June's shaping up to be quite a packed month for <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/guitar-hero-5">Guitar Hero 5</a> </em>and <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/band-hero"><em>Band Hero</em></a> DLC aficionados. On top of a free pack of national anthems for Xbox 360 and PS3 users -- you haven't <em>lived</em> until you've rocked out to Germany's national anthem, "Lied der Deutschen," by the way -- three separate band track packs will be available. These will feature Stone Temple Pilots, Alice Cooper and All Time Low. <br />
<br />
Head past the break to check out the full list of DLC. Activision has confirmed on an earnings call today that <em><a href="http://joystiq.com/tag/guitar-hero-6">Guitar Hero 6</a></em> will be on store shelves sometime this fall, with a new <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/dj-hero"><em>DJ Hero</em></a> game coming soon after. The music game market is a changing place, admitted CEO Bobby Kotick -- it <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/02/10/activision-severely-cutting-music-game-releases-in-2010/">will "continue to compress,"</a> with fewer titles and brands finding success. Activision has "moved from the sell-through of higher-priced peripherals," and its new plan is for "improved economics on a higher percentage of software sales."<br />
<br />
Kotick said that <em>Guitar Hero</em> "remains the leader in the category with more than 44 million games sold to date," and that both releases this year would be followed with "a full lineup of exciting downloadable content."<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/05/06/guitar-hero-6-another-dj-hero-coming-this-fall/">Guitar Hero 6, another DJ Hero coming this fall</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 06 May 2010 18:40:00 EST. It's the beginning of the month, which means it's time to run down the list of <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/guitar-hero-5">Guitar Hero 5</a> </em>and <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/band-hero"><em>Band Hero</em></a> DLC. In May, we're getting three separate track packs -- the last week of the month seems to be void of anything new, for some reason.<br />
<br />
Like alternative pop ensembles like Snow Patrol and Alpha Rev? How about classic rock troupes such as Steve Miller Band and Lynyrd Skynyrd? How about Love in an Elevator? No, we mean the Aerosmith song, not that time you were trapped and -- forget we said anything.<br />
<br />
Head past the break for the full list of DLC for May.<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/05/04/guitar-hero-5-and-band-hero-may-dlc/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Guitar Hero 5 and Band Hero: May DLC</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/05/04/guitar-hero-5-and-band-hero-may-dlc/">Guitar Hero 5 and Band Hero: May DLC</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 04 May 2010 13:00:00 EST. If the whole <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/@breakup">West, Zampella and Activision kerfluffle</a> is no longer satisfying your desire for daily litigation <em>drama</em>, we'd like to point you to an old friend we haven't heard from in a while. We speak, of course, of the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/11/04/no-doubt-suing-activision-for-band-hero-circus-act-appearance/">No Doubt vs. Activision lawsuit</a>, in which the former accused the latter of infringing on its right-of-publicity by allowing their in-game <em>Band Hero </em>avatars to be used to sing other recording artists' songs in the game.<br />
<br />
<a href="http://latimesblogs.latimes.com/entertainmentnewsbuzz/2010/04/no-doubt-wins-round-in-activision-lawsuit.html">According to the LA Times</a>, Activision recently attempted to invoke freedom-of-speech protections under the 1st Amendment to have the case dismissed out-of-hand -- a tactic shot down by Los Angeles County Superior Court Judge Kenji Machida. Though Activision has the option to appeal this decision, it looks like the folks from No Doubt might have a chance at taking back their intellectual property and <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/04/12/respawn-entertainment/">forming a new studio</a> under EA. Wait -- we mixed them up again, didn't we?<br />
<br />
<em>Yeah, we did</em>.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/04/16/activision-fails-to-have-no-doubt-lawsuit-dismissed/">Activision fails to have No Doubt lawsuit dismissed</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Fri, 16 Apr 2010 10:02:00 EST. Next month's musical lineup for <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/guitar-hero-5"><em>Guitar Hero 5</em></a> and <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/band-hero"><em>Band Hero</em></a> is as wide and varied as a kiddie pool full of Sweet 'n Salty Chex Mix, bringing in tracks from Fall Out Boy, The All-American Rejects, Phoenix, Blur, Saving Abel, and Black Sabbath. However, there's one track in particular that stands proudly above the rest -- one which will surely soon skyrocket to the top of the "Most Played" charts. You know, that song that everyone requests at <em>every</em> concert. What? Dolly Parton's "9 to 5?" What kind of concerts have you been going to?<br />
<br />
No sir -- we're talking about "Free Bird," which will be available tomorrow, barring some horrific April Fools' Day shenanigans. Check out the full list of tracks, along with their release dates, past the jump.<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/03/31/guitar-hero-5-and-band-hero-april-dlc/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Guitar Hero 5 and Band Hero: April DLC</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/03/31/guitar-hero-5-and-band-hero-april-dlc/">Guitar Hero 5 and Band Hero: April DLC</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 31 Mar 2010 11:03:00 EST. <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/02/25/guitar-hero-5-and-band-hero-march-dlc/">As expected</a>, the '80s Track Pack for <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/guitar-hero"><em>Guitar Hero 5</em></a> and <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/band-hero"><em>Band Hero</em></a> is now available for download on all the various consoles, featuring three respectable songs from the decade of New Wave and hair bands. Well, two or three, depending on how you like The Go-Gos. The entire thing is available for 440<img border="0" src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.xbox360fanboy.com/media/2007/11/microsoftpointslogosmall.gif" alt="" /> on Xbox Live, $5.49 on PSN, or 550 Wii Points, and the individual songs are as follows:<br />

Say what you want about "We Got the Beat," but we won't tolerate hating on the Crue or Night Ranger and, from the looks of those hairstyles above, they won't either. These songs are available now for both games, so get yourself <em>mo-tor-in'</em> on over to the store if you want 'em.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/03/26/80s-track-pack-available-now-for-guitar-hero-5-and-band-hero/">'80s Track Pack available now for Guitar Hero 5 and Band Hero</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Fri, 26 Mar 2010 04:57:00 EST. Next month's <a href="http://joystiq.com/tag/guitar-hero-5"><em>Guitar Hero 5</em></a> and <em><a href="http://joystiq.com/tag/band-hero">Band Hero</a> </em>DLC should satisfy would-be rockers of all types, offering an eclectic mix of --<span style="font-style: italic;"> oh, </span><em>there's totally some Flogging Molly</em>! Sorry, we just had to get that out of our system, because St. Patrick's Day is next month and because, <em>man</em>, Flogging Molly is <em>totally awesome</em>. <br />
<br />
There are four distinct track packs <a href="http://www.prnewswire.com/news-releases/guitar-heror-5-and-band-herotm-offer-rockers-a-strong-lineup-of-downloadable-tracks-in-march-85336312.html">coming next month</a>, featuring OK Go, Blink-182, the aforementioned Molly Floggers and an '80s track pack -- because nothing says March like a dusty old denim jacket with the sleeves cut off and some Night Ranger.<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/02/25/guitar-hero-5-and-band-hero-march-dlc/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Guitar Hero 5 and Band Hero: March DLC</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/02/25/guitar-hero-5-and-band-hero-march-dlc/">Guitar Hero 5 and Band Hero: March DLC</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 25 Feb 2010 14:30:00 EST. Things took a step towards the <em>alternative</em> in <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/01/07/guitar-hero-5-and-band-hero-january-dlc/">last month's <em>Guitar Hero 5</em> and<em> Band Hero</em> DLC</a> offerings, but it seems <a href="http://investor.activision.com/releasedetail.cfm?ReleaseID=441065">February will see</a> the games' downloadable music get back on the path of <em>straight-up rock</em>. We'll be seeing new (old) jams from 30 Seconds to Mars, Breaking Benjamin, Third-Eye Blind and Black Sabbath. We personally can't <em>wait</em> to see Taylor Swift cover Ozzy's part on "Sweet Leaf."<br />
<br />
All track packs will be available for $5.49 on PS3, 550 Wii Points or 440<span class="album_title"><img border="0" alt="" src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.xbox360fanboy.com/media/2007/11/microsoftpointslogosmall.gif" /></span> on Xbox 360. <br />
On the opposite extreme, January will see a Vampire Weekend collection released for <em><a href="http://joystiq.com/tag/guitar-hero-5">Guitar Hero 5</a> </em>and <a href="http://joystiq.com/tag/band-hero"><em>Band Hero</em></a> to coincide with the band's new album, as well as a three-track Creedence Clearwater Revival set and a collection of songs from "up-and-coming blues masters." We might normally scoff at the array of <a href="http://marketplace.xbox.com/en-US/avatar/catalog.aspx?d=25&amp;g=-1&amp;bt=0&amp;br=-1&amp;sb=1&amp;p=1&amp;gi=66acd000-77fe-1000-9115-d8024156085c">Xbox Live Avatar clothing</a> being made available for <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/band-hero"><em>Band Hero</em></a> - a near ubiquitous occurrence with game releases for the Xbox 360 these days. Not today though, friends. Nope, today we have the opportunity to get our Avatar a totally rad, <em>Say Anything</em> style boombox. We know, we know - <em>finally</em>. For the low, low price of <span class="album_title">240</span><span class="album_title"><img border="0" alt="" src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.xbox360fanboy.com/media/2007/11/microsoftpointslogosmall.gif" /> ($3), you too can be as cool as Lloyd Dobler (though there's no promise of landing a lady as fine as Diane Court with said item). <br />
<br />
We suppose you could pick up the other stuff too, available for 8</span><span class="album_title">0</span><span class="album_title"><img border="0" alt="" src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.xbox360fanboy.com/media/2007/11/microsoftpointslogosmall.gif" /> ($1) to</span><span class="album_title"> </span><span class="album_title">240</span><span class="album_title"><img border="0" alt="" src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.xbox360fanboy.com/media/2007/11/microsoftpointslogosmall.gif" /> ($3), if you're into that kinda thing. You could get a microphone or a shirt or a ... just get the boombox, alright? You don't wanna end up being given a pen and getting told how "valuable the friendship" is, do you? <em>Hmm</em>?<br />

The multi-platinum rock band No Doubt has filed a lawsuit against Activision in a L.A. County Superior Court claiming its likeness was "transformed" into a "virtual karaoke circus act" in over sixty songs in the recently released music title, <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/Band-Hero/">Band Hero</a></em>. According to <a href="http://www.tmz.com/2009/11/04/no-doubt-lawsuit-activision-band-hero-guitar-video-game-gwen-stefani-is-not-a-man/">TMZ</a>, No Doubt claims gamers were only supposed to be able to use their likeness with three of its own tracks; however, the band is available as playable characters through the game's entire music catalog.<br />
<br />
Of particular note is lead singer Gwen Stefani's displeasure that her likeness can be used to sing "Honky Tonk Woman" by the Rolling Stones -- a song which references sex with prostitutes -- using a male voice and mannerisms. For its "circus act" inclusion, No Doubt is seeking an injunction to halt the "unauthorized use" of the band's name and likeness, as well as an unknown amount of damages (aka <em>mad</em> monies). Seems like Activision can't keep rock stars happy, <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/09/10/courtney-love-to-sue-activision-over-guitar-hero-5s-reanimated/">dead</a> or <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/09/17/bon-jovi-turned-down-inclusion-in-guitar-hero-5-supports-love/">alive</a>.<br />

Tomorrow, November 1, beginning at 11AM (EDT) at the Nintendo World Store in Rockefeller Plaza, players will have a chance to play both the Nintendo Wii and DS versions of the game before lining up for an exclusive autograph session with the singer from 3PM to 4PM.<br />
<br />
Need more incentive to join the party? The first fifty players in line will walk away with a pre-release copy of the game to call their own and other random giveaways. Finally, you <em>yourself</em> can interrupt your sister's Taylor Swift karaoke sessions in homage to <a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZvaSaeFMCy8">Kanye West</a>'s VMA <em>performance</em>. We call that, "emergent gameplay."<br />

If you've been savoring the slow trickle of track list announcements for Activision's tween-oriented rhythm title, <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/band-hero"><em>Band Hero</em></a>, your prolonged pleasure is about to come to a satisfying, yet <em>abrupt end</em>. The publisher has <a href="http://investor.activision.com/releasedetail.cfm?ReleaseID=416386">revealed</a> <em>all</em> of the songs that will be available on the generically monikered game, and we've posted them -- along with details about compatible DLC and song importing from other <em>Guitar Hero </em>games -- after the jump in the least confusing manner we could possibly conjure. To help in this endeavor, we've even added a table of contents!<br />
<br />
Man, we're seriously <em>too</em> nice for our own good.<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/10/19/full-band-hero-track-list-importable-songs-revealed/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Full Band Hero track list, importable songs revealed</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/10/19/full-band-hero-track-list-importable-songs-revealed/">Full Band Hero track list, importable songs revealed</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Mon, 19 Oct 2009 10:34:00 EST. If you're the proud papa (or momma) of your very own Wii and DS, then know that Activision's upcoming <a href="http://nintnedo.joystiq.com/tag/band-hero"><em>Band Hero</em></a> will have some connectivity between the two devices. <a href="http://wii.ign.com/articles/103/1035531p1.html">IGN</a> got a demo of the new Wii game and informs us of some pretty nifty features, namely the DS Party Play option.<br />
<br />
Building on the social aspect of the rhythm game experience, DS Party Play allows one to use an empty DS to set up and edit custom playlists while folks rock out on the TV and can even produce some trivia for those wanting to exercise their brains along with their voices, fingers and -- whatever it is you tap to play drums in these games. Gamers will even be able to adjust the difficulty of songs on the fly, with each notification popping up on the TV so that everyone knows it was you who picked that Evanescence song. What? They need to know so they can <em>congratulate you</em> for choosing such a <em>great</em> song. We're not being sarcastic at all!<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/10/16/ds-wii-connectivity-in-band-hero-detailed/">DS/Wii connectivity in Band Hero detailed</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Fri, 16 Oct 2009 13:45:00 EST. We'd like to congratulate Devo, David Bowie and Marvin Gaye for reaching one of the <em>highest</em> highs in the music industry. That would be appearing in a game with no fewer than three Taylor Swift songs: <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/band-hero"><em>Band Hero</em></a>. The artists' featured hits are part of the latest batch of announced tracks -- all of which you can find after the break -- for the tweenybopper spin-off.<br />
<br />
Also, do we have any volunteers to dive into the belly of <em>Band Hero</em> and rescue the totally awesome "In a Big Country" <em>Saving Private Ryan</em>-style? It ... it doesn't deserve this.<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/10/01/david-bowie-styx-yellowcard-and-others-join-band-hero/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>David Bowie, Styx, Yellowcard &amp; others join Band Hero</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/10/01/david-bowie-styx-yellowcard-and-others-join-band-hero/">David Bowie, Styx, Yellowcard &amp; others join Band Hero</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 01 Oct 2009 10:44:00 EST. Activision's making it awfully hard for folks across this big blue world of ours to <em>not</em> purchase their upcoming rhythm title, <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/guitar-hero-5"><em>Guitar Hero 5</em></a> -- here in the States, folks who purchase the game <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/08/11/buy-guitar-hero-5-get-guitar-hero-van-halen-for-free/">are eligible to receive <em>Guitar Hero: Van Halen</em></a> for free. However, in the United Kingdom, the offer is incredibly sweeter -- those who pre-order <em>Guitar Hero the Fifth</em> through Amazon can also grab <a href="http://www.amazon.co.uk/Guitar-Hero-Bundle-Xbox-360/dp/B002A9JGUO/ref=pe_14041_16525351_as_img_2/"><em>Guitar Hero: World Tour</em></a> for the low, low price of <em>nothing</em>.<br /><br /><a href="http://www.oxm.co.uk/article.php?id=13184">OXM received instructions</a> from Amazon.UK on how to utilize the offer -- simply add <em>Guitar Hero 5</em> (on any platform) to your basket, then add the special promotional version of <em>World Tour </em>for the appropriate console. Go to checkout, and the price of the latter will magically change to <em>zilch</em>. If only this kind economic wizardry applied to <em>every</em> purchase in our life.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/08/22/uk-gets-better-bargain-pre-order-guitar-hero-5-get-world-tour/">UK gets better bargain: Pre-order Guitar Hero 5, get World Tour free</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Sat, 22 Aug 2009 22:00:00 EST. Are you ready to <em>do your best Jagger</em>? Activision certainly hopes so -- <a href="http://www.gamezone.com/news/08_19_09_11_06AM.htm">a recent press release</a> has revealed the first DLC pack for <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/guitar-hero-5"><em>Guitar Hero 5</em></a>: A quintet of Rolling Stones tracks. Dropping September 3 (two days after the game hits store shelves), the pack includes live cuts of "Prodigal Son," "You Gotta Move," "Under My Thumb," "I'm Free," and "(I Can't Get No) Satisfaction." Specifically, have you ever dreamed that you'd look similar to him, but have your own voice? Like you're wearing an Adam Levine suit to karaoke night, maybe. Then you're going to <em>love <a href="http://joystiq.com/tag/band-hero">Band Hero</a></em>.<br />
<br />
Activision announced today that the singer has joined <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/08/04/taylor-swift-joins-band-hero-your-daughters-head-explodes/">Taylor Swift</a> as a playable character in the <em>Guitar Hero</em> sequel. Players will be able to guide Pseudo-Levine through Maroon 5's ubiquitous hit song "<a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=C8IQlax-egE">She Will Be Loved</a>."<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/08/19/be-that-guy-from-maroon-5-in-band-hero/">Be that guy from Maroon 5 in Band Hero</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 19 Aug 2009 12:30:00 EST. First, if you used to have a teen daughter before the head explosion thing, we're sorry about your loss. If you didn't, you may need a little additional explanation. Songstress Taylor Swift is sort of like Hannah Montana with a slight country twang (or more accurately, Hannah Montana if she didn't pretend <em>not</em> to have a slight country twang), and she's just joined <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/band-hero"><em>Band Hero</em></a>.<br />
<br />
No, you may not care, but if you've got a daughter of any age, we've got big news: You're going to be buying <em>Band Hero</em>. Or at least you <em>would</em> have, had her head not just exploded.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/08/04/taylor-swift-joins-band-hero-your-daughters-head-explodes/">Taylor Swift joins Band Hero, your daughter's head explodes</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 04 Aug 2009 13:02:00 EST. With today's release of the first trailer for the game, we have more answers than simply "Uh, the word 'guitar' has been replaced by 'band'." Specifically, the video lets us know that the game will feature a decidedly pop rock packed song lineup, to, y'know, make it more appealing to the mainstream ('cause <em>Guitar Hero</em>'s soundtrack is <em>so </em>elitist).<br />
<br />
It's also clear that, in addition to guitar, bass, drum and microphone peripherals, you'll be required to suit up at GAP before playing. Oh, and be a model. Will the specialized peripherals <em>never end</em>?<br />
<br />
<a href="http://paralleluniverse.msn.com/features/music/band-hero-trailer/">MSN Music</a>'s article on the game also mentions that the game disc will house 65 tracks (a partial list can be found after the break) and that DLC for <em>Guitar Hero World Tour </em>will be compatible with the game. Due for release this November on all consoles and DS, the game will also make use of the drop-in, drop-out gameplay feature found in <em>Guitar Hero 5</em>. Just remember: <em>This totally isn't Guitar Hero</em>. The name <em>says so</em>.<br />

We're guessing that of all the tiny plastic instruments you've collected in your den, drum sets are still the most uncommon. Therefore, you may be able to scrounge up a smidgen of enthusiasm for the image above, <a href="http://redoctane.us/storeblog/?p=172">which depicts the drum peripheral</a> that will come bundled with select versions of <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/guitar-hero-5">Guitar Hero 5</a> </em>when the game launches this September.<br /><br />This revelation brings up two interesting points -- first, RedOctane is <em>viciously</em> taking the wind out of the sails of Logitech, <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2009/07/15/logitech-ups-its-skins-game-with-the-guitar-hero-wireless-drum-c/">who revealed its own cymbal-equipped drum peripheral</a> yesterday at an unwelcoming price point of $229. Second, it looks like the leaked pictures and list of features <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/07/06/rumor-guitar-hero-5-drum-set-to-look-an-awful-lot-like-rock-ban/">we received earlier in the month</a> were legit -- and as you surely know, every time a leak is proven legitimate, an <em>angel gets its wings</em>.<br /><br />[Via <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2009/07/16/guitar-hero-5-drum-kit-is-faux-real/">Engadget</a>]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/07/16/red-octane-unveils-guitar-hero-5-drums/">RedOctane unveils Guitar Hero 5 drums</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 16 Jul 2009 10:30:00 EST. Yet another crazy music game fire sale from <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/red-octane">RedOctane</a> today: For $49.99 on PS2, $59.99 on Wii or $69.99 on PS3 or 360, you can pick up a two-pack of <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/guitar-hero-metallica">Guitar Hero: Metallica</a> </em>and <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/guitar-hero-smash-hits"><em>Guitar Hero: Smash Hits</em></a>.<br /><br />As an added bonus, you'll also get a free <em>Guitar Hero World Tour </em>shirt. Now, you should by no means wear this in public, but if you need to work on your car or play the <em>Super Sloppy Double Dare </em>home game, it's a nice perk.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/07/08/pick-up-metallica-smash-hits-guitar-hero-bundle-for-cheap/">Pick up Metallica/Smash Hits Guitar Hero bundle for cheap</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 08 Jul 2009 18:57:00 EST. Everyone's favorite plastic peripheral purveyor, Red Octane, is having a bit of a deal today. The normally $60 wireless guitar and $20 wired microphone for <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/guitar-hero-world-tour"><em>Guitar Hero World Tour</em></a> (across all platforms) are being offered together in a $50 package -- today only! <br /><br />If you're less than impressed by the <em>GHWT </em>deal from today, why not get into your <em>fancy schmancy</em> time machine and head back to yesterday when you could've gotten <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/06/29/guitar-hero-world-tour-sale-rock-out-in-a-financially-responsib/">an even better deal</a>? <span style="font-style: italic;">DJ Hero</span> might be the cliquish kid sister in Activision's <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/05/07/activision-announces-guitar-hero-5-band-hero-and-dj-hero-for-fa/">branching</a> "Hero" family, but it belongs to a <span style="font-style: italic;">really big</span> clique, according to CEO Mike Griffith. "It's certainly hitting a more mainstream and expanded audience from <em>Guitar Hero,</em>" Griffith said of the <em>spin</em>-off in an interview with <a href="http://www.gamesindustry.biz/articles/activisions-mike-griffiths">GI.biz</a>. As expansive as the <span style="font-style: italic;">Guitar Hero</span> catalog has grown over the years (enough to re-release a disc of "<a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/guitar-hero-smash-hits/">greatest hits</a>"), there's potential for <span style="font-style: italic;">DJ Hero</span> to reach far beyond, literally mixing in, well, <em>anything.</em><br /><br />While Griffith has his sights set on some 300 million <span style="font-style: italic;">Hero</span>-less households, developer FreeStyleGames must be a bit more narrow-minded, lest <em>DJ Hero</em> come out as a cacophonous mashup. As mainstream as turntablists have become, they're still spinning for a variety of crowds. There's a difference between a game for everyone and a game <em>with something</em> for everyone. So it's simple then? All <em>DJ Hero</em> has to be is the greatest mixtape of all time.<br /> <div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/dj-hero-06-02-2009/">DJ Hero</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/dj-hero-06-02-2009/#2046053"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2009/05/dj-hero---dj-shadow_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/dj-hero-06-02-2009/#2046052"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2009/05/dj-hero---working-the-crowd_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/dj-hero-06-02-2009/#2046051"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2009/05/dj-hero---turntable-controller_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/dj-hero-06-02-2009/#2046050"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2009/05/dj-hero---scribble-scratching_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/dj-hero-06-02-2009/#2046049"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2009/05/dj-hero---logo-(jpg)_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/06/25/dj-hero-more-mainstream-than-guitar-hero-activision-ceo-says/">DJ Hero 'more mainstream' than Guitar Hero, Activision CEO says</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 25 Jun 2009 15:00:00 EST. Activision continues to "<a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/11/06/activision-blizzard-ceo-kotick-vivendi-franchises-lacked-poten/">exploit</a>" its <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/guitar-hero"><em>Guitar Hero</em></a> franchise this year with three new full titles coming this autumn. The newly announced <em>Guitar Hero 5</em> will offer "the ability to drop in and out of songs and change band members, instruments and difficulty levels on the fly." The press release contains no other details regarding the game, but you can bet it'll be pretty similar to <em>Guitar Hero: World Tour</em>.<br />
<br />
<em>Band Hero</em> is the second of Activision's <em>Hero</em> trifecta for this fall. Don't be confused, <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/band-hero">Band Hero</a> </em>is completely separate from <em>Guitar Hero</em>. Except it's very similar -- it's Activision's attempt at a family-oriented <em>Guitar Hero </em>game, rated E10+, and will be facing off against Harmonix's <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/lego-rock-band"><em>Lego Rock Band</em></a> later this year. <br />
<br />
Finally, <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/dj-hero"><em>DJ Hero</em></a> is something we've been hearing a lot of <a href="http://xbox.joystiq.com/2008/02/20/activision-trademarks-dj-hero/">murmurs about</a> for a while. It will feature "diverse music genres including hip-hop, R&amp;B, Motown, electronica and dance" and will include the turntable controller, images of which we posted earlier. Apparently the title "transforms players into DJs who rule the club scene by creating original mixes of popular songs and music from the world's most exciting artists and DJs." We have to wonder, does the world <em>need</em> this many heroes?<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/05/07/activision-announces-guitar-hero-5-band-hero-and-dj-hero-for-fa/">Activision announces Guitar Hero 5, Band Hero and DJ Hero for fall</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 07 May 2009 09:16:00 EST. That <em>is</em> <em>Guitar Hero: Metallica</em>. Is it fun? Sure. Is it for non-fans? Eh, maybe. Is there anything remotely new about it apart from the fact that it's totally, completely, fully and thoroughly Metallica? Yes.<br /><br />In a move to make the game more party-friendly than <em>GHWT </em>from the get-go, Neversoft has thoughtfully unlocked every song on the disc in Quick Play mode; playing through career mode is mainly about unlocking items and the overall Metallica "experience." Which, as we found, starts out by having you play a couple of songs by the metal legends then becoming so inspired that you start your own band (who you play the games non-Metallica songs as).<br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/guitar-hero-matallica/">Guitar Hero: Metallica</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/guitar-hero-matallica/#1429374"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2009/03/guitar-hero-metallica---fuel-3132009-1_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/guitar-hero-matallica/#1429375"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2009/03/guitar-hero-metallica---in-the-round-performance-3132009-7_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/guitar-hero-matallica/#1429376"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2009/03/guitar-hero-metallica---king-diamond-3132009-2_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/guitar-hero-matallica/#1429377"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2009/03/guitar-hero-metallica---drum-note-highway-3132009-4_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/guitar-hero-matallica/#1429378"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2009/03/guitar-hero-metallica---fight-fire-with-fire-3132009-1_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/03/13/joystiq-impressions-guitar-hero-metallica/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Joystiq impressions: Guitar Hero: Metallica</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/03/13/joystiq-impressions-guitar-hero-metallica/">Joystiq impressions: Guitar Hero: Metallica</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Fri, 13 Mar 2009 14:00:00 EST. Note the highlighted name "Lynyrd Skynrd," located in the top left. The band's name is <em>clearly</em> misspelled. The correct spelling is "Lynyrd Skynyrd" -- <em>duh.</em><br /><br />Some conspiracists might insist that the error is intentional, enforced by Metallica (take note: "Metallica" is spelled correctly), which secretly despises Skynyrd's musical success and demanded humiliation in the form of a misspelling. <em>Seriously?</em> No, that can't be it. Chalk up this mistake to poor proofing. (On a side note: we're petitioning to have "Lynyrd Skynyrd" introduced into the Scripps National Spelling Bee -- it's a tough one!)<br /><br />[Via <a href="http://www.play-girlz.com/guitar-hero-metallica-launches-with-typo-in-cover-art/">playgirlz</a>]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/02/18/guitar-hero-metallica-box-art-mispellz-lynyrd-skynyrd/">Guitar Hero: Metallica box art 'mispellz' Lynyrd Skynyrd</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 18 Feb 2009 14:12:00 EST. Activision is giving you a little something back in the form of five free downloadable tracks if you buy <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/guitar-hero-world-tour"><em>Guitar Hero: World Tour</em></a> before New Year's Eve. It only applies to the "Complete Guitar Game" variety that <a href="http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B001ABN834?ie=UTF8&amp;tag=psfa-20&amp;link_code=as3&amp;camp=211189&amp;creative=373489&amp;creativeASIN=B001ABN834">retails for $99.99</a>, which is the package that comes with the game and a guitar controller, but not the <a href="http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B001ABK1LQ?ie=UTF8&amp;tag=psfa-20&amp;link_code=as3&amp;camp=211189&amp;creative=373489&amp;creativeASIN=B001ABK1LQ">standalone game</a> or the more expensive <a href="http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B001ELJE5Q?ie=UTF8&amp;tag=psfa-20&amp;link_code=as3&amp;camp=211189&amp;creative=373489&amp;creativeASIN=B001ELJE5Q">"Full Band Kit"</a>. DLC is usually about $2 a pop, so you'll be saving about $10 with this deal. Of course, if you own the game already, this simply means you are getting 5 songs for free.<br /><br />Some people will try to compare this deal with the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/10/21/rock-band-2s-twenty-free-dlc-songs-revealed/">20-song DLC</a> <em>Rock Band 2</em> offered a while back, but in this case you actually get to pick and choose which songs you want.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/12/17/buy-guitar-hero-world-tour-get-five-free-songs/">Buy Guitar Hero: World Tour, get five free songs</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 17 Dec 2008 15:00:00 EST. A number of renowned rock bands are joining the <span style="font-style: italic;">Guitar Hero: World Tour</span> in the form of DLC this month. Each band will be contributing three songs -- the Smashing Pumpkins Track Pack will be released December 4th, while the Nirvana and The Eagles Track Packs will make their debuts on the 11th and 18th, respectively. During the last week on the 23rd, you'll even get three reggae tracks for free.<br /><br />Every track pack will cost $5.49 and each song can be individually purchased for $1.99. So which songs made the cut? Take a look, after the jump:<br /><br />[Via press release]<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/12/03/nirvana-smashing-pumpkins-and-eagles-dlc-coming-to-gh-world-to/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Nirvana, Smashing Pumpkins and Eagles DLC coming to GH: World Tour</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/12/03/nirvana-smashing-pumpkins-and-eagles-dlc-coming-to-gh-world-to/">Nirvana, Smashing Pumpkins and Eagles DLC coming to GH: World Tour</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 03 Dec 2008 15:55:00 EST. On top of that, fan-favorite <em>Mr. Brightside</em> will also be released as DLC that same day. All three tracks can be purchased as a track pack for $5.49 or individually for $1.99 each. The solution <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/10/29/activision-offers-solution-to-world-tour-drum-problems/">announced last week</a> that proposes to fix the problems occurring with your brand-new plastic drum set from <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/guitar-hero-world-tour"><em>Guitar Hero: World Tour</em></a> is now available for download. Officially named the Drum Controller Standard Tuning Kit, this Windows program (sorry Apple and Linux users!) should solve your sensitivity troubles. Too bad though, cause you'll also need an midi-USB cable, which you are unlikely to already possess. Luckily, you can get one for free from Red Octane. Of course, you'll still need to wait for the cable to get to you ... and who knows how long that will take.<br /><br />You can download the tuning kit <a href="http://redoctane.custhelp.com/cgi-bin/redoctane.cfg/php/enduser/std_adp.php?p_faqid=21748&amp;p_created=1225236414&amp;p_sid=r-YqIIhj&amp;p_accessibility=0&amp;p_redirect=&amp;p_lva=&amp;p_sp=cF9zcmNoPSZwX3NvcnRfYnk9JnBfZ3JpZHNvcnQ9JnBfcm93X2NudD01MjgsNTI4JnBfcHJvZHM9JnBfY2F0cz0mcF9wdj0mcF9jdj0mcF9zZWFyY2hfdHlwZT1hbnN3ZXJzLnNlYXJjaF9ubCZwX3BhZ2U9MQ**&amp;p_li=&amp;p_topview=1">here</a> and request for a midi-USB cable <a href="http://www.redoctanegames.com/Warranty/USA/">here</a>.<br /><br />[Via <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/11/01/ghwt-drum-tuning-app-now-available-red-octane-shipping-midi-usb/">Joystiq</a>]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/11/03/guitar-hero-world-tour-drum-tuning-kit-now-available/">Guitar Hero: World Tour drum tuning kit now available</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Mon, 03 Nov 2008 15:35:00 EST. Well, dear readers, we've got good news and we've got bad news ... and then we've got good news again. The (first) good news -- the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/10/29/gh-wt-drum-tuning-app-coming-soon-ion-drum-rocker-patch-now-liv/">promised</a> <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/search/?q=Guitar%20Hero%3A%20World%20Tour">Guitar Hero: World Tour</a></em> drum tuning application is now available for download on <a href="http://redoctane.custhelp.com/cgi-bin/redoctane.cfg/php/enduser/std_adp.php?p_faqid=21748&amp;p_created=1225236414&amp;p_sid=r-YqIIhj&amp;p_accessibility=0&amp;p_redirect=&amp;p_lva=&amp;p_sp=cF9zcmNoPSZwX3NvcnRfYnk9JnBfZ3JpZHNvcnQ9JnBfcm93X2NudD01MjgsNTI4JnBfcHJvZHM9JnBfY2F0cz0mcF9wdj0mcF9jdj0mcF9zZWFyY2hfdHlwZT1hbnN3ZXJzLnNlYXJjaF9ubCZwX3BhZ2U9MQ**&amp;p_li=&amp;p_topview=1">Red Octane's customer support site</a>. The bad news is that the application requires you to connect your drum kit to your computer using a midi-USB cable, which we imagine few of you actually possess. The (second) good news -- Red Octane is shipping these cables, free of charge, to anyone <a href="http://www.redoctanegames.com/Warranty/USA/">who requests one</a> on their support site.<br /><br />We suppose it's bad news that we'll be waiting for these cables to ship before we can give our drum kits some much-needed sensitivity training -- on the other hand, the fact that we won't be dealing with any suggestive, <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/RealDoll">RealDoll-sized</a> replacement boxes (or the resulting judgment from nosy neighbors) is <em>good news indeed</em>.<br /><br />[Thanks, Eric G.]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/11/01/ghwt-drum-tuning-app-now-available-red-octane-shipping-midi-usb/">GHWT drum tuning app now available, Red Octane shipping midi-USB cables for free</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Sat, 01 Nov 2008 20:00:00 EST. We know we said that <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/09/15/rock-band-song-unlock-code-works-in-rock-band-2-too/">unlocking every <em>Rock Band 2</em> song</a> using a cheat code wasn't, in fact, cheating at all but rather a singular act of rock and roll rebellion; a quick 10-button <em>eff you</em> to the establishment. Well, if you followed our logic there, then what can we say about <em>Guitar Hero World Tour's</em> unlock code, first distributed to the responsible folks who preordered the game through GameStop?<br /><br />Well, one of 'em did manage to share the code with The Internet, so that's pretty rock and roll. And also, since when is repackaging the allure of real rock and roll into a more palatable, mainstream package any less rock and roll? For every Beatles there's a Monkees; for every Monkees, there's a New Monkees. And with that in mind, we present you the cheat code to unlock every <em>Guitar Hero World Tour</em> song. Just plug this string of buttons into the "Cheats" section under the "Options" menu: <strong>Blue, Blue, Red, Green, Green, Blue, Blue, Yellow.</strong><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/10/29/the-guitar-hero-world-tour-unlock-all-songs-code/">The Guitar Hero World Tour unlock all songs code</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 29 Oct 2008 10:57:00 EST. ... or, more aptly titled, the <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/guitar-hero-world-tour">Guitar Hero</a> World Tour</em> Launch Party sponsored by Best Buy, Jack Daniels and Coca-Cola. If that's not the longest-titled event we've attended, then we're not sure what is. (Although you're in trouble, <em>Guitar Hero</em>, if the Japanese game <em>Tohoku Daigaku Mirai-Kagaku-Gijutsu-Kyodo-Kenkyu-Center Kawashima Ryuta Kyoju Kanshu: Motto Nou wo Kitaeru Otona no DS Training</em> ever has a launch party.)<br /><br />We were inside the midnight sale / launch party at Best Buy in West Hollywood last night, where DJ Jazzy Jeff opened for the Smashing Pumpkins. Several bands were in attendance, along with the requisite roundup of actors and actresses from the Hollywood alphabet list. Head after the break for highlights and a full rundown.<br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/the-guitar-hero-world-tour-launch-party/">The Guitar Hero World Tour Launch Party</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/the-guitar-hero-world-tour-launch-party/#1119444"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2008/10/ghwtlp01_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/the-guitar-hero-world-tour-launch-party/#1119445"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2008/10/ghwtlp02_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/the-guitar-hero-world-tour-launch-party/#1119446"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2008/10/ghwtlp03_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/the-guitar-hero-world-tour-launch-party/#1119447"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2008/10/ghwtlp04_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/the-guitar-hero-world-tour-launch-party/#1119475"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2008/10/ghwtlp05_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/10/27/joystiq-at-the-guitar-hero-world-tour-launch-party/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Joystiq at the Guitar Hero World Tour Launch Party</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/10/27/joystiq-at-the-guitar-hero-world-tour-launch-party/">Joystiq at the Guitar Hero World Tour Launch Party</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Mon, 27 Oct 2008 11:29:00 EST. Many of us will find it easy to imagine the following scenario, <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/11/28/ea-replacing-borked-rock-band-guitars/">having lived it</a> a little over a year ago with the release of an alarmingly similar title -- hordes of rhythm game junkies returned home last night from midnight launch parties at various retailers, cumbersome <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/search/?q=Guitar%20Hero%3A%20World%20Tour">Guitar Hero: World Tour</a></em> bundles in tow. Shortly after failing "Eye of the Tiger" for the third time in a row, an upsetting discovery is made -- one (or more) of the bundled instruments doesn't work as intended. The rocking is abated! Hearts are broken! Hands are wrung! Teeth are gnashed!<br /><br />Sadly, such a scenario has reportedly been experienced by many a concerned forum poster, as threads stating issues with the game's peripherals have sprung up like discontent weeds. Their complaints are many -- <a href="http://www.gamefaqs.com/boards/genmessage.php?board=944201&amp;topic=46189560">one GameFAQs thread</a> includes reports from players with unresponsive cymbals and, less commonly, drum heads; some posters decry their guitar's inability to register every strum; and some complain of faulty fret buttons.<br /><br />We should point out that there are a number of forum posters who have stated complete satisfaction with their newly acquired fake instruments -- still, Activision has been quick to direct those with busted periphs to their <a href="http://redoctane.custhelp.com/cgi-bin/redoctane.cfg/php/enduser/std_alp.php?p_sid=kTtz-ihj">customer service page</a>, where information on how to get warranty replacements from RedOctane is given. We certainly hope the replacement process is a speedy one -- not that you don't already have a gaggle of <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/Instrument-Compatibility-Matrix/">fully functional <em>instrumentrollers</em></a> strewn across your den.<br /><br />[Thanks, Neb.]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/10/26/report-some-guitar-hero-world-tour-peripherals-not-functioning/">Report: Some Guitar Hero World Tour peripherals not functioning properly</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Sun, 26 Oct 2008 20:00:00 EST.
