That's a meaty $30 off the regular price, and excellent value for a handheld with an extensive library - one that's still growing, by the way.<br /><br />The Core Pack is just a fancy name for the base unit plus adapter and battery, so don't expect any games bundled in. The arrival of a new PSP hardware bundle may seem ill-timed with the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/10/18/playstation-vita-to-launch-in-north-america-on-february-22/">impending launch</a> of the Vita, but Sony isn't about to stop catering to the gift-craving siblings, cousins and nephews of the world this holiday. And we don't know about you, but we don't have any nephews that are worth spending <em>two hundred and fifty</em> dollars on.<br />
<br />
Instead, for $160 you can pick up the new <a href="http://blog.us.playstation.com/2011/10/24/coming-soon-cars-2-the-video-game-for-psp-and-the-ea-sports-fifa-soccer-12-and-cars-2-the-video-game-psp-entertainment-pack/">PSP Entertainment Pack</a>, which includes a PSP-3000, 2GB Memory Stick Pro DUO, a UMD copy of soccer smash <em>FIFA 12</em> and a download voucher for <em>Cars 2 </em>(a racing game, we'd venture). The bundle should be available on November 15th.<br />
<br />
If you're jumping into PlayStation Portable gaming now (and feel free to use the "nephew" excuse we fabricated above), you should keep an eye out for the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/10/18/mega-man-and-monster-hunter-bundled-up-for-psp/"><em>Mega Man</em> and <em>Monster Hunter</em></a> packs at Gamestop. That is, if you're willing to add UMD clutter to your life -- with an <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/10/13/sony-looking-into-umd-download-discount-for-vita-hedging-about/">uncertain</a> shot at backwards compatibility.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/10/25/fifa-12-and-cars-2-in-psp-hardware-bundle-this-november/">FIFA 12 and Cars 2 in PSP hardware bundle this November</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 25 Oct 2011 03:00:00 EST. We imagine anybody in the market for a PSP has already gone and tracked one down (or is simply waiting for the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/playstation-vita">PlayStation Vita</a>) but regardless EA and Sony have teamed up on <a href="http://blog.us.playstation.com/2011/08/10/coming-soon-madden-nfl-12-need-for-speed-shift-psp-entertainment-pack">a new bundle</a>. As you may have gathered from the headline to this very post, the bundle comes with a copy of <em>Madden NFL 12</em> and <em>Need for Speed: Shift.</em> It also throws in the requisite black PSP-3000 and a 2GB Memory Stick Pro Duo, all for $159.99.<br />
<br />
Sony will release the bundle on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/04/13/madden-nfl-12-will-launch-on-august-30-regardless-of-nfl-lockou/">August 30</a>, the same day that <em>Madden</em> will be released on basically every platform in existence including the PSP.<br />

In what can only be seen as a sign of <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/ngp/">the Next-Gen</a> <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/3ds/"><em>Portables</em></a> to come, Sony will cut, nay, slash (perhaps even hack) the price of the PSP-3000 to $130 beginning this weekend. The new price removes a <em>considerable</em> $40 from the previous $170 MSRP. Additionally, all 3000-bundled "Entertainment Packs" will be reduced to $160. The PSP Go price will <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/10/25/psp-go-price-cut/">remain $200</a>, for now.<br />
<br />
The new price will go into effect this Sunday, just in time for the Academy Awards. Most eye-catching among them is the <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/dissidia-duodecim-final-fantasy">Dissidia 012</a></em> <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/12/20/dissidia-duodecim-final-fantasy-japan-release-date/">"Chaos &amp; Cosmos" pack</a>, including the above Pearl White PSP with what looks like Yoshitaka Amano character art. It will be released March 3 in Japan, bundled with the game, for &yen;22,890 ($275). Unlike the game's title, this thing is a pleasure to look at.<br />
<br />
Sony also revealed <a href="http://www.jp.playstation.com/info/release/nr_20110106_psp_mhp.html">two more</a> <em>Monster Hunter Portable 3rd</em> <a href="http://www.jp.playstation.com/info/release/nr_20110106_psp_mhp.html">bundles</a>, this time functionally normal PSP-3000s rather than the special hardware released in December. The New Hunters Pack comes in black/red or white/blue, and includes the game and an exclusive cleaning cloth, for &yen;19,800 ($238). It'll be released on February 10.<br />
<br />
Finally, the <a href="http://www.jp.playstation.com/info/release/nr_20110106_psp_girls.html">PSP Value Pack For Girls</a> isn't bundled with, or themed for, any particular game. It's just ... "for girls." Which means, of course (sigh) that it's pink. It also includes a carrying case with a little bow on it, a pink cleaning cloth, and pink earbuds. It's also &yen;19,800, and will be released on Feb. 17.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/01/06/dissidia-monster-hunter-portable-3rd-and-for-girls-psp-bundl/">Dissidia, Monster Hunter and 'For Girls' PSP bundles dated in Japan</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 06 Jan 2011 21:00:00 EST. If you haven't picked up a PSP system yet, the upcoming <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/invizimals"><em>Invizimals</em></a> Entertainment Pack may be the best bundle offered by Sony so far. Why? Unlike every other bundle , this includes an extra piece of hardware: the ever-elusive PSP camera. The "Vibrant Blue" color ain't too shabby, either. According to retail listings on <a href="http://www.gamestop.com/Catalog/ProductDetails.aspx?product_id=80504">Gamestop</a> and <a href="http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B003O6N1QC?ie=UTF8&amp;tag=prey0f&amp;linkCode=as2&amp;camp=1789&amp;creative=390957&amp;creativeASIN=B003O6N1QC">Amazon</a>, the $199.99 package includes:<br />
<ul>
    <li>PSP-3000 system (Vibrant Blue)</li>
    <li>Invizimals UMD Game</li>
    <li>Camera</li>
    <li>1GB Memory Stick PRO Duo</li>
    <li>Downloadable Movie PSN Voucher -- "Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs"</li>
    <li>AC Power Cord</li>
    <li>AC Adaptor</li>
    <li>Battery Pack</li>
</ul>
Both retailers have the bundle listed for October 12th release. If you own a PSP Go, you may want to consider picking up this bundle -- as of now, there's <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/07/07/eyepet-psp-and-invizimals-may-not-support-psp-go-in-north-americ/">no confirmation</a> if <em>Invizimals</em> will even work on the Go system.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/09/27/invizimals-psp-bundle-includes-vibrant-blue-system-and-camera/">Invizimals PSP bundle includes 'Vibrant Blue' system and camera</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Mon, 27 Sep 2010 10:05:00 EST. In addition to the <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/08/02/god-of-war-ghost-of-sparta-coming-nov-2-alongside-psp-hardware/">God of War: Ghost of Sparta</a></em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/08/02/god-of-war-ghost-of-sparta-coming-nov-2-alongside-psp-hardware/"> Entertainment Pack</a>, Sony has announced a bundle that includes <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/madden-nfl-11"><em>Madden 11</em></a>. If you still need a PSP before you're <em>ready for some football</em>, this is for you!<br />
<br />
The <em>Madden</em> bundle doesn't come with a PSP in a unique color scheme -- it simply includes the Piano Black PSP-3000. But what it does come with is an effectively free copy of <em>Madden</em>. The whole bundle sells for $170, the same price as the PSP alone. (You don't have to be one of football's best coaches to recognize the appeal of that strategy.) The bundle will be available alongside standalone versions of <em>Madden 11</em> next Tuesday, August 10.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/08/02/madden-11-psp-bundle-touches-down-august-10-for-170/">Madden 11 PSP bundle touches down August 10 for $170</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Mon, 02 Aug 2010 14:20:00 EST. In addition to the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/03/16/north-america-getting-its-own-metal-gear-solid-peace-walker-psp/">previously-announced set</a> containing the "spirited green" PSP, GameStop is also exclusively offering the "<a href="http://www.gamestop.com/Catalog/ProductDetails.aspx?product_id=77627">Big Boss Bundle</a>," which, for $200, includes the game and the camouflage PSP-3000 found in the Japanese bundle; in addition to a 4GB memory stick and a carrying case (neither of which is included in the <a href="http://www.gamestop.com/Catalog/ProductDetails.aspx?product_id=77469">standard bundle</a>, which is also $200). Both hardware bundles also include a free digital copy of imminent disaster flick <em>2012</em> ... for some reason.<br />
<br />
So, the Big Boss Bundle is more stuff for the same price. You'd have to <em>really</em><u> </u>hate camo to opt for the other <em>Peace Walker</em> bundle. Both are scheduled for release on June 8.<br />

But it <em>does</em> include a <a href="http://playstation.joystiq.com/2009/01/26/japan-getting-carnival-color-psp-systems/">"Spirited Green" PSP-3000</a>, a color previously unavailable in America. It <em>doesn't</em> include a PSP Go, so we're guessing the "<a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/02/01/rumor-psp-go-relaunch-in-the-works/">relaunch</a>" hasn't begun yet.<br />
<br />
Launching alongside the standalone game on <strike>May 25</strike> June 8, the pack includes said green PSP, a copy of the game on UMD, a 2GB Memory Stick Pro Duo, and vouchers for both an unidentified movie download (for US residents only) and exclusive in-game items in <em>Peace Walker</em>, for $199.99.<br />
<br />

After completing 2009 with redesigned hardware and several high-profile games (including <em>Assassin's Creed: Bloodlines</em>, <em>MotorStorm: Arctic Edge</em> and <em>LittleBigPlanet</em>), the PSP platform is looking for another strong lineup to carry it until the end of another year. Sony's senior vice president of publisher relations, <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/rob-dyer">Rob Dyer</a>, told <a href="http://www.industrygamers.com/news/psp-to-see-big-big-titles-this-year-promises-sony/">Industry Gamers</a> that third parties will provide a "very robust lineup" in 2010 -- albeit one that has to face a very old problem.<br />
<br />
"I think we had a great lineup last year. The biggest problem that plagued PSP was piracy; we have not been able to slow that down," Dyer said. "We think we have some answers going forward, but we're not ready to talk about that publicly at this point. So we're working on fixing that, because that's been a big problem. Publishers, when they put out good games, are not getting the same sales results that they got a few years back. So piracy's been a big issue and we're working on that very diligently to bring about some solutions."<br />
<br />
Some solutions include the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/psp-go">PSP Go</a>, which focuses on digitally acquired games (through the PlayStation Store, of course!) and -- as recently demonstrated by third-person shooter <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/02/17/socom-fireteam-bravo-3-requires-psn-activation-for-online-play/">SOCOM Fireteam Bravo 3</a> --</em> a form of potentially consumer-unfriendly online activation. And while Sony appears pleased with the platform's longevity, six years is a long time to still be tinkering with anti-piracy experiments. <br />
<br />
"We're into the sixth year now on the platform, and that's a long time for a handheld," Dyer noted. "I think given where we're at right now, we're doing very, very well. But yes, the business has had problems and I think it all stems, candidly, from the piracy."<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/02/22/sony-teases-very-robust-2010-for-psp-which-still-struggles-wi/">Sony teases 'very robust' 2010 for PSP, which still struggles with piracy</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Mon, 22 Feb 2010 15:35:00 EST. The Jill Stuart Sweet Limited Package includes the new <a href="http://playstation.joystiq.com/tag/spring-blossom-pink/">Spring Blossom Pink PSP</a>, a 4GB Memory Stick, and a cleaning cloth and carrying case (or "Limited Porch" as the <a href="http://www.jp.playstation.com/psp/blossom_pink/">website</a> names it) by Jill Stuart. It will be released in Japan March 4 for &yen;21,000 ($232).<br />
<br />
Attentive readers may notice that, like the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/01/21/metal-gear-solid-peace-walker-psp-bundles-revealed/"><em>Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker</em> limited edition</a>, this limited edition contains a PSP 3000 and <em>not</em> the newer <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/psp-go">PSP Go</a>. In the same press release, Sony announced "Value Packs" for the PSP-3000, also containing 4GB Memory Sticks, cleaning cloths, and pouches, without the Jill Stuart Styling, for &yen;19,800 ($219). Piano Black, Spring Blossom Pink, and Vibrant Blue systems will be available in that bundle.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/02/02/limited-edition-jill-stuart-psp-is-sweet/">Limited Edition Jill Stuart PSP is sweet</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 02 Feb 2010 12:15:00 EST. Now that Konami has released images of both camo PSP sets, nothing is stopping us from our blissful retail fantasies. Can't you just <em>imagine </em>buying one?<br />
<br />
Like the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2006/10/30/metal-gear-psp-bundles-exposed/"><em>Portable Ops</em> packs</a> before them, these are two different bundles. The &yen;26,980 (~$295) "<a href="http://www.konamistyle.jp/ecitem/item63668.html?style=20100121top">Premium Package</a>" includes a PSP-3000, <em>Peace Walker,</em> a camouflage cleaning cloth (so you can remove fingerprints from the screen <em>incognito</em>), a carrying case, and a wrist strap. The &yen;36,980 (~$400) "<a href="http://www.konamistyle.jp/ecitem/item63608.html?style=20100121top">Konamistyle Package</a>" (pictured above), only available from Konami's website, includes the same PSP and cleaning cloth, a leather case and strap, a neat-looking, numbered PSP stand, numbered dog tags, and a booklet.<br />

Konami is looking to release a pair of new <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/metal-gear-solid-peace-walker"><em>Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker</em></a> bundles in Japan. There will be two options: an expensive bundle featuring a custom PSP-3000 emblazoned with skulls, a copy of the game, a carrying case and a cleaning cloth -- all together costing 26,980 yen ($296). Then there's an even more expensive bundle that features everything in the first bundle, but also tosses in a custom strap, an original PSP stand, some dog tags, and a few other unrevealed items. The latter package (only 1,974 of which are being produced) will be available exclusively through the <a href="http://www.konamistyle.co.jp">KonamiStyle website</a> for 36,980 yen ($405). You'll be able to grab either (or both, if you're <a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I-VYAhL2OoQ">Richie Rich</a>), when the game releases on March 18.<br />
<br />
There hasn't been mention of any kind of custom bundle for the U.S., but considering <a href="http://playstation.joystiq.com/2008/06/17/ign-compares-all-the-psp-bundles/">past bundles</a>, we'd say it's a safe bet to go ahead and assume one is coming our way. Commence Operation Finger Cross ... now!<br />

Because you're worth it, Sony is introducing the "Spring Blossom Pink" PSP to Japan this March. This &yen;16,800 ($183) model elegantly calls out, "easy, breezy <em>and beautiful</em>." Due to its soft effortless features, it's the type of PSP that will have commuters asking, "Maybe she's born with it?" <br />
<br />
If this latest PSP-3000 color does jet set across the pacific, we'd be shocked if it wasn't bundled with the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/02/24/new-hannah-montana-psp-bundle-includes-lilac-psp/">tween girl du jour</a>.<br />

Every major Square Enix release comes with a limited edition hardware bundle in Japan. The upcoming PSP-exclusive <em>Kingdom Hearts</em> prequel is no different. This <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/birth-by-sleep"><em>Birth by Sleep</em></a> silver PSP-3000 will be available on January 9, 2010 for &yen;22,000 (about $250). Unlike other LE bundles, this package only contains the branded PSP system you see above and a copy of the game.<br />
<br />
We're a little disappointed that Square and Sony didn't make a special edition PSP Go bundle, as that's something we'd love to see. Perhaps that's being set aside for when Square Enix finishes its other big PSP games: <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/the-3rd-birthday"><span style="font-style: italic;">The 3rd Birthday</span></a> and <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/agito/"><span style="font-style: italic;">Final Fantasy Agito XIII</span></a>.<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/11/17/heres-the-requisite-kingdom-hearts-psp/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Here's the requisite Kingdom Hearts PSP</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/11/17/heres-the-requisite-kingdom-hearts-psp/">Here's the requisite Kingdom Hearts PSP</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 17 Nov 2009 17:15:00 EST. Further proving that digital distribution is the new name of its game ... distribution method, Sony will begin <a href="http://www.scei.co.jp/corporate/release/091104a_e.html">selling a new PSP-3000 bundle</a> in Japan on December 3 which includes no extra UMDs, but rather, a 4GB memory stick. An <em>empty</em> 4GB memory stick, upon which video games, once purchased, can be placed.<br />
<br />
Though it somewhat defeats the pick-up-and-play accessibility of other game-infused bundles, at a price point of 19,800 yen, it should leave enough in Japanese gamers' pocketbooks to make a few PSN purchases.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/11/04/new-psp-3000-value-packs-coming-to-japan/">New PSP-3000 value packs coming to Japan</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 04 Nov 2009 11:45:00 EST. Without disclosing actual sales figures, Sony has found a way to trumpet last week's launch of the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/psp-go/">PSP Go</a>: In its first three days at retail (October 1-3), North American PSP platform sales soared by 300 percent over the previous week's figures. Again, we don't yet know the numbers -- but that's not even <em>the most important part</em> of the equation.<br /><br />Read it again: PSP <em>platform</em> sales soared by 300 percent. Whether the Go <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/10/07/independent-uk-retailer-boss-expects-psp-go-to-fail-miserably/">tanks</a> or not, it's got the PSP brand on consumers' wish lists again. "With several blockbuster games launching digitally and on UMD in the coming weeks -- from <em>LittleBigPlanet</em> to <em>Assassin's Creed: Bloodlines</em> -- we expect this momentum to continue and look forward to a strong holiday season for both the PSP Go and PSP-3000," SCEA corp. comm. director Patrick Seybold told <a href="http://www.gamasutra.com/php-bin/news_index.php?story=25562">Gamasutra</a>.<br /><br />The PSP Go currently retails for around $250, and its <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/09/30/retailers-pleased-with-psp-go-because-it-helps-sell-the-psp/">most compelling trait</a> could be that it highlights what a great deal the <blink><em>only $169.99</em></blink> PSP-3000 model is -- it plays all the same games, after all; from <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/psp-minis/">Minis</a> to full-game downloadables.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/10/08/psp-go-launch-generates-platform-sales-boost/">PSP Go launch generates 'platform' sales boost</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 08 Oct 2009 11:00:00 EST. Siliconera has gone through the effort of taking all the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/10/01/psn-thursday-all-systems-are-psp-go-for-a-massive-update/">PlayStation Store's</a> digitally distributed PSP game prices and comparing them to the current cost for a UMD hard copy through Amazon. The list is eye-opening, with the prices shifting -- sometimes dramatically -- between which retail outlet offers the better price. It should be noted that third-party retailers selling through Amazon, which are used for some of the prices in the list, can seriously skew results (especially with the shipping cost added). Sony had previously mentioned it seeks to maintain "<a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/09/23/sony-to-maintain-pricing-parity-for-downloadable-psp-games/">pricing parity</a>" between its digital and boxed titles.<br /> <br /> Go over to <a href="http://www.siliconera.com/2009/10/01/psp-digital-download-prices-compared/">Siliconera</a> to check out the full list. Oh, and if you'd like to see comparisons to retailers other than Amazon, why not offer your research services to them.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/10/02/siliconera-breaks-down-psp-game-prices-psn-vs-amazon/">Siliconera breaks down PSP game prices: PSN vs. Amazon</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Fri, 02 Oct 2009 16:15:00 EST. If a PSN Update <em>could</em> be a classified as a zombie invasion, consider this humble paragraph the red door keeping the horde at bay. Once you click past the break, be prepared for an update the likes of which you've never seen. It's big, it's scary and it's going to eat your brains ... in a good way.<br />

Despite word from a few European retailers that Sony's download-only handheld, the PSP Go, <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/09/16/dutch-retailer-boycotts-sale-of-psp-go/">won't be sold in their stores</a>, the company's UK product manager isn't afraid of poor sales. Even with no ability to read physical media (read as: nothing for retail to sell other than the console), and a &pound;224.99 price point ($362.07 -- <em>seriously</em>), Sony's Claire Blackhouse says retailers are happy to have the new console in their stores. "We were very aware of concerns when we went into it and I actually expected a lot more negative responses than we actually got," Blackhouse told <a href="http://www.gamesindustry.biz/articles/pspgo-sonys-plan-for-its-new-handheld-interview?page=1">GamesIndustry.biz</a>. "[The retailers] were really quite fine with it." <br />
<br />
Furthermore, she says that retailers see the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/06/02/sony-bringing-psp-go-october-1-for-249-in-north-america/">console launch this week</a> as a "way of getting people into the store," that those not able to afford the new hardware will "aspire to it" and "might buy the PSP 3000 instead." She even riffs on a PSP-ified family, where "dad might buy the PSP Go but the kids might get PSP 3000s." Sony's <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/08/04/omg-lilac-psp-sony-says-girlz-play-too/">180&deg; marketing shift</a> we've seen recently for the PSP 3000 certainly helps to serve as proof of the company's belief in this strategy. Only time will tell if it'll work.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/09/30/retailers-pleased-with-psp-go-because-it-helps-sell-the-psp/">Retailers pleased with PSP Go ... because it helps sell the PSP-3000</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 30 Sep 2009 12:53:00 EST. <br />SCEA has announced yet another addition to its growing lineup of PSP "Entertainment Pack" bundles. The upcoming <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/gran-turismo-psp"><em>Gran Turismo</em></a> pack joins <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/04/08/rock-band-unplugged-detailed-priced-and-dated/"><em>Rock Band Unplugged</em></a> and <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/08/04/omg-lilac-psp-sony-says-girlz-play-too/"><em>Hannah Montana</em></a> this October by packaging a "Mystic Silver" PSP-3000 with a UMD copy of <em>Gran Turismo</em>, downloadable white Corvette ZR1, 2GB Memory Stick, and vouchers for movie and music downloads from the PlayStation Store and Sony Music Pass.<br /><br />At $199, the limited edition bundle seems like quite a bargain, especially when you consider how much cheaper it is than a <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/psp-go">PSP Go</a>. The announcement of yet another PSP-3000 package reaffirms Sony's stance on supporting <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/04/16/sonys-john-koller-says-tangible-disc-still-important/">UMD as a format</a> -- but also places into doubt the viability of ending <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/08/31/sony-and-nintendo-increasing-effort-in-fight-against-piracy/">PSP piracy</a> any time soon.<br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/gran-turismo-portable/">Gran Turismo PSP</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/gran-turismo-portable/#2252130"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2009/09/3865588147_3b405447b8_b_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/gran-turismo-portable/#2248820"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2009/09/2009-08-17_04-29-00-7_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/gran-turismo-portable/#2248810"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2009/09/2009-08-17_04-29-00-12_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/gran-turismo-portable/#2179660"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2009/07/gtportablecoverart_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/gran-turismo-portable/#2056069"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2009/06/1p_02_car_spec_04_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/09/02/gran-turismo-psp-bundle-arrives-october-20-for-200/">Gran Turismo PSP bundle arrives October 20 for $200</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 02 Sep 2009 16:14:00 EST. Although the PSP Go is ready for the masses, Sony isn't giving up on the PSP-3000. No, Sony Japan is actually releasing <em>even more</em> colors for those that don't want (or can't afford) the all-digital PSP Go. The "<em>Gran Turismo</em> Racing Pack" will include a special limited edition black PSP-3000 with a very subtle GT logo on its front. (Really, look for it.) The bundle will also include <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/gran-turismo-psp/"><em>Gran Turismo</em></a> on UMD and special Polyphony Digital-inspired accessories, like a strap and pouch. No price has been revealed yet, but we guess Sony didn't want to announce <em>everything</em> in just one day, right?<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/08/18/japan-to-get-limited-edition-gran-turismo-psp-bundle/">Japan to get limited edition Gran Turismo PSP bundle</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 18 Aug 2009 22:00:00 EST. At <a href="http://joystiq.com/tag/gamescom-2009">GamesCom 2009</a>, Sony has <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/08/18/live-from-sonys-gamescom-press-conference/">announced</a> that it plans to bring three new PSP-3000 colors to Europe. The new colors will be "Turquoise" blue, "Lilac" purple, and "Blossom" pink. We're already <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/08/04/omg-lilac-psp-sony-says-girlz-play-too/">familiar with the lilac PSP</a>, thanks to its Girlz Play Too campaign. The other two are brand new colors (and not to be confused with the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/01/08/psp-receives-carnival-colors-in-asia/">carnival colors</a> that were released in Asia earlier this year). The turquoise PSP will be bundled with <em>LittleBigPlanet</em>, while the lilac PSP will be bundled with <em>Hannah Montana</em>, just like the US version.<br />
<br />
European girlz can finally get their hands on one this November.<br />

Like most PSP owners, we've definitely had our fair share of, "Why isn't there a second analog stick on here?" moments, fiddling in the air with our thumb for the phantom nub. And Sony knows that we want it, according to the most recent issue of <em>Game Informer</em> where Sony exec <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/shuhei-yoshida">Shuhei Yoshida</a> confirmed that the company "had a very serious discussion" on the subject, but ultimately decided against it due to worries over splintering the market.<br /><br />"The PSP Go is designed to be perfectly compatible with the PSP-3000 and all the games that released before that," Yoshida said. For him, it's not a question of improving future games' controls but keeping parity with previous PSP iterations. "We are talking about the mid-life cycle of this platform," he says. Considering the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2005/03/23/live-from-sonys-playstation-portable-launch-party/">PSP launched in the US</a> in March of 2005, it appears as though Sony is sticking to its <a href="http://playstation.joystiq.com/2008/03/26/ten-year-life-cycle-for-psp-promises-koller/2">10-year life cycle plan</a> for the handheld.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/07/22/sony-considered-second-analog-nub-for-psp-go/">Sony considered second analog nub for PSP Go</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 22 Jul 2009 11:35:00 EST. <br />A recent <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/psp-rental/2025355/full/">survey</a> seeks consumer interest in a PSP game rental service. With the PSP Go <strike>all but confirmed</strike> <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/psp-go">a possibility</a> and <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/04/13/rumor-patapon-2-wont-be-sold-on-umd-retail-to-sell-psn-vouche/">UMD on its way out</a>, a PSP that takes full advantage of the digital age and the <a href="http://joystiq.com/tag/psn-thursday">PSN</a> doesn't exactly sound like crazy talk. Plus, there's always going to be a <a href="http://joystiq.com/tag/gamefly">rental market</a>, so why shouldn't Sony take advantage of that?<br /><br />Depending on the terms and price, the idea of a direct rental service sounds like a potentially cost effective option for gamers during these hard economic times. Should it ever come to fruition, that is.<br /><br />[Thanks, MrEverdred01!]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/05/20/psp-survey-hints-at-game-rental-service/">PSP survey hints at game rental service</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 20 May 2009 12:20:00 EST. Sony Asia has <a href="http://asia.playstation.com/tw/cht/news/pressDetail/24189">revealed</a> two new striking "Carnival Color" PSP-3000 models for the region. The "Radiant Red" and "Vibrant Blue" handhelds will begin burning Asian retinas on January 17th for roughly $177 each. <br /><br />There's no word on whether these colors will make it to other regions; however, <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/ces-2009">CES</a> is currently going on, so there may be an announcement buried in the circus. Famous for its <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/10/30/psp-brite-is-impervious-to-hackers/">imperviousness to hackers</a>, the PSP Brite has now been hacked by one MaTiAz over at <a href="http://lan.st/showthread.php?t=1867">lan.st</a>. An exploit was supposedly found in the 2005 title <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/gripshift"><span style="font-style: italic;">GripShift</span></a> and has been described as "a buffer overflow vulnerability when loading savegames [sic]." It is now available for download, as well as an accompanying new SDK. Remember however, this exploit doesn't grant the all-important kernal access. <div align="left">We hope you're content with the current PSP, <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/10/21/scei-psp-brites-scanlines-caused-by-hardware-no-plans-to-fix/">scanlines and all</a>. While most hardware makers have historically begun R&amp;D on their next generation platforms just as - or even before - the current generation is hitting shelves, SCEE president, David Reeves, has said that Sony is not currently planning a PSP 2.<br /><br />Interviewed by MCV, Reeves admitted that, "there are currently no plans for a PSP2," adding, "I go to Tokyo quite a lot and no one has referred to it - I think they have their hands full at the moment."<br /><br />Reeves also addressed the thorny issue of PSP software (or, more specifically, the lack thereof), saying, "[PSP's] weakness...is its software." PlayStation's European boss chalks the situation up risky business, explaining of developers that "when it comes to placing their bets, have to choose PS3 and 360, then Wii, then DS, maybe even PS2 before PSP." He did not offer any details of how Sony is (hopefully) working to change this. Mr. Reeves, sir, you're not exactly instilling us with confidence.<br /></div>

<div align="left">A small update on the <a href="http://blog.us.playstation.com/2008/11/18/psp-firmware-v502-coming-soon/">PlayStation Blog</a> could mean big-ish things for the PSP homebrew scene. SCEA's Eric Lempel reports that PSP firmware 5.02 is due soon, and that it "improves system software stability during use of some features, including the PlayStation Store." Which, as all conspiracy theorists know, is code for "We're going to break your custom firmware."<br /><br />Of course, for the majority of PSP owners, there will likely be some actual improvements to system stability. It didn't take long now, did it? As of <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/10/30/psp-brite-is-impervious-to-hackers/">last month</a>, hackers and pirates have yet to to find a way to run custom firmware on the latest iteration of the PSP. Well, things have changed. Datel has unveiled to the world a "special mode battery" called the Lite Blue Tool which allows the PSP Brite to enter service mode. Once in service mode, you're home free, baby -- you can downgrade to the firmware version of your choice. The "crypto processor based battery" even has a built in LED power gauge and will sell for $29.99 come November 28th.<br /><br />[Via <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2008/11/18/psp-3000-finally-inevitably-hacked-by-datels-lite-blue-tool/">Engadget</a>]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/11/19/psp-brite-isnt-impervious-to-hackers/">PSP Brite isn't impervious to hackers</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 19 Nov 2008 13:00:00 EST. Out with one SKU, in with another. The <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/10/28/4gb-psp-entertainment-pack-will-no-longer-see-release/">4GB PSP Entertainment Pack</a> may be dead, but in its place is the <em>Ratchet &amp; Clank</em> Entertainment Pack. Wait, what? Yes, looks like Sony is offering two versions of the <em>R&amp;C</em> pack -- the current one offers a silver system and <em>echochrome</em>. The one releasing in December will include a <a href="https://www.amazon.com/dp/B001LJJZOQ?tag=prey0f&amp;camp=0&amp;creative=0&amp;linkCode=as4&amp;creativeASIN=B001LJJZOQ&amp;adid=1E2BH6K2X2T68SS8VKC1&amp;">black system</a> and <em>Everyday Shooter</em>. If you still had any doubt over Apple's plans to <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/09/09/new-apple-ad-touts-ipod-touch-as-best-portable-device-for-gamin/">launch an assault</a> on the portable gaming industry, VP of iPod and iPhone Marketing Greg Joswiak has made the company's intentions a bit more obvious. In an interview with <a href="http://www.t3.com/feature/t3-interview-with-apples-greg-joswiak">T3 magazine</a>, Joswiak touts the iPod Touch as the "future of gameplay" (and notes that current handhelds, PSP and Nintendo DS, are "in the past"). <br /><br />Beyond the interface and the wireless App Store, Joswiak said, "The 3D graphic power here [iPod touch] is significantly greater than what you have here [picks up Nintendo DS]. So this allows people to do significantly higher quality games."<br /><br />It all sounds well and good, but Joswiak doesn't address the pink, polygonal elephant in the room: the games themselves. The platform and hardware is great, but Apple's catalog doesn't yet have the muscle nor brand recognition that's driving sales of the PSP and the Nintendo DS (whose Wrestling name, we might add, is "The Money Printer").<br /><br />It's worth noting that a recent study by the NPD Group suggests smartphone (and particularly iPhone) gaming is <a href="http://www.gamedaily.com/articles/news/game-usage-increasing-on-iphone-smartphones-ndash-npd/?biz=1">growing dramatically</a>. Out of all the frightening images we've been subjected to this Halloween, this one easily ranks as the most terrifying. It's an intensely intimate view of the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/psp-brite">PSP Brite</a> (or PSP-3000 if you want to get all technical) and the screen that's drawn some <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/10/21/scei-psp-brites-scanlines-caused-by-hardware-no-plans-to-fix/">disapproving squints</a> in recent weeks. <br /><br />The folks at <a href="http://translate.google.com/translate?hl=en&amp;langpair=fr|en&amp;u=http://www.logic-sunrise.com/news-10136-l-effet-quot-scanline-quot-des-nouveaux-ecrans-psp-3000-et-psp-3004-explique.html">Logic-Sunrise</a> have apparently peered at the brighter screen (magnified by a factor of 40), pinning the blame for the perceived interlacing issue squarely on our ex-friend, the now horizontally lined, observable darker blue pixel. Oh, when we're done with you, pixel, you'll be <em>all</em> shades of black and ... well, blue.<br /><br />[Via <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2008/10/31/psp-3000-put-under-microscope-interlacing-issue-exposed/">Engadget</a>]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/10/31/face-to-interlace-up-close-view-of-psp-brite/">Face to interlace: Up-close view of PSP Brite</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Fri, 31 Oct 2008 18:00:00 EST. Sony's latest hardware revision, the PSP-3000 aka <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/psp-3000">PSP Brite</a>, is doing well in standing up against pirates, hackers and their tools. According to <a href="http://www.pspworld.com/sony-psp/accessories/youre-doing-it-wrong-hacker-misses-the-point-009445.php">PSP World</a>, previous exploits which allow access to kernel memory and firmware are now patched up -- no way getting in there now. <br /><br />Infamous hackers like <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/darkalex">Dark Alex</a> have yet to find a way through the PSP Brite's new specs. Other hackers are getting frustrated; take <a href="http://pinoypsp.com/index.php?PHPSESSID=5aaecf1528fe4d7eade27cab24eba711&amp;topic=200633.0">Royginald</a> from the Philippines who has swapped in the PSP Slim's CPU into a PSP Brite while keeping the screen and case intact. All that to run custom firmware and homebrew which doesn't even run properly because of <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/10/21/psp-3000-scanlines-a-hardware-feature-no-fix-planned/">signal output differences</a>. We wonder if Sony has finally found a solution to its custom firmware woes. <p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/10/30/psp-brite-is-impervious-to-hackers/">PSP Brite is impervious to hackers</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 30 Oct 2008 12:30:00 EST. Already have <em>Echochrome</em> on PSP, Ratchet &amp; Clank Size Matters on UMD, as well as the DVD and Blu-ray release of National Treasure 2: Book of Secrets? Yeah, us too (except for the National Treasure 2 part ... seriously, what's your problem?), which is why we're drinking early this morning. Sony's John Koller reports, via the PlayStation blog, that Sony has decided to nix the so-called <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/08/20/psp-3000-also-coming-to-north-america-this-fall/">PSP-3000 Core pack</a> in favor of just one option: the already available <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/psp-3000/988614/full/"><em>Ratchet &amp; Clank </em>Entertainment Pack</a>.<br /><br />The Core Pack was to be released in November with a 4GB Memory Stick (a boost from the R&amp;C pack's 1GB stick), an <em>Everday Shooter</em> PlayStation Network voucher and, of course, a PSP Brite in sleek "Piano Black" instead of "Mystic Silver," all for the same $199.99 asking price. If you're really just waiting for a black PSP Brite, Koller says the <em>Ratchet &amp; Clank</em> pack will be back in black (as well as silver) starting in December. Upshot: you can totally regift the stuff you don't want!<br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/psp-3000/">PSP Brite</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/psp-3000/#988541"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2008/08/psp-3000-1024-1_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/psp-3000/#988542"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2008/08/psp-3000-1024-2_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/psp-3000/#988544"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2008/08/psp-3000-1024-5_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/psp-3000/#988546"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2008/08/psp-3000-1024-3_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/psp-3000/#988547"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2008/08/psp-3000-1024-4_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><br />[Thanks, Gordon]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/10/28/4gb-piano-black-psp-brite-bundle-nixed-sticking-with-ratchet-and/">4GB Piano Black PSP Brite bundle nixed, sticking with Ratchet &amp; Clank pack</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 28 Oct 2008 08:51:00 EST. When the PSP Brite was <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/08/20/psp-3000-north-american-details/">introduced</a>, SCEA had plans for two bundles. The first, which is available in stores now, is the <em>Ratchet &amp; Clank</em> Entertainment Pack, which includes a silver PSP-3000, 1GB Memory Stick, a copy of <em>Ratchet &amp; Clank</em> and <em>echochrome</em> download for $199. The other option, which was originally supposed to be available in November was the 4GB Memory Entertainment Pack, which included a black PSP-3000, 4GB Memory Stick and a download of <em>Everyday Shooter</em> for $199.<br /><br />According to the PlayStation.blog, the 4GB Memory Entertainment Pack has been canceled before release. "SCEA has seen significant interest in the Ratchet &amp; Clank Size Matters PSP Entertainment Pack in North America, which includes the updated PSP-3000. As a result, we will be streamlining our PSP hardware lineup and will no longer be offering the previously announced 4GB Memory PSP Entertainment Pack."<br /><br />Sounds like a bad PR spin to us, but we'll manage. The <em>Ratchet</em> bundle looks like a good deal -- and as the post notes, a 4GB Memory Stick can be found on the cheap at many retailers.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/10/28/4gb-psp-entertainment-pack-will-no-longer-see-release/">4GB PSP Entertainment Pack will no longer see release</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 28 Oct 2008 00:00:00 EST. Did you read Play issue #171? If you did, you would've noticed a certain someone from a certain PSP fan blog talking about the recently released PSP-3000 (aka PSP Brite). The blogger in question talks about whether or not Sony upgraded the PSP system too quickly, and why the lack of a second analog stick is no big deal. "A lot of people [said] that Sony should 'fix' the PSP by adding a second analogue stick," says Yoon. "But that would fundamentally change the system, and potentially lock out owners of older models from upcoming games. As it stands, PSP owners, from the 1000 to the 3000 series, are all able to play upcoming games."<br /><br />To download the featured article, click <a href="http://www.anyo.org/psp/022_PLA_171.zip">here</a> (requires Acrobat Reader).<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/10/27/we-talk-about-psp-3000-in-play-magazine/">We talk about PSP-3000 in Play Magazine</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Mon, 27 Oct 2008 11:11:00 EST.
