You could rely on your friends, game critics or helpful GameStop sales associates to tell you which games are scary, but that's so two-thousand-and-late. We're sticking with science, thanks to this helpful feature from <a href="http://www.gamasutra.com/view/feature/6480/scary_game_findings_a_study_of_.php">Gamasutra</a>, which used player feedback and biometric data to rate not only the most frightening games, but their most horrifying moments. [<strong>Update</strong>: The study itself was conducted by <a href="http://www.verticalslice.co.uk/">Vertical Slice</a>, so if you're looking for dream jobs in the research field, that's where we'd start.)<br />
<br />
A victor was picked, but some of the study's other conclusions were more interesting. For instance: The threat of combat was typically scarier than combat itself. Also, gore, while provocative, wasn't, particularly frightening. The game that understood those concepts the best? Well, that would be <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/dead-space-2"><em>Dead Space 2</em></a>, which took the brass ring over <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/condemned"><em>Condemned</em></a>, <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/alan-wake"><em>Alan Wake</em></a> and <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/resident-evil-5"><em>Resident Evil 5</em></a>.<br />
<br />
Presumably, <em>Sherlock Holmes: Nemesis</em> was <a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=13YlEPwOfmk">not in the running</a>.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/09/08/science-picks-dead-space-2-as-360s-scariest-game/">Science picks Dead Space 2 as 360's scariest game</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 08 Sep 2011 19:56:00 EST. Capcom and Sony Pictures are subjecting victims to another CG <em>Resident Evil</em> movie: <em>Damnation</em>. The animated feature will be released in Japan in 2012 using that 3D tech the corporations are raving about. <br />
<br />
According to <a href="http://www.capcom.co.jp/ir/english/news/html/e100914.html">Capcom</a>, the first <em>Resident Evil</em> CG film, <em>Degeneration</em>, has shipped over 1.6 million copies for home viewing and its limited "2-week / 3-screen theatrical release in Japan" grossed &yen;40 million yen ($480K).<br />
<br />
Despite <em>Resident Evil's</em> celluloid excursions being <a href="http://www.metacritic.com/search/movie/resident+evil/results">reviled by critics</a>, the series has made plenty of bank.<em> Resident Evil: Afterlife 3D</em> is <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/09/13/resident-evil-afterlife-nets-first-place-at-the-box-office/">currently the top movie at the box office</a>.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/09/14/resident-evil-damnation-3d-cg-movie-sequel-announced/">Resident Evil: Damnation 3D CG movie sequel announced</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 14 Sep 2010 09:31:00 EST. Seemingly at peace with the fact that it may never escape the <em>"<a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/resident-evil-5">Resident Evil 5</a> </em>is racist" flap the game <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/02/24/resident-evil-5-producer-there-is-no-racial-element-to-it-at-a/ ">stirred up last year</a>, Capcom USA is speaking openly about measures it is taking to ensure it can offer a non-Japanese perspective on future titles. Talking with <a href="http://gamasutra.com/view/news/30059/Capcom_Were_Never_Going_To_Have_Another_RE5_Controversy.php">Gamasutra</a>, the senior PR rep for the publisher's North American operation, Melody Pfeiffer, confirmed that, "Since the RE5 controversy, we have become much more aware of how important it is that we are part of the asset creation process early on so that we are able to have a say in the end product." (Implying that it <em>didn't</em> before.)<br />
<br />
"We are also designing a lot of our own assets from this side of the pond, so that we are able to make strategic pieces of content that make sense for our market," Pfeiffer added, saying, "We are working really closely with our producers in Japan to construct these materials for the West and they are open more then ever to hearing our thoughts and ideas for assets."<br />
<br />
Translated: Capcom USA hopes it won't be blindsided again, and has gotten assurances from the home office that it'll be listened to the next time it says, "Uh, no, that <em>ain't </em>gonna fly <em>anywhere</em>." Listened to, yes, but <em>heard</em>? Only the lack of another "<em>RE5 </em>controversy" can serve as proof.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/08/24/capcom-usa-will-be-proactive-in-preventing-another-re5-controve/">Capcom USA will be proactive in preventing another 'RE5 controversy'</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 24 Aug 2010 19:30:00 EST. Some people would have you believe that the printed word is on the way out, but it turns out the medium is undead after all. No, you're not i-Majini-ng things, there really is <a href="http://www.udonentertainment.com/blog/?p=1655">a <em>Resident Evil 5</em> art book</a>, and it's shambling to shelves this July. Entitled <em>The Art of Resident Evil 5</em>, the book is being released by <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/Udon/">Udon</a> and contains loads of content from the game, including "3D models, character designs, environments, storyboards, and promotional art." It also includes "never before seen concept art and unused designs," creator commentary and interviews with the development staff.<br />
<br />
You can pre-order the 204 page book from <a href="http://www.amazon.com/dp/1926778049?tag=udoent-20&amp;camp=14573&amp;creative=327641&amp;linkCode=as1&amp;creativeASIN=1926778049&amp;adid=18W2Q57E09Q579T9S1ZM&amp;">Amazon</a>, where it's currently selling for $26.39 (34 percent off the usual $39.99 price tag).<br />

Buy them all! And buy both DLC episodes while you're at it. Capcom just announced that it's bundling the two costume packs, as well as both the "<a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/02/17/re5-lost-in-nightmares-dlc-priced-5-dollars-costume-pack-is-2/">Lost in Nightmares</a>" and "<a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/03/03/joyswag-limited-edition-resident-evil-5-chibi-majini-shirt-an/">Desperate Escape</a>" episodes together as a single "Untold Stories Bundle."<br />

It'll be available today on Xbox Live for 960<img border="0" alt="" src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.xbox360fanboy.com/media/2007/11/microsoftpointslogosmall.gif" /> ($12) and tomorrow on PlayStation Network for $12.50. Individually, all that content would add up to $14, and would require up to four tedious menu navigations. Either way, it's still cheaper than buying the <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/11/19/resident-evil-5-gold-edition-hits-retail-in-march-dlc-in-febru/">Gold Edition</a></em> disc.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/03/10/resident-evil-5-dlc-available-at-a-discount-in-untold-stories-b/">Resident Evil 5 DLC available at a discount in 'Untold Stories Bundle'</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 10 Mar 2010 13:00:00 EST. </a></div>
There's a neat throwback to the first time Jill Valentine and Chris Redfield went stomping around a creepy old mansion in "<a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/lost-in-nightmares">Lost in Nightmares</a>," the new DLC episode for <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/resident-evil-5"><em>Resident Evil 5</em></a>. By going to the front door of the mansion and attempting to open it a few times (remember what happened <a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DW3txAxaD2A">the first time you tried that</a>?), you'll eventually get a "?" message and the camera will shift to <em>Resident Evil's</em> classic, isolated point of view.<br />
<br />
More than anything, the Easter egg is a nostalgic reminder of the olden days of survival horror, before Chris Redfield had to <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/03/11/pinpoint-exactly-when-resident-evils-chris-redfield-started-tak/">juice up</a> just to get out of bed in the morning.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/02/19/resident-evil-5-lost-in-nightmares-dlc-easter-egg/">RE5 'Lost in Nightmares' Easter egg: the classic cam</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Fri, 19 Feb 2010 14:30:00 EST. And also a bit dressed in spiky shoulder pads. Instead of the two costumes advertised, the "Costume Pack 1" actually contains the "Fairy Tale" and "Warrior" outfits that were <em>supposed</em> to comprise the "Costume Pack 2" DLC. Surprise!<br />
<br />
"This issue is known by Capcom," the publisher <a href="http:// http://www.capcom-unity.com/mattd/blog/2010/02/17/resident_evil_5:_costume_pack_1_issue">assures</a> the inappropriately attired gamers affected by the issue, "and we are currently working with Microsoft for a solution." As for tomorrow's PS3 release of the costume pack, Capcom told Joystiq that it was "still verifying" which costumes will be included.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/02/17/resident-evil-5-costume-pack-suffers-a-wardrobe-malfunction/">Resident Evil 5 costume pack suffers a wardrobe malfunction</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 17 Feb 2010 17:50:00 EST. As expected, the first of two <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/11/19/resident-evil-5-gold-edition-hits-retail-in-march-dlc-in-febru/"><em>Resident Evil 5 </em>expansion episodes</a>, "Lost in Nightmares," has been released today on Xbox Live (tomorrow on PSN) for the <em>unterrifying</em> price of 400<img alt="" src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.xbox360fanboy.com/media/2007/11/microsoftpointslogosmall.gif" /> ($5). An additional <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/12/17/resident-evil-5-desperate-escape-episode-detailed/#continued">Costume Pack</a>, also the first of two, has hit the Marketplace as well, for 180<img alt="" src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.xbox360fanboy.com/media/2007/11/microsoftpointslogosmall.gif" /> ($2), and joins the <a href="http://xbox.joystiq.com/2010/02/16/free-resident-evil-5-dlc-hits-xbox-live-marketplace/">free Extra Figures DLC</a> that appeared on Monday.<br />
<br />
Capcom has also confirmed that the second episode, "<a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/desperate-escape/">Desperate Escape</a>," previously dated for March 3 and 4 on XBLM and PSN, respectively, will also launch at the 400<img alt="" src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.xbox360fanboy.com/media/2007/11/microsoftpointslogosmall.gif" /> / $4.99 price point and be joined by Costume Pack 2 (180<img alt="" src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.xbox360fanboy.com/media/2007/11/microsoftpointslogosmall.gif" /> / $1.99).<br />
<br />
Finally, on March 9, <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/resident-evil-5-gold-edition/">Resident Evil 5: Gold Edition</a></em> will hit retail, combining all of the aforementioned DLC (on the PS3 disc; through vouchers in Xbox 360 copies) with the original game for $50; a not-so discounted bundle for anyone who hasn't picked up the original <em>RE5</em> (now $30), which was released <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/03/12/joystiq-review-resident-evil-5/">last March</a>. So, if you're not too interested in piloting air ships and wranglin' chocobos <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/01/12/video-game-release-date-calendar-q1-q2-2010/#mar">that week</a>, Chris and Sheva have got your back. Will you have theirs? Hmm?<br />

As promised, both <em>Resident Evil 5</em> and <a href="http://joystiq.com/tag/beautiful-katamari"><em>Beautiful Katamari</em></a> are <a href="http://majornelson.com/archive/2010/02/16/games-on-demand-resident-evil-5-and-beautiful-katamari.aspx">now available via Xbox Live Games on Demand</a>. <em>Resident Evil 5</em> is available everywhere <em>except</em> Korea, while <em>Beautiful Katamari</em> is available everywhere <em>except</em> India. The North American price for <em>Resident Evil 5</em> is $29.99, with <em>Beautiful Katamari</em> going for $19.99. As usual, prices vary by region, so be sure to check your local details before plunking down the e-money.<br />
<br />
It's worth pointing out that this week also marks the release of the <a href="http://joystiq.com/tag/resident-evil-5-gold-edition"><em>Resident Evil 5: Gold Edition</em> DLC</a>. In other words, you could actually own the entirety of the Gold Edition in a purely digital format (you know, if that's <em>your thing</em>). Strangely absent from Marketplace are the promised <em>Resident Evil</em> Avatar items, though we imagine those will be coming along shortly. Unless they're zombie outfits, in which case it may be a while before they shamble online.<br />

Capcom isn't exactly known for its <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/04/10/capcom-insists-re5-versus-wasnt-on-the-disc/">generous</a> support of DLC. But with the impending release of the very first <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/11/20/re5-lost-in-nightmares-teaser-goes-back-to-the-mansion/"><em>Resident Evil 5: Gold Edition</em></a> DLC this week, Capcom is giving everyone a free surprise on the Xbox Live Marketplace. Available for download now, the "Extra Figures" pack will add figures like Barry and Rebecca to your in-game statue collection ... "all for the affordable price of a free download!"<br />
<br />
We've learned from plenty of schoolyard beatings that the only thing worse than being caught playing with action figures ... is being caught playing with action figures that aren't even real. We'll be doing this discreetly.<br />

Sadly, our unbearably nerdy request for the more classic versions of these two characters was not honored, as both seem to be updates of their GameCube incarnations: Barry from <em>REmake</em> and Rebecca from <em>Resident Evil Zero</em>. <br />

The latest issue of Famitsu reveals (via <a href="http://xbox360.ign.com/articles/106/1067865p1.html">IGN</a>) that two of the series' classic characters are coming to <em>Mercenaries Reunion</em> in <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/resident-evil-5-alternative-edition"><em>Resident Evil 5: Alternative Edition</em></a>: Barry Burton and Rebecca Chambers. Both characters made their first appearance in the original <em>Resident Evil </em>game, but haven't exactly been strangers to the series ever since. <br />
<br />
Rebecca co-starred in <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/resident-evil-zero"><em>Resident Evil Zero</em></a>, while Barry enjoyed an extended role in <em>REmake</em> and was Leon's sidekick in <em>Resident Evil Gaiden</em>, the Game Boy Color game. Barry also played a pivotal role in <em>Resident Evil 3: Nemesis</em>.<br />
<br />
Frankly, we're all for bringing these two back, but only if we get <a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qri7zvToOj4&amp;NR=1">oddly apologetic Rebecca</a> and <a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fVvQdRvt89M">soft-spoken Barry</a>.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/02/09/famitsu-rebecca-chambers-and-barry-burton-in-re5-mercenaries-r/">Famitsu: Rebecca Chambers and Barry Burton in RE5: Mercenaries Reunion</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 09 Feb 2010 20:00:00 EST. Even in motion (perhaps <em>especially</em> in motion), it all seems just a tad silly. There's something incongruous about a woman in an evening gown and heels bringing the pain to swarms of zombies. She certainly never showed off her zombie-slaying abilities in the game proper. Still, that's probably beside the point.<br />
<br />
Capcom also released a video of Josh Stone in the Mercenaries Reunion mode. He seems a little more at home, cheesy catchphrases included. See him in action after the break. <em>Resident Evil 5: Gold Edition</em> DLC lands on PSN and XBLM <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/11/19/resident-evil-5-gold-edition-hits-retail-in-march-dlc-in-febru/">in February</a>, with a retail release set for March.<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/01/28/video-excella-and-josh-in-resident-evil-5-gold-edition/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Video: Excella and Josh in Resident Evil 5: Gold Edition</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/01/28/video-excella-and-josh-in-resident-evil-5-gold-edition/">Video: Excella and Josh in Resident Evil 5: Gold Edition</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 28 Jan 2010 17:21:00 EST. Of all the characters we can imagine playing in the new Mercenaries Reunion mode in the upcoming <a href="http://joystiq.com/tag/resident-evil-5-gold-edition"><em>Resident Evil 5: Gold Edition</em></a>, Excella Gionne is probably at the bottom of the list. Well,<span style="font-style: italic;"> </span>Ashley -- Leon's little tag-along in <em>Resident Evil 4</em> -- might rank lower. While the press release assures us that Excella's "mercilessness contrasts with her beauty" and that she has a "strong fighting instinct backed up by superior martial art skills," it seems just a <em>little</em> suspect. She's a CEO, not a warrior. Can you imagine <a href="http://joystiq.com/tag/steve-ballmer">Steve Ballmer</a> and <a href="http://joystiq.com/tag/howard-stringer">Howard Stringer</a> teaming up to fight their way through the zombie apocalypse?<br />
<br />
Actually, that sounds completely awesome. Why don't you check out some screens of Excella -- and some new screens of the "<a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/12/17/resident-evil-5-desperate-escape-episode-detailed/">Desperate Escape</a>" episode -- while <a href="http://joystiq.com/tag/joystiq-publishing">Joystiq Publishing</a> works up a development document for <em>Ball and String in Zombie Town</em>. <br />
<br />

"<a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/11/20/re5-lost-in-nightmares-teaser-goes-back-to-the-mansion/">Lost in Nightmares</a>" takes place before the events of <em>Resident Evil 5</em> and includes a mansion inspired by the setting of the very first <em>RE</em> game. "<a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/12/17/resident-evil-5-desperate-escape-episode-detailed/">Desperate Escape</a>" takes place during the end of <em>Resident Evil 5</em>, as Jill and Josh race to save Chris and Sheva from the endgame's <em>exploding volcano</em>.<br />
<br />
With Jill serving as the "main character" for the additional content, the <em>Gold Edition</em> expansion looks like a genuine sequel, a la <em>Resident Evil 3: Nemesis</em>. Most importantly, we're glad to see Jill's masterful unlocking skills put to good use in this trailer. The first batch of <em>RE5</em> DLC will be available on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/11/19/resident-evil-5-gold-edition-hits-retail-in-march-dlc-in-febru/">February 17</a>.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/01/15/resident-evil-5-gold-edition-looks-like-a-sequel-in-new-trailer/">Resident Evil 5: Gold Edition looks like a sequel in new trailer</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Fri, 15 Jan 2010 10:45:00 EST. I mocked this "re-imagining" of <em>Silent Hill</em> when it was first announced. I thought Harry Mason had become an older, life-hewn Harry <em>Potter</em> and considered the town's frosty makeover as nothing short of sacrilege. But an encounter with the game at E3 2009 (and with candid producer <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/06/24/interview-silent-hill-shattered-memories-producer-tomm-hulett/">Tomm Hulett</a>) quickly changed my mind. While the game departs significantly from the franchise's known lore, it retains and streamlines much of what made <em>Silent Hill</em> stand out against games like <em>Resident Evil</em>. Encased in the game's frigid atmosphere, you'll experience a sense of bewilderment that, if you've been playing these games for a long time, you will not have felt in years. Indeed, the best surprises prey on those of us who think we know everything about <em>Silent Hill</em>.<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/01/01/best-of-the-rest-ludwigs-picks-of-2009/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Best of the Rest: Ludwig's Picks of 2009</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/01/01/best-of-the-rest-ludwigs-picks-of-2009/">Best of the Rest: Ludwig's Picks of 2009</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Fri, 01 Jan 2010 19:15:00 EST. <a href="http://joystiq.com/tag/valkyria-chronicles"><em><strong>Valkyria Chronicles</strong></em></a><br />
"BUT THAT GAME WAS 2008!!11one!1!" Well, yes, in the strictest sense. Sega's strategy role-playing game, an epic tale chronicling the hardships and victories of Gallian militia Squad 7, was sent out to die by the publisher when it released in November 2008. However, word-of-mouth, critical praise and some discounted pricing helped the saga find a place in <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/06/09/valkyria-chronicles-sales-increased-400-in-april/">many people's lives (and hearts)</a> by mid-2009. <br />
<br />
One of the most endearing mechanics implemented in the game was giving all the playable members of Squad 7 bonuses (or flaws) based on their neuroses, relationships and desires. Also, every character had a different personality that shined during their turn through little quips and order recognition comments. It gave the entire cast more depth of character, even as the player only saw a handful of the troops during cutscenes. Despite the requisite Japanese RPG flair and melodrama, there was a simple beauty and charm in the storytelling, while the gameplay introduced a great basis for iteration. <em>Valkyria Chronicles</em> is a series that, with love and attention, could become so much more. I look forward to returning to Gallia and hope future installments recognize that the delightful characters are as important to the series as the strategic gameplay.<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/01/01/best-of-the-rest-alexanders-picks-of-2009/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Best of the Rest: Alexander's Picks of 2009</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/01/01/best-of-the-rest-alexanders-picks-of-2009/">Best of the Rest: Alexander's Picks of 2009</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Fri, 01 Jan 2010 18:00:00 EST. <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/resident-evil-5"><em><strong>Resident Evil 5</strong></em></a><br />
I've long been a fan of the <em>Resident Evil </em>series, and while the campaign here has problems and should <em>never</em> be played solo, the Mercenaries mode is what kept me coming back. Those action-packed levels spent trying to survive while running low on ammo and health were some of my most chaotic, yet highly enjoyable, experiences of 2009.<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/01/01/best-of-the-rest-daves-picks-of-2009/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Best of the Rest: Dave's Picks of 2009</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/01/01/best-of-the-rest-daves-picks-of-2009/">Best of the Rest: Dave's Picks of 2009</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Fri, 01 Jan 2010 17:15:00 EST. What started out as tepid fascination in <em>DJ Hero</em> quickly turned into a deep, passionate love. I initially thought it was just another rhythm game knock-off with an obtuse peripheral and a too-high price point. However, as my turntabling improved, my fondness for the game multiplied. Based on the game's lackluster sales, I'm guessing most people shared my outright hesitance -- but once you invest a bit of time and patience into <em>DJ Hero</em>, I guarantee you'll get hooked. (And <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/10/06/dj-heros-full-track-list-revealed/#continued">that soundtrack</a>! Oh, man, that soundtrack.)<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/01/01/best-of-the-rest-griffins-picks-of-2009/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Best of the Rest: Griffin's Picks of 2009</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/01/01/best-of-the-rest-griffins-picks-of-2009/">Best of the Rest: Griffin's Picks of 2009</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Fri, 01 Jan 2010 15:00:00 EST. Yesterday, we learned about <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/12/16/second-resident-evil-5-episode-has-playable-jill-and-josh/">the cast swap</a> that would take place in <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/resident-evil-5-alternative-edition"><em>Resident Evil 5 Alternative Edition</em>'s</a> second downloadable episode, <em>Desperate Escape</em>. However, we had no context in which to put Jill Valentine and Josh Stone in <em>cahoots</em>, nor did we know what they'd be doing while <em>cahooted</em>. Now, thanks to an announcement from Capcom, we know: They'll be escaping. <em>Desperately</em>.<br />
<br />
We'll try to share these details without dropping any spoilers: Josh encounters Jill, who has collapsed after <em>that one fight</em>. Together, they have to escape from the Tricell facility, pushing through wave after wave of faux-zombies in the middle of the night. They'll need to do so quickly, as they need to fulfill their important, life-saving duties to Chris and Sheva, who are simultaneously locked in battle with <em>that one guy</em>.<br />
<br />
Additionally, Capcom has released some screens of the new episode, which we've posted in the gallery below. Also, the developer revealed two new costumes for Chris and Sheva in the game's Mercenaries Reunion mode: Chris gets "<a href="http://www.viddler.com/explore/Joystiq/videos/2545/">Heavy Metal</a>" duds, while Sheva gets somewhat classier "<a href="http://www.viddler.com/explore/Joystiq/videos/2546/">Business</a>" attire. Check them out in the videos after the jump!<br />

Are you bored with the unspoken, yet<span style="font-style: italic;"> powerful</span> sexual tension between <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/resident-evil-5"><em>Resident Evil 5</em></a>'s protagonists, Chris and Sheva? Yeah, we are too -- that's why we're so excited about these scans from the latest issue of Famitsu (as <a href="http://www.siliconera.com/2009/12/15/second-resident-evil-5-alternative-edition-episode-revealed/">uncovered by Siliconera</a>), which reveal that the second chapter in the game's <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/resident-evil-5-alternative-edition"><em>Alternative Edition</em> DLC</a>, titled <em>Desperate Escape</em>, will let you play as Jill Valentine and Josh Stone. In case you didn't recognize that last name, Josh Stone is actually a pretty popular <a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4DwcPqjCW3Y">British female soul singer</a>. Seems like a weird choice, but <em>what-evs</em>.<br />
<br />
Okay, Josh Stone is actually the BSAA member who helps out Chris and Sheva throughout the game -- mostly through the deus ex machina helicopter rescues for which the series is well-known. But wait -- if you're <em>playing</em> as Josh Stone, who's going to come rescue you at the end of the game in a helicopter? This could be bad, folks.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/12/16/second-resident-evil-5-episode-has-playable-jill-and-josh/">Second Resident Evil 5 episode has playable Jill and Josh</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 16 Dec 2009 11:25:00 EST. Sheva's new outfit, nicknamed "<a href="http://www.viddler.com/explore/Joystiq/videos/2500/">Fairy Tale,</a>" resembles Little Red Riding Hood's garments, as reimagined by someone involved in the adult film industry. Chris's new outfit, nicknamed "<a href="http://www.viddler.com/explore/Joystiq/videos/2499/">Warrior,</a>" simply turns him into a person-shaped collection of fists.<br />
<br />
Sheva's duds can be seen in the video above, while Chris's can be found just after the jump. Proceed with caution if you elect to view the latter -- there's a very <em>real</em> possibility that your eyeballs could get punched.<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/12/11/sheva-and-chris-getting-new-duds-in-resident-evil-5-dlc/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Sheva and Chris getting new duds in Resident Evil 5 DLC</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/12/11/sheva-and-chris-getting-new-duds-in-resident-evil-5-dlc/">Sheva and Chris getting new duds in Resident Evil 5 DLC</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Fri, 11 Dec 2009 17:45:00 EST. Capcom has updated its official Japanese <a href="http://www.capcom.co.jp/bio5/ae/lost_creature.html"><em>Resident Evil 5</em> site</a>, revealing the new enemy featured in the upcoming <em>Gold Edition</em> <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/11/19/resident-evil-5-gold-edition-hits-retail-in-march-dlc-in-febru/">retail and (assorted) DLC release</a> of the game. The new nemesis is an unnamed and extremely grotesque behemoth who carries a large <em>key-like</em> anchor, <span>stalking the underground of Spencer's Mansion in the content's <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/resident-evil-5-gold-edition/">Lost in Nightmares</a></em> episode. According to an English translation of the character card, players can hunt down the beast to obtain heavy weapons such as a sickle. If the design proves one thing, it's that <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/Capcom/">Capcom</a> continues to create characters with terrible skin afflictions. Someone get this guy an <em>ointment</em>.<br /><br />[Via <a href="http://blogsmith.aol.com/content/posts/edit/19255598/">Andriasang</a>]<br /></span><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/11/26/resident-evil-5-gold-editions-new-enemy-is-all-kinds-of-creepy/">Resident Evil 5: Gold Edition's new enemy is all kinds of creepy</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 26 Nov 2009 22:00:00 EST. Chris Redfield and his personal gun show may complain that an entire mansion is being run on the archaic device in this teaser for upcoming <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/resident-evil-5"><em>Resident Evil 5</em></a> DLC episode, <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/11/19/resident-evil-5-gold-edition-hits-retail-in-march-dlc-in-febru/">Lost in Nightmares</a></em>, but that's because the dude doesn't respect the crank's noble history. We're just glad one of the two survivalists has enough <em>class</em> to acknowledge the significance of history's great gate opener.<br />

It looks like Capcom USA was tired of us making fun of the proposed name for the upcoming <em>Resident Evil 5</em> expansion, "<a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/resident-evil-5-alternative-edition/"><em>Alternative Edition</em></a>." The division has chosen a <em>bling-ier</em> title for its stateside release: <em>Resident Evil 5: Gold Edition</em>. <em>Gold Edition</em> will be released as a retail box copy on March 9 for $49.99 as a single Blu-ray disc, including the original game and add-on content, on PS3 and as a DVD with download voucher for Xbox 360.<br />
<br />
If you already have <em>Resident Evil 5,</em> you'll be able to pick up the first DLC chapter earlier. "Lost in Nightmares" and a custom pack will be available for download on February 17 for Xbox 360 and February 18 for PS3, while the second, <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/11/18/resident-evil-5-alternative-edition-has-an-alternate-episode/">unnamed DLC episode</a> will be released March 3 (Xbox 360) and 4th (PS3) alongside a second costume pack. No mention has been made of a possible PC release.<br />
<br />
<strong>Update: </strong>Capcom passed along dates for the European release. The PAL DLC release dates are the same as those reported above. However, the <em>Gold Edition</em> retail release will be Friday, March 12.<br />

The upcoming <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/resident-evil-5-alternative-edition"><em>Alternative Edition</em> DLC</a> for <em>Resident Evil 5</em> is going to include much more than motion controller support for PS3 and the "<a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/10/01/the-resident-evil-alternative-edition-trailer/">Lost in Nightmares</a>" flashback episode. The latest issue of Japanese mag Famitsu (via <a href="http://www.andriasang.com/e/blog/2009/11/18/re5_alternative_detailed">Andriasang</a>) notes that Capcom has two additional surprises for players: new costumes and new characters for a revamped "Mercenaries Reunion" (seen above), as well as an extra, yet-to-be-revealed chapter.<br /><br />All this content will be released as four separate <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/11/09/resident-evil-5-alternative-edition-content-coming-as-dlc/">DLC packs</a>:<br />

These prices are only confirmed for Japan, but it's unlikely the US release will be too different. Remember when Capcom <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/10/05/capcom-asks-how-you-want-re5-alternative-editions-extra-conten/">conducted a poll asking how</a> we wanted to receive the additional content being offered in <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/resident-evil-5-alternative-edition"><em>Resident Evil 5: Alternative Edition</em></a> -- in a boxed version of the game or as a DLC expansion to the original? Turns out the questionnaire wasn't a pointless exercise. A majority of the participants answered that they'd rather receive the new features (including motion-control functionality) as a downloadable pack. After deliberating with the <em>RE5 </em>team in Osaka, <a href="http://www.capcom-unity.com/kramez/blog/2009/11/09/re5_alternative_edition_content_coming_to_n_america_and_europe">Capcom has announced that the new content</a> will come to the U.S., Europe and Australia as DLC for the core game.<br /> <br /> Considering <em>Alternative Edition</em> is going to Japan in a retail box, this move is fairly surprising. Perhaps even a little <em>upsetting</em>, if you've gone ahead and traded your copy of the game in towards the cost of <em>Horse Life Adventures</em>. In a story about the scarier games (it's almost Halloween, don'tchaknow?), <a href="http://www.reuters.com/article/technologyNews/idUSTRE59T0F020091030?pageNumber=2&amp;virtualBrandChannel=11604">Reuters</a> mentioned two things we thought would be good for this website we got going here. First, there's Capcom's <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/resident-evil-5"><em>Resident Evil 5</em></a>, which Reuters reports has managed to sell 1.94 million copies in the US, according to NPD Group figures.<br />
<br />
The second part of the Reuters story talks about EA and its spookier titles for 2009: <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/left-4-dead-2">Left 4 Dead 2</a> </em>and <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/dead-space-extraction"><em>Dead Space: Extraction</em></a>. While there isn't anything new on the former, in a discussion of the latter, Reuters revealed that <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/dead-space-2"><em>Dead Space 2</em></a> is apparently planned for a 2010 release, which would seem to confirm <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/09/30/dead-space-2-entering-production-in-next-few-months/">what we've heard</a> about the game so far.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/10/30/reuters-re5-sold-1-94m-in-us-dead-space-2-in-development-for-2/">Reuters: RE5 sold 1.94M in US; Dead Space 2 in development for 2010</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Fri, 30 Oct 2009 13:45:00 EST. As <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/10/09/microsoft-details-octobers-xbox-live-deal-of-the-week-specials/">promised</a>, this week's Xbox Live Deal of the Week is the <a href="http://marketplace.xbox.com/en-US/games/offers/0ccf0001-0000-4000-8000-0000434307d4?cid=SLink">Versus Mode DLC</a> for <em>Resident Evil 5</em>. The content has been discounted by forty percent, dropping from 400<img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.xbox360fanboy.com/media/2007/11/microsoftpointslogosmall.gif" alt="" /> ($5) to 240<img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.xbox360fanboy.com/media/2007/11/microsoftpointslogosmall.gif" alt="" /> ($3). We can't imagine there being <em>too</em> many fence-sitters out there waiting to buy this initially controversial DLC (which <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/04/10/joystiq-review-resident-evil-5-versus-mode-dlc/">we liked</a>).<br /> <br />Over in Japan, they're getting a different deal: <em>Golf: Tee It Up</em> for 400<img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.xbox360fanboy.com/media/2007/11/microsoftpointslogosmall.gif" alt="" /> ($5), fifty percent off the normal price. Remember when you could just call a game "Golf" and be done with it?<br /> <br /> [Via <a href="http://majornelson.com/archive/2009/10/19/deal-of-the-week-resident-evil-5-versus-mode.aspx">Major Nelson</a>]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/10/20/reminder-xbl-deal-of-the-week-is-re5-versus-mode/">Reminder: XBL Deal of the Week is RE5 Versus Mode</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 20 Oct 2009 11:50:00 EST. Over at <a href="http://www.capcom-unity.com/kramez/blog/2009/10/05/resident_evil_5_alternative_edition_how_do_you_want_the_new_content_tell_us">Capcom Unity</a>, they're polling individuals on what they would like to see in a localized version of the recently revealed <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/resident-evil-5-alternative-edition"><em>Resident Evil 5: Alternative Edition</em></a>. In Japan, the title is coming on a new disc to the retail space, but Capcom is still entertaining different delivery solutions for North America and Europe, namely digital distribution as DLC for the original game. Since Capcom's had success with <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/resident-evil-5,versus">the <em>Versus</em> add-on</a> and recent digital wares such as <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/super-street-fighter-ii-turbo-hd-remix"><em>SSF2THD</em></a> and <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/marvel-vs-capcom-2"><em>Marvel vs Capcom 2</em></a>, it's willing to go that route if the demand is high enough. So Capcom put up a poll and, if you want your voice heard, we suggest you <a href="http://www.capcom-unity.com/kramez/blog/2009/10/05/resident_evil_5_alternative_edition_how_do_you_want_the_new_content_tell_us">make with the clickings</a>.<br /><br />As for tangible, things-you-can-see-in-front-of-you-right-now news, we'd like to direct your attention to <a href="http://game.watch.impress.co.jp/docs/news/20091005_319708.html">GAME Watch</a>. When Jun Takeuchi surprised Tokyo Game Show attendees with a motion-controlled version of <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/resident-evil-5"><em>Resident Evil 5</em></a> (subtitled "Alternative Edition"), he also revealed some new included content, <a href="http://uk.ps3.ign.com/articles/102/1029349p1.html">reportedly</a> a flashback scene set in the Spencer Mansion <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/09/23/resident-evil-5-directors-cut-to-feature-jill/">featuring Jill Valentine</a>.<br /> <br /> According to an IGN translation of a Dengeki Online article, the new scene (and whatever else <em>Alternative Edition</em> includes) may not be constrained to Sony's platform. Dengeki says that the new content may come to 360, but in a "different format," possibly implying a DLC release on Xbox Live Marketplace.<br /> <br /> It's great news, but keep in mind: there will only be motion control-support on one platform.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/09/30/new-resident-evil-5-content-may-also-come-to-xbox-360/">New Resident Evil 5 content may also come to Xbox 360</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 30 Sep 2009 11:20:00 EST. Well, maybe <em>featuring</em> Jill is not quite accurate -- "it's gonna be, uh, at least, <em>somewhat</em> involving Jill Valentine," confirms voice of Jill, Patricia Ja Lee, fresh from recording new voice and perhaps mocap work for <em>Resident Evil 5: Director's Cut</em>. That's right: <em>Resident Evil 5: Director's Cut</em>. It seems that P.J. Lee has also inadvertently announced a new, more twisting, more turning version of <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/resident-evil-5/"><em>RE5</em></a> in the works.<br /><br />What else do we know? "It's some <em>good</em> scenes." Catch the full blab after the break.<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/09/23/resident-evil-5-directors-cut-to-feature-jill/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>'RE5: Director's Cut' to feature Jill, voice of Jill spills</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/09/23/resident-evil-5-directors-cut-to-feature-jill/">'RE5: Director's Cut' to feature Jill, voice of Jill spills</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 23 Sep 2009 19:01:00 EST. Now, before you go all click crazy, you should know that you'll find no nudity in this post, so you can just bury those <em>dirty</em>, <em>filthy </em>impulses back under your Judeo-Christian upbringing where <em>they belong</em>. However, a calendar made for fans by Karen Dyer (the voice and body of <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/resident-evil-5"><em>Resident Evil 5</em></a>'s Sheva) may be a touch more risque than your place of business is comfortable with. Don't say we didn't warn you.<br /><br />The calendar is free, comprised of PDFs and available <a href="http://www.karendyer.net/sheva_calendar.html">right here</a> ... or you can just wait to see it hanging from the wall of your local zombie mechanic.<br /><br />[Via <a href="http://www.escapistmagazine.com/news/view/93616-Resident-Evil-5-Actress-Does-Calendar-For-Fans">The Escapist</a>]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/08/04/resident-evils-sheva-goes-a-bit-nsfw-in-new-calendar/">Resident Evil's Sheva goes a bit NSFW in new calendar</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 04 Aug 2009 21:00:00 EST. It's going to be difficult to be completely spoiler-free for this one, so fair warning. During a panel at <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/sdcc-2009">Comic-Con</a>, <em>Resident Evil 5</em> producer Masachika Kawata was asked if Albert Wesker would return in a future <em>Resident Evil </em>title, considering <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/Resident-Evil-5/">Resident Evil 5</a></em> leaves you believing he's gone. According to <a href="http://www.siliconera.com/2009/07/24/look-albert-wesker-isnt-coming-back/">SIliconera</a>, Kawata says Wesker's days in <em>Resident Evil</em> are over.<br /> <br /> "Even if you want Albert Wesker to come back there is no chance of that happening," Kawata told the audience. Of course, Kawata forgets that Wesker will be seen in the upcoming <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/Resident-Evil-The-Darkside-Chronicles/">Resident Evil: The Darkside Chronicles</a></em>, which takes place in Raccoon City during <em>Resident Evil 2</em>'s storyline. As for Wesker going the way of the Dodo, we'll believe that when we see it. Or don't see him, we should say.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/07/25/producer-wesker-not-returning-yeah-right/">Producer: Wesker not returning to Resident Evil (yeah, right)</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Sat, 25 Jul 2009 13:00:00 EST. Finding it hard to get interested in <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/07/16/june-npd-prototype-rips-apart-the-sales-charts/">the June NPDs</a>? Perhaps a visual aide from the folks at Gamasutra will help boost your enthusiasm. They've compiled the sales figures from all of 2009's NPD charts to find the top five best-selling games of the year thus far on each of the three home consoles.<br /><br />The big winner so far on the PS3 is <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/killzone-2"><em>Killzone 2</em></a>, trailed closely by <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/resident-evil-5"><em>Resident Evil 5</em></a>. On the 360, <em>Resident Evil 5</em> is currently in the lead, followed by a surprising contender -- <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/ufc-2009-undisputed"><em>UFC 2009: Undisputed</em></a>. The Wii's current leader is -- who'd have thunk it? -- <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/wii-fit"><em>Wii Fit</em></a>, followed by <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/wii-play"><em>Wii Play</em></a>.
