According to a post over at Nintendic, the odds of us getting this new game are pretty slim.<br /><br />That's not to say that Ubisoft doesn't want to bring the franchise back to the Wii, however. They're currently investigating how to bring <em>Prince of Persia</em> back to the console. Let's just hope they put a bit more into it than <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2006/12/18/prince-of-persia-gets-his-wii-on/">their last effort</a>, should it happen.<br /><br />[Via <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/05/05/next-prince-of-persia-will-never-be-ported-to-wii/">Joystiq</a>]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/05/06/new-prince-of-persia-not-coming-to-a-wii-near-you/">New Prince of Persia not coming to a Wii near you</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 06 May 2008 19:00:00 EST. <a href="http://www.trademork.com/prince-of-persia-prodigy/">Trademork</a> brings us word that Jordan Mechner, creator of wall-running time reverser, <em>Prince of Persia</em>, has filed to protect a new <a href="http://tarr.uspto.gov/servlet/tarr?regser=serial&amp;entry=77448101">trademark</a>. "Prince of Persia Prodigy" is now listed in relation to "game software and electronic game programs; electronic game software for mobile phones, personal digital assistants, and handheld computers." With <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/01/23/ubi-confirms-new-prince-of-persia-in-fiscal-08/">Ubisoft suggesting</a> that a new entry in the franchise is due to PoP up on modern consoles, one could speculate that "Prodigy" will serve as a subtitle to the royal acrobat's next adventure. One could also speculate that it implies a tie-in with the electropunk group of the same name, taking us back to the dark and angst-ridden tone of <em>Prince of Persia: Warrior Within</em>. That being the case, one should hope that <em>one</em> counts the number of people seriously considering such a project.<br /><br />A second paragraph of speculation might also draw a connection between the trademark and next year's "<a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/11/12/newell-prince-of-persia-not-a-video-game-movie/">not a video game movie</a>" adaptation of <em>Prince of Persia</em>. How could anybody resist <a href="http://youtube.com/watch?v=DsjDEZ9-9RU">a game</a> based on a movie based on a game?<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/04/22/prince-of-persia-prodigy-trademarked-by-jordan-mechner/">'Prince of Persia Prodigy' trademarked by Jordan Mechner</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 22 Apr 2008 10:57:00 EST. Though we yearn to say otherwise, Disney's <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/prince-of-persia">Prince of Persia</a>: Sands of Time </em>film hasn't shown to be particularly adept at running the gauntlet. Coupling mega producer Jerry Bruckheimer's <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/12/04/bruckheimer-might-change-prince-of-persia-time-period/">involvement</a> with director Mike Newell's promise (of having his <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/11/12/newell-prince-of-persia-not-a-video-game-movie/"><em>assistant</em> play through</a> the game) leads us to believe that the crew has fallen into the very first pit and succumbed to one of those spinning blade thingies.<br /><br />Still, we'd best give them a chance to finish shooting in Morocco this June, which <a href="http://www.variety.com/article/VR1117981952.html?categoryId=13&amp;cs=1"><em>Variety</em></a> notes will have a positive effect on the North African film business. Scenes for the Jeffrey Nachmanoff- and Jordan Mechner-written project will also be filmed at the UK's Pinewood Shepperton studios. Cross your fingers and hope for something more than a literal explosion of bullet-time sword fights, churlish chariot chases and liberal lingering on Farah's faucets.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/03/10/prince-of-persia-heads-to-morocco-for-film-shoot/">Prince of Persia heads to Morocco for film shoot</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Mon, 10 Mar 2008 22:00:00 EST. You should probably sit down, because we have some <em>shocking</em> news. Okay, everyone ready? Good. <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/Ubisoft/">Ubisoft</a> has <em>confirmed</em> the existence of a new <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/princeofpersia"><em>Prince of Persia</em></a>. We <em>know</em>, right? We never saw it coming either. Not in a million years. And yet, it's true. The game was mentioned in an Ubisoft <a href="http://www.ubisoftgroup.com/index.php?p=59&amp;art_id=60&amp;vars=Y29tX2lkPTUyNCZzZW5kZXI9TVAwMSZzZW5kZXJfdXJsPWluZGV4LnBocCUzRnAlM0QxNjQmZmlsdGVyX3R5cGU9JmZpbHRlcl9tb250aD0mZmlsdGVyX3llYXI9&amp;PHPSESSID=734d1dfed518bed355c7d763f45a15bc">financial release</a> alongside other games planned for their fiscal 2008, which begins this April. No further details were unveiled, even a vague release window. For instance, we don't know if the game will tie into the upcoming <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/06/08/watch-the-prince-of-persia-movie-on-10-july-2009/">film</a> expected in 2009 or if it will be part of the rumored <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/10/11/new-prince-of-persia-prequel-trilogy-on-the-way/">prequel trilogy</a>. Maybe our dreams of <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/assassins-creed">Altair</a> making a guest appearance will come true (historical accuracy be damned!).<br /><br />[Via <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/01/23/ubi-confirms-new-prince-of-persia-in-fiscal-08/">Joystiq</a>]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/01/23/new-prince-of-persia-is-official-for-fiscal-08/">New Prince of Persia is official for fiscal 08</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 23 Jan 2008 15:50:00 EST. If you're curious to know how <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/princeofpersia">Prince of Persia</a> </em>became a film, series creator and movie screenwriter Jordan Mechner spoke <a href="http://www.gamedaily.com/articles/features/jordan-mechner-jerry-bruckheimer-talk-prince-of-persia-movie/71338/?biz=1">with GameDaily</a> to talk about how he went about pitching the idea to Disney, who told him he needed a producer like Jerry Bruckheimer, and then how he took that to mean "pitch to Jerry Bruckheimer" and subsequently won him over. Mechner described writing the screenplay as a 21-month process (three months for first draft, 18 months of revisions), "not counting the 15 years of preparation before that," he said.<br /><br />Said Mechner about changes from the game's plot, "If I'd tried to adapt the game's storyline beat for beat into a screenplay, we would have wound up with a 'B'-level survival-horror movie about a warrior prince who spends most of his time fighting off ravaging, zombie-like sand creatures -- basically, <em>Resident Evil</em> in the desert." Did he just call the <em>Resident Evil</em> films B-level? <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/media/2008/01/oh-snap-chart-.jpg">Oh snap</a>!<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/01/18/prince-of-persia-creator-talks-film-adaptation-pitching-project/">Prince of Persia creator talks film adaptation, pitching project</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Fri, 18 Jan 2008 14:30:00 EST. Though it seems to still be in the pretty early stages, Bruckheimer says he sees a lot of possibilities for the franchise. One of the things still in flux, he says, is exactly what time period the film will be set in. Though he says it's not going to be in modern day, he won't rule anything else out.<br /><br />So, let's recap what we know so far: Director Mike Newell <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/11/12/newell-prince-of-persia-not-a-video-game-movie/">isn't playing the game</a> and isn't making a 'videogame movie.' Meanwhile, the movie could be set in any period since the beginning of time. Does anybody else smell a hit? Sprinkling logic crumbs throughout the investigation and frequently bending reality to ensure those pesky crooks get captured, the behind-the-scenes scribes are the ones doing the real dirty work. Witness the investigative team of NBC "<a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Life_%28US_TV_series%29">Life</a>" being given a <a href="http://news.filefront.com/the-tv-show-life-prince-of-persia-painful-viewing/">bona fide boon</a> in the improbable decision of a drug dealer to hide incriminating files <em>inside his console</em>, which we're helpfully informed is "just a hard drive with games on it." Accessing the evidence requires an embarrassing plot device yanked straight from the zeitgeist: The detectives must dramatically reach "Level 10" in <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/Ubisoft/">Ubisoft</a>'s <em>Prince of Persia: The Two Thrones</em>, preferably with the aid of a stealth gurrrl gamer.<br /><br />[Thanks, Hashbrown_Hunter]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/11/13/nbcs-life-investigates-prince-of-persia/">NBC's 'Life' investigates Prince of Persia</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 13 Nov 2007 13:46:00 EST. Mike Newell had only been <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/11/08/harry-potter-director-offered-prince-of-persia-reigns/">at the helm</a> of the upcoming <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/PrinceofPersia/">Prince of Persia</a></em> movie for five days when he started insisting that it was a great story first, and a video game movie .. well, not at all. "It's not a video game movie," Newell told Rotten Tomatoes. "It's a great story. If you had read the script, you would know that it wasn't a video game. It's very exciting and it's immensely romantic and it's like <em>Lost Horizon</em>. It takes you to somewhere you've never been." <br /><br />Sure, that doesn't fill us with loads of confidence, but if you consider the "video game movie" canon, we can't blame him for wanting to distance his film from that pile of wickedness. Besides, if you're worried about him staying true to the series, Rotten Tomatoes reports he "has an assistant playing the video games to brief him on key details" ... so you're completely justified in your concern. Well done.<br /><br />[Thanks, Hashbrown_Hunter]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/11/12/newell-prince-of-persia-not-a-video-game-movie/">Newell: Prince of Persia 'not a video game movie'</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Mon, 12 Nov 2007 10:05:00 EST. Variety reports that mega-producer Jerry Bruckheimer has offered director duties for <em>Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time</em> to Mike Newell. Although Newell directed <em>Four Weddings and a Funeral</em> and <em>Donnie Brasco</em>, we're guessing <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/JerryBruckheimer/">Bruckheimer</a> is <a href="http://www.variety.com/article/VR1117975541.html?categoryId=1079&amp;cs=1">tapping</a> Newell because of his work with <em>Harry Potter and The Goblet of Fire</em>. Newell is currently meeting with Disney studio execs this week and an announcement will probably be made shortly thereafter.<br /><br />The script for <em>Prince of Persia</em> was written by Jeffrey Nachmanoff (<em>The Day After Tomorrow</em>) and PoP creator Jordan Mechner. All we can say at this point is this movie is sounding like a popcorn munching friendly theater experience.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/11/08/harry-potter-director-offered-prince-of-persia-reigns/">Harry Potter director offered Prince of Persia movie reins</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 08 Nov 2007 14:30:00 EST. Dubbed <em>Prince of Persia: Ghosts of the Past</em>, the title is supposedly headed in a more fantasy-like direction, ditching the dark material of the last two titles in the trilogy. After the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/10/05/its-official-bungie-branches-off-from-microsoft/">Bungie/Microsoft split debacle</a>, we're not going to discount anything out of hand, which is why we're bringing you this news of a rumored <em>Prince of Persia</em> prequel trilogy first reported by a blog called, and we're not making this up, "Surfer Girl Reviews Star Wars."<br /><br />According to the site, which has displayed a couple of early images from the alleged game, <em>Prince of Persia 4/0/Ghosts of the Past</em> is supposed to be released in the latter half of next year. According to the author, "stylistically and gameplay-wise, the game has abandoned the dark edginess of the last two titles in favor a fantastical cross between <em>The Sands of Time</em>, <em>Ico</em> and <em>Zelda</em>." ... Wow. Now we really hope it's true.<br /><br />[Via <a href="http://www.gamespot.com/news/show_blog_entry.php?topic_id=25970758&amp;part=rss&amp;tag=gs_news&amp;subj=6180664">Gamespot</a>]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/10/11/rumor-prince-of-persia-prequel-trilogy-incoming/">Rumor: Prince of Persia prequel trilogy incoming</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 11 Oct 2007 15:59:00 EST. ShackNews <a href="http://www.shacknews.com/onearticle.x/48749">leads us</a> to free ad-supported PC games for this lazy holiday in the US. You'll be able to play full versions of <span style="font-style: italic;">FarCry, Raving Rabbids, Prince of Persia: Sands of Time</span> and <span style="font-style: italic;">Ghost Recon</span>, though you'll need a US Ubi.com account to install the games. We aren't aware if the ads are just in loading screens, or if you'll find empty McDonald's fry boxes washed up on <em>FarCry</em>'s pristine shores. Here are the links:<br />

You play the role of Faith who <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2005/06/29/anyone-up-for-some-parkour/">climbs, sprints, and leaps</a> around a utopian metropolis fighting the corrupt authoritarians in power. <br /><br />The main character's moves were inspired by <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Parkour">parkour</a> and have been kept deliberately simple. <em>Mirror's Edge</em> aims to give players a better sense of being in a body, forcing you to pay attention to things like acceleration and the way your head moves as you walk or come to an abrupt stop.<br /><br />While the game will be packed with action, don't expect shooting to be the central focus, as realistic physics play a huge role in the gameplay. <div align="left">Jordan Mechner hosted a panel about talent (mostly writers and actors) crossing the "digital divide" between film and TV and video games. Sadly, they didn't drop any information about the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/03/01/behold-concept-art-for-the-prince-of-persia-movie/"><span style="font-style: italic;">Prince of Persia</span></a> movie. For the most part, the panel covered familiar and expected territory. Yuri Lowenthal, voice of the Prince in several <span style="font-style: italic;">Prince of Persia</span> games, said that the crossover is fairly easy for actors, although he would like for the actors to be more involved in the development process, if possible.<br /><br />Writer Flint Diller (The Transformers Game, Dead to Rights, and several more) said that as far as writers are concerned, you have to have a sense of humor going in with the underlying knowledge that,"This is gonna be a long, bumpy ride." He also said that you can't compare it to screenwriting, and if you try you'll find yourself very disappointed.</div>

The top three remained unchanged, with <em>Guitar Hero II</em> moving into fourth, pushing the <em>Shadowrun</em> demo down. One of the other demos from last week, <em>Tenchu Z </em>remains in the same spot, and the Arcade game, <em>Prince of Persia</em> actually moved up to eighth. Also, though its demo has been on the list for the past week, the retail version of <em>Shadowrun</em> has made it on the top ten list, and will hopefully continue to climb. Full breakdown of the list after the break.<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/06/25/live-top-ten-shadow-runs-fast/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Live Top Ten: Shadow runs fast</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/06/25/live-top-ten-shadow-runs-fast/">Live Top Ten: Shadow runs fast</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Mon, 25 Jun 2007 07:30:00 EST. The <a href="http://www.legendarypictures.com/index.php">official website</a> of film production company Legendary Pictures has recently been updated to reflect a <em>Diablo</em> movie entering development alongside the <a href="http://www.blizzard.com/press/060509.shtml">previously announced</a> <em>World of Warcraft</em> film. As far as <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/06/08/watch-the-prince-of-persia-movie-on-10-july-2009/">game-to-film adaptations</a> go, Blizzard's demonic role-player probably represents one of the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/02/08/sony-pictures-producing-metal-gear-solid-movie/">better properties</a> to mine, certainly ranking above <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/05/25/the-sims-coming-to-the-big-screen-logic-be-damned/"><em>The Sims</em></a> and <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/06/18/dead-or-alive-movie-dead-on-arrival/"><em>Dead or Alive</em></a>. Examining the group's lineup of completed films, which includes <em>Batman Begins</em> and <em>300</em>, vaguely instills some confidence in this adaptation, but we think you'll find the hands of movie executives usually have a way of <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/uweboll">wringing that out of you</a>.<br /><br />No other information about the <em>Diablo</em> film has been disclosed, though it seems a fair guess that it'll have the eponymous villain attempting to wreck the world, only to be foiled by a floating arrow constantly jabbing at his head. Blizzard was unavailable for comment at the time of writing -- presumably off shoving large jewels into their skulls.<br /><br />[Via <a href="http://www.comingsoon.net/news/movienews.php?id=21095">ComingSoon.net</a>]<br /><br />[<strong>Update: </strong>The <em>Diablo</em> listing has since been removed from the Legendary Pictures website.]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/06/18/legendary-pictures-producing-diablo-film/">Legendary Pictures producing Diablo film [update]</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Mon, 18 Jun 2007 13:57:00 EST. This week's live top ten has a third of the list <a href="http://www.majornelson.com/archive/2007/06/16/live-activity-for-week-of-6-11.aspx">devoted</a> to digitally distributed demonstration content. Of those demos, <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/shadowrun">Shadowrun</a></em> came all the way in fourth, with <em>Tenchu Z</em> down in 7th, and the <em>Overlord</em> demo rounding out the list in tenth. Without the <em><a href="http://xbox360fanboy.com/tag/h3beta07">Halo 3 Beta</a></em> there to hog the list, <em>Forza</em> moved up all the way to second, behind <em>Gears of War.</em> <em>Crackdown</em> proved it had some staying power without the help of the aforementioned beta, as it maintained the middle ground at fifth. Also, <em>Prince of Persia</em> managed to make the list at ninth. Speaking of the list, you can find that after the break. Enjoy.<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/06/18/live-top-ten-demolicious/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Live Top Ten: Demolicious</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/06/18/live-top-ten-demolicious/">Live Top Ten: Demolicious</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Mon, 18 Jun 2007 10:15:00 EST. Spruced up with new moves, new enemies, and speedier gameplay, the classic title is reborn for a new generation of gamers. Old school gamers have nothing to worry about though, it essentially the same game with a few minor tweaks. Even the one hour time limit is still in effect. Since we know that Time <em>is not</em> like a river that flows swift and sure in one direction, you'll no doubt appreciate this <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/06/06/this-wednesday-prince-of-persia-pops-onto-xbla/">reminder</a> that <em>Prince of Persia Classic</em> -- the re-imagining of the platforming classic -- is hitting Xbox Live Arcade this week as evidenced by this handy <a href="http://gamerscoreblog.com/team/archive/2007/06/11/551123.aspx">media alert</a>. While Ubisoft's earlier confirmation didn't mention how many Billy Bucks the Prince would demand, Microsoft had no such compunction clearly stating the title will cost a not unsuspected 800 MS Points (<a href="http://www.mspconverter.com/results.php?MSP=800&amp;conversion=Convert">$10</a>). Oh, and the hardest achievement? Finishing the game without dying. If you've played <em>Prince of Persia</em>, you oughta know better than to even try. If you haven't, let me tell you a tale like none you have ever heard ...<br />

While Ubisoft may have spilled the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/06/06/ubisoft-prince-of-persia-on-xbla-next-week/">beans</a> in regards to <em>Prince of Persia Classic</em>'s releasing this Wednesday, Microsoft has caught up and officially confirmed that announcement, as well as price point. The updated title, with its snazzy new mazes, traps and <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/05/15/prince-of-persia-classic-looking-snazzy/">graphical enhancements</a>, is going to run you 800 Microsoft Points. We suppose that could have been expected, but it still may turn a few off from the title. We'll have to wait and see if the demo pulls us in, nostalgic memories notwithstanding. What's your take on the game and price?<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/06/11/prince-of-persia-classic-hits-xbla-this-wednesday/">Prince of Persia Classic hits XBLA this Wednesday</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Mon, 11 Jun 2007 12:30:00 EST. You know, if you have <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/06/06/this-wednesday-prince-of-persia-pops-onto-xbla/">nothing else to do</a>. According to <a href="http://www.comingsoon.net/news/movienews.php?id=20886">ComingSoon.net</a>, Disney has already scheduled a release date for its game-to-something-vaguely-adhering-to-the-characteristics-of-cinema adaptation, <em>Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time</em>. Arriving on July 10th, 2009, the film will presumably spring from the world established by Ubisoft's modern <em>Prince of Persia</em> trilogy and then be run through the standard movie exec alteration gauntlet. <br /><br />Not much is known about the film, save for its alleged incorporation of <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/06/01/prince-of-persia-film-to-feature-parkour-says-early-script-revi/">Parkour</a> and its involvement with Jerry "Needs More Splosions" Bruckheimer. <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/04/16/disney-wants-michael-bay-for-prince-of-persia-film/">Michael Bay</a>'s directorial sledgehammer has been eyed for the film, but no official announcement on the subject has been made. There's a feint chance of the film turning into a charming and boisterous adventure along the lines of <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/02/22/prince-of-persia-could-be-disneys-next-pirates-film-franchise/"><em>Pirates of the Caribbean</em></a>, but the realistic expectation is to leave the cinema complaining about the abundance of car chases and Eva Mendez's poor rendition of "Look, a crack!"<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/06/08/watch-the-prince-of-persia-movie-on-10-july-2009/">Watch the Prince of Persia movie on 10 July, 2009</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Fri, 08 Jun 2007 19:10:00 EST. Developed by Gameloft, the game is a remake of the original <em>Prince of Persia</em> featuring completely revamped graphics. In addition to the graphical upgrade, the game will feature new traps, enemies, and puzzles that expand on the traditional gameplay. The original <em>Prince of Persia</em> tasked players with clearing the game in one hour. We have to wonder if the new Xbox Live Arcade port will have the same restriction. At any rate, what we've seen so far looks promising. Assuming <em>Prince of Persia</em> comes out at a decent price, are you planning on picking it up?<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/06/06/ubisoft-prince-of-persia-on-xbla-next-week/">Ubisoft: Prince of Persia on XBLA next week</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 06 Jun 2007 15:00:00 EST. Ubisoft has <a href="http://www.eurogamer.net/article.php?article_id=77416">told</a> Eurogamer that June 13th's <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/xbla">Xbox Live Arcade</a> release will indeed be the revered and now revitalized royalty of platformers, <em>Prince of Persia Classic</em>. First <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/04/13/prince-of-persia-rated-by-germans-for-xbla/">glimpsed</a> in April, the game looks to be a beautiful remake of the first landmark adventure, taking place well before all those "time is an ocean in a storm" <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/princeofpersia">shenanigans</a>. As such, you should expect to swig potions, swing swords and plummet down extraordinarily deep chasms on a frequent basis as you attempt to rescue the Princess of Persia... or Posture, by the looks of it. <br /><br />No announcement regarding the price has been made, but 800 MS points ($10) would be a fair guess. Funnily enough, the game's value is inversely proportional to your platforming prowess. Perhaps it's best you don't finish the adventure within the traditional one hour time limit. You might remember seeing it in the French action flick <em>District B13</em> or <em>Casino Royale</em>. It also fits really well given the Prince's acrobatic nature.<br /><br />The <em>Prince of Persia</em> film is being developed by Disney and Jerry Bruckheimer, who managed to take a theme park ride and turn it into one of the highest grossing movie trilogies of all time. Can they work the same magic with a video game adaptation? With <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/04/16/disney-wants-michael-bay-for-prince-of-persia-film/">Michael Bay</a>? Those of you out there expecting a be-turbaned hero may be disappointed, as the game uses the Prince as he was in <em>Sands of Time</em>. The entire game gets a graphical overhaul and honestly it looks pretty good. It also looks like the game has been streamlined somewhat to speed up gameplay. The pacing of the original <em>Prince of Persia</em> was a tad slow, so this may not be a bad thing. For the XBLA release of <em>Prince of Persia Classic</em>, expected in early summer, Gameloft and Ubisoft have slapped a beautiful fresh coat of paint on the classic 1989 title. That may not make the purists so mad as the prince ditched his <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/04/13/prince-of-persia-rated-by-germans-for-xbla/">classic turban</a> for his <em>Sands of Time </em>look. Yup, <em>Prince of Persia Classic</em> has the prince in his post-turban, but <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2006/10/23/worst-worst-games-ever-list-ever/">pre-emo</a> (<em>Warrior Within</em>) look, so at least there's some consolation.<br /><br />Allegedly everything else but the graphics will remain the same including level design, combat and -- oh gawd help us -- controls. For the youngin' in the room who never played the original, you haven't experienced pain until you've tried tackling the original <em>Prince of Persia</em>'s unforgiving controls. Yes, it is truly painful, more painful than every time the faux-metal music played in <em>Warrior Within</em>. Still can't figure out what they were thinking there -- but it sold well!<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/05/14/prince-of-persia-classic-on-xbla-what-no-turban/">Prince of Persia Classic on XBLA, what? The German Unterhaltungssoftware Selbstkontrolle (USK) ratings board recently <a href="http://www.usk.de/64_Pruefdatenbank.htm?s=search&amp;title=prince+of+persia&amp;s.x=0&amp;s.y=0&amp;s=search">tested</a> a game called <em>Prince of Persia Classic</em> -- it received a +12 years of age rating. The Germans were being kind giving it that rating considering the difficulty level of the original game; they're sparing young gamers a lot of grief. Players who are old enough -- or unlocked this classic in their copy of <em>Prince of Persia: Sands of Time --</em> know what we're talking about.<br /><br />We wait to see when the American ESRB rates the game to confirm that it's not some kind of Europe-only XBLA exclusive. Having the original <em>Prince of Persia</em> on XBLA will show those young whippersnappers how good and easy they've had it since the <em>Sands of Time</em>.<br /><br />[Via <a href="http://www.xbox360fanboy.com/2007/04/12/original-price-of-persia-on-xbla/">Xbox 360 Fanboy</a>]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/04/13/prince-of-persia-rated-by-germans-for-xbla/">Prince of Persia rated by Germans for XBLA</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Fri, 13 Apr 2007 03:00:00 EST. This time it's <em>Prince of Persia Classic</em>. According to the German Unterhaltungssoftware Selbstkontrolle (<a href="http://www.usk.de/64_Pruefdatenbank.htm?s=search&amp;title=prince+of+persia+classic&amp;s.x=0&amp;s.y=0&amp;s=search">USK</a>) ratings board, the game was tested yesterday. The original <em>Prince of Persia</em> is a legitimate classic that would jive just fine with Xbox Live Arcade, providing plenty of platforming challenges and decent combat. Of course, if you own <em>Sands of Time</em> then you can already play the original <em>Prince of Persia</em> hidden within the game. Then again, that won't net you any achievements. <br /><br />At any rate, <em>Prince of Persia</em> is a great game and would be a welcome addition to the Live Arcade library.<br /><br />[Via <a href="http://www.xblarcade.com/node/518">XBLArcade</a>]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/04/12/original-price-of-persia-on-xbla/">Original Prince of Persia on XBLA?</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 12 Apr 2007 13:30:00 EST. The listing was taken down almost immediately, but for a few minutes there was on the website the new <em>Prince of Persia</em> game and its supposed subtitle. Tentatively dubbed "<em>Ghost of the Past</em>" (so you get the glimpse of the future reference now?), the new title raises a few questions about the game.<br /><br />First and foremost -- what's the past being referred to? A lot of people will think "oh, it's a prequel" or "oh, an old boss/enemy will come back". We're going to take a slightly different stance. The next game will take place in the future -- not <em>future</em> future, but a while after the events of the Prince trilogy. The ghost is the old prince himself -- his actions from the past, namely changing the present/future, will come into play with the new character. His environments will change in semi-real time as the prince of old keeps screwing around with time. Make sense? If that's not the case, then damn it all, we should patent that idea because it could rock our socks off.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/03/28/rumor-next-prince-of-persia-title-was-named-briefly/">RUMOR: Next Prince of Persia title was named, briefly</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 28 Mar 2007 14:00:00 EST. <br />We haven't heard much about the upcoming PSP version of <em>Prince of Persia: Rival Swords</em>. Based on <em>The Two Thrones</em>, the PSP version promises exclusive content, featured in this new video. The footage looks somewhat disappointing, especially graphically: the PSP can certainly do better than this! Considering how the Prince's last foray on Sony's platform was met with general <a href="http://www.metacritic.com/games/platforms/psp/princeofpersiarevelations">disdain from critics</a>, this newest video doesn't inspire too much confidence.<br /><br /><em>Rival Swords</em> hits the PSP <a href="http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000GJ0J2Y/002-1104547-5152840?ie=UTF8&amp;tag=prey0f&amp;linkCode=xm2&amp;camp=1789&amp;creativeASIN=B000GJ0J2Y">later this month</a>.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/03/07/prince-of-persia-rewinds-tries-again-on-psp/">Prince of Persia rewinds, tries again on PSP</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 07 Mar 2007 02:00:00 EST. Since the <em>Two Thrones</em> wrapped up the previous storyline, this will be an all new start for the Prince. The image itself comes from Xbox World 360 magazine's recent preview, which suggests that the gauntlet that the Prince is donning could come into play in the game. Whether it does or not, it still looks a lot like Hellboy's <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hellboy#The_Right_Hand_of_Doom">Right Hand of Doom</a>. But on the left hand, as Prince appears to have a dagger (of time?) in his right. What would you like in a 360 <em>Prince of Persia</em> game?<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/03/02/new-gen-prince-of-persia-art/">New gen Prince of Persia art</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Fri, 02 Mar 2007 12:45:00 EST. One of the movies, however, signifies the reverse situation of having been a game first -- a <em>very</em> good one, in fact. The <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/02/22/prince-of-persia-could-be-disneys-next-pirates-film-franchise/">cinematic adaptation</a> of Ubisoft's acrobatically inclined <em>Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time</em>, will be produced by Jerry "Needs More Splosions" Bruckheimer. <br /><br />Check out some of the early concept images of the film while you agonize over the many ways in which Jerry can bring the franchise to ruin. Vin Diesel as the Prince? Explosive carriage chases? A soundtrack featuring Usher? A dark and angsty MySpace reimagining that has the protagonist fighting scantily clad warrior women? Wait, that last one sounds familiar somehow...<br /><br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/prince-of-persia-the-sands-of-time/">Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/prince-of-persia-the-sands-of-time/#171863"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2007/03/prince_of_persia_movie_c3_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/prince-of-persia-the-sands-of-time/#171862"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2007/03/prince_of_persia_movie_c2_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/prince-of-persia-the-sands-of-time/#171861"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2007/03/prince_of_persia_movie_c1_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/prince-of-persia-the-sands-of-time/#171859"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2007/03/prince_of_persia_movie_c4_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><br /><br />[Image credit: <a href="http://www.comingsoon.net/news/movienews.php?id=19143">ComingSoon</a>]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/03/01/behold-concept-art-for-the-prince-of-persia-movie/">Behold: concept art for the Prince of Persia movie</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 01 Mar 2007 21:45:00 EST. Apparently, an Ubisoft leak <a href="http://www.gamesradar.com/gb/xbox360/game/previews/article.jsp?articleId=20070220172858392084&amp;sectionId=1001&amp;releaseId=20070222121313745032">distributed a piece of concept art</a> on the next-gen <em>Prince of Persia</em> adventure and it looks like a return to the middle-eastern roots of, uh, Persia. We guess.<br /><br />There's an armored gauntlet involved (which will probably act a bit like Nero's gauntlet in <em>Devil May Cry 4</em>) and a new love interest who, as GamesRadar puts it, "look(s) somewhere in the region of rather foxy." We know there's a film planned or in production or whatever, so maybe this game is really based off of that movie? The film doesn't draw from previous titles, rather, uses the franchise as a base to create an all-new story. It makes sense, but we'll keep an eye out for any more information.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/02/27/rumor-prince-of-persia-concept-art-leaked/">RUMOR: Prince of Persia concept art leaked</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 27 Feb 2007 11:00:00 EST. One <a target="_blank" href="http://jimhillmedia.com/blogs/jim_hill/archive/2007/02/22/thursday-s-article.aspx">source</a> even speculates that the Prince could hit the big screen as early as summer 2008.<br /><br />When Bruckheimer and company first seized the <em>Prince of Persia</em> film rights <a target="_blank" href="http://johnaugust.com/archives/2004/prince-of-persia-announced">in 2004</a>, the goal was to adapt elements of the game world, rather than directly translate 2003's <em>The Sands of Time</em>. It's unclear if that direction has since changed, as the game series has evolved into a port-able trilogy.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/02/22/prince-of-persia-could-be-disneys-next-pirates-film-franchise/">Prince of Persia could be Disney's next 'Pirates' film franchise</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 22 Feb 2007 23:24:00 EST. The trailer comes in at about a minute long and has <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/ubisoft">Ubisoft</a> Producer Ben Maddis (could be a misspelling of his name, we're going from audio) showing us the subtle differences between the speed killing controls for both the Dark Prince and regular Prince. From the looks of it, not much has changed in transitioning over to the Wii, aside from the controls.<br /><br />You can check out the trailer <a href="http://wii.advancedmn.com/article.php?artid=8888">here</a>.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/02/20/new-rival-swords-trailer-takes-us-through-speed-killing/">New Rival Swords trailer takes us through speed killing</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 20 Feb 2007 15:25:00 EST.
