Shuffling along at half-price are <em>Residents Evils 4-6</em> and <em>Operation Raccoon City, </em>taking <a href="http://marketplace.xbox.com/en-US/Product/Resident-Evil-4/66acd000-77fe-1000-9115-d8024343081c"><em>4</em></a> and <a href="http://marketplace.xbox.com/en-US/Product/RESIDENT-EVIL-5/66acd000-77fe-1000-9115-d802434307d4"><em>5</em></a> to to $9.99 and the <a href="http://marketplace.xbox.com/en-US/Product/RESIDENT-EVIL-6/66acd000-77fe-1000-9115-d80243430819">other</a> <a href="http://marketplace.xbox.com/en-US/Product/Resident-Evil-Operation-Raccoon-City/66acd000-77fe-1000-9115-d8024343081d">two</a> to $19.99. Savings-wise, the pick of the bunch is <em><a href="http://marketplace.xbox.com/en-us/Product/RESIDENT-EVIL-CODE-Veronica-X/66acd000-77fe-1000-9115-d80243430822">Code Veronica</a>, </em>with today's discount digesting 75 percent of its insides and only leaving behind a stump of $4.99.<br /><br />As ever - well, until March 4 - there's a <a href="http://marketplace.xbox.com/en-US/Promotion/ultimate-game-sale-0226-0305">groaning mass</a> of other Games on Demand at sale-severed prices, and one of those groaners is <em>Grid</em>. With the second Grid game <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2013/01/31/grid-2-slides-into-north-america-may-28-may-31-elsewhere/">nearing the finish line</a>, $4.99 is a decent price at which to dive into Codemasters' racer series. <p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2013/02/28/resident-evil-series-shambles-into-xbox-lives-ultimate-game-sal/">Resident Evil series shambles into Xbox Live's Ultimate Game Sale</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 28 Feb 2013 09:05:00 EST. So here we are, with a list of 2011's top sellers on the PlayStation Network ... and we've got two lists dominated by one game from 1985, and one from 2010.<br /><br />Speaking only in terms of <em>full games</em>, not "paid downloads" (like DLC packs for <em>Black Ops</em>) and PS Minis, the list is a hodgepodge of nostalgia-fueled favorites from yesteryear (like <em>Tetris</em> in its curiously lofty number one spot<em>)</em>, and digitally distributed future-classics like <em>Castle Crashers</em> and <em>Limbo</em>, which ranked in at six and seven respectively. There's on important thread tying those together: none of those games launched in 2011.<br /><br />When <em>all</em> digital sales are taken into account, however, the list becomes an entirely different beast, and the only actual game present within the top 10 is <em>Angry Birds</em>, of all things (a PS Mini). In fact, the three best-selling anythings on the PlayStation Network in 2011 were <em>Black Ops</em> DLC packs, followed closely by a cavalcade of <em>FIFA Soccer 12</em> and <em>MLB 11</em> sundries. At least the DLC came out in 2011! Hop past the break for the full breakdown of both lists, care of <a href="http://www.gameinformer.com/b/news/archive/2012/01/23/the-best-selling-psn-games-of-2011.aspx">Game Informer</a>.<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/01/24/psns-best-selling-games-of-2011-list-dominated-by-games-not-fro/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>PSN's best selling games of 2011 list dominated by games not from 2011</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/01/24/psns-best-selling-games-of-2011-list-dominated-by-games-not-fro/">PSN's best selling games of 2011 list dominated by games not from 2011</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 24 Jan 2012 15:30:00 EST. Another port of <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/resident-evil-4"><em>Resident Evil 4</em></a>. Seriously though, up until now Android users have been left out in the plagas-infested cold when it comes to Leon and Ashley's romp through rural Spain, which is a pretty sad thought when you consider that <em>RE4</em> is available on everything from the iPhone to the <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Zeebo">Zeebo</a>.<br /><br />There is good news for the ultra-specific Resident Evil enthusiast, however, provided that they live in Korea and have an LTE-enabled Android device by LG. Yes, <em>RE4</em> is finally coming to Google's little robot, but only on LG's LTE U+ Market ecosystem, which happens to exist exclusively in Korea. The port, which is likely itself a port of the iOS version, could eventually make its way to other Android devices, similar to how <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/street-fighter-IV-HD"><em>Street Fighter IV HD</em></a>'s limited-exclusivity situation keeps it on LG devices until May. For now though, the title is only available in Korea for ₩5,000, or $4.41.<br /><br />[Thanks, Waylan!]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/01/22/resident-evil-4-on-android-exclusive-to-koreas-lg-lte-market/">Resident Evil 4 on Android, exclusive to Korea's LG LTE market (for now)</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Sun, 22 Jan 2012 19:00:00 EST. We get it: every October, it's all about basketball and bank robberies for us, so naturally the top-grossing games on PSN for the month revolve around similar subject matter. The <a href="http://blog.us.playstation.com/2011/11/07/psn-top-sellers-october-2011-edition/">PlayStation Blog</a> reports that the two top games purchased and installed in October are <em>NBA Jam: On Fire Edition </em>and <em>Payday: The Heist</em> in first and second place, respectively.<br />
<br />
Taking third place was the re-release of <em>Crysis</em>, followed by <em>Chrono Trigger </em>and <em>Resident Evil 4 HD</em>. Also, we're glad to see <em>Odin Sphere</em> debut in the charts at number 15 -- you may recall, its release is part of the "<a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/10/03/ps2-games-going-digital-in-only-on-playstation-network-campaig/">Only on PlayStation Network</a>" campaign where select PS2 games were given new life as PSN titles. We're all for older games (especially good ones) finding a new audience!<br />
<br />
You can see the full list of October's top-earners through the source link below. Just try not to flip out too much when you see <em>Real Steel</em> rank higher than <em>God Hand</em>.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/11/10/nba-jam-and-payday-top-october-psn-sales/">NBA Jam and Payday top October PSN sales</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 10 Nov 2011 06:00:00 EST. The latest trailers and screenshots for Capcom's renovated, HD versions of <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/resident-evil-4">Resident Evil 4</a></em> and <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/resident-evil-code-veronica-x">Code Veronica X</a></em> are a mixed bag. <em>RE4</em> is looking moderately better with the HD spit-shine, but the somewhat more antiquated <em>Veronica</em> looks ... well, like a recently face-lifted grandma.<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/07/27/resident-evil-4-and-code-veronica-x-hd-assets-slap-some-new-on-t/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Resident Evil 4 and Code Veronica X HD assets slap some new on the old</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/07/27/resident-evil-4-and-code-veronica-x-hd-assets-slap-some-new-on-t/">Resident Evil 4 and Code Veronica X HD assets slap some new on the old</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 27 Jul 2011 14:30:00 EST. Fresh news out of Comic-Con for zombie hunters and presidential-daughter-babysitting-simulator enthusiasts alike: the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/03/24/resident-evil-4-code-veronica-hd-downloads/">previously announced HD remakes</a> of <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/Resident-Evil-4"><em>Resident Evil 4</em></a> and <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/Resident-Evil-Code-Veronica-X">Resident Evil: Code Veronica X</a> </em>will be shambling and moaning onto US shores this September.<br />
<br />
<em>RE4HD</em> lands on September 20, with <em>Code Veronica X HD</em>'s charmingly incomprehensible plot following a week later on September 27. That's a few weeks after the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/07/08/resident-evil-games-assembled-in-15th-anniversary-box/">far superior Japanese launch</a>, not that we're bitter or anything. Both titles will be available at your local brick &amp; mortar, through the PlayStation Network and as Xbox Live Games On Demand titles.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/07/23/resident-evil-4-hd-and-re-code-veronica-x-hd-infect-the-us-this/">Resident Evil 4 HD and RE: Code Veronica X HD infect the US this September</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Sat, 23 Jul 2011 21:30:00 EST. Much like <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/07/08/resident-evil-code-veronica-x-hd-achievements-revealed/">the Achievements for <em>Code Veronica X HD</em></a>, the Achievements for <em>Resident Evil 4 HD</em> mostly revolve around story progression, save for two we're sure are going to give you a tough time. The "What are they worth?" and "The S stands for stylish!!" Achievements can be unlocked only after you acquire all bottlecaps and costumes, respectively.<br />
<br />
Succeeding in that doubly tough endeavor will get you 250 Gamerscore (out of the possible 1,000). And if there's something more important than imaginary points tied to one platform, <em>we don't wanna hear about it</em>.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/07/14/resident-evil-4-hds-achievements-revealed/">Resident Evil 4 HD's Achievements revealed</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 14 Jul 2011 23:00:00 EST. Without looking, we'd like for you to tell us where all of your various and sundry <em>Resident Evil</em> games are located right now. Your copy of <em>Resident Evil 4</em> is out of its box, lying face-up on the entertainment center? <em>Code Veronica</em> is in a box in the attic? <em>Resident Evil 2</em> is in the oven? You clearly need a better way of keeping tabs on them -- like, for instance, having nearly all of the franchise's main entries enclosed in Capcom's recently announced <a href="http://www.andriasang.com/e/blog/2011/07/08/resident_evil_box/">15th Anniversary Box</a>.<br />
<br />
The bundle, which will be available in Japan through <a href="http://www.e-capcom.com/ec/srDispProductDetailCsLink/doColorSizeLink/1/1/A10003113/10/10/srDispProductDetail/1">e-Capcom</a> this September, contains the three PSOne <em>Resident Evils</em>, <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/resident-evil-revival-selection"><em>Revival Selection</em></a> (the HD remastering of <em>RE4</em> and <em>Code Veronica</em>) and soundtracks for the two games in the <em>Revival Selection</em>.<br />
<br />
<em>Resident Evil 5</em> is not included in the package, but the Box does include a spacer in which to keep your copy. Voila! No more scratched, misplaced or broiled discs.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/07/08/resident-evil-games-assembled-in-15th-anniversary-box/">Resident Evil games assembled in 15th Anniversary Box</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Fri, 08 Jul 2011 10:55:00 EST. In the words of Wesker himself, nobody could have ever predicted "it" would spread so fast. We assume he's referring to the <em>Resident Evil</em> franchise, which will see five (<em>five</em>) <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/03/24/resident-evil-4-code-veronica-hd-downloads/">different</a> <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/resident-evil-the-mercenaries-3d">releases</a> <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/resident-evil-revelations">this</a> <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/resident-evil-operation-raccoon-city">year</a>. See footage of them all in the <em>Resident Evil</em> 15th anniversary trailer after the break.<br />
<br />
One thing to note: Both <em>Code: Veronica X HD</em> and <em>Resident Evil 4 HD</em> are promoted with the Xbox Live "Games on Demand" logo beneath their titles (as opposed to the Xbox Live Arcade logo). It's possible that Capcom is opting to distribute the titles under the Games on Demand platform in North America (where they will be <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/03/24/resident-evil-4-code-veronica-hd-downloads/">download-only</a>) in order to bypass the 2GB size limit placed on XBLA titles.<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/04/05/albert-wesker-presents-the-resident-evil-15th-anniversary-trail/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Albert Wesker presents: The Resident Evil 15th anniversary trailer</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/04/05/albert-wesker-presents-the-resident-evil-15th-anniversary-trail/">Albert Wesker presents: The Resident Evil 15th anniversary trailer</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 05 Apr 2011 16:30:00 EST. Though Capcom has big plans to release an HD relaunch of its frequently relaunched survival horror title, <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/resident-evil-4"><em>Resident Evil 4</em></a>, the PC modding community has beaten the company to the punch. If you're interested in the HD versions of <em>Resident Evil 4</em> and <em>Code Veronica X</em> included in the <a href="http://joystiq.com/game/resident-evil-revival-selection"><em>Resident Evil: Revival Selection</em></a>, you'll be able to acquire them in an exceptionally convenient manner: through Xbox Live Arcade and PSN.<br />
<br />
Capcom just announced that the two ports will be released as downloads in North America this fall -- as separate games, as opposed to the bundled release Capcom is planning for Japan. Check out more screens of the HD version of <em>Resident Evil 4</em> in our gallery. Or just check out the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/resident-evil-hd-logos/">logos</a> for both games. The <a href="http://www.capcom.co.jp/bhrs/">official website</a> for Capcom's <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/resident-evil-revival-selection"><em>Resident Evil: Revival Selection</em></a> has launched, debuting a handful of screens showing how its constituent games (<em>Resident Evil 4</em> and <em>Code Veronica</em>) will look on the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3. Check out these few screenshots in the gallery below, or hit up the official site for more info on the collection.<br />
<br />
The difference isn't super clear, except in the comparison shot posted above -- though we can't help but wonder if the left, standard resolution side of that image is a poor representation of the original game. It's been a while since we played <em>Resident Evil 4</em>, but we don't remember ever yelling, "Oh, man, shoot that big gray thing with your ... gun? Is that a gun? It kind of looks like a cigar, and I don't think that's going to be very helpful in this particular scenario."<br />

<br />
Sorry, but that's the closest onomatopoeia we could come up with for the sound of confetti coming out of a giant cannon. What's the occasion? Why, it's the one millionth port of <em>Resident Evil 4</em>! It's a big honor, and it goes to <em>Biohazard</em> (Resident Evil)<em>: Revival Selection</em>, a set of high-definition updates of <em>RE 4</em> and <em>Code Veronica, </em>that Famitsu says is headed to 360 and PS3. According to Andriasang, the full title may be "Resident Evil Revival Selection HD Remastered Version," and fair warning: If we have to type that out in full every time, we'll never cover this game again.<br />
<br />
The updates, which have only been announced for Japan at the moment, will feature <em>RE 4</em>'s bonus Ada Wong scenario, "Separate Ways."<br />
<br />
Dirk the Daring was unavailable as of press time to comment on the possibility of these upstarts <a href="http://www.digitalleisure.com/contents/pressRelease/press_101123.htm">shattering his record</a>. That said, if any STARS agents come up missing, we'll make Singe's belly the first spot we check.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/03/23/resident-evil-revival-selection/">Resident Evil: Revival Selection brings RE4 and Code Veronica to 360, PS3</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 23 Mar 2011 08:36:00 EST. After five long years of careful manicuring, your hair is <em>finally,</em> perfectly coifed -- just like <em>Resident Evil 4's</em> Leon S. Kennedy. You've got that devil-may-care attitude down, ammo clips holstered around each thigh, and you're <em>all about</em> saving the president's daughter. The only thing left? <em>Fingerless gloves</em>. Oh, and also Leon's not-so-cheap, replica bomber jacket, now available to pre-order directly from Capcom's Japan-only online store -- though you'll have to go through a proxy service if you live outside Japan. (Game Swag has <a href="http://gameswag.com/help/buying-selling/#services">listed</a> some of them.)<br />
<br />
The e-Capcom store has dated the first shipments of the jacket for "early January," so you may want to start saving up the &yen;26,040 (about $315, plus the proxy fee), um, like, probably a few months ago. Or maybe just scour your neighborhood for treasure chests? That's what Leon would do.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/12/27/complete-your-leon-kennedy-cosplay-with-his-bomber-jacket/">Complete your Leon Kennedy cosplay with his bomber jacket</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Mon, 27 Dec 2010 17:05:00 EST. Anxious to beef up your iOS device's game library? Capcom's slashed the price on eight of its games, offering each for $.99 this weekend only. Here's the list:
<ul>
    <li>Resident Evil 4 (previously $4.99)</li>
    <li>1942: First Strike (previously $1.99)</li>
    <li>Mega Man II (previously $2.99)</li>
    <li>Dark Void Zero (previously $2.99)</li>
    <li>Cash Cab (previously $4.99)</li>
    <li>Cash Cab: Las Vegas (previously $1.99)</li>
    <li>Are You Smarter Than A 5th Grader? 2010 (previously $1.99)</li>
    <li>Who Wants To Be A Millionaire 2010 (previously $1.99)</li>
</ul>
If we had to suggest one, we'd have to go with <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/04/07/dark-void-zero-landing-on-iphone-and-pc-april-12/">Dark Void Zero</a></em>, but if you're looking to <em>maximize the savings</em>, you can't go wrong with <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/resident-evil-4"><em>Resident Evil 4</em></a>. Happy bargain hunting!<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/09/24/select-capcom-ios-games-only-99-this-weekend/">Select Capcom iOS games only $.99 this weekend</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Fri, 24 Sep 2010 06:00:00 EST. There's a new version of <em>Resident Evil 4</em></strong></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">by Justin McElroy</div>
<br />
The sun rises.<br />
A baby issues forth its first cry.<br />
And another version of <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/resident-evil-4"><em>Resident Evil 4</em></a> is <a href="http://www.marketwire.com/press-release/Capcom-Announces-Resident-Evil-4-iPad-Edition-1142283.htm">released</a>.<br />
<br />
It is $12.99.<br />
It has better graphics than on iPhone.<br />
It is irrefutable proof that time is soldiering on.<br />
<br />
Tonight, the sun will set.<br />
An old man will draw his last breath.<br />
But we sleep, knowing full well that the cycle begins anew tomorrow.<br />

<div style="text-align: right;"><small>[<a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/steve-o_the_jackass/">SteveO526</a>]</small></div>
At 88 years young, <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/ralph-baer">Ralph Baer</a> is one of our favorite adults (or <em>super adults</em>, as we like to call those over the age of 70 among us). After inventing <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/pong">Pong</a></em> (and resultantly, the Magnavox Odyssey), Baer went on to create the rage-inducing electronic board game <em>Simon</em>, and just this past week was inducted into the Inventors Hall of Fame for his work. He was the first game developer to have earned the award.<br />
<br />
According to the event's <a href="http://www.invent.org/presskit/2010/NIHF%20Fact%20Sheet%202010.doc">fact sheet</a> (warning: download link), inductees need to meet two specific criteria before being considered: "[One] The inventor must hold a US patent, and [Two] the invention must have contributed to the welfare of mankind and have promoted the progress of science and the useful arts." The National Selection Committee (representing "various scientific, industry, and professional groups along with a Blue Ribbon Panel of experts") then chooses said inductees.<br />
<br />
In <a href="http://www.invent.org/hall_of_fame/406.html">his bio</a>, the committee specifically notes Baer's accolades in the game industry, calling him "a pioneer in the field of interactive video games" -- an assessment we tend to agree with. We've already got a suggestion for next year, though, guys: <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/shinji-mikami">Shinji Mikami</a>. Obviously for bringing the world the <a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7oXx0qwe0wc">"What're ya buyin' / sellin'?" guy</a> in <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/resident-evil-4">Resident Evil 4</a></em>, forever changing the way we conduct business. For those unfortunate would-be Leon Kennedys, Capcom has released yet another version of <em>RE4</em> to the iPhone App Store -- the second for iPhone and the third for mobile in general.<br />
<br />
This version adds a new "beginners" difficulty mode, in addition to four other difficulties. It also adds a new "Mercenary Mode," a "Coin Shoot" mode, and a new tutorial. And if you're <em>such</em> a <em>Resident Evil</em> neophyte that you don't even know if you <em>want</em> to play it, you can buy it in chapters. The initial pack includes two chapters for 99 cents, with the rest of the game available via in-app purchase.<br />

Aside from efforts like <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/the-conduit"><em>The Conduit</em></a> and <i>Call of Duty: World at War</i>, Nintendo's Wii hasn't exactly enjoyed a glut of capable FPS titles. According to a recent interview with games[TM] (via <a href="http://www.nowgamer.com/news/2119/aonuma-wanted-to-make-crossbow-training-2">NowGamer</a>), <em>Zelda</em> director Eiji Aonuma recognizes this -- and sees great potential for fixing that problem in <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/links-crossbow-training">Link's Crossbow Training</a></em>, the pack-in minigame included with the Wii Zapper. "To tell you the truth, I actually wanted to create <em>Link's Crossbow Training 2</em> ... I thought that we should do something more and better in the field of the first-person shooter." Wait, haven't we heard this <a href="http://nintendo.joystiq.com/2008/05/09/miyamoto-links-crossbow-training-is-fps-training/">before</a>? <br />
<br />
Unfortunately for Aonuma, the execs above him at Nintendo didn't think much of the idea, nixing it in favor of a completely new entry in the <em>Zelda</em> series. "I was thinking that maybe we could intensify the multiplayer mode ... [but] a lot of people inside Nintendo insisted that I should work on a new <em>Legend of Zelda</em> title." We're sorry about that, Mr. Aonuma! And to the Nintendo executives who killed a sequel to <em>Link's Crossbow Training</em>, we'd like to personally thank you.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/12/26/nintendos-aonuma-pitched-links-crossbow-training-2/">Nintendo's Aonuma pitched Link's Crossbow Training 2</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Sat, 26 Dec 2009 19:00:00 EST. Zeebo, the 3G console available in countries like Brazil, Russia and China, reminds us that right after food, water and shelter, access to <em><a href="http://www.businesswire.com/portal/site/home/permalink/?ndmViewId=news_view&amp;newsId=20091109005071&amp;newsLang=en">Resident Evil 4</a> </em>should be a top priority for all developing nations. It was revealed yesterday that Capcom will use the MascotCapsule eruption engine to port the well-received mobile version of <em>RE 4</em> to the platform.<br /> <br /> You know, it's funny, we know <em>Resident Evil 4 </em>was a classic, but we never expected it to become the new <em>Tetris</em> -- ported to every system imaginable. Remember that <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/07/13/rumor-resident-evil-4-for-iphone-accidentally-released-quickly/">super-polished</a> version of <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/resident-evil-4"><em>Resident Evil 4</em></a> we saw strutting its stuff on iPhone? Well, it's available <em>right now</em> for purchase in the App Store -- and suspiciously squashed down to 37.3 MB. While the game sits on the pricier side of the app spectrum (and is missing elements from the console versions), <em>anything</em> called "Resident Evil 4" is almost impossible for us to resist. Japanese iPhone / iPod Touch app site <a href="http://www.appbank.net/2009/07/13/iphone-application/37395.php">AppBank</a> was evidently able to download a copy of <em>Resident Evil 4: Mobile Edition </em>from the region's App Store before it was pulled down, as evidenced by gameplay video and screenshots taken by the site. <a href="http://toucharcade.com/2009/07/13/resident-evil-4-mobile-edition-video-accidental-early-release/">Touch Arcade</a> picked up on the news, but details beyond the quasi-leaked media are scant. It appears that the game is -- as its title suggests -- a mobile version of <em>RE4</em>, and from the video it's clear that players have full control over Leon Kennedy's movement via an on-screen thumbstick, entering aiming mode when another icon is pressed.<br /><br />We've put in word to Capcom's US division to find out exactly what we're looking at and how it seemingly slipped out. In the meantime, check out AppBank's video after the break.<br /><br />[Via <a href="http://toucharcade.com/2009/07/13/resident-evil-4-mobile-edition-video-accidental-early-release/">Touch Arcade</a>; thanks, MagikOvenMit!]<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/07/13/rumor-resident-evil-4-for-iphone-accidentally-released-quickly/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Rumor: Resident Evil 4 for iPhone accidentally released, quickly pulled</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/07/13/rumor-resident-evil-4-for-iphone-accidentally-released-quickly/">Rumor: Resident Evil 4 for iPhone accidentally released, quickly pulled</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Mon, 13 Jul 2009 20:30:00 EST. Well, isn't that just adorable. We put a picture for you after the break if you're still completely confused.<br /><br />It seems that after being <em>utterly abandoned</em> during <em>Resident Evil 5</em>, the merchant from <em>RE4</em> has taken up a job in the world of <em>Fat Princess</em>. If you're like us (<em>lucky!</em>), at times you've wondered while munching on green herbs why Capcom opted to rename <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/resident-evil"><em>Resident Evil</em></a> from its original, if not equally silly sounding Japanese title, <em>Biohazard</em>. It turns out this is one scheme that can't be pinned on <a href="http://residentevil.wikia.com/wiki/Albert_Wesker">Albert Wesker</a>. Capcom's Chris Kramer explained to <a href="http://www.gamesradar.com/f/gr-asks-why-was-biohazard-renamed-resident-evil/a-2009040810553131032">GamesRadar</a> that, as with so many conspiracies, it all came down to marketing. <br /><br />"In late 1994, Capcom Entertainment in the US was starting to ramp up marketing plans for the game," explained Kramer, who pointed out that while the company had settled on the name <em>Biohazard </em>for Japan, "it would be next to impossible for Capcom to register the name in the US." He called out a "crappy DOS-based game" and a New York-based punk band, both named 'Biohazard,' as potential hurdles to securing the title. "As a result," recalled Kramer, "the head of marketing held a company-wide contest to come up with a new name for the game."<br /><br />The winner, of course, was 'Resident Evil,' a groan-worthy pun given that the first game took place in a mansion. It's a title that Kramer himself voted against, calling it "super-cheesy." And now you know. And knowing is half the ... OH CRAP, BEHIND YOU!<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/04/10/history-lesson-why-biohazard-is-resident-evil-out-west/">History lesson: Why Biohazard is Resident Evil out West</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Fri, 10 Apr 2009 02:00:00 EST. He may have covered wars, but when Frank West makes a <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/dead-rising">return visit</a> to the Willamette Parkview Mall to buy a case of waggle, he'll do so without his trusty camera in tow. Rather than blaming brain freeze (journalists are prone to this, you see) Capcom explains that the shutterbug's best friend was chopped in favor of a camera of a different sort.<br /><br />According to <a href="http://omgnintendo.blogfaction.com/article/106511/why-frank-west-cant-take-pictures-in-dead-rising-wii/">OMG Nintendo</a>, Minoru Nakai, director and producer on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/dead-rising-chop-till-you-drop/"><em>Dead Rising: Chop Til You Drop</em></a>, describes the upcoming Wii port as "a very different game" than the Xbox 360 original, with a <em>Resident Evil 4</em>-style camera that "stays fairly tight behind Frank." Apparently this makes snapping pics, erotic or otherwise, of the undead not work so well.<br /><br />We hope Frank doesn't feel too naked without his trusty 35mm, though it looks like the photojournalist has that situation <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/05/02/dead-rising-star-shows-up-in-lost-planet-colonies/">well in hand</a>.<br /><br />[Via <a href="http://www.n4g.com/News-265284.aspx">N4G</a>]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/01/27/why-theres-no-photography-in-dead-rising-wii/">Why there's no photography in Dead Rising Wii</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 27 Jan 2009 10:11:00 EST. The Capcom store will be holding a special promotion starting tomorrow and running through Sunday where you can get 15% off the purchase of two Wii games and 25% off of your purchase of three or more. On top of that, if your order is over $75, then Capcom will ship your order for free.<br /><br />What's interesting is that apparently pre-orders work here. In their Capcom blog post, they mention that the soon-to-release <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/06/05/fawkner-talks-up-neopets/"><em>Neopets Puzzle Adventure</em></a> qualifies for this, so we're assuming others do as well, including <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/dead-rising"><em>Dead Rising: Chop 'Til You Drop</em></a>.<br /><br /><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/11/27/capcom-store-holds-black-friday-promotion/">Capcom store holds Black Friday promotion</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 27 Nov 2008 12:00:00 EST. You know, where we make a statement and then <em>italicize the second part of the sentence to indicate that this is where the funny is</em>. When you work in cynicism, sentimentality and unfettered joy are difficult to host. You can't be contemptuous one moment but filled with child-like joy the next. Thus, we tend to judge the value of holidays based primarily on if it grants us a day off from work. <br /><br /> Yet one holiday that seems to entertain even the crabbiest of bloggers is Halloween. Around the world, the lead-up to October 31st has us enjoying the orange and black decorations, scanning late-night cable for horror movies, and attempting to rationalize buying abundant amounts of candy at the counter of the drug store. Sure, we can be as bitter and weathered as we allow ourselves to be, but there's no denying the joy of carving pumpkins, piecing together a costume, and perhaps even enjoying a good scare or two. <br /><br /> As gaming is always finding new ways to entertain us, fans of things that go bump in the night have no shortage of spooky games. Developers have been attempting to give us frights ever since the obscenely terrible <em>Halloween</em> for the Atari 2600. Good gameplay can survive regardless of technology, but generating a convincing scare is <em>usually</em> dependent on quality audio and visuals. Since top-notch technology and mature content have inconsistently been attributes of Nintendo, our favorite line of consoles is slightly lacking in good scares. But while the <em>Silent Hills</em> and <em>Fatal Frames</em> of the other guys have given us plenty of sleepless nights, Nintendo's consoles are home to a handful of underwear-changing moments. Here's the Top 5 moments that, speaking in strict technical terms, <em>give us the heebie-jeebies</em>. <br /></div> <br /> <div align="center"> </div> <div class="buttontext"> <div align="center"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/10/27/top-5-5" id="ninbutton">NEXT &gt;&gt; </a></div> </div> <style type="text/css"> #ninbutton { border-style: solid; border-color: #000; border-width: 2px; background-color: #BBB; color: #000; text-decoration: none; width: 100px; text-align: center; padding: 2px 2px 2px 2px; margin: 2px 2px 2px 2px; } .buttontext { color: #000; text-decoration: none; font: bold 14pt Helvetica; } #ninbutton:hover { text-decoration: none; color: #BBB; background-color: #000; } </style> <center> </center><br /> <div style="border-top: 1px solid; padding-top: 5px;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/category/top-five/"><img hspace="4" border="1" align="left" vspace="4" src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2008/07/top5_thumbnail_kd_20080702.jpg" alt="" /></a><em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/category/top-five/">The Top 5</a> is a weekly feature that provides us with a forum to share our opinions on various aspects of the video game culture, and provides you with a forum to tell us how wrong we are. We'd like to share the game comparison video one person <span style="font-style: italic;">dared</span> to create. One person who goes by the <span style="font-style: italic;">nom de keyboard </span>of "WiiSixty" on <a href="http://www.gametrailers.com/player/usermovies/244701.html">GameTrailers</a>, which is fitting since they've created a short subject film pitting <span style="font-style: italic;"></span><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/resident-evil-4"><span style="font-style: italic;">Resident Evil 4</span></a> for Wii against <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/resident-evil-5"><span style="font-style: italic;">Resident Evil 5</span></a> for 360.<br /><br />The video runs on a bit, but it nevertheless does a solid job of comparing everything from weapon reload animations to door opening animations (helpfully shown above) to the way enemies react when shot. We'll give you one guess which game's prettier overall, but we think the gameplay similarities between the two might surprise you. Well, maybe they won't, since we've <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/07/17/joystiq-e3-hands-on-resident-evil-5/">already talked about</a> just how much <span style="font-style: italic;">won't </span>be changing from <span style="font-style: italic;">RE4</span> to <span style="font-style: italic;">RE5</span>.<br /><br />(<span style="font-weight: bold;">Note</span>: Looks like the embeddable video has caught a bad case of the T-virus; you'll have to hit up <a href="http://www.gametrailers.com/player/usermovies/244701.html">GameTrailers</a> to watch it.)<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/07/29/video-of-resident-evil-4-versus-resident-evil-5-showcases-scary/">Resident Evil 4 vs. Resident Evil 5 vid showcases scary similarities</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 29 Jul 2008 11:15:00 EST. There's a lot of speculation about <em>Resident Evil 5</em> coming to the Wii, especially after <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/07/23/rumor-resident-evil-5-rears-its-ugly-head-once-more/">a statement made by Simon Jeffery</a> added some fuel to the fire. Perhaps because of such rumors, or perhaps for fun, one fan decided to make a comparison between <em>Resident Evil 4</em> and what we've seen so far of <em>Resident Evil 5</em>.<br /><br />After watching the video, we don't see why the game <em>couldn't</em> come to the Wii. Granted, the graphics won't be as pretty, but everything else should translate simply enough. With that said, we wouldn't be surprised if Capcom one day ported the game, especially after announcing <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/07/25/dead-rising-compare-til-you-drop/">Dead Rising: Chop 'Til You Drop</a></em> for the Wii.<br /><br />Of course, <em>RE5 </em>still has a long way to go in development, so there maybe something else under the title's zombified sleeves that will end up surprising us.<br /><br />[Thanks, Adam!]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/07/28/resident-evil-4-vs-resident-evil-5/">Resident Evil 4 vs. Resident Evil 5</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Mon, 28 Jul 2008 19:30:00 EST. What's with all the rumors these days? A rumor that began only hours ago has now been officially shot down by Capcom. Specifically, the rumor stated that <em>Resident Evil 4</em> was set to be remade <em>again</em>, this time for the Xbox 360 and PS3. It began with a forum post showcasing some <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/03/25/re4-coming-to-360-or-april-fools-photoshop/">blurry shots</a> of would be box art for the title. Capcom has officially <a href="http://www.capcom.com/BBS/showpost.php?p=500584&amp;postcount=3">squashed</a> the rumor, with Vice President Christian Svennson saying quite plainly that the company has "no plans" to bring <em>Resident Evil 4</em> to either 360 or PS3 "at this time."<br /><br />Looks like 360 gamers will just have to settle with a <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/03/26/new-off-screen-resident-evil-5-footage/"><em>new</em> <em>Resident Evil</em> game</a> instead.<br /><br />[Via <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/03/26/capcom-debunks-rumors-of-re4-on-ps3-360/">Joystiq</a>]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/03/26/re4-for-360-rumor-shot-down-by-capcom/">RE4 for 360 rumor shot down by Capcom</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 26 Mar 2008 14:00:00 EST. <em>Resident Evil</em> fansite The Horror is Alive caused a minor stir yesterday by posting a <a href="http://the-horror.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&amp;threadid=1683">phonecam pic of the purported box art</a> for a "Classic Edition" remake of <em>Resident Evil 4</em> for the PS3 and Xbox 360. The rumor got picked up by <a href="http://palgn.com.au/article.php?id=10884&amp;sid=2846f4f25ff4ad882d12262b7697b9be&amp;title=RUMOUR%3A+Resident+Evil+4%3A+Classic+Edition+on+the+way%3F">a</a> <a href="http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showthread.php?t=263395">variety</a> <a href="http://www.n4g.com/News-127725.aspx">of</a> <a href="http://www.gemaga.com/2008/03/26/resident-evil-4-classic-edition-coming-to-xbox-360-playstation-3">gaming</a> <a href="http://www.simplygaming.info/2008/03/26/resident-evil-4-classic-edition-for-xbox-360-and-ps3/">sites</a> -- including a <a href="http://www.xbox360fanboy.com/2008/03/25/re4-coming-to-360-or-april-fools-photoshop/">somewhat incredulous Xbox 360 Fanboy</a> -- and THIA followed it up today with supposed <a href="http://the-horror.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&amp;threadid=1687">hi-res shots of the box art</a>, adding further fuel to the fire.<br /><br />Enter Capcom with a rumor-dousing fire blanket. Writing on Capcom's community forums, Vice President Christian Svennson <a href="http://www.capcom.com/BBS/showpost.php?p=500584&amp;postcount=3">said outright</a> that there are "no plans for <em>RE4</em> on 360 or PS3 at this time." Of course, that's exactly what he<em> would</em> say if there was a super-secret remake that Capcom just wasn't ready to announce yet. We'll take him at his word though, mostly because we hope the company is focusing its resources on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/RE5"><em>Resident Evil 5</em></a> at this point. Besides, how many more remakes of a three-year-old game do we need exactly?<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/03/26/capcom-debunks-rumors-of-re4-on-ps3-360/">Capcom debunks rumors of RE4 on PS3, 360</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 26 Mar 2008 13:00:00 EST. A poster at <a href="http://www.the-horror.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1683">The Horror is Alive forums</a> posted an alleged camera picture of in-progress boxart for a 360 (and PS3) port of <em>Resident Evil 4</em> with the sub title of <em>Classic Edition.</em> The poster claims to have received the shot from a friend who works in the San Francisco Capcom offices, and who further claims that the game will prominently feature <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/HUNK_Resident_Evil">Hunk</a>, who could be getting his own scenario. The poster promises to try and update with captures, so if it happens we'll let you know.<br /><br />Now the idea of Capcom taking an older game and updating and re-releasing it isn't at all strange, especially considering their <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/lost-planet-colonies">recent history</a>. That fact in and of itself gives this one a bit of credence, but it's still just a rumor. Even the guys in the forum where this appeared were skeptical, thinking it might be an April Fools Photoshop joke. We think this is a plausible Capcom move though, and that the above has some minor potential to be the real boxart. Though only time will really tell about the ultimate truth on this one, this could be great if Capcom follows the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/lost-planet-colonies"><em>Lost Planet: Colonies</em></a> model and releases this with more content and at a price tag of 29.99. But don't hold your breath for it.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/03/25/re4-coming-to-360-or-april-fools-photoshop/">RE4 coming to 360, or April Fools Photoshop?</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 25 Mar 2008 23:00:00 EST. Did you know that there are currently 17 M-rated games on the Wii? Some of them, like <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/01/03/konami-takes-cue-from-sega-brings-arcade-shooter-to-wii/"><em>Target Terror</em></a>, aren't out just yet, and some, like <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/07/18/escape-from-bug-island-evades-price-gouging/"><em>Escape from Bug Island</em></a>, have already been largely forgotten to history. OMG Nintendo has an interesting look at six of the most important M-rated titles on the system, from <em>No More Heroes</em> to games that aren't <em><a href="http://nintendowiifanboy.com/tag/no-more-heroes">No More Heroes</a>. </em>They also delve into some violent "classics" like <em>Time Killers.</em><br /><br />Each game gets a short description and a score, but what's interesting to us is that there's a description of the <em>gore</em> content of each game. It reminds us of the bizarre fixation we as gamers (and the game developers) have with violence. If something is "made for adults," we all immediately know why, and are usually right: it's bloody.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/03/13/the-wiis-m-rated-offerings-rounded-up/">The Wii's M-rated offerings rounded up</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 13 Mar 2008 12:45:00 EST. <br /><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/promotionalconsideration">Promotional Consideration</a> is a weekly feature about the Nintendo DS advertisements you usually flip past, change the channel on, or just tune out.<br /><br />Many of the commercials for Nintendo-published DS titles in Japan or Korea follow the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/08/14/ffcc-ring-of-fates-media-constipated-face/">same</a> <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/06/14/more-phantom-hourglass-commercials-for-japan-nothing-for-us/">formula</a> -- alternating shots between in-game clips and reactions from the player, typically a celebrity. It's an effective approach, as game and system sales can attest, but what happens when a bored video editor decides to mess with the recipe, replacing the cheerful game scenes from a Korean <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/animalcrossing">Animal Crossing</a></em> ad with much more violent footage? Before the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/01/29/super-spoiler-bros-brawl-major-leaked-roster-update-videos-a/">deluge of <em>Super Smash Bros. Brawl</em> information</a> following the Japanese release, we were still all hoping to see Mega Man, Leon Kennedy, or maybe even Ryu appear in the game's sizable roster. Now that the dust has cleared, with no Capcom characters in sight, the only question left to ask is: why?<br /><br />Kotaku has <a href="http://kotaku.com/351377/why-is-there-no-capcom-in-super-smash-bros-brawl">reportedly spoken</a> with insider sources at Nintendo, who claim that the lost exclusivity of <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/residentevil4"><em>Resident Evil 4</em></a> caused Nintendo to reconsider the inclusion of <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/capcom">Capcom</a> characters in <em>Brawl</em>. <em>RE4</em> was originally meant to be exclusive to the Gamecube, but concerns over sales led Capcom to <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2004/11/02/resident-evil-4-bound-for-ps2/">release the title on PS2</a>, and <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2006/01/27/resident-evil-4-heading-to-pc/">later on PC</a>, with additional content.<br /><br />While Nintendo has the right to be peeved about the broken exclusivity agreement, the addition of Capcom's franchises to the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/ssbb"><em>Brawl</em></a> lineup could have only benefited Nintendo, and created more hype for the title (if that's even possible). While we're a bit unsure whether to buy into this rumor, if true then we can only hope that Capcom and Nintendo kiss and make up in time to offer some new characters as downloadable content (hey, we can dream, can't we?).<br /><br /><strong>Update:</strong> Slight factual error corrected; Capcom announced the PS2 version prior to the release of the Gamecube version. They've dubbed themselves Four48, and have done quite a few marathon gaming sessions in order to raise money for charity.<br /><br />Now they're at it again, it seems, but this time, they're not just racing against the clock. The Four48 crew is competing against seven other teams this weekend to see who will be the first to complete <em>Resident Evil 4: Wii Edition</em>. The only thing at stake, besides gamer pride, of course, is a copy of <span style="font-style: italic;">No More Heroes</span> that will go to the winning team. <br /><br />They'll be taking donations as per usual, which will be given to Child's Play. They're also webcasting the event, so if you find yourself with little to do this weekend, it might be worth checking out.<br /><br />[Via <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/02/02/four48-crew-takes-on-the-world-in-resident-evil-4-race/">Joystiq</a>]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/02/02/four48-faces-resident-evil-challenge/">Four48 faces Resident Evil challenge</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Sat, 02 Feb 2008 16:00:00 EST.
