Some games are available piecemeal, but the remainder must be acquired in special bundles - like <em>Resident Evil</em>, <em>Resident Evil 2</em> and <em>Resident Evil 3</em>, combined here for &euro;14.99 (&pound;11.99).<br /><br /><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/resident-evil-4"><em>Resident Evil 4</em></a> and <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/Resident-Evil-Code-Veronica-X"><em>Resident Evil: Code Veronica X</em></a> are also bundled together for &euro;19.99 (&pound;15.99), while several other games have been knocked down to &euro;14.99 (&pound;10.99) each: <em>Operation Raccoon City, </em>the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/resident-evil-5-gold-edition/">gold edition</a> of <em>Resident Evil 5</em> and <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/06/26/relive-the-undead-onslaught-today-in-resident-evil-chronicles-hd/"><em>Resident Evil: Chronicles HD Collection</em></a> - the HD Move-compatible port of both <em>Chronicles</em> games originally released on the Wii. Sorry, UK, <em>Chronicles HD</em> will cost you an extra quid, at &pound;10.99.<br /><br />The latest entry in the series, <em>Resident Evil 6</em>, is &euro;24.99 (&pound;19.99). Finally, a bundle that includes all of this is available for &euro;69.99 (&pound;59.99). No word on whether PlayStation Plus members will see additional discounts on these items, though we've contacted Sony for clarification.<br /><br /><span>Remember: the sale doesn't start until tomorrow, after the PlayStation Store update. Don't go accidentally buying any of this stuff now, because if there's one thing everyone knows about you, it's that you're totally not a chump at all. </span><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2013/03/13/resident-evil-series-on-sale-on-european-ps-store-this-week/">Resident Evil series on sale on European PS Store this week</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 13 Mar 2013 02:00:00 EST. Shuffling along at half-price are <em>Residents Evils 4-6</em> and <em>Operation Raccoon City, </em>taking <a href="http://marketplace.xbox.com/en-US/Product/Resident-Evil-4/66acd000-77fe-1000-9115-d8024343081c"><em>4</em></a> and <a href="http://marketplace.xbox.com/en-US/Product/RESIDENT-EVIL-5/66acd000-77fe-1000-9115-d802434307d4"><em>5</em></a> to to $9.99 and the <a href="http://marketplace.xbox.com/en-US/Product/RESIDENT-EVIL-6/66acd000-77fe-1000-9115-d80243430819">other</a> <a href="http://marketplace.xbox.com/en-US/Product/Resident-Evil-Operation-Raccoon-City/66acd000-77fe-1000-9115-d8024343081d">two</a> to $19.99. Savings-wise, the pick of the bunch is <em><a href="http://marketplace.xbox.com/en-us/Product/RESIDENT-EVIL-CODE-Veronica-X/66acd000-77fe-1000-9115-d80243430822">Code Veronica</a>, </em>with today's discount digesting 75 percent of its insides and only leaving behind a stump of $4.99.<br /><br />As ever - well, until March 4 - there's a <a href="http://marketplace.xbox.com/en-US/Promotion/ultimate-game-sale-0226-0305">groaning mass</a> of other Games on Demand at sale-severed prices, and one of those groaners is <em>Grid</em>. With the second Grid game <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2013/01/31/grid-2-slides-into-north-america-may-28-may-31-elsewhere/">nearing the finish line</a>, $4.99 is a decent price at which to dive into Codemasters' racer series. <p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2013/02/28/resident-evil-series-shambles-into-xbox-lives-ultimate-game-sal/">Resident Evil series shambles into Xbox Live's Ultimate Game Sale</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 28 Feb 2013 09:05:00 EST. Capcom attributed the success to launches of major games, the growing popularity of its social games in Japan, and its newly introduced <em>Resident Evil 5</em> slot machine. Sales were up 44 percent during the same period from last year.<br /><br />While both <em>Resident Evil 6</em> and <em>DmC: Devil May Cry</em> saw <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2013/02/04/dmc-devil-may-cry-shipped-1-million-in-january-forecasts-slash/">significant reductions</a> to their end-of-fiscal-year projections, Capcom is pleased by the performances of <em>Dragon's Dogma</em>, which exceeded expectations to become a <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/06/25/capcom-ships-over-a-million-copies-of-dragons-dogma/">million-seller last year</a>, and <em>Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate</em>, which racked up over <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2013/01/27/the-top-30-games-of-2012-in-japan/">600,000 sales</a> during its first month in Japan.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2013/02/04/capcom-sales-income-up-in-2012/">Capcom sales, income up in 2012</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Mon, 04 Feb 2013 08:45:00 EST. Both <a href="http://joystiq.com/game/resident-evil-5"><em>Resident Evil 5</em></a> and the non-canon spinoff <a href="http://joystiq.com/game/resident-evil-operation-raccoon-city"><em>Resident Evil: Operation Raccoon City</em></a> are available for half price, making the first one $9.99, and the second $24.99 for the base game, or $38.94 with all of the DLC included.<br /><br />At those prices, there's never been a better time to sign the rent agreement and let the Evil move on in. Just be careful with letting Evil be your roommate: It always leaves empty milk cartons in the fridge, and never washes the dishes, no matter what the chore list says.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/09/25/resident-evil-5-and-raccoon-city-half-off-on-steam-for-midweek-m/">Resident Evil 5 and Raccoon City half off on Steam for Midweek Madness</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 25 Sep 2012 23:00:00 EST. You could rely on your friends, game critics or helpful GameStop sales associates to tell you which games are scary, but that's so two-thousand-and-late. We're sticking with science, thanks to this helpful feature from <a href="http://www.gamasutra.com/view/feature/6480/scary_game_findings_a_study_of_.php">Gamasutra</a>, which used player feedback and biometric data to rate not only the most frightening games, but their most horrifying moments. [<strong>Update</strong>: The study itself was conducted by <a href="http://www.verticalslice.co.uk/">Vertical Slice</a>, so if you're looking for dream jobs in the research field, that's where we'd start.)<br />
<br />
A victor was picked, but some of the study's other conclusions were more interesting. For instance: The threat of combat was typically scarier than combat itself. Also, gore, while provocative, wasn't, particularly frightening. The game that understood those concepts the best? Well, that would be <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/dead-space-2"><em>Dead Space 2</em></a>, which took the brass ring over <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/condemned"><em>Condemned</em></a>, <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/alan-wake"><em>Alan Wake</em></a> and <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/resident-evil-5"><em>Resident Evil 5</em></a>.<br />
<br />
Presumably, <em>Sherlock Holmes: Nemesis</em> was <a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=13YlEPwOfmk">not in the running</a>.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/09/08/science-picks-dead-space-2-as-360s-scariest-game/">Science picks Dead Space 2 as 360's scariest game</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 08 Sep 2011 19:56:00 EST. Without looking, we'd like for you to tell us where all of your various and sundry <em>Resident Evil</em> games are located right now. Your copy of <em>Resident Evil 4</em> is out of its box, lying face-up on the entertainment center? <em>Code Veronica</em> is in a box in the attic? <em>Resident Evil 2</em> is in the oven? You clearly need a better way of keeping tabs on them -- like, for instance, having nearly all of the franchise's main entries enclosed in Capcom's recently announced <a href="http://www.andriasang.com/e/blog/2011/07/08/resident_evil_box/">15th Anniversary Box</a>.<br />
<br />
The bundle, which will be available in Japan through <a href="http://www.e-capcom.com/ec/srDispProductDetailCsLink/doColorSizeLink/1/1/A10003113/10/10/srDispProductDetail/1">e-Capcom</a> this September, contains the three PSOne <em>Resident Evils</em>, <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/resident-evil-revival-selection"><em>Revival Selection</em></a> (the HD remastering of <em>RE4</em> and <em>Code Veronica</em>) and soundtracks for the two games in the <em>Revival Selection</em>.<br />
<br />
<em>Resident Evil 5</em> is not included in the package, but the Box does include a spacer in which to keep your copy. Voila! No more scratched, misplaced or broiled discs.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/07/08/resident-evil-games-assembled-in-15th-anniversary-box/">Resident Evil games assembled in 15th Anniversary Box</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Fri, 08 Jul 2011 10:55:00 EST. Starting today and running until Thursday, April 28 at 11:30am EST, <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/resident-evil-5"><em>Resident Evil 5</em></a> is half-off on the Games For Windows marketplace -- down to $15 from its usual $30 asking price. Sounds like a perfect opportunity to give a lonely <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Resident_Evil_characters">Majini</a> a home. Sure, they may be parasitic shells of their former selves, but that doesn't mean they don't have <em>feelings</em>, guys.<br />
<br />
It should be noted that this is the base edition of <em>Resident Evil 5</em>, sans both DLC packs: <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/02/19/resident-evil-5-lost-in-nightmares-dlc-easter-egg/">Lost in Nightmares</a> and <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/02/19/resident-evil-5-lost-in-nightmares-dlc-easter-egg/">Desperate Escape</a>. It also doesn't include <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/03/12/resident-evil-5-versus-dlc-confirmed-costs-money/">the Versus mode</a>.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/04/22/resident-evil-5-is-half-price-on-games-for-windows/">Resident Evil 5 is half price on Games For Windows</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Fri, 22 Apr 2011 02:00:00 EST. 	<a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/03/04/fifth-resident-evil-movie-in-the-works-scheduled-for-2012/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2011/03/alicere5moviepln.jpg" style="margin-top: 4px; margin-bottom: 4px;" /></a></div>
Like the zombies it's based off of, the <em>Resident Evil</em> movie franchise will not die. Although the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/09/14/jovovich-another-resident-evil-movie-is-definitely-coming/">fifth film</a> has yet to be subtitled, it does have a date. <em>"Resident Evil 5"</em> will be in theaters -- in 3D, of course -- on September 14, 2012.<br />
<br />
There's good reason for the hastened production schedule for yet another sequel. According to <a href="http://www.boxofficemojo.com/news/?id=3103&amp;p=.htm">Box Office Mojo</a>, last year's <em>Resident Evil</em> film, <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/resident-evil-afterlife/"><em>Afterlife</em></a>, was the highest grossing in the series, generating over $236 million, which is "about as much as the first three movies combined," the site notes. <em>Afterlife </em>enjoyed success in international markets and generated additional revenue through its 3D presentations. According to the report, about 80 percent of <em>Afterlife's</em> domestic revenue came from its extra-dimensional screenings.<br />
<br />
With the success of <em>Resident Evil</em> on the silver screen, it's no surprise Capcom and Sony Pictures are trying to strike gold again. In addition to <em>Resident Evil</em>, a <em>Devil May Cry</em> film is also <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/02/28/devil-may-cry-movie-rights-acquired-by-screen-gems/">in the works</a>.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/03/04/fifth-resident-evil-movie-in-the-works-scheduled-for-2012/">Fifth Resident Evil movie in the works, scheduled for 2012</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Fri, 04 Mar 2011 20:20:00 EST. <a href="http://joystiq.com/tag/capcom">Capcom</a> has released its annual report for the fiscal year ended March 31, 2010, and there's a wealth of information for those willing to plumb its 102-page depths. Net sales for Capcom's fiscal 2009 were &yen;66.8 billion ($779 million), down from &yen;91.8 billion ($1.07 billion) in 2008. The company saw net income of &yen;2.16 billion ($25 million), its lowest since 2004 (when it saw a loss of over &yen;9 billion). This marks a very sharp contrast to the previous year, when Capcom recorded net income of &yen;8 billion ($93 million), its highest earnings since 2000.<br />
<br />
Capcom cited the postponement of many major titles until the following fiscal year as the cause for the decline. Given those titles included the likes of <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/12/22/capcom-pulls-super-street-fighter-iv-lost-planet-2-monster-hun/"><em>Super Street Fighter 4</em></a>, we'd say that's <em>probably</em> accurate. <br />
<br />
Capcom isn't losing heart though, and goes on to detail its new strategy of "Single Content Multiple Usage." The company plans to leverage its video game segment (which accounts for 65.9 percent of its business) to promote products in other forms of media. As illustrated in the image above, Capcom has already done this with the <em>Resident Evil </em>franchise, creating books, movies and music that revolve around the brand. Capcom hopes this will reduce risk and attract "customers obtained from other business segments" to the video games these products are based on.<br />
<br />
So, does watching Milla Jovovich kill movie zombies compel you to shoot the virtual ones?<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/09/18/capcom-profits-plummet-in-fiscal-2009-new-strategy-outlined/">Capcom profits plummet in fiscal 2009, new strategy outlined</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Sat, 18 Sep 2010 00:00:00 EST. Capcom and Sony Pictures are subjecting victims to another CG <em>Resident Evil</em> movie: <em>Damnation</em>. The animated feature will be released in Japan in 2012 using that 3D tech the corporations are raving about. <br />
<br />
According to <a href="http://www.capcom.co.jp/ir/english/news/html/e100914.html">Capcom</a>, the first <em>Resident Evil</em> CG film, <em>Degeneration</em>, has shipped over 1.6 million copies for home viewing and its limited "2-week / 3-screen theatrical release in Japan" grossed &yen;40 million yen ($480K).<br />

Despite <em>Resident Evil's</em> celluloid excursions being <a href="http://www.metacritic.com/search/movie/resident+evil/results">reviled by critics</a>, the series has made plenty of bank.<em> Resident Evil: Afterlife 3D</em> is <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/09/13/resident-evil-afterlife-nets-first-place-at-the-box-office/">currently the top movie at the box office</a>.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/09/14/resident-evil-damnation-3d-cg-movie-sequel-announced/">Resident Evil: Damnation 3D CG movie sequel announced</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 14 Sep 2010 09:31:00 EST. Seemingly at peace with the fact that it may never escape the <em>"<a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/resident-evil-5">Resident Evil 5</a> </em>is racist" flap the game <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/02/24/resident-evil-5-producer-there-is-no-racial-element-to-it-at-a/ ">stirred up last year</a>, Capcom USA is speaking openly about measures it is taking to ensure it can offer a non-Japanese perspective on future titles. Talking with <a href="http://gamasutra.com/view/news/30059/Capcom_Were_Never_Going_To_Have_Another_RE5_Controversy.php">Gamasutra</a>, the senior PR rep for the publisher's North American operation, Melody Pfeiffer, confirmed that, "Since the RE5 controversy, we have become much more aware of how important it is that we are part of the asset creation process early on so that we are able to have a say in the end product." (Implying that it <em>didn't</em> before.)<br />
<br />
"We are also designing a lot of our own assets from this side of the pond, so that we are able to make strategic pieces of content that make sense for our market," Pfeiffer added, saying, "We are working really closely with our producers in Japan to construct these materials for the West and they are open more then ever to hearing our thoughts and ideas for assets."<br />
<br />
Translated: Capcom USA hopes it won't be blindsided again, and has gotten assurances from the home office that it'll be listened to the next time it says, "Uh, no, that <em>ain't </em>gonna fly <em>anywhere</em>." Listened to, yes, but <em>heard</em>? Only the lack of another "<em>RE5 </em>controversy" can serve as proof.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/08/24/capcom-usa-will-be-proactive-in-preventing-another-re5-controve/">Capcom USA will be proactive in preventing another 'RE5 controversy'</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 24 Aug 2010 19:30:00 EST. Capcom clarified today at Gamescom that the <em>Resident Evil 5</em> patch that introduces Move functionality will be available on September 19 (the same day <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/06/15/playstation-move-coming-september-19-for-50/">Move launches</a>). As <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/07/26/resident-evil-5-gold-edition-to-get-move-patch-original-re5-ca/">previously mentioned</a>, the automatically downloaded patch will only be available for the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/resident-evil-5-gold-edition">Gold Edition</a> of the game. If you live in Italy or Spain you didn't get a "gold edition," but Capcom is releasing <em>Resident Evil 5: Move Edition</em> in those countries.<br />
<br />
A Capcom representative also let us know that folks playing together will be able to play co-op online or offline with any supported controller configurations (a Move and Navigation Controller pair can play alongside a DualShock 3, for instance). The Move controls (and all the other control options) will be available in the main story, Mercenaries and bonus episodes.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/08/18/resident-evil-5s-move-patch-available-september-19/">Resident Evil 5's Move patch available September 19</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 18 Aug 2010 11:00:00 EST. If you're anything like us, you've been waiting diligently for the motion controller-enabled version of 2009's <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/resident-evil-5">Resident Evil 5</a></em>, hoping for a chance to battle zombies (and explore the additional content) using Sony's <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/playstation-move">PlayStation Move</a>. A recent posting on the <a href="http://blog.us.playstation.com/2010/07/26/playstation-move-hands-on-resident-evil-5-gold-edition/">PlayStation Blog</a> by Sony's Sid Shuman indicates that only folks who own the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/resident-evil-5-gold-edition">Gold Edition</a> of <em>RE5</em> will be receiving the Move-enabling patch "close to the launch of the PlayStation Move."<br />
<br />
"This will only work with <em>RE5</em> copies labeled 'Gold Edition' -- the original version of <em>RE5</em> won't be receiving the patch, for technical reasons," Shuman says, additionally noting that the patch itself will become available on PSN "close to the launch of the PlayStation Move." <br />
<br />
Not into patches? Too bad! No, no, <em>just joshin</em>' -- apparently all retail versions of <em>RE5</em>'s Gold Edition will come with the patch on-disc after Move's official release. Also, you should probably get in on the whole "internet" <em>thing</em>.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/07/26/resident-evil-5-gold-edition-to-get-move-patch-original-re5-ca/">Resident Evil 5: Gold Edition to get Move patch; original RE5 can't</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Mon, 26 Jul 2010 17:00:00 EST. Given all the release announcements, new games and other such hullabaloo that's recently surrounded the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/playstation-move">PlayStation Move</a>, we wouldn't be surprised if you've forgotten about one of the earliest titles known to support the ice cream cone-shaped peripheral: <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/resident-evil-5-alternative-edition"><em>Resident Evil 5: Alternative Edition</em></a>. Perhaps this will jog your memory: Sony Japan recently announced that the game will be bundled with the Move controller and PlayStation Eye, a package which will sell for 7,980 yen (about $90).<br />
<br />
Sadly, <em>zero</em> gamers will be purchasing this particular bundle, as Sony Japan also announced the "PlayStation Move BIG 3 GUN SHOOTING Perfect Pack," a commanding package which includes <em>Time Crisis: Razing Storm</em>, <em>Dead Storm Pirates</em> and <em>Time Crisis 4: Arcade Version</em>. Of course, this bundle costs 11,980 yen (about $136) and features three games that, even when combined, aren't as good as <em>RE5</em> -- but still! It's the BIG 3 GUN SHOOTING Perfect Pack. How are we supposed to say no to that?<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/07/06/playstation-move-bundled-with-resident-evil-5-in-japan/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>PlayStation Move bundled with Resident Evil 5 in Japan</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/07/06/playstation-move-bundled-with-resident-evil-5-in-japan/">PlayStation Move bundled with Resident Evil 5 in Japan</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 06 Jul 2010 09:48:00 EST. Some people would have you believe that the printed word is on the way out, but it turns out the medium is undead after all. No, you're not i-Majini-ng things, there really is <a href="http://www.udonentertainment.com/blog/?p=1655">a <em>Resident Evil 5</em> art book</a>, and it's shambling to shelves this July. Entitled <em>The Art of Resident Evil 5</em>, the book is being released by <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/Udon/">Udon</a> and contains loads of content from the game, including "3D models, character designs, environments, storyboards, and promotional art." It also includes "never before seen concept art and unused designs," creator commentary and interviews with the development staff.<br />

Looks like <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/03/31/rumor-infamous-lbp-goty-and-others-joining-greatest-hits/">the Walmart ad</a> we posted yesterday actually undersold the number of PS3 games that Sony will soon add to the $30 Greatest Hits collection. <a href="http://blog.us.playstation.com/2010/04/01/new-ps3-greatest-hits-titles-available-now/?utm_source=feedburner&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Feed%3A+PSBlog+%28PlayStation.Blog%29">The following 10 titles</a> will be decked in red and reduced in price in the U.S. and Canada within the next few weeks:
<ul>
    <li><em>inFAMOUS</em> (Sony Computer Entertainment)</li>
    <li><em>God of War Collection</em> (Sony Computer Entertainment)</li>
    <li><em>Killzone 2</em> (Sony Computer Entertainment)</li>
    <li><em>LittleBigPlanet Game of the Year</em> (Sony Computer Entertainment)</li>
    <li><em>Resistance 2</em> (Sony Computer Entertainment)</li>
    <li><em>Dead Space</em> (Electronic Arts)</li>
    <li><em>Fight Night Round 4</em> (EA Sports)</li>
    <li><em>Resident Evil 5</em> (Capcom)</li>
    <li><em>Soulcalibur IV</em> (Namco Bandai Games)</li>
    <li><em>UFC 2009 Undisputed</em> (THQ)</li>
</ul>
That's a pretty good assortment of quality titles -- assuming, of course, that this isn't some kind of horribly distasteful April Fools' Day joke.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/04/01/10-games-added-to-ps3-greatest-hits-lineup-sony-confirms/">10 games added to PS3 Greatest Hits lineup, Sony confirms</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 01 Apr 2010 13:00:00 EST. Buy them all! And buy both DLC episodes while you're at it. Capcom just announced that it's bundling the two costume packs, as well as both the "<a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/02/17/re5-lost-in-nightmares-dlc-priced-5-dollars-costume-pack-is-2/">Lost in Nightmares</a>" and "<a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/03/03/joyswag-limited-edition-resident-evil-5-chibi-majini-shirt-an/">Desperate Escape</a>" episodes together as a single "Untold Stories Bundle."<br />
<br />
It'll be available today on Xbox Live for 960<img border="0" alt="" src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.xbox360fanboy.com/media/2007/11/microsoftpointslogosmall.gif" /> ($12) and tomorrow on PlayStation Network for $12.50. Individually, all that content would add up to $14, and would require up to four tedious menu navigations. Either way, it's still cheaper than buying the <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/11/19/resident-evil-5-gold-edition-hits-retail-in-march-dlc-in-febru/">Gold Edition</a></em> disc.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/03/10/resident-evil-5-dlc-available-at-a-discount-in-untold-stories-b/">Resident Evil 5 DLC available at a discount in 'Untold Stories Bundle'</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 10 Mar 2010 13:00:00 EST. The PS3 version of <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/resident-evil-5-gold-edition">Resident Evil 5: Gold Edition</a> </em>(<em>Alternative Edition</em> in Japan) hit the top of the Media Create sales chart in Japan following its February 18 release, selling 143,339 copies. <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/god-eater">God Eater</a></em> continues to gobble up attention, taking the #2 spot with 64,192 units sold (while <a href="http://www.famitsu.com/game/news/1232349_1124.html?ref=rss">passing</a> 500k units sold to date).<br />
<br />
Another big PS3 game also debuted in the top ten this week: <a href="http://joystiq.com/tag/heavy-rain"><em>Heavy Rain</em></a>, which fell in at #6, selling 26,775 copies. In a way, the Japanese version is the superior release, because the voice acting doesn't seem to have been performed by French people faking Japanese accents. </a></div>
There's a neat throwback to the first time Jill Valentine and Chris Redfield went stomping around a creepy old mansion in "<a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/lost-in-nightmares">Lost in Nightmares</a>," the new DLC episode for <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/resident-evil-5"><em>Resident Evil 5</em></a>. By going to the front door of the mansion and attempting to open it a few times (remember what happened <a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DW3txAxaD2A">the first time you tried that</a>?), you'll eventually get a "?" message and the camera will shift to <em>Resident Evil's</em> classic, isolated point of view.<br />
<br />
More than anything, the Easter egg is a nostalgic reminder of the olden days of survival horror, before Chris Redfield had to <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/03/11/pinpoint-exactly-when-resident-evils-chris-redfield-started-tak/">juice up</a> just to get out of bed in the morning.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/02/19/resident-evil-5-lost-in-nightmares-dlc-easter-egg/">RE5 'Lost in Nightmares' Easter egg: the classic cam</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Fri, 19 Feb 2010 14:30:00 EST. And also a bit dressed in spiky shoulder pads. Instead of the two costumes advertised, the "Costume Pack 1" actually contains the "Fairy Tale" and "Warrior" outfits that were <em>supposed</em> to comprise the "Costume Pack 2" DLC. Surprise!<br />
<br />
"This issue is known by Capcom," the publisher <a href="http:// http://www.capcom-unity.com/mattd/blog/2010/02/17/resident_evil_5:_costume_pack_1_issue">assures</a> the inappropriately attired gamers affected by the issue, "and we are currently working with Microsoft for a solution." As for tomorrow's PS3 release of the costume pack, Capcom told Joystiq that it was "still verifying" which costumes will be included.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/02/17/resident-evil-5-costume-pack-suffers-a-wardrobe-malfunction/">Resident Evil 5 costume pack suffers a wardrobe malfunction</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 17 Feb 2010 17:50:00 EST. As expected, the first of two <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/11/19/resident-evil-5-gold-edition-hits-retail-in-march-dlc-in-febru/"><em>Resident Evil 5 </em>expansion episodes</a>, "Lost in Nightmares," has been released today on Xbox Live (tomorrow on PSN) for the <em>unterrifying</em> price of 400<img alt="" src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.xbox360fanboy.com/media/2007/11/microsoftpointslogosmall.gif" /> ($5). An additional <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/12/17/resident-evil-5-desperate-escape-episode-detailed/#continued">Costume Pack</a>, also the first of two, has hit the Marketplace as well, for 180<img alt="" src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.xbox360fanboy.com/media/2007/11/microsoftpointslogosmall.gif" /> ($2), and joins the <a href="http://xbox.joystiq.com/2010/02/16/free-resident-evil-5-dlc-hits-xbox-live-marketplace/">free Extra Figures DLC</a> that appeared on Monday.<br />
<br />
Capcom has also confirmed that the second episode, "<a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/desperate-escape/">Desperate Escape</a>," previously dated for March 3 and 4 on XBLM and PSN, respectively, will also launch at the 400<img alt="" src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.xbox360fanboy.com/media/2007/11/microsoftpointslogosmall.gif" /> / $4.99 price point and be joined by Costume Pack 2 (180<img alt="" src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.xbox360fanboy.com/media/2007/11/microsoftpointslogosmall.gif" /> / $1.99).<br />
<br />
Finally, on March 9, <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/resident-evil-5-gold-edition/">Resident Evil 5: Gold Edition</a></em> will hit retail, combining all of the aforementioned DLC (on the PS3 disc; through vouchers in Xbox 360 copies) with the original game for $50; a not-so discounted bundle for anyone who hasn't picked up the original <em>RE5</em> (now $30), which was released <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/03/12/joystiq-review-resident-evil-5/">last March</a>. So, if you're not too interested in piloting air ships and wranglin' chocobos <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/01/12/video-game-release-date-calendar-q1-q2-2010/#mar">that week</a>, Chris and Sheva have got your back. Will you have theirs? Hmm?<br />

As promised, both <em>Resident Evil 5</em> and <a href="http://joystiq.com/tag/beautiful-katamari"><em>Beautiful Katamari</em></a> are <a href="http://majornelson.com/archive/2010/02/16/games-on-demand-resident-evil-5-and-beautiful-katamari.aspx">now available via Xbox Live Games on Demand</a>. <em>Resident Evil 5</em> is available everywhere <em>except</em> Korea, while <em>Beautiful Katamari</em> is available everywhere <em>except</em> India. The North American price for <em>Resident Evil 5</em> is $29.99, with <em>Beautiful Katamari</em> going for $19.99. As usual, prices vary by region, so be sure to check your local details before plunking down the e-money.<br />
<br />
It's worth pointing out that this week also marks the release of the <a href="http://joystiq.com/tag/resident-evil-5-gold-edition"><em>Resident Evil 5: Gold Edition</em> DLC</a>. In other words, you could actually own the entirety of the Gold Edition in a purely digital format (you know, if that's <em>your thing</em>). Strangely absent from Marketplace are the promised <em>Resident Evil</em> Avatar items, though we imagine those will be coming along shortly. Unless they're zombie outfits, in which case it may be a while before they shamble online.<br />

Capcom isn't exactly known for its <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/04/10/capcom-insists-re5-versus-wasnt-on-the-disc/">generous</a> support of DLC. But with the impending release of the very first <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/11/20/re5-lost-in-nightmares-teaser-goes-back-to-the-mansion/"><em>Resident Evil 5: Gold Edition</em></a> DLC this week, Capcom is giving everyone a free surprise on the Xbox Live Marketplace. Available for download now, the "Extra Figures" pack will add figures like Barry and Rebecca to your in-game statue collection ... "all for the affordable price of a free download!"<br />
<br />
We've learned from plenty of schoolyard beatings that the only thing worse than being caught playing with action figures ... is being caught playing with action figures that aren't even real. We'll be doing this discreetly.<br />

Sadly, our unbearably nerdy request for the more classic versions of these two characters was not honored, as both seem to be updates of their GameCube incarnations: Barry from <em>REmake</em> and Rebecca from <em>Resident Evil Zero</em>. <br />

The latest issue of Famitsu reveals (via <a href="http://xbox360.ign.com/articles/106/1067865p1.html">IGN</a>) that two of the series' classic characters are coming to <em>Mercenaries Reunion</em> in <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/resident-evil-5-alternative-edition"><em>Resident Evil 5: Alternative Edition</em></a>: Barry Burton and Rebecca Chambers. Both characters made their first appearance in the original <em>Resident Evil </em>game, but haven't exactly been strangers to the series ever since. <br />
<br />
Rebecca co-starred in <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/resident-evil-zero"><em>Resident Evil Zero</em></a>, while Barry enjoyed an extended role in <em>REmake</em> and was Leon's sidekick in <em>Resident Evil Gaiden</em>, the Game Boy Color game. Barry also played a pivotal role in <em>Resident Evil 3: Nemesis</em>.<br />
<br />
Frankly, we're all for bringing these two back, but only if we get <a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qri7zvToOj4&amp;NR=1">oddly apologetic Rebecca</a> and <a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fVvQdRvt89M">soft-spoken Barry</a>.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/02/09/famitsu-rebecca-chambers-and-barry-burton-in-re5-mercenaries-r/">Famitsu: Rebecca Chambers and Barry Burton in RE5: Mercenaries Reunion</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 09 Feb 2010 20:00:00 EST. Even in motion (perhaps <em>especially</em> in motion), it all seems just a tad silly. There's something incongruous about a woman in an evening gown and heels bringing the pain to swarms of zombies. She certainly never showed off her zombie-slaying abilities in the game proper. Still, that's probably beside the point.<br />
<br />
Capcom also released a video of Josh Stone in the Mercenaries Reunion mode. He seems a little more at home, cheesy catchphrases included. See him in action after the break. <em>Resident Evil 5: Gold Edition</em> DLC lands on PSN and XBLM <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/11/19/resident-evil-5-gold-edition-hits-retail-in-march-dlc-in-febru/">in February</a>, with a retail release set for March.<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/01/28/video-excella-and-josh-in-resident-evil-5-gold-edition/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Video: Excella and Josh in Resident Evil 5: Gold Edition</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/01/28/video-excella-and-josh-in-resident-evil-5-gold-edition/">Video: Excella and Josh in Resident Evil 5: Gold Edition</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 28 Jan 2010 17:21:00 EST. With a rapidly approaching "Spring" release date and only one game with confirmed support for the device, Sony has made the presumably wise decision to <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/01/20/playstation-motion-controllers-release-date-moves-to-fall-2010/">delay the release</a> of the as-yet-unnamed <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/PlayStation-Motion-Controller/">PlayStation Motion Controller</a> until "Fall 2010" in order to "offer an exciting and varied line-up of software titles that will deliver the new entertainment experience to PS3 users." The single game with confirmed support: <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/Resident-Evil-5-Alternative-Edition/"><em>Resident Evil 5: Alternative Edition</em></a>, shown off at last year's Tokyo Game Show with Motion Controller support on PS3 (<a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/09/25/tgs-2009-motion-controlled-resident-evil-5-caught-on-video/">here it is on video</a>). <em>RE5: Alternative Edition</em> is coming to North America as "Gold Edition" in both retail and DLC formats, <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/11/19/resident-evil-5-gold-edition-hits-retail-in-march-dlc-in-febru/">beginning in February</a>.<br />
<br />
We asked Capcom US how the delay of the Motion Controller would affect the release of Alternative/Gold Edition and here's what the publisher told us: <br />
<blockquote>
<div>Capcom has not announced any compatibility between Sony's motion controller and <em>Resident Evil 5</em> in North America. The release of this product will be unaffected by the delay in our territory and is still on track for a March 9 release with the individual pieces of downloadable content released prior.</div>
</blockquote>Of course, that doesn't answer if the already demoed Motion Controller support will still be a component of the Japanese "Alternative Edition" release, whether that support will be patched into any or all of the retail and DLC releases upon the arrival of the Motion Controller in the Fall, or whether Capcom's just giving up on the idea entirely. We're following up and will let you know if Capcom's sharing anything beyond the above statement. <br />

Of all the characters we can imagine playing in the new Mercenaries Reunion mode in the upcoming <a href="http://joystiq.com/tag/resident-evil-5-gold-edition"><em>Resident Evil 5: Gold Edition</em></a>, Excella Gionne is probably at the bottom of the list. Well,<span style="font-style: italic;"> </span>Ashley -- Leon's little tag-along in <em>Resident Evil 4</em> -- might rank lower. While the press release assures us that Excella's "mercilessness contrasts with her beauty" and that she has a "strong fighting instinct backed up by superior martial art skills," it seems just a <em>little</em> suspect. She's a CEO, not a warrior. Can you imagine <a href="http://joystiq.com/tag/steve-ballmer">Steve Ballmer</a> and <a href="http://joystiq.com/tag/howard-stringer">Howard Stringer</a> teaming up to fight their way through the zombie apocalypse?<br />
<br />
Actually, that sounds completely awesome. Why don't you check out some screens of Excella -- and some new screens of the "<a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/12/17/resident-evil-5-desperate-escape-episode-detailed/">Desperate Escape</a>" episode -- while <a href="http://joystiq.com/tag/joystiq-publishing">Joystiq Publishing</a> works up a development document for <em>Ball and String in Zombie Town</em>. <br />

"<a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/11/20/re5-lost-in-nightmares-teaser-goes-back-to-the-mansion/">Lost in Nightmares</a>" takes place before the events of <em>Resident Evil 5</em> and includes a mansion inspired by the setting of the very first <em>RE</em> game. "<a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/12/17/resident-evil-5-desperate-escape-episode-detailed/">Desperate Escape</a>" takes place during the end of <em>Resident Evil 5</em>, as Jill and Josh race to save Chris and Sheva from the endgame's <em>exploding volcano</em>.<br />
<br />
With Jill serving as the "main character" for the additional content, the <em>Gold Edition</em> expansion looks like a genuine sequel, a la <em>Resident Evil 3: Nemesis</em>. Most importantly, we're glad to see Jill's masterful unlocking skills put to good use in this trailer. The first batch of <em>RE5</em> DLC will be available on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/11/19/resident-evil-5-gold-edition-hits-retail-in-march-dlc-in-febru/">February 17</a>.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/01/15/resident-evil-5-gold-edition-looks-like-a-sequel-in-new-trailer/">Resident Evil 5: Gold Edition looks like a sequel in new trailer</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Fri, 15 Jan 2010 10:45:00 EST. <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/flower"><em><strong>Flower</strong></em></a><br />
This year had a number of terrific downloadable games (this list is a testament to that), however no game -- retail or digital -- connected with me like <em>Flower</em>. Jenova Chen's <em>flOw</em> was an interesting experiment, but Flower is an <em>actual</em> game. In fact, <em>Flower</em> is one of the few experiences I can think of that show the true potential of games as a unique storytelling medium. No other non-interactive art form will ever be able to replicate what thatgamecompany has managed to create.<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/01/02/best-of-the-rest-andrews-picks-of-2009/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Best of the Rest: Andrew's Picks of 2009</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/01/02/best-of-the-rest-andrews-picks-of-2009/">Best of the Rest: Andrew's Picks of 2009</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Sat, 02 Jan 2010 21:00:00 EST. I mocked this "re-imagining" of <em>Silent Hill</em> when it was first announced. I thought Harry Mason had become an older, life-hewn Harry <em>Potter</em> and considered the town's frosty makeover as nothing short of sacrilege. But an encounter with the game at E3 2009 (and with candid producer <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/06/24/interview-silent-hill-shattered-memories-producer-tomm-hulett/">Tomm Hulett</a>) quickly changed my mind. While the game departs significantly from the franchise's known lore, it retains and streamlines much of what made <em>Silent Hill</em> stand out against games like <em>Resident Evil</em>. Encased in the game's frigid atmosphere, you'll experience a sense of bewilderment that, if you've been playing these games for a long time, you will not have felt in years. Indeed, the best surprises prey on those of us who think we know everything about <em>Silent Hill</em>.<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/01/01/best-of-the-rest-ludwigs-picks-of-2009/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Best of the Rest: Ludwig's Picks of 2009</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/01/01/best-of-the-rest-ludwigs-picks-of-2009/">Best of the Rest: Ludwig's Picks of 2009</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Fri, 01 Jan 2010 19:15:00 EST. <a href="http://joystiq.com/tag/valkyria-chronicles"><em><strong>Valkyria Chronicles</strong></em></a><br />
"BUT THAT GAME WAS 2008!!11one!1!" Well, yes, in the strictest sense. Sega's strategy role-playing game, an epic tale chronicling the hardships and victories of Gallian militia Squad 7, was sent out to die by the publisher when it released in November 2008. However, word-of-mouth, critical praise and some discounted pricing helped the saga find a place in <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/06/09/valkyria-chronicles-sales-increased-400-in-april/">many people's lives (and hearts)</a> by mid-2009. <br />
<br />
One of the most endearing mechanics implemented in the game was giving all the playable members of Squad 7 bonuses (or flaws) based on their neuroses, relationships and desires. Also, every character had a different personality that shined during their turn through little quips and order recognition comments. It gave the entire cast more depth of character, even as the player only saw a handful of the troops during cutscenes. Despite the requisite Japanese RPG flair and melodrama, there was a simple beauty and charm in the storytelling, while the gameplay introduced a great basis for iteration. <em>Valkyria Chronicles</em> is a series that, with love and attention, could become so much more. I look forward to returning to Gallia and hope future installments recognize that the delightful characters are as important to the series as the strategic gameplay.<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/01/01/best-of-the-rest-alexanders-picks-of-2009/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Best of the Rest: Alexander's Picks of 2009</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/01/01/best-of-the-rest-alexanders-picks-of-2009/">Best of the Rest: Alexander's Picks of 2009</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Fri, 01 Jan 2010 18:00:00 EST. <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/resident-evil-5"><em><strong>Resident Evil 5</strong></em></a><br />
I've long been a fan of the <em>Resident Evil </em>series, and while the campaign here has problems and should <em>never</em> be played solo, the Mercenaries mode is what kept me coming back. Those action-packed levels spent trying to survive while running low on ammo and health were some of my most chaotic, yet highly enjoyable, experiences of 2009.<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/01/01/best-of-the-rest-daves-picks-of-2009/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Best of the Rest: Dave's Picks of 2009</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/01/01/best-of-the-rest-daves-picks-of-2009/">Best of the Rest: Dave's Picks of 2009</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Fri, 01 Jan 2010 17:15:00 EST.
