	Fans of the PS1 classic <em>Breath of Fire 4</em> can breathe a sigh of relief, or fire, or fiery relief, or reliefery fire, or... never mind. <em>Breath of Fire 4 </em>is scheduled to launch August 16 on PSN in the United States, according to a <a href="http://www.capcom-unity.com/ask_capcom/go/thread/view/7371/27696581/sven_bof_3_and_4_cleared_IP_or_not?pg=2">forum post</a> from Capcom Senior VP Christian Svensson. Svensson also revealed that <em>Breath of Fire</em> PSN avatars will be available for purchase on launch day, "to celebrate," probably because fireworks would be too predictable.</div><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/07/30/breath-of-fire-4-is-set-to-heat-up-psn-in-august/">Breath of Fire 4 is set to heat up PSN in August</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Sat, 30 Jul 2011 18:30:00 EST. <em>Xenogears</em> <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/02/21/xenogears-mechs-its-way-to-psone-classics-this-week/">last week</a> ... <em>Vagrant Story</em> <a href="http://blog.us.playstation.com/2011/02/27/the-drop-week-of-feb-28th-2011-new-releases/">tomorrow</a> ... and <em>Parasite Eve</em> <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/02/25/esrb-rates-parasite-eve-for-ps3-and-psp/">soon</a>. It seems the gears are finally in motion to bring all of Square's beloved "PSone Classics" to the PlayStation Network. (Still, North America has a long way to go before reaching Japan's lofty <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/02/23/psn-classics-archive-numbers-over-600-games-in-japan/">600-game</a> benchmark.)<br />
<br />
<em>Vagrant Story</em> will be available for $6 on the PlayStation Store once the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/psn-tuesday">PSN Tuesday</a> update goes live tomorrow.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/02/28/vagrant-story-re-told-on-playstation-network-tomorrow/">Vagrant Story re-told on PlayStation Network tomorrow</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Mon, 28 Feb 2011 10:00:00 EST. Sony recently celebrated the considerable size of its "Game Archives" on the Japanese PlayStation Store, which now warehouses more than 600 titles of yesteryear. <a href="http://www.siliconera.com/2011/02/23/japan-has-over-600-classic-games-on-playstation-network/">Siliconera</a> took note of the achievement (er, Trophy?), pointing out that the collection spans a modest assortment of TurboGrafx-16 and Neo Geo games, but for the most part it's made up of PS1 titles.<br />
<br />
Comparatively, the North American Store carries a considerably lighter load of 127 "PSOne Classics," 13 "PSOne Imports" and 10 Neo Geo games, according to our count. The EU Store is lighter still with just 96 Classics and 10 NeoGeo titles. So, yeah, Sony's a little behind on hitting that 7,000 milestone (<a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2006/06/28/up-to-7-000-psone-to-psp-titles-by-2007-reports-uk-psp-magazine/">by the end of 2007</a>), but <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/02/01/sony-explains-the-discrepancy-in-ps1-content-between-regions/">it's complicated</a>,</em> right?<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/02/23/psn-classics-archive-numbers-over-600-games-in-japan/">PSN classics archive numbers over 600 games ... in Japan</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 23 Feb 2011 14:30:00 EST. The Xperia Play will be pre-loaded with an <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/02/13/xperia-play-pre-loaded-with-legendary-ps1-game-will-launch-wi/">unknown "legendary" PS1 title</a> (psst! -- <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2011/02/13/xperia-play-final-hardware-hands-on/">it's <em>Crash Bandicoot</em></a>), along with a smattering of launch content -- but it <em>won't</em> be loaded with all that PlayStation Network content you've purchased. Speaking with <a href="http://uk.gamespot.com/news/6298836.html">GameSpot UK</a>, Sony Ericsson UK managing director Nathan Vautier confirmed, "[Xperia Play owners] will have to repurchase the games, so it's not totally integrated." <br />
<br />
Beyond the Android Marketplace, <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/xperia-play">Xperia Play</a> owners will purchase content through the PlayStation Store; access to said store will come via Sony's <a href="http://joystiq.com/tag/playstation-suite">PlayStation Suite</a>, launching "later this year." Unfortunately, it seems that content you've already purchased -- say, PS1 titles that will also be available for purchase on Xperia Play -- must be repurchased for use on the handheld. We can't say we're super surprised. Or mad, even, really. Just <em>disappointed</em>.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/02/14/psa-playstation-network-content-must-be-re-purchased-on-xperia/">PSA: PlayStation Network content must be re-purchased on Xperia Play</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Mon, 14 Feb 2011 16:00:00 EST. Sony Ericsson has (finally!) officially announced details on the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/xperia-play">Xperia Play</a>, aka PlayStation Phone. The device will come pre-loaded with a "legendary" PS1 game, according to Kazuo "<a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eaBUeINW_3s"><em>Ridge Racer</em></a>" Hirai and a number of PlayStation titles will be available through the Android Marketplace "exclusively to Xperia Play" for a limited time. <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/playstation-suite">PlayStation Suite</a> will be available later in the year.<br />
<br />
In addition, Ericsson has revealed that 20 publishers are working on content on the device, with up to 50 games available at launch. Some of the brands you can expect on the device include the not-so-dead <em>Guitar Hero</em>, <em>Assassin's Creed</em>, <em>Battlefield</em>, and <em>Dead Space</em>. Notably, EA's <em>FIFA</em> will be "the first multiplayer <em>FIFA</em> game on mobile."<br />
<br />
Many of the games available on Xperia Play are ports, and a partnership with Unity -- a cross-platform engine -- will allow for easy and optimized ports to Sony's mobile device. But there are some exclusives beyond PSone games: <em>Dungeon Defender Wave 2</em>, for example, is exclusive to the platform. Today's announcements make it clear that Android's finally <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/02/06/xperia-play/#continued">got game</a> -- but are you interested?<div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/xperia-play-0/">Xperia Play</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/xperia-play-0/#3875736"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2011/02/xperia-playblackca01screen1_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/xperia-play-0/#3875747"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2011/02/xperia-playblackfront40screen2_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/xperia-play-0/#3875752"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2011/02/xperia-playblackfronthsscreen1_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/xperia-play-0/#3875749"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2011/02/xperia-playblackleft_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/xperia-play-0/#3875748"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2011/02/xperia-playblackright_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/02/13/xperia-play-pre-loaded-with-legendary-ps1-game-will-launch-wi/">Xperia Play pre-loaded with 'legendary' PS1 game, will launch with 50 games from 20 publishers</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Sun, 13 Feb 2011 13:34:00 EST. Peter Dille is quite possibly one of the most qualified people to speak about PlayStation's 15 year legacy. Minus a stint at THQ, SCEA's senior vice president has been working with Sony since the PS1 launch, returning for the PS3 era. Not only did we get to speak with him about the past 15 years, but we had a chance to talk about the future and the growing importance of the Network in Sony's vision of gaming's future.<br />
<br />
<strong>Joystiq: This is a difficult first question, but what in your mind is PlayStation's single greatest contribution to the industry since its introduction 15 years ago?</strong><br />
<br />
Peter Dille: I think PlayStation changed the business in a way that made gaming popular and accessible to a much bigger audience than had been the case. When we introduced PlayStation back in 1995, we were competing against Sega and Nintendo -- two very successful companies. Largely, folks regarded gaming as something kids did, that something kids would grow out of it once they came to their senses.<br />
<br />
What PlayStation proved was that gaming was a legitimate form of entertainment, and the combination of the Sony brand and the PlayStation product and brand identity resonated with folks who were teenagers, but also people who were 35 years old. And the proof is: in 1995, the business was $2.5 billion, and today it's a $20 billion business. We helped grow this business in a way that I think speaks for itself.<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/09/16/sonys-peter-dille-discusses-playstations-15-year-legacy/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Sony's Peter Dille discusses PlayStation's 15-year legacy</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/09/16/sonys-peter-dille-discusses-playstations-15-year-legacy/">Sony's Peter Dille discusses PlayStation's 15-year legacy</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 16 Sep 2010 18:00:00 EST. Sony's rolling out the average-sized guns for its celebration of the original <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/09/09/playstation-turns-15-share-your-memories/">PlayStation's 15th birthday</a>. In a recent newsletter, the company announced that select titles on the PSOne Classics storefront will be discounted on a weekly basis over the coming months. In addition, one of the <a href="http://www.metacritic.com/game/playstation-3/super-rub-a-dub"><em>early</em></a> PSN titles, <em>Super Rub A Dub</em>, will receive a 50 percent discount starting today and running until Monday, September 20.<br />
<br />
If you don't feel like spending any cash to join in the revelry, you can also pick up a free PS1 ornament (pictured above), with which to decorate your apartment in PlayStation Home, by visiting the Theater space. We sure hope Sony also releases a "Tower of Dave Matthews Band CDs" ornament and "A VCR With a Copy of <em>Bio-Dome</em> Stuck Inside" ornament, just so we can recreate that late-90s college dorm room experience.<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/09/09/sony-discounting-psone-classics-for-15th-birthday-celebration/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Sony discounting PSOne Classics for 15th birthday celebration</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/09/09/sony-discounting-psone-classics-for-15th-birthday-celebration/">Sony discounting PSOne Classics for 15th birthday celebration</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 09 Sep 2010 14:10:00 EST. The decision overturns a lower court ruling that had rejected the man's lawsuit.<br />
<br />
Hidehiro Kume, 58, had been seeking &yen;100 million ($1.18 million) for creating a "small optical pickup used to play and record data on optical discs" in the PS1, according to <a href="http://www.istockanalyst.com/article/viewiStockNews/articleid/4421843">iStockAnalyst</a>. The component was used in the approximately <em>three bajillion</em> PS1s manufactured and sold before and during 2003. The court has ordered Sony to pay Kume about &yen;5.1 million ($60,000).<br />
<br />
''I thank the court for identifying some of my contributions to the company,'' Kume said during a news conference following the ruling. ''But the company should have appreciated my contributions when I was an employee.''<br />
<br />
A Sony representative said the company would take a closer look at the ruling before deciding whether to appeal.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/08/19/ps1-component-inventor-awarded-60k-in-ip-lawsuit-against-sony/">PS1 component inventor awarded 60K in IP lawsuit against Sony</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 19 Aug 2010 19:00:00 EST. It joins a rather small list of PSone Classics available on PS3/PSP.<br />
<br />
Unfortunately, the release has been announced for Europe only, without a release date or a price. We've contacted Square Enix to find out if a North American release will follow.<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/08/18/front-mission-3-mechs-its-way-to-psp-ps3-via-playstation-network/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Front Mission 3 mechs its way to PSP/PS3 via PlayStation Network in Europe</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/08/18/front-mission-3-mechs-its-way-to-psp-ps3-via-playstation-network/">Front Mission 3 mechs its way to PSP/PS3 via PlayStation Network in Europe</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 18 Aug 2010 00:00:00 EST. Expect #SEM_DL to become a trending topic in Japan. Why? Square Enix is asking Japanese fans to submit their top three most wanted PSone classics on <a href="http://twitter.com/SQEX_MEMBERS_JP/status/12278841745">Twitter</a> using the aforementioned hashtag. While Japan has a larger selection of classic titles on PSN already, there are some notable omissions. Fans (like the one above) have pointed out <em>Chrono Cross</em>, <em>Dragon Quest VII</em>, and <em>Legend of Mana</em> as some of their most <em>desired</em> games.<br />
<br />
We're certain fans in America and Europe would love to take part in a survey like this. Until Square Enix decides to gauge our interest, why not submit your ideas to our comments section?<br />

In what it says is a reaction to Apple's growing footprint in portable gaming, the <a href="http://online.wsj.com/article/SB10001424052748703502804575101013088128250.html">Wall Street Journal</a> reports that Sony is prepping a 2010 launch of a smartphone and an <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/ipad">iPad</a> competitor -- said to be "a portable device that blurs distinctions among a netbook, an e-reader and a PlayStation Portable" -- both capable of running PS1 games. The paper cites "people familiar with the matter" as its sources, which have also told it that the devices will work with Sony's iTunes Store challenger, the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/sony-online-service/">Sony Online Service</a>, that launches this month.<br />
<br />
The WSJ also reports that the phone is being developed in conjunction with Sony Ericsson, with Sony proper being much more involved in the design of the device over past projects, due to the company's growing focus on smartphones and other mobile platforms. Development is said to be under the direction of Senior Vice President Kunimasa Suzuki, who acts as a deputy to PlayStation boss Kaz Hirai in Sony's gaming and Network Products &amp; Services divisions.<br />
<br />
Of course, this isn't the first time we've heard talk of a fabled "<a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/psp-phone">PlayStation Phone</a>," and likely won't be the last -- hopefully the next time there's news, it will come in the form of an official product announcement by Sony.<br />

PlayStation classic <a href="http://blog.us.playstation.com/2010/02/coming-to-psn-this-week-grandia-psone-classic/"><em>Grandia</em></a> will make its way to the PSN this Thursday, February 25, at a price far less than what you'd pay for a <a href="http://www.amazon.com/Grandia-Playstation/dp/B000034DBS/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&amp;s=videogames&amp;qid=1267021644&amp;sr=1-1">new or used</a> copy. For $10, North America can finally access the RPG that's been on the Japanese PSN since April 2009 -- and on the Sega Saturn since 1997.<br />
<br />
<em>Grandia</em> stands out from other JRPGs with its exciting combat system, which was obviously in its infancy during the first installment. In fact, we've been waiting for another high-profile game to iterate <em>Grandia</em>'s turn-based battle system for <em>years</em>. Y'all just wait, when Joystiq publishing is off the ground, we'll <em>iterate</em> the heck out of it.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/02/24/grandia-coming-to-ps1-classics-on-psn-this-week/">Grandia coming to PS1 classics on PSN this week</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 24 Feb 2010 16:30:00 EST. What does 15 years of PlayStation look like? Sony Computer Entertainment Japan has opened a <a href="http://www.scei.co.jp/PS15th/">brand new site</a> celebrating the legacy of the PlayStation platform, featuring a timeline of Sony's major gaming hardware releases, beginning with the launch of the original Japanese PlayStation on December 3rd, 1994. Sony's handheld holds a majority of those dotted events, with every version of the PSP (from the 1000 to the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/psp-go">Go</a>) represented.<br /><br />The "15" year logo is a fun potpourri of various accessories released throughout the brand's history. In addition to <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/singstar"><em>SingStar</em></a> microphones and <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/buzz"><em>Buzz!</em></a> controllers, you can see Sony <em>playing</em> homage to <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/umd">UMD</a>, <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/PocketStation">PocketStation</a> and rubber ducks -- stars of the initial tech demos for both PS2 and PS3.<br /><br />[Thanks, tmacairjordan87]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/12/03/playstation-brand-celebrates-15th-anniversary/">PlayStation brand celebrates 15th anniversary</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 03 Dec 2009 13:00:00 EST. Not for the Museum of Game Science in Tokyo, where you can find the entire line of PlayStation and Xbox consoles disassembled and dissected for all to see.<br /><br />Seen in <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2009/09/25/video-a-brief-history-of-game-console-teardowns/">Engadget's</a> video above, one thin layer of glass is all that prevents the intrepid cameraman from reaching into the displays and pulling bits from here, bobs from there to assemble the world's first <em>supermega-gen</em> console:<em> XStation 720</em>. The <a href="http://esrb.com">ESRB</a> has proven to be the unacknowledged PR firm for the announcement of <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/ps1">Sony's PSOne Classics</a> -- today, the ratings board <a href="http://www.examiner.com/examiner/x-6894-SF-Console-Game-Examiner~y2009m9d1-Oddworld-and-others-becoming-PSOne-Classics">released its biggest onslaught</a> of upcoming PSN titles to date, including such gems as:<br />
<ul>
    <li><em>Blood Omen: Legacy of Kain</em></li>
    <li><em>Cool Boarders 3</em></li>
    <li><em>International Track &amp; Field</em></li>
    <li><em>Oddworld: Abe's Exodus</em></li>
    <li><em>Oddworld: Abe's Oddysee</em></li>
    <li><em>Pandemonium!</em></li>
    <li><em>Syphon Filter 2</em></li>
    <li><em>Um Jammer Lammy</em></li>
</ul>
Some of these ratings are new -- however, <a href="http://playstation.joystiq.com/2008/02/28/four-new-psn-games-for-japan/"><em>Um Jammer Lammy</em></a> has already been released in Japan, and <em>Blood Omen</em> and <em>Pandemonium!</em> <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/03/20/pandemonium-and-blood-omen-rated-by-esrb/">were actually given ratings</a> last March before mysteriously disappearing from the ESRB site. Hopefully, their resurfacing is indicative of their swift arrival -- we're jonesing for some old fashioned, Silicon Knights-branded Vampiolence.<br /><br />[Via <a href="http://www.computerandvideogames.com/article.php?id=222314?cid=OTC-RSS&amp;attr=CVG-General-RSS">CVG</a>]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/09/01/esrb-rates-oddworld-blood-omen-and-others-for-psn/">ESRB rates Oddworld, Blood Omen and others for PSN</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 01 Sep 2009 17:00:00 EST. The <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/02/07/fan-translation-of-kojimas-policenauts-nears-completion/">fan translation patch</a> for Hideo Kojima's sci-fi graphical text adventure, <em>Policenauts</em>, is now complete and available for download. The game, originally planned for official release on the Sega Saturn in 1996, was never released in English by Konami, so a group of fans worked to localize and patch the files.<br /> <br /> <em>Policenauts</em> is an adventure game in a similar style to Kojima's <em>Snatcher</em>, consisting of mostly still images with fully-voiced dialogue and a text-based menu interface. The game follows Jonathan Ingram, a one-time policeman on an extraterrestrial Earth colony, who drifted into space and returned to Earth 25 years later, having been saved by a "cold sleep" system in his suit. Following his return, he works as a private investigator and attempts to solve a murder and a mysterious disappearance.<br /> <br /> The patch requires a copy of the Japanese PlayStation version of the game and a PlayStation that can play CD-R discs -- that's because you have to rip the game files, apply the patch, and then burn it to another disc. <em>Finally</em>, a reason to dust off that PlayStation you modded to play <em>Beatmania</em> ten years ago!<br /> <br /> [Thanks, Mike]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/08/24/kojimas-policenauts-now-playable-in-english/">Kojima's Policenauts now playable in English</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Mon, 24 Aug 2009 19:30:00 EST. Square's PS1-era RPG, <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/vagrant-story"><em>Vagrant Story</em></a>, is a weird, brilliant little game. This under-appreciated gem had a number of interesting elements that enraptured those who played it when it was released in 2000 -- elements like deep weapon creation tools, a real-time battle system and a tragic, Shakespearian plot that few RPGs since have been able to emulate.<br /><br />Folks living in Japan recently received a second chance to pick up the game -- it just got <a href="http://www.siliconera.com/2009/08/11/vagrant-story-crawls-on-to-game-archives/">added to the Japanese PlayStation Store</a> for the extremely reasonable price of &yen;600 (about $6.25). We've contacted Square Enix to see if and when <em>Vagrant Story</em> (as well as a few other of Squeenix's PS1 Originals) will be making their way stateside.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/08/12/vagrant-story-released-on-japanese-psn/">Vagrant Story released on Japanese PSN</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 12 Aug 2009 12:45:00 EST. Taito's had a glut of classic-title remakes hit current-gen consoles as of late -- and if a recent rumor proves to be true, its streak shows no signs of stopping. NeoGAF user <a href="http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showpost.php?p=17017522&amp;postcount=17650">Shard recently posted</a> some supposedly leaked images from the developer's next project -- an Xbox Live Arcade version of <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/RayStorm">PS1 top-down shoot-em-up <em>Raystorm</em></a> (aptly titled <em>Raystorm HD</em>).<br /><br />Mr. Shard also supposedly dug up images of an XBLA version of <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/rainbow-islands-towering-adventure"><em>Rainbow Islands: Towering Adventure</em></a>, a recent WiiWare release. That's <em>great</em> and all, but we're far more intrigued by the possibility of a renovated version of Taito's classic shooter, which features <em>weaponized lightning</em>. We've contacted Taito to see if they'll comment on the rumored screens. Stay tuned!<br /><br />[Via <a href="http://www.gamerbytes.com/2009/08/the_taito_remakes_continue_fir.php">GamerBytes</a>]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/08/07/rumor-raystorm-remake-and-rainbow-islands-towering-adventure-c/">Rumor: Raystorm remake and Rainbow Islands: Towering Adventure coming to XBLA</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Fri, 07 Aug 2009 15:00:00 EST. Sony is printing money with its slowly expanding library of PSone classics on the PlayStation Store. Playable on both PSP and PS3, these downloadable titles have been an easy way to prey upon gamer nostalgia. Unsurprisingly, the most iconic games of the PS1 era take the top of the PSone downloads chart in the month of June:<br />
<ol>
    <li>Final Fantasy VII</li>
    <li>Street Fighter Alpha</li>
    <li>Castlevania: Symphony of the Night</li>
    <li>Crash Bandicoot</li>
    <li>Twisted Metal 2</li>
    <li>Spyro the Dragon</li>
    <li>Crash Bandicoot: WARPED</li>
    <li>Crash Bandicoot 2</li>
    <li>Wild Arms</li>
    <li>Tekken 2</li>
</ol>
It shouldn't be too surprising to see multiple <em>Crash Bandicoot</em> games take positions in the top 10. He was, after all, PlayStation's official mascot back in the day. Let's remember him with some classic PS1 ads after the break.<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/07/02/final-fantasy-street-fighter-and-castlevania-top-the-psone-sale/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Final Fantasy, Street Fighter and Castlevania top the PSone sales charts</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/07/02/final-fantasy-street-fighter-and-castlevania-top-the-psone-sale/">Final Fantasy, Street Fighter and Castlevania top the PSone sales charts</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 02 Jul 2009 16:15:00 EST. Our problem isn't that we're waffling on whether or not to buy <a href="http://www.etsy.com/view_listing.php?listing_id=27127238&amp;ref=sr_gallery_7&amp;&amp;ga_search_query=iphone+sleeve&amp;ga_search_type=handmade&amp;ga_page=3&amp;order=date_desc&amp;includes[]=tags&amp;includes[]=title">one of these</a> gorgeous, felt, PlayStation One-shaped iPhone cases. Our problem is that we can't <em>stop</em> buying them. Every time we confirm our order we think of yet another reason we need one. What if we lose the first one in a house fire? What if the second one goes through the wash? What if we want our iPhone to have a different yet identical outfit for every day of the week like <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Doug">Doug Funnie</a>?<br /><br />We hope you understand our predicament. PSP fans will also get their hands on seven titles, including two <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/mega-man">Mega Man</a> </em>games, two <em>Capcom Classics</em> collections, <em>Darkstalkers</em> and <em>Power Stone Collection.</em> <br /><br />It's a pretty good bunch of games and you can see the full list after the break. We've contacted Capcom Europe to ask, but release dates for the US will be revealed on the PlayStation Blog over time.</div>

Square Enix fans can look forward to enjoying more <em>Final Fantasy</em> classics on the PS3/PSP in the future. The very first <em>Final Fantasy</em> game has been re-released as a PSN downloadable in Japan, and it looks as though many more are to come. This digital download isn't a PSN version of the PSP enhanced <em>Final Fantasy</em>. Rather, it's a downloadable version of the PSone remake. <a href="http://www.siliconera.com/2009/06/24/final-fantasy-1-heads-to-game-archives/">Siliconera</a> notes that the PSone game includes FMV cinemas and an art gallery, but misses features found in the later GBA/PSP versions.<br /><br />Considering all of the classic <em>Final Fantasy</em> games (minus <em>III</em>) were eventually ported on PSone, chances are good that PSN will play home to a very comprehensive library of <em>Final Fantasy</em> games. Who doesn't want to play <em>Final Fantasy VI</em> again?<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/06/25/square-enix-releases-original-final-fantasy-to-psone-archives-m/">Square Enix releases original Final Fantasy to PS1 archives, more to come</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 25 Jun 2009 15:00:00 EST. According to <a href="http://www.siliconera.com/2009/06/24/vintage-mega-man-games-rushing-to-psn-too/">Siliconera</a>, Capcom has just released <em>Rockman Complete Works</em>, a PS1 enhanced version of <em>Mega Man 1</em> on the PlayStation Network. The problem? It's impossible for you to get. To celebrate the very-late PS3 release of <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/mega-man-9"><em>Mega Man 9</em></a> in Japan, Capcom is holding a contest for those that purchase the game. Winners will be able to get either a free t-shirt, or a downloadable version of <em>Rockman Complete Works</em>.<br /><br />We're certain Capcom won't restrict the release of <em>Rockman</em> to just this Japan-only contest. We wouldn't be surprised to see each and every <em>Mega Man</em> game released on PS1 to get its inevitable PSN re-release. Let's not forget, Capcom <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/12/27/whole-slew-of-downloadable-psp-and-psone-titles-coming-from-ca/">promised a lot</a> of downloads this year ...<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/06/24/enhanced-mega-man-1-on-playstation-network-impossible-to-get/">Enhanced Mega Man 1 on PlayStation Network, impossible to get</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 24 Jun 2009 17:45:00 EST. Finishing up <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/05/31/your-dreams-come-true-esrb-rates-ffvii-for-ps3-psp/"><em>Final Fantasy VII</em></a>? (Wow, you're fast!) Don't worry, looks like there's even more classic PSone RPG goodness coming your way. <a href="http://www.siliconera.com/2009/06/18/wild-arms-2-saddling-up-for-playstation-network-re-release/">Siliconera</a> discovered an ESRB rating for <em>Wild Arms 2</em>. With games like <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/06/04/metal-gear-solid-coming-to-psn-june-18/"><em>Metal Gear Solid</em></a> finally coming out on the PlayStation Store, it looks like Sony is finally doing good on its promise of delivering more PS1 games. Remember folks, these games can play on both your PS3 and PSP.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/06/19/wild-arms-2-rated-by-esrb/">Wild Arms 2 rated by ESRB</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Fri, 19 Jun 2009 12:10:00 EST. Qore's first year is coming to an end with Episode 13. The delayed anniversary issue will focus on <em>inFamous</em>, <em>Fight Night Round 4</em> <del>and the PSPgo</del>. Wait! It looks like the leaked feature has been removed from this upcoming issue. Strange, considering <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/05/30/rumor-psp-go-revealed-in-june-issue-of-qore/">the damage</a> has already been done.<br /><br />Digital bonuses included with this month's issue include a free Qore t-shirt for PlayStation Home, and a free download of the PSone classic, <em>Spyro</em> (playable on both PS3 and PSP). Episode 13 will be available on the PlayStation Store this Thursday. Check out a trailer after the break.<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/06/17/qore-episode-13-includes-free-spyro-removes-psp-go-feature/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Qore Episode 13 includes free Spyro, removes PSP Go feature</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/06/17/qore-episode-13-includes-free-spyro-removes-psp-go-feature/">Qore Episode 13 includes free Spyro, removes PSP Go feature</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 17 Jun 2009 16:15:00 EST. Somewhere under <em>Chocobo Racing</em> and <em>Ehrgeiz</em>, to be exact. It's not that we dislike the game -- far from it -- it's just that we've <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/10/14/psp-fanboy-review-final-fantasy-tactics/">played it recently</a> on our PSPs with improved cutscenes and vastly superior translation. The idea of releasing the old "Spoony Bard" version on PSN instead of <em>Final Fantasy VIII </em>or <em>IX</em> doesn't exactly thrill us.<br /><br />But it looks like that's what will be happening as the ESRB has rated the game for both the PS3 and PSP, meaning we could see it pop on the American PSN store at any moment. As for Europe? Don't bet on it -- the original PS1 version never made it across the Atlantic, so we don't expect the digital version to do so either.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/06/15/esrb-rates-final-fantasy-tactics-for-ps3-and-psp/">ESRB rates Final Fantasy Tactics for PS3 and PSP</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Mon, 15 Jun 2009 15:15:00 EST. Konami has announced that the original <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/metal-gear-solid"><em>Metal Gear Solid</em></a> will finally be heading to the PlayStation Store in America -- and pretty soon, too. You'll be able to replay Solid Snake's original adventure on June 18 and, similar to previous high-profile PS1 releases, will cost $9.99.<br /><br />As for Europe? No word, yet. Normally, we'd say there's no chance of both the US and Europe getting the same PS1 titles around the same time, but we <em>just</em> heard that <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/final-fantasy-vii"><em>Final Fantasy VII</em></a> is coming to <a href="http://playstation.joystiq.com/2009/06/04/final-fantasy-vii-available-to-download-in-europe-today/">Europe too</a>, so you never know.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/06/04/metal-gear-solid-coming-to-psn-june-18/">Metal Gear Solid coming to PSN June 18</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 04 Jun 2009 13:45:00 EST. <div align="left">To be honest, we never expected it to happen. We're so used to Japan getting awesome PS1 titles that never come to the US or Europe, we just assumed <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/final-fantasy-vii"><em>Final Fantasy VII</em></a> would be <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/04/10/final-fantasy-vii-now-available-on-the-playstation-store/">one of them</a>. The ESRB says otherwise, however, as it has <a href="http://www.esrb.org/ratings/search.jsp">rated</a> the game for both the PSP and PS3, meaning that we could see it release at any time. Wouldn't that make make a great E3 week treat?<br /><br />Whether this will be released in Europe is at the whim of Square Enix, though there is no listing for the game on the European ESRB equivilent, PEGI. Like <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/05/23/resident-evil-directors-cut-coming-to-psn-may-28/"><em>Resident Evil: Director's Cut</em></a>, this may be exclusive to America.<br /><br />[Thanks to everyone who sent this in]</div>

The <a href="http://www.esrb.org/ratings/search.jsp">ESRB</a> has revealed a list of games that could appear on the PSN soon. All six games (as detailed in the image above) are PS1 titles that have yet to appear on the PlayStation Store. <br /><br />Are these the games Sony's <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/03/03/sony-looking-to-make-psp-psn-more-like-virtual-console/">John Koller</a> was talking about when he said PSN was to receive more from the classics library? This list may not be the ultimate, but it's a start. With the mention of this, and <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/05/23/resident-evil-directors-cut-coming-to-psn-may-28/"><em>Resident Evil</em></a> having been loaded onto <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/05/28/psn-thursday-ready-to-buy-resident-evil-again/">PSN yesterday</a>, it looks like SCEA is fulfilling its promise of more PS1 classics.<br /><br />Here's some further information on the six titles:<br />
<ul>
    <li><em>Contra: Legacy of War </em>- top-down version of classic <em>Contra</em> shooting action<br /></li>
    <li><em>Dead in the Water</em> - Think <em>Twisted Metal</em> ... on water<br /></li>
    <li><em>Ford Racing</em> - Hmm, we think it may have something to do with racing<br /></li>
    <li><em>Mobile Light Force </em>- Vertical-scrolling shmup<br /></li>
    <li><em>Spec Ops: Airborne Commando</em> - More shooting action<br /></li>
    <li><em>XS Junior League Soccer</em> - Soccer!</li>

We've been hearing it over and over again: there's more PS1 games coming -- Sony swears! The latest update to the ESRB database shows a number of PSone games coming down the pipeline, with <em>R-Type Delta</em> and <em>Metal Gear Solid </em>standing out as the most exciting of the bunch.<br />

    <li><em>Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six</em></li>

However, judging from the fact that the listings don't include rating summaries, we can assume these weren't added to the database at any point <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/11/12/esrb-reveals-new-rating-summaries-we-wait-for-comedy-gold/">since November 2008</a>.<br /><br />With titles like <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/05/02/esrb-lists-potential-upcoming-ps1-downloads/"><em>WipEout XL</em></a>, <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/10/21/esrb-rates-street-fighter-alpha-sequels-for-psn/"><em>Street Fighter </em><em>Alpha</em><em> 2</em> and <em>3</em></a> -- not to mention European titles on the PEGI like <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/01/10/rumor-vib-ribbon-coming-to-euro-psn/"><em>Vib Ribbon</em></a> and <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/01/15/klonoa-rated-by-the-pegi-for-the-playstation-network/"><em>Klonoa</em></a> -- having been listed for months and, in some cases, over a year, we're not expecting to see these <em>Spyro</em> games soon. Does this look a little like a SNES to you? Well, it should. Sony's first steps into gaming came courtesy of its current competitor. Sony was to partner with Nintendo in creating a CD-based expansion for the Super Nintendo. The very first PlayStation would have been a powerful collaboration between two Japanese giants, but a controversial split between the two left Sony sidelined, bitter ... and determined to beat Nintendo at its own game.<br /><br /><a href="http://www.edge-online.com/magazine/the-making-of-playstation">Edge Online</a> has a fantastic piece on the history behind the very first PlayStation system, detailing the system's unexpected rise to mainstream popularity. PS1 was a technological marvel for its time, pushing the boundaries of games to what was then considered super-computing. Sound familiar? Phil Harrison reminisced about the past: "This was a super high-end workstation. And Ken [Kutaragi]'s big vision was to take that, apply it in high volume and bring it into the home." Looking at the history of the PS1, it's clear that PS3 follows a heritage of bringing unheard of power to the masses.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/04/24/the-making-of-a-legend-playstation-1/">The making of a legend: PlayStation 1</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Fri, 24 Apr 2009 16:15:00 EST. ... in Japan. The PSone RPG classic is now a downloadable PS3/PSP game, just in time for the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/advent-children"><em>Advent Children Complete</em></a> Blu-ray release. This digital re-release can be purchased for 1500 yen. The multi-disc game has been converted into a massive 1715MB download, so make sure your hard drive/Memory Stick has enough room before downloading.<br /><br />We'd love to assure you that <em>FFVII</em> will find its way stateside, but we'd be lying. Square Enix has already <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/06/25/square-enix-to-release-ps1-classics-begins-with-xenogears/">re-released</a> a number of PS1 classics in Japan, and none have found their way to the US/EU PlayStation Store.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/04/10/final-fantasy-vii-now-available-on-the-playstation-store/">Final Fantasy VII now available on the PlayStation Store</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Fri, 10 Apr 2009 10:30:00 EST. <a href="http://www.gamasutra.com/php-bin/news_index.php?story=22842">Gamasutra</a> notes there are roughly 30 PS1 downloadable classics on the US PlayStation Store -- a number Sony <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/03/03/sony-looking-to-make-psp-psn-more-like-virtual-console/">promises to increase</a>. From looking at the chart embedded above, we can see which titles are the most popular.<br /><br />Crowning the top ten is Capcom's <em>Street Fighter Alpha</em>, which debuted back in August of last year. It's also not surprising to see Konami's <em>Castlevania: Symphony of the Night</em> near the top; however, it is interesting to note that two third-party titles are easily dominating the top spots, despite the fact that most available downloadable PS1 titles are published by Sony (including the eight other top ten games). If only third parties would react to this data, we'd have a more diverse library of classics.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/04/02/these-are-the-top-10-ps1-games-on-psn/">These are the top 10 PS1 games on PSN</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 02 Apr 2009 13:30:00 EST. When SCEA's John Koller said Sony was looking into transferring more <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/03/03/sony-looking-to-make-psp-psn-more-like-virtual-console/">PS1 classics to PSN</a>, he wasn't kidding around. Third-party companies like Capcom appear to be stepping up their game; strategic planning &amp; business development VP Christian Svensson says the company has more PS1 titles down the line. "The first PS1 titles for PSN were submitted last week ... when I have some dates for them, we'll let you know ..." Svensson confirmed on <a href="http://www.capcom-unity.com/ask_capcom/go/thread/view/7371/14006141/Capcom_USA_and_releasing_PS1_games_on_PSN_or_lack_thereof">Capcom Unity</a>.<br /><br />So far, Capcom only has one PS1 game in its classics roster: <em>Street Fighter Alpha</em> -- excluding the HD remix of <em>Super Puzzle Fighter II Turbo</em>. The ESRB has hinted at <em>Street Fighter Alpha 2 &amp; 3</em> <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/10/21/street-fighter-alpha-2-and-3-rated-by-esrb/">coming to PSN</a> for some time now, but these might not be the titles Svensson is currently referring to. Perhaps we'll see more <em>Resident Evil</em> games on PSN like in Japan.<br /><br />[Via <a href="http://www.siliconera.com/2009/03/17/capcom-putting-more-ps1-games-on-psn/">Siliconera</a>]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/03/17/capcom-working-on-more-ps1-classics-for-psn/">Capcom working on more PS1 classics for PSN</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 17 Mar 2009 15:15:00 EST. The next issue of Qore offers video features on <em>Resident Evil 5</em>, <em>Godfather II</em> and <em>MLB 09 The Show</em>. However, the included download for this month's episode has nothing to do with any of these games. In fact, the download for this month's Qore is a legacy PS1 title, <em>Syphon Filter</em>. The classic PS1 title will be bundled with the next episode, and it'll be playable on both your PS3 and PSP. * Download will be provided through e-mail vouchers, to be mailed on or before March 31. <br /><br />Check out a video preview after the break.<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/02/05/qore-episode-9-features-syphon-filter-download/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Qore Episode 9 features Syphon Filter download</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/02/05/qore-episode-9-features-syphon-filter-download/">Qore Episode 9 features Syphon Filter download</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 05 Feb 2009 09:30:00 EST. <div align="left">As the ESRB <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/05/02/esrb-lists-potential-upcoming-ps1-downloads/">predicted</a>, <em>Castlevania Chronicles</em> will make its debut on the US PSN later today. <a href="http://blog.wired.com/games/2008/12/castlevania-chr.html">Wired</a> got word that the PlayStation uno remake of the 1993 <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sharp_X68000" title="Sharp X68000">Sharp X68000</a> title will come in the form of a PS Store download. The remake features improved graphics, remixed music, level redesigns as well as a rendered introduction and ending. At one point, this rare game would have fetched a rather <em>fabulous</em> price on eBay, but now gamers won't have to pay big bucks to join in on the Dracula hunting fun -- instead, the price of admission will be a recession-friendly $5.99.<br /><br />Way better than <a href="http://nintendo.joystiq.com/2008/12/17/wii-fanboy-review-castlevania-judgment/"><em>Castlevania Judgement</em></a>, we'll give you that.<br /><br /></div>

Maybe Sony hasn't <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/11/20/really-sonys-promising-more-psone-games-really/"><em>completely</em> given up</a> on releasing PS1 games for download onto PS3/PSP. The sharp eyes of David B. discovered two new games added to the ESRB database: <em>Rayman 2</em> and <em>Medal of Honor</em>. While we're pretty certain the latter hasn't aged too well, we're more than glad at a chance to play <em>Rayman 2</em> again.<br /> <br /> Of course, we have to remember -- just because the ESRB has rated a game doesn't mean it'll release <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/05/02/esrb-lists-potential-upcoming-ps1-downloads/">any time soon</a>.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/12/02/shock-esrb-rates-more-ps1-downloadables/">Shock!
