Each is half-off until May 14 at 3:59am GMT.

... Both Steam and GOG.com, which just added Alan Wake to its DRM-free library, are holding sales for the original title.

American Nightmare is available for 10% of a pre-order incentive at both stores; however, owners of the original Alan Wake on PC (from either Steam or GOG) will be able to pre-order American Nightmare for 25% off. Alan Wake is currently available on Steam for 50% off as part of its mid-week madness special.

[Original Story] It would seem Alan Wake isn't finished giving gamers nightmares. A product page has appeared on Steam for Alan Wake's American Nightmare, revealing that the previously XBLA-exclusive adventure is coming to PC.

Remedy confirmed to Joystiq the game will hit PC on May 22.

In April, American Nightmare appeared on the Steam registry, indicating a PC release was imminent. Based on the product description, it doesn't appear that the PC version will feature any new content. American Nightmare is currently available for pre-order on Steam at 10% off its regular $15 price point.
Alan Wake's American Nightmare scares PC players on May 22 [coming to GOG.com too!] originally appeared on Joystiq on Tue, 08 May 2012 15:00:00 EST. While we still can't confirm Alan Wake 2, we now know that Remedy is indeed hiring for the next generation of consoles. The developer has posted the hiring notice in the Alan Wake community site, stating that Remedy is "looking for world-class talent to work on an unannounced project targeted at future generation consoles."

The fact that the notice was posted on the Alan Wake site could be a hint as to what the next project will be, though it's important to note that the site also hosts forums for Remedy's other games, including American Nightmare, Death Rally and the first two Max Payne games. Still, Remedy has made it quite clear that there will be more Alan Wake, so a next gen entry to the series is definitely a possibility.

Speaking of Alan Wake, you know Joystiq has exclusive, never-before-seen episodes of Night Springs, right?
Remedy hiring for next-gen project originally appeared on Joystiq on Mon, 26 Mar 2012 20:30:00 EST. You're killing me," Remedy Entertainment's Oskari Hakkinen groaned when I pressed him for details on PC plans for Alan Wake's American Nightmare. "I've got nothing to announce at this point," he moans softly into his headset. After a moment of silence I burst into laughter and he quickly joins me.

As Head of Franchise Development, Oskari -- or Ozz, as he asks people to call him -- would certainly know Remedy's plan for Alan Wake's XBLA title coming to PC. But American Nightmare wasn't the basis for my call to the Finnish developer. It was Alan Wake's original tale I wanted to discuss, a game many skimmed past due to what many in the industry infuriatingly refer to as an "embarrassment of riches."

On the same day Alan Wake's long development process met its ultimate ship goal, it was greeted by a host of quality competition. Today, Microsoft revealed that Warp will be the party's first attendee, arriving on February 15 for the nice price of 800 MS Points ($10), followed up in the proceeding three weeks by Alan Wake's American sojourn, the almost-but-not-quite-Quake multiplayer shooter Nexuiz, and one man's journey through the depths of human survival in I Am Alive.

Like Warp, Nexuiz will only cost 800 MS Points ($10), while the other two titles will run 1200 MS Points a pop ($15). As always with these XBLA promos, Microsoft is offering an extra 800 free MS Points to anyone who grabs all four games within a defined time period (between Feb. 15 and Mar. 13 in this case). As for what to do with those extra points ... well, might we suggest hanging onto it for the upcoming launch of Fez? Steam's Alan Wake will not be available on Mac, won't use Games for Windows Live and won't have a demo. It will use Steamworks, support keyboard and Xbox 360 controller input, and will include The Signal and The Writer DLC packs with the game.

Alan Wake on Steam can support stereoscopic 3D through NVISION 3D, although it is performance-intensive, Remedy warns. For normal (see: "unfancy") gameplay, the expected system requirements are fairly standard, as you can see -- no flashlight required -- just after the break.
Continue reading Alan Wake alights on Steam in February, answers your FAQs now

Alan Wake alights on Steam in February, answers your FAQs now originally appeared on Joystiq on Fri, 20 Jan 2012 18:30:00 EST. Have you been waiting for the chance to move to the greater Helsinki, Finland area and want to work on a "groundbreaking AAA console project" with the folks behind the Max Payne and Alan Wake franchises? That's what Remedy Games is offering, outing work on another new game from the studio beyond the upcoming Alan Wake-goes-lumberjacking XBLA entry.

Specifically, Remedy is seeking a "Gameplay/AI Programmer" to help work on the project, which will apparently use "the next iteration of Remedy's in-house engine," an engine that previously powered both Alan Wake games. If the chance to assist in the project isn't enough to win you over, experienced AI programmer, Remedy also promises a competitive compensation package, including "a good old Finnish sauna!" And now here we are, picturing a Finnish sauna full of game developers. There goes the day!
Remedy seeking AI help on unannounced 'AAA console project' originally appeared on Joystiq on Mon, 16 Jan 2012 08:30:00 EST. In a recent interview Remedy Entertainment 's Oskari Häkkinen mentioned that the company's iOS experiment, Death Rally, has moved 1.8 million units. The game launched early last year, with Remedy Managing Director Matias Myllyrinne telling us at E3 that the game recouped its development costs in three days and took eight months to develop.

"Death Rally was our first step into that direction, and I'm sure that we'll do something else in the future as well," Remedy creative director and writer Sam Lake told Edge.
I'm pretty selfish. I know Alan deserves to be at home, sitting on the couch, watching reruns of Mad About You with his wife, but I prefer him on the front lines of the war against the forces of darkness. Who wants to play a game about a married couple being a boring married couple?

I loved the original Alan Wake, but doubted the writer would ever return after the original's underwhelming sales performance. But here we are, and even though Alan Wake's American Nightmare isn't the direct sequel I'll always hope for, my brief time with the game gives the impression that I won't be disappointed.

Gallery: Alan Wake's American Nightmare (12/19/2011)

Continue reading Surviving Alan Wake's American Nightmare

Surviving Alan Wake's American Nightmare originally appeared on Joystiq on Mon, 19 Dec 2011 15:00:00 EST. Remedy's hint for a PC port for Alan Wake was more than pillow talk, the developer has confirmed today. Alan Wake is slated to launch in early 2012 on the PC, right around the time Alan Wake's American Nightmare is planned for Xbox Live Arcade. Synergy!

Both DLC episodes, The Signal and The Writer, are hitching along for the ride, included in the PC version for free. Finally, the cream of the 2010 crop comes to the PC two years later ... and it's not even from Ubisoft.
Alan Wake may finally find the path to PC after almost two years of Xbox 360 exclusivity. Alan Wake forum users spotted telltale text in the Steam registry, indicating the game has (or had) some kind of presence on Valve's platform. This comes alongside Remedy's Executive VP Aki Järvilehto, passively mentioned the PC version to a Finnish website -- Just Push Start roughly translated him as saying there might be "some positive news to tell" PC fans in the near future.

During Alan Wake's lengthy development there was much back and forth about whether the game would ever launch on PC, with the scales eventually tipping toward console exclusivity.
Over a year later, and with a pseudo-sequel on the way for Xbox Live Arcade with Alan Wake's American Nightmare, we're hopeful for Alan's arrival on PC.
Rumor: Alan Wake hiding in Steam registry, Remedy hints at PC release originally appeared on Joystiq on Tue, 13 Dec 2011 18:00:00 EST. Looks like the rumors were right, at least partially: Alan Wake's American Nightmare will be an XBLA exclusive title wherein our titular hero is pitted against Mr. Scratch, an apparently egotistical and especially evil version of Alan. Evil birds, evil satellites and everything you'd expect lurks within the Spike TV Video Game Awards trailer, as well as in your very soul.
Alan Wake's American Nightmare is a spooky XBLA battle between light and dark originally appeared on Joystiq on Sat, 10 Dec 2011 21:01:00 EST. Alan Wake's American Nightmare was recently rated by Germany's USK ratings board. The previously unknown title comes just as Remedy is set to officially announce a new chapter in the Alan Wake saga. Given the title, we imagine it's about Wake being chased by corn syrup monsters and overly large food portions.

So, what is American Nightmare? It could be the official, recently adjusted name of Alan Wake's Night Springs, which is what we've been calling Wake's XBLA title ever since images leaked earlier this year.

Another possibility is that American Nightmare is simply Night Springs' title in Germany. Finally, as something that would be a genuine surprise: American Nightmare is a different Alan Wake project we know nothing about. The answer should be revealed this weekend during the Spike Video Game Awards, and we've asked Remedy for comment in the meantime.
'Alan Wake's American Nightmare' rated in Germany originally appeared on Joystiq on Thu, 08 Dec 2011 11:25:00 EST. You already know that Alan Wake's Night Springs is headed towards its big debut at the 2011 Spike Video Game Awards, and you already know that it'll arrive on Xbox Live Arcade. What you didn't know is that Mr. Wake has got himself a whole new "Bob Vila meets Twin Peaks" look going on, as revealed by Game Informer's exclusive first screenshot. Also, hey, he's got a gas-powered pneumatic nail gun! The darkness isn't gonna like nails in its stupid face, is it? Yeah!

It also appears that Wake's got quite a bit of walking ahead of him, as a nearby highway sign puts 15 miles between him and the titular town of Night Springs. Hopefully the Desert Shore Motel can help sate him for that journey with a damn fine cup of coffee and some delicious cherry pie.
Alan Wake's Night Springs goes 'This Old House' in first screen originally appeared on Joystiq on Mon, 07 Nov 2011 17:35:00 EST. There's been a not-insubstantial outcry of concern from fans of the Alan Wake franchise following the announcement that the series' next installment, Night Springs, would be an XBLA exclusive. Worried parties shouldn't fear a sea change in the original game's setup -- on the game's forums, Remedy community manager Peter Papadopoulos explained it will be "structured like a full release," asking posters to "wait for the official announcement before making up your mind." But ... but we've already rolled out our Jump to Conclusions mat!

Remedy CEO Markus Mäki also chimed in on the forums, adding, "If you're thinking about this in terms of some kind of a, I don't know, super simplified 'we still use the name but changed everything about it' version of Alan Wake, let me just say that this is not the case. That's all I'm gonna say."

Other than these defensive statements, all we have to go on is the meager announcement from yesterday, as well as the supposedly leaked title screen acquired by XBLAFans this past May, posted above. We'll have to wait until the VGAs to see the game in action -- or, as the title screen would seem to hint at, in "Arcade Action."
Alan Wake's Night Springs developer defends decision to go XBLA originally appeared on Joystiq on Fri, 04 Nov 2011 11:05:00 EST. Rumors of an Alan Wake sequel have been circling about since ... well, since Alan Wake and its DLC expansions left the door wide open for one. But also since the phrase "Alan Wake 2" first appeared on an artist's resume back in May. Developer Remedy confirmed with Joystiq that it was working on more Wake, though "this next Wake installment will not be Alan Wake 2," it said. "But neither will it be DLC." How appropriately mysterious! And now a rumor from Xbox World magazine says that Remedy is indeed working on Alan Wake 2, for the next-gen Xbox.

"We hear a number of Microsoft-friendly developers are hard at work on prepping next gen games as we speak. Could this be the reason why Remedy are so quiet about Alan Wake 2? (Yes)," the magazine responded to itself. "Rare, Lionhead and Turn 10 all have teams in place too. Rare, we hear, are even prototyping ideas for a new 'mature title,'" the mag adds.

We spoke with Microsoft Studios chief Phil Spencer at E3 this year, who said he read about the project on Joystiq and had no involvement with it at that time. "I think the stuff they're doing now they wanted to incubate, Mattias and the team," Spencer said. "They wanted to incubate internally. Like I said, I don't think they've signed it with anybody." Spencer also insisted that Microsoft Studios had no next-gen games in development and was instead completely focused on Xbox 360 and Kinect software.

I think we speak for everyone (in the world) when we say that we don't care which platform Alan Wake 2 comes out on, just so long as it has a killer multiplayer deathmatch mode. We're kidding.
Rumor: Alan Wake 2 in production (for the next Xbox) originally appeared on Joystiq on Tue, 04 Oct 2011 16:40:00 EST. Oskari Häkkinen, head of franchise development for Finnish developer Remedy Entertainment, told Joystiq last month that, in fact, a new Alan Wake project was under development. Admittedly, we were getting a little ahead of ourselves when we arrived at E3 this year in full Alan Wake cosplay so the absence of the latest A. Wake project - rumored to be an XBLA title called Alan Wake's Night Springs - hit us pretty hard.

So we tracked down Microsoft Studios chief Phil Spencer to grill him about Remedy's reveal and the dearth of Alan Wake games in Microsoft's E3 lineup. "I read that," Spencer said, laughing about the news. "I don't know that they've signed it with anybody." While Spencer told us that Wake "didn't sell as well as we would have liked," he was clear that it wouldn't affect their working relationship. "I'd love to work with Remedy again," he told us. "We have ongoing conversations with them."

So if Microsoft isn't privy to what Remedy's working on, who is? "I think the stuff they're doing now they wanted to incubate, Mattias and the team," Spencer said. "They wanted to incubate internally. Like I said, I don't think they've signed it with anybody." Well, as long as that's the case, we'll have our Joystiq Publishing representatives get in touch with Remedy and work something out. Our backrub-heavy royalty system is an industry first.
Microsoft Studios hasn't signed next Alan Wake project, would 'love to work with Remedy again' originally appeared on Joystiq on Fri, 10 Jun 2011 01:00:00 EST. Remedy is known for Alan Wake and Max Payne, but the studio also recently helped produce Death Rally for iOS, a game that has been very successful for the studio. Remedy Managing Director Matias Myllyrinne told us during E3 that the game recouped its development costs in three days on the App Store and took a mere eight months to develop.

"A lot of the credit goes to Mountain Sheep for developing a great fun game. We produced it, took it forward and helped - but the heavy lifting is with the dev team as always," Myllyrinne said.

We asked if the success of Death Rally has shifted the studio's priorities. "I think in terms of priorities, Remedy will continue to do what we do best. We love our big movie-like story driven action games - but it is also about applying these strengths in new ways too. There are awesome things happening with digital stuff like XBLA, Steam, iPhones etc. Where you can build a killer value and fun at a low price point and still make money."
