PlayStation 3 is the console for those that value choice. From a standard three-pronged power cord to a standard hard drive bay, Sony's hardware is compatible with a vast range of products, including additional operating systems (e.g., Linux).<br /><br />Already own a USB headset? What about a web cam? As Microsoft forces us to buy into -- often inferior -- proprietary devices, Sony welcomes us to use those peripherals we might already have lying around. <em>Bravo!</em><br /><br /><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/ps3delight">PS3 delights</a> vs. <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/ps3annoy">PS3 annoyances</a><br /><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/wiidelight">Wii delights</a> vs. <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/wiiannoy">Wii annoyances</a><br /><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/360delight">Xbox 360 delights</a> vs. <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/360annoy">Xbox 360 annoyances</a><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2006/11/20/anything-goes-so-long-proprietary-peripherals-ps3-delight-00/">Anything goes (so long proprietary peripherals) (PS3 delight #002)</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Mon, 20 Nov 2006 11:05:00 EST. You'd be wrong though; the system runs almost silently from start-up to power-down, gliding along like the sleek, aerodynamic <a href="http://images.google.com/images?q=concept+car">concept car</a> it resembles.<br /><br />What's more, even with a built-in power supply, an enormous heat sink means that the top surface of the system is cool to the touch even after extended use. The system's heat is directed almost exclusively downward and out through the case's <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2006/05/14/ps3-let-there-be-vents/">massive side vents</a>, which will hopefully preclude any 360-style problems with <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2005/11/23/xbox-360-crashing-overheating/">overheating</a>.<br /><br />Granted, the system's case design doesn't significantly impact the game-playing experience, but it's little touches like these help make a piece of hardware easier to integrate into a home entertainment center (that is if you can <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2006/06/29/wii-lookin-wee-next-to-ps3/">fit it in there</a>. Zing!)<br /><br /><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/ps3delight">PS3 delights</a><br /><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/wiidelight">Wii delights</a><br /><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/360delight">Xbox 360 delights</a><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2006/11/15/sonys-system-projects-a-quiet-cool-ps3-delight-1/">Sony's system projects a quiet cool (PS3 delight #1)</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 15 Nov 2006 17:25:00 EST.
