about a <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/02/14/xboy-ziff-davis-survey-hints-at-microsoft-handheld/">portable gaming device from Microsoft</a>, corporate VP Shane Kim recently reconfirmed to <a href="http://games.kikizo.com/news/200907/portable-xbox-a-matter-of-when.asp">Kikizo</a> that the company is still very interested in the idea. "We're building a service in Live that will... <em>will</em> extend to other platforms ... no question about it," Kim told them in an interview earlier this week.<br /><br />He stresses that, with development for <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/project-natal">Project Natal</a> underway, Microsoft isn't exactly ponying up for extra resources to make portable Xbox gaming a reality. "If we chased after a mobile or handheld opportunity, we would not have the resources and ability to do things like ... Project Natal." Surprisingly, Kim even touches on the always touchy (and often not even mentioned) <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/Live-Anywhere/">Live Anywhere</a> initiative, saying, "We talked about Live Anywhere a few years ago ... Live is the connective tissue." From the sounds of things, though Microsoft may very well be thinking about the idea of a gaming handheld in the future, it's not exactly right around the corner.<br />

There's an appropriate time and place for portable gaming. Stuck in a dentist's waiting room? <em>Of course</em>. In the back seat during a lengthy road trip? <em>Go right ahead</em>. Waiting for the movie to start? <em>Acceptable!</em> Working as a security guard stationed in the heart of one of the nation's oldest high-security nuclear weapons plants? No, sir. <em>A thousand times no</em>.<br /><br /><a href="http://www.wbir.com/news/local/story.aspx?storyid=93233">A report from a Knoxville news station</a> turned our eyes to the plight of three security guards who were recently suspended without pay from <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Y-12_National_Security_Complex">the Y-12 nuclear weapons plant</a> in Oak Ridge, TN. Their misconduct? They brought gaming devices "with transmitting capability" (the original article specifically mentions the PSP) into the plant's "protected zone," where cell phones aren't even allowed, because THAT'S WHERE THEY MAKE NUCLEAR WEAPONS. We sure hope those brief rounds of <em>Lumines</em> were worth risking <em>nuclear holocaust</em>, you jerks.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/07/17/three-guards-suspended-for-nearly-blowing-up-planet-with-psp/">Three guards suspended for nearly blowing up planet with PSP</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Fri, 17 Jul 2009 00:15:00 EST. Oh dear reader, this gift of yours was completely unnecessarily, but appreciated all the same! How did you know that we wanted a Nintendo-on-a-chip handheld with 76 games built around a Super Joy III KIRF TV game with a 2.5-inch display?<br /><br />And how did you ever get the dude who <a href="http://forums.benheck.com/viewtopic.php?f=2&amp;t=27897">made it</a> (Ben Heck forum member Brian Hender) to part with it? No, you're right, it's rude of us to ask. We're just happy you did it.<br /><br />[Via <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2009/05/29/nintendo-handheld-packs-76-old-games-behind-one-tiny-screen/">Engadget</a>]<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/05/29/a-portable-nes-with-76-games-you-shouldnt-have/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>A portable NES with 76 games? According to a <a href="http://vjumpbooks.com/bc0905_kingdomhearts.html">V-Jump</a> ad for the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/kingdom-hearts"><em>Kingdom Hearts 358/2 Days</em></a> Collection Guidebook (an official strategy guide), Riku will be a playable character in the game. The delectable piece of information regarding this was found in the lower left part of the ad, and it states (translated via <a href="http://www.andriasang.com/e/blog/2009/05/19/kingdom_hearts_playable_riku/">Andriasang</a>) that the book provides tips on character missions for Donald, various Organization XIII members and, yes, even Riku. So, finally, those looking to control the silver-haired hero can realize their wish. <br /><br />Additionally, Andriasang <a href="http://www.andriasang.com/e/blog/2009/05/18/kh_hologram_missions/">translated more</a> regarding <em>358/2 Days</em>; this time, it's info from the <a href="http://www.square-enix.co.jp/kingdom/days/">official website</a>. The latest update unveiled the new Hologram Missions, a mode which allows players to replay previously accomplished missions in either normal or trial versions (the latter tacks on special conditions and requirements). And, this being a Riku-centric post, we're wondering how many of those missions have Riku in them? There are 80 Trial missions in total, and here's hoping he's in all of them! <br /><br />[Via <a href="http://www.andriasang.com/e/blog/2009/05/19/kingdom_hearts_playable_riku/">Andriasang</a>]<br /><br /><a href="http://vjumpbooks.com/bc0905_kingdomhearts.html">Source</a>: V-Jump<br /><a href="http://www.square-enix.co.jp/kingdom/days/">Source</a>: <em>358/2 Days</em> Official Website<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/05/19/looks-like-riku-is-playable-in-kingdom-hearts-ds/">Looks like Riku is playable in Kingdom Hearts DS</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 19 May 2009 19:00:00 EST. Okay, maybe it's not <a href="http://nintendo.joystiq.com">the perfect handheld</a>, but it's an incredible piece of craftsmanship, wouldn't you say? It was created by user SifUf over at the Ben Heck forums. Considering how many of these kinds of <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/01/07/because-playing-shadows-of-the-empire-on-the-go-is-a-necessity/">projects</a> <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/11/10/portable-snes-vs-portable-snes/">we've</a> <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/09/16/darth-64-shows-the-appeal-of-the-dark-side/">seen</a> <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/01/15/portable-gamecube-needs-more-work-shows-promise/">lately</a>, we're kind of tempted to do this to our own N64 that is sitting in a box somewhere gathering dust. Of course, we never actually would, because we'd hate to bring the fire department out this way again. <br /><br />
<br />[Via <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2008/12/27/nintendo-sixtyfree-lite-r-elegantly-crams-n64-into-a-luscious-ha/">Engadget</a>]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/12/29/nintendo-sixtyfree-lite-r-might-be-the-perfect-handheld/">Nintendo Sixtyfree Lite-R might be the perfect handheld</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Mon, 29 Dec 2008 13:00:00 EST. This certainly <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2005/04/12/benheck-does-it-again-the-portable-n64/">isn't the first time</a> Nintendo's enumerated home console made the jump to the handheld realm -- but it might just be the <a href="http://forums.benheck.com/viewtopic.php?t=27519">sleekest portable N64</a> we've seen to date. SifuF, a disciple of modding guru Ben Heck, recently displayed his terrifying techno-prowess by crafting <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2008/12/27/nintendo-sixtyfree-lite-r-elegantly-crams-n64-into-a-luscious-ha/">the Nintendo Sixtyfree Lite-R</a> (catchy, no?), pictured above. <br /><br />It sports all the buttons of a standard N64 controller, a 5" display (yoinked from the PSOne LCD screen), and an unobtrusive cartridge slot. Unfortunately, its petite framework didn't leave room for an internal battery -- it requires an external infolithium (or other 7.2v) power supply to run. A small, small price to pay for on-the-go sessions of <em><strike>Pok&eacute;mon Snap</strike> </em><em>Ocarina of Time. <br /></em><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/12/27/n64-goes-portable-with-nintendo-sixtyfree-lite-r/">N64 goes portable with Nintendo Sixtyfree Lite-R</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Sat, 27 Dec 2008 16:00:00 EST. Earlier this year, we featured one of the above SNES mods (the one <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/04/28/a-portable-snes-we-wouldnt-mind-having/">on the right</a>), and now, one of our favorite modders has thrown his hat into the portable SNES ring. The SNES <a href="http://kotomiblog.blogspot.com/2008/11/nintendo-snep.html">on the left</a>, by kotomi, is the latest in a long line of great-looking mods featured on his site. <br /><br />But unless you're some sort of ambidextrous, giant-handed mutant <em>freak</em>, you probably can't play two of these at once, and that means you have to choose. Which one do you prefer: kotomi's, or, uh, the other guy's? Unfortunately, we don't know his/her name, though we wish we did!<br /><br /><p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/11/10/portable-snes-vs-portable-snes/#poll22088">View Poll</a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/11/10/portable-snes-vs-portable-snes/">Portable SNES vs. portable SNES</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Mon, 10 Nov 2008 09:00:00 EST. While it looks like one helluva <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/Wii-MotionPlus/">Wiimote attachment</a>, this gangly peripheral is actually a portable <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/rock-band"><em>Rock Band</em></a> (or more appropriately, <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/rock-band-2"><em>Rock Band 2</em></a>) drum kit made by Mad Catz for Xbox 360. So no, we won't be flailing the loose ends about as we race our karts through Moo Moo Meadows. We're told the pads must be laid flat, like on a sturdy coffee table (best not glass) -- or in our case: the unpaid intern's back, or better, draped over his neck like some gaudy Jesus piece -- and repeatedly smashed to the beat of the on-screen cues. We're currently testing the "designed to withstand over 1 million strikes" certification, though the same intern has begun to complain that his wrist hurts. To which we reply: "Dude, stop hitting yourself." (Yeah, we're evil like that.)<br /><br />The "Official Rock Band Portable Drum Kit for Xbox 360" is currently in limbo on <a href="http://store.gameshark.com/viewItem.asp?idProduct=3331&amp;idCategory=186">GameShark</a> for $59.99 (and <a href="http://www.buy.com/prod/Official-Rock-Band-Portable-Drum-Kit-for-Xbox-360-by-Mad-Catz/q/loc/108/208289384.html">Buy.com</a> for $10 less).<br /><br />[Via <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2008/09/23/mad-catzs-brilliant-rock-band-portable-drum-kit-for-xbox-360-no/">Engadget</a>]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/09/23/rock-band-portable-drum-kit-is-not-the-nunchukplus/">Rock Band portable drum kit is not 'NunchukPlus'</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 23 Sep 2008 17:00:00 EST. We say another because the <a href="http://dsfanboy.com/tag/guitar-hero">Guitar Grip</a> obviously went over well, and most folks who tried the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/06/16/essential-extras-taitos-paddle-controller/">paddle</a> controller, for instance, with Taito's <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/06/24/ds-fanboy-review-space-invaders-extreme/">games</a> enjoyed it. <div align="left"><br />Portable screens for home consoles, we will <em>never</em> understand you. Playing <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/search/?q=wii+sports"><em>Wii Sports</em></a> in the car? Did nobody learn anything about the <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/media/2008/08/space-required-not-available-in-das-auto.jpg">serious dangers</a></em> of bowling in confined spaces from the Japanese Wii safety manual? And all on a tinier screen than you'd ever use at home?<br /><br />Clearly, not <em>everybody</em> is so indifferent. This clip-on LCD 16:9 panel from Thinkgeek isn't the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/06/20/lcd-screen-lets-you-waggle-on-the-go/">first</a> of its <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/06/01/the-wii-goes-portable-with-pega/">kind</a>, and we're willing to bet it won't be the last. It's an eye-straining seven inches from corner to corner, but at $109.99 is the cheapest option we've seen to date for those who can't bear to leave their console behind when they step outdoors. $109.99? Hey, what else can you buy for almost that amount? <a href="http://nintendo.joystiq.com">Oh, yes</a>. More shots past the break.</div>

The DS version of <em>The Force Unleashed</em> tries to cram all of the light-saber-rage from the consoles into a handheld package. You'll be disappointed if you directly compare the two. I recently tried a late version of the DS game, and I didn't think enough of the system's strengths and weaknesses affected the design. The DS game gives a 3D perspective of the action on the top screen with adequate visuals, but the chunky graphics steal some of the excitement. And since the camera can't be repositioned, you'll be regularly attacked by people just off-screen. Worse, player attacks are issued by tapping on icons, causing hunting-and-pecking through battles.<br /><br />Since <em>The Force Unleashed</em> is about going nuts with explosive superpowers, that sense of excitement got lost by scaling everything down to fit the DS. A wireless, four-player, local battle mode might make it a fun game to play with friends, but I wasn't able to test that feature. I hope the final game will grow on me after its September 16 release. But the time I had with this portable edition left me cautious.<br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/star-wars-the-force-unleashed-ds/">Star Wars: The Force Unleashed (DS)</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/star-wars-the-force-unleashed-ds/#903960"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2008/07/tfu_ds_tiecombo01_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/star-wars-the-force-unleashed-ds/#903959"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2008/07/tfu_ds_saberwhirlwind_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/star-wars-the-force-unleashed-ds/#903958"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2008/07/tfu_ds_image0122_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/star-wars-the-force-unleashed-ds/#903957"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2008/07/tfu_ds_lightningdroids_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/star-wars-the-force-unleashed-ds/#903956"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2008/07/tfu_ds_storm_maris_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/07/07/joystiq-hands-on-star-wars-the-force-unleashed-ds/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Joystiq hands-on: Star Wars: The Force Unleashed (DS)</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/07/07/joystiq-hands-on-star-wars-the-force-unleashed-ds/">Joystiq hands-on: Star Wars: The Force Unleashed (DS)</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Mon, 07 Jul 2008 13:00:00 EST. While some may be giving Sony's handheld the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/06/09/ready-at-dawn-ceases-psp-development/">cold shoulder</a>, Ubisoft has come forward to give the old girl some love, caressing the PSP's supple buttons and running fingers down her sexy back ... lit display. The company recently told <a href="http://www.gamesindustry.biz/articles/ubisoft-we-still-support-the-psp">GI.biz</a> that it views the portable as an important component of the video game market, reaffirming that it "strongly supports the PSP."<br /><br />The comments were made as part of thinly veiled damage control following <a href="http://www.gamesindustry.biz/articles/ubisoft-s-rob-cooper">criticisms</a> by Ubi's UK managing director Rob Cooper last week levied at Sony for its "directionless" PSP strategy -- particularly compared to the gangbusters success enjoyed by the DS. Even so, it's a course the publisher is keen to keep following, confirming that it plans to publish 12 or so games for the portable this fiscal year. What names exactly will make the leap to the PSP remain unknown, though Ubi notes that at least some of these will include the company's "top-selling brands," giving us reason to think that Sam Fisher and that <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/05/22/a-cleaner-look-at-next-gen-cel-shaded-prince-of-persia/">cel-shaded Prince</a> may be unbuttoning the PSP's potential very soon.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/06/10/ubisoft-still-strongly-supports-psp/">Ubisoft still 'strongly supports' PSP</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 10 Jun 2008 13:30:00 EST. <br />Typical -- you <em>finally</em> get your hands on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/12/18/modder-cuts-snes-down-to-size/">a (sort of) portable SNES</a>, only for someone else to bring out a slimmer, more svelte model three and a half months down the line. Bah. Anyway, this latest handheld Super Nintendo mod is the mightily impressive work of a Ben Heck forum user (whose name we can't locate, due to the forums being down; leave a comment for credit and cookies!), who not only shows off his new baby by playing <em>Star Fox</em> (much like the creator of the last portable SNES -- is <em>Star Fox</em> some kind of modding community in-joke?), but also spends some time listing everything he's squeezed in there.<br /><br />As it happens, this includes a 5-inch Zenith LCD, a headphone socket, and ports for A/V out <em>and </em>a second controller. Kudos to you, sir, but we think we <em>marginally</em> prefer the retro look of the older, wooden version, even if it is heftier.<br /><br />[Via <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2008/04/02/snes-modded-into-handheld-by-ben-heck-forum-member/">Engadget</a>]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/04/03/latest-portable-snes-mod-is-actually-portable/">Latest portable SNES mod is actually portable</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 03 Apr 2008 20:00:00 EST. We hate to sound like your mother, Mr. I-Can-Mod-a-GameCube, but your fingernails (well, one nail, on your thumb) look pretty dirty. In fact, the unit itself looks like it could use a good cleaning as well. And, those vents look like they were made with a ballpoint pen in some Styrofoam. <br /><br />But, we don't want to be <em>too </em>harsh. Because, and we'll be perfectly honest, we wouldn't <em>ever</em> be able to get past the first stage of creating a <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/01/07/because-playing-shadows-of-the-empire-on-the-go-is-a-necessity/">portable gaming system</a>: unplugging the console and hacking it apart. We'd probably just pop in <a href="http://www.gamerankings.com/htmlpages2/589712.asp"><em>Twin Snakes</em></a>, sit down and forget about the mod altogether.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/01/15/portable-gamecube-needs-more-work-shows-promise/">Portable GameCube needs more work, shows promise</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 15 Jan 2008 18:00:00 EST. We love <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/category/mods">mods</a> as much as the next person, but this unit above actually lacks one important feature: <em>being able to use it</em>. We wonder how one could actually go about setting the controller <em>above</em> the display, as we can only picture ourselves trying to play this and seeing nothing but forearm. Unless the game we're playing is <em>Forearm Explosion: The Jupiter Exchange Incident</em>, we're not sure we could get through any game on this console.<br /><br />[Via <a href="http://www.maxconsole.net/?mode=news&amp;newsid=24037">MAXCONSOLE</a>]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/01/07/because-playing-shadows-of-the-empire-on-the-go-is-a-necessity/">Because playing Shadows of the Empire on the go is a necessity</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Mon, 07 Jan 2008 14:15:00 EST. Until that fine day when <span style="text-decoration: line-through;">hell freezes over</span> we can play Virtual Console games on the DS, our solutions for portable SNES games are few (beyond any existing GBA versions, of couse). Barriers like that exist for modders to break, however, and that's exactly what one intrepid engineer did with an extra SNES he had lying around. It took a bit more than that, though; not only did he gut the elderly system, but he also incorporated a PSOne LCD ... oh, and a <em>hand-crafted</em> wooden case. Together? They form a semi-portable, mostly-handheld, mobile SNES you can carry around and show off. Head past the break to see it in action.<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/12/18/modder-cuts-snes-down-to-size/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Modder cuts SNES down to size</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/12/18/modder-cuts-snes-down-to-size/">Modder cuts SNES down to size</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 18 Dec 2007 12:45:00 EST. Does it ever leave your house? Do you take it on planes, trains, and automobiles? Maybe your Wii has been all over the world, or maybe it's never left your living room. Simply put, do you ever travel with your Wii?<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/11/25/wii-warm-up-portability/">Wii Warm Up: Portability</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Sun, 25 Nov 2007 10:30:00 EST. The <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/11/06/harmonix-releases-ipod-game-phase/">original <em>Phase</em> news</a> reminded some of us too much of (non) game, <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/08/07/parappas-papa-matsuura-produces-ipod-product-musika/"><em>Musika</em></a> to buy. But this video clearly shows simple pattern-matching gameplay that may rock pockets better than the portable <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/09/10/no-touch-screen-strumming-for-guitar-hero-ds-peripheral-promise/">Guitar Hero</a></em>.<br /><br />Check out the video, and contemplate your purchase after the break.<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/11/08/todays-ipod-rocking-video-phase-trailer/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Today's iPod-rocking video: Phase trailer</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/11/08/todays-ipod-rocking-video-phase-trailer/">Today's iPod-rocking video: Phase trailer</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 08 Nov 2007 01:00:00 EST. Despite this announcement, however, a firm release date has not yet been confirmed for <em>Nanostray 2</em> beyond the rather nebulous '<em>early 2008</em>.'<br /><br />Majesco also handled publishing for the original <em>Nanostray </em>in 2005, which itself was a spiritual successor to <em>Iridion</em> <em>3D </em>and <em>Iridion II</em> for the Game Boy Advance, both of which Majesco published as well, so as shockers go, this one <em>hardly registers a blip</em>. <br /><br />Players looking forward to picking up <em>Nanostray 2</em> can expect half a dozen game modes, as well as more than 30 different missions (both horizontal and vertical) for both single and two-player gaming. Most interesting, however, is that <em>Nanostray 2</em> will also finally include internet ranking, a feature announced and later dropped from the original <em>Nanostray</em>, thanks to Nintendo's Wi-Fi Connection.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/10/05/majesco-picks-up-nanostray-sequel-for-2008/">Majesco picks up Nanostray sequel for 2008</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Fri, 05 Oct 2007 11:50:00 EST.
