Zynga ended 2011 in the red to the tune of $404.3 million, while the company has posted a net loss of just $209.4 million in 2012. Year-end revenues stacked up at $1.28 billion; a 12 percent increase over 2011.

The difference between Zynga's overall Q4 revenue in 2012 and 2011 is negligible: $311.1 million as compared with $311.2 million, respectively. Online game revenues were down by three percent year-over-year, while advertising revenue was up by 35 percent, cresting $36 million. Year-over-year net losses are dramatically different, however, with Q4 2012's loss of $48.5 million an 88 percent decrease from the $435 million loss posted in Q4 of 2011.

Looking forward, Zynga anticipates a net loss for Q1 2013, somewhere in the ballpark of $12 million to $32 million.
Zynga posts $209.4 million loss for 2012 originally appeared on Joystiq on Tue, 05 Feb 2013 20:30:00 EST. Yes, Killzone's 1-3 - which aren't places, but games - are getting boxed and bundled for the PlayStation 3 as "Killzone Trilogy," arriving this October. The first of the three games is even getting an HD makeover for its re-release, and all the multiplayer content for the latter two games is included in the package.

The whole shebang will run $39.99/€49.99/£40.84 when it arrives on October 23 in the US and October 24 in Europe. Originally set for September 18, the Compile Heart-developed game is now due on October 16. The European version will be released on September 28.

The latest trailer highlights Mugen Souls' battle system, which combines turn-based combat with free movement. It looks complicated and, as the trailer itself admits, overwhelming. You need that kind of power if you intend to conquer seven universes.

Gallery: Mugen Souls

Continue reading Mugen Souls sees a short delay and an 'overwhelming' trailer

Mugen Souls sees a short delay and an 'overwhelming' trailer originally appeared on Joystiq on Thu, 23 Aug 2012 16:00:00 EST. Tommo Inc. announced the handheld console's December 6 launch date for North America overnight, and put detail to the various pre-installed software it comes packed with (King of the Monsters and Samurai Showdown 2 are our personal highlights, but the full list of 20 games is below the break). The system also comes with the charging dock and joystick you see above, included in the $200 price.

Beyond being a handheld Neogeo - which, admittedly, is pretty neat -the system doubles as a home console and can be hooked up to TVs/monitors via HDMI or traditional RCA. As such, an external joystick works with the device (though we'd suggest keeping that joystick locked to your domicile rather than take it on the go).

It's unclear what retailers will carry the Neogeo X Gold just yet, but Tommo works with the usual brick-and-mortar suspects (Best Buy, Amazon, GameStop, etc.) Distribution in Europe and Asia is being handled separately, and no prices or dates are given for either territory.
Continue reading 'Neogeo X Gold' portable arrives this December for a whopping $200

'Neogeo X Gold' portable arrives this December for a whopping $200 originally appeared on Joystiq on Mon, 13 Aug 2012 04:40:00 EST. Right now, the best Slap Judo athletes in the world are going untested.
LittleBigPlanet Karting starts its engines November 6 originally appeared on Joystiq on Tue, 07 Aug 2012 09:00:00 EST. The new version includes information about "more than 640 Pokemon," along with a new Pokemon Challenge feature with a selection of quizzes to help cement knowledge of all those nonexistent creatures.

Pokedex 3D Pro is also updated with a price higher than "free" (which is what the original cost). In Japan, that's ¥1,500 ($19); Nintendo of America has not yet revealed the price stateside.

Nintendo also revealed a series of features in Pokemon Black Version 2 and White Version 2 related to connectivity; these include the "Memory Link" that allows you to "connect" the new game to a copy of Black or White and follow the activities of certain characters between the two games.
Continue reading Pokedex 3D Pro catalogs 'em all on Nov. 8

Pokedex 3D Pro catalogs 'em all on Nov. 8 originally appeared on Joystiq on Wed, 01 Aug 2012 10:00:00 EST. "The next version of our operating system, Windows 8, will be generally available on October 26, 2012. At that time, we will begin selling the Surface, a series of Microsoft-designed and manufactured hardware devices," the report reads.

The Surface launches in two flavors: Surface for Windows RT and Surface for Windows 8 Pro, the latter carrying beefier specs. It's unclear if both will launch simultaneously, and no pricing has been set on the two varieties of Surface. It'll debut at this weekend's Brooklyn Hip Hop Festival, which is attended by plenty of people who have experienced hip hop dance already.

Like last year's Black Eyed Peas Experience, Ubisoft has placed development in the hands of Elite Beat Agents creator iNiS. Unlike last year, however, we know iNiS is also working on an original music game, so this isn't as much of a crisis for iNiS fans.

Gallery: The Hip Hop Dance Experience

Continue reading Ubisoft dropping 'Hip Hop Dance Experience' like it's hot

Ubisoft dropping 'Hip Hop Dance Experience' like it's hot originally appeared on Joystiq on Thu, 12 Jul 2012 22:00:00 EST. The publisher announced this morning that Doom 3 "BFG Edition" - which includes "re-mastered versions" of Doom 3 and its "Resurrection of Evil" DLC, as well as the new content dubbed "The Lost Mission" - arrives on October 16 in North America and October 19 in Europe.

Should all that Doom 3 content not be enough, both Doom 1 and 2 are included in the repackaging, and the whole schebang runs $39.99 on 360/PS3, while it's $10 cheaper on PC. Of course, if you wanna play it in virtual reality, Lawnmower Man-style, that's gonna require a heck of a lot more money. And being friends with John Carmack would also help.
Continue reading Doom 3 'BFG Edition' bringing Hellspawn to retail on Oct. 16 in NA, Oct. 19 in EU

Doom 3 'BFG Edition' bringing Hellspawn to retail on Oct. 16 in NA, Oct. 19 in EU originally appeared on Joystiq on Tue, 19 Jun 2012 10:15:00 EST. Insomniac head (and general nice dude) Ted Price took to the US PlayStation Blog this afternoon to announce "Ratchet & Clank: Full Frontal Assault" for PlayStation Network, alongside plans to launch the game "this holiday season."

Aside from the artwork you see above and the logo we've dropped in the gallery below, Price offered few details on the game. He said it'll be a "fun-sized" R&C title (like Ratchet & Clank Future: Quest for Booty before it), and that the game will return to "the series' classic feel, camera, controls, and weapons, while innovating and giving you a whole new way to play." What that means is another question altogether. Price also said that the game will feature online co-op, but kept details similarly slim.

Gallery: Ratchet & Clank: Full Frontal Assault

Ratchet & Clank: Full Frontal Assault is Insomniac's next PSN game, arriving this fall originally appeared on Joystiq on Wed, 30 May 2012 12:30:00 EST. International release dates for the PS3/Xbox 360 mech game compilation have yet to be announced beyond "fall".

During the event, Hideo Kojima also announced that work has begun on a sequel currently codenamed "Enders Project." Kojipro is prototyping the game in its own Fox Engine, converting physical models into Fox Engine 3D models. The character model shown is more organic than robotic - it's the winsome fellow above, snapped by Famitsu.
Zone of the Enders sequel 'project' revealed; ZOE HD out in Japan Oct. 25 originally appeared on Joystiq on Fri, 25 May 2012 13:00:00 EST. Why, we remember when she was just an NPC in a PS2 game, cheering for us as we showed off in the batting cages ... they grow up so fast.

According to the summary of this Famitsu interview, Yakuza 5 has had double the development time of previous games, and features a new engine, allowing the game to move from battle scenes to adventuring "seamlessly." The game is reportedly set for a Japanese release this December.
Yakuza 5 due in Japan December 2012, has new engine originally appeared on Joystiq on Wed, 23 May 2012 11:30:00 EST. Take-Two is a publicly traded company, and one fewer gigantic product launch during the holiday season - arguably Take-Two's only holiday product launch, unless you count fall launches of Borderlands 2 and XCOM: Enemy Unknown as "holiday" - means that shareholders will want to know what's up. That worry is reflected in Take-Two's stock price, which took a five percent hit since the market opened this morning.

But when Infinite got pushed out of the holiday season, it opened the slot up for another high-profile Take-Two-published title: Grand Theft Auto 5. "In our view, the delay opens the window for Grand Theft Auto V to be released in October 2012," Michael Pachter of Webush Securities wrote in an email this morning, echoing a release window leak from earlier this year.

In his eyes, Infinite wasn't just delayed to make it "something even more extraordinary," as Ken Levine put it, but because the folks at Rockstar, "notified Take-Two that GTA V would be ready for October." He believes this resulted in Take-Two offering Irrational Games an extra few months to prepare BioShock Infinite. His logic? "The studio [Rockstar Games] has scheduled every prior GTA release during that month (with GTA IV delayed to April 2008, due to bugs in the PS3 version)."

Furthermore, Pachter and co. speculate we could hear more about GTA 5's launch date "as early as May 22" during a scheduled quarterly investor call, or perhaps in a few more weeks at E3 2012. We've yet to hear back from Irrational, Rockstar, or Take-Two on the subject.
Wedbush thinks Grand Theft Auto 5 will launch in October originally appeared on Joystiq on Wed, 09 May 2012 14:15:00 EST. Net revenue generated from digital sales nearly doubled year-over-year, $419 million in Q4 2012 as opposed to $211 million in Q4 2011 - a 98 percent increase.

Packaged goods still made up the majority of the publisher's revenue, however, at $949 million, up from $879 in Q4 2011. Net income for the period was also up year-over-year, $400 million for the period ending on March 31, 2012 as compared with $151 million for the same period in 2011. Naturally, EA contributes its successful fourth quarter to the release of Mass Effect 3 and the continued popularity of FIFA 12.

Fiscal 2012 as a whole presents a slightly different story. While net revenue was up 15 percent year-over-year ($4.14 billion in fiscal 2012 vs. $3.58 billion in fiscal 2011), net income fell 263 percent, from $276 million in fiscal 2011 to just $76 million in fiscal 2012.

Looking forward to fiscal 2013, EA expects an approximate net revenue of $4.07 billion, $950 million of which it expects to earn during the first fiscal quarter of 2013, which ends on June 30, 2012.
EA 2012 financials: Q4 revenue and income up year-over-year, 2012 revenue up, income down originally appeared on Joystiq on Mon, 07 May 2012 17:05:00 EST. The news comes one day after teasy tweets from Microsoft's Major Nelson indicated some form of collaboration between Microsoft and everyone's favorite freakishly tall late night host, Conan O'Brien, which sparked rumors of a potential launch date reveal.

Microsoft studios corporate VP Phil Spencer offered lofty goals alongside the launch date announce. "With Halo 4 leading the charge, we're confident 2012 will be the most successful year in Xbox history," Spencer said. He also pointed out that Halo 4 is just the beginning of Microsoft's renewed relationship with the Chief. "We are beginning a new saga with Halo 4 and embarking on a journey that will encompass the next decade of Halo games and experiences." Just no more cat helmets, Phil. That's all we ask.

Additionally, Halo 4 will appear in some form on tonight's episode of "Conan," which Microsoft described as nothing more than a "special segment."

Update: Red vs Blue created the charming short above to announce Halo 4's release date. Apparently, you get Resident Evil 6 trailers with Italian subtitles. This latest trailer pushes up Resident Evil 6's release date from November 20 to October 2.

In case you're in a situation that prevents streaming video, you should also know that the third protagonist (aka "the man who's told to save the world") is Albert Wesker's son. The trailer is rife with high-level RE drama, ending on a standoff between the perfectly coiffed Leon S. Kennedy and the significantly gruffer Chris Redfield. And no, there aren't any zombie presidents in this one. A brief press release from the publisher said that the DS sequels will arrive in North America this fall -- ensuring one more crazy holiday season for the Nintendo DS. Nintendo didn't offer any more details about the content of the games, or what it means to have a "Version 2" of a previously released Pokemon game.

Alongside this announcement, Nintendo issued slightly bigger character art of the new Black Kyurem and White Kyurem Pokemon -- but didn't label them! How will we ever figure out which is which?

Gallery: Pokemon Black Version 2/White Version 2 (DS)

Continue reading Pokemon Black and White Version 2 coming this fall to North America

Pokemon Black and White Version 2 coming this fall to North America originally appeared on Joystiq on Mon, 27 Feb 2012 09:30:00 EST. Game Informer's Jim Reilly spent the past half hour sharing some info, saying the game is called "Medal of Honor: Warfighter," is arriving this coming October, and runs in DICE's Frostbite 2.0 engine.

The info is apparently coming from a copy of OXM, which arrived a bit ahead of EA's intended marketing push, it would seem. Reilly also says the game's multiplayer will be handled in-house by EA Danger Close now, rather than DICE as was the case with 2010's Medal of Honor reboot.

Update: The Medal of Honor blog offered a teaser image of the game, confirmed the title, and teased more details in the coming weeks. Boom! Beyond a name and a distant release date (October 30), we don't have a damn clue. But that was all the information given today during an Ubisoft financials call hosted by company head Yves Guillemot. "Assassin's Creed 3 is the true next generation of both the Assassin's Creed brand and interactive entertainment/storytelling in general," Guillemot said of the game.

He went on to say that Ubi is investing in AC3 more than any past title in the franchise, and that he expects it to sell beyond the 7 million racked up by Revelations. The game has apparently been in development for three years according to Guillemot, which we're hoping means it's not set in Italy again. No other details were offered for now, and Guillemot added that we'll hear more about the game in the coming months.

We can guess that the upcoming game likely won't feature series star Ezio Auditore, as Ubi has claimed his trilogy is over. And it looks like this game will likely conclude the current story arc. Oh, and it's also possible that this is heading to Wii U, given that there's some form of AC title in the works for Nintendo's Wii successor. But that's all we got. We swear.
Assassin's Creed 3 arrives on October 30 originally appeared on Joystiq on Wed, 15 Feb 2012 12:42:00 EST. Players in Hawken will battle for survival and resources inside flying, rocket-equipped mechs in various regions of a barren industrial wasteland (or heaven, as we call it). Hawken is multiplayer only and will play in a session-based format similar to League of Legends, Le said.

For a further glimpse at Hawken's universe, hit up the video after the break, which displays desert gameplay. Resident Evil 6 is heading to the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 on November 20, 2012, with a PC release to follow, says Capcom. In it, returning favorites Leon S. Kennedy (the "S" stands for "Superhair") and Chris Redfield (tree arms from RE5) will play co-leads, each leading his own campaign through the US and China, respectively. The brand new trailer is just above.
Any of this sound familiar? That's probably because the next entry in the Resident Evil series was outed a bit earlier than its publisher expected this afternoon, when images of RE6 marketing were sent to IGN by a Gamestop employee. Subsequently, a flood of details about the unannounced game were unleashed by a couple different outlets regarding its gameplay, dev team, and characters.

Many of said details have been re-confirmed by Capcom in its own press release, though it's lacking in the specificity we reported earlier. The trailer, however, depicts a new martial-artsy character fighting various ... things (and people), some splashes of cover-based shooting, and a presidential zombie. And is that Ashley? Three words: Oh. Em. Gee.
Resident Evil 6 announced by Capcom, arriving November 20 on 360/PS3 with PC version later originally appeared on Joystiq on Thu, 19 Jan 2012 17:05:00 EST. "Resident Evil 6" may not be representative of the number of Resident Evil games that exist in total, but it looks to be the title of the next entry in Capcom's long-running zombie series. A retail poster spotted by one GameStop-employed IGN reader outs the title, a November 20, 2012, launch date on Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3, and a perfectly spooky drawing of the number six.

Additionally, GamesBeat purports to have insider info from a Capcomer in the know, who says that RE6 will star series vets Chris Redfield and Leon S. Kennedy. Everyone's favorite mysterious, violent lady, Ada Wong, is also rumored role in the yet-to-be-announced game. Scant other details were given, though it is said to be developed by an internal Japanese team at Capcom that's "aiming for a cross between the action/horror blend of Resident Evil 4 ... and the far more action-oriented Resident Evil 5."

After The Sixth Axis tracked down Capcom as the source of a recent viral ad campaign ("No Hope Left"), the company's US reps refused to comment on the meaning of the ads. At the time, it seemed likely that the faux graffiti was tied to the Resident Evil franchise given the stylized biohazard symbol found on the "o" in "No," but now it seems all the more likely to be tied to an announcement at 5PM ET today, lining up with a notably direct video added to the ad's website (found after the break). We'll be here at 5PM -- and beyond, of course -- to let you know if we hear anything more official.

Update 1: IGN is further reporting that both Chris Redfield and Leon Kennedy will be playable characters, each teaming up with "unnamed partners" for their own campaign branches -- branches that will apparently cross paths at some point in the game. Ada Wong is supposed to be playable at some point after completing both Leon and Chris' storylines, though a third unnamed character will also have a campaign that must be completed as well before Wong is accessible. All three campaigns will allegedly be available from the jump, allowing players to jump between stories. And finally, RE6 is supposed to be set "across the globe," with China mentioned specifically. This is all according to "sources within the development team."

Update 2: Capcom has since confirmed the game as heading to Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 on November 20 with a PC release to follow. Full story here.
Continue reading Rumor: Resident Evil 6 infecting 360/PS3 on Nov. 20 [update: it's legit!]

Rumor: Resident Evil 6 infecting 360/PS3 on Nov. 20 [update: it's legit!] originally appeared on Joystiq on Thu, 19 Jan 2012 16:32:00 EST. Perhaps the PlayStation Vita's leggy 5 inch screen just isn't enough for your dedicated gaming portable needs. Perhaps -- and this is just a theoretical, of course -- you think Sony's promise of console quality games on the Vita isn't nearly as important as full-on console games on the go. Enter Razer's "Project Fiona PC Gaming Tablet." It's merely a prototype (at least for now), but this may be the go-to portable for you at some point in the future, fictional crazy person.

Razer unveiled the prototype concept this week at CES, ending an ambiguous, weeks-long promotional campaign (seen after the break). According to a press release issued by the hardware company, the Project Fiona tablet comes with an Intel Core i7 processor, and is capable of running "current-generation PC games" -- Firefall, Assassin's Creed: Revelations and H.A.W.X. 2 are shown in the teaser, offering examples of some titles that will apparently work on the device -- surprise surprise, Ubisoft is jumping at the chance to showcase its wares on a new gaming device. Razer claimed in the announce that "many" PC games will "run natively" on the device without any need for specialization.

Beyond being a super powerful gaming tablet, Project Fiona also keeps up with the Joneses by including "ultra-precise accelerometers and a highly sensitive multi-touch screen," which is intended to give developers a chance to cater their PC games to the device. It also has now de rigeur forced feedback, so you can rumble while commuting.

Unlike Razer's previous gaming prototype, the Switchblade, the company isn't giving out a hard price for Project Fiona, but said it'll be "under $1,000" when it's expected to launch in "Q4 2012."

Gallery: Razer's 'Project Fiona' PC gaming tablet

Continue reading Razer's 'Project Fiona' is a gaming tablet prototype ... and it plays PC games

Razer's 'Project Fiona' is a gaming tablet prototype ... and it plays PC games originally appeared on Joystiq on Tue, 10 Jan 2012 15:10:00 EST. Casual Brothers Games has announced it will bring Orc Attack to digital platforms. Specifically, the hack and slash (no relation to Orcs Must Die!) will be hitting Xbox Live Arcade, PlayStation Network, PC and OnLive in the fourth quarter. As the name implies, Orc Attack sees up to four playable orcs joining forces and slaying poor, pitiful humans.

Given the ... gaseous nature of each orc's special attacks - not to mention the characters' names, including the devilishly clever "Lord Poop" and charmingly witty "Doc Turd" - we're not expecting any complicated, emergent gameplay or a deep, thought-provoking narrative.
Orc Attack storming XBLA, PSN, PC in Q4 originally appeared on Joystiq on Tue, 03 Jan 2012 21:30:00 EST. You already kinda sorta knew about Cobalt, Mojang's first game launch as a publisher, but did you know that it'd be totally out today in Alpha form? Oh, yeah, okay, you already kinda knew that too. Well now it's official and has a price (€9.95/$13), but beyond that, we've also got a whole mess of info about today's launch. For one, the game will only be available on Windows PC initially, with OS X and Linux support arriving in "Beta." Moreover, there is no "single-player" version of Cobalt, only multiplayer and co-op modes -- according to Mojang, "hot seat" multiplayer is available on the PC and it's "theoretically limited by the number of USB controllers you manage to forcefully plug in to your poor computer." We're gonna go ahead and suggest no more than four, just to be safe.

The game's Alpha also comes with a level editor, which Mojang hopes players will use to "create everything from single maps to whole campaigns from scratch." That isn't to say that the dev team at Oxeye Game Studio are sitting on their hands and waiting for the user-generated content to populate their game, however -- the announcement promises that the team "will continue adding their own maps and game modes to the game as well as continue work on the main campaign."

Like with Minecraft before it, purchasing Cobalt in Alpha (or "pre-ordering" the final build, if you will) nets you access to all future builds of the game, barring the possibility of console or mobile ports. While there is no timeframe for the completed game's launch, the devs set a handful of milestones for themselves, such as the main campaign not showing up until after the game goes "Gold" (read: finished). In the meantime, we'll be sure to let you know when people start creating incredible homages to things they love within Cobalt, as with Minecraft before it.
Mojang's next work-in-progress, Cobalt, now available originally appeared on Joystiq on Fri, 16 Dec 2011 15:20:00 EST. The beefed up, sanded down version of Joe Danger coming to Xbox Live Arcade (the "Special Edition") will apparently arrive on December 14 for 1200 MS Points ($15). Developer Hello Games revealed the date via Microsoft Studio's own "playXBLA" blog, where the dev team further cemented what has been added (and subtracted) to the upcoming re-release.
Beyond the launch date announcement, Hello Games also gave out a brand new launch trailer and a whole variety of new screens. For those of you who have yet to check out Joe Danger, you're in for a real treat. For the rest of us, well, hey, more Joe Danger! We're suckers for artsy platformers, so when Beefy Media's Adam Boyes took to Giant Bomb's livestream this evening with a debut trailer for Might & Delight's latest offering, "Pid," and the game was a gorgeous hand-drawn platformer, we were pretty excited to tell you all about it. In Pid, you'll control what appears to be a little boy in a colorful and mysterious world of platforms and robots -- like Limbo and Machinarium had a digital baby, if you will.

The trailer showed off a bit of co-op play, as well as a variety of different environments through which to romp. Pid is being built using the Unity engine (like that mystery Square Enix game, among many others), thus making its ubiquity across platforms all the easier.

While Boyes admitted the M&D folks don't have a publisher for the game yet, he said they've been actively speaking with publishers and are looking at an Xbox Live Arcade, PlayStation Network, and PC release in "the back half of 2012." Expect more details and the trailer tomorrow, on Joystiq, when the game gets announced "officially." Head past the break for a quick snap of the game in action.
Continue reading 'Pid' is a pretty platformer from Grin vets Might & Delight, planned for XBLA/PSN/PC in 2012

'Pid' is a pretty platformer from Grin vets Might & Delight, planned for XBLA/PSN/PC in 2012 originally appeared on Joystiq on Mon, 05 Dec 2011 19:30:00 EST.
