If you're looking for Nintendo's <a href="http://joystiq.com/tag/wii-u">Wii U</a> to have a unified online network ... don't. While concrete plans for the system's online functionality have yet to be fully detailed, Nintendo of America president Reggie Fils-Aime made it sound like it'll be left entirely up to individual publishers in an interview with <a href="http://blogs.forbes.com/davidewalt/2011/07/05/nintendo-reggie-fils-aime-wii-u/">Forbes</a>.<br />
<br />
Nintendo is "creating a much more flexible system," Fils-Aime said, "that will allow the best approaches by independent publishers to come to bear. So instead of a situation where a publisher has their own network and wants that to be the predominant platform, and having arguments with platform holders, we're going to welcome that. We're going to welcome that from the best and the brightest of the third party publishers."<br />
<br />
He said that Nintendo's system would be an "extremely robust online experience," but deferred to publishers regarding specifics. However, during the Ubisoft/Nintendo developer roundtable at E3, Ubisoft continually <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/06/08/farewell-friend-codes-wii-u-to-have-single-gamertag-and-friend/">deferred</a> to Nintendo. We hope this isn't how the actual development of the service is going.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/07/05/reggie-wii-us-online-functionality-will-be-flexible-for-publ/">Reggie: Wii U's online functionality will be 'flexible' to publishers</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 05 Jul 2011 19:05:00 EST. Nintendo of America president Reggie Fils-Aime wants to make sure you're not getting it twisted -- he's not competing with other game companies, but with the very concept of time itself. Speaking to <a href="http://blogs.forbes.com/briancaulfield/2010/10/21/apple-bigger-near-term-threat-than-microsoft-nintendo-of-america-president-says/">Forbes</a> recently, Fils-Aime explained that "It's all about time." Rather than just competing with the likes of Microsoft and Sony, Fils-Aime said, "I compete with Zynga, I compete with surfing the net, I compete with the newspaper." What about eating ice cream, Mr. Fils-Aime? <em>Hmmmm?</em><br />
<br />
Regardless, he does see one direct competitor to worry about: Apple. Fils-Aime rhetorically wondered, "Do I think that in the near term they can hurt us more than Microsoft? Absolutely." Though, despite astronomical sales of both the iPhone and iPod Touch, Fils-Aime believes that content will win the day, bringing up <em>Dragon Quest IX</em> as an example of a game that can "consume." He even pointed out that 14 of the top 20 selling games this generation originated with Nintendo. <br />
<br />
Fils-Aime didn't point out Apple's bigger trump card -- its device does a lot more than play video games. We're confident that Nintendo isn't going anywhere anytime soon, but competing with <em>a phone</em> in terms of handheld sales? Not so sure about that.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/10/26/reggie-nintendo-sees-apple-as-larger-threat-than-microsoft-and/">Reggie: Nintendo sees Apple as larger threat than Microsoft and Sony</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 26 Oct 2010 14:00:00 EST. At the time, we assumed that this time frame applied to the Japanese launch only.<br />
<br />
Nintendo of America president Reggie Fils-Aime kicked that assumption in an interview with IndustryGamers. "The one thing, for sure," Fils-Aime said about the 3DS release plan, "is that we will launch in all of our major markets by March 31, 2011." As for the specific release dates, Nintendo is still "making individual market decisions in terms of what's happening in Japan, what's happening in the Americas [and] what's happening in Europe." It's worth noting that the last two DS systems launched in the spring in North America: DSi on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/02/18/nintendo-launching-dsi-in-north-america-on-april-5/">April 5</a> (2009) and <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/02/24/dsi-xl-releasing-march-28-for-190-in-north-america/">DSi XL</a> on March 28 (2010).<br />
<br />
Fils-Aime also reiterated that the design of the device seen at E3 is not final, so don't get married to the analog stick placement or those shiny paint jobs just yet.<div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/nintendo-3ds-3/">Nintendo 3DS</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/nintendo-3ds-3/#3097145"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2010/06/3ds-blue_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/nintendo-3ds-3/#3097141"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2010/06/3dsbluefronttop_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/nintendo-3ds-3/#3097146"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2010/06/3ds-red_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/nintendo-3ds-3/#3097144"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2010/06/3dsredfronttop_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/nintendo-3ds-3/#3097142"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2010/06/3dshwlogo_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/06/21/reggie-3ds-launching-in-major-markets-by-march-2011/">Reggie: 3DS launching in 'major markets' by March 2011</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Mon, 21 Jun 2010 18:10:00 EST. It may sound like the obvious statement to make, but for how much Nintendo has enjoyed <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/ds-lite">marginally</a> <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/nintendo-dsi">improving</a> <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/dsi-xl">its handheld</a> over the last few years, it's a big deal. According to an interview with <a href="http://www.businessweek.com/news/2010-04-13/nintendo-says-3ds-biggest-handheld-product-since-2004-update1-.html">Businessweek</a>, Nintendo president Reggie Fils-Aime has stated that the upcoming <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/3ds">3DS</a> will indeed be Nintendo's next platform -- not simply another revision of its already existing DS tech.<br />
<br />
"The Nintendo 3DS for us is our next handheld platform," Fils-Aime assures. Even though Nintendo's business is "fundamentally about software, not hardware," the new tech will be "a means to an end" -- the final goal being "a great consumer experience." <br />
<br />
Reggie wouldn't offer anything else on the proposed new handheld, other than mentioning Nintendo's plans of <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/03/23/breaking-nintendo-announces-the-3ds-more-news-at-e3/">debuting it at E3</a>. We'll be there.<br />

"The fact of the matter is we know we create great content for younger consumers," he said, "we know we've got great content for more casual players, and we want fantastic content for that more active player who loves<em> Metroid</em> or <em>Zelda,</em> but maybe also wants something like a<em> BioShock 2 </em>to play as well." Reggie then admitted, "We're not good at it and it's not a key focus area," thus Nintendo's interest in third-party developers.<br />
<br />
The boss man also reiterated, almost word for word, his <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/03/10/reggie-nintendo-not-thinking-seriously-about-next-console-yet/">previous position</a> that Nintendo would begin work on the next Nintendo system when a developer was unable to do something on the current Wii hardware, and he repeated that an HD feature alone wouldn't be enough to justify a new console. <br />
<br />
When asked about the <a href="http://joystiq.com/tag/playstation-move">PlayStation Move</a>, Fils-Aime questioned the Sony device's appeal. If the Wii already scratches the itch for motion-based gaming, then why would consumers be <em>moved</em> to pick up a PS3? "What's going to motivate them to spend minimally $300 for a new [PS3] system, plus minimally $100 for the Move motion bundle? So [as a consumer], now I'm into this for $400 and I still have to spend money on software. What's going to motivate me to do that?"<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/03/17/reggie-courts-core-devs-questions-motivation-to-move/">Reggie courts core devs, questions motivation to Move</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 17 Mar 2010 10:20:00 EST. <br />
"The way we approach that innovation," he said, referring to Nintendo's innovative "jumps" (like the Wii), "because we have hardware developers working side by side with software developers, is that when the software developer comes forward with an idea that can't be executed on the current platform, that's when we start thinking seriously about the next system. We're not there yet, from a Wii perspective." Of course, E3 is still a few months away.<br />
<br />
Satoru Iwata recently <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/02/02/iwata-wii-successor-needs-something-new-beyond-hd/">commented</a> that a Wii successor would "need something new" in addition to HD graphics to be worthwhile, and Fils-Aime, who has previously, "<a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/11/06/reggie-denies-the-existence-of-wii-hd/">forcefully</a>" denied plans for an Wii HD model, echoed this sentiment. "So when people talk about high definition for the Wii console, our feedback is that that by itself will not create a brand new experience. Therefore, we're not interested. What we have to push for are groundbreaking new experiences. Technology has to enable it, not to be a means all by itself."<br />

Nintendo's resident name jotter-downer and kiester-kicker recently divulged to BMO Capital Markets attendees that the Wii is outperforming its rivals when it comes to female gamers. According to its estimates (via <a href="http://kotaku.com/5411707/nintendo-boasts-9-million-advantage-among-female-console-gamers">Kotaku</a>), 80 percent of the female console gaming crowd prefers Wii over the alternatives. With an estimated 11.7 million female console gamers in the Americas -- it's important to note this data of Nintendo's doesn't take into account DS owners or PC users -- the figure comes out to roughly nine million ladies waggling their way into the fun zone.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/11/26/nintendo-80-percent-of-female-console-gamers-prefer-wii/">Nintendo: 80 percent of female console gamers prefer Wii</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 26 Nov 2009 03:00:00 EST. He added that he has the "utmost respect for all our competitors, but it's interesting to try and answer the consumer question of 'What's in it for me?' in that product."<br /><br />As for the other major competition in the handheld space? When discussing the DS's advantages over the iPhone/iPod Touch platform, Fils-Aime made the surprising move of <em>referring to a third-party game</em>, namely <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/Scribblenauts/">Scribblenauts</a></em>. "That's a fabulous experience that can only be brought to life on the DS." Honestly, it probably<em> could </em>be done on iPhone, but it <em>hasn't </em>and probably won't, which is just as good for Nintendo.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/10/12/reggie-fils-aime-on-psp-go-whats-the-benefit/">Reggie Fils-Aime on PSP Go: 'What's the benefit?'</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Mon, 12 Oct 2009 11:30:00 EST. During a recent interview with <a href="http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/21134540/vp/33183061#33183061">CNBC</a>, Nintendo's Reggie Fils-Aime addressed <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/09/23/nintendo-officially-announces-price-drop-to-199-in-us/">the Wii's recent price drop</a> (surprise: it's seen positive results) and the company's strategy for the upcoming holiday season. The manufacturer is counting on a strong showing for its DSi handheld, with Reggie revealing that 2.2 million units have now been sold, presumably in North America alone. <br /><br />Of course, Nintendo couldn't have possibly sold that many handhelds without the help of retailers and according to Reggie, Walmart has been the biggest customer. We're not surprised -- Walmart <em>is</em> <a href="http://www.southparkstudios.com/clips/104412/">supernatural</a>, after all.<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/10/06/nintendo-sells-2-2-million-dsis-says-walmart-is-biggest-custome/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Nintendo sells 2.2 million DSis, says Walmart is biggest customer</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/10/06/nintendo-sells-2-2-million-dsis-says-walmart-is-biggest-custome/">Nintendo sells 2.2 million DSis, says Walmart is biggest customer</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 06 Oct 2009 12:15:00 EST. "A year ago, someone could have asked me, what's going on with Metroid?" Fils-Aime told <a href="http://e3.gamespot.com/video/6211815/">GameSpot</a>. "When are we going to go back to the more traditional <span style="font-style: italic;">Metroid </span>series versus the path that we went down with <em>Prime</em>? Here's the answer: <em>Other M</em>."<span id="intelliTXT"> The more traditional series -- with a "harder edge," according to Fils-Aime.<br /><br />Reggie would like <span style="font-style: italic;">Other M</span> to <span style="font-style: italic;">sell</span> a bit more than the traditional <span style="font-style: italic;">Metroid</span> game, however. "Metroid, for us, is a key franchise. And, in our view, really, since the SNES Metroid, we haven't broken through in terms of 1.5, two million units, and that's <span style="font-style: italic;">our</span> bar," he said. He also told GameSpot that he's beginning to hear feedback from other companies, hoping to work with Nintendo in the same way Team Ninja is on <em>Other M</em>.<br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/metroid-other-m-wii/">Metroid: Other M (Wii)</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/metroid-other-m-wii/#2078961"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2009/06/metroid061201_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/metroid-other-m-wii/#2078960"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2009/06/metroid061203_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/metroid-other-m-wii/#2078959"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2009/06/metroid061202_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/metroid-other-m-wii/#2078958"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2009/06/metroid061204_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><br /><br />[Via <a href="http://www.escapistmagazine.com/news/view/92351-Metroid-Other-M-Is-a-Traditional-Metroid">The Escapist</a>]</span><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/06/12/reggie-metroid-other-m-is-a-more-traditional-metroid-game/">Reggie: Metroid Other M is a 'more traditional' Metroid game</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Fri, 12 Jun 2009 09:15:00 EST. Remember when <em>Rock Revolution</em> <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/07/21/witness-the-on-stage-rock-revolution-press-conference-failure/">revolted</a> against its own presenter? Perhaps you've managed to <em>forget </em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/07/19/watch-activision-alienate-E3-audience-with-jamie-kennedy/">Jamie Kennedy's stint</a> as an Activision conference host. No doubt Jamie Kennedy has tried.<br /><br />We're a bit surprised <em>not</em> to see Nintendo's 2008 conference represented. Orland took the <em>high road</em> and used some of the 10 slots for historically <em>interesting</em> press conference moments. We suppose there's <em>quite enough</em> talk online about that particular conference anyway.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/05/28/ten-memorable-e3-conference-moments-ravi-drums-not-included/">10 memorable E3 conference moments (Ravi Drums not included)</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 28 May 2009 19:00:00 EST. Fresh off the announcement of <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/03/25/gdc09-train-your-eyes-on-the-legend-of-zelda-spirit-tracks/">The Legend of Zelda: Spirit Tracks</a> </em>at <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/gdc-09">GDC 2009</a>, Nintendo of America head honcho Reggie Fils-Aime had some interesting things to say about Nintendo's plans for this year's E3. "From Nintendo's perspective, we always go into E3 with a very high bar wanting to satisfy not only the core fans but also ourselves," he told <a href="http://www.gametrailers.com/gametrailerstv_player.php">GameTrailers TV</a>, teasing the reveal of a release date for the upcoming Zelda. "We haven't announced a launch date -- maybe we'll do that at E3."<br /><br />So, conclusive evidence of a brand new <em>Kid Icarus</em> game? Not quite. Though Keighley hammered "<a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/reggie-fils-aime">the Regginator</a>" for details on what exactly Nintendo would be bringing to the "<a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/02/17/esa-exec-e3-2009-to-bring-back-glamour-and-sizzle/">glamour and sizzle</a>" fest of this year's E3, the exec kept mum, saying, "Everyone wants to know what we're going to announce at E3 and my answer is, come to E3 and you'll see." Guess we're waiting 'til <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/03/27/big-three-lock-down-e3-media-briefing-dates-and-times/">June 2</a> like everyone else.<br /><br />[Via <a href="http://play.tm/news/24144/fils-aime-promises-strong-e3-from-nintendo/">Play.tm</a>]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/04/14/reggie-promises-a-better-e3-from-nintendo-this-year-again/">Reggie promises a better E3 from Nintendo this year ... again</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 14 Apr 2009 10:44:00 EST. Though Nintendo isn't making specific announcements about hybrid games until after the system is in stores -- "It would be reasonable to talk about that after we've launched" -- Reggie believes that the majority of DS software will either not take advantage of the DSi's features or be hybrid. "Why? One hundred-million installed base of DS. Developers are going to want to leverage that installed base and yet they'll want to provide extra content via the features of the DSi, like the camera. That's my expectation as to how it will play out."<br /><br />Reggie also offered impressions of his hands-on time with <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/03/25/gdc09-watch-the-legend-of-zelda-spirit-tracks-in-action/">The Legend of Zelda: Spirit Tracks</a>,</em> providing a slight gameplay detail: "You do more in tracking and outlining. We showed it in the trailer. You move [an extra] character to a spot in order to unlock puzzles. I really like that." He responded only "Wouldn't that be nice?" when asked if <em>Spirit Tracks</em> would be DSi-enhanced.<br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/the-legend-of-zelda-spirit-tracks/">The Legend of Zelda: Spirit Tracks</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/the-legend-of-zelda-spirit-tracks/#2287111"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2009/09/zeldagallery_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/the-legend-of-zelda-spirit-tracks/#2287112"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2009/09/zeldagallery1-copy_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/the-legend-of-zelda-spirit-tracks/#2287113"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2009/09/zeldagallery3_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/the-legend-of-zelda-spirit-tracks/#1452078"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2009/03/zeldaspirit01_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/the-legend-of-zelda-spirit-tracks/#1452079"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2009/03/zeldaspirit09_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/04/01/reggie-no-plans-to-reveal-dsi-enhanced-software-until-after-lau/">Reggie: No plans to reveal DSi-enhanced software until after launch</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 01 Apr 2009 16:05:00 EST. "We have products that consumers want to hold onto. They want to play all of the levels of a <em>Zelda </em>game and unlock all of the levels. A game like <em>Personal Trainer: Cooking</em> has a long life. We believe used games aren't in the consumer's best interest."<br /><br />While it may be true that designing a game that can be replayed enjoyably for years is a good defense against used games, many consumers will still fast-track their way through games to trade them in as quickly as possible for something <em>totally</em> new ... just because. Reggie follows up this argument with an odd point -- that other forms of media don't have significant used markets.<br /><br />"Describe another form of entertainment that has a vibrant used goods market. Used books have never taken off. You don't see businesses selling used music CDs or used DVDs. Why? The consumer likes having a brand-new experience and reliving it over and over again. If you create the right type of experience, that also happens in video games."<br /><br />That strikes us as just <em>wrong</em>. There have been used book shops worldwide for as long as there have been <em>books</em>, and there's even (at least one) <a href="http://www.halfpricebooks.com/">chain</a> of stores devoted entirely to it<em>.</em> And stores like <a href="http://www.hastingsentertainment.com/catalog/">Hastings</a> and <a href="http://www.cdwarehouse.com/">CD Warehouse</a> trade heavily in used DVDs and CDs.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/04/01/reggie-on-why-used-games-are-not-his-problem/">Reggie on why used games are not his problem</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 01 Apr 2009 09:50:00 EST. <br /> <span style="float: left; margin-right: 10px; margin-top: 7px;"> <script> var digg_url = 'http://digg.com/nintendo/Top_5_Nintendo_Corporation_Quotes'; </script> <script src="http://digg.com/api/diggthis.js"></script></span> Ahh, the quote. Whether used to end an essay or defame a political opponent, the quote is a very versatile tool. Particularly in the era of blogging, every word that escapes a well-known figure's mouth has the potential to be immediately flung back at them. It's quite scary to look back on conversations I've had and consider the possibility of quotes of mine being used to define my character as a whole. <br /><br /> In fact, judgement of character based on a quote can even usurp the validity of the quote itself. Conventional wisdom asserts that singer Lauryn Hill once made a statement to the effect of "I'd rather have my children starve than have a white person buy my album." While this is simply <a href="http://www.snopes.com/quotes/lauryn.asp">not true</a>, the false statement has been cited by those who would define Hill as a racist. Even Eminem supported the fallacy in a song whose title I won't mention. <br /><br /> Being over a century old, Nintendo is bound to have a few interesting quotes attributed to them. Coupled with a philosophy that is undoubtedly unique and perhaps offbeat, the Big N is not lacking in the department of ear-catching statements. Two weeks ago, I made a Top 5 in which I tried to downplay any tension between Nintendo and its fans. This week, I'm providing cheap ammunition. Enjoy. <br /></div>

<br />The third-parties-on-Wii debate has raged for longer than we care to remember. In fact, we now counter accusations that the console lacks great third-party titles with the same, well-rehearsed response: "<em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/09/25/metareview-de-blob/">de Blob</a> <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/04/16/capcom-gives-koreans-pearl-necklaces-and-mousepads/">Zack &amp; Wiki</a> <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/06/19/metareview-resident-evil-4-wii-edition/">Resident Evil 4</a> <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/10/14/wii-fanboy-review-world-of-goo/">World of Goo</a> <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/10/29/its-official-sega-to-publish-the-conduit/">The Conduit</a> <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/no-more-heroes-desperate-struggle/">No More Heroes</a> <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/10/08/little-kings-very-cute-little-trailer/">Little King's Story</a> <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/06/18/wii-fanboy-review-blast-works-build-trade-destroy/">Blast Works</a> <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/05/13/wii-fanboy-review-lostwinds/">LostWinds</a> <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/11/17/dlc-limitations-mean-no-hendrix-for-guitar-hero-world-tour/">Guitar Hero World Tour</a> <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/04/08/wii-fanboy-interview-ready-at-dawns-didier-malenfant-on-okami/">Okami</a> <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/05/05/penny-arcades-eyeful-of-boom-blox/">Boom Blox</a> <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/11/17/lets-tap-to-the-rhythm/">Let's Tap</a> <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/01/05/more-geometry-wars-on-the-wii-is-a-possibility/">Geometry Wars</a> <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/10/08/director-talks-up-muramasa-demon-blade/">Muramasa</a> <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/09/23/wii-fanboy-review-mega-man-9/">Mega Man 9</a> <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/01/22/trauma-center-kit-an-actual-product-that-somebody-is-selling/">Trauma Center</a></em>." It's a bit lacking in coherency and punctuation, but people usually edge away when we shout it in their faces.<br /><br />Nintendo bossman Reggie Fils-Aime (who is earning a reputation for <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/10/30/say-what-you-think-reggie-lays-into-disaster-day-of-crisis/">frankness</a>) is the latest industry figure to question the Wii's third-party output, suggesting that third-parties don't yet understand the platform. He reckons people who purchase Wiis <em>are</em> interested in games that sell strongly on other systems, but that the quality is missing. "I will be able to say our licensees 'get it' when their very best content is on our platform," he told Forbes. Gaming executives spoke during the recent BMO Capital Markets conference, with even Nintendo's own <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/10/30/say-what-you-think-reggie-lays-into-disaster-day-of-crisis/">Reggie Fils-Aime</a> tossing his two cents into the mix, with each stating that they were generally optimistic about this holiday season.<br /><br />"If I look at this from an industry perspective I think cautiously optimistic is quite appropriate," Fils-Aime told Reuters. "If I look at it from a Nintendo perspective, I would say very optimistic." With <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/11/14/reggie-praises-wii-fit-longevity-at-investors-conference/"><em>Wii Fit</em></a>, as well as the popularity of the Wii itself, we'd say Nintendo has nothing to worry about. But, with the way things are, third-party publishers could have a tough time selling their Wii titles this holiday. <br /><br />What do you all think?<br /><br /><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/11/14/despite-economy-gaming-execs-cautiously-optimistic-about-holi/">Despite economy, gaming execs 'cautiously optimistic' about holiday sales</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Fri, 14 Nov 2008 18:05:00 EST. He then went on to extol the success of their strategy, focusing on mass-market titles like <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/Wii-Fit/">Wii Fit</a></em>, which Fils-Aime described as "evergreen," having already made greater revenue than <em>Grand Theft Auto IV</em> (on either the PS3 or 360, not both). <br />If you thought our <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/10/27/wii-fanboy-review-disaster-day-of-crisis/">7/10 review</a> for <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/disaster"><em>Disaster: Day of Crisis</em></a> was harsh, you should hear what Reggie Fils-Aime -- yeah, <em>that</em> Reggie Fils-Aime -- thinks about it. Twenty-five minutes into IGN's latest Nintendo Voice Chat podcast, Matt Casamassina revealed how Reggie "doesn't think <em>Disaster</em> is a $50 game," and regards the audio as "laughable." <em>Burrrrn</em>.<br /><br />We have to confess we're slightly dumbfounded to hear Reggie delivering such a hefty haymaker to one of his company's own games ... while speaking <em>on</em> the record, as well. So sayeth the immortal <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dead_or_Alive_(band)">Pete Burns</a>, "You spin me right round baby, right now, like a record baby, round, round, round, round." In an interview with <a href="http://www.latimes.com/technology/la-fi-nintendo27-2008oct27,0,6221366.story ">Los Angeles Times</a>, Nintendo of America President Reggie Fils-Aime has hinted that, <em>yet again</em>, the supply for the Nintendo Wii might not meet the demand this holiday. The Regginator (a nickname noted in the article) said that production is up 33% over last year, from 1.6 million consoles per month to 2.4 million. <br /><br />We've <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/search/2/?q=wii+shortage&amp;sort=">talked</a> <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/03/27/wii-shortage-is-intentional-according-to-gamestop/">about</a> <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/04/16/pachter-wii-fit-could-keep-wii-shortage-going/">Wii</a> <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/12/20/nintendo-wii-shortage-causing-planning-problems/">shortages</a> <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/03/19/gamestop-expects-at-least-six-more-months-of-wii-shortages/">once</a> <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/04/11/perrin-kaplan-expects-wii-shortages-to-last-for-some-time/">or twice</a> <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/08/17/wii-production-expansion-delayed/">before</a>. "One of our competitors' projects," he said (we're thinking he meant <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/05/14/sony-sells-9-million-ps3s-sets-bar-slightly-higher-for-08/">Sony</a>), "they will sell 10 million consoles worldwide this year. For us, that's three months of production." By his numbers, it would actually be closer to four months, but when you're dealing with <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/npd">multiples</a> <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/japanesehardwaresales">of infinity</a> all day long, math tends to get a little fuzzy. <br /><br />We still find it hard to believe that there's still potential shortages after 708 days, but the sales numbers seem to suggest scholars will need to create a new number system for sales calculations.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/10/27/reggie-wii-production-up-holiday-supply-might-not-meet-demand/">Reggie: Wii production up; holiday supply might not meet demand ... again</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Mon, 27 Oct 2008 13:58:00 EST. Thanks to the journalizing of one Dean Takahashi, we may finally have an answer to one of our favorite questions: Why wasn't the Wii MotionPlus, the thing that makes the Wiimote work the way you thought it would before you bought it, included when the system launched? According to Reggie Fils-Amie (and this should come as no surprise) Nintendo was aware of the tech when it was putting the Wii together, but deemed the price "too high" at the time. Now that it's cheaper, it's bringing it to the masses.<br /><br />What Reggie won't discuss is when the next Wii will go public, calling <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/10/01/rumor-new-wii-due-by-2011-says-former-1uper/">rumors of a 2011 release</a> "pure rumor and speculation." Meaning: The release of Nintendo's new console is <em>completely</em> dependent on Shigeru Miyamoto lowering his crystalline hovercastle from Planet Flowerkiss and dropping it off ... and it's not like he ever <em>calls</em> first.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/10/07/reggie-talks-motionplus-timing-avoids-wii-hd/">Reggie talks MotionPlus timing, avoids Wii HD</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 07 Oct 2008 14:00:00 EST. <br />That's according to Reggie Fils-Aime, at least. The Nintendo bossman thinks that his company did <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/09/30/wii-music-keeps-on-trucking/"><em>Wii Music</em></a> a big disservice when it was <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/07/17/e308-dog-suited-hands-on-with-wii-music/">displayed at E3</a>, and feels the game is a lot more complex than people realize.<br /><br />In fact, Reggie believes that <em>Wii Music</em>, like <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/ouendan">all</a> <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/guitar-hero">the</a> <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/rock-band">best</a> music games, will be simple to pick up, but a tricky beast to master. "We may have done that title an injustice at E3 by showing something that looked so easy," stated Fils-Aime to technology and media site Venturebeat. "Now we're showing the tremendous variety of instruments and tones and how challenging it is to make music that sounds good."<br /><br /> Reggie also revealed that Nintendo expects Wii Music to become one of the "top sellers" on the system. We can totally believe <em>that</em>, but "challenging"? <em>Really?</em> We don't want to jump conclusions without a few major <em>Wii Music</em> sessions, but these assertions do seem to go against the evidence we've <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/todays-instrument"><em>seen</em></a> so far.<br /><br /><br />[Via <a href="http://www.eurogamer.net/article_discussion.php?article_id=253886">Eurogamer</a>]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/10/06/playing-invisible-instruments-more-complex-than-you-think/">Playing invisible instruments more complex than you think</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Mon, 06 Oct 2008 17:28:00 EST. During an interview with G4, Nintendo's ass-kicking, name-taking pres Reggie Fils-Aime talked about all things Nintendo. Most of the interview focuses on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/nintendo-dsi">DSi-related stuff</a>, but he does take a second to discuss what the <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/mario">Mario</a> </em>and <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/zelda"><em>Zelda</em></a> teams are up to. What are they up to? More <em>Zelda </em>and <em>Mario</em>, of course! And while <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/07/15/e308-iwata-mario-and-zelda-teams-hard-at-work/">we already knew this</a> back at E3, it's nice to hear it reiterated.<br /><br />Head past the break for the 10 minute-long video interview with Reggie.<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/10/03/reggie-explains-mario-and-zelda-teams-are-working-on-new-games/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Reggie explains Mario and Zelda teams are working on new games</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/10/03/reggie-explains-mario-and-zelda-teams-are-working-on-new-games/">Reggie explains Mario and Zelda teams are working on new games</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Fri, 03 Oct 2008 18:12:00 EST. In a recent Club Nintendo interview, Reggie Fils-Aime and Shigeru Miyamoto both touched on some important things on the mind of all Wii owners. The first thing that many are <em>still</em> asking about is <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/08/13/save-your-vc-games-to-the-wii-hard-drive/">the lack of a hard drive</a>. Well, Miyamoto commented that the company is still working on it and exploring all of the possible technologies, to which Reggie added that the company hasn't specified a traditional hard drive or another kind of storage, but will create a solution that is "better than what we have now."<br /><br />Miyamoto was also asked about MotionPlus and incorporating it into future <em>Zelda</em> games. Miyamoto said that Nintendo was working on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/07/15/e308-iwata-mario-and-zelda-teams-hard-at-work/">a new <em>Zelda</em> game</a> (and also <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/08/12/nintendo-registers-mysterious-trademark-for-piktura/"><em>Pikmin</em></a>), but would not comment as to each title supporting Waggle 2.0. He also commented that we shouldn't expect any new peripherals any time soon, seeing as how there are so many available for the Wii now. We're glad for that, because our limited closet space has meant that storing them all has been a big hassle.<br /><br />So, the biggest thing to come out of this piece for Club Nintendo is more of <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/04/23/revolutionary-wii-can-has-hard-drive/">the hard drive talk</a>, although we guess we can't call it that, since Nintendo may want something different than a traditional hard drive. What other kind of technologies could they mean? What could be a comparable storage solution to a hard drive and yet <em>not </em>be a hard drive?<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/09/08/miyamoto-and-reggie-talk-storage-solutions-peripherals/">Miyamoto and Reggie talk storage solutions, peripherals</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Mon, 08 Sep 2008 11:52:00 EST. No, not <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/07/19/e308-wii-fanboys-e3-endgame-evaluation/">the company's showing at E3</a>, but rather the storage issues of the console.<br /><br />He said that "from an Americas-centric perspective," the Wii's <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/storage">storage limitations</a> are becoming a "mainstream" problem. Again, he reiterates that the company is working on a solution, but isn't ready to reveal any specifics yet. <br /><br />Seriously, Nintendo, how long are you going to wait? Each week, more Virtual Console and WiiWare content releases and gamers can't download because they have no space!<br /><br />[Thanks, il_duce620!]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/07/24/reggie-wii-shortage-is-a-mainstream-problem/">Reggie: Wii storage is a 'mainstream' problem</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 24 Jul 2008 15:44:00 EST. The next question is obvious: will we see <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/gta/"><em>GTA</em></a> on the Wii? Speaking to MTV, <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/07/22/keighley-walks-a-fine-line-with-reggie-dunaway-defends-herself/">Reggie</a> had an answer for that -- maybe. Lay it out straight for us, home boy.<br /><br />The fact is, it's not really in Nintendo's "power" to simply rock up and demand Take Two and Rockstar get working on waggling with hookers. Reggie simply said a Wii installment "is all based on what <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/rockstar/">Rockstar</a> and Take Two want to do." If they want to go ahead with it, Reggie won;t have a problem, saying "if they build a bottoms-up game that takes advantage of what we do well, I'd love to see it on the platform."<br /><br />We would love to see it on the platform too. <br />Geoff Keighley, you have bigger stones than us. The GameTrailers TV presenter grabbed super-sized Nintendo executive Reggie Fils-Aime immediately after he left stage at Nintendo's infamous E3 2008 keynote, and subsequently gave him a grilling that <a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tD5tunBGmDQ">Paxman</a> would be proud of.<br /><br />While Reggie was mostly gracious about Keighley's constant enquiries into the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/07/15/e308-iwata-mario-and-zelda-teams-hard-at-work/">new <em>Mario</em> and <em>Zelda</em> titles</a>, he did show the odd sign of irritation, at one point protesting, "Geoff, you keep trying to date me, you know. My girlfriend's going to get upset. You keep trying to date me. You can't do that." Protip, Geoff: when the vein starts bulging in the side of Reggie's head, <em>that's the time to stop asking about Mario and Zelda</em>.<br /><br />In a totally different interview, Reggie's conference co-presenter Cammie "Smiler" Dunaway has defended herself from (rather absurd, if you ask us) accusations that she was feigning enthusiasm during Nintendo's keynote. "Tell your blog that I'm really a genuinely smiley, nice person," she instructed Wired's Chris Kohler. "Because people think I'm fake, smiling up there. I'm just not! It's just me! I am who I am."<br /><br />Ah, the hard-hitting drama of the post-E3 analysis!<br /><br />[Reggie carefully concealing his annoyance <a href="http://www.gametrailers.com/player/37265.html">here</a>, via <a href="http://www.videogaming247.com/2008/07/22/keighley-hammers-reggie-on-lack-of-e3-nintendo-hardcore/">videogaming247</a>]<br />[Cammie Dunaway defending her right to smile <a href="http://blog.wired.com/games/2008/07/nintendos-cammi.html">here</a>]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/07/22/keighley-walks-a-fine-line-with-reggie-dunaway-defends-herself/">Keighley walks a fine line with Reggie, Dunaway defends herself</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 22 Jul 2008 14:00:00 EST. You've read the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/07/15/e308-wii-fanboy-reacts-to-nintendos-keynote/">drunken ramblings</a> of the Fanboy team as they stumbled through the revelations of the Nintendo press conference. Now it's time to have your say, and let us know just how impressive the lineup of presentations was. Is Cammie a decent enough public speaker with the whole world watching? Will <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/wii-music/"><em>Wii Music</em></a> stink out concert halls worldwide, or receive a standing ovation? Is <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/07/15/e308-iwata-mario-and-zelda-teams-hard-at-work/">Iwata</a> cooler than you? <em>Absolutely</em>.<br /><br />Go on, Nintendo can take your punishment. If you hated it, let fly with reasons why. If you loved it, gush about your favorite game (aside from the default selection of <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/07/15/e308-first-animal-crossing-city-folk-footage/"><em>Animal Crossing</em></a>). All in all, was <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/07/15/e308-wii-fanboy-on-day-two/">E3 2008</a> a success or a blunder for Nintendo? You decide.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/07/16/wii-warm-up-give-us-your-three-cents-about-e3/">Wii Warm Up: Give us your three cents about E3</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 16 Jul 2008 08:00:00 EST. Just a reminder: at 9AM Pacific time, Nintendo's E3 press conference will begin. Who knows <em>what</em> will be announced, revealed, kicked, or taken? All we know is that there will be a long line, then some intro stuff, then <em>megatons.</em><br /><br />We'll be <em>in ur conference talking about ur news</em> in an exciting real-time chat. Joystiq will be <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/07/15/engadget-and-joystiq-live-from-nintendos-e3-2008-keynote/">liveblogging</a> the event as well, so you can enjoy two-fisted news-reading! Or something. And in case you don't have enough tabs open, why not play Nintendo Conference: The Home Game? Are you ready for some Nintendo megatons? Today at 9am PT (that's 12pm for all of you on the east coast), Nintendo will be conducting their annual E3 keynote, which is sure to be home to some interesting content. Also, we think Reggie will take some names. He may also <em>kick some ass</em>. <br /><br />You'll have the keynote available to you in two flavors. For one, you can get <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/07/15/engadget-and-joystiq-live-from-nintendos-e3-2008-keynote/">the usual liveblog goodness from Joystiq</a>, but on top of that, we have our own special little <em>something something</em> planned. We'll be conducting a live chat <em>thing</em> to go along side of that, hopefully providing you all with oodles and oodles of content you'll love us forever for. Or, you know, just <em>tolerate</em>.<br /><br />So, be here at 9am PT and don't forget those <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/07/11/nintendo-e3-2008-press-conference-lets-play-bingo/">bingo</a> <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/07/11/nintendo-e3-2008-press-conference-lets-play-bingo/">cards</a>!<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/07/15/e08-reminder-nintendo-press-conference-today/">E308 Reminder: Nintendo press conference today</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 15 Jul 2008 09:45:00 EST. Proving that no bit of news is to trivial for E3, Computer and Video Games presents (via a Nintendo press release) a <a href="http://www.computerandvideogames.com/article.php?id=192884">list of the presenters</a> planned for tomorrow's Nintendo press conference. They are:<br />
<ul>
    <li>Nintendo Co Ltd. President <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/satoru-iwata/">Satoru Iwata</a></li>
    <li>Nintendo of America President <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/ReggieFilsAime/">Reggie Fils-Aime</a></li>
    <li>Designer/producer/supervisor/god <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/miyamoto">Shigeru Miyamoto</a></li>
    <li>NOA Executive Vice President of Sales and Marketing <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/11/01/get-to-know-nintendos-new-marketing-chief/">Cammie Dunaway</a></li>
    <li>NOA Vice President of Marketing and Corporate Affairs <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/01/14/nintendo-welcomes-two-new-marketing-execs/">Denise Kaigler</a></li>
</ul>
Exciting, no? Really, there's nothing especially revelatory about this list of speakers. The question remains though, <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/07/11/nintendo-e3-2008-press-conference-lets-play-bingo/">what will they all speak about</a>? We'll find out tomorrow morning at 9 AM Pacific. Until then, of course, rampant speculation is welcome using the comments link below.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/07/14/speakers-for-tomorrows-nintendo-press-conference-revealed/">Speakers for tomorrow's Nintendo press conference revealed</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Mon, 14 Jul 2008 21:00:00 EST. According to an article over at Gamepro, core gamers shouldn't fret going into E3 this year. Even though Nintendo just unleashed <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/wii-fit"><em>Wii Fit</em></a> on us, the focus for their newest console isn't going to be <em>entirely</em> casual. "We recently announced the upcoming release of <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/06/10/guess-whos-in-mario-super-sluggers/"><em>Mario Super Sluggers</em></a>," said Marc Franklin, director of public relations at Nintendo, to Gamepro. "Additionally, we will be announcing several new titles that core gamers will be interested in around the time of E3."<br /><br />This is likely to be music to the ears of fanboys who've wondered where stellar-looking titles such as <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/05/19/day-of-crisis-not-a-disaster/"><em>Disaster: Day of Crisis</em></a> have been for their beloved console. But, this goes against what Reggie said, in a good way. Where the resident ass-kicker, name-taker said we should expect <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/03/17/reggie-big-wii-title-coming-this-holiday-revealed-during-e3/">one big title from Nintendo at E3</a>, we're liking the idea of "several new titles" that Franklin said. Let's hope we get a bunch of new games next month when the show goes down!<br /><br />[Thanks, Sonic_13!]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/06/17/nintendo-says-core-gamers-will-get-new-titles-at-e3/">Nintendo says core gamers will get new titles at E3</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 17 Jun 2008 13:15:00 EST. "I've heard strong rumors that Nintendo is going to unveil an all-new game with all-new characters," said senior GamePro editor Sid Shuman. A new game with new characters? Do tell!<br /><br />With <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/05/29/wii-fit-measures-my-apartment/"><em>Wii Fit</em></a> come and gone, as well as <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/06/04/make-short-work-of-mario-kart-wiis-grumble-volcano/">Mario Kart Wii</a> </em>and <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/category/brawl-stage-of-the-week/"><em>Super Smash Bros. <br />Sad news, if you're willing to buy into this rumor. According to QJ, a supposed Japanese press release was fired off by Nintendo where they explain that <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/04/10/new-scans-feature-disaster-super-mario-stadium/"><em>Disaster: Day of Crisis</em></a> has been put on indefinite hold. We're taking this with a big grain of salt, to be honest, because we don't want the rumor to be true and because QJ doesn't even source anything on the rumor.<br /><br />Without a credible source (or <em>any</em> source, for that matter), we're hard-pressed to buy into all of this. However, it's a good discussion topic, as many are still waiting for Reggie to deliver on his promise of delivering <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/03/17/reggie-big-wii-title-coming-this-holiday-revealed-during-e3/">a big Wii title at E3</a> and hoped this would be it. Until we hear more word on this, we're just going to sit in the corner, with our hands over our ears, singing to ourself as we refuse to buy into this.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/05/18/is-disaster-day-of-crisis-gone-forever/">Is Disaster: Day of Crisis gone forever?</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Sun, 18 May 2008 14:00:00 EST. With <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/wii-fit"><em>Wii Fit</em></a> almost out, our radar will soon be lacking in any kind of activity, as Nintendo has no titles on deck to satisfy our need to play the Wii. We've been thinking what their next big title will be and if, <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/03/17/reggie-big-wii-title-coming-this-holiday-revealed-during-e3/">like Reggie said</a>, it'll be available at E3 to play.<br /><br />So let's start tossing around ideas on this one. What do you think Nintendo's big game reveal will be at the show? Will they be pushing <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/04/10/new-scans-feature-disaster-super-mario-stadium/"><em>Disaster: Day of Crisis</em></a>, or will we see something else? What do you hope to see? What do you <em>expect</em> to see?<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/05/06/wii-warm-up-nintendos-next-big-wii-game/">Wii Warm Up: Nintendo's next big Wii game</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 06 May 2008 09:00:00 EST. DS Fanboy was even on hand with its own little <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/04/01/ten-devastating-april-fools-jokes/"><em>something something</em></a> to mark the occasion. Aside from telling you our most darkest fears, we broke news involving a certain Nintendo president and his theft (or, as he puts it, "discovery") of <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/04/01/2008s-april-fools-ds-pranks/">a rather large bag filled with popping corn</a>.<br /><br />Aside from that, we did manage to <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/2008s-april-fools-ds-pranks/729714/">round up some of the best pranks</a> the internet pulled yesterday, chronicling them all for your amusement.
