Spartans are supposed to do "Legendary" things. But apparently this wannabe Spartan stuntman went for the easy setting. Jet-packing over Trafalgar Square without a single plasma shot fired at you? Weak.<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/09/13/halo-reach-promo-stunt-has-spartan-flying-over-trafalgar-square/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Halo: Reach promo stunt has Spartan flying over Trafalgar Square</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/09/13/halo-reach-promo-stunt-has-spartan-flying-over-trafalgar-square/">Halo: Reach promo stunt has Spartan flying over Trafalgar Square</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Mon, 13 Sep 2010 16:10:00 EST. It was a wonderful time for America and an even more wonderful time for video games, which would, in a few years, emerge as <em>the most important thing ever</em>. But, back in 1981, <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/activision">Activision</a>, a young scrapper in a booming industry who would one day become champion of the video game world (after defeating Apollo Creed, of course), created a now-hilarious video as a means to market the company and its products -- and that's probably the best part of this little spiel: the products. <br />
<br />
Peppered throughout <a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YrFgIIAdtSE&amp;NR=1">the video</a> are brief commercials for some of the company's games, including <em>Kaboom!</em>, <em>Stampede</em> and <em>Ice Hockey</em> -- ads very different from how Activision would market something like, say, <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/call-of-duty-black-ops"><em>Call of Duty: Black Ops</em></a>, today. <em>Man</em>, remember when you could just go and call a game <em>Ice Hockey</em>? The times, they've done changed!<br />

Got <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/skate-3"><em>Skate 3</em></a>? Want to bust kickflips as everyone's favorite outer space engineer, Isaac Clarke? By inputting the code "deadspacetoo" into the Cheats area under the Extras section, you'll unlock the <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/dead-space">Dead Space</a> </em>protagonist for use in Free Play mode. Who knew he could be so nimble in that outfit?<br />
<br />
Keen observers may notice Clarke riding <a href="http://www.facebook.com/album.php?aid=167221&amp;id=18523496658&amp;ref=mf#!/photo.php?pid=4230455&amp;id=18523496658">on a futuristic board</a>. That's because, by inputting the code, you'll also gain the new deck. Sorry, it's non-transferable between skaters -- we tried.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/05/22/dead-spaces-isaac-clarke-playable-in-skate-3/">Dead Space's Isaac Clarke playable in Skate 3</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Sat, 22 May 2010 05:30:00 EST. Microsoft has announced <a href="http://www.xbox.com/en-US/community/events/blockparty/offer.htm">more details</a> about its Xbox Live Arcade "<a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/block-party">Block Party</a>," which is ... right around the corner. Next month's lead-up to the launch of the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/xbox-game-room">Xbox Game Room</a> will see a promotion similar to <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/07/29/microsoft-will-give-you-10-for-spending-70-on-xbox-live/">the one offered</a> during last year's <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/summer-of-arcade">Summer of Arcade</a>, <em>and then some</em>. <br />
<br />
For Xbox Live Silver members that purchase all three Block Party titles released next month -- <em>Toy Soldiers</em>, <em>Perfect Dark</em> and <em>Scrap Metal </em>-- and then download the free Game Room "client," Microsoft will credit your account 400<img border="0" src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.xbox360fanboy.com/media/2007/11/microsoftpointslogosmall.gif" alt="" /> ($5). So, 3200<img border="0" src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.xbox360fanboy.com/media/2007/11/microsoftpointslogosmall.gif" alt="" /> ($40) spent on the participating XBLA titles will get you back five bucks. If you're a Gold member, though, the deal gets a little sweeter: Purchase the three titles, download Game Room, and you'll get the 400<img border="0" src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.xbox360fanboy.com/media/2007/11/microsoftpointslogosmall.gif" alt="" /> refund <em>and </em>a free month of Xbox Live Gold service (worth $4 and change if you're an annual subscriber) credited to your account.<br />
<br />
A free "everyone's a Gold member" (no, not <a href="http://www.imdb.com/media/rm3541211136/tt0295178"><em>that</em></a> Goldmember) weekend is also scheduled, permitting Silver members to play the three Block Party releases online (but <em>only </em>the Block Party releases) from 12pm ET on Friday, March 26 through 12pm ET on Monday, March 29.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/02/22/stay-for-the-entire-xbla-block-party-and-receive-parting-gifts/">Stay for the entire XBLA Block Party and receive parting gifts</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Mon, 22 Feb 2010 22:00:00 EST. Got yourself a copy of <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/darksiders"><em>Darksiders</em></a> but, for whatever reason (admit it, you lost it), don't have the slip of paper it came with containing the "<a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/02/12/darksiders-hidden-code-reveals-free-copy-of-red-faction-guerril/">mystery code</a>" redeemable for a free copy of <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/red-faction-guerilla">Red Faction Guerrilla</a> </em>and digital art book? Seems you're not out of luck -- unless you bought it second-hand (or "pre-played," if you will).<br />
<br />
Vigil has announced via its <a href="http://community.darksiders.com/blog-post/codeless-are-not-forgotten">official <em>Darksiders</em> blog</a> that those without codes, but who purchased the game new can still get the free <em>RFG</em> and disc full o' artwork. It's a little more work than simply clicking a link and typing in a code, but, hey, <em>free is free</em>. Those who want in on the promotion must fill out a form, provide "your original purchase receipt of a NEW copy of <em>Darksiders</em>," the barcode from the cover insert and, like everything else, pay shipping and "handling" (we never quite got what that is, exactly).<br />
<br />
You have until March 7 to get in on the promotion, whatever your situation may be.<br />
<br />
[Thanks, NBA Kirkland]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/02/18/darksiders-free-red-faction-promo-open-to-those-without-codes-b/">Darksiders' free Red Faction promo open to anyone who bought it new, no code required</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 18 Feb 2010 16:30:00 EST. The <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/07/14/nintendo-to-transform-times-square-into-real-life-wii-sports-res/">event in Times Square</a> is just the beginning and marks the start of a nationwide tour that will see Nintendo attending various fairs and festivals throughout the rest of summer. For the full list of where and when Nintendo will be making stops, head past the break.<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/07/23/nintendo-hits-the-road-to-promote-wii-sports-resort/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Nintendo hits the road to promote Wii Sports Resort</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/07/23/nintendo-hits-the-road-to-promote-wii-sports-resort/">Nintendo hits the road to promote Wii Sports Resort</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 23 Jul 2009 16:15:00 EST. In all of our time playing <em>Halo</em> online (68,873 combined hours, to be exact), we've encountered numerous people who say they are females, but we know the truth: girls don't play games ... <em>ever</em>. Also, they have cooties. Our world has been flipped upside down, though, thanks to south Londoner Amanda Johnstone. She apparently likes <em>Halo Wars</em> -- a lot. <br /><br />Amanda loves the game so much that she doesn't mind having 5 of <em>the same</em> poster on her wall. She's that into it. Pay no mind to the fact that the game comes out in the UK next week. This isn't a promotional thing. Amanda actually owns 8 <em>Halo Wars</em> cups and sits around in her short-shorts and <em>Halo Wars</em> tanktop <em>all the time</em>. It's a way of life for her.<br /><br /><a href="http://www.ukresistance.co.uk/2009/02/uks-hottest-halo-fan.html">Source</a> (<strong>NSFW</strong>) - UK Resistance<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/02/20/uk-woman-is-most-definitely-absolutely-the-1-halo-wars-fan/">UK woman is most definitely, absolutely the #1 Halo Wars fan -- 100 percent confirmed!</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Fri, 20 Feb 2009 15:00:00 EST. Our best guess is that the footage on the DVD is things you've already seen (here at Wii Fanboy, we hope), so if you're intending on picking it up and catching something new to watch to hold you over until the bundle is released, then perhaps that might not be the best plan in the world.<br /><br />Instead, we suggest you approach this as an opportunity to show it off to someone in your life who doesn't know what the 411 is. Show the game off to your mom, your English teacher or simply get a bunch of the DVDs and throw them around like ninja stars. That used to be fun with those AOL 3.0 CDs back in the day.<br /><br /><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/04/30/gamestop-offering-free-wii-fit-promo-dvds/">GameStop offering free Wii Fit promo DVDs</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 30 Apr 2008 13:30:00 EST. Isn't Nintendo just so thoughtful? They're always looking out for gamers, especially the ones that review their products. That's why they've sent out these official <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/wii-fit/">Wii Fit</a> socks as a promotional item along with the game<span style="font-style: italic;"></span>, protecting reviewers from others' <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/balance-board">Balance Board</a>-infecting foot fungi. I'm sure the people who got this promotional extra were happy to have a defense against diseases like athlete's foot aside from, uh, wearing their own socks.<br /><br />It's a shame that these bad boys aren't for sale, though. Now, you won't get to be the <strike>cool</strike> totally geeky kid on the block who owns his or her own pair of <span style="font-style: italic;">Wii Fit</span> socks.<br /><br />[Via <a href="http://www.gemaga.com/2008/04/01/look-out-here-comes-the-wii-fit-attire-wii-fit-socks">Gemaga</a>]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/04/03/you-cant-get-fit-without-fit-socks/">You can't get fit without fit socks</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 03 Apr 2008 22:33:00 EST. It's not much to look at -- pretty much just a wooden box with the <em>Gradius </em>logo printed on it -- but it's <em>a Gradius music box.</em> It is a mechanical music box that plays <em>Gradius </em>music. We don't think we have to explain the amazingness of such an item.<br /><br />Specifically, it plays a 15-second version of "Farewell" from <em><a href="http://vc-pce.com/jpn/j/title/gradius2.html">Gradius II GOFER no Yabou</a>. </em>We found an actual recording of the music box in action <a href="http://shmups.system11.org/viewtopic.php?p=92433&amp;sid=3a96a992ea04566b5ac3fdf49b8aa3a8#92433">here</a>. This item was only available as a mail-in offer to people who purchased three <em>Gradius</em> soundtrack CDs.<br /><br />We don't even get the opportunity to buy soundtrack CDs most of the time over here, and Japanese fans get to listen to those soundtracks <em>as music boxes. </em>Now we just have to ask ourselves: is <em>the best fifteen seconds of Gradius music ever</em> in a box worth $99?<em><br /><br /></em>[Via <a href="http://www.gamesniped.com/2007/11/20/gradius-music-box/">GameSniped</a>]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/11/21/crank-the-core-with-this-gradius-music-box/">Crank the core with this Gradius music box</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 21 Nov 2007 10:30:00 EST. This bundle of <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/manhunt2">Manhunt 2</a> </em>promo stuff is the perfect gift for the <em>Manhunt 2</em> fan in your life. Alternatively, it's a reminder that the game existed, in case, say, we enter a <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nineteen_Eighty-Four"><em>1984</em></a>-type scenario in which an oppressive government attempts to write the game out of history. Of course, then, having this stuff would probably just get you shot. Then, it's the perfect gift for the person you'd like to be shot by a hypothetical evil government.<br /><br />The set contains: a T-shirt, a DVD, two fake hospital identification bracelets, a Wiimote strap, a fake hospital memo, a poster, a ubiquitous Rockstar sticker, and a flimsy connection to gaming controversy that we'll take as an invitation to link to this <em>Night Trap </em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/06/22/friday-video-passion-burns-and-danger-calls/">video</a> again.<br /><br />Also found in today's GameSniped update: a Miyamoto-autographed <em><a href="http://cgi.ebay.com/MIYAMOTO-SIGNED-copy-of-Super-Mario-64_W0QQitemZ130171023294QQihZ003QQcategoryZ3582QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem">Mario 64</a> </em>cartridge, and a weird <a href="http://rover.ebay.com/rover/1/711-1751-2978-71/1?AID=5463217&amp;PID=&amp;mpre=http%3A%2F%2Fcgi.ebay.com%2FNES-NINTENDO-TEST-CENTER-EXTREMLY-RARE-WITH-MONITER_W0QQitemZ160177092791QQihZ006QQcategoryZ62053QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem">NES repair center thing</a>.<br /><br />[Via <a href="http://www.gamesniped.com/2007/11/07/nintendo-testing-unit-manhunt-2-promo-kit-etc/">GameSniped</a>]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/11/07/collect-some-evidence-of-manhunt-2-before-the-game-disappears/">Collect some evidence of Manhunt 2 before the game disappears</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 07 Nov 2007 19:00:00 EST. After this promo for <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/search/?q=zack+and+wiki"><span style="font-style: italic;">Zack &amp; Wiki: Quest for Barbaros' Treasure</span></a>, we just may be buying a ticket on the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/06/19/ign-conducting-the-zack-and-wiki-hype-train/">hype train</a>. Not only is this trailer long and content-rich (in fact, those who don't like to see a lot from a game may want to watch only the beginning), but it's full of hilarious cartoon clich&eacute;s. We just couldn't resist a chance to show off adorable pirates in this week's video spotlight.<br />

<br />ZDNet is <a href="http://news.zdnet.com/2100-1040_22-6198866.html">reporting</a> on Bollywood3D, a new company set up to release promotional games for India's famously prolific film industry. Unlike movie-based games in the States, which count on a box office bump from the film's premiere, Bollywood3D games will come out ahead of the movie to create early buzz, including built-in contests for merchandise and premiere tickets.<br /><br />Bollywood's famous musicals won't be adapted to start -- early games will instead let you take control of big Bollywood action stars like <a href="http://www.bollywood-stars.net/2007/07/18/emran-opinion-about-himself/">Emran Hashmi</a> and <a href="http://www.salmankhan.net/">Salman Kahn</a>. With budgets of $100,000 and and a development cycle of two months, the games aren't likely to be AAA blockbusters in their own right. But as a marketing promotion aimed at India's millions of computer owners, it might just work. Hey, if they can sell <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2006/12/21/burger-king-games-go-double-platinum/">two million Burger King games</a>, anything is possible.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/07/27/advergaming-hits-indian-movie-industry/">Advergaming hits Indian movie industry</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Fri, 27 Jul 2007 15:56:00 EST. The newest phase of the <a href="http://www.mycokerewards.com">My Coke Rewards</a> customer loyalty program, which began on April 16, was <a href="http://forums.slickdeals.net/showthread.php?sduid=0&amp;t=497176">sold out</a> of all available Nintendo merchandise by April 20, according to the deal-watchers on <a href="http://forums.slickdeals.net/showthread.php?sduid=0&amp;t=497176">slickdeals.net</a>.<br /><br />Yes, that means that at least a few people managed to redeem the 3250 reward points needed for a <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/category/ds/">Nintendo DS</a> and the 6250 points for a <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/category/nintendo-wii/">Wii</a> in less than four days. For those keeping score at home, that translates to 1084 bottles of Coke for the DS or 2084 bottles for the Wii. In <em>four days. </em>Are these people<em> </em>buying drinks for <a href="http://www.gruntsmilitary.com/battalion.shtml">Army battalions</a> or something?<em><br /><br /></em>Slower drinkers needn't worry, though -- the DS and Wii <a href="http://forums.slickdeals.net/showthread.php?sduid=0&amp;p=6401925&amp;highlight=wii#post6401925">reappeared</a> on the rewards site yesterday afternoon, meaning that more people can pursue <a href="http://www.cbsnews.com/stories/2004/09/21/earlyshow/contributors/emilysenay/main644824.shtml">obesity</a> and <a href="http://www.mercola.com/2004/apr/3/soda_teeth_erosion.htm">tooth decay</a> as they pursue their Nintendo system of choice. <span style="float: left; margin-right: 10px; margin-top: 7px;"> <script> var digg_url = 'http://digg.com/gaming_news/Sony_promoting_DS_games'; </script> <script src="http://digg.com/api/diggthis.js"></script></span> We have a shameful confession: sometimes we play games on other systems. Yes, there is a Playstation 2 in our stately Fanboy Manor, and it occasionally has a game in it. But our DS Fanboy Power is such that even the least Nintendo-like task we can think of-- buying a PS2 game-- becomes more Nintendo-centric in our presence.<br />
<br />
We recently ordered a copy of <a href="http://soulcalibur3.namco.com/"><em>Soul Calibur III</em></a> from Sony's own online <a href="http://www.sonystyle.com/is-bin/INTERSHOP.enfinity/eCS/Store/-/-/-/SY_Storefront-Start">store</a>, and were surprised by what we received today. The game was in there as expected, but there was a large glossy piece of paper in the package with it. Upon unfolding the paper, we found ... a <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/spectrobes">Spectrobes</a> </em>poster? Why on Earth would Sony send people promotional posters for a DS game? Have they given up on their own little <a href="http://playstation.joystiq.com/">project</a>? Just in case there was some <em>Spectrobes</em>-Sony connection in the companies involved or something, we checked the fine print on the poster, and found only <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/disney">Disney</a> and Nintendo copyright information-- nothing about Sony.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/03/21/sony-promoting-ds-games/">Sony promoting DS games</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 21 Mar 2007 10:00:00 EST. When Japanese gamers buy <em>Love and Berry DS Collection </em>stuff, they'll receive postcards they can send in for a chance to win this <em>Love and Berry DS Collection </em>sewing machine, as well as a <em>Love and Berry DS Collection </em>jewelry box. Oddly enough, this is not the first time the worlds of Nintendo handhelds and sewing machines have <a href="http://www.theapplecollection.com/iMac/iStore/Singer-IZEK.html">collided</a>.<br /><br />No matter what you think of it now, we guarantee you'll be pining for one of these machines when it goes up on eBay in five years.
