<a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/06/03/insomniac-plans-north-carolina-studio/">Insomniac's push eastward</a> was one of last week's most intriguing items of interest, despite a lack of details concerning what exactly the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/ratchet-and-clank/"><span style="font-style: italic;">Ratchet &amp; Clank</span></a> developer has in store for its new Raleigh, NC studio. However, while we don't know exactly what the Burbank, California-based developer has up its sleeves, we figured if anyone had the scoop it would be current Insomniac art director Chad Dezern and gameplay guru Shaun McCabe, both of whom will be given reigns over the company's eastern arm once it opens in January.<br /><br />We recently spoke with both execs about the new studio, and we couldn't help but kick off the interview by asking the one nagging question on our mind: <span style="font-style: italic;">Why North Carolina?</span><br /><br />"We wanted to expand Insomniac's capabilities while retaining the small team culture in Burbank. Opening up an office in <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Triangle_(North_Carolina)">The Triangle</a> lets us do that while also offering an alternative for talented people who want to stay on the East Coast," Dezern answered. "Plus, Shaun and I are from the South and we missed the distant strumming of the banjo."<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/06/09/insomniacs-dezern-and-mccabe-talk-new-north-carolina-digs/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Insomniac's Dezern and McCabe talk new North Carolina digs</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/06/09/insomniacs-dezern-and-mccabe-talk-new-north-carolina-digs/">Insomniac's Dezern and McCabe talk new North Carolina digs</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Mon, 09 Jun 2008 08:30:00 EST. In an interview with <a href="http://multiplayerblog.mtv.com/2008/03/05/insomniacs-ted-price-talks-ratchet-sales-surprises-new-ips/">MTV's Multiplayer</a>, Insomniac Games president Ted Price discusses development at the company going into the PS3 era. He says that <em>Ratchet and Clank Future</em> was the "best production experience" after the "hell" of putting together <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/resistance"><em>Resistance</em></a>, elaborating that working with the new PS3 tech and a genre the company hadn't worked in for 10 years was tough. <br /><br />Price confesses that <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/ratchet"><em>Ratchet</em></a> recently hit the million sold mark globally, but says the game has a "long tail." He also allays fears that Insomniac will become a <em>Ratchet</em> and <em>Resistance</em> mill, "We'll continue to produce new IP, there's no question about that." As for <em>Resistance 2</em>, players can expect deeper storytelling this time around and a better connection with ... boy, what was his name again?<br /><br />Actually, the last part of the interview is all about <em>Resistance 2</em>. Price reiterates that the 60 player arenas are going to happen and they've been playing them internally, along with the eight-player co-op. Looks like it's going to be showdown between <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/killzone2"><em>Killzone</em> 2</a> and <em>Resistance</em> at the end of '08 on PS3.<br /><br />MTV Multiplayer and Ted Price: <a href="http://multiplayerblog.mtv.com/2008/03/05/insomniacs-ted-price-talks-ratchet-sales-surprises-new-ips/">Part 1</a>, <a href="http://multiplayerblog.mtv.com/2008/03/05/insomniac%e2%80%99s-ted-price-pt-2-surfer-girl-storytelling-and-resistance-on-a-handheld/">Part 2</a>, <a href="http://multiplayerblog.mtv.com/2008/03/06/ted-price-pt-3-justifying-60-player-resistance-competing-with-killzone-2/">Part 3</a><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/03/06/insomniac-considering-new-ips-ratchet-sells-a-million/">Insomniac considering new IPs, Ratchet sells a million</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 06 Mar 2008 20:00:00 EST. As was <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/12/14/ratchet-and-clank-size-matters-expands-to-ps2/">rumored</a> in December of last year, the pint-sized version of <em>Ratchet &amp; Clank</em> is set to make the leap from the PlayStation Portable to the PlayStation Not Very Portable But Considerably More Lucrative. Though <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/01/16/retailers-listing-ps2-silent-hill-origins/">ongoing publisher trends</a> suggests the journey to the PS2 is less of a leap and more of a thoughtless sleep rollover, <em>Size Matters</em>' transition had yet to be confirmed outside of a retailer listing. <br /><br /><a href="http://www.shacknews.com/onearticle.x/50868">Shacknews</a> now reports that a recent <em>PlayStation Underground</em> e-mail confirmed the impending port, noting a March 2008 release. Though Sony hasn't officially announced it yet, it seems only prudent to place the game in as many hands as possible. Perhaps they'll even get <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/12/14/miyamoto-ratchet-and-clank-who-lombax-what/">Miyamoto to play</a> this one.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/01/21/ratchet-and-clank-size-matters-set-for-march-ps2-release/">Ratchet &amp; Clank: Size Matters set for March PS2 release</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Mon, 21 Jan 2008 21:15:00 EST. <strong><em>Civilization IV: Beyond the Sword</em></strong> (PC)<br />
<br />
Please, make the addiction stop! <em>Civilization IV: Warlords</em>, the first expansion for <span style="font-style: italic;">Civ IV,</span> made my "<a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/01/01/best-of-the-rest-alexanders-picks/">Best of the Rest</a>" last year and <em>Beyond the Sword</em> tops this year's list. The funny thing is I'm not a <span style="font-style: italic;">Civ</span> fanboy, nor am I even that great of a player (<span style="font-style: italic;">Full Disclosure</span>: I still play on Noble level), but <span style="font-style: italic;">Civ IV</span> is a game I can come back to over and over again. <span style="font-style: italic;">Beyond the Sword</span> added much-needed mechanics for culture-prone and passive-aggressive players, with enhancements in espionage and other concepts "beyond the sword." Oh, and just to keep last year's tradition going: Firaxis (2K, Take-Two), <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/07/12/firaxis-wouldnt-be-against-alpha-centauri-ii/">please get the rights to <em>Alpha Centauri</em></a> back from EA and give us a sequel!<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/01/01/best-of-the-rest-alexanders-picks-of-2007/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Best of the Rest: Alexander's Picks of 2007</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/01/01/best-of-the-rest-alexanders-picks-of-2007/">Best of the Rest: Alexander's Picks of 2007</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 01 Jan 2008 22:30:00 EST. A little <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/11/08/mass-effect-sex-scene-is-sfw/">lesbianism</a> goes a long way as the <em>New York Times</em> names <em>Mass Effect</em> its game of the year for 2007. The <em><a href="http://www.nytimes.com/2007/12/23/arts/23schi.html?_r=1&amp;th&amp;emc=th&amp;oref=slogin">NYT</a></em> bestowed <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/masseffect"><em>Mass Effect</em></a> with the honor for its "focus on character development, personal growth and moral tension, all fueled by a graphics system created to evoke emotional empathy." <em>Ratchet &amp; Clank Future: Tools of Destruction</em> was honored for being the shining star on the PS3 and <em>BioShock</em> was named the "best newcomer." There's also digs at <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/halo3"><em>Halo 3</em></a> and <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/supermariogalaxy"><em>Super Mario Galaxy</em></a> for being "unambitious representations of the state of the art."<br /><br />Speaking of unambitious, for the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/11/30/nytimes-ps3-is-299-gt5-best-seller-and-xbox-uses-cell-chip/">second time in less than a month</a> the <em>New York Times</em> copyeditors took a nap (albeit a minor one) on a video game-related story, which is slowly becoming <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/12/21/gamedailys-biggest-story-of-07-record-shattering-game-sales/">inappropriate in covering an $18 billion-plus industry</a>. There's no telling when reporter Seth Schiesel submitted his copy for this piece, but <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/12/18/e3-returns-to-la-convention-center-next-july-remains-invite-onl/">E3 2008 was already confirmed for the Los Angeles Convention Center</a> last Tuesday, so the article's suggestion that "the solution for [E3] next year can be summed up in one word (or is that two?): Las Vegas" is just about 1,000 New York minutes behind the times.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/12/23/nytimes-names-mass-effect-game-of-the-year-screws-up-details-ag/">NYTimes names Mass Effect game of the year</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Sun, 23 Dec 2007 18:25:00 EST. The blending of the PS2 and PSP continues as PSP's <em>Ratchet and Clank: Size Matters</em> appears to be marked for PS2 release early next year. A GameStop <a href="http://www.gamestop.com/product.asp?cookie%5Ftest=1&amp;product%5Fid=281859">listing</a> says the game is expected Feb. 12, '08 for $30, but consider this a placeholder for now.<br /><br /><em>Ratchet &amp; Clank: Size Matters</em> would join a solid list of games that made the jump from PSP to the PS2. Most famously at this point are the ports of <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/02/07/gta-vice-city-stories-available-for-playstation-2-in-march/">GTA: Vice City Stories</a></em> and <em>GTA: Liberty City Stories</em>, both of which ended up on the PS2 at the delicious consumer-friendly price of $20. We wouldn't mind seeing <em>God of War: Chains of Olympus</em> make the PS2 leap by holiday '08 -- but let's just <a href="http://news.joystiq.com/2007/09/07/god-of-war-chains-of-olympus-umd-capitates-march-4-08/">get the thing out on PSP</a> first.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/12/14/ratchet-and-clank-size-matters-expands-to-ps2/">Rumor: Ratchet &amp; Clank: Size Matters expanding to PS2</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Fri, 14 Dec 2007 19:45:00 EST. Coy or truly confused, Nintendo's maestro has disputed <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/10/07/insomniac-flattered-by-mario-galaxy-concept/" target="_blank">Insomniac's cry for attention</a>, firmly denying that <em>Super Mario Galaxy's</em> spherical worlds were torn out of a page from the Sony developer's <em>Ratchet &amp; Clank</em> book. Miyamoto claims he and the gang were working to disprove the 'games are flat' theory back on N64, when Insomniac was merely taking its first baby steps into the industry (and, <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/bloggers/ludwig-kietzmann/" target="_blank">Ludwig</a>, years before <em>Sonic Adventure 2</em> pulled off 'the rounded level' - FYI). "I'm sorry but I have to admit that I've never seen the game in question," Miyamoto told <em>Official Nintendo Magazine UK</em> when questioned about<em> Ratchet &amp; Clank</em>, "Is it a PC game?"<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/12/14/miyamoto-ratchet-and-clank-who-lombax-what/">Miyamoto: 'Ratchet &amp; Clank' who? <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/search/?q=Ratchet%20%26%20Clank%20Future%3A%20Tools%20of%20Destruction">Ratchet &amp; Clank Future: Tools of Destruction</a></em> may have the second lowest first month sales of any game in the series with 74,500, but that hasn't stopped Sony from staying positive. "SCEA is very happy with the initial sales numbers of <em>Ratchet &amp; Clank Future: Tools of Destruction</em>," said a SCEA to 1UP. "In a crowded market of mature content, Ratchet is a fun, sophisticated alternative that truly showcases the power of the PS3."<br /><br />Of course, its sunny disposition with regards to <em>Ratchet </em>isn't completely unfounded, there are, after all, many fewer PS3s on the market than PS2s. Also, ignore the imaginary 100,000 in first month sales barrier that 1UP is trying to conjure up, <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/HeavenlySword/">Heavenly Sword</a></em> smashed that jazz <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/10/18/september-npd-xbox-360-takes-the-lead-halo-3-to-thank/">back in September</a>.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/11/20/scea-is-very-happy-with-ratchet-and-clank-sales/">SCEA is 'very happy' with Ratchet &amp; Clank sales</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 20 Nov 2007 14:00:00 EST. Joystiq reader <a href="http://s6.photobucket.com/albums/y206/hecsan008/?action=view&amp;current=RACHET.jpg">hex08</a> sends us this image highlighting the differences between the US and Japanese versions of <em>Ratchet &amp; Clank Future: Tools of Destruction. </em>(Also enjoy this <a href="http://www.pspfanboy.com/2007/06/06/japanese-ratchet-ad-is-like-totally-kawaii/">Japanese commercial</a>.) It should be noted, however, that this isn't the first time Ratchet has been visually modified for regional preferences. May the furries rejoice, the continuing adventures of a Lombax and his robot blows up the PS3 with <em>Rachet &amp; Clank Future: Tools of Destruction</em>. Apparently everything old about <em>Ratchet &amp; Clank</em> is still <a href="http://www.metacritic.com/games/platforms/ps3/ratchetandclankfuturetoolsofdestruction">old</a>, but it's gussied up and makes excellent use of the PS3 as something other than a movie player. <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/ratchetandclank">Ratchet &amp; Clank</a></em> looks to be a boon for games on the system, even if it does amount to what Game Informer deems perfectly as "comfort food."<br />

The controls feel great. The graphics look great. The score sounds great. The weapon selection alone make me want to play the game over and over again, just to test out all the cool offered. And that's that's what happens when a smart development team has spent a long time imagining a game like this. It's obvious they've accomplished feats here that they've probably been wanting to do for a long time.<span id="bodyText"><span id="bodyText_PresentationModeControlsContainer_placeHolderHtml">"</span></span></li>

Well, leave it to Insomniac to make me a liar. Because, in all reality, <em>Ratchet &amp; Clank Future: Tools of Destruction</em> sticks extremely close to the formula that made the series one of the PS2's best. There's not much here I haven't seen before. But I don't care, and neither will you, because this is an adventure packed to the brim with vivid characters, amazing gameplay, and heartfelt humor. In a way, it's the ultimate in video game comfort food - a familiar old favorite for those times when you're hungry for nothing but an expertly crafted good time."</li>
    <li><a href="http://www.gamespot.com/ps3/action/ratchetclank/review.html?sid=6181557">Gamespot</a> <strong>(75/100)</strong>: "Try as it might, <em>Tools of Destruction</em> doesn't achieve the same level of greatness as its predecessors. It's too easy, the story falls flat, and the "throw everything in including the kitchen sink" style of gameplay takes too much of the focus off the tight platforming and fun combat. That said, the gorgeous visuals and generally fun gameplay are enough to make <em>Tools of Destruction</em> worthwhile for the series' fans and newcomers alike."</li>

It looks like the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/10/19/future-comes-one-week-early-for-ratchet-and-clank/">early release</a> of <em>Ratchet &amp; Clank Future: Tools of Destruction</em> is not without consequence. <a href="http://www.shacknews.com/onearticle.x/49587">Shacknews</a> reports that some American PlayStation 3 owners may encounter a glitch which prevents them from playing Insomniac's latest platformer. Unlike the sudden loss of your arms or a critical lack of money, however, you can entirely blame someone in the quality assurance department for this predicament*.<br /><br /><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/Insomniac/">Insomniac</a> community manager James Stevenson describes the issue, which presents itself during the game's setup, as such: "With specific amounts of free space on your drive, you may see a screen that tells you have insufficient space to create game data even though there is plenty of free space on your drive." He remains decidedly non-specific regarding said "specific amounts," but at least the man provides a workaround. If you encounter the problem, "either delete or add about 500MB of data to your hard drive and the problem will go away." You'll know you've won when you can actually play the game.<br /><br /> <small>*Excluding the unlikely circumstance of an insane QA manager capturing you and lopping off your arms. If you want to experience rumble with your PS3 games as soon as possible, you're going to have to go on a quest of sorts. First, time travel into next month (or wait a couple of weeks) and import a DualShock 3 from Japan. Next, you're going to need the PS3's new firmware, 1.94, but sadly, it isn't available for download yet. <br /><br />But don't be deterred. Shacknews <a href="http://www.shacknews.com/onearticle.x/49583">is reporting</a> that if you pick up <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/search/?q=Ratchet%20and%20Clank%20Future%3A%20Tools%20of%20Destruction">Ratchet and Clank Future: Tools of Destruction</a></em> (the first retail game with built-in rumble support) you'll be able to find 1.94 right there on the disc. Imagine the convenience. Now, unless you have obsessive compulsive disorder, we have no idea why you'd need the firmware weeks before the controller's even out. But at least we know a certain <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Marc_Summers">former Double Dare host</a> is going to sleep well tonight.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/10/23/ps3s-1-94-firmware-adds-support-for-dualshock3/">PS3's 1.94 firmware adds support for DualShock 3</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 23 Oct 2007 15:05:00 EST. It's a good week for PlayStation 3 owners, especially the new ones. You may have been a little disheartened as you looked for something awesome that only your shiny new PS3 can handle, and, if a few early reviews are any indication, <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/search/?q=Ratchet%20and%20Clank%20Future%3A%20Tools%20of%20Destruction">Ratchet and Clank Future: Tools of Destruction</a></em> may just be that game. There's good news elsewhere too, with Xbox 360 getting <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/search/?q=Ace%20Combat%206">Ace Combat 6</a></em> and the Wii is receiving what we suspect might be a hidden gem with <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/search/?q=Zack%20and%20Wiki%3A%20Quest%20for%20Barbaros%27%20Treasure">Zack and Wiki: Quest for Barbaros' Treasure</a></em>. Oh, and portable treats on the PSP with <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/search/?q=Castlevania%3A%20Dracula%20X%20Chronicles" style="font-style: italic;">Castlevania: Dracula X Chronicles</a> and a new <span style="font-style: italic;">Phoenix Wright</span> on the DS. Like the comically violent effects of the series's trademark weapons, some fantastic news comes <em>flying in</em> from the Official <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/playstationblog">PlayStation Blog</a> regarding <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/ratchetandclank"><em>Ratchet &amp; Clank Future: Tools of Destruction</em></a>. Due to manufacturer's expediency, the game started arriving in stores early and instead of getting angry and Hulk smashing everything, Sony's given retailers the green light to start selling the game next week. However, it's not yet known what stores will be selling it before the "official" October 30th release date.<br /><br />This situation currently remains YMMV (Your Mileage May Vary) given there's no list of stores, public anyway, who've received a slice of the <em>Future</em> early. However, expect fellow gamers to post tales of receipt on every forum they post on, which while annoying should aid you in your quest. Good morning, and good luck.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/10/19/future-comes-one-week-early-for-ratchet-and-clank/">Future comes one week early for Ratchet &amp; Clank</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Fri, 19 Oct 2007 11:27:00 EST. You're not going to like it!<br /><br />"One that we're even extremely flattered by is <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/SuperMarioGalaxy/">Super Mario Galaxy</a></em>, with their spherical worlds; we did spherical worlds in <em>Going Commando</em>, and <em>Up Your Arsenal</em>. It would be amazing to think that <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/05/08/miyamoto-i-want-to-make-games-you-dont-know-you-want/">Miyamoto-san</a> thought that was so cool that he wanted to incorporate it into <em>Mario Galaxy</em>."<br /><br />You know who else did spherical worlds? <em>The universe.</em> You may remember some awesome levels like <em>Earth</em> and <em><strike>Pluto</strike> Neptune.</em> We're not going to jump into Nintendo fanboy mode and spew venom at Mr. Schneider for daring to impugn <em>Miyamoto-sama</em>, but we will say that Nintendo's probably been working on <em>Galaxy </em>for roughly <em>forever. </em>But if it turned out to be true that Miyamoto and team saw an awesome idea in another game and ran with it, <em>good for them.</em> We'd like to think that the team at EAD keeps up with other games.<br /><br />[Via <a href="http://gonintendo.com/?p=26523">GoNintendo</a>]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/10/04/insomniac-invented-the-spherical-world/">Insomniac invented the spherical world</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 04 Oct 2007 16:05:00 EST. It looks like <em>Ratchet &amp; Clank</em> didn't show up three hours early to get through spaceport security and will be delayed a week. The boys <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/08/16/ratchet-and-clank-tools-of-destruction-blows-stuff-up-oct-23/">were expected on Oct. 23</a>, but <a href="http://blog.us.playstation.com/2007/09/27/ratchet-clank-future-tools-of-destruction-goes-gold-demo-coming/">according</a> to the PlayStation Blog they'll be arriving Oct. 30. Not only has the game been delayed, but the demo <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/09/11/ratchet-and-clank-ps3-demo-on-oct-4/">expected Oct. 4</a> on PSN will now show up on Oct. 11. If you can't wait for the demo, remember that you can always <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/09/14/ratchet-and-clank-demo-now-at-gamestop/">pick it up at GameStop</a> with a pre-order of <em>Ratchet &amp; Clank Future</em>.<br /><br /><em>R&amp;C Future</em> is definitely a game we're looking forward to. Not only because the series has always been solid, but because <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/08/19/ratchet-and-clank-video-dump-with-pretty-colors/">we like pretty colors</a> and we're getting a little <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2006/10/23/the-color-of-next-gen-gaming-is-brown/">sick of the brown motif</a> in games. If Ratchet looks a little weird to you (notice the dark eyebrows and eye difference), it's because the Japanese actually have a different Ratchet. Not only that, but they have a different story going on. Localization is funny like that. <br /><br />If you'd like to know more, PS3 Fanboy has a <a href="http://www.ps3fanboy.com/2007/09/16/ps3-fanboy-interviews-ratchet-and-clanks-ryan-snyder/">great interview</a> with Insomniac's Ryan Schneider as he explains the different Ratchets. He says, "In Japan ... they will write their own backstory and they have their own sensibilities. We actively support and encourage that and they're great in identifying what works in that market. Of course, we don't complain because we're one of the few successful Western franchises there period." Although the Japanese Ratchet won't be unlockable in the US version, the Japanese language mode will.<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/09/20/tgs07-ratchet-and-clank-future-japanese-trailer-and-sixaxis-contr/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>TGS07: Ratchet &amp; Clank Future Japanese trailer and Sixaxis control video</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/09/20/tgs07-ratchet-and-clank-future-japanese-trailer-and-sixaxis-contr/">TGS07: Ratchet &amp; Clank Future Japanese trailer and Sixaxis control video</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 20 Sep 2007 12:20:00 EST. <em>Ratchet &amp; Clank</em>, along with their tools of destruction, are in demo form at GameStop according to IGN. You'll have to wait until Oct. 4 to get easy access to the <em>Ratchet &amp; Clank Future: Tools of Destruction</em> <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/09/11/ratchet-and-clank-ps3-demo-on-oct-4/">demo on PSN</a> and just a little longer to get the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/08/16/ratchet-and-clank-tools-of-destruction-blows-stuff-up-oct-23/">full game on Oct. 23</a>. But right now you can stop by your favorite game retailer -- and here's the catch -- plunk down $5 for the pre-order and get your demo disc now. No word yet if other retailers will also receive the demo.<br /><br />On the bright side, if you don't like the demo, you can look at it that you saved yourself $55. Then again, if you have a little bit of patience you can get the demo for free on PSN in a couple weeks. Oh the vicious questions of a gamer: Pick up everyone's favorite Lombax now at a cost of $5 and whet your appetite for some solid platforming gameplay in a month? Or wait a couple weeks for the free demo and decide to get the game a couple weeks later? The choice is yours.<br /><br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/ratchet-and-clank-future-tools-of-destruction/">Ratchet &amp; Clank Future: Tools of Destruction</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/ratchet-and-clank-future-tools-of-destruction/#313583"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2007/07/ratchetclank--ftd_space_icemoon_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/ratchet-and-clank-future-tools-of-destruction/#313582"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2007/07/ratchetclank--ftd_metropolis_vista_1_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/ratchet-and-clank-future-tools-of-destruction/#313581"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2007/07/ratchetclank--ftd_metropolis_patrol_1_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/ratchet-and-clank-future-tools-of-destruction/#313580"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2007/07/ratchetclank--ftd_metropolis_grindrail_2_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/ratchet-and-clank-future-tools-of-destruction/#313579"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2007/07/ratchetclank--ftd_metropolis_dropship_1_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/09/14/ratchet-and-clank-demo-now-at-gamestop/">Ratchet &amp; Clank demo now at GameStop</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Fri, 14 Sep 2007 23:15:00 EST. Sony has scheduled some preliminary <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/08/16/ratchet-and-clank-tools-of-destruction-blows-stuff-up-oct-23/" target="_blank"><em>Tool</em> time</a>, dating the <em>Ratchet &amp; Clank Future</em> demo for October 4th, according to <a href="http://ps3.ign.com/articles/819/819273p1.html" target="_blank">IGN</a>. The demo will feature <em>Tools of Destruction's</em> opening level, as disclosed by Insomniac in an interview with <a href="http://www.thedaily.com.au/blogs/games/2007/sep/10/ratchet-clank-ps3/" target="_blank">thedaily.com.au</a>. "[<em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/Resistance/">Resistance</a></em> taught us] the importance of opening the game with a bang -- and that's just what we do," Insomniac told thedaily.com.au, "Players will get a sneak peek of this level via a downloadable demo that should hit the PlayStation Network Store in the not-too-distant future." <em>Not-too-distant</em> being just 23 days away.<br /><br /><em>Ratchet &amp; Clank Future: Tools of Destruction</em> is scheduled for retail release on October 23rd.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/09/11/ratchet-and-clank-ps3-demo-on-oct-4/">Ratchet &amp; Clank PS3 demo on Oct 4</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 11 Sep 2007 13:56:00 EST. Brian Allgeier recently updated his blog over at IGN, swimming upstream in his river of memories about making <em>Ratchet &amp; Clank</em> come to life, from the beginning to the latest PS3 version. While we'd love to recount his memory of <em>Ratchet &amp; Clank</em>'s roots with you, that's his story and we'd feel guilty if you didn't check out <a href="http://blogs.ign.com/igBrianAllgeier/2007/08/31/65036/?RSSwhen2007-09-04_102000&amp;RSSid=817535">his own words</a> on the matter. Let's just say that working on a dead-in-the-water project got everyone's creative juices flowing, resulting in the crazy gizmos we know and cherish along with our favorite furry hero.<br /><br />Brian Allgeier went on to answer a question that many gamers want to ask many developers: how can you keep working on that same franchise for so long? Luckily, every game takes different strides in different directions to keep things fresh -- much like every <em>Final Fantasy</em> game is distinct, every <em>Ratchet</em> title has its own stylistic elements and added areas to keep the same characters fresh. The PS2 titles featured some RPG elements, but Allgeier says with the PS3 version "<span id="ctl00_ctl00_cphMainContent_ccThreeColumnContent_ccThreeColumnTwo_cphMainContent_BlogEntryView1_lblMessageBody">our goal has been to focus on a galactic adventure with expressive characters in lush and vivid worlds. We're developing new gameplay, storytelling techniques, and a stylistic approach to give players an immersive experience." We simply can't wait to get our hands on the final version of <em>Tools of Destruction</em>, especially after sitting back and learning what goes through the Creative Director's head.</span><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/09/04/brian-allgeier-reminisces-about-his-ratchet-and-clank-journey/">Brian Allgeier reminisces about his Ratchet &amp; Clank journey</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 04 Sep 2007 19:15:00 EST. We hope it will be worth it. The title is a bit of a double entendre, as this week we have two special guests from Insomniac joining us on the show. The other meaning? Well, due to scheduling difficulties we didn't start recording until midnight and Jem was due to fly to Leipzig early the next morning, so he might sound a bit tired. <br />
<br />
We promised we'd keep up with the regular weekly schedule and, as a result of failing this week, we're hoping to bring you another episode before the weekend. Full of Leipzig and PAX anecdotes. Hopefully.<br />
<br />
Episode 10 features Jem Alexander, Nick Doerr, Andrew Yoon with special guests James Stevenson and Ryan Schneider from Insomniac Games. We discuss Jem's trip to Sony's 3Rooms in London and get in-depth with Insomniac about all things <em>Ratchet and Clank</em>. Among a couple of other things. We're going to assume everyone reading this is a huge <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/ratchetandclank">Ratchet and Clank</a> </em>fan. As a result, we're going to assume you've played all the <em>Ratchet and Clank</em> games through to <em>Ratchet and Clank: Size Matters</em> on the PSP (you <em>do</em> own a PSP, right Sony fans?). Well the space battles are back in <em>Ratchet and Clank Future: Tools of Destruction</em>. Don't believe us? We have proof! <br /><br />The video above shows a classic space battle sequence from the game, while the video after the break shows a huge boss battle. In space. Exciting stuff, right? Well, not really. As fun as these parts of the games can be, we ultimately play the <em>Ratchet and Clank </em>series for fun platforming joy. Sometimes these bits feel a little tacked on. Despite that, enjoy the videos!<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/08/19/ratchet-week-fighting-in-space-videos/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Ratchet Week: fighting in space videos</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/08/19/ratchet-week-fighting-in-space-videos/">Ratchet Week: fighting in space videos</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Sun, 19 Aug 2007 12:00:00 EST. Slated for <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/08/16/ratchet-and-clank-tools-of-destruction-blows-stuff-up-oct-23/">October 23 in North America</a> (but remember it's not region locked), the game has <a href="http://www.ps3fanboy.com/2007/08/17/ratchet-week-tools-of-destruction-hands-on/">come a long way</a> since we <a href="http://www.ps3fanboy.com/2007/07/16/hands-on-ratchet-and-clank-future/">saw it at E3</a>. Why are we so excited about this particular installment in the series we've come to know and love over the years? Well, Christopher Nicholls, animation director for Insomniac Games, hits it out of the park in the video above saying, "This generation is like how many million colors of gray can you have? How realistic -- with lots stubble and [how] miserable can you make all the characters? I think that's OK, but thing with <em>Ratchet</em>, it's a total breath of fresh air. It's back to old-school, is it fun?"<br /><br />We've dumped a ton of <em>Ratchet and Clank</em> videos after the break. Is it worth getting a PS3 for? That's in the eye of the beholder and if you've hit your limit with the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2006/10/23/the-color-of-next-gen-gaming-is-brown/">brown palette</a>. When one can <a href="http://www.gametrailers.com/game/4572.html">look at a game</a> and the first thing that happens is a smile creeps in because there's color beyond brown and gray -- from a series that has been consistently solid -- it's at least worth thinking that the PS3 is finally getting some traction.<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/08/19/ratchet-and-clank-video-dump-with-pretty-colors/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Ratchet and Clank video dump with pretty colors</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/08/19/ratchet-and-clank-video-dump-with-pretty-colors/">Ratchet and Clank video dump with pretty colors</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Sun, 19 Aug 2007 11:50:00 EST. In the latest Insomniac podcast they <a href="http://www.insomniacgames.com/podcast/podcast.php">announce</a> <em>Ratchet &amp; Clank Future: Tools of Destruction</em> will release October 23 in North America. No word on a Euro release -- but they say it's region free, so Europe and Australia, use your NA friends to pick up a copy! <br /><br />Some of the guys at <a href="http://www.ps3fanboy.com/2007/08/16/us-ratchet-and-clank-release-date-revealed-in-latest-fullmoon-sh/">PS3 Fanboy</a> have had more time with <em>R&amp;C</em> since our <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/07/16/joystiq-impressions-ratchet-and-clank-future-ps3/">E3 hands-on</a> and they'll be writing that up very soon. This is one of the titles to look forward to on the PS3 this holiday season, as the <em>Ratchet &amp; Clank </em>series has been consistently fun and far happier than the gritty, dark and gloomy gaming we've gotten used to lately. There's nothing wrong with having a game that gives us a giggle.<br /><br />[Via <a href="http://www.ps3fanboy.com/2007/08/16/us-ratchet-and-clank-release-date-revealed-in-latest-fullmoon-sh/">PS3 Fanboy</a>]<br /><br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/ratchet-and-clank-future-tools-of-destruction/">Ratchet &amp; Clank Future: Tools of Destruction</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/ratchet-and-clank-future-tools-of-destruction/#313583"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2007/07/ratchetclank--ftd_space_icemoon_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/ratchet-and-clank-future-tools-of-destruction/#313582"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2007/07/ratchetclank--ftd_metropolis_vista_1_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/ratchet-and-clank-future-tools-of-destruction/#313581"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2007/07/ratchetclank--ftd_metropolis_patrol_1_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/ratchet-and-clank-future-tools-of-destruction/#313580"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2007/07/ratchetclank--ftd_metropolis_grindrail_2_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/ratchet-and-clank-future-tools-of-destruction/#313579"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2007/07/ratchetclank--ftd_metropolis_dropship_1_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/08/16/ratchet-and-clank-tools-of-destruction-blows-stuff-up-oct-23/">Ratchet &amp; Clank: Tools of Destruction blows stuff up Oct. 23</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 16 Aug 2007 21:50:00 EST. Looks like it's <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/08/16/ps3-first-party-exclusives-finally-get-eu-release-dates/">"release date revelation" day</a>. A new international holiday during which we find out just exactly when we'll be playing all the great games over the next few months. Top of our list? <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/RatchetandClank">Ratchet and Clank</a>. </em>We're desperate to get our hands on the final build of this game. Thanks to the latest episode of the Insomniac Full Moon Show, we now know that we will be playing it on October the 23rd. <br /><br />The following months are going to be excellent, if today is anything to go by. Just these Sony first party games and <em>R&amp;C</em> are enough to leave our wallets in a horrid state. So week of October 23rd off work and step into your HandyCryo Personal Stasis Device. That's what we're doing, at least. See you at the end of October.<br /><br />[Thanks mccomber]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/08/16/us-ratchet-and-clank-release-date-revealed-in-latest-fullmoon-sh/">US Ratchet and Clank release date revealed in latest Full Moon Show</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 16 Aug 2007 17:00:00 EST. With the imminent release of <em>Ratchet and Clank: Tools of Destruction </em>coming in the next couple months, Insomniac has released the <a href="http://www.gaming-age.com/cgi-bin/previews/page2.pl?system=ps3&amp;game=ratchetandclank_future&amp;imgnum=31&amp;pagenum=1&amp;title=Ratchet%20&amp;%20Clank%20Future:%20Tools%20of%20Destruction">final box art</a> of their highly anticipated title. Sporting the now iconic image of a Ratchet looking out over the Metropolis level and a terrified Clank reacting to an attacking monster, it looks solid but is not really anything special. With almost all of their screenshots and hands-on demos being in the Metropolis level, it just seems a little played out. This time, we're getting the focus on <em>Ratchet and Clank</em> from Insomniac's own Brian Allgeier. When he describes the game as "A Spectacularific Galactic Sci-Fi Adventure" you really start to know how they come up with such creative weaponry -- they'll all about having fun.<br /><br />The folks at Insomniac answer a number of questions about their upcoming PS3 exclusive (hitting shelves this Fall, no less), including their favorite part of the game and describing one of the bosses. Can we mention that the boss battles are epic, giant forces to be reckoned with? Anyway, please <a href="http://blog.us.playstation.com/2007/07/02/inside-the-developers-studio-brian-allgeier/">check out the full interview</a> at the PlayStation Blog and leave us your thoughts. We can't wait to play this game -- it really does seem to live up to the "Toy Story quality" graphics boasted oh-so-many years ago.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/07/03/developers-studio-brian-allgeier-and-ratchet-and-clank/">Developers Studio: Brian Allgeier and Ratchet &amp; Clank</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 03 Jul 2007 13:00:00 EST. <p align="left">It seems almost criminal that we hadn't featured a <em>Ratchet &amp; Clank</em> fan art yet. Luckily, this week we got this <em>Ratchet </em>fan art e-mailed to us from Matt. It's interesting to see a more slender <em>Ratchet</em>. It sort of reminds us of the PS3 version of his character model. Not only that, but the lighting and stern look of both <em>Ratchet and Clank</em> is refreshing. Thanks for sending in this great fan art Matt! Please let Matt know what you think of it in our comments section.</p>

This time, the president and CEO of SCEA, Jack Tretton weighs in with an interesting post about the past successes of the PlayStation brand and some of his thoughts of the future. It's interesting stuff and definitely worth reading. He also gives game-starved PS3 owners some good news by implying that the drought is almost done: <br /><br />"We have more than 15 games coming from our own internal studios alone this year for PS3. Our third party partners will weigh in with a host of great games giving us more than 100 titles by year end on that system alone."<br /><br />Later on in the piece are hints that we're in for some cool surprises at E3 too, stating that not only will we see new stuff on the known titles like <em>Ratchet and Clank</em> or <em>Heavenly Sword</em>, but also they will announce "a few surprises we have up our sleeves that no one has seen." Intriguing and exciting stuff and we'll find out in less than a month! Anybody want to start the random unsubstantiated guessing on what they're gonna show? I say ... <em>Killzone Bowling</em> and <em>Barbie's Xtreme SOCOM Adventures</em>.<br /><br />[Via <a href="http://www.n4g.com/ps3/News-45165.aspx">N4G</a>]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/06/14/jack-tretton-promises-more-than-100-titles-by-year-end/">Jack Tretton teases E3 surprises, promises "more than 100 titles" by year end</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 14 Jun 2007 16:00:00 EST. Those who saw <em>Ratchet and Clank: Tools of Destruction</em> in action recently would agree. We've got some more details on the game you may find interesting, so please, read on.<br /><br />A few new weapons have been revealed for the title. In addition to the Groovitron (shoots out a disco ball and forces all enemies to dance like crazy ... each enemy with a unique set of dance moves), there is something called the Gelinator. This gun shoots out large jell-o-esque cubes that you use for platforms, or stack them onto each other to reach higher areas. The beauty comes in their wobbly form, something that was just too darn pretty to pull off on the PS2. Finally, there's a Visicopter: a portable RC helicopter you control with the Sixaxis once launched. Use it to scout ahead or kamikaze the heck out of an unsuspecting enemy.<br /><br />This installment is focusing on the story, instead of the weaponry (although they've got some brilliant stuff there anyway). Moving the characters forward and developing them will be a big part of this game, but more importantly, Insomniac wants skeptics to see that they're moving forward when developing for the PS3 (pretty smooth segue way, huh?). Skeptics thought that in the released trailer, the actual game couldn't have so much going on at once. After the presentation given for the game, however, many now believe that it's very possible.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/06/12/ratchet-and-clank-tod-focus-on-storyline-not-weaponry/">Ratchet &amp; Clank: ToD focus on storyline, not weaponry</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 12 Jun 2007 15:30:00 EST. We didn't think there could be much improvement on the game itself as well as the genre. We stand corrected. The latest batch of screens for <em>Tools of Destruction</em> show the PS3 in its prime. The game looks stunning and we're very excited to get our hands on this game. Look for it this November -- if all goes well. A video of the game is also available, after the break.<br /><br /><p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/05/17/sgs-07-new-ratchet-and-clank-gallery-proves-very-promising/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>SGD '07: New Ratchet &amp; Clank gallery proves very promising</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/05/17/sgs-07-new-ratchet-and-clank-gallery-proves-very-promising/">SGD '07: New Ratchet &amp; Clank gallery proves very promising</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 17 May 2007 03:01:00 EST. There are a few. One or two aren't new. But some of them aren't ringing any bells in my memory... then again, little does. Not because I don't have a memory, but because I don't have any bells on my person.<br /><br />We're looking forward to <em>Ratchet &amp; Clank: Tools of Destruction</em> -- due out in Fall, most likely. The zany weapons Insomniac comes up with are always a joy to fiddle around with and the story is generally wacky enough to keep our interest the whole way through. Did I mention how much I love the fuzzy ears and tail of Ratchet? Well whatever, <a href="http://ps3.playfrance.com/news-images-ratchet-et-clank-future.html">check out the screens</a> and give us your favorite weapon from the franchise so far!<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/05/02/here-are-a-few-more-ratchet-and-clank-screenshots/">Here are a few more Ratchet and Clank screenshots</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 02 May 2007 13:00:00 EST. Specifically, Insomniac Games is constructing a digital replica of one of the show's subjects inside its upcoming PlayStation 3 title, <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/02/22/next-ratchet-and-clank-officially-titled/"><em>Ratchet &amp; Clank Future: Tools of Destruction</em></a>.<br /><br />9-year-old youngster and game designer hopeful, James Westbrook, will find himself free of his wheelchair and in the cockpit of a spaceship, a craft all owners of the game will presumably be able unlock when the game releases towards the end of the year. Even the team at <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/insomniac">Insomniac</a> must have been pining for sleep after completing the project within a week -- under normal circumstances, it would have taken a month. You can see the whole story of the Westbrook family on ABC this Sunday, April 22 at 8PM EDT.<br /><br />While some may label this as nothing more than a product's grab for television airtime, the end result will far outweigh any coincidental marketing benefits. See, if it makes a little boy happy, not even the snarkastic bunch at Joystiq have anything nasty to say. Good show, Insomniac.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/04/19/ratchet-and-clank-help-out-on-extreme-makeover-home-edition/">Ratchet and Clank help out on Extreme Makeover: Home Edition</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 19 Apr 2007 17:05:00 EST. They've recently been featured on the ABC show "Extreme Makeover: Home Edition" where good stuff happens to people who don't generally experience good stuff happening to them. We're not being facetious -- it's true. It's a nice show. Watch it on April 22nd at 8pm central time (time zones are terrible) to see what's up.<br /><br /><a href="http://ps3.ign.com/articles/781/781429p1.html">Basically</a>, Insomniac created a replica of a 9-year old paralyzed boy named James and will put him into their upcoming <span style="font-style: italic;">Ratchet and Clank: Tools of Destruction</span> because the boy said his greatest passions included designing and playing video games. Go Insomniac, reaching out and stuff! Sony even did their part and equipped James with a PS3, PSP, PS2 and a harem of sexy games. Go Sony! Reaching out and stuff.<br /><br />If you want to hear about James and his family, we're going to go ahead and tell you to watch the episode. It'll be cool. Again, April 22nd and 8pm central. This post deserves our patented giant fuzzy-armed thumbs up.<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/04/19/ratchet-and-clank-show-they-do-indeed-have-hearts-of-gold/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Ratchet and Clank show they do indeed have hearts of gold</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/04/19/ratchet-and-clank-show-they-do-indeed-have-hearts-of-gold/">Ratchet and Clank show they do indeed have hearts of gold</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 19 Apr 2007 12:30:00 EST.
