That may sound like the obvious and desired result, but what if you, in your capacity as a malevolent and cunning artificial intelligence, want to keep a single test subject alive while the rest asphyxiate horribly?<br /><br />Costume artist Two Horns United may have found a solution to this classic scientific dilemma with his custom built Aperture Science Portal Gun Gas Mask. While the inner workings of the mask's machinations are not fully explained, we assume it uses portal technology to funnel clean, breathable air into your squishy human test subject's dreadfully inefficient lungs. AIs interested in integrating post-traumatic stress disorder into their testing regiments can get on the waiting list by messaging Two Horns United on <a href="http://twohornsunited.deviantart.com/">his DeviantArt page</a>.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/05/29/avoid-murdering-all-of-your-test-subjects-with-this-aperture-sci/">Avoid murdering all of your test subjects with this Aperture Science gas mask</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 29 May 2012 00:30:00 EST. It lights up in both orange and blue, and makes appropriate <em>Portal</em>-y sounds! In short, the toy does everything you'd want a <em>Portal</em> gun to do ... except for the one thing you'd want an actual <em>Portal</em> gun to do.<br /><br />NECA notes on its <a href="https://twitter.com/#!/NECA_TOYS/status/185086376600023040">Twitter page</a> that pre-orders in the US are currently sold out, but "other opportunities" are coming. NECA has only manufactured 5,000 of the $140 replicas, and considering that <em>Portal 2</em> sold <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/06/22/newell-portal-2-has-sold-3-million-copies-since-launch/">three million copies</a> in its first two months on the market, we expect demand to be fairly high. "The item was never produced, and to the best of our knowledge will not be delivered to any retailer at this time."<br /><br />Entertainment Earth has logged a protest with NECA, but for now it seems we'll all be $130 richer and a million-fold more heartbroken.<br /><br />[Thanks, Matthew.]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/03/12/replica-portal-gun-canceled-without-reason-compassion/">Replica portal gun orders canceled by some retailers [update: still coming, says NECA]</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Mon, 12 Mar 2012 17:30:00 EST. Many a night have been spent fantasizing about somehow owning our own without taking out a second mortgage, and now the dream can finally become a reality.<br /><br />Well, not <em>now</em> now, but in a few months. NECA Toys is developing a line of licensed Valve products that include <em>Team Fortress 2</em>, <em>Half Life</em> and <em>Left 4 Dead 2</em> action figures, but the crowning jewel of the series is NECA's one-to-one scale ASHPD replica. <em>It lights up and everything</em>. The device should be available somewhere around May or June of this year and retail for $130, according a brief video interview with NECA's Randy Falk at <a href="http://www.theverge.com/2012/2/23/2819423/toy-fair-2012-overview-video">The Verge</a>. As if we needed any more daily reminders that this dimension isn't the best of all possible dimensions, <a href="http://www.dorkly.com/video/20874/dorkly-bits-mega-man-with-a-portal-gun">Dorkly</a> has decided to drive that fact home by granting us a window into a world where Mega Man and Aperture Science coexist. Come, pine with us for what can never be.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/08/09/mega-man-with-a-portal-gun-proves-that-there-are-better-realitie/">Mega Man with a Portal Gun proves that there are better realities than this one</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 09 Aug 2011 04:00:00 EST. As if we needed more proof that <em>everything </em>is better with a portal gun, the boys at Dorkly put one in <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/Zelda/"><em>The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past</em></a>, and the results are awesome. Any weapon that allows chickens to do the dirty work for you is a good weapon.<br />
<br />
But really, name one thing that wouldn't be better with a portal gun. We dare you. Heavy construction sites don't count. Neither do fault lines. Or volcano cores. Fine, name four things. We <em>dare </em>you.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/07/15/link-to-the-past-with-a-portal-gun-is-better-than-without-a-port/">Link to the Past with a Portal Gun is better than without a portal gun</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Fri, 15 Jul 2011 16:53:00 EST. After wowing us with his <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/02/03/how-to-make-a-portal-gun-replica-hint-its-not-easy/"><em>Portal</em> "gun" replica</a>, Harrison Krix is at it again -- this time tackling the world of <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/BioShock/">BioShock</a></em>. His latest in-game item replica is the <a href="http://volpinprops.blogspot.com/2009/02/bioshock-little-sister-adam-syringe.html">ADAM Syringe</a>, used by the Little Sisters who roam the world of Rapture. We sat down with Harrison to discuss his work, reactions from video game companies and what he would build if money and time were no object.<br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/bioshock-adam-syringe-replica/">BioShock: ADAM Syringe Replica</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/bioshock-adam-syringe-replica/#1388923"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2009/02/3271762471_10e860a764_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/bioshock-adam-syringe-replica/#1388942"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2009/02/3271762935_5362174f50_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/bioshock-adam-syringe-replica/#1388927"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2009/02/3272583082_f25b1bb618_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/bioshock-adam-syringe-replica/#1388933"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2009/02/3272583350_74fb839767_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/bioshock-adam-syringe-replica/#1388943"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2009/02/3272583668_9088f599f5_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/02/26/joystiq-interview-harrison-krix-video-game-replica-designer/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Joystiq Interview: Harrison Krix, replica designer</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/02/26/joystiq-interview-harrison-krix-video-game-replica-designer/">Joystiq Interview: Harrison Krix, replica designer</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 26 Feb 2009 19:01:00 EST. <div align="left">Flickr user <a title="Link to emilyskeith's photostream" href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/30109689@N03/"><strong>emilyskeith</strong></a> has uploaded a set of images that show off an amazing fan-made <em>Portal</em> Gun (or Aperture Science Handheld Portal Device) that her boyfriend made to go along with an Aperture Science test subject cosplay outfit she is developing. Featuring blue and orange LEDs, the classic three prong design and even a splash of blood to showoff a nasty turret bullet graze, this is one of the coolest things we've ever seen. And now we feel like playing <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/Portal/">Portal</a></em> again! <em>Thanks</em>, Emily ... we're trying to work here!<br /></div>
