The video itself is cobbled together from live-action motion capture sessions and concept art. It takes place in an Egyptian setting, featuring a street brawl, a magically summoned swarm of insects and a rather beefy protagonist. The video shares some similarities with <a href="http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showpost.php?p=38376554">screenshots</a> that were <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/08/06/rumor-screenshot-of-prince-of-persia-reboot-leaked/">leaked last year</a>, which many thought to be taken from a new Prince of Persia (a claim series creator Jordan Mechner <a href="http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showthread.php?t=485457">later refuted</a>).<br /><br />Whatever <em>Osiris </em>was - a new IP or a Prince of Persia sequel - it's not a Ubisoft project anymore, the publisher told <a href="http://www.polygon.com/2013/1/29/3931270/ubisoft-rumored-prince-of-persia-reboot-osiris-leaked-video">Polygon</a>. "The content in question was from a Ubisoft project that is no longer moving forward," a spokesperson said.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2013/01/30/footage-of-ubisoft-project-osiris-surfaces-no-longer-moving/">Footage of Ubisoft project 'Osiris' surfaces, 'no longer moving forward'</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 30 Jan 2013 15:00:00 EST. We'd forgotten this was happening in the interim between the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/12/19/prince-of-persia-for-wii-and-3ds-rayman-for-3ds-rated/">December ESRB rating</a> and today, so this is, like every Wii Virtual Console release, a pleasant and unexpected surprise.<br /><br />Speaking of surprises, DSiWare's <em>Crazy Hunter</em> is about a crocodile building a goat tower to reach the sky, in order to capture hens who lay golden eggs. It gets weirder from there, actually.<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/09/06/nintendoware-weekly-prince-of-persia/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>NintendoWare Weekly: Prince of Persia</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/09/06/nintendoware-weekly-prince-of-persia/">NintendoWare Weekly: Prince of Persia</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 06 Sep 2012 18:30:00 EST. Judging from the image, the game is a reboot that boots the series all the way into Egypt, and features a more muscular, darker-skinned protagonist.<br /><br />If authentic, it's clearly an early image, unless this new Prince has the ability to make bystanders hover. The name "Prince of Persia Zero" has been used internally as a name for a reboot. Former art director Jonathan Jacques-Bellet&ecirc;te used the name in an interview with <a href="http://www.computerandvideogames.com/266494/modern-day-prince-of-persia-scrapped-by-ubisoft/">CVG</a>, in reference to either the released 2008 game or a cancelled "modern" spinoff (it isn't clear <em>which</em> reboot he names as such in the context). In either case, "Zero 2" would suggest another spinoff or reboot.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/08/06/rumor-screenshot-of-prince-of-persia-reboot-leaked/">Rumor: Screenshot of Prince of Persia reboot leaked</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Mon, 06 Aug 2012 09:30:00 EST. It's finally the last day of the Steam Summer Sale and we ... what's that? There's another day of this madness? That's just great. Well, hopefully you didn't budget your lemonade stand money the way we did this year in order to account for <em>tomorrow</em>, the final day of the sales promotion.<br /><br />It's hard to keep up when today's sales include <a href="http://store.steampowered.com/app/200010/?snr=1_4_4__sdd"><em>Quantum Conundrum</em></a> and <a href="http://store.steampowered.com/sub/4638/?snr=1_4_4__sdd"><em>Arma 2: Combined Operations</em></a>, both at 40% off. Also, <em><a href="http://store.steampowered.com/sub/15401/?snr=1_4_4__sdd">Batman: Arkham City</a></em> stands alone at 66% off, plenty of reason for us to pretend July 22 isn't even on the calendar. While we're at it, <a href="http://store.steampowered.com/sub/8233/?snr=1_4_4__sdd"><em>Prince of Persia</em></a>, <a href="http://store.steampowered.com/app/71000/?snr=1_4_4__sdd"><em>Evochron Mercenary</em></a>, <a href="http://store.steampowered.com/app/41500/?snr=1_4_4__sdd"><em>Torchlight</em></a>, <a href="http://store.steampowered.com/sub/15349/?snr=1_4_4__sdd"><em>Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War 2</em></a>, and <em><a href="http://store.steampowered.com/sale/Fable3Sale?snr=1_4_4__sdd">Fable 3</a></em> are tempting us with a 75% discount. Finally, the <a href="http://store.steampowered.com/sub/15389/">indie bundle</a> for today includes <a href="http://store.steampowered.com/app/63710/?snr=1_6_4__421"><em>Bit.Trip Runner</em></a>, <a href="http://store.steampowered.com/app/41210/?snr=1_6_4__421"><em>Eufloria</em></a>, and <a href="http://store.steampowered.com/app/40700/?snr=1_6_4__421"><em>Machinarium</em></a>.<br /><br />Enough about games, who wants to buy some delicious lemonade so we're ready for tomorrow's sales?<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/07/21/steam-summer-sale-day-10-batman-arkham-city-torchlight-quant/">Steam Summer Sale, Day 10: Batman Arkham City, Torchlight, Quantum Conundrum and more</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Sat, 21 Jul 2012 19:30:00 EST. We're glad people like Mechner exist who can do things like "write Prince of Persia," and we're glad people like Scott exist who can figure out how to preserve this material for computers that aren't <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2012/04/16/apple-ii-turns-35-doesnt-bother-with-midlife-crisis/">35 years old</a>. Chances are, you'd be pretty excited -- even if you'd already seen the code when you were writing it.<br /><br />Jordan Mechner, who <em>did</em> write <em>Prince of Persia</em>, received a box from his father containing a few retail <em>Prince of Persia</em> and <em>Karateka</em> packages, along with a couple of 3.5" disks. Those hold what Mechner believes to be the original Apple 2 source code for the platformer.<br /><br />The best news (for people who aren't Jordan Mechner): as soon as he figures out how to "extract something useful," he plans to put it online, providing a rare look at gaming history, and perhaps fodder for weird remix projects.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/03/29/jordan-mechner-finds-original-prince-of-persia-source-code/">Jordan Mechner finds original Prince of Persia source code</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 29 Mar 2012 19:30:00 EST. First, Mechner announces a radically updated Karateka game, and now Ubisoft has released a new remake of Prince of Persia to the iOS App Store.<br /><br /><em>Prince of Persia Classic HD</em> purports to be the original game with a new HD look -- likely very similar to that of the 2007 XBLA remake by Gameloft. But on your <a href="http://itunes.apple.com/us/app/prince-of-persia-classic/id464308703">phone</a> or <a href="http://itunes.apple.com/us/app/prince-of-persia-classic-hd/id464308294?mt=8&amp;uo=4">iPad</a>. Ratings have popped up in Australia for 3DS games called simply "<a href="http://www.classification.gov.au/www/cob/find.nsf/3ee9cf339ddee09eca2575ca000be1e3/01cf75f6b9d6e807ca2579680057f955?OpenDocument">Rayman</a>" and "<a href="http://www.classification.gov.au/www/cob/find.nsf/5b6ebdff7f5b9a24ca2575ca00062226/7c276fdb98b0e7d3ca2579680057f959?OpenDocument">Prince of Persia</a>," along with a Wii "<a href="http://www.classification.gov.au/www/cob/find.nsf/5b6ebdff7f5b9a24ca2575ca00062226/e8f7d9732979f327ca2579680057f957?OpenDocument">Prince of Persia</a>." Ubisoft has done plenty with both of these franchises, ensuring that we can't know for sure exactly what's been revealed here.<br />
<br />
The simplest explanation is that these listings are all for Virtual Console downloads. <em>Prince of Persia</em> was released on both the Game Boy and Game Boy Color, making it eligible for the 3DS Virtual Console -- and it was made for almost all of the platforms supported by the Wii Virtual Console. In addition, a game called "Rayman" was released on Game Boy Color, which was a combination of elements from Rayman 1 and 2 -- and thus providing an example of why we'd have a hard time knowing what the plain "Rayman" title referred to.<br />

Finally, those stalwarts who refuse to "upgrade" from their trusty Commodore 64 computers can experience that hot new game, <em>Prince of Persia</em>. Homebrew developer mrsid ported the 1989 game from its original Apple 2 version, making the cartridge image available for download from his <a href="http://popc64.blogspot.com/2011/10/prince-of-persia-for-commodore-64128.html">site</a>. If you have a C64 or 128 and a flashable C64 cartridge -- or, more likely, if you have a C64 emulator -- you can check out the achievement.<br />
<br />
The rest of us will have to settle for this video, which looks remarkably smooth for an unofficial port on such an old system. It drew the attention of <em>Prince of Persia</em> creator Jordan Mechner, who commented to say "I'm amazed and humbled by the amount of work this must have taken."<br />
<br />
Mechner also solved the mystery of why there wasn't an official C64 version, even though there were <a href="http://www.hardcoregaming101.net/princeofpersia/princeofpersia.htm">so many ports</a>: "Back in 1989, when I was making POP on the Apple II, I couldn't get anyone interested in doing a C64 port," he commented, "because it was too old a system."<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/10/17/prince-of-persia-leaps-to-commodore-64/">Prince of Persia leaps to Commodore 64</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Mon, 17 Oct 2011 10:30:00 EST. Ubisoft's chosen to <a href="http://store.steampowered.com/news/5521/">kick off</a> its week-long series of discounts on Ubisoft titles with the company's most acrobatic franchise. For today only, shoppers can grab individual <em>Prince of Persia</em> titles for 66 percent off, or the <em>Prince of Persia</em> complete pack for 75 percent off.<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/05/23/ubisoft-week-kicks-off-on-steam-with-prince-of-persia-discounts/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Ubisoft week kicks off on Steam with Prince of Persia discounts</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/05/23/ubisoft-week-kicks-off-on-steam-with-prince-of-persia-discounts/">Ubisoft week kicks off on Steam with Prince of Persia discounts</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Mon, 23 May 2011 22:05:00 EST. In 1985, Jordan Mechner was thinking about baggy pants, arches and columns -- images that could be clearly conveyed in a low-resolution, pixelated computer game. While delivering his <em>Prince of Persia</em> postmortem during <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/gdc-2011">GDC</a> earlier this month, Mechner delved into his memories, his journals (which you can <a href="http://jordanmechner.com/category/old-journals/">read online</a>) and his temporary departure from the game midway through development to pursue a screenwriting career in Hollywood.<br />
<br />
Mechner's interests and techniques have always been embedded in cinema. He filmed his brother David running about in a Reader's Digest parking lot with a VHS camera, and layered drawings on top of those movements (in a process called rotoscoping) to capture the protagonist's movements in <em>Prince of Persia</em>. You've heard that part, but you might not know about the fate of the camera that captured such iconic scurrying. According to Mechner, he purchased it, recorded the necessary footage, and then returned it within a 30-day guarantee. "I felt a little guilty about it, but I was trying to keep costs down," he said.<br />
<br />
Initially dubbed "Thief of Baghdad" (and inspired by the film of the same name), the game continued to come together in a modular fashion, at one time incorporating a full level editor that Mechner had to persistently test, making sure users couldn't introduce game-breaking bugs. "My job title was programmer, all those other things were extra."<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/03/15/jordan-mechner-on-prince-of-persia-respecting-game-writers/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Jordan Mechner on Prince of Persia, respecting game writers</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/03/15/jordan-mechner-on-prince-of-persia-respecting-game-writers/">Jordan Mechner on Prince of Persia, respecting game writers</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 15 Mar 2011 15:10:00 EST. Squeaking in right before we all head out for the holidays, Ubisoft has announced a sale on many of its games across <a href="http://ax.search.itunes.apple.com/WebObjects/MZSearch.woa/wa/search?entity=software&amp;media=all&amp;page=1&amp;restrict=true&amp;startIndex=0&amp;term=ubisoft">Apple's App Store</a>, the PlayStation Store and <a href="http://shop.ubi.com/store/ubina/en_US/html/pbPage.33off_PC_GAMES_US">its own PC game store</a>. You can find <a href="http://itunes.apple.com/us/app/prince-of-persia-retro/id373984189?mt=8"><em>Prince of Persia Retro</em></a>, <a href="http://itunes.apple.com/us/app/silent-hunter-mobile/id362483643?mt=8"><em>Silent Hunter Mobile</em></a> and a few other iOS titles on sale in the App Store for just a buck. Ubisoft's game packs on PSN are at half price (one features the old school <em>Prince of Persia</em> bundled with <em>Cell Factor</em>, and the other contains <em>Scott Pilgrim, TMNT Reshelled</em> and <em>Voodoo Dice</em>) and the official online store for Ubisoft has <a href="http://shop.ubi.com/store/ubina/en_US/html/pbPage.33off_PC_GAMES_US">33% off most of its PC titles</a> (with a full list after the break).<br />
<br />
None of these sales are super crazy (though that 99 cent deal for the original <em>Prince of Persia</em> on iOS is pretty good), but if you've been thinking of picking up something from the <em>Assassin's Creed</em> series or a <em>Tom Clancy</em> title, this deal should get you at least a few bucks off. The sale lasts until midnight PST on Christmas Day.<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/12/24/ubisoft-puts-titles-on-sale-for-ios-psn-and-pc/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Ubisoft puts titles on sale for iOS, PSN and PC</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/12/24/ubisoft-puts-titles-on-sale-for-ios-psn-and-pc/">Ubisoft puts titles on sale for iOS, PSN and PC</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Fri, 24 Dec 2010 08:30:00 EST. <div style="text-align: left; ">When we last wrote about <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/onlive">OnLive</a>, the "cloud gaming" service had just <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/11/18/onlive-microconsole-available-for-pre-order-launches-dec-2-for/">announced a price and ship date</a> for its <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/11/18/onlive-microconsole-review/">MicroConsole hardware</a>. At the time, we also reported that it was planning to launch <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/11/18/onlive-introducing-flat-rate-monthly-plan-for-back-catalog-indi/">a flat-rate pricing plan</a> for access to older "back catalog" titles and indie games, with a price to be announced. This morning, the company has set what's now known as the "PlayPack" plan at $9.99 per month, and will make it available to all OnLive users on January 15, 2011. <br />
<br />
PlayPack is available <em>right now</em> to those with the OnLive MicroConsole -- or soon to get one, as they've begun shipping to Founding Members today -- in "beta" form, free of charge until the official roll-out.<br />
<br />
Currently, the PlayPack beta offers access to a collection of about a dozen games, some new to the service (like <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/prince-of-persia">Prince of Persia</a></em> and <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/tomb-raider-underworld">Tomb Raider: Underworld</a></em>) while others, like <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/unreal-tournament-3">Unreal Tournament 3</a></em>, have been on the service since it launched last summer. OnLive says it will have a library of 40 games ready for PlayPack subscribers when the for-pay tier launches in January. Looking at the finer print, some of the games "require a mouse and/or keyboard" -- which are supported in both wired and wireless flavors by the MicroConsole. Check out a partial list of games included in the PlayPack beta after the break.</div><p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/12/02/onlive-prices-flat-rate-playpack-plan-at-10-per-month-begins/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>OnLive prices flat-rate 'PlayPack' plan at $10 per month, begins MicroConsole shipments</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/12/02/onlive-prices-flat-rate-playpack-plan-at-10-per-month-begins/">OnLive prices flat-rate 'PlayPack' plan at $10 per month, begins MicroConsole shipments</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 02 Dec 2010 12:01:00 EST. Well, that <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/11/15/prince-of-persia-splinter-cell-digital/">didn't take very long</a>. A high-definition update of Ubisoft Montreal's <em>Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time</em> is set to arrive on the PlayStation Network starting today. Launching in Europe later this week as a single Blu-ray disc, the remastered <em>Prince of Persia Trilogy</em> will be brought to the American PlayStation store in three separate flavors: original, smoldering and <em>nutty</em>.<br />
<br />
According to the PlayStation Blog, <em>Warrior Within</em> (that game they made because you didn't buy <em>Sands of Time</em> in the first place) and <em>The Two Thrones</em> will launch on PSN in December. All three adventures boast 720p resolution, Trophies, 3D support and $14.99 price tags. That's $45 for the original trilogy -- and you can probably find <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/prince-of-persia-the-forgotten-sands">The Forgotten Sands</a></em> in a bargain bin if you're looking for even more of the classic Prince's elegant environmental puzzles. <p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/11/16/prince-of-persia-the-sands-of-time-hd-on-psn-today/">Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time HD on PSN today</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 16 Nov 2010 15:33:00 EST. The listing states that the collection will be released November 19.<br />
<br />
The three screens of <em>Prince of Persia: Trilogy in HD</em> show <em>Sands of Time</em>, <em>Warrior Within</em>, and <em>The Two Thrones</em>, upscaled to 720p. According to <a href="http://scrawlfx.com/2010/10/prince-of-persia-trilogy-announced-for-ps3">ScrawlFX</a>, the disc will also support stereoscopic 3D. We're following up with Ubisoft about North American plans, or at least to get some kind of real confirmation that this is actually a thing.<br />
<br />
<strong>Update:</strong> Ubisoft has informed Joystiq that the re-release is a real product, being released in EMEA (Europe, Middle East, Africa) territories only.<br type="_moz" /><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/10/05/prince-of-persia-trilogy-in-hd-screenshots-appear-on-amazon/">Prince of Persia: Trilogy in HD screenshots appear on Amazon</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 05 Oct 2010 16:45:00 EST. Ubisoft once considered a rather drastic reboot for its <em>Prince of Persia</em> series, former employee Jonathan Jacques-Bellet&ecirc;te revealed to Xbox World 360. Now working for Eidos, Jacques-Bellet&ecirc;te described the canceled project as <em>Prince of Persia</em> "in the contemporary world." The pitch was described as "a bit <em>Day After Tomorrow</em>, but replace the snow with sand."<br />
<br />
The pitch was eventually shelved, likely due to the continued progress of the already in-development <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/prince-of-persia-2008">cel-shaded</a> <em>Prince of Persia </em>and <em>Assassin's Creed</em>. Considering the direction Ubisoft is taking the latter series, a modern <em>PoP</em> may have been perceived as too similar. However, given Ubisoft's quick decision to <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/prince-of-persia-the-forgotten-sands">abandon</a> the cel-shaded reboot, we wouldn't be surprised if Ubisoft reconsiders reviving this idea from its vault.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/09/24/ex-ubisoft-art-director-reveals-canceled-plans-for-modern-prince/">Ex-Ubisoft art director reveals canceled plans for modern Prince of Persia</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Fri, 24 Sep 2010 22:00:00 EST. High-definition updates of last generation's <em>Splinter Cell</em> and <em>Prince of Persia</em> games have popped up again, this time on a UK retail site. <a href="http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/2010-09-21-splinter-cell-pop-hd-collections-likely">Eurogamer</a> points to listings on Zavvi.com of the two Ubisoft trilogies, bundled on PlayStation 3 for &pound;30 MSRP. <em>Splinter Cell </em>has a <a href="http://www.zavvi.com/games/platforms/ps3/splinter-cell-trilogy-hd-collection/10239117.html">late November</a> date attached, while <em>PoP</em> is listed for <a href="http://www.zavvi.com/games/platforms/ps3/prince-of-persia-trilogy-hd-collection/10239115.html">March 2011</a>. Last month, the two HD collections emerged on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/08/08/rumor-ubisoft-releasing-splinter-cell-prince-of-persia-trilogi/">Amazon France</a>, both with an early November release date.<br />
<br />
The PS3 already has the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/god-of-war-collection/"><em>God of War Collection</em></a> out there, with <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/the-sly-collection/"><em>Sly Cooper</em></a> and <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/09/16/ico-shadow-of-the-colossus-collection-revealed-not-only-hd-bu/">ICO / Shadow of the Colossus</a> bundles on the way. We've contacted Ubisoft for official word on the <em>Splinter Cell</em> and <em>PoP</em> bundle matter, but should that fail we have an asset on standby to extract the information ... through any means necessary.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/09/21/prince-of-persia-splinter-cell-hd-collections-listed-by-uk-reta/">Prince of Persia, Splinter Cell HD collections listed by UK retail site</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 21 Sep 2010 11:30:00 EST. According to Amazon France listings spotted by <a href="http://www.thesixthaxis.com/2010/08/07/splinter-cell-trilogy-for-ps3/">The Sixth Axis</a>, both <em><a href="http://www.amazon.fr/UBI-Soft-Splinter-cell-trilogie/dp/B003YB6D30">Splinter Cell</a></em> and <em><a href="http://www.amazon.fr/UBI-Soft-Prince-persia-trilogy/dp/B003VMCLU6/ref=sr_1_30?ie=UTF8&amp;s=videogames&amp;qid=1281183128&amp;sr=1-30">Prince of Persia</a></em> franchises could be getting the Blu-ray treatment in the coming months. Unfortunately, other than a 39.95 Euro ($54) price tag and a November 2 release date, neither listing provides any real detail on what the trilogies might contain.<br />
<br />
If Ubisoft is planning to re-release these games as compilations, it's possible that they might feature updated graphics, much like last year's <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/god-of-war-collection">God of War Collection</a>.</em> With a <em>Sly Cooper</em> collection on the way -- and rumors of a Team Ico Collection refusing to go away -- we'd hardly be surprised to see third-party publishers giving their own classics another spin. <p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/08/08/rumor-ubisoft-releasing-splinter-cell-prince-of-persia-trilogi/">Rumor: Ubisoft releasing Splinter Cell, Prince of Persia trilogies on PS3</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Sun, 08 Aug 2010 15:30:00 EST. Though Jerry Bruckheimer's latest opus, a film adaptation of <em>Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time</em>, wasn't received with <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/05/31/prince-of-persia-movie-opens-with-30-2m-domestically/">commercial fanfare in the U.S.</a> (it's only pulled in about $80 million domestically), it's fared far better overseas. According to <a href="http://www.boxofficemojo.com/movies/?id=princeofpersia.htm">Box Office Mojo</a>, the movie's received worldwide earnings of $293 million, making it the highest grossing game-to-film adaptation to date. <br />
<br />
The previous holder of this prestigious title was the original <em>Tomb Raider</em> film, which currently stands at <a href="http://www.boxofficemojo.com/movies/?id=tombraider.htm">$274 million</a> worldwide. We're overjoyed that <em>Prince of Persia</em> managed to surpass this record -- mainly because, hey, it's about time someone took Jon Voight down a peg or two.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/06/22/prince-of-persia-becomes-highest-grossing-video-game-based-movie/">Prince of Persia becomes highest grossing video game-based movie</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 22 Jun 2010 16:00:00 EST. <strong>Update: </strong>IMDB has updated its projected totals for the weekend box office to include the Memorial Day holiday, increasing ticket totals of <em>Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time</em> from $30.2 million to $37.8 million for the four-day weekend. The increase pushes the video game-based flick to second place ahead of <em>Sex and the City 2</em>.<br />
<br />
<strong>Original:</strong> If you only considered its current <a href="http://www.metacritic.com/film/titles/princeofpersia?q=prince%20of%20persia">Metacritic</a> ranking, <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/prince-of-persia-movie/"><em>Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time</em></a> could be called the first disaster movie of the summer season. According to <a href="http://www.imdb.com/chart/">IMDb</a>, the Jerry Bruckheimer-produced time manipulation romp cracked third place in the US with $30.2 million in its opening weekend, behind first-place <em>Shrek Forever After</em> ($43.3 million) and <em>Sex and the City 2</em><em>: </em><strike><em>Electric Boogaloo</em></strike> with $32.1 million.<br />
<br />
While Bruckheimer may have been wishing for <em>Pirates of the Caribbean</em>-style opening numbers, <a href="http://www.boxofficemojo.com/genres/chart/?view=openings&amp;id=videogameadaptation.htm&amp;p=.htm">Box Office Mojo</a> reports that <em>Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time</em> is the third largest box office opening ever for a video game-based film. <em>Lara Croft: Tomb Raider </em>and <em>Pokemon: The First Movie</em>, currently own the first and second spot respectively in that <em>extremely</em> specific category.<br />
<br />
Internationally the <em>Prince</em> fared better, bringing in $59 million from overseas theaters and <a href="http://www.hollywoodreporter.com/hr/content_display/news/e3i41595b3b7aad282d5b29433fb0603e13">capturing first place</a>. So far, <em>The Sands of Time</em> has earned a total of $87.5 in the two weeks it has been released overseas.<br />

A pre-ordered copy of the Digital Deluxe Edition, available on Steam, includes a map, a soundtrack, two extra skins, and, most importantly, a free copy of <em>Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time</em> to play while you wait for the June 8 release of <em>Forgotten Sands</em>.<br />

You'll also get a free copy of <em>Sands of Time</em>'s sequel, <em>Prince of Persia: Warrior Within</em>. In fact, you'll get that freebie on Steam whether you buy the $60 deluxe version or the $50 regular version. Just because you weren't already <em>drowning</em> in <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/prince-of-persia"><em>Prince of Persia</em></a>-based media outings, Ubisoft has decided to bring the platforming, swordfighting heir apparent to the App Store. <a href="http://wireless.ign.com/articles/109/1091258p1.html">According to IGN</a>, <em>Prince of Persia Retro</em>, a port of the original 1989 version of Jordan Mechner's classic , will be available to purchase on your iPhone, iPod Touch and iPad "any moment now." No mention was made of the game's price -- we've contacted Ubisoft to divine that ever-important detail.<br />
<br />
Though we already own the original <em>Prince of Persia</em> on a handful of different platforms, we wouldn't mind having him on our cellular device. Mind you, our fellow bus patrons might be frightened by our crude outbursts every time we accidentally take a short hop onto a long spike.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/05/20/prince-of-persia-retro-leaping-onto-app-store/">Prince of Persia Retro leaping onto App Store</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 20 May 2010 13:02:00 EST. When I think about it, Ubisoft really couldn't have chosen a more appropriate subtitle for the latest <em>Prince of Persia</em> outing, "The Forgotten Sands." It really does feel as if the game was in development years ago and perhaps shelved in favor of the dramatic series "reboot" in 2008 -- and then <em>forgotten</em>. <br />
<br />
Until, that is, a <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/11/02/prince-of-persia-movie-trailer-looks-kind-of-good/">movie based on the franchise</a> was due in theaters and happened to draw from the <em>Sands of Time</em> motif. <em>The Forgotten Sands </em>certainly isn't a movie game (aside from its conveniently timed release), but it hasn't sprung from a well of creativity, either.<br />

Here's the launch trailer for <a href="http://joystiq.com/tag/prince-of-persia-the-forgotten-sands"><em>Prince of Persia: The Forgotten Sands</em></a>. It's essentially a primer for anyone who has somehow missed the copious coverage of the game so far. Let's run down the bullet points, shall we?
<ul>
    <li>Platforming -- check!</li>
    <li>Puzzles -- got 'em!</li>
    <li>Combat -- yup.</li>
    <li>Elemental magic -- of course.</li>
    <li>Ancient, angry sand demon -- you'd better believe it!</li>
</ul>
For those that require something more substantial than this primer before leaping into the Prince's latest adventure, watch out for our <em>Forgotten Sands </em>review -- which we'll remember to post tomorrow afternoon.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/05/17/prince-of-persia-forgotten-sands-launch-trailer-covers-the-bases/">Prince of Persia Forgotten Sands launch trailer covers the bases</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Mon, 17 May 2010 17:04:00 EST. Excuse the pun, but we had nearly forgotten about the PSP version of <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/prince-of-persia-the-forgotten-sands"><em>Prince of Persia: The Forgotten Sands</em></a>. While Ubisoft has been busy promoting the PS3, Xbox 360 and Wii counterparts, it's only now that it has unveiled the PSP version. Joel Vignola, Ubisoft producer, debuted a new video on the <a href="http://blog.us.playstation.com/2010/05/13/prince-of-persia-the-forgotten-sands-built-specifically-for-psp/">PlayStation.Blog</a> (embedded after the break) and emphasized that the PSP version is a "unique game built from the ground up" and "is not a port from any other system."<br />
<br />
While the console versions are full 3D adventures, the PSP version appears to play on a 2D field, akin to <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/prince-of-persia-classic"><em>Prince of Persia Classic</em></a>. However, Vignola clarified a bit further, describing the game as a "3D sidescroller, because the world itself is 3D and we play with depth ... the Prince [is] not always locked onto an axis."<br />
<br />
As with <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/assassins-creed-bloodlines"><em>Assassin's Creed Bloodlines</em></a>, <em>The Forgotten Sands</em> is promising connectivity between the PS3 and PSP versions of the game. By connecting the two, you'll be awarded bonus XP in the PS3 version and the original <em>Sands of Time</em> costume for the PSP version. Hopefully, the similarities with the PSP <em>Assassin's Creed</em> end there -- <em>Bloodlines</em> wasn't exactly a <a href="http://www.metacritic.com/games/platforms/psp/assassinscreedbloodlines">critical darling</a>.<br />
<br />
The PSP version of <em>Prince of Persia: The Forgotten Sands</em> will be available on UMD and PSN on the same day as its console counterparts: May 18.<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/05/14/prince-of-persia-the-forgotten-sands-returns-to-2d-gameplay-on/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Prince of Persia: The Forgotten Sands returns to 2D gameplay on PSP</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/05/14/prince-of-persia-the-forgotten-sands-returns-to-2d-gameplay-on/">Prince of Persia: The Forgotten Sands returns to 2D gameplay on PSP</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Fri, 14 May 2010 19:00:00 EST. For all the vitriol we hurl at Wii shovelware and farming-centric Facebook games, we often forget the class of electronic entertainment most deserving of scorn: The Flash promotional game. No, not a game promoting The Flash (honestly, dude could use some love right now) but rather those diminutive, ugly trifles that litter official sites of movies and (in some cases) fast food restaurants.<br />
<br />
So understand that when we say, "<a href="http://prince-of-persia.us.ubi.com/games/game-01.php">This <em>Prince of Persia</em><em>: The Forgotten Sands</em> Flash game</a> is actually kind of good!" it comes from people who expect the worst from this particular breed. That said ... it <em>is</em> kind of good, right? In an overly complicated <em><a href="http://joystiq.com/tag/canabalt">Canabalt</a></em> sort of way?<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/05/12/prince-of-persia-flash-game-is-better-than-you-think/">Prince of Persia Flash game is better than you think</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 12 May 2010 17:00:00 EST. Whether you're a big fan of <em>Captain Planet</em>, or a proficient <em>Pok&eacute;mon</em> battler, or a secret lifetime member of the Illuminati, or you <a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8bF9X7qnWro"><em>really</em> love funk</a> -- you're probably familiar with the four main natural elements: Earth, Fire, Wind and Water. <a href="http://www.viddler.com/explore/Joystiq/videos/3361/">The latest trailer</a> for <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/prince-of-persia-the-forgotten-sands"><em>Prince of Persia: The Forgotten Sands</em></a> shows how each of these elements plays a part in combat and platforming. That includes the Prince's ability to dash through the air, or freeze and climb upon jets of water.<br />
<br />
Be warned -- we've watched it about seven times now, and we've yet to see any representation for the greatest element of all: Heart.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/05/12/prince-of-persia-the-forgotten-sands-trailer-has-some-good-ele/">Prince of Persia: The Forgotten Sands trailer has some good elements</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 12 May 2010 12:15:00 EST. Pre-rendered game trailers may not do a very good job of preparing us for actual gameplay, but it's hard to beat good CG for setting the mood. Case in point: The intro trailer to <a href="http://joystiq.com/tag/prince-of-persia-the-forgotten-sands"><em>Prince of Persia: The Forgotten Sands</em></a>. We've got the Prince, a mysterious woman, a massive battle, daring leaps and one of the faintest goatees in gaming history. See it all in the trailer above.<br />
<br />
<em>Prince of Persia: The Forgotten Sands</em> hits consoles on May 18 with a PC version to follow in June.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/05/08/dont-forget-to-watch-the-pop-forgotten-sands-intro/">Don't forget to watch the PoP: Forgotten Sands intro</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Sat, 08 May 2010 01:30:00 EST. That, ladies and gentlemen, is a lot of new Games on Demand. We've got three new ones this week and a price drop. As for the new titles, we've got a platformer, military shooter and hardcore skating simulation in <em>Prince of Persia</em>, <em>Brothers in Arms: Hell's Highway</em> and <em>Skate 2</em>, respectively. <em>Prince of Persia</em> and <em>Skate 2</em> each run $19.99 in the US, while <em>Brothers in Arms</em> will set you back $29.99. Meanwhile, Rockstar's <em>Table Tennis</em> has seen a 10 dollar price drop to $19.99. As always, pricing and availability vary by region.<br />

We've seen so many instances where the LEGO toy brand has infiltrated the world of video games over the past few years -- that's why it's so downright refreshing to see the tables get turned. Just past the jump is a commercial for <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/02/16/disney-and-lego-team-up-for-prince-of-persia-toys/">that new line of wonderbricks</a> based on the upcoming film adaptation of <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/prince-of-persia-movie"><em>Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time</em></a>. It's full of assassins, traps that are ready to spring on a teeny little Jake <strike>Gyllenhaal</strike> Gyllenblock, but, strangely, nary a trace of the slow-motion -- which is so prevalent in the film and games.<br />
<br />
Though your mind may immediately wander to the possibility of a <em>LEGO</em> video game based on Jordan Mechner's action-platforming franchise, we'd like to remind you that LEGO bricks are, in and of themselves, <em>completely rad</em>. LEGO bricks based on one of our favorite game series are doubly so.<br />

The Ubisoft Quebec-developed Wii game does have a few things in common with the PS3 and Xbox 360 <em>Forgotten Sands</em> game, as well. For example, they're both pretty! Ubisoft has worked some magic of its own to render such fine visuals on the Wii. All versions of <em><a href="http://joystiq.com/tag/prince-of-persia-forgotten-sands">Prince of Persia: The Forgotten Sands</a></em> are set for the same May 18 release date.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/04/14/prince-of-persia-trailer-reminds-us-that-wii-version-exists/">Prince of Persia: The Forgotten Sands trailer reminds us that Wii version exists</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 14 Apr 2010 15:29:00 EST. <div style="text-align: left;">Even with James Cameron's name attached to it, the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/avatar"><em>Avatar</em></a> video game simply wasn't good. While a few games (<em>Goldeneye</em>, <em>Chronicles of Riddick</em>) manage to escape the "movie game curse," most licensed games are plagued by mediocrity. Jerry Bruckheimer, producer of the upcoming <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/04/13/prince-of-persia-film-sneak-peek-reminds-us-of-our-bruck-love/"><em>Prince of Persia</em> movie</a>, explained to <a href="http://www.gamasutra.com/view/news/27965/Interview_Jerry_Bruckheimer_on_Game_Development_Prince_of_Persia_Why_Movie_Games_Fail.php">Gamasutra</a> that studios have "this business model where they know they'll sell X amount of games on that opening couple of weeks, and a lot of them do that, rather than take their time and create a wonderful game."</div>
<br />
While such a conclusion is probably obvious to the average Joystiq reader, it's vindicating to hear a high-profile producer admit to such industry shortcomings. Bruckheimer does offer a reasonable solution: release licensed games alongside their movie counterparts' home video releases to give them more development time. "As long as it's a good game, people will play it," concluded Bruckheimer.<br />
<br />
"The problem is, to really make a good game, it really takes a long time," explained Bruckheimer, whose <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/jerry-bruckheimer-games/">game studio</a> is taking its sweet time (to even announce a title). "So by the time you green-light a movie, it's a year to a year-and-a-half until it's out. That's too short a period for a video game to be made. It's a three-year process to get a really good game made, and that's where they fail."<br />
<br />
Incidentally, Ubisoft's <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/prince-of-persia-the-forgotten-sands/"><em>Prince of Persia: The Forgotten Sands</em></a>, which is tangentially related to Bruckheimer's film, will release ten days before the movie, following just about two years of development time.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/04/14/bruckheimer-explains-why-movie-games-fail/">Bruckheimer explains why movie games 'fail'</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 14 Apr 2010 14:01:00 EST. We say "fairly comprehensive" because only the bonuses associated with the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 versions of the game have been covered. <br />
<br />
Pre-ordering <em>Forgotten Sands</em> from <a href="http://www.gamestop.com/forgottensands">GameStop</a> will earn you the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/03/24/pop-the-forgotten-sands-getting-new-mode-with-gamestop-pre-orde/">previously revealed</a> "<a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/prince-of-persia-the-forgotten-sands-pre-order-bonuses/full/#2891285">Forgotten Arena</a>" gameplay mode. An <a href="http://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_sb_noss?url=search-alias%3Daps&amp;field-keywords=forgotten+sands&amp;x=0&amp;y=0">Amazon</a> pre-order will be $5 off and come with a free <em>Prince of Persia</em> mobile game. And <a href="http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage.jsp;jsessionid=98AA6F8479A5BE71972C01F3F1B9832A.bbolsp-app04-04?_dyncharset=ISO-8859-1&amp;_dynSessConf=-6529058566174399922&amp;id=pcat17071&amp;type=page&amp;st=prince+of+persia+forgotten+sands&amp;sc=Global&amp;cp=1&amp;nrp=15&amp;sp=&amp;qp=&amp;list=n&amp;iht=y&amp;usc=All+Categories&amp;ks=960">Best Buy</a> pre-orders will include a downloadable "SandWraith" character skin based on the Prince's transformation in <em>Prince of Persia: Warrior Within</em>.<br />
<br />
Ubisoft appears to have mistimed its jump with this announcement, however, as these offers have yet to appear on the Amazon or Best Buy product pages. Luckily, the company has possession of the Dagger of Time. Any second now ...<br />

Regardless of how unfaithful it might end up being to its ludological source material, or how cheesy its dialogue is, or how poorly its actors perform, it's difficult for us not to get substantially excited by the two <a href="http://www.viddler.com/explore/Joystiq/videos/3153/">behind-the-scenes previews</a> of <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/prince-of-persia-movie"><em>Prince of Persia</em><em>: The Sands of Time</em></a> we've posted above and after the jump. It looks to be, on all accounts, a Bruckheimer joint -- big, awesome and ... <em>uncerebral.</em> Like a big, clumsy elephant, riding a race car into a tornado made of swords. That's a spectacle we'll gladly drop $10.50 to witness once the film hits theaters May 28.<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/04/13/prince-of-persia-film-sneak-peek-reminds-us-of-our-bruck-love/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Prince of Persia film sneak peek reminds us of our Bruck-love</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/04/13/prince-of-persia-film-sneak-peek-reminds-us-of-our-bruck-love/">Prince of Persia film sneak peek reminds us of our Bruck-love</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 13 Apr 2010 13:30:00 EST. First and foremost, the trailer should do quite a bit to please fans hoping for a return to the days of <em>Sands of Time</em>. The whole trailer is highly reminiscent of the game that brought the Prince back to gaming way back in 2003, which is no coincidence. At PAX East, Ubisoft <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/03/31/interview-prince-of-persia-the-forgotten-sands-michael-mcinty/">told us</a> quite a bit about the ways that <em>Forgotten Sands</em> will return to the roots of the series, something we got to experience with our own <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/03/26/hands-on-prince-of-persia-the-forgotten-sands-360/">hands-on time with the title</a>. You can check out the platform-filled, trap-laden video above.<br />
<br />
In other news, the video also announced the Collector Edition of the game. The Xbox and PS3 editions will include the XBLA and PSN versions of <em>Prince of Persia Classic</em>, confirming a <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/02/17/rumor-the-forgotten-sands-may-include-prince-of-persia-classic/">rumor</a> that began floating around earlier this year. The PC version will include a copy of <em>Sands of Time</em>. The Collector Edition will also feature bonus in-game content, including a survival mode, sand wraith skin and Malik skin. It's worth pointing out that this is a European trailer for the game, so it's possible that the Collector Edition won't make it to other regions. We've contacted Ubisoft for more details -- including the price -- and will update this post with any new information.<br />

Positioned as a new sequel to fan favorite <em>Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time</em>, Ubisoft Montreal's <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/prince-of-persia-the-forgotten-sands">Prince of Persia: The Forgotten Sands</a></em> is a clear return to tradition. It diverges from 2008's <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/prince-of-persia">cel-shaded scurrier</a> in more ways than one: platforming is more difficult; the time rewind is back; and the adventure is entirely linear. Though the game <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/03/26/hands-on-prince-of-persia-the-forgotten-sands-360/">showed promise</a> at PAX East 2010, we couldn't help but ask Level Design Director Michael McIntyre what this familiar entry means for fans and the franchise.<br />
<br />
<strong>Joystiq: Prince of Persia: The Forgotten Sands -- how is that being positioned to fans of 2008's game? Is it an apology?<br />
</strong><br />
Michael McIntyre: Oh, not at all. Actually, this project was started before that game even released, so we had no idea how that game was going to be received. We knew that the PoP 2008 was a daring take on the Prince of Persia franchise. but we knew that there would be people that definitely liked it and we just weren't certain what fans of Sands of Time would take it, even though we knew it was quite different from Sands of Time. So, there was already an early plan to do a Sands of Time-type game, not at the same time but it was already in progress.<br />
