For non-US streamers, don't fret! Ouya says it is "actively reaching out to international partners as well."<br /><br />Also of note, iOS/Android first-person shooter <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/05/16/u4ia-rips-the-wrap-off-free-to-play-fps-offensive-combat/"><em>Offensive Combat</em></a> is headed to the Ouya. Developer U4iA said of the news, "Given that consoles are so expensive and face an uncertain future, Ouya stands out as the perfect example of an afford home-entertainment platform created specifically for core gamers like us." CEO Dusty Welch also said he "can't wait to bring all-new games in the <em>Offensive Combat</em> universe to the Ouya platform." <em>Whoa</em> Dusty, slow down there!<br /><br />Ouya's Kickstarter page is just five days away from completion, and as of this writing has approximately $6.5 million accrued. That is <em>well over</em> <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/07/10/ouya-passes-kickstarter-goal-on-first-day-at-950k-and-rising/">its original $950K goal</a>.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/08/03/iheartradio-hearts-ouya-u4ia-crafting-offensive-combat-port/">iHeartRadio hearts Ouya; U4iA crafting 'Offensive Combat' port</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Fri, 03 Aug 2012 12:00:00 EST. Last week we published the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/07/22/interview-xbox-live-on-last-fm/">first part</a> of our Last.fm on Xbox Live interview, speaking with Christina DeRosa, a general manager for Xbox Live. Today, we present the second part, a conversation with Orlena Yeung, VP of Marketing at Last.fm. After the break, read Yeung's take from the Last.fm side of the deal, as she discusses a range of topics, including why her company is better than Pandora, its social media plans, and how audio scrobbling works in <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/apb"><em>APB</em></a>.<br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/last-fm-xbox-360/">Last.fm (Xbox 360)</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/last-fm-xbox-360/#2067255"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2009/06/recent-1024_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/last-fm-xbox-360/#2067254"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2009/06/radiostations-1024_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/last-fm-xbox-360/#2067253"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2009/06/similarstrokes-1024_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/last-fm-xbox-360/#2067252"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2009/06/recommended-1024_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/last-fm-xbox-360/#2067251"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2009/06/popular-1024_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/07/28/interview-last-fm-on-xbox-live/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Interview: Last.fm on Xbox Live</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/07/28/interview-last-fm-on-xbox-live/">Interview: Last.fm on Xbox Live</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 28 Jul 2009 12:45:00 EST. Microsoft <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/06/01/joystiq-live-from-microsofts-e3-2009-keynote/">announced</a> at their E3 keynote last month that <a href="http://www.last.fm/home">Last.fm</a> would be <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/06/01/last-fm-service-coming-to-xbox-live/">coming to Xbox Live</a>. We're working on an interview with key players at both Last.fm and Microsoft to bring you more details about the collaboration soon. However, we can share one tidbit: today we spoke with Christina DeRosa, a general manager for XBL, and she let us know who the service will be available to.<br /><br />"Silver users will be able access what we're considering a trial period of three hours a month, which comes with video advertising. Gold users will have unlimited ad-supported access, so they can use it 24 hours a day. There will also be a premium offering on a subscription basis from Last.fm, that will be commercial free and will also have more sophisticated personalization features, like Loved Tracks."<br /><br />Last.fm's <a href="http://www.last.fm/subscribe">subscription prices</a> are currently $3.00 US (&euro;3 EU or &pound;3 GBP) per month, so you'll have to shell out an additional $36 a year if you want to avoid the ads and have full access to their service. You'll also need a Last.fm account, in case you haven't set one up already. Luckily, that part is free.<br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/last-fm-xbox-360/">Last.fm (Xbox 360)</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/last-fm-xbox-360/#2067255"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2009/06/recent-1024_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/last-fm-xbox-360/#2067254"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2009/06/radiostations-1024_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/last-fm-xbox-360/#2067253"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2009/06/similarstrokes-1024_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/last-fm-xbox-360/#2067252"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2009/06/recommended-1024_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/last-fm-xbox-360/#2067251"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2009/06/popular-1024_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/06/30/last-fm-on-xbl-free-to-gold-subscribers-3-hours-per-month-for/">Last.fm on XBL: free to gold subscribers, 3 hours per month for others</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 30 Jun 2009 19:45:00 EST. Apparently, Sega wants to create a worldwide media onslaught of <em>WD</em> information. There's the standard <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/05/31/trailers-created-for-world-destruction/">JRPG</a> in development, a TV-destroying anime, and even comics hitting the stores. To assault all your senses, a weekly web radio show has now been announced, to begin airing on July 3rd.<br /><br />The show will be a blog of sorts, with various members of development staff coming in every Thursday to discuss <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/04/26/segas-new-rpg-world-destruction-depicted/">project updates</a> and reveal detailed <em>World Destruction</em> information. <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/05/27/destroy-the-world-with-your-voice/">Voice</a> actors Furuya Toru and Yuuko Kobayashi will be hosting, and producer Youiti Shimosato will be the go-to guy for any specific questions.<br /><br />It's all in Japanese, so that's kind of a problem. Minor setback -- go ahead and <a href="http://209.85.171.104/translate_c?hl=en&amp;sl=ja&amp;u=http://wd.sega.jp/index.html&amp;prev=/search%3Fq%3Dhttp://www.famitsu.com/game%26hl%3Den%26sa%3DG">tune in anyway</a>. <p>A late night update of the PlayStation.blog reveals that a new firmware update will hit PSP today. 3.93 will, as usual, expand support for PSN titles. However, it will also revamp the oft-forgotten internet radio feature of the handheld. According to the post, there are "20 new internet radio players to enjoy." Not only that, "the new players are organized into more specific styles of music so that PSP users can easily find what they are looking for and listen to their favorite genres." The current rendition of the radio is a bit disorganized -- anything will be undoubtedly be a step up.</p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/03/18/psp-firmware-3-93-expands-internet-radio/">PSP firmware 3.93 expands internet radio</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 18 Mar 2008 02:30:00 EST. The Wii has helped us all party harder (using our working definition of "partying hard," anyway) but it also has the capability to help us party <em>smarter.</em><br /><br />Are you using any of the Wii's extended functionality to improve your party experience? The Fletcher home is going to be the venue for a New Year's Eve gathering, and I'm planning to <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/09/17/winamp-streams-to-the-wii/">stream some music</a> to the Wii to provide a soundtrack. It's a good way to get some music coming into the living room, and, uh, researching it is a good way to stop myself from worrying about the apartment and stuff. <br /><br />How does your Wii enhance your atmosphere?<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/12/31/wii-warm-up-wii-will-always-party-hard/">Wii Warm Up: Wii will always party hard</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Mon, 31 Dec 2007 09:00:00 EST. On December 18th, PSP <a href="http://www.jp.playstation.com/info/release/nr_20071212_psp380.html">firmware 3.80</a> will be released in Japan with two new highly desirable features. First is digital video recording capabilities, made possible with the new Japan-only 1seg peripheral. With firmware 3.80, it will be possible to record television shows from the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/11/16/japans-1seg-advertisement/">1seg peripheral</a> directly onto the Memory Stick for later viewing.<br /><br />Internet radio will also be added in the next firmware upgrade. Exactly how the service will work is unclear at this time. [<strong>Update:</strong> Images have surfaced on <a href="http://translate.google.com/translate?u=http://www.watch.impress.co.jp/av/docs/20071212/sce.htm">Watch Impress</a>' website.]<br /><br />DVR is a huge feature that unfortunately isn't possible outside of Japan unless appropriate peripherals are released globally. However, internet radio is hopefully something all PSP users around the world will be able to take advantage of. Once again, PSP is expanding its capabilities, becoming more features-packed than anyone could've predicted.<br /><br />[Via <a href="http://www.i4u.com/article13484.html">I4U</a>]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/12/12/psp-gains-dvr-and-internet-radio-functionality-in-firmware-3-80/">PSP gains DVR and internet radio functionality in firmware 3.80</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 12 Dec 2007 09:45:00 EST. We like cel-shading, and we like shooters, so we're a little sad. In a statement to Cubed3, O3 said that there was a <em>hope</em> of putting <em>Radio Allergy</em> on the Wii. No plan, but a hope.<br /><br />Aeropause then <a href="http://www.aeropause.com/archives/2007/06/radio_allergy_c_1.php">speculated</a> that this hypothetical Wii release would be bundled with <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/karous">Karous</a>,</em> the current "last Dreamcast game ever" from Milestone, or-- even better, both <em>Karous </em>and <em><a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chaos_Field">Chaos Field</a>,</em> Milestone's <em>first</em> "last Dreamcast game ever." We do like the idea of more games, but we don't have any evidence of that right now. All we know is that we <em>aren't</em> getting <em>Radio Allergy</em> any time soon. With the right peripheral, PSP can do almost anything. It can turn into a <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/camera">camera</a>, a <a href="http://www,pspfanboy.com/tag/gps">GSP navigator</a>, a <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/remoteplay">streaming video provider</a>. Now, it will be able to turn into a FM radio. This <a href="http://videogame.brando.com.hk/prod_detail.php?prod_id=00457">cool little device</a> connects to the PSP with no additional battery necessary. Not only will it act as a FM receiver, it will also act as a PSP remote, allowing you to control the volume on your system. A simple switch allows you to toggle between radio and remote modes.<br /><br />Considering its budget price of $20, we have to admit we want to try this accessory. It's no more expensive than Sony's official remote, but comes with a lot more functionality.<br /><br />[Via <a href="http://plaza.rakuten.co.jp/pspcell/diary/200705070001/">PSP GadgetZ</a>]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/05/07/psp-remote-accessory-includes-fm-radio-support/">PSP remote accessory includes FM radio support</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Mon, 07 May 2007 19:15:00 EST. <div align="left">Note to peripheral manufacturers: Being able to attach a device to a video game system doesn't make it inherently better than similar existing products. Case in point: this <a href="http://videogame.brando.com.hk/prod_detail.php?prod_id=00452">DS FM radio attachment</a>. Sure, it's kind of cool that this radio draws power from the DS' rechargeable battery. But when you can get a cheapo portable radio for <a href="http://www.mileskimball.com/mileskimball/Shopping/ProductDetail.aspx?CID=Christmas&amp;SCID=Apparel%2fAccessories&amp;ProductID=87798&amp;SiteNum=0&amp;SourceCode=3570830&amp;Affid=1">a little more than a buck</a>, it seems silly to spend $14 on a portable radio that takes up your DS' Game Boy Advance slot and doesn't even get AM stations.<br /><br />This unit doesn't even use the DS' features for touch screen control or nifty music visualizer or something -- it's just a radio that happens to stick out the bottom of your DS. Are people really clamoring for portable radios so much that this product needs to exist? Or are the manufacturers just hoping that a small sliver of the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/03/16/february-npd-data-show-ds-wii-on-top/">massive DS user base</a> will be dumb enough to buy any attachment available?<br /><br /><a href="http://www.mileskimball.com/mileskimball/Shopping/ProductDetail.aspx?CID=Christmas&amp;SCID=Apparel%2fAccessories&amp;ProductID=87798&amp;SiteNum=0&amp;SourceCode=3570830&amp;Affid=1"></a></div>

As suspected, "S" is for "<a target="_blank" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Snatcher"><em>Snatcher</em></a>," Kojima's 1988 cyberpunk adventure, which was eventually translated and released for Sega CD in 1994. During this past weekend's '<a target="_blank" href="http://xbox360.joystiq.com/2007/04/17/mizuguchi-working-on-al-gore-environmentalism-project/">Snake vs Zombie Vol. 2</a>' event, Suda confessed that <em>Snatcher</em> was his favorite Kojima effort, prompting a few snickers between the <a target="_blank" href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/nomoreheroes"><em>No More Heroes</em></a> creator and Kojima, who joined Suda on stage. While the pair alluded to Project S's presumed connection to <em>Snatcher</em>, it wasn't until this week's article that the link was openly confirmed.<br /><br />Project S is apparently a series of works based on the <em>Snatcher</em> property. The first, a radio drama (yeah, you read that right, <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Radio_drama" target="_blank"><em>radio drama</em></a>), will be written by Suda 51, who will also star as one of the voice actors. Still, it's not a PC, and there are sites out there with whom our Opera browser doesn't play happily. It only features Flash 7.0, after all, and Java is a no-go. Still, can it handle some of the most popular sites out there? Games Digest takes the Wii browser on a spin through fifteen of the most popular sites in today's intertubes, and compares its performance with the PS3's built-in browser. We won't spoil the outcome.<br /><br />We're actually quite surprised at the Wii's performance at <a href="http://www.last.fm">Last.fm</a>, essentially radio over the internet. If you've got a killer sound system hooked up to your TV, you can set the jams on high and rock out. Just like we do. Check out which sites are Wii-friendly, and which not! You might be surprised.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/04/17/final-opera-browser-showdown-with-the-ps3/">Final Opera browser showdown with the PS3</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 17 Apr 2007 20:00:00 EST. Seems that <a href="http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/entertainment/6541035.stm">Virgin radio is giving a nice heads up</a> to the online world available in the web browsers via the PS3 and Nintendo Wii. They are claiming to be the first UK radio stations to make such an effort -- the effort to put a unique radio station on the web available only through the two consoles mentioned.<br /><br />They don't just toss out whatever's on their actual radio station at the time, they also offer videos and exclusive session recordings... not to mention concert tickets, CDs and tracks available for download. There will also be a few additional radio stations available, including Virgin Radio Xtreme, Virgin Radio Classic Rock, and Virgin Radio Groove. So... enjoy that!<br /><br />[Thanks, Ant!]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/04/10/virgin-radio-gives-ps3-owners-a-personal-radio-station/">Virgin radio gives PS3 owners a personal radio station</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 10 Apr 2007 19:00:00 EST. O3 have delayed the US release of <a href="http://www.mile-stone.co.jp/top.html">Milestone's</a> shmup <a href="http://radioallergy.o3ent.com/"><em>Radio Allergy</em></a> until March 30th. The game, known as <em>Radilgy </em>in Japan, was released on the Gamecube in May of last year. We understand the delay-- shooting games have <em>so much text</em> to translate. Or maybe they didn't want to bring the game out in the midst of a <a href="http://www.ebgames.com/comingsoon.asp?platform=27&amp;sortby=eta&amp;imageFlag=show">busy Gamecube release season</a>. <br /><br /> Also (and this is what makes this news item <em>explicitly appropriate </em>for Wii Fanboy) O3 have deployed the <a href="http://blog.wired.com/games/2006/09/why_rhythm_teng.html"><em>"Rhythm Tengoku</em> trick"</a> in marketing their game-- there's a little "Wii Compatible" icon on the box. They might as well use every tactic they can think of; we get the feeling that selling a shmup for the Gamecube in 2007 is harder than, well, a certain kind of frantic videogame that is notorious for difficulty.<br /><br />We'd actually like to see the "Wii Compatible" tactic used by other developers to sell localized versions of <a href="http://www.nintendo.co.jp/ngc/ggfj/index.html">obscure titles</a> from the Gamecube <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mr._Driller:_Drill_Land">back</a> <a href="http://nfggames.com/games/bonkgc/">catalog</a> at budget prices, but we think it would take a more popular game to start a trend. Many thanks to anyone who listened. To those that had better things to do on a Friday night than listen to me talk about PSP, you can make up for that missed opportunity by checking out the show's archives. You can listen to the entirety of episode <strong>251</strong>'s six hour show, or if you specifically want to check out my portion of the show. You can download <strong>part B</strong> and my interview starts <strong>nine</strong> minutes and <strong>twelve</strong> seconds in. Scot and crew ask me about the failings of the PSP, the possibility of a <em>God of War</em> for PSP and how I landed a fiancee who is a hardcore gamer. I tried to keep the talk as interesting as possible and the professionalism of the AGI staff certainly helped me feel comfortable and have plenty to say.</p>

AGI is a live radio show, so anyone can listen by going to <a href="http://www.allgames.com/index.asp">allgames.com</a> and feel free to call in during the show or enter their live chat. Mayor Young has told me that I'll be on around 7:45PM ET/ 4:45PM PT though the show starts at 6:30PM ET/3:30PM PT, so feel free to listen in for the whole show. As a warning, All Games Interactive often uses potty language and has risque dialogue, so if you're still in training pants, you may not want to listen.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/02/09/steven-to-appear-on-all-games-interactive/">Steven to appear on All Games Interactive</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Fri, 09 Feb 2007 12:00:00 EST. One of those reasons is simplicity: iTunes allows music listeners to sync the music on their computers and the music on their portables quite easily. The latest release, iTunes 7, allows album art and relevant track information to be downloaded automatically. Kingbee116 from the PlayStation forums has come up with a solution for PSP owners, using software called <a href="http://www.download.com/MediaMonkey/3000-2141_4-10582996.html?tag=lst-0-1">MediaMonkey</a>. This iTunes-like program will allow your PSP to become a better MP3 player, and will ensure that your songs feature album art when they play back on your PSP. Get detailed, step by step instructions at the <a href="http://boardsus.playstation.com/playstation/board/message?board.id=pspmedia&amp;thread.id=172995">PlayStation forums</a>.</p><p>Of course, the PSP has one feature that the iPod currently doesn't have: built-in wi-fi. Kingbee116 has yet another <a href="http://boardsus.playstation.com/playstation/board/message?board.id=pspmedia&amp;thread.id=174473">incredibly detailed guide</a> which shows you how to make the most out of your PSP's RSS feature. With his tutorial, you'll be able to stream internet radio wherever you have a wi-fi connection. Certainly, his tutorial will go quite handily with our newly launched feature, <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/rssthis">RSS this!</a></p><p>[Thanks, Kingbee116!]</p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/01/18/comprehensive-guides-for-making-your-psp-a-better-mp3-player/">Comprehensive guides for making your PSP a better MP3 player</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 18 Jan 2007 16:15:00 EST. Channel 4, the edgiest television station in the UK, will offer streaming programming for PSP owners at one of 7,500 wi-fi locations owned by Cloud. Nathalie Schwarz, director of Channel 4 Radio, said: "Becoming the first broadcaster to make radio content available wirelessly on PSPs will help 4Radio connect with a young, mobile audience, making our programming easily available whenever and wherever they want."<br /><br />It's expected that this service will expand to offer full television shows, such as the new <em>Celebrity Big Brother</em> (pictured above).<br /><br />[Via <a href="http://business.timesonline.co.uk/article/0,,9071-2528618,00.html">Times Online</a>]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/01/03/channel-4-streams-content-to-uk-psp-owners/">Channel 4 streams content to UK PSP owners</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 03 Jan 2007 10:30:00 EST. Well, duh. They cut his sound bite short however, because he starts going into his standard boilerplate speech about how games have gotten so complex with multiple joysticks and buttons, but they want to change all that with the Wii, etc etc. Cohen goes on to find out how arthritis keeps a 70 year old woman from playing <em>Guitar Hero</em>, but she manages to kick butt with her grandson in <em>Final Fantasy XII</em>. She has 13(!) grandkids and goes on to say that she thinks playing games keeps the mind active. Gamer grandma kicking your ass, FTW!<br /><br />Here are some interesting facts from the piece:<br />
<ul>
    <li>25% of all gamers are over the age of 50</li>
    <li>A third of all Baby Boomers polled want a next-gen system for Christmas</li>
    <li>That hot buxom blonde you play with in <em>Guild Wars</em> might be older than your mom</li>
</ul>
You can listen to the show <a href="http://www.npr.org/templates/story/story.php?storyId=6589941">here</a>. Of course, if you're over the age of 50 and reading our site, you probably heard this show on NPR already, right after catching <em>Matlock</em>. We keed! We keed! Everyone knows that <em>Murder, She Wrote</em> is far superior.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2006/12/08/npr-chats-up-older-gamers/">NPR chats up older gamers</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Fri, 08 Dec 2006 10:55:00 EST. What's pretty impressive to learn is that all of the hours of <em>Halo 2</em> played online cumulatively add up to more then 10,000 years worth of Spartan living, all without any apparent evolution. We can only imagine the smell in Master Chief's armor by now.<br /><br />Listen to Studio 360's show <a href="http://www.studio360.org/stream/ram.py?file=studio/studio112406b.mp3">here</a>, and check out the video after the jump. Decidedly <em>not</em> HD, this content is ...<em> interesting</em>, to say the least. First of all, this video was made during E3. Why put such an old video on XBLM? I mean, the guy doing the interview is asking, "What's Emergence Day?" I seem to recall a <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2006/08/03/emergence-day-emerges-as-gasp-nov-12/">BIG</a> announcement that already cleared that up. Now, to be fair, there is legitimate gameplay in there, which is nice, but the video quality makes it less than optimal.<br /><br />Finally, what's with the radio jingle music? Maybe it's just me, but that's weird, especially in a podcast about videogames. Just seems out of place, you know? Anyway, this video assuages any misgivings I had about never becoming an IGN Insider. You know, back when I read IGN. The ongoing <a href="http://www.seriousgames.org/gamesforchange/conference/2006/index.asp">Games For Change</a> conference is part of the larger Serious Games initiative, but is focused specifically on using games to encourage social change. <br /><br />NPR profiled three of the games <a href="http://www.gamesforchange.org/conference/2006/expo.asp">on display</a> at the conference, including: <br />
<ul>
    <li><a href="http://www.etc.cmu.edu/projects/peacemaker/TheGame.htm"><em>Peace Maker</em></a> - "a one-player game in which the player can choose to take the role of either the Israeli Prime Minister or the Palestinian President. The player must react to in-game events, from diplomatic negotiations to military attacks, and interact with eight other political leaders and social groups in order to establish a stable resolution to the conflict before his or her term in office ends."<br /></li>
    <li><em><a href="http://www.aforcemorepowerful.org/game/">A Force More Powerful</a> </em>- "simulates nonviolent struggles to win freedom and secure human rights against dictators, occupiers, colonizers, and corrupt regimes, as well as campaigns for political and human rights for minorities and women. The game models real-world experience, allowing players to devise strategies, apply tactics and see the results."<br /></li>
    <li><a href="http://www.darfurisdying.com/"><em>Darfur is Dying</em></a> - MTV's "narrative-based simulation where the user, from the perspective of a displaced Darfurian, negotiates forces that threaten the survival of his or her refugee camp. It offers a faint glimpse of what it's like for the more than 2.5 million who have been internally displaced by the crisis in Sudan.</li>
</ul>
A far cry from the hysteria-prone coverage the mainstream media typically adheres to and great exposure for a group of gamers working to not only foster social change, but to evolve the educational potential for video games. Follow coverage of the conference by monitoring the <a href="http://del.icio.us/tag/06-G4C?setcount=100">06-G4C</a> del.icio.us tag.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2006/06/28/npr-talks-games-for-change-conference/">NPR talks "Games for Change" conference</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 28 Jun 2006 13:25:00 EST. Kyle Orland, the guy that runs <a href="http://vgmwatch.com/">VGMWatch,</a> is one of the hosts of the show along with Ralph Cooper, an ex-NPR staffer and current stand-up comedian, and Robert Holt, NPR's server guy who also reviews games for <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/All_Things_Considered">All Things Considered.</a> Their first show, which runs for a short but sweet 15 minutes, covers that time old topic "video games as art". Some choice quotes:<br /><em><br /></em>Kyle - <em>"You really need to know what art is before you can determine whether video games are art".<br /><br /></em>Ralph - <em>"I feel like a lot of video games, at least right now, they're not really trying to make statements".<br /><br /></em>Rob - <em>"When I was in Grand Theft Auto... I was driving through the city and listening to the radio and I drove over a hill and I saw... this huge moon rise over the horizon, I was just in it at that point. I just knew that this was not your normal game. Of course, I could have just been beating up hookers..."<br /><br /></em>If you're up for some interesting and to-the-point video game culture commentary but want to skip on the usual <em>"I like to hear the sound of my own voice"</em> crap from the host(s), then make sure to add <em>Press Start </em>to your player of choice (<a href="http://phobos.apple.com/WebObjects/MZStore.woa/wa/viewPodcast?s=143441&amp;id=159668559">iTunes link,</a> <a href="http://add.my.yahoo.com/rss?url=http://www.npr.org/rss/podcast.php?id=510066">My Yahoo! link,</a> <a href="http://www.npr.org/rss/podcast.php?id=510066">generic podcast RSS feed</a>).<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2006/06/12/npr-starts-a-gaming-podcast/">NPR starts a gaming podcast</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Mon, 12 Jun 2006 11:55:00 EST.
