	We may not have held a pumpkin carving contest this year, but that didn't stop <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/10/31/and-the-winner-of-the-pumpkin-carving-contest-is/" style="text-align: -webkit-auto; ">Joystiq pun'kin' veteran Dennis C.</a> from creating a hauntingly gorgeous gourd for us all to gaze upon. Recreating two of the most nerve-racking scenes from <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/Limbo" style="text-align: -webkit-auto; "><em>Limbo</em></a>'s forest area, this carved masterpiece serves as an example of just how impressively captivating a hollowed out dead thing can be when given to the right artist.<div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/dennis-cwiks-limbo-pumpkin/">Dennis C's Limbo Pumpkin</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/dennis-cwiks-limbo-pumpkin/#4569283"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2011/10/dscn9576_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/dennis-cwiks-limbo-pumpkin/#4569282"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2011/10/dscn9577_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/dennis-cwiks-limbo-pumpkin/#4569281"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2011/10/dscn9578_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/dennis-cwiks-limbo-pumpkin/#4569280"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2011/10/dscn9580_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/dennis-cwiks-limbo-pumpkin/#4569279"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2011/10/dscn9582_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div></div><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/10/30/limbo-pumpkin-is-as-eerie-and-beautiful-as-the-game-itself/">Limbo pumpkin is as eerie and beautiful as the game itself</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Sun, 30 Oct 2011 18:30:00 EST. When planning a fun way to celebrate the fall season, we believe the early settlers tried a variety of creative, yet failed, traditions:<br />
<ul>
	<li>
		Asparagus-eating contests</li>
	<li>
		The entire town acting out Hamlet at the same time, with their own grandfathers' skulls playing the part of Yorick</li>
	<li>
		Jumping off a 60-foot cliff into a pile of dead leaves</li>
	<li>
		Grave-robbing (that one stuck, but it became year-round and highly lucrative in a non-spiritual way)</li>
	<li>
		Eggplant, leek, corn and lentil carving</li>
</ul>
Most of these died out with the maypole, but that last one may have led us to the modern fascination with pumpkin carving, which has now led us to these beautiful video-game-inspired pumpkins from <a href="http://ceemdee.imgur.com/">ceemdee</a>. This year's pumpkins feature <em>Bastion</em>, <em>Doom 2</em>, <em>The Dig</em>, <em>Worms</em>, <em>Oregon Trail</em>, <em>Outlaws </em>and <em>Magicka</em>. Apparently ceemdee has been doing this since 2009, and the <a href="http://ceemdee.imgur.com/">squashy backlog</a> is just as impressive.<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/10/14/these-gaming-pumpkins-are-a-real-treat-no-trick/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>These gaming pumpkins are a real treat, no trick</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/10/14/these-gaming-pumpkins-are-a-real-treat-no-trick/">These gaming pumpkins are a real treat, no trick</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Fri, 14 Oct 2011 18:30:00 EST. <br /><strong>Update:</strong> The entry period has closed.<br /><br />It's that time of the year again -- when it's <em>OK</em> to show some video game spirit. Like, <em>a lot</em> of spirit. In between sewing your <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/08/25/pax-07-cosplay-is-why-we-bring-cameras-to-conventions/" target="_blank">man-sized Peach dress</a> and gluing together that Spartan Laser, why not take a break to do some carving?<br /><br />That's right, welcome to The 2009 Joystiq Pumpkin Carving Contest! Submit pictures of your video game-themed pumpkin carvings for a chance to win a pile of games. Just follow the 8 simple rules after the break.<br /><strong><br />Update:</strong> We're posting entries in the gallery below (note: finalists will be selected and featured in a separate gallery).
