The low-budget survival horror game received an unusual range of <a href="http://www.metacritic.com/games/platforms/xbox360/deadlypremonition?q=deadly%20premonition">reviews</a> -- from a 2/10 from <a href="http://xbox360.ign.com/articles/107/1070909p1.html">IGN</a> to <a href="http://www.destructoid.com/review-deadly-premonition-165168.phtml">Destructoid's</a> 10/10, with everything in between. Those that <a href="http://www.1up.com/do/reviewPage?cId=3178205&amp;p=4">did like the game</a> describe it as a combination of <em>Twin Peaks</em>-like storytelling and awkward writing, which are often the key ingredients for a cult hit.<br />
<br />
Of course, the main motivator for <em>Deadly Premonition's</em> uptick in sales was Amazon's discount. On Wednesday, it was the retailer's Deal of the Day, with its price knocked down from $19.99 to $14.98. Apparently, a lot of people were waiting until it dropped under $20. Sadly, the game has <a href="http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B002WSR8BC?ie=UTF8&amp;tag=prey0f&amp;linkCode=as2&amp;camp=1789&amp;creative=390957&amp;creativeASIN=B002WSR8BC">returned</a> to its exorbitant original price.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/04/09/amazon-discount-sparks-chart-topping-deadly-premonition-sales/">Amazon discount sparks chart-topping sales of Deadly Premonition</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Fri, 09 Apr 2010 11:30:00 EST. But when Ignition picked it up, it was announced as a $19.99 budget title for Xbox 360 only. However, the ESRB rating for <em>Deadly Premonition</em>, which lists Ignition as the publisher, shows PS3 in the list of platforms.<br /> <br /> We're just like the game's Agent Francis York Morgan, except instead of a gruesome, unexplained murder, we're investigating an ESRB rating, and instead of looking around a mysterious town in search of clues, we've emailed Ignition. But it's the same basic thing. <br /> <div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/deadly-premonition-xbox-360/">Deadly Premonition (Xbox 360)</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/deadly-premonition-xbox-360/#2440529"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2009/11/deadlypremonition111001_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/deadly-premonition-xbox-360/#2440530"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2009/11/deadlypremonition111002_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/deadly-premonition-xbox-360/#2440531"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2009/11/deadlypremonition111003_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/deadly-premonition-xbox-360/#2440532"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2009/11/deadlypremonition111004_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/deadly-premonition-xbox-360/#2440533"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2009/11/deadlypremonition111005_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/11/12/esrb-rates-deadly-premonition-for-ps3/">ESRB rates Deadly Premonition for PS3</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 12 Nov 2009 09:55:00 EST. When <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/tgs07">TGS</a> rolls around, westerners are exposed to games they never knew existed, many of them inevitably very strange to non-Japanese gamers. As such, we bring you the first of (hopefully) many TGS WTF trailers. This trailer is for a game titled <a href="http://www.gametrailers.com/player/25298.html"><em>Rainy Woods</em></a>. It's actually not strange in the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/09/20/miburi-and-teburi-is-like-staring-into-the-maw-of-madness-itself/">typical Japanese way</a>. No, this is strange in a <a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gMXjjHFz__A">David Lynch</a> / <a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I1ktsEv8NnQ"><em>The Shining</em></a> kind of way. Featuring grisly murder, skull-shaped gas masks, and strange little men apparently sitting in vibrating chairs, <em>Rainy Woods</em> has us intrigued to say the very least. Don't take our word for it though, watch the video and judge for yourself.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/09/21/tgs-wtf-trailer-rainy-woods/">TGS WTF trailer: Rainy Woods</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Fri, 21 Sep 2007 15:30:00 EST. The scans show off the town you'll be exploring as well as some of the more frightening and/or grotesque imagery you'll come across on your quest. The town looks nice, but since it's in the daytime, it lacks that "jump out of the alley and make you cry" feeling other games ooze. <em>Fatal Frame 2</em> is still the most frightening game we've ever played; it mastered that ability, even though you were just taking pictures of ghosts. Still some of the shots make us think of <em>Silent Hill</em> and that's good. We'll keep you posted on this game as details emerge.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/09/17/rainy-woods-scans-quickly-materialize/">Rainy Woods scans quickly materialize</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Mon, 17 Sep 2007 18:00:00 EST. It seems so and we couldn't be happier. The more the merrier in this genre of so few original IPs. This time, though, the story doesn't sound that promising unless you were a fan of the movie Identity -- we know you're out there and we don't mind. It was all right.<br /><br />The game takes place in the American west, with FBI agents and midgets. Rainy Woods is the setting of the story, which are, we presume, woods that are inclined to rain. Awkwardly enough, a murder takes place nearby and people think the "Raincoat Killer" has returned. Rain is a theme. The townsfolk call you in, an FBI agent who has a multiple personality disorder. As you travel the giant city and learn about the murder, you learn that something less-than-human is involved. Expect to chop up and shoot various critters of evil.<br /><br />Draw whatever conclusions you want. Who knows, the game could be pretty neat. Just so the killer doesn't end up being the FBI agent. That would be very, very lame.<br /><br />[via <a href="http://ps3.ign.com/articles/820/820384p1.html?RSSwhen2007-09-15_231100&amp;RSSid=820384">IGN</a>]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/09/16/want-to-walk-around-in-rainy-woods/">Want to walk around in Rainy Woods?</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Sun, 16 Sep 2007 16:00:00 EST.
