We absolutely recognize that we should focus on the new PSN game, TerRover, this week, and acknowledge that Dragon Age: Origins' "Witch Hunt" DLC is now available, but we we can't help but take note of something down in the "themes" section. There's a "Hot for Teacher" premium theme available now for PSP and PS3. We have no idea what it is, but now we can't get that Van Halen video out of our heads.

Happy ModNation Racers day, everyone! A healthy portion of the European PSN update this week focuses on United Front's customizable racer on both its big and tiny platforms. There's also the launch of downloadable versions of Prince of Persia: The Forgotten Sands and Armoured Core 3 Portable on the PSP, the addition of the "Darkspawn Chronicles" DLC for Dragon Age: Origins and Aerosmith's "Love in an Elevator" finally gets added to Guitar Hero 5. We can sleep well tonight with that knowledge in our brains.

Your choices for downloadable games in this week's European PSN update are fairly limited -- however, the two choices you've got are rather appealing. If you're looking for a hex-based diplomacy simulator, Catan is now available for the PS3. If you want some jetpack-infused action, Rocket Knight is probably a safer choice. Or, if you want to pimp out your copy of Skate 3, DJ Hero, Nier or LittleBigPlanet with new DLC, there are a few avenues for you to explore as well. Everyone's a winner!

Though there's not much new in the "playable games" department, this week's PSN update adds a number of expansions to at least a few games you probably already own, such as Dante's Inferno, Super Street Fighter IV, MAG and Just Cause 2. The PSP gets some new DLC as well, in the shape of a new content kit for LittleBigPlanet and Buzz! Quiz World. Oh, and don't even worry about whether or not "(I've Had) The Time Of My Life" made it into Karaoke Revolution, because, as of today, it totally has.

There's a whole gang of playable content to get excited about in this week's European PSN update, such as Lead and Gold, After Burner Climax, the Lost Planet 2 multiplayer demo and UNO on the PSP. However, we'd make a strong case that the highlight of this most recent batch of additions isn't playable at all. We're speaking, of course, of the Sonic The Hedgehog comic from Archie Comics. Think we're joking? Look, right there, on the cover: "The World's Most Way Past Cool Comic!" How can you say no to that?

PSN Thursday no more: say hello to PSN Tuesday and Wednesday

Do you sometimes get jealous of your Xbox-owning friends that are able to download demos and DLC a day earlier than you? Don't worry, PS3 fans. Sony has a solution: Release content before Microsoft! Both the American and European PlayStation Store updates are moving to new days, starting in May.

Tuesdays become the new day for PSN updates in North America, as recently explained by Pulse's Christina Lee (pictured, above). In Europe, content will be updated on Wednesday, as explained by SCEE's Mike Kebby.

While this may seem like terrific news for PlayStation fans, we're pretty certain this is how the time wars begin. With Sony pushing earlier, Microsoft will have no choice but to retaliate by sending Major Nelson back in time to assassinate the unborn Kevin Butler! Don't worry, though. We're pretty certain he knows how to travel through time as well.

PSN Thursday: Final Fight Double Impact, Sam and Max, Skate 3 demo

Final Fight: Double Impact is the highlight of this week's PSN update -- especially if you're a Magic Sword fanboy. Those interested in test drives can take the Skate 3 demo out for an ollie, while the latest Sam & Max adventure game is also available to try.

As has become normal, there's an impressive new helping of comics for the PSP. This latest update adds the first eight issues of Kick-Ass, which has, as they stamp on the covers of those rectangular objects known as books nowadays, become "a major motion picture."

Europe's finally getting its hands on Peggle and a demo for Yakuza 3, a bunch of games went on sale (such as Marvel vs. Capcom 2), new content was added to Assassin's Creed 2 and Resident Evil 5, and Otis Redding made his debut on Rock Band. All was right with the world.

PSN Thursday: Heavy Rain demo drips in

This week's PSN update is highlighted by the sopping wet delight of the Heavy Rain demo. We liked the "interactive drama" in our review, but now's the time to try it out and decide if the gameplay is right for you. There's actually plenty going on in this week's update, but we can't seem to stop focusing on this Ditta Von Teese "premium" theme. See, there was a Dita theme back in November, but this latest one is a "premium" theme for the same price of $2. Is it Teese-ier? On PSP, try out the echoshift demo and check out all those comics. The games may not flow for the PSP Go, but at least there's plenty to read. Check out the full PSN update after the break.

Isn't that kind of like watching a scene from the middle of the movie, turning the movie off, then coming back and watching the rest of it a couple weeks later?

European PSN releases for February 4

Hey, look at you, Europe! You finally got your hands on Final Fantasy VIII! Try not to get too jealous about the fact that we've been playing that jam for a couple of months now -- after all, you guys already got Vagrant Story. You jerks.

There are tons of other noteworthy items in this week's update, including a demo for Alien Vs. Predator and Battlefield Bad Company 2. You'll also find a few packs of downloadable souls for Dante's Inferno, some of which require real-life money to obtain. Basically, you purchase souls without having to actually play the game. As far as we're concerned, that's straight-up sloth.

Folks who couldn't bring themselves to buy Uncharted 2 until they played the demo, well, now's their chance. This week's PSN update adds a single-player demo for Joystiq's Game of the Year for 2009. For those who already have Nathan Drake's latest adventure, the update also includes the $5 "PlayStation Heroes" pack, which allows you to reskin the Uncharted 2 crew with Resistance, inFamous and Killzone bodies. The update may not be big, but the savings are as the PlayStation Network is holding its "10 for '10 Game Sale" this week. Until next Wednesday, January 27, pick up games like Critter Crunch and Burn Zombie Burn for half off -- wow, does this sound familiar. PSN Thursday: It's so tiny

Today's PSN update reminds us about the vastness of space. Like, space is really, really huge. Certainly in comparison to this week's update, which is so very, very small. Almost microscopic when placed next to each other. It's the smallest update we've seen in a long, long time. We're not going to say that it's been as long as space has existed, but it's been a long time. There's some Vampire Weekend DLC for Guitar Hero and an UNO demo, if you're interested. There's also more PSP comics. Check out the PSN update after the break.

This Wednesday: Matt Hazard brings 'Blood Bath & Beyond' to XBLA, PSN on Thursday

Faux video game legend Matt Hazard returns (this time, for real) in Blood Bath & Beyond, blasting his way onto XBLA and PSN this Wednesday and Thursday, respectively. The 2D side-scroller has the protagonist battling through his "classic" gaming past, fighting "pirates to penguins; lighthouses to laser-wielding astronauts; Mounties to mechanical rhinos" for $15 (1200).

The idea behind Matt Hazard sounds so perfect on paper: take thirty years of video game cliches and mock them. Sadly, as evidenced by Matt Hazard's first outing, Eat Lead: The Return of Matt Hazard, instead of creating humor from the conventions, it ironically relied on them for the core gameplay -- thus, creating a game that invariably could mock itself and was its own punchline. Hopefully, this time around Hazard will make the jokes instead of being one.
