A handful of these games were already available on the Wii U, via the Virtual Console's <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2013/01/23/classic-games-available-for-30-cents-on-wii-u-eshop-balloon-fig/">early preview</a>.<br /><br />If you've forgotten what all of these games look like (it has been a long time, after all), check out some screens on the <a href="https://www.facebook.com/media/set/?set=a.482584481809430.1073741829.322374604497086&amp;type=1">Wii U Facebook</a> page. Each month, Nintendo will release a classic game at a special $.30 price, for 30 days until the next eligible game debuts. Today, Nintendo released the schedule for the discount promotion:<ul> <li> February 20: <em>F-Zero</em> (SNES)</li> <li> March 20: <em>Punch-Out!!! Featuring Mr. Dream</em> (NES)</li> <li> April 17: <em>Kirby's Adventur</em>e (NES)</li> <li> May 15: <em>Super Metroid</em> (SNES)</li> <li> June 12: <em>Yoshi</em> (NES)</li> <li> July 15: <em>Donkey Kong</em> (NES)</li></ul>The <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/virtual-console">Virtual Console</a> doesn't officially launch on the Wii U <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2013/01/23/virtual-console-headed-to-wii-u-launching-after-spring-update/">until this spring</a>, Nintendo president Satoru Iwata revealed during the latest Nintendo Direct event last week. Despite that, <em>Balloon Fight</em> as well as several other games can be acquired through the Wii U eShop.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2013/01/28/nintendo-reveals-exact-dates-for-wii-u-virtual-console-trial-cam/">Nintendo reveals exact dates for Wii U Virtual Console Trial Campaign games</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Mon, 28 Jan 2013 23:30:00 EST. He's currently halfway to his goal of $25,000, with 20 days left to go. We'd heard about this project a week ago, but were concerned about giving it attention, since it was sure to activate Nintendo's ever-ready lawyers.<br /><br />"Haha. I want to activate their attorneys because at least I'll know where I stand! Plus it's currently at the proposal stage, so 'no harm no foul'," Lanciana told us. "The passion behind the project was to print myself a copy, which I've done. Getting it to a wider audience would be great, but if it's crushed by Nintendo I won't mind at all as I would have given it my best shot."<br /><br />Asked how the project was coming along otherwise, he told us the community has been overwhelmingly supportive and it looks like he'll hit the funding goal.<br /><br />"The decision to make the book was just something I'm kinda compelled to do. I have a knack for finding, absorbing and simplifying info on any topic that interests me...and there's a lot that interests me. Applying that information to a beautifully designed book makes it meaningful and gives closure."<br /><br />We wish Daniel all the best, as the lawyers should be contacting him in 3...2...1...<br /><br />[Thanks Eric!]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/09/11/mike-tysons-punch-out-kickstarter-compendium-is-neat-if-it-g/">Mike Tyson's Punch-Out!! On 3DS, you can experience the thrill of being beaten severely by enormous people in <em>Punch-Out!!</em> And on Wii ... pretty much the same thing (beatings, enormous humans) from a different perspective in <em>King of Fighters '97</em>.<br /><br />DSiWare now features <em>Zuma's Revenge</em>, just the latest in PopCap's widespread assault on every platform ever.<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/03/08/nintendoware-weekly-punch-out-king-of-fighters-97/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>NintendoWare Weekly: Punch-Out!!, King of Fighters '97</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/03/08/nintendoware-weekly-punch-out-king-of-fighters-97/">NintendoWare Weekly: Punch-Out!!, King of Fighters '97</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 08 Mar 2012 14:00:00 EST. This Thursday, 3DS owners (even non-Ambassadors) can buy the NES <em>Punch-Out!!</em> -- the Mr. Dream version, of course. It'll be followed a week later by a trio of Sega Game Gear games, including <em>Shinobi</em>, <em>Sonic Triple Trouble</em>, and <em>Dragon Crystal</em>.<br /><br />There's also <em>new</em> new stuff coming to eShop. <em>Ketzal's Corridors</em>, coming "soon," seems to be the game known in Japan as <em>Speedthru</em>, a 3D puzzle game like the Wii's <em>ThruSpace </em>-- in which players rotate Tetris-like shapes to go through oncoming walls. In April, the DS homebrew drawing app <em>Colors!</em> becomes a for-real, official thing on 3DS as <em>Colors! 3D</em>. Other releases include <em>Fun! Fun! Minigolf Touch!</em> and a demo for <em>Rhythm Thief</em>. Find the full schedule after the break.<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/03/06/3ds-eshop-releases-punch-out-on-march-8-game-gear-games-on-m/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>3DS eShop releases: Punch-Out!! on March 8, Game Gear games on March 15, more</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/03/06/3ds-eshop-releases-punch-out-on-march-8-game-gear-games-on-m/">3DS eShop releases: Punch-Out!! on March 8, Game Gear games on March 15, more</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 06 Mar 2012 12:15:00 EST. Faced with drooping sales and waning retail interest in its platforms, Nintendo's been exercising its price-cutting muscle with some regularity. Before the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/07/28/3ds-price-drops-to-170-on-august-12/">unexpected 3DS price cut</a>, there was the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/05/04/wii-drops-to-150-on-may-15-bundled-with-mario-kart-and-wheel/">$50 Wii price cut</a> that also included a bundled copy of <em>Mario Kart Wii</em> and the Wii Wheel accessory. At the same time, Nintendo introduced the budget-priced <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/nintendo-selects/">Nintendo Selects</a> game lineup and, on August 28, it's dropping four more games to the $19.99 price point.<br />
<br />
<em>Super Paper Mario</em>, <em>Mario Strikers Charged</em>, <em>Punch-Out!!</em>, and <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/super-mario-galaxy/"><em>Super Mario Galaxy</em></a> join <em>The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess</em>, <em>Animal Crossing: City Folk</em>, <em>Mario Super Sluggers</em>, and <em>Wii Sports</em> in the bargain aisle. While it's hard to argue with the new, lower price, our secret, inner box-art snob wonders, "Is a measly $30 savings worth the shame of having <em>that</em> on the game shelf?" A look at the art for the latest Nintendo Selects selections is after the break.<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/08/16/nintendo-selects-budget-line-adds-super-mario-galaxy-punch-out/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Nintendo Selects budget line adds Super Mario Galaxy, Punch-Out!!, and more</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/08/16/nintendo-selects-budget-line-adds-super-mario-galaxy-punch-out/">Nintendo Selects budget line adds Super Mario Galaxy, Punch-Out!!, and more</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 16 Aug 2011 11:15:00 EST. You might find College Humor's latest <a href="http://www.collegehumor.com/video:1938370">video game parody clip</a>, posted just past the jump, a hilarious look at what <em>might have been</em> had classic games been laughably more accessible. We see it as a haunting vision of things to come. That easy mode included in <em>Mega Man 10</em>? <em>That's</em> <em>how it all starts</em>.<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/07/09/college-humor-reveals-the-super-easy-modes-of-classic-games/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>College Humor reveals the 'super easy' modes of classic games</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/07/09/college-humor-reveals-the-super-easy-modes-of-classic-games/">College Humor reveals the 'super easy' modes of classic games</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Fri, 09 Jul 2010 07:00:00 EST. <div style="text-align: left;">Several Joysitq staffers were pleased to discover that the 2009 Club Nintendo rewards have begun to arrive today. For those that need a reminder of <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/07/14/nintendo-reveals-american-club-nintendo-bonuses/">what the gifts are</a>, Platinum members got to choose between a <em>real life</em> Mario hat or a download of <em>Doc Louis's Punch-Out!!</em>, a special version of <em>Punch-Out!!</em> featuring Little Mac's trainer, Doc Louis. Meanwhile, Gold members were limited to one gift, a 2010 Nintendo calendar. Check out the gallery below for images of all the different gifts.<br />

Admittedly, the connection to video games in the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/Mega64/">Mega64</a> video we've embedded after the break is threadbare at best. Sure, it's a take off on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/punch-out"><em>Punch-Out!!</em></a> in theory, but it's basically just a guy yelling at people (not that we have a problem with that).<br /> <br /> Even though it's a bit of a stretch, we're happy that we get to post it, if only so you can watch as it devolves into madness at the end. Madness.<br /><p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/09/08/mega64-goes-into-the-ring-with-punch-out/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Mega64 goes into the ring with Punch-Out!!</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/09/08/mega64-goes-into-the-ring-with-punch-out/">Mega64 goes into the ring with Punch-Out!!</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 08 Sep 2009 10:00:00 EST. For fans of the NES' flagship pugilism sim <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/punch-out"><em>Punch-Out!!!</em></a>, the latest edition of <a href="http://us.wii.com/iwata_asks/punchout/vol1_page1.jsp">Iwata Asks</a> is chock-full of tidbits about the game that you probably didn't know. For instance, Nintendo Entertainment and Analysis Division's Makoto Wada reveals a long-hidden secret that makes fights against Bald Bull go much easier. Also, <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Punch-Out!!#Other_boxers">Glass Joe</a>? <em>He's got osteoporosis</em>. Yeah, you should feel bad. <em>Poor guy</em>.<br /><br />However, the most entertaining unearthed secret is the fact that <a href="http://us.wii.com/iwata_asks/punchout/vol1_page4.jsp">Shigeru Miyamoto never signed off</a> on the use of Mario as the game's mustachioed referree. In Miyamoto's own words, "we didn't have an approval system when using Mario images back then and it went right past my check." The interview transcript adds that he laughed after saying this, but we imagine at least <em>one</em> stink-eye was shot across the table.<br /><br />[Via <a href="http://www.gamesetwatch.com/2009/08/punchouts_22year_secret.php">GameSetWatch</a>]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/08/09/mario-used-in-original-punch-out-without-miyamotos-permission/">Mario used in original Punch-Out without Miyamoto's permission</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Sun, 09 Aug 2009 16:30:00 EST. Nintendo Australia managing director Rose Lappin told <a href="http:// http://www.kotaku.com.au/2009/07/punch-out-to-hit-in-august-only-at-jb-hi-fi/">Kotaku AU</a> that Aussie gamers can expect <a href="http://joystiq.com/tag/punch-out"><em>Punch-Out!!</em></a> in stores late August, but <em>only</em> if those stores are JB Hi-Fi locations.<br /><br />"To be honest we didn't have a lot of requests for the game," Lappin said. "There's a few people ... there's a lot of noise but not a lot of sales, that sort of thing." JB Hi-Fi, Lappin suggested, was the only retailer that showed significant interest.<br /><br />But at least <em>Punch-Out!!</em> is getting <em>some</em> kind of release. Not so for <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/excitebots"><em>Excitebots</em></a>, which won't come out in Australia at all. Lappin told <a href="http://www.kotaku.com.au/2009/07/sorry-australia-no-excitebots-for-you/">Kotaku AU</a> that there just wasn't enough demand for the game from retailers <em>or</em> consumers.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/07/14/punch-out-exclusive-to-one-retailer-in-australia-excitebots-e/">Punch-Out!! exclusive to one retailer in Australia, Excitebots excluded entirely</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 14 Jul 2009 14:10:00 EST. It's tough being a super hero. If you're Dr. Doom and you're feeling down, you can just blow something up. If you're The Thing, well, all you can really do is look in a mirror and cry to yourself.<br /><br />That was before <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/punch-out"><em>Punch-Out!!</em></a>, though, with a new ad (courtesy of <a href="http://www.gamervision.com/gamer/coop/news/article/nintendo_punch_out_advertisement_a_marvel">Gamervision</a>) popping up in comics showing two beefy brawlers finding a proper outlet for their stress. Oh, we really wouldn't suggest playing with the Wiimote and Nunchuk, super guys. The game is way better with <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/05/18/joystiq-review-punch-out-wii/">the classic controls</a>.<br /><br />[Via <a href="http://kotaku.com/5294241/thing-hulk-spend-quality-clobberin-time-with-punch+out">Kotaku</a>]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/06/17/super-heroes-duke-it-out-in-punch-out/">Super heroes duke it out in Punch-Out!!</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 17 Jun 2009 20:00:00 EST. Some of the more experienced <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/punch-out"><em>Punch-Out!!</em></a> players probably know of the trick to defeating Spain's resident matador, Don Flamenco, in the original game. However, in the years between that title and his appearance in the new game, it would seem he has learned <em>nothing</em>. With some carefully timed punches, Little Mac can turn Flamenco into the best two-stepper this side of the MIssissipp'. Head past the break to watch the trick in action.<br /><br />[Via <a href="http://gonintendo.com/viewstory.php?id=83930">Go Nintendo</a>]<br />
<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/05/27/don-flamenco-punching-loop-intact-in-punch-out-for-wii/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Don Flamenco punching loop intact in Punch-Out!! for Wii</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/05/27/don-flamenco-punching-loop-intact-in-punch-out-for-wii/">Don Flamenco punching loop intact in Punch-Out!! for Wii</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 27 May 2009 15:00:00 EST. Is it enough to bring prodigal <em>Crossers</em> back into the Wii game? Well, only those who <em>love headgear.</em> We kind of think the protective boxing equipment looks <em>slightly</em> supervillain-esque, which is a bonus.<br />
<br />
From now until June 5, <em>Let's Go to the City</em> players who have WiiConnect24 on can get a gift of green boxing headgear just for turning the game on and checking their mail. The headgear will be stuffed into a letter. The item has yet to appear on the North American <a href="http://nintendo.joystiq.com/2009/03/22/nintendo-opens-na-animal-crossing-city-folk-dlc-hub/">DLC hub</a>, but we're confident American gamers will be able to protect their avatars' squishy heads soon.<br />

OK, so you may have already been exposed to this information (in fact, we've been holding off on talking about it to give you a chance to discover it on your own) but there's a super-secret boxer in the new <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/punch-out"><em>Punch-Out!!</em></a>. Now that the veil of secrecy has been lifted by pretty much every other site, though, we figure we might as well help you ruin the surprise for yourself if you're in to that sort of thing.<br /><br />So, take a peek below the jump if you dare, but, seriously, don't get mad at us if it's spoiled for you. It may not be a TKO, but <em>Punch-Out!!</em> on the Wii is certainly a knock-out. We've already entered the ring of public opinion with <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/05/18/joystiq-review-punch-out-wii/">our review</a>, but let's find out what the others in the <a href="http://www.metacritic.com/games/platforms/wii/punchout">peanut gallery</a> have to say about it. It appears that -- much like Little Mac -- the series has aged gracefully and found a nice fit on the Wii.<br />
<ul>
    <li><a href="http://wii.gamespy.com/wii/punch-out/984280p1.html">Gamespy</a> <strong>(90/100)</strong>: "<em>Punch-Out!!</em> is destined to become one of this generation's top classics, right up there with <em>Super Mario Galaxy</em>. It's one heckuva peace offering for Nintendo's jilted lifers, an elaborate brainteaser for everyone who picks it up, and absolutely the best <em>Punch-Out!!</em> to date. If you're <em>still</em> fishing for a reason to own a Wii, this is it."</li>
    <li> <a href="http://gameinformer.com/NR/exeres/A0C4B537-1267-41BA-83F4-38BE5F4E28E4.htm">Game Informer</a> <strong>(90/100)</strong>: "<span id="bodyText"><span id="bodyText_PresentationModeControlsContainer_placeHolderHtml">Despite these complaints, the single-player has always been the focus of <em>Punch-Out</em>, and Next Level delivers. What better way to show your buddy up than to totally annihilate the boxer that just KO'd him?</span></span>"</li>
    <li><a href="http://www.gamepro.com/article/reviews/210288/punch-out/">GamePro</a> <strong>(90/100)</strong>: "There's no denying it: <em>Punch-Out!!</em> is some of the most fun I've had on the Wii in quite some time. A spectacular trip down memory lane, <em>Punch-Out!!</em> manages to capture the old-school essence that made the 1987 original such a success, all the while integrating just enough new material to help it hold its own. While <em>Punch-Out!!</em> is by no means perfect, it's undoubtedly one of the finest arcade-inspired titles to grace store shelves in this "next gen" era, and is without a doubt worth any hardcore fight-fan's hard-earned cash."</li>
    <li><a href="http://www.gametrailers.com/gamereview.php?id=10340">GameTrailers</a> <strong>(85/100)</strong>: "It's disappointing that the motion controls are more a novelty than an effective way to play, but the personality, nostalgic nods, hidden goodies, and battle-tested, edge-of-your-seat gameplay demonstrate that some things never go out of style."</li>

It's been over 10 years since the last game in the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/punch-out"><em>Punch-Out!!</em></a> series -- <a href="http://nintendo.joystiq.com/2009/03/30/vc-in-brief-super-punch-out-snes/"><em>Super Punch-Out!!</em></a> on the SNES -- was released with a new visual style, a host of new boxers, and some new moves in Little Mac's repertoire. Nintendo has finally provided us with another installment in the series, now with motion-based controls, Balance Board support, and multiplayer. While it ultimately feels like the same game we've played before, it's hard to peg that as a bad thing.<br /><br />[Note: If you don't feel like battling a whole bunch of text, feel free to enjoy our video synopsis of <em>Punch-Out!!</em> by using your mouse bicep to punch-click <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/05/18/joystiq-review-punch-out-wii/#video">this handy link</a>.]<br />
<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/05/18/joystiq-review-punch-out-wii/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Joystiq Review: Punch-Out!! You know what's better than reliving your childhood by picking up Nintendo's new <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/punch-out"><em>Punch-Out!!</em></a>? Doing it for $10 less than the suggested retail price, that's what. If you agree, you'll be happy to know that Amazon is <a href="http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B001TOQ8K2?ie=UTF8&amp;tag=prey0f&amp;linkCode=as2&amp;camp=1789&amp;creative=390957&amp;creativeASIN=B001TOQ8K2">currently offering</a> the game for a mere $40. Looking at it purely from a punch-to-dollar ratio, that's a tremendous value. If you've yet to pre-order the game, head over to Amazon and lay your money down. Unless, of course, you're Bald Bull, in which case you'll probably just <em>charge</em> it.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/05/15/star-punch-10-off-punch-outs-retail-price-at-amazon/">Star punch $10 off Punch-Out's retail price at Amazon</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Fri, 15 May 2009 17:30:00 EST. Except that they have <em>Punch-Out!!</em> logos on them, which would be really weird and meta on Little Mac. In fact, now that we think about it, if you just <em>bought</em> a pink sweatshirt elsewhere, it would be <em>more</em> authentic.<br /><br />It wouldn't, however, be nearly as <em>rare</em>: the sweatshirts won't be made available for sale, according to the <em>Punch-Out!!</em> <a href="http://twitter.com/WVBABoxing/status/1788810644">Twitter account</a>. We all know that boxing is a rather physically demanding sport -- but rarely does anyone acknowledge the emotional toll it takes on participating pugilists. Take poor little Little Mac, former W.V.B.A. champ, whose remarkable achievements in the ring crumbled beneath the tremendous girth of King Hippo, setting the miniature boxer on a downward spiral that he wouldn't escape for 15 years.<br /><br />Now, with a little over a week between us and Little Mac's ringside return in <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/punch-out/"><em>Punch-Out!!</em> for the Wii</a>, he's getting back in shape with a bit of help from his bike riding den mother, Doc Louis. You can catch <a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dEaL8HqufFI">a short documentary/commercial</a> (documercial?) about the rise and fall of Mac after the break. It's pretty funny! As we read about the <a href="http://www.businesswire.com/portal/site/home/permalink/?ndmViewId=news_view&amp;newsId=20090505005605&amp;newsLang=en"><em>Punch-Out!!</em> Challenge</a> set for May 16 from 1 to 4 p.m., we couldn't help thinking about how times have changed. Back in the day, when <em>we </em>would hold a <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/punch-out"><em>Punch Out!!</em></a> tournament, it would be on the floor of Mark Fisher's rec room, not Rockefeller Center's Nintendo World store. And we wouldn't be facing off against one another, because it was a single-player game -- the only test was between Tyson and our own iron will.<br /><br />One thing hasn't changed though: You'll still receive a radical fake title for winning. But, for the record, we'd pass up Nintendo's World Video Boxing Association title for our Totally Laser Ninja Turtle World Punch Out Master award any day of the week.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/05/05/compete-for-punch-out-title-at-nintendo-world/">Compete for Punch Out!! title at Nintendo World</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 05 May 2009 14:16:00 EST. <br />Ladies and gentlemen, in this corner, we have some brand new multiplayer screens from Nintendo's <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/punch-out"><em>Punch-Out!!</em></a>. In this corner, um ... well, we have <em>more </em>multiplayer screens from Nintendo's <em>Punch-Out!!</em>. You might ask why you would want to look at some static screens when multiplayer was already showcased in a <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/04/13/punch-out-trailer-introduces-giga-mac-multiplayer-mode/">recent trailer</a>. We might respond by saying that you have a good point.<br /><br />But hey, this one has Miis in it! Check out the other screens, complete with the 'roided out Giga Mac, in the gallery below.<br /><br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/punch-out-multiplayer-wii/">Punch-Out!! multiplayer (Wii)</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/punch-out-multiplayer-wii/#1511690"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2009/04/punch-out-head-to-head_05_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/punch-out-multiplayer-wii/#1511689"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2009/04/punch-out-head-to-head_04_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/punch-out-multiplayer-wii/#1511688"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2009/04/punch-out-head-to-head_03_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/punch-out-multiplayer-wii/#1511687"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2009/04/punch-out-head-to-head_08_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/punch-out-multiplayer-wii/#1511686"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2009/04/punch-out-head-to-head_02_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/04/22/bull-charge-these-punch-out-multiplayer-screens/">Bull charge these Punch-Out!! multiplayer screens</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 22 Apr 2009 17:00:00 EST. Wow, writing that headline was as close as we've ever come to being Perez Hilton. What an odd moment. Oh, but anyway, G4's <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/morgan-webb">Morgan Webb</a> was on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/jimmy-fallon">Jimmy Fallon</a>'s show last night and she brought along the new Wii version of <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/punch-out/">Punch-Out!!</a></em>.<br /><br />So now, just a paragraph after feeling like Perez Hilton, we're going to tell you that if you check after the break, you can watch Jimmy Fallon fighting King Hippo as Morgan Webb, Ice-T and Elmo look on. ... This is turning out to be a <em>really</em> weird Thursday.<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/04/16/morgan-webb-plays-punch-out-with-jimmy-fallon/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Morgan Webb plays Punch-Out!! with Jimmy Fallon</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/04/16/morgan-webb-plays-punch-out-with-jimmy-fallon/">Morgan Webb plays Punch-Out!! with Jimmy Fallon</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 16 Apr 2009 11:30:00 EST. Nintendo has officially announced (via <a href="http://www.gametrailers.com/player/47808.html?type=flv">GameTrailers</a>) an ... interesting looking ... multiplayer mode for upcoming Wii game, <em>Punch-Out!!</em> Hidden after a full minute of the <a href="http://nintendo.joystiq.com/2009/03/23/this-week-on-the-nintendo-channel-punch-out/"><em>Punch-Out!!</em> trailer</a> we've already seen is the <em>entirely new</em> minute, containing news of not only the modestly named "Head-to-Head" mode but also "Giga Mac" (pictured above).<br /><br />Gleaning what we can from the trailer, we're wont to believe that the large version of Little Mac is a direct product of well-placed punches filling up a "super" meter next to each players respective health bars. Nintendo clearly wants us to know the appearance of "Giga Mac" isn't a game ender for multiplayer, though, as even in the video (after the break) Little Mac prevails against his gargantuan twin. We're looking forward to finding out even more about <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/02/26/punch-out-uppercutting-wii-on-may-18/"><em>Punch-Out!!</em> when it arrives on May 18</a>.<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/04/13/punch-out-trailer-introduces-giga-mac-multiplayer-mode/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Punch-Out!! trailer introduces 'Giga Mac,' multiplayer mode</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/04/13/punch-out-trailer-introduces-giga-mac-multiplayer-mode/">Punch-Out!! trailer introduces 'Giga Mac,' multiplayer mode</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Mon, 13 Apr 2009 16:08:00 EST. Rest your worried head, friend, because <a href="http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B001TOMQXK?ie=UTF8&amp;tag=prey0f&amp;linkCode=as2&amp;camp=1789&amp;creative=390957&amp;creativeASIN=B001TOMQXK">Amazon.com</a> has an answer for you in <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/punch-out">Punch-Out!!</a></em> star Little Mac's Boxing Glove. You read that right -- not the game, but a <em>single</em>, signed boxing glove. <br /><br />Ignoring all reality and allowing for the possibility that a video game character physically signed this $90 glove, this "limited edition" punching package arrives mounted on a 15'' x 11'' wood frame and ships with an "engraved plate donning the <em>Punch-Out!!</em> logo." Head right on over to Amazon because supplies are assuredly going to run out ... less than quickly. Oh, and just in case we weren't clear enough initially: <em>Punch-Out!!</em> is <em>not included</em> when this glove becomes available on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/02/26/punch-out-uppercutting-wii-on-may-18/">May 18 alongside the game</a>.<br /><br /><strong>Update:</strong> Commenter <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/profile/918101/">heyo007</a> pointed out that Amazon also has a "<a href="http://nintendo.joystiq.com/2009/03/31/be-the-king-hippo-of-your-own-home-with-the-punch-out-heavywei/">Heavyweight Contender Kit</a>" as well, in case you were trying to round out your $90 Little Mac signed glove purchase with a $35 "inflatable desktop punching bag, King Hippo crown replica, boxer shorts and Doc Louis's Remedy chocolate bar" purchase.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/04/11/little-mac-signed-boxing-glove-90-on-amazon-without-punch-o/">Little Mac signed boxing glove $90 on Amazon ... without Punch-Out!!</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Sat, 11 Apr 2009 16:30:00 EST. Nintendo has sent over some new screens for next month's <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/punch-out"><em>Punch-Out!!</em></a>, depicting pretty much what you'll see in the game when it's spinning inside your Wii: Little Mac punching the <em>crap</em> out of <em>everyone</em>. Fan-favorites King Hippo, Von Kaiser, and Glass Joe make an appearance in our gallery below. But, there's also a surprise fight with newcomer <em>Disco Kid</em>. Check out the screens below, or point your cursor-fist towards the image above this post and punch-click it.<br /><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/04/10/dont-duck-and-dodge-these-new-punch-out-screens/">Don't duck and dodge these new Punch-Out!! screens</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Fri, 10 Apr 2009 15:00:00 EST. Craigslist provides <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/craigslist">another bit</a> of strange, gaming-related <em>news,</em> this time with <a href="http://newyork.craigslist.org/mnh/tfr/1085326434.html">EDP Casting</a> sending out a casting call for <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/Punch-Out/">Punch-Out!!</a></em> lookalikes. The post is looking for New York natives to fill the boxing gloves of Piston Honda, King Hippo, Great Tiger and, of course, Little Mac. The listing doesn't specify what the casting call is for but we'd like to dream the entire classic NES title would be put to music and run on Broadway -- with the help of <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Andrew_Lloyd_Webber">Andrew Lloyd Webber</a>, of course.<br /> <br /> If you think you've got the chops to jump into Mac's pink sweatsuit, make sure to take note that EDP is looking for someone with "real fire" in their eyes. So, you really have to <em>want</em> the part ... or at least undergo <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/media/2009/03/nightwatchfireineyes.jpg">some experimental surgery</a>.<br /> <br /> [Via <a href="http://gonintendo.com/?p=77253">GoNintendo</a>]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/03/31/casting-call-looking-for-punch-out-lookalikes/">Casting call looking for 'Punch-Out!!' lookalikes</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 31 Mar 2009 06:00:00 EST. Little Mac is definitely back, and he brought Doc Louis with him. He's also hauling a heck of a lot more pixels this time around, and we're happy to report that <em>Punch-Out!!</em> is indeed still fun to play. The Nintendo booth (the largest and lone major gaming publisher on the show floor) was showing off <em>Punch-Out!!</em> on a few stations, although sadly without the Balance Board functionality that's coming to the game.<br /><br />It did show off four of the thirteen total fighters, including Glass Joe, Von Kaiser, King Hippo, and the newcomer, Disco Kid. He looks like what you'd get if you crossed Mike Tyson with Ric Flair, and pulled him through a Disney movie animation wringer. He likes to primp, check himself out in a mirror, and pose for the crowd. Little Mac learned the lesson about the dangers of vanity long ago, so there's no such worry. Head after the break and start training, <em>Punch-Out!!</em> comes out on the Wii this May.<br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/punch-out-wii-1/">Punch-Out!! Already available <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/03/20/vc-friday-super-punch-out/">in Europe</a>, Virtual Console will get a <em>Super</em> update next Monday when Virtual Console updates with the SNES classic <em>Super Punch-Out!!</em>. For 800 Nintendo Points, you'll be able to relive the classic fights, preparing yourself for the upcoming Wii sequel.<br /><br /><a href="http://wii.ign.com/articles/965/965800p1.html">IGN</a> smartly notes that the last time <em>Super Punch-Out!!</em> was available was as an unlockable in the Gamecube version of <em>Fight Night</em>. This ain't your dad's <em>Punch-Out!</em> No, with Balance Board support, it'll be your mom's <em>Punch-Out!</em><br /><br />The Italian Nintendo site leaked details on the various control schemes found in the <a href="http://nintendo.joystiq.com/tag/punch-out">upcoming Wii-make</a> of Nintendo's classic boxing game. The first two modes are as-expected: play with the Wii Remote and Nunchuck to recreate the physical motion of boxing, or play with the Remote on its side to play it NES-style. The third mode documented takes advantage of the <a href="http://nintendo.joystiq.com/tag/balance-board"><em>Wii Fit</em> Balance Board</a>, allowing players to dodge attacks by shifting their weight. Coupled with the Wii Remote and Nunchuck, this mode should provide quite a workout.<br /><br />[Via <a href="http://wii.ign.com/articles/965/965812p1.html">IGN</a>]<br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/punch-out-wii-1/">Punch-Out!!
